Hum 370 Culture And Conflict Research Paper

HUM 370
Culture and Conflict
I agree and disagree with the letter. I understand where the person is coming from however what
gives anyone the right to tell someone else that since they talk in a different language they should
leave/ be deported or exiled from the United States. We are a diverse society and demanding
individuals coming here to learn the language as if it was the only one seems selfish. Our linguistic
diversity is an asset as language and culture tend to go hand in hand and creativity and innovation
tend to be the highest where different countries collide and overlap. Directing us toward a
monoculture will only affect after a period of time. Though I comprehend that learning a new
language may be tough, an

Oral Communication Reflection
Back on Tuesday, September 19, I (along with the rest of the class,) gave my first speech in Oral
Communication Class. It was our first speech assigned/presented in class, and its topic, Self
Introduction. Some people may find it challenging, but I see it as a very simple subject to talk
about. Who knows more about you than yourself? No one! So why do people find it so hard to
talk about? I had a funny feeling that the day the order of our speeches were assigned that I d be
the first person to give their speech. Sure enough, I was the first person to give their speech. I m
genuinely glad that I was first because I was able to get it out of the way and not have to stress
on it. Giving a speech in front of my peers is nowhere near as nerve racking or terrifying as I
thought it would be, but upon giving my speech, I would like to reflect on how I felt the day of
my speech (in terms of confidence levels,) some verbal and delivery skills which I used well/not
as well, some improvements that could of been put in place for my speech, and who in the class
I believe gave the best speech among us all. First off, how I felt on the day of our first speech. I
m not going to say that I was 100% confident in myself and not nervous at all, because that s
simply not true, but all in all I felt pretty good and I wasn t really that nervous. Since I m used to
speaking in front of people, I wasn t nervous about talking in front of my peers but forgetting
what I m talking about in my speech since I m used to memorizing and not just speaking out in
front of people. The only thing I could think of which I could do to make me less nervous than
what I was on the day of my speech would be to go practice more in front of people who aren t my
friends. Otherwise, I believe I used my skill of performing in theatre and transposed it into my
speech so I wouldn t be nervous upon giving my speech. In speaking of skills, the next topic I d
like to address is some skills which I used well/not so well. Some verbal skills I believe I used well
(in the content) would be connecting to the audience with funny little examples of a side topic I
was talking about. An example of this would be when I said as red head, I could either be Peter

Imagery Rehearsal Therapy
Approximately 72% of persons with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) report experiencing
traumatic nightmares (Casement Swanson, 2012). Traumatic nightmares are an intrusive symptom
of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) which can negatively impact persons experiencing
symptoms after experiencing, either directly or indirectly, a traumatic experience (American
Psychiatric Association, 2013). Given the large proportion of persons with PTSD who experience
traumatic nightmares, it behooves social workers to be aware of interventions which can benefit
persons experiencing traumatic nightmares. Imagery Rehearsal Therapy is one intervention which
could help practitioners who are working with persons who have PTSD. Overview of Imagery

Similar to confrontation, Step 2 of IRT involves psychoeducation about the nature of nightmares
and how imagery and practicing pleasant imagery can positively benefit nightmares. Krakow and
Zadra (2006) explain that understanding imagery and its impact on nightmares can help to change
the relationship which exists between the person and the trauma related nightmare. In addition to
psychoeducation, the client works to change the end of the nightmare which will be used in
imagery rehearsal; the ending does not have to be realistic and should not include an increase in
violence (Pagel et al., 2014). Through psychoeducation and writing down a new ending for their
trauma related nightmare, Step 2 of IRT helps the client begin to distance themselves from their
nightmares, thus beginning the process of lessening distress from

Anzaac Primary Sources
A plethora of reasons exist to which why the accounts are both different and similar. ANZAC
troops were outnumbered in all instances because they were fighting the same opponent, similar
weaponry was employed as all ANZAC troops were issued an identical set of weapons, the
nature of the conflict reflected all of the battles as the same strategies were used, terrain
similarities occurred because they were all situated in the same vicinity, all accounts entered via
ship as no other route existed, courage, fearlessness and audacity were all common behaviours for
the ANZACs as they all came from more or less the same background in Australiaand those
characteristics were frequent and finally, heavy casualties, for the same reason as nature of the
operation, occurred due to the recklessness of the whole operation. The... Show more content on

They are primary sources in the form of letters by soldiers who have a firsthand account of
WWI. Primary articles include; I threw off my pack and took cover behind a heap of pebbles.
There was no cover from bullets as the Turks were entrenched on the top of a cliff... and The
shrapnel was worse than hell, was getting nearer to us every minute... . Although the letters are
firsthand accounts, some information mentioned is secondary or mentioned to them by another

1000 men left. and The Turks were estimated to be 50 to 1 . These sources were written directly

American Liberal Democracy
From a political perspective or more specifically the Democratic side of the American Liberal
Democracy, we can also find examples showing that the USA did not show favourable behaviour
towards its practice of Liberalism. A law can be created, passed or vetoed by three different arms of
the government: the president, the House of Representatives and the Senate.
At first sight it seems like this organisation of power is in correlation with Democracy.
Nevertheless because different political parties rules those three arms of government, this coalition
has blocked the resolution of certain conflict or issues regardless of the people s opinion.

The finance industry is primarily a service industry and therefore is there to serve people. The
power taken and given to this industry does not represent a democracy. In 1982, even though it
goes against the Glass Steagall Act of 1933 (passed after the Great Depression in order to control
banks and prohibit commercial banks from using depositor s savings to invest in speculative
instruments), the Reagan administration enabled the deregulation of the American financial
market. By the end of the decade, hundreds of savings and loan companies had failed, this crisis
cost tax payers $124 billion and cost many people their life s savings (Inside Job). Nevertheless,
deregulation stayed in place and saw the 2001 internet bubble and the 2008 financial crisis which

The Five Stages Of Grief
It s ironic that Elizabeth Kubler Ross theory, of the five stages of grief is present in the story
Hamlet by William Shakespeare after so many centuries later. Hamlet is believed to be the most
dramatic play in history, and comes with many personal conflicts that people still today will
struggle with. In Hamlet , the main character, Hamlet goes through the 5 stages of griefthroughout
the story. Elizabeth Kubler Ross developed a theory based on how she believes to be the stages
of acceptance of death. The 5 stages of grief and loss are: 1. Denial and isolation; 2. Anger; 3.
Bargaining; 4. Depression; 5. Acceptance. People who are grieving do not necessarily go
through the stages in the same order or experience all of them. (Axelrod, 2016) Even though,
Hamlet repeats some of these stages, and is involved in multiple stages at the same time, he does
in fact experience through all these stages. Hamlet the Danish prince, son of Gertrude, grieve for
the death of his father. The unexpected passing of his father causes Hamlet to experience a roller
coaster of emotions. The death of his father is not the only thing he struggles with, but the
marriage between his mother and uncle troubles him also. He feels as if his mother has betrayed
him, and did not give him the proper time to grief over the fatality of his father. Claudius, Hamlet s
uncle, not only replaced his father, but he also inherited the throne that was supposed to be passed
down to Hamlet. When Horatio and the

Durga As A Goddess
There are many deities and divine beings within the polytheistic religion of Hinduism. The
religion maintains the ideology that there is one god and many gods, that present themselves in
various forms. Specifically, the deity Durga is one of Devi s most common forms and she is
highly regarded as the mother of all things. Druga s vast influence is seen through vivid imagery,
stories, and significance as a goddess.
Durga is a popular deity, who is an icon of female strength, courage, and beauty. The goddess s
appearance gives deeper meaning to her protective nature. First, this goddess is immensely beautiful
and rides a ferocious lion, which represents her courage and power. Durga has ten arms and each of
her hands holds objects with spiritual meanings. For instance, the deity holds a trident, conch shell,
lotus, and a thunderbolt. Additionally, the iconic objects that the goddess holds contain the power
to both destroy and create. Durga s multiple arms all contain items that reflect her connections to
the universe and her abilities. For instance, sharp knifes represent her ability to demolish obstacles
and create a clearly spiritual path. The knives manifest a form of liberation that many individuals
can connect to throughout history, as overcoming fear is a common human trait. This shows Durga
s spiritual strength and determination to consecrate a path of enlightenment. Also, the three
pronged trident is a tool that rips through the veils of the past, present, and future.

How Is Harrison Bergeron Violated
The story Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. explains that people are being forced to wear
handicaps to make everyone equal in every aspect. Also, a man called Harrison Bergeron was
sent to prison without a trial because the government believed that he was planning to overthrow
the government but later on he escapes. It also explains that Harrison goes to the TV studio
where a ballerina had given the news to the public and claims that he is the Emperor of
everyone. He soon told everyone that he was going to select an Empress and so, a ballerina stood
up and became his Empress. Harrison and the ballerina soon started to dance and kissed. As they
were dancing Diana Moon Glampers, the Handicap General, came in and shot both Harrison and
the ballerina and command everyone who had their handicaps off to put them on before they too

Another law that was violated was amendment VIII.(n.d., 1791) This law was violated when the
Handicap General used cruelty punishment which was death.(Vonnegut, 1961) These were some
laws that were violated.
To solve the problems in Harrison Bergeron I have proposed a new legislation. This new
legislation is explaining that law enforcement may not kill a person before going to trial to find
the person s correct and fair punishment. What this legislation is saying that no police officer,
sheriff, or etc. are allowed to kill a person before going to trial to find the accused person correct
punishment. There will be no exceptions in this law. This is the new legislation I have

The Flame And Its Beauty
An immensely dense, dark fog covered the sky for many hours, intensifying in color with each
long, drawn out minute that passed. The only visibility of my surroundings that I had was from
the tiny spark of light created by my lantern. The delicate flame was keeping me company while
offering me a source of comfort in the back of the shaky, jolting buggy. The flicker of the flame
entranced me, the slight warmth produced by it drawing me in. I sat there, studying the flame
and its beauty. I had never been one to fear the dark; the still of night was a beautiful contrast to
the vibrant daytime. Nightmares were things created and fabricated within the mind. The idea
of fear was simply a product of an overactive imagination, and I had been told to suppress the idea
of any impossible creatures lurking in the darkness of my room. My childhood years seemed to
be a distant memory, despite the reality only being a few years prior. A lot had changed since
then; I had grown up too fast, and tragedy had fallen upon me that had aged me beyond my years.
I had been anxiously awaiting the arrival at my mistress s house since embarking upon the long
journey at the first gleam of morning sun. I had never had experience as a maid, nevertheless I
was forced into this job as most of my money was gone. I needed to find a way to take care of
myself now that I had no family to support me. Part of me felt apprehensive, the other half filled

Racial Stereotypes Of Muslims
Stereotypes is a fixed, over generalized belief about a particular group or class of people
(Cardwell, 1966). Stereotypes are used to making interactions with new people easier. However, it
also means people forget differences of individuals and assumes based on generalization.
Stereotypes eventually leads to social categorization which creates prejudice towards groups.
Racial stereotypes such as described in Look, Mohammed the Terrorist is Coming! by Nadine
Naber, they describe the stereotypical Mohammed , an Arab or Middle Eastern Muslimman with a
beard and brown or dark complexion that usually fits the profile of a terrorist. It s not only Muslims
who becomes victims of this stereotype, majority of Middle Easterners, including Christians,
Muslims, and even atheists, and majority South Asians, including Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs.
Another stereotype of Muslims that media has constructed is around hijabis. Often if a Muslim
woman is wearing a hijab, oppression, conservative, traditionalism is associated with them.
Rarely is it asked, was it your choice . Every woman wearing a hijab may not have to option to
chose to wear it or not, but often, it is the women s individual decisions to decide to wear a hijab or
not. Some will wear it when they feel they are ready, some will wear it to be closer to God, and
some will wear it as a step towards being religious. No matter what the reason, it doesn t mean
oppression, or being narrow minded. In every major religion, there is a

Human Struggle In The Tokyo Story
In Ozu s film, the Tokyo Story, has many scenes that define the human struggle, such as the struggle
to make a living, aging and death of loved ones, and the way children eventually fall apart from
their parents when they get older. The one human struggle from Ozu s film that influenced the most
empathy is the inevitable truth of life that the strugglefor survival in society eventually drifts
individuals apart such as parents and they re children when they begin to live independently and
become to take care for only themselves because of their daily busy lives.
From this film, Ozu introduces a few scenes to compare the similarities of different generations
in the relationship between children and parents. The first scene that begins this comparison is
when Koichi s son, Minoru, had high hopes of going sightseeing with his parents and
grandparents, but when suddenly Koichi had to go see his sick patient and the plans got
cancelled, Minoru was very disappointed and angry with his parents because he mentions that
they always say they will go next time, but they never seem to keep their words. Ozu includes
this scene to show how often parents never seem to keep their promises with their children
because they re constantly busy with their own things and not have enough free time to spend
time with them. It s just like in reality where parents that struggle financially tend to spend more
time at work than at home, thus they never seem to have the time or use their precious time to
take their children out because it always involves money. We can understand from both sides of
perspective, as the parent and as the child. Many of us as a child have surely experienced the
samething atleast one time in our life when our parents never kept they re words and seemed too
busy to play with us. If it were from a wealthy family the parents wouldn t have to worry about
spending they re money and consume most of their time at work. They would most likely go out
more often with their children and take them to places like Disneyland or Legoland such as most
families today. When Ozu included the scene when right before they were ready to go out for
sightseeing and the patient comes in to see Koichi, shows us that this family is

The Cure, By Geeta Anand
Some people succeed because they are destined to, but mostly because they are determined to
(unknown). This quote truly represents John and Aileen Crowley, the parents of John, Meagan,
and Patrick in the book The Cure, by Geeta Anand. Having two of their children born with a life
debilitating disease called Pompe disease, was hard to comprehend. Being told that their
children have only months to live due to the fact that there was no medicine on the market to
combat the disease, John decided to quit his marketing executive job to find a cure and make a
drug that will save them. He invested himself and his life s savings in a startup biotechnology
company that grew from 27 million dollars to 137.5 million dollars. There were many challenges
he faced throughout the entire story line, yet he continued to persevere which ultimately paid off.
One of the biggest hardships he faced was after the drug was about to get tested. He was told that
the drug would only be tried on babies that were less than six months old and that his two children
would not be included in the clinical trial. To hear that his children were not going to in fact
receive the drug after all this time and effort was crushing, yet he insisted to find a way that they
would get it. The scientist concluded that it would be good research to see if the medicine worked
in siblings, and they made an exception to let these two siblings be included in the study. His hard

results are demonstrated in Exhibit 1. In all three scenarios, kit only concept will not make up to

Therefore, Customers?needs of both high quality and convenience are well served. As a result,
refrigerated pizza s claimed benefit might be weaker than what refrigerated pasta could offer to

not be true for pizza case, because refrigerated pasta has been priced close to competing substitute

Software Engineering And Inventions Of The 20th Century
Assignment Week One 1. As software becomes more pervasive, risks to the public become an
increasingly significant concern. In your own words, develop a realistic scenario where the
failure of a software could do great harm to humans (economically or otherwise). Software
Engineering and Computers are the most important and strange inventions of the 20th century.
These two things have solved many of our biggest problems and made our life very easy and
given us huge power to control the world. But, like everything these can also have some negative
effects. We have built huge machines and powerful instruments to help humanity but we have
also put our lives at greater risk. For example, computers help us to diagnose diseases in seconds,
but on the other hand they are responsible for producing new diseases through new viruses,
dangerous chemicals and new military devices. One such scenario could be as follows: NASA
spent a huge amount of money to send a rocket into space over an eight year time frame. This
project was designed to send a scientist to space for research. After eight years of work and $52
Billion the rocket was ready to launch and three important astronauts were on board. The
astronauts were prepared for a range of experiments to investigate life in space and the production
of gases in various locations. Countdown begins. Finally the rocket left the earth and everyone at

Descriptive Essay About Fountain Pen
I ve always enjoyed collecting the finer utensils in life mainly writing and shaving instruments to
be specific (but maybe next year I ll get really into forks and spoons). Between the two of these,
though, my first love was pen collecting.
As a child, I remember hearing my father tell stories about how, when he was younger, he used to
send letters to car companies asking for posters and pins, at one point even receiving a free stamp
in the mail with his name. To this day, he still uses that stamp on official documents.
He inspired then 8 year old Sanjay to write a letter to Nintendo, asking to beta test the latest
DragonQuest game. Since then, I have received over 200 dollars worth of stationery related
product in the mail, all under the same, albeit somewhat cheesy, letterhead: Help! I m a struggling
student who needs a nice pen to improve my grades! Apart from this, I have attended Seattle s
Fountain Pen Club, as the only representative of the under 60 age group, received countless pity
rejection letters from companies too smart for my antics, and a sponsorship from ChopSaver lip
balm. Sure, using fountain pens can be a pain. Having to clean them out with a bulb syringe every
two weeks is no easy task, and the pain that comes with trying to find fountain pen friendly paper
is sometimes so unbearable that I have to resort to using a ballpoint. However, I began to love
fountain pens not just for their interesting look and feel, but rather to supplant my feeling

resigned from the Patent Office and was appointed Associate Professor of theoretical physics at

How Steel Helped Civilizations
Steel helped civilizations like the Fertile Crescent, Eurasia, and Spain develop and improve
farming and battle skills, allowing them to appropriate resources and develop massively.
Four things were needed to make steel: time, specialists, the ability to burn hot fires, and iron.
Semi arid places with four seasons, like the Fertile Crescent, Eurasia, and Spain were able to grow
wheat and sustain domestic animals like horses, pigs, cows, sheep, and goats. Enough food for a
civilization allowed specialists to develop. Perfecting the process of metallurgy was difficult,
tedious work, specialists/ironmongers and extra time were necessary to developing steel
technologies. The Fertile Crescent, Eurasia, and Spain s dry climate allowed them to burn

Charles Town, WV Abstract
This paper explores the different aspects of security as it pertains to database systems. It will
provide an overview of security concerns such as access control, user authentication, reliability and
data integrity, as well as how IT professionals might mitigate the risk associated with each. By
examining the methodology by which attacks on database systems occur, we are able to take a
comprehensive approach to prevent or limit the extent of such attacks and the impact they may
have on a DBMS environment. Finally, we will review industry best practices of the
implementation of security countermeasures.
Introduction Over the past ten to fifteen years, there has been tremendous growth in the utilization
of database systems. One reason for this is because of the growth E Commerce has experienced.
Businesses must have a reliable method of storing a customer s information safely and efficiently.
We often hear of a data breach which results in customers credit card information being stolen.
There are inherent risks associated with storing financial information in an online capacity, such as
hackers and ill intentioned employees. Given the diverse nature of the interconnectivity of these
systems, there is a

What Do You Understand by the Term Deep Shallow Ecology
Deep ecology is a contemporary ecological philosophy that recognizes the inherent worth of other
beings aside from their utility. The philosophy emphasizes the interdependent nature of human and
non human life as well as the importance of the ecosystem and natural processes. It provides a
foundation for the environmental, ecology and green movements and has fostered a new system of
environmental ethics.
According to deep ecologists, the root, or deep cause of environmental destruction is
anthropocentrism, the worldview that holds humans are (1) that which has highest or the only
intrinsic value, (2) are fundamentally different and separate from nature, and (3) the dominant
focus of our attention. This anthropocentric worldview has ... Show more content on

Deep ecologists also tend to criticize the reformist environmentalism exemplified by large,
mainstream environmental organizations that work within the political system to gain policy
victories without challenging society s main assumptions and values that are the ultimate cause of
environmental degradation. Some deep ecologists also have criticized the animal rights movement
as maintaining an implicitly anthropocentric view that extends human rights to at least some
animals, and in so doing upholding a hierarchical view of nature (animals are more important than
plants). They also object to the individualist approach common among animal liberationists, which
they believe neglects the importance of whole systems.
There has been a vigorous, and at times shrill, debate between proponents of deep ecology and
other schools of radical environmental thought. Ecofeminism has criticized deep ecology for
neglecting the close ties between environmental thought and social ideology, especially the long
standing tendency to associate nature with the female and then devaluing and oppressing both.
Similarly, it has criticized deep ecology s general neglect of social problems that are caused by the
logic of domination, in which some social groups are assumed to have more value and have the
right to control and use others, the same logic of domination that fuels

Fear In The Odyssey
The Hero s Journey, as defined by Joseph Campbell, is a set of stages a protagonist must undergo
to reinter into his known and normal world after facing many challenges. One specific challenge
the hero must face is described as the Supreme Ordeal, which is the moment the greatest fear is
confronted. In The Odyssey, Odysseus must killthe suitors who took over his household to reach
the next stage of his journey. As Odysseus slaughters the suitors in the hall of his home in Book
22, not only does he enter the Supreme Ordeal stage of the Hero s Journey to face his greatest
fear, but also is one phase closer to reintegrating with society. Joseph Campbell, an American
scholar, defined the Hero s Journey in twelve separate stages within two halves,... Show more

While earlier books in The Odyssey describe Odysseus fear in his own words, Book 22 is the
first incident in which his fear is physically both described and displayed. This display of fear is
further expressed when Athena as Mentor asks Odysseus, Where s it gone, Odysseus your
power, your fighting heart? (22.236) This question not only represents the great fear circulating
through the hero in the moment, but also symbolizes his hitting bottom. Athena, once greatly
praising the courage of Odysseus, hit new heights of rage (22.234) when he became overcome
with fear as more suitors and enemies gathered in the hall, waiting to kill him. Athena then goes
as far as to mock the fear that overcame Odysseus when she states now you ve returned to your
own house, your own wealth / bewail the loss of your combat strength in a war with suitors?
(22.242 243) This emphasis on suitors shows both their inner weakness and the disgust Athena
has towards them, giving Odysseus the advantage in the slaughter. This advantage is
demonstrated when six of the suitors attempt to attack Odysseus and his comrades with spears,
but Athena sent the whole salvo wide of the mark (22.269). Immediately after, Odysseus and his
comrades return the attack and successfully kill four of the opposing men. After another round of
slaughtering success, Odysseus begins to overcome the fear of the Supreme Ordeal. This fear is
not lost; however, for it is turned around and placed on the remaining suitors by Athena when she
terrifies the suitors out of their minds, and down the hall they panicked / wild, like herds
stampeding, driven mad as the darting gadfly / strikes in the late spring when the ling days come

Analysis Of The Gods Must Be Crazy

elements of PERMA in their lives. By doing this they can have a happy, contented, and satisfying
live amongst their people. The acronym PERMA stands for the people of the Kalahari being able
to achieve positive emotions, engagement in activities, good relationships with others, a sense of
meaning, and identifiable accomplishments in their lives. For starters, the Kalahari people
demonstrate positive emotions by being able to obtain food and water each day. Positive emotions

If there weren t any good relationships with others, then the family would have no need to work
together or talk to each other. While the fourth letter of the acronym stands for a sense of
meaning. This is demonstrated through them completing tasks that help feed their family
group. One example of this is shown when the hunters in the group apologize to the deer for
having to kill it and telling it that they must feed their family. They also demonstrate a sense of
meaning by showing younger members of their family group how to get water through means
such as squeezing the shavings of a tuba. This is trying to ensure the survival of their family
group not only in the present but in the future as well. The final letter of the acronym stands for
accomplishments in their lives. This is done through setting up a goal to find water and laying
out leaves the day beforehand to collect dew drops the following day. By planning this out it
allows for the people of the Kalahari to accomplish their goal of finding water in their
environment that has a scarce supply of it. Another goal of theirs that is set each day is finding
food. This Is accomplished by hunting and gathering. By being able to kill an animal, collect
berries, find tree roots, or catch bugs it will give these people a sense of accomplishment in their
lives. The biggest goal I believe they are accomplishing is being able to survive. We can see that
they are being able to accomplish this goal because

William James s View On Religion
William James explains his position on religious belief by relating his idea to that of Pascal s.
He does think that is reasonable to believe in God without evidence, but not based on Pascal s
wager which is to base your belief on cost benefit analysis; James thinks this is wrong because it
is not live. James does think it is permissible to believe without evidence when we have a
genuine option that cannot by its nature be decided on intellectual grounds. That is when our
passional nature takes over and decides the matter. James states how when he is explaining
passional nature he means all factors of belief as ear and hope, prejudice and passion, imitation
and partisanship, the circumpressure of our caste and set, and then says that when we find
ourselves believing we don t know how or why. James begins his paper by explaining is stance
on belief by writing that anything that may be proposed to our belief is a hypothesis. He goes on
to explain that the decision of two hypotheses is an option. There are several options: living if
both possibilities appeal as real possibilities for the agent, forced if it is unavoidable, and
momentous if it is not trivial. He states that religionis a momentous option, and that we are
supposed to gain, even now, by our belief, and to lose by our non belief, a certain vital good. He
then goes on to say that religion is also a forced option; we cannot remain skeptical and wait for a
greater evidence to believe. However, he does say that

Point Guard Vs Shooting Guard Essay
I m comparing and contrasting two basketball positions, point guard and shooting guard. These
two positions are alike and different in many ways. One way I m focusing on is, what are their
responsibilities? The next thing that I m focusing on is, do these two players work together? The
last thing that I m focusing on is how tall do you have to be for these two positions?
Some people may think that point and shooting guards do the same thing. Most of the things they
do are similar, but there are some differences. One similarity is that, they both have to control the
ball while getting the players to understand the plays. In contrast, one thing that the point guard

They also have to work with the post. On the other hand, shooting guard kind of has to switch
gears because they have to be near the ball, but at the same time be somewhere that they can
shoot. They both have to help so that the ball can get near the basket and so that someone can put
it up. While doing this, the point has to have nice slick passes to get the ball around. When help is
being needed they both have to make sure they re there because their teammates are going to pass
it to one of them. It is exciting but it takes skill for these two positions.
There are really tall people that play basketball, but that is not an requirement. You don t have to
really have height to play these two positions. In comparison, the point and shooting guards are
usually the shortest ones on the team. People also think that the point guard Is the shortest one on
the team. Good news is they don t have to be! On the other hand, shooting guard is the shortest one
on the team. The post are the taller ones that s why they are there to shoot.
What I learned from researching these two positions are that they can be really fun to be on a
basketball team. I also learned that basketball is not easy and it is a physical sport. Basketball is
one of the well known sports and people play it all throughout the country. These similarities and
differences has helped me understand what some positions really

  • 2. Hum 370 Culture And Conflict Research Paper Lirio, Kimberly HUM 370 Culture and Conflict I agree and disagree with the letter. I understand where the person is coming from however what gives anyone the right to tell someone else that since they talk in a different language they should leave/ be deported or exiled from the United States. We are a diverse society and demanding individuals coming here to learn the language as if it was the only one seems selfish. Our linguistic diversity is an asset as language and culture tend to go hand in hand and creativity and innovation tend to be the highest where different countries collide and overlap. Directing us toward a monoculture will only affect after a period of time. Though I comprehend that learning a new language may be tough, an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Oral Communication Reflection Back on Tuesday, September 19, I (along with the rest of the class,) gave my first speech in Oral Communication Class. It was our first speech assigned/presented in class, and its topic, Self Introduction. Some people may find it challenging, but I see it as a very simple subject to talk about. Who knows more about you than yourself? No one! So why do people find it so hard to talk about? I had a funny feeling that the day the order of our speeches were assigned that I d be the first person to give their speech. Sure enough, I was the first person to give their speech. I m genuinely glad that I was first because I was able to get it out of the way and not have to stress on it. Giving a speech in front of my peers is nowhere near as nerve racking or terrifying as I thought it would be, but upon giving my speech, I would like to reflect on how I felt the day of my speech (in terms of confidence levels,) some verbal and delivery skills which I used well/not as well, some improvements that could of been put in place for my speech, and who in the class I believe gave the best speech among us all. First off, how I felt on the day of our first speech. I m not going to say that I was 100% confident in myself and not nervous at all, because that s simply not true, but all in all I felt pretty good and I wasn t really that nervous. Since I m used to speaking in front of people, I wasn t nervous about talking in front of my peers but forgetting what I m talking about in my speech since I m used to memorizing and not just speaking out in front of people. The only thing I could think of which I could do to make me less nervous than what I was on the day of my speech would be to go practice more in front of people who aren t my friends. Otherwise, I believe I used my skill of performing in theatre and transposed it into my speech so I wouldn t be nervous upon giving my speech. In speaking of skills, the next topic I d like to address is some skills which I used well/not so well. Some verbal skills I believe I used well (in the content) would be connecting to the audience with funny little examples of a side topic I was talking about. An example of this would be when I said as red head, I could either be Peter Pan at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Imagery Rehearsal Therapy Approximately 72% of persons with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) report experiencing traumatic nightmares (Casement Swanson, 2012). Traumatic nightmares are an intrusive symptom of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) which can negatively impact persons experiencing symptoms after experiencing, either directly or indirectly, a traumatic experience (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Given the large proportion of persons with PTSD who experience traumatic nightmares, it behooves social workers to be aware of interventions which can benefit persons experiencing traumatic nightmares. Imagery Rehearsal Therapy is one intervention which could help practitioners who are working with persons who have PTSD. Overview of Imagery Rehearsal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similar to confrontation, Step 2 of IRT involves psychoeducation about the nature of nightmares and how imagery and practicing pleasant imagery can positively benefit nightmares. Krakow and Zadra (2006) explain that understanding imagery and its impact on nightmares can help to change the relationship which exists between the person and the trauma related nightmare. In addition to psychoeducation, the client works to change the end of the nightmare which will be used in imagery rehearsal; the ending does not have to be realistic and should not include an increase in violence (Pagel et al., 2014). Through psychoeducation and writing down a new ending for their trauma related nightmare, Step 2 of IRT helps the client begin to distance themselves from their nightmares, thus beginning the process of lessening distress from ... • 5. Anzaac Primary Sources A plethora of reasons exist to which why the accounts are both different and similar. ANZAC troops were outnumbered in all instances because they were fighting the same opponent, similar weaponry was employed as all ANZAC troops were issued an identical set of weapons, the nature of the conflict reflected all of the battles as the same strategies were used, terrain similarities occurred because they were all situated in the same vicinity, all accounts entered via ship as no other route existed, courage, fearlessness and audacity were all common behaviours for the ANZACs as they all came from more or less the same background in Australiaand those characteristics were frequent and finally, heavy casualties, for the same reason as nature of the operation, occurred due to the recklessness of the whole operation. Although the letters are firsthand accounts, some information mentioned is secondary or mentioned to them by another source. American Liberal Democracy From a political perspective or more specifically the Democratic side of the American Liberal Democracy, we can also find examples showing that the USA did not show favourable behaviour towards its practice of Liberalism. A law can be created, passed or vetoed by three different arms of the government: the president, the House of Representatives and the Senate. At first sight it seems like this organisation of power is in correlation with Democracy. Nevertheless because different political parties rules those three arms of government, this coalition has blocked the resolution of certain conflict or issues regardless of the people s opinion. The finance industry is primarily a service industry and therefore is there to serve people. The power taken and given to this industry does not represent a democracy. In 1982, even though it goes against the Glass Steagall Act of 1933 (passed after the Great Depression in order to control banks and prohibit commercial banks from using depositor s savings to invest in speculative instruments), the Reagan administration enabled the deregulation of the American financial market. By the end of the decade, hundreds of savings and loan companies had failed, this crisis cost tax payers $124 billion and cost many people their life s savings (Inside Job). Nevertheless, deregulation stayed in place and saw the 2001 internet bubble and the 2008 financial crisis which resulted in a global recession which cost the world tens of trillions of dollars, rendered 30 million people unemployed and doubled the national debt of the United States . Hamlet is believed to be the most dramatic play in history, and comes with many personal conflicts that people still today will struggle with. In Hamlet , the main character, Hamlet goes through the 5 stages of griefthroughout the story. Elizabeth Kubler Ross developed a theory based on how she believes to be the stages of acceptance of death. The 5 stages of grief and loss are: 1. Denial and isolation; 2. Anger; 3. Bargaining; 4. Depression; 5. Acceptance. People who are grieving do not necessarily go through the stages in the same order or experience all of them. (Axelrod, 2016) Even though, Hamlet repeats some of these stages, and is involved in multiple stages at the same time, he does in fact experience through all these stages. Hamlet the Danish prince, son of Gertrude, grieve for the death of his father. The unexpected passing of his father causes Hamlet to experience a roller coaster of emotions. The death of his father is not the only thing he struggles with, but the marriage between his mother and uncle troubles him also. He feels as if his mother has betrayed him, and did not give him the proper time to grief over the fatality of his father. Claudius, Hamlet s uncle, not only replaced his father, but he also inherited the throne that was supposed to be passed down to Hamlet. When Horatio and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The religion maintains the ideology that there is one god and many gods, that present themselves in various forms. Specifically, the deity Durga is one of Devi s most common forms and she is highly regarded as the mother of all things. Druga s vast influence is seen through vivid imagery, stories, and significance as a goddess. Durga is a popular deity, who is an icon of female strength, courage, and beauty. The goddess s appearance gives deeper meaning to her protective nature. First, this goddess is immensely beautiful and rides a ferocious lion, which represents her courage and power. Durga has ten arms and each of her hands holds objects with spiritual meanings. For instance, the deity holds a trident, conch shell, lotus, and a thunderbolt. Additionally, the iconic objects that the goddess holds contain the power to both destroy and create. Durga s multiple arms all contain items that reflect her connections to the universe and her abilities. For instance, sharp knifes represent her ability to demolish obstacles and create a clearly spiritual path. The knives manifest a form of liberation that many individuals can connect to throughout history, as overcoming fear is a common human trait. This shows Durga s spiritual strength and determination to consecrate a path of enlightenment. Also, the three pronged trident is a tool that rips through the veils of the past, present, and future. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stereotypes are used to making interactions with new people easier. However, it also means people forget differences of individuals and assumes based on generalization. Stereotypes eventually leads to social categorization which creates prejudice towards groups. Racial stereotypes such as described in Look, Mohammed the Terrorist is Coming! by Nadine Naber, they describe the stereotypical Mohammed , an Arab or Middle Eastern Muslimman with a beard and brown or dark complexion that usually fits the profile of a terrorist. It s not only Muslims who becomes victims of this stereotype, majority of Middle Easterners, including Christians, Muslims, and even atheists, and majority South Asians, including Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs. Human Struggle In The Tokyo Story In Ozu s film, the Tokyo Story, has many scenes that define the human struggle, such as the struggle to make a living, aging and death of loved ones, and the way children eventually fall apart from their parents when they get older. The one human struggle from Ozu s film that influenced the most empathy is the inevitable truth of life that the strugglefor survival in society eventually drifts individuals apart such as parents and they re children when they begin to live independently and become to take care for only themselves because of their daily busy lives. From this film, Ozu introduces a few scenes to compare the similarities of different generations in the relationship between children and parents. The first scene that begins this comparison is when Koichi s son, Minoru, had high hopes of going sightseeing with his parents and grandparents, but when suddenly Koichi had to go see his sick patient and the plans got cancelled, Minoru was very disappointed and angry with his parents because he mentions that they always say they will go next time, but they never seem to keep their words. Ozu includes this scene to show how often parents never seem to keep their promises with their children because they re constantly busy with their own things and not have enough free time to spend time with them. It s just like in reality where parents that struggle financially tend to spend more time at work than at home, thus they never seem to have the time or use their precious time to take their children out because it always involves money. We can understand from both sides of perspective, as the parent and as the child. Many of us as a child have surely experienced the samething atleast one time in our life when our parents never kept they re words and seemed too busy to play with us. If it were from a wealthy family the parents wouldn t have to worry about spending they re money and consume most of their time at work. They would most likely go out more often with their children and take them to places like Disneyland or Legoland such as most families today. He invested himself and his life s savings in a startup biotechnology company that grew from 27 million dollars to 137.5 million dollars. There were many challenges he faced throughout the entire story line, yet he continued to persevere which ultimately paid off. One of the biggest hardships he faced was after the drug was about to get tested. He was told that the drug would only be tried on babies that were less than six months old and that his two children would not be included in the clinical trial. To hear that his children were not going to in fact receive the drug after all this time and effort was crushing, yet he insisted to find a way that they would get it. Software Engineering and Computers are the most important and strange inventions of the 20th century. Apart from this, I have attended Seattle s Fountain Pen Club, as the only representative of the under 60 age group, received countless pity rejection letters from companies too smart for my antics, and a sponsorship from ChopSaver lip balm. Sure, using fountain pens can be a pain. Having to clean them out with a bulb syringe every two weeks is no easy task, and the pain that comes with trying to find fountain pen friendly paper is sometimes so unbearable that I have to resort to using a ballpoint. It will provide an overview of security concerns such as access control, user authentication, reliability and data integrity, as well as how IT professionals might mitigate the risk associated with each. By examining the methodology by which attacks on database systems occur, we are able to take a comprehensive approach to prevent or limit the extent of such attacks and the impact they may have on a DBMS environment. Finally, we will review industry best practices of the implementation of security countermeasures. Introduction Over the past ten to fifteen years, there has been tremendous growth in the utilization of database systems. One reason for this is because of the growth E Commerce has experienced. Businesses must have a reliable method of storing a customer s information safely and efficiently. We often hear of a data breach which results in customers credit card information being stolen. The philosophy emphasizes the interdependent nature of human and non human life as well as the importance of the ecosystem and natural processes. According to deep ecologists, the root, or deep cause of environmental destruction is anthropocentrism, the worldview that holds humans are (1) that which has highest or the only intrinsic value, (2) are fundamentally different and separate from nature, and (3) the dominant focus of our attention. Deep ecologists also tend to criticize the reformist environmentalism exemplified by large, mainstream environmental organizations that work within the political system to gain policy victories without challenging society s main assumptions and values that are the ultimate cause of environmental degradation. They also object to the individualist approach common among animal liberationists, which they believe neglects the importance of whole systems. There has been a vigorous, and at times shrill, debate between proponents of deep ecology and other schools of radical environmental thought. Ecofeminism has criticized deep ecology for neglecting the close ties between environmental thought and social ideology, especially the long standing tendency to associate nature with the female and then devaluing and oppressing both. In The Odyssey, Odysseus must killthe suitors who took over his household to reach the next stage of his journey. As Odysseus slaughters the suitors in the hall of his home in Book 22, not only does he enter the Supreme Ordeal stage of the Hero s Journey to face his greatest fear, but also is one phase closer to reintegrating with society. While earlier books in The Odyssey describe Odysseus fear in his own words, Book 22 is the first incident in which his fear is physically both described and displayed. This display of fear is further expressed when Athena as Mentor asks Odysseus, Where s it gone, Odysseus your power, your fighting heart? (22.236) This question not only represents the great fear circulating through the hero in the moment, but also symbolizes his hitting bottom. Athena, once greatly praising the courage of Odysseus, hit new heights of rage (22.234) when he became overcome with fear as more suitors and enemies gathered in the hall, waiting to kill him. Athena then goes as far as to mock the fear that overcame Odysseus when she states now you ve returned to your own house, your own wealth / bewail the loss of your combat strength in a war with suitors? (22.242 243) This emphasis on suitors shows both their inner weakness and the disgust Athena has towards them, giving Odysseus the advantage in the slaughter. This advantage is demonstrated when six of the suitors attempt to attack Odysseus and his comrades with spears, but Athena sent the whole salvo wide of the mark (22.269). Immediately after, Odysseus and his comrades return the attack and successfully kill four of the opposing men.
