In 2005, Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a law into effect for the state of California that would prohibit
anyone under the age of 18 from playing Mature (M) rated violent video games. If there were any
violators of this law, a hefty fine of $1,000 would have been issued. However on July 23rd, 2011, the
Supreme Court did not have enough evidence and revoked this law claiming that it is unconstitutional
and violates the 1st amendment (Mears). Even though video game makers scored a huge victory, the
problem still exists. Research confirms that children are spending an increasing amount of time
playing top rated violent video games. On average, boys are playing 13 hours a night, while girls are

of 12 and 17 reported playing video games, while 2/3 of them played video games that contained

is my letter to the world Emily writes about the feeling she has as she leaves society. Tell all truth but
tell it slant is a piece about how the truth is not meant for everyone. Emily Dickinson uses poetic
devices such as personification, rhyme scheme, and metaphor to accurately convey the unique themes
of her pieces.
In Dickinson s poem This is My Letter to the World, she is expressing her reclusiveness towards the
world. What Emily means by this is that she wrote a letter to the world, but the world does not know
who she is since she never leaves her home. She also writes about what nature has taught her in hopes
to teach other people lessons. In the closing of the poem she asks the readers to not judge her harshly
on what she has written. The overall theme of this poem is that if people were to judge, they should
judge by the truth. She does not want to be judged harshly for separating herself from the world, she
just wants to belong. She uses many devices through all of her poems to help convey the overall
theme. In the poem This is My Letter to the World, Dickson uses the personification of nature, rhyme
scheme, and metaphor to show her overall theme.
Within the poem, Dickinson writes, The simple news that Nature told, With tender majesty. Dickinson
is using personification because nature cannot literally speak to her and tell her the basic truths about

as Jan works on an oil rig. Bess thanks God for the greatest gift (Jan) and is hysterically unhappy
when he is gone. Initially Bess must consummate her love for Jan: her love has finite requirements,
namely, having him home and engaging in sexual activity. She asks God to send Jan home ( Nothing
else matters...won t you send him home? ), and believes she is responsible for the injury that brings
him home. God tells Bess, your love for Jan has been put to the test : since Bess is concerned with the
finite, her love is not yet made eternal, and Jan s condition declines. Jan wishes to set Bess free, and,
resigning they will never again make love, loses the will to live; he believes that by dying he will set
her free, since she would not be allowed to divorce him. Jan begins his movement towards faith,
moving his love towards the infinite, and encourages Bess to take a lover to be happy. Since Jan is not
