The Parthenon In Ancient Greece
The Greeks built many magnificent and complex structures that can date back to almost 3,000 years
ago. The Parthenon was built in about 447 BC and is still standing today. Many people visit the
Parthenon to learn more about the history of Ancient Greece. The structure is very detailed and
complex from its unique principles and components. When the Athenians built this temple they were
at the highest of their riches and could afford great building materials that help parts of the structure
still stand tall today. Although this temple was not only built because of the high of money but also as
a dedication to a certain god/godess. Many Ancient Greek structures still stand today representing the
time in the past. It is important to learn about Greek Architecture to understand how and why these
structures were created.

Principals, dedication, and different components are all components that help you identify a certain
structure. The three principal orders of Ionic, Doric, and Corinthian describe the different types of
columns. The key components help describe the unique features to the specific structure. Dedication
describes the purpose of building the structure. These are all important when classifying or identifying
a certain ancient structure. Learning how to identify a certain structure is important because learning
about our ancient greece is learning about our history. Greek architects have provided some of the
most finest and distinctive structures in the entire ancient world. (Cartwright). Our history is important

Analysis Of The Poem The Waste Land
The first lines of T.S. Eliot s poem, The Waste Land, proclaim,
April is the cruelest month, breeding Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain (lines 1 4). 1 4)
This stanzaese ilines invokes a strange mix of hopeful images, layered with words of despair.veiled
beneath words of despair . Many would agree there is a clear feeling of hopelessness throughout the
poem; however, through poetic allusions to redemption, glimpses of optimism are seen in Eliot s
work, suggesting all may not be lost. His references to the redeeming hellfire of Dante s Divine
Comedy, and transformation through tragedy in The Story of Tereus and Philomela, show that Eliot
perhaps holds onto a glimmer of hope for society s despondent state.fordespondent state .
Eliot calls to our attention the degradation of society using the theme of lust throughout The Waste
Land. In A Game of Chess and again in The Fire Sermon, he describes how sex has become an act
devoid of meaning and emotion. The speakers in these sections show how society has separated sex
and love, stripping it of its significance. However, in What the Thunder Said , Eliot points the way to
redemption. He quotes Dante stating, Poi s ascose nel foco che gli affina (line 427) which translates
to, Then he hid himself in the fire that refines them. The purifying fire he speaks of comes from Canto
26 of Dante s Purgatorio . In this passage, Dante is traveling through terrace seven

A Study On Cell Physiology And Biostatistics
J: Welcome everyone. I am Jake Rossein, I graduated Johns Hopkins University and Columbia
University where I got my PHD in cell physiology and biostatistics. Several years of studies and hard
work has put me where I am today.
Tonight, we will hear a few of the highly educated doctors and experts in the field of breast cancer talk
about their knowledge and experiences studying this deadly disease. In the United States, 1 in 8
women are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. It is estimated that each year over 220,000
people will be diagnosed with breast cancer and is the second leading death among women.
Fortunately, breast cancer deaths have gone down in recent years due to advancements in screening
and treatment options and earlier detections.
Without further adieu we welcome Professor Trent Starr from the University of Harvard. Trent
graduated from Bucknell University where he received his PHD in cancer studies. Over to my left is
Doctor Richard Zampieron who is the head of Cancer treatments at Stony Brook University. He is also
the co founder and co creator of the American Cancer Society. And finally Liam Waring, who is the
surgical operations specialist at the Lehigh valley hospital.
So gentlemen before we explain about about the diagnosing and treatment for both cancer and
cancerous cells forming in both males and females, let s talk about different hints and clues that may
save your life in terms of how to detect and catch this deadly disease while it

The birth of the camera phone happened on June 11th, 1997...
The birth of the camera phone happened on June 11th, 1997 when Phillippe Kahn used to a cell phone
to send a picture of his newborn daughter to more than 2,000 people around the world. There was no
proper device known as a camera phone before this, so Kahn hacked together a digital camera and a
cell phone in order to send the photos in real time.
Kahn later began LightSurf, a company that was hugely influential in picture messaging. LightSurf
technology is still being used by Sprint, Verizon, and many other major carriers around the world.
Today is an age of instant information. With a reach into most peoples pockets, they have instant
access to world, local, and personal news; a tool to capture memories, and share them with friends, or

On the August 25th, 2012 Alex Nott was leaving a coffee shop outside of the Empire State Building,
while on holiday from his home in the United Kingdom. As he was leaving the coffee shop, he noticed
the sound of pops and people beginning to run, when he saw police gun down a man who had shot and
killed his former employer, who was exiting the Empire State Building. Nott reached for his phone
and began filming the aftermath of what he had just witnessed and then uploaded his perspective on
what had just happened through the CNN iReport App, along with hundreds of other CNN iReporters.
CNN was able to use the footage and later interview Nott on what he had witnessed and create a story
about the incident.
With the push of a button and being in the right (or wrong) place at the right (again... or wrong) time,
the media has given the power of journalism to the people. Anyone with a smart phone can essentially
become a reporter. Now, whether this style of reporting is truly journalism is debatable, but that goes
for mainstream media as a whole in this day and age. So does it take a college degree and an
expensive camera to be a photojournalist?

extremely similar stories; David Guttenfelder and Erin Trieb. Guttenfelder used a Polaroid filter app

Effects Of Neoliberalism
On February 17th I joined The Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP) in their march to City hall
in protest for their immediate goal of more warming centers and shelters. Of no coincidence the date
of the march fell strategically on the same day that Toronto chambers would be deciding on the Cities
budget. Preceding the march, OCAP members, and supporters gathered at the corner of Queen and
Sherbourne (the North East corner of Moss Park) and huddled around speakers rally cries for
homeless justice before heading west along Queen street towards city hall. The energy of march was
well organized, and no unrest ensued, chants demanding immediate action to open more shelters
reverberated through the crowd as we marched on. During the march I ... Show more content on

So, although many theorists hold that public space is absolutely essential for the function of
democratic politics it is interesting to contemplate whether or not public protest is the proper venue for
the homeless, and if not public protest than what avenue may be used by the homeless to create
socioeconomic change (Ruppert, 2006). Occupy Wall Street (OWS), a movement ignited throughout
the globe in 2011 is arguably a protest movement that successfully captured the public s attention and
was a protest on behalf of the 99%, that not only included homeless people but was made up by
unemployed in dept college graduates, workers struggling with illness, immigrants supporting
families, and those who encompass the struggling middle class. OWS was an incredible movement
that enthused people with homes to live outside of their homes and with homeless people , bringing
together the most marginalized within society and the middle class together (Kohn, 2013, p. 106).
OWS is an example in which poverty and the homeless agenda was taken seriously as it successful
was incorporated amongst other agendas. Unfortunately, this is a sad predicament, as it is an example
illuminating that homelessness on its own will not be

Angels And Insects Essay
A great Neo Victorian concern was to deconstruct the ideals and myths of the Victorian society and
belief, as they were foolishly enslaved by their own jaundice. The Victorians have made a sidewall to
inner and sometimes outer world, becoming mediocre in thinking and acting.
The aim of this essay consists in illustrating various aspects that were taken over from Victorians and
ingeniously rearranged by A.S. Byatt in her first short novel from Angels and Insects aspects regarding
the multitude of perspectives when it comes to analyzing the characters.
On the one hand, it was quite unusual for a man who lived in the Victorian era to be so sensitive to
female s feelings, to offer her his unconditionally love and compassion, and to be so open minded that
he is seen as a poor fish by narrow minded people. The model of gentleman is, thus, brought back to
its literary meaning, in the sense that William is gentle in thought and action. It may seem that he
founds the balance between reason and emotion by keeping a journal: He had always kept a journal.

The Pros And Cons Of US Military Bases
The Pros and Cons of US military bases overseas
Lee Mueller
Dr. Sooh Rhee Ryu
POLS 260
16 December 2016
According to Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense James R. Blaker, military bases are installations
routinely used by military forces that supply their personnel with the means and equipment to respond
to a threat within the land it occupies (The Editors, 2011). As the world s only superpower, the US
possesses more military bases in foreign countries than any other state in the entire world. In the year
2015, it was reported that the US had approximately 800 military bases in more than 70 countries
worldwide (Vine, 2015). By projecting power abroad, the US influences transnational and global
actors in an effort to maintain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To answer this we must look at the stability and political environments that encompass a state because
they play a large role in the ability of other actors to occupy land that it controls. For this reason, the
US should only associate with countries that follow their same beliefs. The US must be cautious as to
what countries that they decide to ally themselves with in order to analyze potential political outcomes
(Lostumbo, Michael J., McNerney, Michael J., Peltz, Eric, 2013). Factors that can play a role can
include a countries economic growth, annual GDP, or if there is ethnic conflict within the territory. If
analyzed in an efficient way, the argument can be made to allow for the structuring and development
of overseas bases in underdeveloped and/or developed

The new agreement addresses the shifting preferences of consumers who appear more reluctant to buy
DVDs in a shaky U.S. economy and a wider array of entertainment options. Terms of the latest deal
also cover Warner Bros. titles made available for streaming to Netflix customers. Streaming is an
increasingly important part of the company s strategy in the digital age; the number of subscribers
who streamed a movie or television episode from Netflix jumped by 20% over the third quarter of last

Benefits Of A Transplant Or A Kidney Transplant
Imagine yourself in a situation where your best friend got in a car accident and needs a kidney
transplant. When the doctor receives the news that you re the only applicable person because of blood
type, all eyes are on you. What would you do? Would you give or keep? Savings lives can be
something that is dreaded or heroic. In fact, each day, an average of 79 people receive organ
transplants because of the generous. However, an average of 21 people die each day waiting for
transplants that can t take place because of the shortage of donated organs (Organdonor.gov). How can
we fix this? Are you the friend that will give a helping hand or one that will run away? Currently,
more than 120 million people in the U.S. are signed up to be a donor. But statistics can be hard to
come by and something that can change the outlook on the way one looks at life is to recognize every
number as a person. That person could be in need of a lifesaving transplant or a person who has legacy
in being an active organ donor to many hoping for a favor in return. Not matter what, each number
could be a mom, dad, brother, sister, grandparent, child or a best friend. What matters most is that
number equals a life lost or lived by a transplant. Being a donor myself, there are many stigmas and
false accusations about this topic and in becoming an organ donor after death it is not only an
important decision for oneself to know the truth about this opportunity, but it is also one step closer to

Postindustrial Societies And Its Impact On The US
The daily life s for postindustrial, industrial and preindustrial societies are all different. Their
descriptions of each might sound familiar but are upgraded each time. Preindustrial is the oldest
society because it is based near the Industrial Revolution. It amazes me how far our societies have
come and how they have impacted the US. If you don t know anything about these societies your
about to. Postindustrial society is where the economic importance is about providing information and
services. In postindustrial societies information and advanced technology are more important than
manufacturing goods. Post industrialization can be found in places like Europe, Japan, even the United

A Study On The Chat Before The Heels Of Advocate General...
As I noted in our chat before the webinar began, coming on the heels of Advocate General Yves Bot s
opinion (such an accelerated timeline is unprecedented; a final decision usually issues 3 4 months after
the AG opinion) the news that the European Court of Justice plans to issue a final decision on October
6 raises the prospect of a swift one two punch to the Safe Harbor arrangement. The outcome could
throw the existing Safe Harbor framework into disarray and conceivably invalidate it. 2. A final
opinion invalidating the framework approved in the Commission s 2000 opinion would be seismic.

They are being pummeled by the Parliament to suspend Safe Harbor immediately. 5. Note: the specific
question referred by the Irish High Court is the authority of DPAs to investigate and suspend transfers
under Safe Harbor. If, as the AG did, the ECJ finds that DPAs have that authority to suspend without
limitation by the Commission, one can envision a tsunami of DPA actions to suspend data transfers or
complaints asking them to do so. 6. Along with these, DPAs and the Commission can expect a rush of
submissions of Binding Corporate Rules and Model Contract clauses as organizations that have relied
on Safe Harbor look for alternatives, though Omer Tene has suggested these too may be subject to
challenge on the rationale of an opinion like the AG s. Omer is a friend and Associate Professor at the

the Commission s 2000 decision is invalid would nullify the legal basis for data transfers under the
Safe Harbor framework unless the Court limits the scope or the effective date of such a ruling. The
impact would fall not only on the big Internet brand names that are often the objects of European
angst, but on a great many smaller EU enterprises that lack choices for where to store data. 8. The

Post Civil War North Carolina
Post Civil War North Carolina, as a part of the New South , was supposed to be an economically and
morally prosperous state that was no longer reliant on slave labor. Unfortunately, the abolition of
slavery did not abolish the misfortune of black and white North Carolinians alike before 1900. Racism
was still very much alive, blacks did not enjoy the rights they supposedly acquired after the war, the
same rich families from before the war were still rich, and the people that were poor before the war
were still struggling.
The New South mentality attempted to modernize North Carolina s previously agrarian economy
through industrialization. Businessmen, such as Richard J. Reynolds, strategically erected factories in
North Carolina for access to its prestigious railroads to swiftly transport their products. Factory
owners had no trouble finding employees, as many North Carolinians were eager to avoid the
hardships of farm labor. Towns began to rise around the factories after the influx of laborers came
about. Such a plethora of potential workers allowed factory owners to pay their employees drastically
low wages as they reaped the benefits of cheap labor. Low wages combined with pitiful working
conditions resulted in these factory towns resembling life on slave plantations before the war.
North Carolina tobacco factories manufactured and sold such high volumes of tobacco products world
wide that they became the face of the industry. For example, a Bull Durham smoking

Essay Social Contract
The Social Contract
Rousseau s principal aim in writing The Social Contract is to determine how freedom may be possible
in civil society, and we might do well to pause briefly and understand what he means by quot;freedom.
quot; In the state of nature we enjoy the physical freedom of having no restraints on our behavior. By
entering into the social contract, we place restraints on our behavior, which make it possible to live in
a community. By giving up our physical freedom, however, we gain the civil freedom of being able to
think rationally. We can put a check on our impulses and desires, and thus learn to think morally. The

Thus, the group collectively is more important than each individual that makes it up. The sovereign
and the general will are more important than its subjects and their particular wills. Rousseau goes so
far as to speak of the sovereign as a distinct individual that can act of its own accord.
We might react to these arguments with serious reservations, and indeed, Rousseau has been accused
of endorsing totalitarianism. We live in an age where individual rights are considered vitally
important, and it is insulting to think that we are just small parts of a greater whole. Rather than make
freedom possible, it would seem to us that Rousseau s system revokes freedom.
Rousseau would not take these charges lying down, however. Looking at us in the new millennium, he
might suggest that we are not free at all. On the whole, we may lack any kind of personal agency or
initiative. We often have difficulty interacting with one another in any meaningful way, and it could be
argued that our decisions and behavior are largely dictated to us by a consumer culture that
discourages individual thought.
His system, he might claim, only seems unattractive to us because we have totally lost the community
spirit that makes people want to be together. Citizens in his ideal republic are not forced into a
community: they agree to

Whole Cell Protein Lab Report
Molecules found in nature (termed natural products ) are a rich source of compounds with biological
activities that are useful as drugs. Marine organisms are a particularly good source of natural products.
Imagine that you are a marine biologist searching for new natural products for use as anticancer drugs.
While diving at a coral reef near Tahiti, you notice an unusual sponge that you have never seen before.
You collect a sample, return to your lab and make a whole cell protein extract.
1. Come up with an experimental design to see if this sponge has anticancer properties.
Making a whole cell protein extract:
Living cells should be cultured on petri dishes and then incubated with a tracer in order for
downstream flux analysis. Once the metabolic processes have been quenched, the next step is to lyse
the cells, separating both the polar and non polar metabolites from the other cellular substances at the
same time. After these steps, the cells are shaken to completely lyse the membranes allowing for a
more efficient extraction of all possible biomolecules. After shaking, there should be a clear separation
between the polar and non polar phase for the metabolites, with a well defined interphase containing
proteins and nucleic acids. After centrifugation, the different phases are now separated, and each one
can be sampled for further analysis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The value of patriotism is seen throughout military and American flag images in the advertisement.
The value of nontraditional gender roles is subtly seen through the auditory and visual illustrations in
the advertisement. Amy McGrath explains that in a previous experience of hers, her local
Congressman wrote to her that he believed that women should not be allowed to serve in combat as
the image of the letter appears on screen with the parts mentioned highlighted. McGrath explains that
she persisted and joined the Naval Academy anyway. This appeals to nontraditional gender roles
because it persuades the viewers that McGrath is different because she is a woman who broke the
mold in a male dominated area. McGrath is also seen with having short hair and wearing a dark
bomber jacket, white button up, and loose pants. McGrath is noticeably not wearing much make up
and has simple earrings and a wedding band. By wearing non feminine clothes, McGrath appeals to
value of nontraditional gender roles. McGrath is shown to walking with her husband and young
children down a grassy hill. McGrath is seen in a bright pink shirt and khaki dress pants while holding
her husband s hand. Her husband is wearing a blue button up shirt and dark dress pants while holding
their toddler. Twin preschooler boys, dressed in the same blue polo and khaki shorts, run and play in
front of their parents.

Types of Personality Tests
My Personality I took two personality test and scored what I think is pretty accurate. The first test I
took was created by a church but still accurate in the psychology field. By taking this test it would
help you figure out if your personality is one of the four types of people. The four types are choleric,
sanguine, phlegmatic or melancholy. Choleric is in short words adventurous, determined, outspoken,
and strong willed. Next is Sanguine which is playful, sociable, lively, and imaginative. Phlegmatic is
said to be thoughtful, adaptable, attentive, and controlled. Last is Melancholy which is detailed,
orderly, persistent, and deep. On this particular test I took a series of questions and gave an answer
that best fitted me. In doing so I found that I have a primary and secondary personality. My primary
personality was Phlegmatic which means I m relaxed and chilled out so to speak. My secondary
personality was Choleric in term means that I m kind of commanding but like to get the ball rolling.
The next test that I took was the Myers Briggs Preference Questionnaire. I personally think that by
taking this test you can up to 3 of 4 personalities depending on your answers. Just like the test before a
series of questions was giving and my results were (INFP). Now (INFP) means Introverted, Intuitive,
Feeling, and Prospecting. Introverted means that a person may prefer to be solitary activities, think
before speaking, and may get exhausted by social interaction. Intuitive

Comparing Christina Rossetti’s Goblin Market and William...
Comparing Christina Rossetti s Goblin Market and William Wordsworth s The Thorn
On the surface, the poems Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti and The Thorn by William
Wordsworth appear to be very different literary works. Goblin Market was written by a young woman
in the Victorian period about two sisters who develop a special bond through the rescue of one sister
by the other. The Thorn was written by the Romantic poet William Wordsworth about a middle aged
man and his experience overlooking a woman s emotional breakdown. Material to understanding the
works Goblin Market and The Thorn is recognizing the common underlying themes of sex and gender
and how these themes affect perspective in both poems. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So another situation is created in which the fallen woman must rely upon her sister to provide strength
and health through self sacrifice until the addiction can be overcome. Also reinforced are Rossetti s
warnings to her reader that men are dangerous, and that women serve as the only strength for one
another.
The ideas of feminism and oppression also determine Rossetti s point of view throughout Goblin
Market. The first and most present throughout is the perspective of Lizzie. She is portrayed as the
wiser more mature sister. Lizzie is standing outside of the oppressive situations of first, Jeannie and
most importantly, her sister Laura. Both troublesome situations are caused by the Goblin men, and
Lizzie can somehow see straight through their evil ways. Lizzie comes to Laura s rescue with bravery
and diligence just in time to save her sister from the ultimate doom of the illness : She brings the fiery
antidote, and she is the fiery antidote, and ...she brings back the forbidden fruit without tasting it
herself, quotes Mermin (112.) Both Lizzie s maturity and Laura s childishness are indicated by the
strength they have against the temptation of the forbidden fruit.
Laura represents the younger sister, who is naïve and less wise to the ways of the evil Goblin men and
the male dominated world. She relies heavily on her older sister to save her from the personal
consequences of the Goblin

Hilltop College Case Study
Hilltop College Case Study
Hilltop College is a top rated historically black college and university (HBCU) which recently hired a
new university president. President Seymour Rollins has a notable pedigree, but does not have an
affiliation with Hilltop or any other HBCU. President Hardaway, the previous president and Hilltop
alum, retired after overhauling the campus technology system, and setting a record for the most recent
fundraising campaign. President Hardaway was known for being aloof and authoritarian with student
and faculty, and received a vote of no confidence from the faculty senate.
During his tenure, President Rollins created an atmosphere that increased both the student and faculty
morale by opening communications lines between the faculty and administration, while also building
new facilities and research centers. With little information, I am assuming President Rollins proposed
a change in the governance structure of the board leading to the letter from the vice chairperson noting
her displeasure with President Rollins. President Rollins ignored the initial letter focusing his time on
graduation only to be blindsided by an article in Higher Ed Today in June.
Key Problems and Issues
HBCU s are deep rooted in history and tradition. I believe hiring an outsider brought many
reservations from some board members which led to the letter by the vice chairperson. In my opinion,
I believe the vice chairperson leaked the letter to Higher Ed Today since she did

Sex Offenders Should Be Strict
Do you feel safe sending your children out in a neighborhood with registered sexual offenders? Is the
government doing enough to protect our children and ourselves from these dangers? In 2003 78,188
children fell victim to forms of sexual abuse (Finkelhor). We should be protecting our children, 1 in 4
women and 1 in 6 men will experience some kind of sexual assault in their lifetime, also 67% of
sexual assaults have victims under the age of 18, ( Dru Sjodin National Sex Offender Website. ).
Nationwide, sex offenders were four times more likely to reoffend, and be rearrested for a sexual
related crime. Because the recidivism rate is so high, and because we must protect our citizens, sex
offender laws should remain strict.

They believe that the residency restriction laws force former offenders into exile, and often into
homelessness. ( Sex Offender Issues ). Sexual offenders are forced to live far away from family
members and friends, often times for small offenses or something they committed years ago. It should
not matter how long ago one offended, the key word is that they did offend. Some say, the registry is
nothing more than a Scarlet Letter to put people to shame ( US: Sex Offender Laws May Do More
Harm Than Good. ). The people who get put onto the registry have committed a terrible crime; they
deserve the humiliation they may receive. Many claim that we treat those on the registry list with
disrespect and fear and this open information can put the offenders family in danger for ridicule and
isolation as well. ( IX. Residency Restriction Laws. ) The family of an offender should be embarrassed
by their son or daughter s behavior towards other human beings. Jamie Fellner, director of the US
program at Human Rights Watch, says, The public believes everyone on a sex offender registry is
dangerous. But what s the point of requiring registration by a teenager who exposed himself as a high
school prank or even by someone who molested a child 30 years ago? ( US: Sex Offender Laws May
Do More Harm Than Good. ). Kids need to learn the severity to exposing themselves; being forced to
sign up for the registry serves as the punishment, hopefully enabling more kids to stop and think
before they act. Many argue that the registration poses an issue with the job market. It is extremely
difficult for an offender on the registry to find a suitable job, no one wants an offender in their
workplace and they don t want that bad publicity. It becomes difficult to oneself when one can not find
a job and may have been just released from prison, therefore many

Essay on Paradise by Toni Morrison
Paradise by Toni Morrison
Nine patriarchs found a town. Four women flee a life. Only one paradise is attained. Toni Morrison s
novel Paradise revolves around the concept of paradise, and those who believe they have it and those
who actually do. Morrison uses a town and a former convent, each with its own religious center, to tell
her tale about finding solace in an oppressive world. Whether fleeing inter and intra racial conflict or
emotional hurt, the characters travel a path of self isolation and eventual redemption. In her novel
Paradise, Toni Morrison uses the town of Ruby and four broken women to demonstrate how paradise
can not be achieved through isolation, but rather only through understanding and acceptance. ... Show

The citizens begin to associate with the outside world that had once despised them, and they became
eager to get away and try someplace else (6). The town of Haven had gone from feet to belly in fifty
years (5) and because of this the New Fathers decide to dismantle the Oven and relocate. The New
Fathers sought to keep the dream of a paradise alive because they knew what they might become if
they did not begin anew (6). Fifteen families pack their bags and leave to found the town of Ruby, a
town isolated by ninety miles from anything.
Just like its predecessor, Ruby is founded on the concept that isolation equals protection. The citizens
view Ruby as a fortress [they] bought and built up and [which they had] to keep everybody locked in
or out (213). It is a town where outsider and enemy are . . . two words [that] mean the same thing

herding a flock which [believes] not only that it [has] created the pasture it [grazes] but that grass from
any other meadow [is] toxic (212). In an effort to retain this isolation which they believe to be
paradise, the citizens did not build anything to serve a traveler: no diner, no police, no gas station, no
public phone, no movie house, no hospital (12).

The Opium Wars In China
My first choice is the Opium Wars. Throughout the beginning of major overseas exploration and trade,
China had remained with its doors closed to most foreigners. Tobacco was one product that China did
buy from Europeans in the seventeenth century (WTWA 4th ed. 588). Not long after, opium was
integrated into the cigarettes (notes. Nov. 26). In 1729, China banned the import of Opium, but it
continued to circulate in the Chinese society (WTW 4th ed. 588). In the early 19th century, Britain
was comfortable with selling drugs to China. This upset the Chinese, so they seized and destroyed one
of Britain s opium shipments. In turn, Britain wanted compensation and a war broke out. This lead to
the signing of the Treaty of Nanjing, in which the Chinese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Confucius continues to be in my top 3 because of his outlook on education. It is important to me that
education is available to all, and Confucius ideals parallel with that. On the other hand, neither the
Black Plague nor the World Pandemic are related to education, but they are both natural causes of
large scale deaths among the human race. I think it is important to note that wars are not the only way
that large groups of people are killed. It is also important to realize how these illnesses are spread;
trade does not only mean exchange of goods, but bugs as well. Therefore, I believe that the Black
Plague and the World Pandemic clearly represent the broader effects of travel and interaction between
different people. I have one final thought: if everyone was educated, (like Confucius desired), maybe
the spread of such viruses would not be as prevalent for people would know more about such

Guess whos coming to dinner
Equality for All
Stanley Kramer s film, Guess Who s Coming to Dinner, is about an interracial marriage between a
black man and a white woman as well as the generational divide between the alarmed parents of both
races and the optimistic young couple. There are aspects of the film that can be construed as
progressive and influential for the era, the film more accurately serves as a reflection of the larger
socio political context of 1960 s America in regards to both attitudes of antagonism and acceptance of
interracial marriage.
Guess Who s Coming to Dinner addressed a forbidden subject during the pinnacle of cultural changes
in America. This film is brilliantly put together, and part of that reason is because of the outstanding
cast. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film influenced members of the American public to consider the possibility of interracial dating in
their own lives and to re examine their own biases. The film was not as progressive as it potentially
could have been since it avoided serious confrontations with racism while maintaining elements of
white dominance in order to attract white audiences.
He states very explicitly, I know that the white man made the black woman the symbol of slavery and
the white woman the symbol of freedom. Every time I embrace a black woman I m embracing slavery,
and when I put my arms around a white woman, well, I m hugging freedom (Cleaver, 170 ).
Therefore, Cleaver explains his attraction to white women as an attraction to the long established
symbols of freedom and racial supremacy. This idea is comparable to the symbols of freedom in
Guess Who s Coming to Dinner. Toplin argues that love and the ability to choose a mate without
restrictions symbolized freedom in Kramer s film (Harris and Toplin, 707).
Guess Who s Coming to Dinner accurately reflects how fears surrounding interracial marriage also
greatly concerned many blacks in American society. Fear being one of the more important underlying
messages that is

A Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man Analysis
A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce draws on many details of Joyce s own actual
life, while also using fictional situations and events. Although the novel is more than just
autobiographical, its protagonist, Stephen Dedalus, is essentially Joyce s alter ego, a fictional double,
if you will. Both Stephen and Joyce share the same political and religious background and encounter
the same influences and pressures. They both were the son of a devoutly religious mother and a
financially clumsy father, resulting in their constant relocations. Like his protagonist, Joyce also
attended the same schools, where they both struggled with questions of faith and nationality.
Ultimately, both characters experience many circumstances obsession with language and strain
relations with religion, family, and culture which eventually lead to the betrayal of their country,
church, and family. Joyce makes Portrait a very intriguing novel by not only recounting elements of
his own childhood through his protagonist, but by additionally depicting what it means to be a young
man growing up in a confusing, modern world. A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man tells the story
of Stephen Dedalus, a young man who encounters many difficult situations, until he finally finds his
way and his true self. Stephen is the oldest child of an Irish Catholic family, who due to financial

Meaning Of Psalm 139
SIM #7 Psalm 139 Genre: The genre of Psalm 139 is Hebrew poetry, simply because the psalms were
written in Hebrew and are a collection of poems and laments. The first principle of interoperation is
that the psalms blend experience, emotion, and theology. This should be taken into account while
reading the poem in order that the reader does not simply skip over the theology by only focusing on
experience and emotion. The second interoperation principle is that each psalm should be read as a
whole. Verses of psalms should not be taken out of context, in doing this the reader may distort the
meaning of the psalm. Another interpretation principle to take into consideration is the different genres
of psalms such as: laments, thanksgiving, hymns of praise, wisdom, and songs of trust. With that being
said, Psalm 139 not only falls under the Hebrew poetry genre, but is also classified as a psalm of trust.
Lastly, the fourth interpretation principle is that parallelisms are used. In other words, ideas correlate
in many different ways such as: synonymously, antithesis, intensifying, specifying, and synthetically.
Grammatical/Literacy: Why does David specify that God will hold him with his right hand? What is
the depths and does this refer to hell?

period)?

the Mosaic Covenant?

The Genesis Of American Baptists
The Genesis of American Baptists
The American Baptist Movement came from England in the 17th century, after the Baptists were
persecuted by the Church of England for being dissenting separatists. In the eighteenth and nineteenth
centuries, new members were converted and congregations were formed by Baptist preachers who
traveled throughout the South, in particular during the eras of the First and Second Great Awakenings.
The Triennial Convention
The Triennial Convention was formed in 1814, when American Baptists unified nationally. The
convention met every three years and was based in Philadelphia. The Home Mission Society was
started in 1832. It was affiliated with the Triennial Convention, and existed to support missions in the
United States, particularly in the frontier territories. In spite of this unity in mission among American
Baptists, by the middle of the nineteenth century, there were several social, cultural, economic, and
political differences becoming apparent among Northern business, Western farmers, and Southern
planters.
Conflict and Separation
In 1844, there was great division over the issue of slavery. The Baptists of the South felt that the
Northerners position that slaveholding brethren were less than followers of Jesus effectively obliged
slaveholding Southerners to leave the fellowship . There was also disagreement between the
Northerners and Southerners over the number of missionaries being supported and sent to the South

The U.S. government is fully aware that mass killings and hate crimes are distant relatives and close
cousins to domestic terrorism, so in lieu of sponsoring a bill to reclassify the definition of domestic
terrorism, lawmakers like Texas Senator John Cornyn and North Carolina Representative Richard
Hudson sponsor bills such as the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act (H. R. 38) which
will allow individuals with a license to conceal carry in one state permission to conceal carry in every
state, regardless of State s gun laws The U.S. continues to implement effective initiatives and provide
adequate resources for the war on international terrorism; whereas the threat magnitude of
international terrorism is miniscule in comparison to the number of mass shootings and hate crimes
which take place in this country on a daily basis. Acts of terrorism plants fear and terror into the hearts
and minds of individuals but when mass shootings occur in the U.S., they get classified as murder or
hate crimes. This research will show that mass shootings and hate crimes inflict the same type of
terror in the hearts and minds of individuals throughout communities within the U.S. as terrorist
attacks have inflicted on communities.

Essay on George Washington s Pesidency
George Washington s Presidency
George Washington is regarded as a natural leader and the father of our country. He was the first
president under the Constitution, not the first president of the United States. From the very beginning,
he came into a job full of problems and a mile long to do list. He had to set up the Judiciary Branch,
deal with uprisings and conflicts between the natives and the western settlers, and try to keep together
a nation that was falling apart. He created a group of advisors (the cabinet) to help him with certain
issues. He had a few things on his mind at the time such as: stay out of a war, build up revenue to pay
off Revolutionary War debt, and try to make peace with England.

The Judiciary Act of 1789 established a six member supreme court. It was comprised of one Chief
Justice and five Associate Justices. It had jurisdiction over all civil actions between states, or between
a state and the United States. Also in the act it created thirteen Judicial Districts. Within these Judicial
Districts were circuit courts and district courts.
After finishing the Judicial Branch, Washington finally got time to create the Executive Branch. The
first offices created were the Secretary of the State, (headed by Thomas Jefferson) the Secretary of the
Treasury, (headed by Alexander Hamilton) the Secretary of War, (headed by Henry Knox) the
Postmaster General, (headed by Samuel Osgood) and the Attorney General (headed by Edmund
Randolph). These offices became the backbone for the Presidential Cabinet. On July 27, 1789,
Washington signed a bill into law reauthorizing an Executive Department of Foreign Affairs headed
by a Secretary of Foreign Affairs.
Washington was the major player to the creation of the United States Government under the
constitution. He did more in his first months in office than any other president so far. He was the best

Washington did so. He did a great job of setting up other courts around the

used pea plants known as Pisumsativum in his research where he developed two fundamental laws of

genetic fitness(Tompkins, 1990). The Chi Square ( ) test was used in this experiment to determine
whether the statistical data supports or rejects the hypothesis.
Materials and Methods The experiment was successfully accomplished in classroom where the
Brassica Rapa were grown under suitable conditions. The experiment began by developing a watering
system to the plants using the idea of capillary action. The watering system was made up of a plastic
reservoir filled with a certain amount of water and a water mat placed on the top of the plastic
reservoir. This design was helpful in making sure that the plants are receiving water constantly. Also,
one piece of copper sulfate was addedinto the reservoir to avoid any algal growth. Two Styrofoam
quads with four cells each were used for planting the seeds of Brassica Rapa. The cells were numbered
from one to eight and a wick was placed in each cell in a way that allowed water access from the
water mat through the capillary action. Each cell was then half way filled with soil and two fertilizers
were placed in

Eliot s poem, The Waste Land, proclaim, April is the cruelest month, breeding Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing Memory and desire, stirring Dull roots with spring rain (lines 1 4). 1 4) This stanzaese ilines invokes a strange mix of hopeful images, layered with words of despair.veiled beneath words of despair . Many would agree there is a clear feeling of hopelessness throughout the poem; however, through poetic allusions to redemption, glimpses of optimism are seen in Eliot s work, suggesting all may not be lost. His references to the redeeming hellfire of Dante s Divine Comedy, and transformation through tragedy in The Story of Tereus and Philomela, show that Eliot perhaps holds onto a glimmer of hope for society s despondent state.fordespondent state . Eliot calls to our attention the degradation of society using the theme of lust throughout The Waste Land. In A Game of Chess and again in The Fire Sermon, he describes how sex has become an act devoid of meaning and emotion. The speakers in these sections show how society has separated sex and love, stripping it of its significance. However, in What the Thunder Said , Eliot points the way to redemption. He quotes Dante stating, Poi s ascose nel foco che gli affina (line 427) which translates to, Then he hid himself in the fire that refines them. The purifying fire he speaks of comes from Canto 26 of Dante s Purgatorio . In this passage, Dante is traveling through terrace seven ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Study On Cell Physiology And Biostatistics J: Welcome everyone. I am Jake Rossein, I graduated Johns Hopkins University and Columbia University where I got my PHD in cell physiology and biostatistics. Several years of studies and hard work has put me where I am today. Tonight, we will hear a few of the highly educated doctors and experts in the field of breast cancer talk about their knowledge and experiences studying this deadly disease. In the United States, 1 in 8 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. It is estimated that each year over 220,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer and is the second leading death among women. Fortunately, breast cancer deaths have gone down in recent years due to advancements in screening and treatment options and earlier detections. Without further adieu we welcome Professor Trent Starr from the University of Harvard. Trent graduated from Bucknell University where he received his PHD in cancer studies. Over to my left is Doctor Richard Zampieron who is the head of Cancer treatments at Stony Brook University. He is also the co founder and co creator of the American Cancer Society. And finally Liam Waring, who is the surgical operations specialist at the Lehigh valley hospital. So gentlemen before we explain about about the diagnosing and treatment for both cancer and cancerous cells forming in both males and females, let s talk about different hints and clues that may save your life in terms of how to detect and catch this deadly disease while it ... The birth of the camera phone happened on June 11th, 1997 when Phillippe Kahn used to a cell phone to send a picture of his newborn daughter to more than 2,000 people around the world. There was no proper device known as a camera phone before this, so Kahn hacked together a digital camera and a cell phone in order to send the photos in real time. Kahn later began LightSurf, a company that was hugely influential in picture messaging. LightSurf technology is still being used by Sprint, Verizon, and many other major carriers around the world. As he was leaving the coffee shop, he noticed the sound of pops and people beginning to run, when he saw police gun down a man who had shot and killed his former employer, who was exiting the Empire State Building. Nott reached for his phone and began filming the aftermath of what he had just witnessed and then uploaded his perspective on what had just happened through the CNN iReport App, along with hundreds of other CNN iReporters. CNN was able to use the footage and later interview Nott on what he had witnessed and create a story about the incident. With the push of a button and being in the right (or wrong) place at the right (again... or wrong) time, the media has given the power of journalism to the people. Anyone with a smart phone can essentially become a reporter. Now, whether this style of reporting is truly journalism is debatable, but that goes for mainstream media as a whole in this day and age. So does it take a college degree and an expensive camera to be a photojournalist? Effects Of Neoliberalism On February 17th I joined The Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP) in their march to City hall in protest for their immediate goal of more warming centers and shelters. Of no coincidence the date of the march fell strategically on the same day that Toronto chambers would be deciding on the Cities budget. Preceding the march, OCAP members, and supporters gathered at the corner of Queen and Sherbourne (the North East corner of Moss Park) and huddled around speakers rally cries for homeless justice before heading west along Queen street towards city hall. So, although many theorists hold that public space is absolutely essential for the function of democratic politics it is interesting to contemplate whether or not public protest is the proper venue for the homeless, and if not public protest than what avenue may be used by the homeless to create socioeconomic change (Ruppert, 2006). Occupy Wall Street (OWS), a movement ignited throughout the globe in 2011 is arguably a protest movement that successfully captured the public s attention and was a protest on behalf of the 99%, that not only included homeless people but was made up by unemployed in dept college graduates, workers struggling with illness, immigrants supporting families, and those who encompass the struggling middle class. OWS was an incredible movement that enthused people with homes to live outside of their homes and with homeless people , bringing together the most marginalized within society and the middle class together (Kohn, 2013, p. 106). • 8. Angels And Insects Essay A great Neo Victorian concern was to deconstruct the ideals and myths of the Victorian society and belief, as they were foolishly enslaved by their own jaundice. The Victorians have made a sidewall to inner and sometimes outer world, becoming mediocre in thinking and acting. The aim of this essay consists in illustrating various aspects that were taken over from Victorians and ingeniously rearranged by A.S. Byatt in her first short novel from Angels and Insects aspects regarding the multitude of perspectives when it comes to analyzing the characters. On the one hand, it was quite unusual for a man who lived in the Victorian era to be so sensitive to female s feelings, to offer her his unconditionally love and compassion, and to be so open minded that he is seen as a poor fish by narrow minded people. The model of gentleman is, thus, brought back to its literary meaning, in the sense that William is gentle in thought and action. It may seem that he founds the balance between reason and emotion by keeping a journal: He had always kept a journal. The Pros And Cons Of US Military Bases The Pros and Cons of US military bases overseas Lee Mueller Dr. Sooh Rhee Ryu POLS 260 16 December 2016 According to Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense James R. Blaker, military bases are installations routinely used by military forces that supply their personnel with the means and equipment to respond to a threat within the land it occupies (The Editors, 2011). As the world s only superpower, the US possesses more military bases in foreign countries than any other state in the entire world. In the year 2015, it was reported that the US had approximately 800 military bases in more than 70 countries worldwide (Vine, 2015). To answer this we must look at the stability and political environments that encompass a state because they play a large role in the ability of other actors to occupy land that it controls. For this reason, the US should only associate with countries that follow their same beliefs. The US must be cautious as to what countries that they decide to ally themselves with in order to analyze potential political outcomes (Lostumbo, Michael J., McNerney, Michael J., Peltz, Eric, 2013). Terms of the latest deal also cover Warner Bros. titles made available for streaming to Netflix customers. Streaming is an increasingly important part of the company s strategy in the digital age; the number of subscribers who streamed a movie or television episode from Netflix jumped by 20% over the third quarter of last year. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, owned by Time Warner Inc. (TWX), announced its intention several months ago to renegotiate terms with Netflix. When the doctor receives the news that you re the only applicable person because of blood type, all eyes are on you. What would you do? Would you give or keep? Savings lives can be something that is dreaded or heroic. In fact, each day, an average of 79 people receive organ transplants because of the generous. However, an average of 21 people die each day waiting for transplants that can t take place because of the shortage of donated organs (Organdonor.gov). How can we fix this? Are you the friend that will give a helping hand or one that will run away? Currently, more than 120 million people in the U.S. are signed up to be a donor. But statistics can be hard to come by and something that can change the outlook on the way one looks at life is to recognize every number as a person. That person could be in need of a lifesaving transplant or a person who has legacy in being an active organ donor to many hoping for a favor in return. Not matter what, each number could be a mom, dad, brother, sister, grandparent, child or a best friend. What matters most is that number equals a life lost or lived by a transplant. Their descriptions of each might sound familiar but are upgraded each time. Preindustrial is the oldest society because it is based near the Industrial Revolution. It amazes me how far our societies have come and how they have impacted the US. If you don t know anything about these societies your about to. Postindustrial society is where the economic importance is about providing information and services. In postindustrial societies information and advanced technology are more important than manufacturing goods. Post industrialization can be found in places like Europe, Japan, even the United States. As I noted in our chat before the webinar began, coming on the heels of Advocate General Yves Bot s opinion (such an accelerated timeline is unprecedented; a final decision usually issues 3 4 months after the AG opinion) the news that the European Court of Justice plans to issue a final decision on October 6 raises the prospect of a swift one two punch to the Safe Harbor arrangement. The outcome could throw the existing Safe Harbor framework into disarray and conceivably invalidate it. 2. They are being pummeled by the Parliament to suspend Safe Harbor immediately. 5. Note: the specific question referred by the Irish High Court is the authority of DPAs to investigate and suspend transfers under Safe Harbor. If, as the AG did, the ECJ finds that DPAs have that authority to suspend without limitation by the Commission, one can envision a tsunami of DPA actions to suspend data transfers or complaints asking them to do so. 6. Along with these, DPAs and the Commission can expect a rush of submissions of Binding Corporate Rules and Model Contract clauses as organizations that have relied on Safe Harbor look for alternatives, though Omer Tene has suggested these too may be subject to challenge on the rationale of an opinion like the AG s. Omer is a friend and Associate Professor at the College of Management School of Law at the Stanford University Center for Internet and Society. He writes extensively about the internet, privacy, our digital lives, etc. 7. Lastly, a clear declaration that the Commission s 2000 decision is invalid would nullify the legal basis for data transfers under the Safe Harbor framework unless the Court limits the scope or the effective date of such a ruling. • 15. Post Civil War North Carolina Post Civil War North Carolina, as a part of the New South , was supposed to be an economically and morally prosperous state that was no longer reliant on slave labor. Unfortunately, the abolition of slavery did not abolish the misfortune of black and white North Carolinians alike before 1900. Racism was still very much alive, blacks did not enjoy the rights they supposedly acquired after the war, the same rich families from before the war were still rich, and the people that were poor before the war were still struggling. The New South mentality attempted to modernize North Carolina s previously agrarian economy through industrialization. Businessmen, such as Richard J. Reynolds, strategically erected factories in North Carolina for access to its prestigious railroads to swiftly transport their products. Factory owners had no trouble finding employees, as many North Carolinians were eager to avoid the hardships of farm labor. Towns began to rise around the factories after the influx of laborers came about. Such a plethora of potential workers allowed factory owners to pay their employees drastically low wages as they reaped the benefits of cheap labor. Low wages combined with pitiful working conditions resulted in these factory towns resembling life on slave plantations before the war. North Carolina tobacco factories manufactured and sold such high volumes of tobacco products world wide that they became the face of the industry. For example, a Bull Durham smoking ... By entering into the social contract, we place restraints on our behavior, which make it possible to live in a community. Rousseau goes so far as to speak of the sovereign as a distinct individual that can act of its own accord. We might react to these arguments with serious reservations, and indeed, Rousseau has been accused of endorsing totalitarianism. We live in an age where individual rights are considered vitally important, and it is insulting to think that we are just small parts of a greater whole. Rather than make freedom possible, it would seem to us that Rousseau s system revokes freedom. Rousseau would not take these charges lying down, however. Looking at us in the new millennium, he might suggest that we are not free at all. On the whole, we may lack any kind of personal agency or initiative. We often have difficulty interacting with one another in any meaningful way, and it could be argued that our decisions and behavior are largely dictated to us by a consumer culture that discourages individual thought. Making a whole cell protein extract: Living cells should be cultured on petri dishes and then incubated with a tracer in order for downstream flux analysis. Once the metabolic processes have been quenched, the next step is to lyse the cells, separating both the polar and non polar metabolites from the other cellular substances at the same time. After these steps, the cells are shaken to completely lyse the membranes allowing for a more efficient extraction of all possible biomolecules. After shaking, there should be a clear separation between the polar and non polar phase for the metabolites, with a well defined interphase containing proteins and nucleic acids. The first test I took was created by a church but still accurate in the psychology field. By taking this test it would help you figure out if your personality is one of the four types of people. The four types are choleric, sanguine, phlegmatic or melancholy. Choleric is in short words adventurous, determined, outspoken, and strong willed. Next is Sanguine which is playful, sociable, lively, and imaginative. Phlegmatic is said to be thoughtful, adaptable, attentive, and controlled. Last is Melancholy which is detailed, orderly, persistent, and deep. On this particular test I took a series of questions and gave an answer that best fitted me. In doing so I found that I have a primary and secondary personality. My primary personality was Phlegmatic which means I m relaxed and chilled out so to speak. My secondary personality was Choleric in term means that I m kind of commanding but like to get the ball rolling. The next test that I took was the Myers Briggs Preference Questionnaire. The second interoperation principle is that each psalm should be read as a whole. Verses of psalms should not be taken out of context, in doing this the reader may distort the meaning of the psalm. Another interpretation principle to take into consideration is the different genres of psalms such as: laments, thanksgiving, hymns of praise, wisdom, and songs of trust. With that being said, Psalm 139 not only falls under the Hebrew poetry genre, but is also classified as a psalm of trust. Lastly, the fourth interpretation principle is that parallelisms are used. In other words, ideas correlate in many different ways such as: synonymously, antithesis, intensifying, specifying, and synthetically. Grammatical/Literacy: Why does David specify that God will hold him with his right hand? What is the depths and does this refer to hell? Historical/Cultural: Are concerning and precious interchangeable in Hebrew (During this time period)? Does written in your (God s) book refer to the Old Testament that has been previously written, such as the Mosaic Covenant? ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The Genesis Of American Baptists The Genesis of American Baptists The American Baptist Movement came from England in the 17th century, after the Baptists were persecuted by the Church of England for being dissenting separatists. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, new members were converted and congregations were formed by Baptist preachers who traveled throughout the South, in particular during the eras of the First and Second Great Awakenings. The Triennial Convention The Triennial Convention was formed in 1814, when American Baptists unified nationally. The convention met every three years and was based in Philadelphia. The Home Mission Society was started in 1832. It was affiliated with the Triennial Convention, and existed to support missions in the United States, particularly in the frontier territories. In spite of this unity in mission among American Baptists, by the middle of the nineteenth century, there were several social, cultural, economic, and political differences becoming apparent among Northern business, Western farmers, and Southern planters. Conflict and Separation In 1844, there was great division over the issue of slavery. The Baptists of the South felt that the Northerners position that slaveholding brethren were less than followers of Jesus effectively obliged slaveholding Southerners to leave the fellowship . There was also disagreement between the Northerners and Southerners over the number of missionaries being supported and sent to the South (probably because of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The U.S. government is fully aware that mass killings and hate crimes are distant relatives and close cousins to domestic terrorism, so in lieu of sponsoring a bill to reclassify the definition of domestic terrorism, lawmakers like Texas Senator John Cornyn and North Carolina Representative Richard Hudson sponsor bills such as the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act (H. R. 38) which will allow individuals with a license to conceal carry in one state permission to conceal carry in every state, regardless of State s gun laws The U.S. continues to implement effective initiatives and provide adequate resources for the war on international terrorism; whereas the threat magnitude of international terrorism is miniscule in comparison to the number of mass shootings and hate crimes which take place in this country on a daily basis. Acts of terrorism plants fear and terror into the hearts and minds of individuals but when mass shootings occur in the U.S., they get classified as murder or hate crimes. This research will show that mass shootings and hate crimes inflict the same type of terror in the hearts and minds of individuals throughout communities within the U.S. as terrorist attacks have inflicted on communities. He was the first president under the Constitution, not the first president of the United States. From the very beginning, he came into a job full of problems and a mile long to do list. He had to set up the Judiciary Branch, deal with uprisings and conflicts between the natives and the western settlers, and try to keep together a nation that was falling apart. He created a group of advisors (the cabinet) to help him with certain issues. He had a few things on his mind at the time such as: stay out of a war, build up revenue to pay off Revolutionary War debt, and try to make peace with England. Washington was a natural ... It had jurisdiction over all civil actions between states, or between a state and the United States. Also in the act it created thirteen Judicial Districts. Within these Judicial Districts were circuit courts and district courts. After finishing the Judicial Branch, Washington finally got time to create the Executive Branch. The first offices created were the Secretary of the State, (headed by Thomas Jefferson) the Secretary of the Treasury, (headed by Alexander Hamilton) the Secretary of War, (headed by Henry Knox) the Postmaster General, (headed by Samuel Osgood) and the Attorney General (headed by Edmund Randolph). These offices became the backbone for the Presidential Cabinet. On July 27, 1789, Washington signed a bill into law reauthorizing an Executive Department of Foreign Affairs headed by a Secretary of Foreign Affairs. Washington was the major player to the creation of the United States Government under the constitution. He did more in his first months in office than any other president so far. • 41. A Experiment Of Mendelian Genetics Brassica Rapa Experiment of Mendelian Genetics Genetics 304 Dr. Assefa Dec 08, 2010 Introduction Gregor Johann Mendel, the father of genetics, was born in 1822. He was a priest and scientist who became famous for his work and studies on the inheritance patterns using pea plants. Gregor Mendel used pea plants known as Pisumsativum in his research where he developed two fundamental laws of genetics known today as the Law of segregation , and the Law of independent assortment (Hartl, 1992). The Law of segregation states that when an individual produces a gamete, the copies of a given gene separate in which each gamete receives only one copy of that gene. The phenotypic ratio in the F2 generation according to the Law of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most important Brassica rapa features is that many generations can be grown in a short period of time for experimental analysis and comparison(Tsunoda, 1980).Brassica rapaplants are involved in many research works recently in which they are crossed with other crops to modify their genetic fitness(Tompkins, 1990). The Chi Square ( ) test was used in this experiment to determine whether the statistical data supports or rejects the hypothesis. Materials and Methods The experiment was successfully accomplished in classroom where the Brassica Rapa were grown under suitable conditions. The experiment began by developing a watering system to the plants using the idea of capillary action. The watering system was made up of a plastic reservoir filled with a certain amount of water and a water mat placed on the top of the plastic reservoir. This design was helpful in making sure that the plants are receiving water constantly. Also, one piece of copper sulfate was addedinto the reservoir to avoid any algal growth. Two Styrofoam quads with four cells each were used for planting the seeds of Brassica Rapa. The cells were numbered from one to eight and a wick was placed in each cell in a way that allowed water access from the water mat through the capillary action. Each cell was then half way filled with soil and two fertilizers were placed in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
