John B. Watson s Little Albert Experiment
Little Albert The Little Albert experiment is seen as very unethical now, but in 1920 helped out psychologist. It was
run by John B. Watson and one of his students, Rosalie Rayner. At the John Hopkins University, Watson and
Rayner s goal was to condition certain phobias into a perfectly normal child. Watson was testing Pavlov s theory on
humans, not dogs. They chose a nine month old baby who they called Albert, or Little Albert. Watson tested Albert
with a white rat, a white rabbit, a monkey, a variety of mask, and burning newspaper. This was the neutral stimulus
because he showed no fear when presented with these objects. Then he was placed on a mattress with a rat. When
he would touch the rat Watson would hit a piece of steel with a hammer. This was the unconditional stimulus.
Albert would roll over and cry, now in fear of the rat. He would later be placed on the mattress with a rat again, and
would try to crawl away as fast as possible. The rat was considered a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He began to fear all furry objects. Any sight of a furry object, such as Rayner s fur coat, immediately caused Albert
to cry. It is said that Albert s mother was a wet nurse where Watson was testing him so when Albert was a little over
one year old he and his mother moved. Watson and Rayner were unable to test their hypothesis on desensitizing
little Albert. Still to this day it is unclear who Albert, was. In 2009, an article was published saying that the son of
Arvilla Merritte, Douglas Merritte, was Albert. This may be true, but Douglas suffered from hydrocephalus since
birth, and died at six years old. Documents from Watson s experiment say Albert was healthy. Then in 2014, two
researchers claimed that William Barger was little Albert. Barger passed away in 2007, but his niece whom he was
very close to said that when he was alive he genuinely disliked dogs. Since Watson and Rayner poorly documented
their experiment we may never know who Little Albert

Saying Farewell To A Faithful Pal
Any glimpse into the life of an animal quickens our own and makes it so much the larger and better in every way.
This shows that when people own pets they have a better experience in life. This means if people own a pet that pet
can have a better life along with the human. Animals can improve Peopleś lives by giving love and companionship,
Improving Peopleś health, and improving their emotional state. In the story Saying Farewell to a Faithful Pal John
grogan once said, A person can learn a lot from a dog, even a loopy one like ours. In fact, dogs can be crazy yet
loyal. What this means is humans learn from dogs every day and we don t even know it. Marley was a chewer of

Carter V. Canada
1) Carter v. Canada is considered one of the most significant recent SCC rulings because it redefines the meaning of
life, liberty and security in Section 7 of the Charter. It expands the scope of our liberty to include autonomy and
control over our body and how we choose to proceed when given the choice to suffer intolerable pain or to commit
premature suicide (Tupman Lionel). The Supreme Court carved out a new path for people suffering from grievous
and irremediable illnesses and offered them a third choice. The choice to seek medical assistance to end life when
the burden of suffering is so intolerable that death becomes dignified and pleasant alternative.
This ruling challenges the notion of sanctity of life, the traditional view that ... Show more content on

The law was an infringement on the rights of people to exercise the right to life, liberty, and security and this is not
justified in a democratic society. Forcing terminally ill patients to endure intolerable pain and suffering is cruel and
inhumane. It has no place in our society and no one has a right to tell terminally ill people to continue to suffer. If
suffering is the only choice we provide them then we force them to end their life early through other painful means.
We also expose family members and medical professionals to criminal liability that may be tempted to help
terminally ill people end their lives. This ruling gives people the choice to either end their life if they wish to no
longer live, and also provides the option to continue living if a person wishes to continue living. It does not force
anyone to do anything against their wishes, whereas the previous law forced people to continue to suffer. It also
puts more pressure on the health care system to provide more palliative care to people who need it and this is a

Discussing Arguments Influence On Darwin s Natural Theology
Most of the scientists that influenced Darwin, especially during his studies at Cambridge University, shared a
religious perspective of Liberal Anglicanism. This perspective also influenced their political, educational, and
scientific beliefs, among them being Natural Theology. Natural Theology is attempting to use science and rational
arguments to determine the underlying plan or ordered pattern s existence in the natural world. Naturally, they
thought if something was in order there would have to be one who orders them. These scientists were called
Gentlemen of Science (P2, pg. 13).
William Whewell stressed the overall order and the mathematical laws that governed the universe instead of
stressing the similarities between organisms and machines created by humans. Actually, Whewell argued that final
causes were to be omitted from physical science. While scientists are free to ... admire the fruits of the divine plan
as evidence of the Divine Providence, this is derivative of the scientist s chief task, which is to discover and
understand as much as possible the means through which this providence is dispensed in the natural world... the
laws being called secondary causes, or natural causes. Darwin cited the arguments against final causes as a quote he

expertise that Darwin got the nickname, the man who walks with Henslow. Darwin was not properly trained in
science, but he did have more of an extensive background in life sciences (P2, pg,

Nature Between Humans And Apes Rhetorical Analysis
Dear Mrs Cavalieri I am informing you that I was quite enthralled with your article The murder of Johnny . I have
always been enticed on the nature amongst Humans and Apes. I d like to mention how I commend your passionate
verbalisation. However, since you have touched a delicate matter, it has also seemed to cause certain
misconceptions. To begin with I would like to reveal that I undeniably approve the fact that Johnny, an innocuous
chimpanzee, who was shot for no legitimized reason wasn t anything but murder. If there is no reasonably adequate
explanation, what else could it have been? A bit of a thug, according to some Do we truly know the exact

Unrestricted Progression
The Light of Unrestricted Progression The average human lifestyle has drastically improved over the past several
years. Advances in medicine and technology have directly led to an irrevocable increase in both the quality of
living, as well as the length of average lifetimes. Prior to this modern revolution of medical applications, humans
who lived during the middle ages were stricken with plagues, disease, injuries, and other difficulties with health
that greatly wreaked havoc on mortality rates. Since remaining in a state of adequate health is so fundamental to
human satisfaction and progression, individuals have historically centered the majority of their existence on

The benefits and opportunities to embrace engineering far outweigh the difficulties in the process, but despite this,
my pure love for mathematics has been the major contributor to my ambitions. From a young age, I found math
incredibly enjoyable. The order and consistency found through something as simple as the order of operations
served as a driving force to my curiosity and dedication to the subject. As the mathematical concepts intensified, I
was able to adequately keep up and enjoy the journey along the way. While signing up for my senior year classes,
the decision to take calculus was made easily. While speaking with the instructor, Yvonne Sebastian, I discovered
that her love for math was derived from similar feelings. In an interview with Sebastian, she stated, Math is a
beautiful thing. Numbers are incredibly simple, but they can be used to calculate very complex scenarios. No matter
how difficult a problem may seem, there is always a solution, an answer that can be found and understood through
the power of math (Y. Sebastian, personal communication, February 14, 2017). Interacting with a teacher who
understood to a great level of degree my similar feelings regarding math has been an incredible motivator in my
desire to pursue a career which incorporates mathematics frequently. For any individual to be happy with their
occupation, I would argue that they must experience a desire to progress

Consciousness In The German Ideology
Before one is able to consider this quote, the concept of materialism and consciousness must be dissected.
According to Marx, materialism is not only the way people s beliefs are conditioned by material activities, but also
the fact that people s ideologies are conditioned by history and the powers of production. Consciousness plays a
large role in his definition of materialism, because they are inherently connected. For example, The production of
ideas, of conceptions, of consciousness is directly interwoven with the material activity and the material
relationships of men; it is the language of actual life (Marx, 111). Marx also defines consciousness as an economic
process; in other words, economic determinism defines consciousness and even history itself. This differs greatly
from Hegel s idea that consciousness is a process called the dialectic, which includes distinguishing between thesis
and antithesis in order to come to a conclusion. Although Marx utilizes the dialectic to analyze materialism and
consciousness in The German Ideology, he goes even further than Hegel and uses this dialectic thinking to
challenge Hegel s own concepts. It is important to understand the concept that the process of thinking is actually a
reflection of the external world through consciousness, because then one can connect the idea that it is more of a
relationship than an externalized object. Marx explains this notion when he states, In the social production of their
existence, men

Homosexuality In Grey s Anatomy
Grey s Anatomy has been one of the most popular shows on network television since 2005. While most critics and
fans agree that the first three seasons were the shows best, the storylines in the later seasons have still been able to
add new and progressive ideas into the forefront of the show. The biggest change in storyline is when they
introduced their first LGBTQ identifying main character, Callie Torres. For many queer fans of the show, the
addition of Callie s character was extremely monumental. As highly regarded lesbian and bisexual blog AfterEllen
noted, it was quite unprecedented to have an LGBTQ identifying character on such a popular network television
show (Warn, A Lesbian Relationship on Grey s Anatomy ?). The lesbian and bisexual ... Show more content on

This idea has trickled through the LGBTQ community through the years and as Carrie Wofford explains in
Outweek magazine in 1991, it seems that for some members of the LGBTQ community, bisexuality does not exist
and, they say people [who call themselves bisexual] are just afraid to come out [as gay] (33). Biphobia is real
within the community even today. As seen in multiple recent studies towards bisexual discrimination, it seems that
although heterosexuals are more likely to express their biphobia, [the] discrimination from the lesbian and gay
community, was statistically significantly higher, than it was expected to be (Allen). However, that is not to say that
all people have these feelings. Support for the LGBTQ community within the entertainment industry has been
progressing slowly over time . Since the B in LGBTQ was added in the 1990s, bisexuals have faced many issues
because they fit in, both the straight world and the gay world (Exquis). As this site explains, bisexuals not only have
to deal with biphobia, but many other forms of discrimination that makes it extremely difficult for them to survive
in today s society the same goes for transgender people. Grey s took notice of this issue and ultimately became an
ally for the LGBTQ community during that 2008 2009

Maxen stomped up to him. Do not speak of your mother like that. I will not accept it.
You re right, I shouldn t. Shaking with fury, anger burning bright red on his cheeks, Rory grabbed the front of
Maxen s tunic in his fist and spoke through clenched teeth. This is your fault. My mother was a young, innocent
queen when you met. You took advantage of her. Seduced her. She did nothing wrong, you did.
Rory, stop it, Audra pleaded. I love Maxen and I always have. I loved your father, too, but there are different kinds

The Ways Dickens Creates Mystery and Suspense in The...
Describe the ways Dickens creates mystery and suspense in The
Signalman
The Signalman by Charles Dickens, also known as No1 Branchline , is part of the collection of short railway stories
that are included in
Mugby Junctions , published in 1866. These stories appear to have been written post the tragic Staplehurst, Kent
train crash, in which
Dickens was involved, but escaped unhurt. Following the accident,
Dickens suffered from what we would call today, Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder. This may have contributed to the reflective and supernatural nature of The Signalman .
The story of The Signalman is a mysterious tale about a character that stumbles upon an isolated train cutting and
there meets the signalman in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Questions are raised about the recipient s identity~ is he the signalman?
Following the first line, he looks around to face the tunnel~ looked down the line . A natural response to …below
there would be to glance upwards. Again Dickens constitutes the inexplicable, building up the tension and suspense.
The actions of the signalman are nondescript, his body language is unusual, and provokes the narrator to heed that
there was something remarkable in his manner . His figure is described as foreshortened and shadowed which
pronounces as sinister and uncanny. Whilst the narrator looks down on the steep cutting he is steeped in the glow of
an angry sunset , giving the influence that he is unable to see things clearly? The angry sunset is an example of
personification that
Dickens relates. However, it also evokes dispute about the narrator s state of mind. In a sunset he sees anger~ is this
normal? He is indeed of a petulant nature.
Almost immediately the landscape evolves into jeopardy as a vague vibration arouses and quickly erupts into a
violent pulsation and an oncoming rush . These effective adjectives that Dickens uses assist the tension of the
narrative. He also sustains mystery by withholding vital information involving the sensations and what is causing
them. An aspect of uncertainty arises. A significant lexical set of speed is easily detected, for example, rapid , rush ,
skimming that convey peril and a feeling

Comparison Of Chicago, New York City And Detroit
Chicago, New York City, and Detroit
Today, Detroit, New York City and Chicago have many similarities They re highly populated cities with high crime
rates, many homeless people, noisy streets and terrible traffic. In contrast, they attract many tourists with their tall
skyscrapers, and their famous attractions. As well as similarities, there s also, many differences. Today, Chicago and
New York City are known for having many job opportunities and luring people in with promising careers. Whereas
in Detroit, it s known to be quite hard to find employment. These cities have gone on a long journey to get to where
they re at today. I ll be discussing Detroit s history from around 1880 to 1910 and comparing it to the way Chicago
and New York City was in the book, Sister Carrie written by Theodore Dreiser.
From 1880 to 1910 Detroit changed dramatically. The city was under development and was on its way to becoming
a successful, and higher populated, city. According to Detroit Historical Society, in 1880 Detroit s population
consisted of over 100,000 citizens. At this time, Detroit also had a diverse community of many different
nationalities and it was known as an immigrant city.
Detroit Historical Society also states that by 1890, Detroit s population nearly doubled reaching over 200,000.
Detroit, at this time, made its ranking in the 15th largest populated city in the nation. Many people of different
backgrounds from around the world came to settle here. By 1901,

Leonardo Da Vinci And The World Of Engineering
Engineering Drawings Military vehicles and weapons, flying objects, like planes and drones, robots, the study and
understanding of kinesiology, and our knowledge of how water flows... This may seem like a random list of things
that have no significance to each other at all, but they all in fact have something in common. The common thread
that links these things is Leonardo Da Vinci. Leonardo has impacted the world of engineering in so many different
ways, it is almost impossible to count them all. He is considered to be the father of numerous innovations and
designs and some of his original works are still being referenced today. This essay will discuss Leonardo and how
his inventions were not only masterpieces in his time, but also how they provided a foundation for future engineers
to build from. It all started in the little town of Vinci, just twenty two miles outside of Florence, Italy (DaVinci
Tech). Leonardo da Vinci was born on April fifteenth, 1452, to a family that was not very wealthy; so he could not
afford any form of education (Leonardo da Vinci). Despite this, Leonardo s designs were still way beyond his time.
Leonardo lived in Vinci for some time, but eventually moved to Milan, a military based city at the time, where he
drew some of his first designs. Milan s environment stimulated his military inventions. Today, military vehicles and
items are very commonly seen around the world, and a lot of them originated from Da Vinci s designs. For
example, Leonardo s

Extremely low and high temperatures can slow down the development of societies and civilizations greatly. If you
are living in a place with temperatures similar to the ones of The Arctic, you will obviously have a lot of harvesting
problems because of the cold and all the snow covering the ground. Also, problems with getting around and
working hard because it is too cold to leave your home and go out are very probable. Going out to work in
conditions like these, can leave people dead or very sick with things like hypothermia. On the other hand, extreme
heats, like in places close to the equator, also slow development for very similar reasons. People struggle to leave
their houses because of extreme heat dangers like getting deep burns or even things like skin cancer from the sun s
UV rays, and may also have harvesting problems because of how dry it is. Land forms and geography can also have
an impact on the development of societies and civilizations. If you live in an area with a lot of bodies of water, you
will be granted with things like fertile soil, easy transportation, abundant food and water supply, more animals to
hunt (fishing) and much better hygiene than for example a place in the middle of the desert. Your geography is very
important to a stable society

The Reaction To The Emancipation Proclamation
Reaction to the Proclamation
The Proclamation had little impact on slavery. The Proclamation only applied to places where it was under
Confederate Control. The Proclamation was condemned in the South and debated in the North. Abolitionists
criticized Lincoln for not going far enough. The Proclamation did nothing to free people who were enslaved in the
border states. So, slaves in the Confederate states that were controlled by the Union s force were not affected.
Northerners feared that all freed people coming to the North would cause a lot of unemployment. The Northern
Africans response was way more positive. Abolitionist Frederick Douglas said:
We shout for joy that we live to record this righteous decree.
There was no immediate end to slavery.
African Americans Join the War and African Soldiers
The Emancipation Proclamation had two different immediate effects. The Proclamation inspired Southern slaves to
free themselves by escaping to the protection of Union troops. This encouraged Africans to join the war. When the
Civil War began, Africans volunteers were not allowed to join the Union army until July of 1862. In July of 1872,
Congress authorized Lincoln to accept the announcement in the Emancipation Proclamation that Africans could
now join the Union Army. In 1865 over 180,000 African Americans had been enlisted in the Union Army. More
than half of the soldiers were from the South. The Africans from the South that became soldiers fought for others

An Analysis Of Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
An Analysis of Chaucer s Miller in the Canterbury Tales Many characters in Geoffrey Chaucer s Canterbury Tales
link to the different social classes in England during the Medieval Period. The Miller is a crude character who tells
an entertaining, yet inappropriate tale on a pilgrimage to Canterbury Cathedral. In the Prologue to the Canterbury
Tales, Chaucer describes the Miller as a bold, garrulous man and shows the morally incorrectness of the Miller. The
Miller tells a vulgar but suitable story which classifies him as a man of low social status with an uncouth, shrewd
sense of humor. Narrating his tale directly after the Knight s noble and honorable tale, the Miller tells a tale
degrading romanticism and love while exhibiting adulterous relationships. The vulgarity of his tale is one example
of the Miller s low social class. During the Middle Ages, a miller was generally a middle or low class man who
owned or operated a wheat mill. The social rank of a miller could vary, as explained by Jeffery Singman and Will
McLean in Daily Life in Chaucer s England, People s positions in the hierarchy were considered to be of great
importance, but sometimes the precise gradation weren t entirely clear . . . However, it might be hard to tell whether
the local miller was a more important man than the local smith (9). Singman and Mclean are saying that one can not
categorize a miller into a specific social class, but can generalize a miller in the low to middle class in

Comparing The Starry Night And The Scream
The Starry Night and The Scream Vincent Van Gogh was born in the Netherlands on March 30, 1853. He pursued
many other things in his life before deciding to become an artist. He was brought up in a religious atmosphere,
being the son of a preacher. He was a preacher himself for a while in Borinage, a mining district in Belgium. At one
point he wanted to dedicate his life to reaching out to those in poverty. At other points in his life he worked as an art
salesman and a bookstore clerk. After being dismissed from preaching in Belgium, he remained there and began to
study art. This period, his early Dutch period, was characterized by somber tones and sharp lighting. The most
famous painting to come from this period was in 1885 and was called The Potato Eaters . In 1886, he joined his
brother Theo in Paris. He was involved in the art world as well, as a manager of Goupil s gallery. Van Gogh began
to study with Cormon and his dark somber palette began to lighten. He started using short brush strokes and was
leaning more towards the Impressionist style (Vincent Van Gogh Bio). Van Gogh had a dream of establishing an art
school and traveled south to Arles to pursue that dream. He wanted his friends to join him, and Gauguin was the
only one that did. His relationship with Gaugin did not end well though. It s not certain exactly what happened, but
there were disputes between the two of them and it ended with a portion of Van Gogh s earlobe being cut off.

The Importance Of Environmental Conservation In Colorado
Environmental conservation, particularly waste diversion, is an important social problem for the reason that it not
only affects people but the planet as a whole. The shocking reality is that the United States produces the greatest
amount of waste in the world, while it only makes up five percent of the overall world population as stated in
Recycle Across America (as cited by Worldwatch Institute). When people think of Colorado, they probably tend to
think of its capital Denver, however, when I think of Colorado, I think of the city Boulder due to its zero waste
initiatives. Boulder is leading the initiative to recycle and reduce waste while Denver is the big city and capital of
Colorado and it only has a diversion rate of nearly twenty percent ( We Are Zero Waste, 2017). This means that less
than twenty percent of used products are composted or recycled while the other eighty plus percent goes to landfill.
Boulder is leading the initiative with a diversion rate of thirty nine percent as of 2015 and has a company called Eco
Cycle and other companies similar which handle recycling and volunteer at events throughout Colorado to make
events a green event ( We Are Zero Waste, 2017). Based on the Factfinder Census, it is important to note that there
are a few key reasons as to why Denver has a lower waste diversion rate than Boulder. To elaborate, Denver has an
estimated 2016 population of 693,060 while Boulder has only an estimated population of 322,226 (United States

5 Force Analyses
Internal Rivalry
There is intense rivalry among grocery stores In Australia. As more stores open up regularly, rivalry determinants
has taken in the form of price competition which is undoubtedly the primary form of competition in this industry
where stores are undercutting each other with perks like promotions, points collecting system and the most
commonly seen is by giving generous discounts to consumers with membership or reward cards.
Stores are also competing in other forms in order to secure loyal customers. Some of the forms are product range
and quality by which stores are offering privately labeled products that are primarily used in the commodity lines at
lower prices.(Australian Government, Department of Agriculture) This has caused a significant shift in the industry,
thus allowing players like ALDI who started with a private labeled product early on to gain and improve its market
share. Another major form is convenience where several non price factors such as opening hours, strategic
locations, parking area, distribution options (delivery or in store pickup) and online shopping comes into play.
(Australian Government, Department of Agriculture)
An example is when a consumer decides to visit a store; some of the factors a consumer might be looking for are
the store s opening hours, car park and most importantly its location. Taking Melbourne s CBD area into
consideration, we can notice that there are

Red squirrels are an important part of the ecosystem in which the oak lives. They are important because they eat off

are also not harmed because the acorns that they eat are the fruit of the tree. The trees also gave them a place to live.

far off, fast cars, gorgeous women, ridiculously extravagant villains, and of course, dozens of explosions pepper
every novel and movie. Many believe that the success of the Bond franchise relies on the heavy use of the
numerous outlandish villains and childish antics, yet the women in the novels play crucial roles in establishing love
and suspense. These women are put into unfortunate situations that in order to survive require a hero, a savior, and
Ian Fleming uses Bond to rescue these women. The Bond Girls act as an outlet, a way for Fleming to recreate the
love of his life Muriel Wright, or Moo who was tragically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While rehabilitating, Lynd visits Bond every day, and Bond begins to think of a future with her, marriage, even
leaving the service. Once released from the hospital, the two travel and live together. It seems they are going to live
a happy life, but upon discovering that they re being tracked by a SMERSH agent, Lynd breaks down, she tragically
kills herself leaving a note confessing that she had been a double agent for the Russians. They had kidnapped her
lover and threatened to kill him unless she helped sabotage Bonds mission. Lynd was forced to take her own life,
dying tragically early. Most of the Bond novels fall into a simple mold: villain that threatens world security with a
gorgeous mistress and fast cars. The Spy Who Loved Me deviates from this pattern and is written from Vivienne
Michel s point of view. Fleming would have just turned fifty and his marriage was quickly deteriorating. Both
members of the marriage were pursuing affairs and Flemings health was declining. His wife Ann was associated
with many literary experts including Evelyn Waugh who scoffed at Flemings infantile writing. Fleming was
depressed with the prospect of death, indiscretion, and the literary mockery. At one point he (Fleming) even
considered killing Bond. But instead of killing Bond, Fleming decided to respond to his critics by writing from the
point of view of

5. What is crimp? How does it affect the properties of a textile? Crimp is the bends and twists along the length of a
fiber.
It increases resiliency, bulk, warmth, elongation, absorbency, and skin comfort. Makes the hand harsher and luster
is reduced as crimp increase. Allows the fiber to stand off the skin so fabric will not cling to the wearer s skin. Also
helps make the fiber able to withstand being bent back on itself many times without breaking.
6. How does fiber absorbency affect the properties of a textile? Absorbency affects: skin comfort, static build up,
dimensional stability in water, stain removal, water repellency, and wrinkle recovery.
7. What is pilling? Why is it more apparent on some fibers than on others? Pilling is the formation of groups of
short or broken fibers on the surface of a fabric that are tangled together into tiny balls (pills).
More apparent on hydrophobic fibers because their fibers have greater electrical static attraction for each other ran

Advo Week 1 Assignment
Based on the payback approach, Advo should still implement Project 2 because it has a shorter payback period than
Project 1. Thus, Project 2 will have recouped more than the initial investment in the second year. Furthermore,
Project 1 still falls short of investment recovery by $109,000 ($400,000 $291,000). Thus, Project 1 will not begin to
recoup the cost of the initial investment until year three. Therefore, Project 2 will begin to generate a return on
investment much sooner than Project 1 and money received sooner has more value (Edmonds et al., 2011).
The time value of money concept identifies that the present value of a dollar obtained in the future is less than a
dollar today. Therefore, the expression time value of money denotes the change in the value of a dollar as time

establish the amount of time that it will take to begin receiving a return. Furthermore, decision makers can better
evaluate which projects have a higher chance of providing them with a return sooner since present value discounts
future cash flows to their equivalent value today. Additionally, it aids them in establishing which projects should be

Dracula And The New Woman
Dracula and the New Woman
In the Victorian era, women were viewed as subordinate to men. They often had one job: reproduction. They would
become housewives and cater to their husband and children s needs. As the era progressed, so did the role of
women. The once shy women were now changing into courageous and outspoken members of society. These
women were open about their sexuality and embraced their intelligence. This new found independence was a
turning moment in history and was given the name the New Woman. The ever changing role of women into a new
found independence was prominent in literature as well. One of the most famous literatures is Dracula by Bram
Stoker. It is evident that Bram Stoker wrote about the New Woman throughout his novel. It is questionable whether
Bram Stoker wanted to embrace the New Woman in society or wanted to tear it down. In fact, neither is the case.
Bram Stoker created the ideal women in Dracula in order to embrace the woman character without having to be
open about their sexual identity. The portrayal of the women characters in the novel gives evidence on why Dracula
created the ideal woman instead of highlighting the New Woman role. Stoker depicts the new woman in the
beginning of the novel by illustrating several examples of young, beautiful women. The first example is the three
attractive vampires encountered by Jonathan. These vampires represented young striking woman that were open
about their sexual needs. They are aristocratic,

Essay on Privacy Concerns With Electronic Medical Records
Prior to the Information Age, medical records were all stored in folders in secure filing cabinets at doctor s offices,
hospitals, or health departments. The information within the folders was confidential, and shared solely amongst the
patient and physician. Today these files are fragmented across multiple treatment sites due to the branching out of
specialty centers such as urgent care centers, magnetic resonance imaging, outpatient surgical centers, and other
diagnostic centers. Today s ability to store medical records electronically has made it possible to easily send these
files from one location to another. However, the same technology which can unify the fragmented pieces of a
patient s medical record has the ability to also create ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although there is a significant difference between an EMR and EHR, both are subject to the same type of security
breach, and therefore for clarification purposes are both refereed to as EMRs in the context of this paper. Security
breaches of EMRs vary from someone without consent viewing the patient s information, to a hacker using the
information to steal one s identity. According to Privacy Rights Clearing House, more than 260 million data
breaches have occurred in the United States, including those of health related records. Approximately 12 percent of
data breaches involve medical organizations (Gellman, 2012). According to Redspin, a provider of Health
Insurance Portability and Accountability Act risk analysis and IT security assessment services, more than 6 million
individual s health records were compromised during a period from August 2009 and December 2010 (Author
Unknown, 2010). A provision of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH)
Act requires all breaches affecting 500 or more people to be reported to the Department of Health and Human
Services. This reporting is to be accomplished within 60 days of discovery. The Redspin report covering the period
above involved 225 breaches of protected health information. The amount of people with access to an individual s
health record creates concern with confidentiality. According to the Los Angeles

Advantages of Going to a Year-Round School

boxer22@hotmail.com ASSIGNMENT: A5 Title: Advantages of Going to a Year Round School All primary and
secondary schools in the United States need to change from the traditional schooling system to the newer
educational system of a year round schooling system. A traditional school system is one where students go to school
for nine months out of the year and receive a three month summer vacation, whereas students in a year round
school system follow a cycle of forty five days in classes followed by a fifteen day period of rest, for the entire
calendar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While some might enjoy a three month long summer break, it is in the best interest of the students grades to attend
school all year long since this leads to a more motivated classroom atmosphere. Also, the students are more likely
to remember material covered in class better if they are only gone six weeks instead of twelve weeks for the
summer. As a result of retaining the material, students will benefit from better test scores. According to the
NAYRE, of thirteen studies of year round education performance since 1985...ten favored the year round system
over traditional schools and of those, seven found statistically significant learning gains by the year round students
(Harp 2). The world we live in is becoming more of a global market, and American students need to be able to
compete in the job market someday with people from all over. Their test scores and skills need to be cutting edge in
order to be an active participant in this global market. One disadvantage of attending a year round school is that it
complicates family life. This is due to the fact that in a family where one child is at a year round school and his or
her sibling is at a traditional school, they may have separate days off of school. Then the parents may have to get
one kid ready for school and prepare activities for the other child, who is at home. This also makes it very difficult
to plan family vacations.

Advantages Of Js Cogens
Many scholars argue that if human rights should be considered as jus cogens but before we delve into that problem
let us define first jus cogens and human rights. Most scholars define jus cogens as a peremptory norm which the
article 53 of the Vienna Convention law us treaties define as a norm accepted and recognized by the international
community of States as a whole as a norm from which no derogation is permitted and which can be modified only
by a subsequent norm of general international law having the same character 1. In the other hands human rights is
defined by the United Nation Commission on human rights as Human rights are rights inherent to all human beings,

These rights are all interrelated, interdependent and indivisible. Universal human rights are often expressed and

refrain from certain acts, in order to promote and protect human rights and fundamental freedoms of individuals or
groups 2.Now as to the question if if should human rights be considered a jus cogens, I will qualify my arguments
mainly to the characteristics of a jus cogens identified by Rafael Nieto Navia which is first the norm must be a
norm of general international law. Second is the norm must be accepted and recognized by the international
community of States as a whole and Lastly, the norm must be one from which no derogation is permitted and which

Who Is Crazy In A Midsummer Night s Dream
In William Shakespeare s play, A Midsummer Night s Dream there is Makeups,Breakups and Love. The characters
go through a roller coaster of emotions throughout the play. Many emotions of the characters are made confusing
by the king of fairies Oberon and his servant Puck/Robin. The drama throughout the play creates many problems
for the characters. One of those characters is Helena, she shows that love is crazy when she talks to Hermia, gives
Demetrius permission to beat her and when she talks to Demetrius in the woods. In the beginning of the play
Helena is introduced with being in love with Demetrius. The audience knows from the text that Demetrius is in love
with Hermia. While talking with Hermia, Helena says, The more I love, the more he hateth me (Shakespeare 199).

Lysander and Demetrius both happen to see Helena first when they wake up, so they both fall in love with her.
Helena thinks they are playing a joke on her and doesn t believe what they are saying. Hermia comes into the mix
and Helena thinks she is joking with her too. While talking to Hermia, Helena says, Wherefore speaks he this, To
her he hates? (Shakespeare 230 231). In this line Helena is saying, Why would he speak to me like this if he hates
me? She is referring to when Demetrius was calling her beautiful and a goddess. This shows how love is crazy,
because it started with Demetrius hating her to now being in love with

The Fascists’ Control of Italy and their Social and...
The Fascists social and economic policies up to 1939 significantly aided their control over Italy yet may not be
cited as the sole cause. The Fascist party s social and economic policies along with other factors attributed to the
overall control of Italy. Through such policies it was a certainty that the Fascist party would hold complete power
over the population of Italy in each aspect of an individual s life whether it was their leisure time through the
Dopolavoro or at work under the corporate state system which was formally introduced in 1934. This complete
domination of the Italian peoples lives could be argued to have been the instrumental factor behind the Fascists

These factors were all highly important to the Fascists control of Italy up to 1939 but it could be argued some of
these were of more value to the Fascist domination than others. The social policies implemented by the Fascists
secured their control of the lives of every person, young or old, in Italy in particular through education and the
Dopolavoro. Education was heavily manipulated to only teach the youth a positive view of the Fascists. It became
necessary for all teachers and lecturers to swear loyalty to Mussolini. Textbooks were heavily censored to exclude
any part of history which showed the Italians being defeated or in a negative way, in 1926, 101 textbooks were
banned and a single textbook became the only source teachers were allowed to use in 1936, and Mussolini was
always portrayed as a brave fatherly figure. This meant that Italian children in education were only being exposed
to a positive image of the Italy and the Fascist government. This was an important element in indoctrinating the
next generation and a way of gaining support from them. Education itself was not favoured by Mussolini who
believed that bravery was of much more significance rather than well educated people. This is illustrated through
the 1930 census report which revealed that 20% of adults were illiterate yet this figure could have, in fact, been
double this figure in the South although literacy rates were not mentioned

  • 2. John B. Watson s Little Albert Experiment Little Albert The Little Albert experiment is seen as very unethical now, but in 1920 helped out psychologist. It was run by John B. Watson and one of his students, Rosalie Rayner. At the John Hopkins University, Watson and Rayner s goal was to condition certain phobias into a perfectly normal child. Watson was testing Pavlov s theory on humans, not dogs. They chose a nine month old baby who they called Albert, or Little Albert. Watson tested Albert with a white rat, a white rabbit, a monkey, a variety of mask, and burning newspaper. This was the neutral stimulus because he showed no fear when presented with these objects. Then he was placed on a mattress with a rat. When he would touch the rat Watson would hit a piece of steel with a hammer. This was the unconditional stimulus. Albert would roll over and cry, now in fear of the rat. He would later be placed on the mattress with a rat again, and would try to crawl away as fast as possible. The rat was considered a ... It is said that Albert s mother was a wet nurse where Watson was testing him so when Albert was a little over one year old he and his mother moved. Watson and Rayner were unable to test their hypothesis on desensitizing little Albert. Still to this day it is unclear who Albert, was. In 2009, an article was published saying that the son of Arvilla Merritte, Douglas Merritte, was Albert. This may be true, but Douglas suffered from hydrocephalus since birth, and died at six years old. Documents from Watson s experiment say Albert was healthy. Then in 2014, two researchers claimed that William Barger was little Albert. Barger passed away in 2007, but his niece whom he was very close to said that when he was alive he genuinely disliked dogs. Since Watson and Rayner poorly documented their experiment we may never know who Little Albert ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Animals can improve Peopleś lives by giving love and companionship, Improving Peopleś health, and improving their emotional state. In the story Saying Farewell to a Faithful Pal John grogan once said, A person can learn a lot from a dog, even a loopy one like ours. In fact, dogs can be crazy yet loyal. • 4. Carter V. Canada 1) Carter v. Canada is considered one of the most significant recent SCC rulings because it redefines the meaning of life, liberty and security in Section 7 of the Charter. It expands the scope of our liberty to include autonomy and control over our body and how we choose to proceed when given the choice to suffer intolerable pain or to commit premature suicide (Tupman Lionel). The Supreme Court carved out a new path for people suffering from grievous and irremediable illnesses and offered them a third choice. The choice to seek medical assistance to end life when the burden of suffering is so intolerable that death becomes dignified and pleasant alternative. This ruling challenges the notion of sanctity of life, the traditional view that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The law was an infringement on the rights of people to exercise the right to life, liberty, and security and this is not justified in a democratic society. Forcing terminally ill patients to endure intolerable pain and suffering is cruel and inhumane. It has no place in our society and no one has a right to tell terminally ill people to continue to suffer. If suffering is the only choice we provide them then we force them to end their life early through other painful means. We also expose family members and medical professionals to criminal liability that may be tempted to help terminally ill people end their lives. This ruling gives people the choice to either end their life if they wish to no longer live, and also provides the option to continue living if a person wishes to continue living. It does not force anyone to do anything against their wishes, whereas the previous law forced people to continue to suffer. It also puts more pressure on the health care system to provide more palliative care to people who need it and this is a positive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Discussing Arguments Influence On Darwin s Natural Theology Most of the scientists that influenced Darwin, especially during his studies at Cambridge University, shared a religious perspective of Liberal Anglicanism. This perspective also influenced their political, educational, and scientific beliefs, among them being Natural Theology. Natural Theology is attempting to use science and rational arguments to determine the underlying plan or ordered pattern s existence in the natural world. Naturally, they thought if something was in order there would have to be one who orders them. These scientists were called Gentlemen of Science (P2, pg. 13). William Whewell stressed the overall order and the mathematical laws that governed the universe instead of stressing the similarities between organisms and machines created by humans. Actually, Whewell argued that final causes were to be omitted from physical science. While scientists are free to ... admire the fruits of the divine plan as evidence of the Divine Providence, this is derivative of the scientist s chief task, which is to discover and understand as much as possible the means through which this providence is dispensed in the natural world... the laws being called secondary causes, or natural causes. I have always been enticed on the nature amongst Humans and Apes. I d like to mention how I commend your passionate verbalisation. However, since you have touched a delicate matter, it has also seemed to cause certain misconceptions. To begin with I would like to reveal that I undeniably approve the fact that Johnny, an innocuous chimpanzee, who was shot for no legitimized reason wasn t anything but murder. If there is no reasonably adequate explanation, what else could it have been? A bit of a thug, according to some Do we truly know the exact interpretation for this? The benefits and opportunities to embrace engineering far outweigh the difficulties in the process, but despite this, my pure love for mathematics has been the major contributor to my ambitions. The order and consistency found through something as simple as the order of operations served as a driving force to my curiosity and dedication to the subject. As the mathematical concepts intensified, I was able to adequately keep up and enjoy the journey along the way. While signing up for my senior year classes, the decision to take calculus was made easily. While speaking with the instructor, Yvonne Sebastian, I discovered that her love for math was derived from similar feelings. In an interview with Sebastian, she stated, Math is a beautiful thing. • 8. Consciousness In The German Ideology Before one is able to consider this quote, the concept of materialism and consciousness must be dissected. According to Marx, materialism is not only the way people s beliefs are conditioned by material activities, but also the fact that people s ideologies are conditioned by history and the powers of production. Consciousness plays a large role in his definition of materialism, because they are inherently connected. For example, The production of ideas, of conceptions, of consciousness is directly interwoven with the material activity and the material relationships of men; it is the language of actual life (Marx, 111). Marx also defines consciousness as an economic process; in other words, economic determinism defines consciousness and even history itself. This differs greatly from Hegel s idea that consciousness is a process called the dialectic, which includes distinguishing between thesis and antithesis in order to come to a conclusion. Although Marx utilizes the dialectic to analyze materialism and consciousness in The German Ideology, he goes even further than Hegel and uses this dialectic thinking to challenge Hegel s own concepts. It is important to understand the concept that the process of thinking is actually a reflection of the external world through consciousness, because then one can connect the idea that it is more of a relationship than an externalized object. Marx explains this notion when he states, In the social production of their existence, men ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While most critics and fans agree that the first three seasons were the shows best, the storylines in the later seasons have still been able to add new and progressive ideas into the forefront of the show. The biggest change in storyline is when they introduced their first LGBTQ identifying main character, Callie Torres. For many queer fans of the show, the addition of Callie s character was extremely monumental. This idea has trickled through the LGBTQ community through the years and as Carrie Wofford explains in Outweek magazine in 1991, it seems that for some members of the LGBTQ community, bisexuality does not exist and, they say people [who call themselves bisexual] are just afraid to come out [as gay] (33). Biphobia is real within the community even today. As seen in multiple recent studies towards bisexual discrimination, it seems that although heterosexuals are more likely to express their biphobia, [the] discrimination from the lesbian and gay community, was statistically significantly higher, than it was expected to be (Allen). However, that is not to say that all people have these feelings. Support for the LGBTQ community within the entertainment industry has been progressing slowly over time . Since the B in LGBTQ was added in the 1990s, bisexuals have faced many issues because they fit in, both the straight world and the gay world (Exquis). Describe the ways Dickens creates mystery and suspense in The Signalman The Signalman by Charles Dickens, also known as No1 Branchline , is part of the collection of short railway stories that are included in Mugby Junctions , published in 1866. These stories appear to have been written post the tragic Staplehurst, Kent train crash, in which Dickens was involved, but escaped unhurt. Following the accident, Dickens suffered from what we would call today, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This may have contributed to the reflective and supernatural nature of The Signalman . The actions of the signalman are nondescript, his body language is unusual, and provokes the narrator to heed that there was something remarkable in his manner . His figure is described as foreshortened and shadowed which pronounces as sinister and uncanny. Whilst the narrator looks down on the steep cutting he is steeped in the glow of an angry sunset , giving the influence that he is unable to see things clearly? The angry sunset is an example of personification that Dickens relates. However, it also evokes dispute about the narrator s state of mind. In a sunset he sees anger~ is this normal? He is indeed of a petulant nature. Almost immediately the landscape evolves into jeopardy as a vague vibration arouses and quickly erupts into a violent pulsation and an oncoming rush . These effective adjectives that Dickens uses assist the tension of the narrative. He also sustains mystery by withholding vital information involving the sensations and what is causing them. Comparison Of Chicago, New York City And Detroit Chicago, New York City, and Detroit Today, Detroit, New York City and Chicago have many similarities They re highly populated cities with high crime rates, many homeless people, noisy streets and terrible traffic. In contrast, they attract many tourists with their tall skyscrapers, and their famous attractions. As well as similarities, there s also, many differences. Today, Chicago and New York City are known for having many job opportunities and luring people in with promising careers. Whereas in Detroit, it s known to be quite hard to find employment. These cities have gone on a long journey to get to where they re at today. I ll be discussing Detroit s history from around 1880 to 1910 and comparing it to the way Chicago and New York City was in the book, Sister Carrie written by Theodore Dreiser. From 1880 to 1910 Detroit changed dramatically. The city was under development and was on its way to becoming a successful, and higher populated, city. According to Detroit Historical Society, in 1880 Detroit s population consisted of over 100,000 citizens. At this time, Detroit also had a diverse community of many different nationalities and it was known as an immigrant city. Detroit Historical Society also states that by 1890, Detroit s population nearly doubled reaching over 200,000. Leonardo Da Vinci And The World Of Engineering Engineering Drawings Military vehicles and weapons, flying objects, like planes and drones, robots, the study and understanding of kinesiology, and our knowledge of how water flows... This may seem like a random list of things that have no significance to each other at all, but they all in fact have something in common. The common thread that links these things is Leonardo Da Vinci. Leonardo has impacted the world of engineering in so many different ways, it is almost impossible to count them all. He is considered to be the father of numerous innovations and designs and some of his original works are still being referenced today. This essay will discuss Leonardo and how his inventions were not only masterpieces in his time, but also how they provided a foundation for future engineers to build from. It all started in the little town of Vinci, just twenty two miles outside of Florence, Italy (DaVinci Tech). Leonardo da Vinci was born on April fifteenth, 1452, to a family that was not very wealthy; so he could not afford any form of education (Leonardo da Vinci). Despite this, Leonardo s designs were still way beyond his time. Leonardo lived in Vinci for some time, but eventually moved to Milan, a military based city at the time, where he drew some of his first designs. Milan s environment stimulated his military inventions. Today, military vehicles and items are very commonly seen around the world, and a lot of them originated from Da Vinci s designs. Extremely low and high temperatures can slow down the development of societies and civilizations greatly. If you are living in a place with temperatures similar to the ones of The Arctic, you will obviously have a lot of harvesting problems because of the cold and all the snow covering the ground. Also, problems with getting around and working hard because it is too cold to leave your home and go out are very probable. Going out to work in conditions like these, can leave people dead or very sick with things like hypothermia. On the other hand, extreme heats, like in places close to the equator, also slow development for very similar reasons. People struggle to leave their houses because of extreme heat dangers like getting deep burns or even things like skin cancer from the sun s UV rays, and may also have harvesting problems because of how dry it is. Land forms and geography can also have an impact on the development of societies and civilizations. If you live in an area with a lot of bodies of water, you will be granted with things like fertile soil, easy transportation, abundant food and water supply, more animals to hunt (fishing) and much better hygiene than for example a place in the middle of the desert. • 15. The Reaction To The Emancipation Proclamation Reaction to the Proclamation The Proclamation had little impact on slavery. The Proclamation only applied to places where it was under Confederate Control. The Proclamation was condemned in the South and debated in the North. Abolitionists criticized Lincoln for not going far enough. The Proclamation did nothing to free people who were enslaved in the border states. So, slaves in the Confederate states that were controlled by the Union s force were not affected. Northerners feared that all freed people coming to the North would cause a lot of unemployment. The Northern Africans response was way more positive. Abolitionist Frederick Douglas said: We shout for joy that we live to record this righteous decree. There was no immediate end to slavery. African Americans Join the War and African Soldiers The Emancipation Proclamation had two different immediate effects. The Proclamation inspired Southern slaves to free themselves by escaping to the protection of Union troops. This encouraged Africans to join the war. When the Civil War began, Africans volunteers were not allowed to join the Union army until July of 1862. In July of 1872, Congress authorized Lincoln to accept the announcement in the Emancipation Proclamation that Africans could now join the Union Army. In 1865 over 180,000 African Americans had been enlisted in the Union Army. More than half of the soldiers were from the South. • 16. An Analysis Of Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales An Analysis of Chaucer s Miller in the Canterbury Tales Many characters in Geoffrey Chaucer s Canterbury Tales link to the different social classes in England during the Medieval Period. The Miller is a crude character who tells an entertaining, yet inappropriate tale on a pilgrimage to Canterbury Cathedral. In the Prologue to the Canterbury Tales, Chaucer describes the Miller as a bold, garrulous man and shows the morally incorrectness of the Miller. The Miller tells a vulgar but suitable story which classifies him as a man of low social status with an uncouth, shrewd sense of humor. Narrating his tale directly after the Knight s noble and honorable tale, the Miller tells a tale degrading romanticism and love while exhibiting adulterous relationships. The vulgarity of his tale is one example of the Miller s low social class. During the Middle Ages, a miller was generally a middle or low class man who owned or operated a wheat mill. The social rank of a miller could vary, as explained by Jeffery Singman and Will McLean in Daily Life in Chaucer s England, People s positions in the hierarchy were considered to be of great importance, but sometimes the precise gradation weren t entirely clear . . . However, it might be hard to tell whether the local miller was a more important man than the local smith (9). • 17. Comparing The Starry Night And The Scream The Starry Night and The Scream Vincent Van Gogh was born in the Netherlands on March 30, 1853. He pursued many other things in his life before deciding to become an artist. He was brought up in a religious atmosphere, being the son of a preacher. He was a preacher himself for a while in Borinage, a mining district in Belgium. At one point he wanted to dedicate his life to reaching out to those in poverty. At other points in his life he worked as an art salesman and a bookstore clerk. After being dismissed from preaching in Belgium, he remained there and began to study art. This period, his early Dutch period, was characterized by somber tones and sharp lighting. The most famous painting to come from this period was in 1885 and was called The Potato Eaters . In 1886, he joined his brother Theo in Paris. He was involved in the art world as well, as a manager of Goupil s gallery. Van Gogh began to study with Cormon and his dark somber palette began to lighten. He started using short brush strokes and was leaning more towards the Impressionist style (Vincent Van Gogh Bio). Van Gogh had a dream of establishing an art school and traveled south to Arles to pursue that dream. He wanted his friends to join him, and Gauguin was the only one that did. His relationship with Gaugin did not end well though. • 19. The Importance Of Environmental Conservation In Colorado Environmental conservation, particularly waste diversion, is an important social problem for the reason that it not only affects people but the planet as a whole. The shocking reality is that the United States produces the greatest amount of waste in the world, while it only makes up five percent of the overall world population as stated in Recycle Across America (as cited by Worldwatch Institute). When people think of Colorado, they probably tend to think of its capital Denver, however, when I think of Colorado, I think of the city Boulder due to its zero waste initiatives. Boulder is leading the initiative to recycle and reduce waste while Denver is the big city and capital of Colorado and it only has a diversion rate of nearly twenty percent ( We Are Zero Waste, 2017). This means that less than twenty percent of used products are composted or recycled while the other eighty plus percent goes to landfill. Boulder is leading the initiative with a diversion rate of thirty nine percent as of 2015 and has a company called Eco Cycle and other companies similar which handle recycling and volunteer at events throughout Colorado to make events a green event ( We Are Zero Waste, 2017). Based on the Factfinder Census, it is important to note that there are a few key reasons as to why Denver has a lower waste diversion rate than Boulder. To elaborate, Denver has an estimated 2016 population of 693,060 while Boulder has only an estimated population of 322,226 (United States ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As more stores open up regularly, rivalry determinants has taken in the form of price competition which is undoubtedly the primary form of competition in this industry where stores are undercutting each other with perks like promotions, points collecting system and the most commonly seen is by giving generous discounts to consumers with membership or reward cards. Stores are also competing in other forms in order to secure loyal customers. Some of the forms are product range and quality by which stores are offering privately labeled products that are primarily used in the commodity lines at lower prices.(Australian Government, Department of Agriculture) This has caused a significant shift in the industry, thus allowing players like ALDI who started with a private labeled product early on to gain and improve its market share. Another major form is convenience where several non price factors such as opening hours, strategic locations, parking area, distribution options (delivery or in store pickup) and online shopping comes into play. • 26. Dracula And The New Woman Dracula and the New Woman In the Victorian era, women were viewed as subordinate to men. They often had one job: reproduction. They would become housewives and cater to their husband and children s needs. As the era progressed, so did the role of women. The once shy women were now changing into courageous and outspoken members of society. These women were open about their sexuality and embraced their intelligence. This new found independence was a turning moment in history and was given the name the New Woman. The ever changing role of women into a new found independence was prominent in literature as well. One of the most famous literatures is Dracula by Bram Stoker. It is evident that Bram Stoker wrote about the New Woman throughout his novel. It is questionable whether Bram Stoker wanted to embrace the New Woman in society or wanted to tear it down. In fact, neither is the case. Bram Stoker created the ideal women in Dracula in order to embrace the woman character without having to be open about their sexual identity. The portrayal of the women characters in the novel gives evidence on why Dracula created the ideal woman instead of highlighting the New Woman role. While some might enjoy a three month long summer break, it is in the best interest of the students grades to attend school all year long since this leads to a more motivated classroom atmosphere. As a result of retaining the material, students will benefit from better test scores. According to the NAYRE, of thirteen studies of year round education performance since 1985...ten favored the year round system over traditional schools and of those, seven found statistically significant learning gains by the year round students (Harp 2). The world we live in is becoming more of a global market, and American students need to be able to compete in the job market someday with people from all over. Their test scores and skills need to be cutting edge in order to be an active participant in this global market. One disadvantage of attending a year round school is that it complicates family life. This is due to the fact that in a family where one child is at a year round school and his or her sibling is at a traditional school, they may have separate days off of school. These factors were all highly important to the Fascists control of Italy up to 1939 but it could be argued some of these were of more value to the Fascist domination than others. The social policies implemented by the Fascists secured their control of the lives of every person, young or old, in Italy in particular through education and the Dopolavoro. Education was heavily manipulated to only teach the youth a positive view of the Fascists. It became necessary for all teachers and lecturers to swear loyalty to Mussolini. Textbooks were heavily censored to exclude any part of history which showed the Italians being defeated or in a negative way, in 1926, 101 textbooks were banned and a single textbook became the only source teachers were allowed to use in 1936, and Mussolini was always portrayed as a brave fatherly figure. This meant that Italian children in education were only being exposed to a positive image of the Italy and the Fascist government. This was an important element in indoctrinating the next generation and a way of gaining support from them. Education itself was not favoured by Mussolini who believed that bravery was of much more significance rather than well educated people.
