What Are The Similarities Between Genesis And The Gilgamesh
In The Genesis and The Epic of Gilgamesh there are three main similarities. These similarities are the
flood, the food, and the snake. In Genesis God sent a flood to destroy all of mankind, just like how the
gods sent a flood to also destroy mankind in Gilgamesh. In both stories God chose someone to build
boat to restart mankind, in Genesis he chose Noah, and in Gilgamesh he chose Utnapishtim. The food
plays different role in each story. In Genesis food was what it took for them to look their immortality,
however in Gilgamesh food was needed in order to achieve immortality. The snake is what it took for
the characters to lose immortality. However, there were different outcomes of the snake either taking
food or saying you should eat the food. In Gilgamesh we were told about a great flood that struck
Shurrupak. A god called Enlil became mad at the city because it was very noisey due to its growing
population, he complained that he can t sleep at night. He told the other gods about his complaint and
they agreed they should wipe out the mortals. In an attempt to destroy mankind he creates a flood. Ea,
another god, tells a man called Utnapishtim to build a boat out of his house in a dream. Utnapishtim
does as he was told. Utnapishtim asks Ea how to make the others believe him. Ea says to tell the
others that Enilil was angry with Utnapishtim, so Utnapishtim may no longer live on land.
Utnapishtim builds a seven deck boat. When the boat was set into water he took his family, relatives,
animals, and craftsmen who helped him build the boat. The flood lasts for six days and six nights.
Utnapishtim sees a mountain, the boat floats towards it. Utnapishtim realeses three birds, one after the
other, in an attempt to find shore. The first two birds return but the third, a raven, doesn t return.
Utnapishtim then knows that there is shore for him to go to. Utnapishtim gives sacrafices of cane,
cedar, and myrtle. Ishtar tells the others gods about Enlil and how he started the flood. Utnapishtim
was then blessed with eternal life. This story is very similar to the story of Noah in Gensis. The flood
in Noah was also to a punishment for mankind. Utnapishtim and Noah were chosen to build an ark to

What do you do when you re not sure... so begins Father Flynn s sermon near the beginning of the
play Doubt. Father Flynn delivers his sermon to the people of St. Nicholas Catholic church in the
Bronx in the year following President Kennedy s assassination. His sermon builds upon a story of a
sailor lost at sea who has doubts about the course he has set and his doubt becomes the metaphor for

appearance. Additionally, in the Biblical texts as well as the Quran where Bible characters have seen
God, they have often used personifications to explain their encounter with God. In this discussion, the

However there are still many obstacles for female advancements. While these two women were able to
graduate from the ranger program, according to military rules, even though they have completed the
ranger program they are not allowed to try out or serve on the ranger regiment (Oppel). This shows the
heavy divide in female to male leadership roles. Despite the heavy restrictions placed on female
soldiers this new development may be just what is needed to allow women to have a place in higher
leadership roles. According to Oppel the Army and other branches of service have until January 1st to
decide what jobs are going to be open to women. This shows the leading role these women have
already taken on. They are setting the way for other women to make advancements in all fields.
Women have been taking on more responsibility in the military as time has moved on. They have
served our nation in combat and some have even been a part of support teams to help Ranger and
Navy SEALS in the past. According to Oppel, some women even perform intelligence gathering as
part of SEAL Team 6 s top secret Black Squadron. This shows that women have been a vital part of
military victories for years. One commander mentioned in Oppel piece in defense of women is
Colonel Fivecoat. He said that he would always make sure two women would be assigned to his

Truman Capote Summary
The book is about Truman Capote studying the murders that happened in 1956 to the cutter family
after two robbers broke in trying to steal the non existent family safe. Capote saw an article that was
put in the New York Times and called his best friend Harper Lee to go down to Kansas to see the
murder scene. After they went down to investigate and write the findings. Whiles there, the two
murderers were found in Vegas and were brought back to Kansas, tried and later hanged for their
crimes.
Structure
The book is divided into four parts:The Last to See them alive, Persons Unknown, Answer, and The
Corner. Within the sections there are chapters , but the sections have no titles. The first section leads
up to the murders, Persons Unknown the murders themselves, Answers about the investigation and
finding the murders, and The corner to them being caught and hung. There is also an introduction with
background of the author and his works, acknowledgment to all of the people that have helping so
much in the production of this book.
Exigence
This book was published in 1960, two years after the murders taken place. Capote saw a small 300
word article about the murders before the trial and expanded on it tremendously with first hand
accounts taken from Holcomb, Kansas and after the trial and execution of the two suspects. Since this
was still relatively new it gave readers a deeper look into this intriguing mystery.
