2. What Did Feynman Say About How Science Works
1. What did Feynman say about how Science works?
Feynman simply explains how to find a new law in science: first we guess it, then we compute the
consequences of the guess to see if its right through experiments/nature/observation. If it disagrees
with experiment its wrong. He says that that simple statement is the key to science and it doesn t
matter who or when the guess was made.
2. How does spectroscopy tell us what Stars are made of?
When elements are heated they emit light at certain wavelengths which we perceive as colors.
Spectroscopy analyzes all the wavelengths in a particular beam of light and this information can be
used to determine what elements the source of the light contains. So with any object that emits light,
we can determine what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We can then determine how far away the galaxy is by observing the brightness of the stars. If a galaxy
is too far away for us to distinguish individual stars, astronomers can use SuperNovas. We know from
experience how much light output a SuperNovae emits, so we can determine how far away the
galaxies are. Supernovae s can be used to measure the distance to galaxies as far as 10 billion light
years away.
5. What is the Hubble Law, or Hubble Constant?
The Hubble Constant is the unit of measurement used to describe the expansion of the universe. The
Hubble Constant states that the farther a galaxy is away from us, the faster it is moving away from us.
Hc = 42 miles/second ÷ 3 million Light Years
6. How do we get the age of the universe?
We can get the age of the universe simply by reversing the equation. Light travels incredibly fast,
around 186,000 miles per second. First we need to calculate how fast light travels in a year:
186,000 mi/sec (3600s/1hr)(24hr/1day)(365day/1year) = 5.866 x 1012
That s how far light travels in 1 lightyear, so now we multiply by 3 million:
(5.866 x 1012)(3 x 106) = 1.76 x

There was a town in Asia with a large Jewish population. There was one christian school opened up

Jews, supported by the Crown for the foul lucre of their usury. (Chaucer 170) A widow s seven year
old son attended this school. He was extremely devoted to his faith. One day the widow s son was
walking home from school singing Alma redemptoris, a song giving praise to Virgin Mary, this made
the jews in the city very angry. They were so enraged that they hired someone to murder the boy by
slitting his throat and then throwing his body into a cesspit. Down a dark alley way they found and
hired a murderer owned that secret place. (Chaucer 173) The boy s mother looked all night for her son
and she begged the Jews to tell her where he is. The jews refused to help the widow. This wretched
widow waited all that night, she waited for her child but all for nought. (Chaucer 173) Then Jesus

8. Descartes Ontological Argument Essay
In philosophy of religion, one of Descartes s most famous arguments is his Ontological proof for the
existence of God. It is a proof that one can know God a priori, with no experience whatsoever.
Countering Descartes, a philosopher named Caterus raised key objections to his proof, which
Descartes later responded to in an intriguing way. Descartes s reply to Caterus s critique of the
Ontological argument does not properly refute the objections made. Descartes s Ontological argument
begins with the idea of that which is clearly and distinctly known must be true. Following from that,
he states that because one clearly and distinctly perceives God as a being with all perfections and
because existence is a perfection, God must exist. Further, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Caterus writes, This complex existent lion includes both lion and the mode existence; and includes
them essentially, for if you take away either it will not be the same complex (Descartes, 2009, p.86).
Further in his writing, Caterus shows that although something may possess the mode existing , that
mode only applies if the object itself already exists. In defense of this argument, he states that
although God can clearly and distinctly perceive an existent lion , God is in no way required to make
that lion exist. Likewise, one cannot prove the existence of God without first showing that God
already exists (Descartes, 2009, pp.86 7). This refutation that Caterus raises plays a key role in
defeating Descartes preemptive defense of his own argument. With this logic, Caterus shows that
existing, as a property, even as an essential property, does not equate to necessary existence.
Throughout Caterus s critique, many strong objections are raised, and it is when Descartes attempts to
respond that the argument falls apart. Descartes fails to properly refute any objections raised by
Caterus, or solidify his case. To begin his response, Descartes (2009) begins by contrasting St. Thomas
s argument and his own. In this contrasting, he states that his argument is not subject to the criticisms
St. Thomas s argument is, due to the different wording used (p.87). I believe, however, that Caterus
was not attempting to directly say the arguments were identical. Caterus even

Critically analyse the white Australia policy relating it to the quote provided
In 1901, Edmund Barton the prime minster at time decided to introduce the Immigration Restriction
Act left Australia banning prostitutes, criminals, and anyone under a contract or agreement to perform
manual labour within Australia which seems that Edmund Barton was doing his job and kept Australia
safe but he was not. This is because, he did not stop there, he introduced a dictation test to exclude
certain people by making them sit a written exam that they need to pass to be welcome in Australia

not welcome here. Many of prime ministers were involved in this as it ended in 1973. The quote
Australia is not, and never has been, the racist country its academic historians have been condemned is
most certainly incorrect between the years 1901 to 1973 as the majority of people were not allowed to

other countries saw Australia.

11. Career Progression And The Career Development
The above quote by Confucius is often quoted, yet job happiness isn t as easily achieved. One of the
reasons behind job dissatisfaction is often the lack of planning. But career progression and the ability
find a job that doesn t feel like work requires meticulous research and focus.
In this guide, we ll explain career progression and the reasons why it s so important. We ll provide a
four step plan to help you develop a plan that guarantees you don t feel left behind when it comes to
achieving your career goals.
What is career progression?
The concept of career progressing is closely tied to the idea of career development. Career
development is the lifelong process of managing your circumstances in order to move forward to
achieving your personal goals. It s the management of your education, work and leisure activities in a
way that helps you achieve the kind of future you want.
As the definition of progress states, progress is a process developing gradually towards a more
advanced state . Career progression sees you working towards your ultimate professional goals, little
by little.
In essence, career progression determines and outlines the route you should follow in order to reach
the career development goals you ve set out for you. For example, your dream career goal might be to
own your own business. A career progression plan will help identify the educational and work related
steps you should take in order to get closer to this goal and ultimately, to achieve

12. The Diet And Foraging Behavior
Diet and Foraging Behavior
Capuchins are generally frugivorous with fleshy fruits making up 53.9% of their diet. The other half
of their diet is made up of 16% seeds, 13.9 % corn, 11.1% flowers, 6.3 % leaves, and 1.5% roots.
These primates forage together in large groups; and have a preference for fleshy fruits is thought to be
a way of eliminating competition for food, as there is evidence that other species avoid the fruits
capuchins eat (Galetti and Pedroni 1994). While chimpanzees and capuchins share the diet of seeds,
leaves, and fruits; the diet of the chimp is incredibly variable. Although primarily frugivorous their
diet includes: bark, resin, stems, pith, insects, eggs, and occasionally soil (Goodall 1986).The usually
highly social chimpanzee prefers to forage alone with males spending most of their day foraging for
food and females spending more than half of their day resting. There is also evidence of groups of
chimpanzees hunting and eating various large mammals including: bushpigs, colobus monkeys, and
baboons (Boesch Boesch 1989).
Capuchins and chimpanzees both utilize tools in order to obtain foods. Capuchins have utilized anvil
stone tool technology, in which a nut is placed on a hard surface (anvil) and pounded upon using a
large stone (hammer) until the shell cracks (Fragaszy 2004).On the other hand, chimpanzees not only
use the hammer and anvil technology, they also create their own tools. Chimpanzees have been known

Imagine you were a dinosaur, living 65 million years ago. One day, you are going around doing what
you do on a normal basis, when suddenly you see a giant object coming towards the ground a few

light coming rapidly towards you. Other dinosaurs are running away from the light as you start
following them. You look behind you to see the light is quickly catching up to you as suddenly it
catches you. You feel immense pain and then you are dead. I believe that the mass extinction of the
dinosaurs sixty five million years ago was caused by an asteroid ten kilometers wide striking just off
of the coast of the Yucatan peninsula, that caused smoke to block out the sun and for fireballs to shoot
across the sky. About 65 million years ago, an asteroid is said to have crashed off the coast of the

Playstation vs Xbox: which is better? What started as a simple two horse race between the PS4 and
Xbox One back in 2013 now consists of a massive six different pieces of hardware (Matt and Jon).
The Xbox is a gamer console that is fighting against Playstation over the best selling. Based on
statistics the Xbox One has taken the lead for the past 2 years over the PS4. Sony s PS4 is trying to
beat the Xbox on everything that they can. Overall, Xbox is better than Playstation because they have
better graphics in gaming, cheap, and better entertainment.
First of all, in these two amazing products we can contrast their best features. The 4K, which in
consumer terms means a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels, has long been familiar for movies and TV
shows and is now appearing as the default on most new gaming hardware. Consumers are now
looking who has the best graphics because they want to have the best definition while playing.
Eventually, the Xbox hasn t launched an Xbox with a 4K gaming for all the video games. However,
the PlayStation has the PS4 Pro with the capacity of 4K gaming more than the Xbox. This can be

17. The Department Of Homeland Security Made Us Safer
Has the Department of Homeland Security Made Us Safer?
As one of the greatest power houses in the world, the United States has attempted to keep warfare on
foreign soil rather than stateside. Doing so was a lot easier when war was fought between two
different countries, but nowadays, the main source of conflict around the world comes from small
bands of people who reside, not in one country or place, but spread throughout the world.
Traditionally military servicemen would wear some type of camouflage utilities and would be
carrying their rifles at the ready in case of any contact. Combat has dramatically changed and has
made it extremely harder to distinguish enemy from friendly or natural forces. Bombs are created to
be worn under cloths, IEDs (or improvised Explosive Devices) are hidden under roadways, and in my
opinion, war has become more of a cowardice game hide and seek. This shift in combat strategies has
made keeping warfare away from the homeland harder and harder. After the Attacks on the United
States on 11 September 2105, the government created the Department of Homeland Security in order
to protect our nation from further attacks.
The proposal to create the department of Homeland Security was created in the early months of 2002

18. The Rise Of Christianity And Christianity
Christianity began its succession into the most dominant worldwide religion after Jesus crucifixion
and resurrection. We heard Him say, I will destroy this temple made with hands, and within three days
build another made without hands. Upon Jesus death and resurrection, he completed this task setting
forth the development of Christianity. Since Jesus left no formal authoritative power, organization, or
agreed upon scriptures, a wide variety of sects gained popularity in the development of Christianity.
Most of these sects were later deemed as heretic, one of the most notable being Gnosticism.
Gnosticism was a dualist religion believing the material world evil and the invisible spirit realm good.
This belief obligated Gnosticism to follow Docetic interpretations. Docetism is the belief that Jesus
was never truly man but rather a divine from the spirit world. All forms of Christianity, however,
believe Jesus is son of God sent as humanity s savior from damnation. Docetism, along with other
aspects of Gnosticism, drove other Christians condemn Gnosticism as heresy. Gnosticism, however, is
more comparable to Canonical Christians than realized. Specifically, the distinction between Docetism
and strict Canonical belief is not only insignificant but also justifiable due to Canonical contradictions
surrounding Jesus existence.

classmate s identities to become apparent. While I believe the topics were less controversial during
this period, I believe that the selected readings and a greater degree of variation in my classmate s
opinions made this period much more disputed. Additionally, the topics reviewed have ushered to the
forefront several students who until now had remained in the background. I count myself among the
students who became more comfortable and assured during this reflection period. By now, I am pretty
confident that I have gotten to know my classmates well enough to relatively understand the
components of their identities that impact their perspectives. In the same manner, I believe that I have
been able to participate in these topics more frequently and have thus presented more of my own
identity to my classmates. This change in classroom dynamics and the relevance of the readings to my
own identity has thus impacted my ability to be more substantive a key goal I had for this second
reflection period. While my classmates have still occasionally questioned the relevance of my
responses to the readings, I am confident that my participation has greatly increased during this
period.

24. Action Potential Analysis
In our brain we have neurons that communicate every second of the day with one other through their
dendrite and axons. Most of the time incoming signals are received in the dendrites and outgoing
signals travel down the axon to the nerve terminal. For the neuron to receive the rapid communication
due to the long axon, the neuron sends electrical signals, from the cell s body to the nerve terminal.
This process is known as nerve impulses, or action potential. Brain neurons can transmit signals using
a flow of sodium(Na+) and potassium (K+) ions, that produces an electrical spike called an action
potential (AP) (Forrest, 2014, P. 1). Action potential is essentially a slight reversal of electric polarity
across the membrane. When an action potential takes place, the sodium potassium pump resets the
way sodium and potassium ions were back to their original positions. The sodium potassium does this
to the neuron so when it is then ready to relay another action potential, it will pump when called upon
to do so. The Na+/K+ pump has a housekeeping role rather than a direct role in brain signaling
(Forrest, 2014, P. 1). For an action potential to be generated the membrane voltage must be strong
enough to bring the membrane voltage to a critical value called the threshold. ... Show more content

As the action potential is near its peak, sodium channels begin to close which then allows the
potassium channels to fully open. Potassium ions rush out of the cell and the voltage quickly returns to
its original resting state. This corresponds to the falling phase of the action potential. Sodium and
potassium at this point have switched places across the membrane and the resting membrane potential
is then slowly restored due to diffusion and the sodium potassium pump. Without the process of the
sodium potassium pump and the action potential, our nerve cells will not

27. The Ministers Black Veil By Nathaniel Hawthorne
Many romantic writers focused on the gothic side of romantic literature, from quirky to evil they tend
to draw emotions from the viewer. The focused material is The Ministers Black Veil , written by
Nathaniel Hawthorne. In the text Mr. Hooper is a preacher who is engaged to Elizabeth and has
recently started hiding his face behind a black veil. The townspeople begin to think he s gone mad. He
is very loving and caring, but known as living his life without much worries and being a sinful man.
While wearing the veil, he preaches and then is buried in it. Before he dies the only person who is not
afraid to question Mr. Hooper about the veil is his fiancé. He does not give Elizabeth a clear answer to
wearing the veil, which forces Elizabeth to believe he s covering up a committed sin by wearing the
veil. Throughout Hawthorne s work there were different actions that his characters portray. These
characters are identified as puritans who fought inner demons between lies and their sanity. In other
opinions one may refute that Hawthorne s purpose of hiding Mr. Hooper under the veil is just his way
of dealing with what he is going through. Hooper does not search for deliverance from his sorrows;
instead he resolves to live his life as best he can while dealing with them, a stance that leaves no room
for unpredictable deliverance from God (Buchanan 6). Here it states that Hooper is dealing with his
issues, even though from the outside he is portraying something else. Although

we were setting up our business, we discovered that opening a Salon Spa was not going to be easy. We
needed to raise capital and I came up with the idea to sell baskets with lotion, soap and body spray.
Me being the person that I am, I wanted those products to bear our name. I did a extensive search on

32. Forest Observation Paper
In the North Carolinian piedmont, there are several different forest communities. The main types are,
loblolly/ slash pine forest, mesic forest, oak forest, and floodplain forest (NC Wildlife 2015). Soil
types, elevation, climate, and nutrient availability are important components of determining forest
types. There are also certain species, considered indicators that help predict the type of forest
community. The change in environmental factors and species distribution allow for different forest
types (Cortes, Islebe 2005). Measuring the environmental factors of a plot and identifying the different
species present can predict Forest types and is commonly done by land and forest managers (Fortunel
etc. Al 2014). This experiment tests different locations of the NC piedmont, to help determine forest
types in this area. Through looking at different areas of the piedmont, I hypothesis there will be four
different types of forests, representing the most common types in this area. In addition, I predict soil
types and nutrients are important indicators of forest types.

33. The Creation Of The Jewish State As Part Of Palestine
Israel is a small country in southwestern Asia that was founded in 1948 as a sanctuary for Jews from
all parts of the world. Israel lies along the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea and is bordered by
Syria and Lebanon to the north, Egypt to the southwest, and Jordan to the east. Jerusalem is the capitol
and the largest city in Israel. It is considered by many faiths to be the holiest city in the world. A lot of
people think that United Nations were the one who gave birth to Israel, however in reality the United
Nations General Assembly recommended the creation of the Jewish state as part of Palestine. Many
events in the Jewish history gave purpose to create Israel. The most important were Zionism and
Holocaust, as well as end of the Second World War, where French and British have their influence on
Arab world. Genocide of the European Jews was at the horror point and led to the demand for the
Jewish State. The process of the creation of Israel started with the Zionism movement that was
happening in 1897 and ended in May of 1948. Theodor Herzl was the founder of political Zionism
movement. He published a book called The Jewish State where he was describing modern society, in
which Jewish people would be able to live in peace. Later on, Congress proposed the idea to establish
home for Jewish people in Palestine, it was promised under the international law.

34. Antony Flew on Christian Life
People always tend to give high attention to individuals who turned their backs on their once held
beliefs to argue that (Christian) faith is unreasonable and without real substance. Rationality seems to
be the source of every argument for the non existence of God, and is often understood as inherently
opposing to faith. However, the story of Antony Flew is one that atheists can and should not discard,
as he experienced something very different. Born into a Christian family Flew grew up in the church
and was exposed to Christian beliefs and customs. He never really found a personal connection to
Christianity and converted to Atheism, but after decades of arguing the non existence of God, he came
to the conclusion that there is no other possibility than the validity of the existence of God. This
process is documented in There is a God. Antony Flew is considered one of the, some might argue the
most important, proponents of atheism in the 20th century and his works made major contributions to
the argumentation of atheism.
The author begins his personal story, some might call it testimony, with explaining the process of
becoming an atheist in the first place, before rejecting it after all these years. Born as the son of a
Methodist minister and preacher, Flew went to a Christian school, and was, as he calls himself, a
committed and conscientious, if unenthusiastic, Christian (p.10). He did not feel a personal connection
to God and was not interested in any kind of worship.

35. Chris Argyris Theory Of Personality And The Organization
Talent management grew to be recognized in the 90s, but can be traced to the 1950s and 1960s in the
form of three management theories namely: Chris Argyris theory of personality and the organization;
Frederick Herzberg s two factor theory; as well as David McClelland s concept of achievement and
orientation theory.
i) Chris Argyris theory of Personality and organization: argues that corporate role expectations had
become stifle. The consistent development of individuals implied increasing responsibility and
emphasis on job space as well as five horizons but jobs limited responsibility were over specialized
and reduced below time expectations. Authoritative managements alienated employees within the
workplace. Most employees lost interest in their jobs and most had high levels of turnover intentions

36. Word Frequency Differences
In everyday conversation, there are words that people use quite frequently and words that are used
infrequently, which has been described as Word Frequency (WF). For example, the word cow has a
higher frequency, because it utilized more often in everyday conversation, novels, magazine,
newspaper, and academia than the word tungsten, which is less used (Davies, 2012). Andrews (1989)
argued that based on this concept of WF, NS has an effect only with words that have a low WF.
Explained further, the more neighbors that a low frequency word has, the longer it takes for one to
attain mental activation for word recognition (Andrews, 1992). Furthermore it is argued that WF has
more to do with word recognition than NS effect, because it is shown that ... Show more content on

It was found that regardless of the frequency of the target word, the greater WF difference that the
neighbor word has compared to the target word, the longer the delay in word determination that occurs
(Grainger et al., 1989). In addition, it was found that the larger the amount of these higher frequency
neighbors that the target has, the longer the delay of the neighborhood word (Grainger et al., 1989).
However, studies done by Sears et al. (2006) showed no such high frequency neighbor effect when the
study was replicated in English. The reasons for such disparity is that each language might have
different word characteristic, for example English words tend to be shorter on average than French,
German, or Spanish, which can have more neighbor words, which affects word determination time

University of South Florida
Tampa, U.S.A. simpsond@mail.usf.edu I. INTRODUCTION
Engineering has been an essential part of society since man created the wheel. Even from the days in
ancient Egypt when the pharaohs built the pyramids they used their own form of engineering.
Engineers were always a very prestigious occupation. It was roman engineers who allowed the city of
Rome to be built from the palaces to the aqueducts. After the roman engineers built the aqueducts then
engineering evolved to a more renaissance approach including building castles and moats. Kings and
queens would use engineers for personal statues of themselves or for improvements on their castles.
The foundation of engineering completely changed when Isaac newton invented calculus and put a
formula to gravity. A couple hundred years later, many engineers focused on improving machinery in
the industrial revolution, along with many improvements in the medical field. Lately some of the more
popular feats of engineers include large skyscrapers being built across the world, and one of the best
inventions of all which is the computer. Computer scientist and electrical engineers have been at the
forefront of our most recent technological advancement and will continue to push our technological
boundaries to the limits.

The director uses lighting in a way that it reflects of the structures of the town square. This creates an
over exposed frame for the scene. The bright lighting shows the happiness within the characters
lives. However in more serious and depressing situations, the camera angles become more still and
consitent with the frame and the lighting becomes dark. The angles remain in a still shot. The lighting
becomes unexpose and fails to show many views of the scenes. For example, the when Guido and
Giosue first enter the sleeping quarters, the angle is very still, and so are the characters. The director
uses a long shot and a full shot to convey the situation of the victims. The more consistent and still

6.0 Understanding Prostate Cancer
6.1 A general discussion about prostate cancer in NZ
This cancer is unusual in that it takes a long time (15 20 years or more) to progress from a localised
state in the prostate to metastatic disease and death. Men whose cancer is in the localised state may
have no prostate symptoms, no bleeding or pain. The tumour is too small to cause obstruction or
LUTS (In older men coexisting BPH may cause LUTS, but there may be a cancer present too).
Research on the incidence of Prostate Cancer and PSA testing in NZ Māori has shown that although
Māori have a decreased incidence compared to all men, their mortality rate is higher, and there is a
reduced rate of PSA testing. Pacific men have the same incidence and mortality as all men.
A positive Family History of prostate cancer is significant, having a first degree relative (brother or
father) increases the risk by 2 2.5 times, if 2 or more the risk is increased by 5 11 times. There is a
genetic (hereditary disease) sub group that accounts for near 10% of cases, this is likely if three or
more relatives.
Prostate cancer occurs mainly in older men. Nearly two thirds are diagnosed in men aged 65 or older,
and it is rare before age 40. The average age at the time of diagnosis is about 67. Prostate cancer is the
second leading cause of cancer death in American men, behind only lung cancer. In New Zealand
