Eurocentric Misconceptions Against Eurocentrism
Eurocentric attitudes constantly place itself at the forefront of our understandings of the world.
Western civilization examines dance within the binary of the opposite. As a consequence, non
European artists and/or marginalized forms of dance experience great difficulty in merely existing
within the Eurocentric agenda. African danceserves as just one example of a form of dance that
struggles to find a position on the world stage. In this paper, I engage in an exploration of the
question If possible, how can African dance exist without being compared to or said to be against
Eurocentrism? In this paper, I argue we must decolonize African dance so that African dance can

tap dancing is typically seen as a traditional European dance form (European). The use of Tap
dancing in a contemporary African piece, not only challenges the audience to define European and
African dance but also forces the audience to relearn XXX. As a result, African dance becomes
difficult to explain. The piece is neither traditional African dance, even though the music is
traditional African music, nor is it European, even though Gestes DГ©/LibГ©rГ©s incorporates

Output hardware is components of or devices linked to a computer, which allow the computer to
transfer information to another computer system or the user of a computer system (Kroenke
pg74). This output hardware sends information in the form of images, sound, or various other
tangible imagery usually, to some form of input hardware on another system. It is not designed
to receive data only to send. The most familiar of these devices is the visual display or computer
monitor. These monitors are usually synonymous with a computer and every system is equipped
with or able to connect to a Visual Display Unit. Projectors, audio systems, printers, and faxes are
all examples of output hardware. Microsoft Corporation in their endeavors to enhance everyone s
life with the aid of computing software has developed output hardware for the blind or visually
challenged. Windows also offers a function such as video narrator, that provides audio
descriptions of videos (http://Windows.Microsoft.com). In addition to these components windows
is compatible with numerous other programs and hardware components that are designed to
enhance the lives of those who are blind or visually impaired. More recently Microsoft has also
included Braille output devises and other hardware components in their product lines. For a quick

Homelessness In America
A growing problem in America is homeless families. Most families that are homeless have at
least one or two children. Being homeless as a child can have severe effects on that child s
education and development. Homeless children may have trouble focusing in class not only
because they were not able to do the homework, but also because they may not have had enough
to eat or a decent place to sleep, and they may be emotionally overwhelmed by the upheavals in
their personal lives ( Over One Million U.S. Kids are Homeless ). Many things can contribute to
homelessness, for instance; poverty, lack of affordable housing, job loss, economic insecurity, etc.
America needs to stabilize shelters, move homeless people into permanent housing, execute
assistance programs to help people maintain their housing, and expand local government support for
the development of affordable housing units. Homeless shelters do already exist in America, but
most are filthy and are invaded with bedbugs and body lice. Most large homeless shelters do not
have proper ventilation, causing it to get extremely hot during the summer. Even though families do
stay in these shelters, it is unsafe and gross. Homeless shelters in America are mostly funded from
donations, meaning that homeless shelters do not have very large funds. Therefore, homeless
shelters should be funded by the government. With the proper funding, shelters could be properly
built and be able to maintain cleanliness. If homeless shelters

What To Teach Summary And Analysis
1.What are some critical factors in your decisions about what to teach? In my opinion the critical
factors in determining my decisions about what to teach include the standards, and curriculum; but
most importantly my students. My students are the ones who I am teaching so they are most
significant. Their cultures backgrounds, prior math classes, and etc. determine my decisions on
what is the most effective approach for them to understand the material. It is vital to know what
your students know and what you intended to teach them in order to effectively plan a lesson.
Therefore this goes along with my belief that if you do not know the students then you cannot
effectively teach them. 2.How will you keep students focused during your lessons?... Show more

Majority of students come in with pre conceived notions that math is boring or that they are
incapable of doing it. Therefore I plan on changing the students mindset by planning interactive
activities and lessons. I am not sure what exactly that will look like on a day to day basis right
now. However I see that as having activities that get them up and moving or having an active role
in the learning process. I think that my movement about the classroom will allow for me to
monitor students staying on task. I have already been practicing the look (or eye) and my
proximity to students in the classroom. I also think that breaking up lessons that may seem
repetitive or mundane will also allow students to be engaged. This may look like them standing up
and working problems out, having students come to the board or stations around the room. I am
excited to use the many methods we have learned in order to keep students engaged and focused

The Effects Of Prenatal Testing On Children With A Birth...
Prenatal testing was designed to allow a mother with a possible high risk the option to ensure the
health of their unborn child with a birth defect. The testing will also detect harm to the unborn
fetus if the mother was exposed to a disease or sickness. There are multiple levels of screening
and testing that can be done to provide to give results to an unborn child. The screenings are safe
non invasive procedures that will detect particular birth defects.1 The types of screenings that can
be provided are ultrasound, and blood test.
Ultrasound screening uses sound waves to create an image of the fetus in the uterus. The test will
determined the size and the position of the fetus as well as any abnormalities with the bones or
organs of the unborn fetus. 2 There are many types of ultrasounds and at different levels they
will reveal more in depth issues or abnormalities. The first type being nuchal translucency
ultrasound; this type of ultrasound is done at 11 weeks 2 day to 14 weeks and 2 days. This
ultrasound measures fluid at the back of the babies neck allowing detection of Down syndrome
and major heart defects. The second type of ultrasound available is fetal anatomy survey or a level
1 ultrasound. This ultrasound will show how far along the pregnancy is. This is done between 17 to
20 weeks and allowing a head to toe scan to detect birth defects. If the level 1 scan is deemed to be
abnormal a level 2 ultrasound will be preformed to detect harder to find defects.

South America until Columbus brought them back from his last voyage. Since then cocoa has

Internal Controls And An Effective Internal Control Mechanism
Internal controls can be taken as any action taken by an organization to help enhance the likelihood

Existentialism and the Power and the Glory
Traditionally, Christian literary works are set in an idealized Christian reality, based upon
values sourced from scripture. In this reality, the Deus ex Machina is strictly literal, admitting at
any needed time a supernatural element to the story which, in all functionality, serves as
miracle, in either pivot of the plot or in character arc. It s a clichГ© of storytelling that has
become heavily condescended by readers and critics because it leaves little challenge,
application, or relation to both the characters in the story and the impact it makes on the
audience. They re experiences that a normal individual could never expect to have, leading many
to frustration and confusion. Graham Greene plants The Power and the Glory firmly in reality,
and while we still may find his character s experiences outside of likelihood in context of our
own, they remain realistic. They doubt God for good reason, and for the same reason they
believe. Their inner struggles are complex and anchored with honesty. The easy path is not taken
here. The Power and the Glory is set in revolutionary Mexico, in a time of persecution and political
turmoil. Poverty and crime is rampant, common liberties are threatened, and the hearts of everyone
are heavy. The transgressions Greene s characters experience already exceed most of our own,
helping us see our common struggles in a more legitimate, harsh light. They more than ever have
reason to be discouraged, and anything that can turn their calloused

like to congratulation you on your appointment to the Committee on Crime and Criminal Justice.
This memo has been created to give you background knowledge in the contemporary issues in law
enforcement in the United States. There are three levels of law enforcement, the federal level, the
state level and the local level. Each of these levels is very different and comprised of different
departments held within. The jobs they do together make up an important conglomeration, as they
are our countries first line of defense. They provide us with homeland security, investigate crimes,
arrest offenders, and also provide detention and correction supervision. They provide us with crime
prevention assistance and help to ensure the general public safety of our citizens. On the federal
level, as of today, there are 65 different federal agencies and each agency provides its own degree of
defense support depending on, its mission, what it oversees at the federal level and its jurisdiction.
Within each agency there are a range of varying departments with their own mission and
jurisdiction. Some examples of the departments on the federal level include; The Department of

Fees For High School Sports
Sports in conjunction with academics are capable of creating a balance that makes for a well
rounded citizen and healthy, happy employee. Issues in the mix often come from the balance itself.
Many students find themselves overcommitted to sport while others find they are not able to
compete. I will examine issues in interscholastic and collegiate sport.
Sports cannot always be completely free due to issues outside the realm of sport, but it should be
as inexpensive as possible to participate. Fees for high school sports should follow certain
guidelines. First off, there should always be a minimum cost sport option for high school
students. For example, any student should be allowed to participate in track and cross country
since these sports require little to no equipment and have little limits on team size. Second, high
schools should not make a net profit or loss on sports. High school sports should act as their own
entities with their own funding from the school board, and they should never take from
academics and vice versa. Third, different costs for sports should be controlled vehemently
before charging fees to play. There should be no more than 1 paid coach per team, and if there is
more than 1 paid coach, there should be no fees to play the sport since only one experienced coach
should be needed to share knowledge with the entire team and volunteer coaches. Other controllable
costs include equipment. Sports equipment and jerseys should be used for as long as

The High School Student Program
Choice is a luxury most in rural China cannot afford but, as a 16 year old girl who had just
arrived to the United States, the myriad of choices that lay before me was extremely awesome. I
equated the impressive array of choice in terms related to good fortune or even wealth, and this
beginning would serve as the impetus to my achievements in this country thus far. But, what
compelled me to leave my home and family, and travel alone to this country, was to become
educated. Where I am from in China, educationseems almost to be a type of magic that can only be
wished for; it is elusive to most. I recognized that education lay at the core of opportunity, and if I
focused and worked hard I could one day share the good fortune of choice as well as the magic
that only education can inspire others, both here as well as in China. I arrived to the U.S. as a high
schooljunior under the J 1 Visa, Secondary SchoolStudent Program and had the privilege to have
stayed in Virginia with a family headed by parents who are both school teachers. Upon
completion, I obtained an F 1 student visa and completed my senior year in 2011 at a rural
boarding school in northeast Georgia. Upon arriving to Drexel University (Drexel) as a
freshman I had already decided that my future professional life would, in some way, be in
education. After transferring to New York University (NYU) as a junior, I would choose a degree
in economics, which I felt to be fundamental in terms of my aspirations as a leader

When I finally read my whole mood changed she said I don t care that you hate me me because
honestly I feel like your fake I am clearly annoyed because nothing I was feeling was because of

Essay on Friday Night Lights by Buzz Bissinger
Athletics last for such a short period of time. It ends for people. But while it lasts, it creates this
make believe world where normal rules don t apply. We build this false atmosphere. When it s
over and the harsh reality sets in, that s the real joke we play on people (Bissinger xiv). Friday
Night Lights shows the darker side of high school football. Players are taught to play games to win,
and thats all that matters. Football players are put under a tremendous amount of pressure, almost
enough to be considered unfair. Even though football is a team sport , pressure on individual
players is unnecessary. Some players have the burden of the team, the city, their family, and their
future, resting on their shoulders. These players... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But there was no way he could fulfill the requirements of the NCAA for number of courses
needed to qualify for a nonrestrictive scholarship (Bissinger 65). Boobie thinks that he has to

comes out with a serious knee injury. All Boobie wants is to have a career in football, and now
ruins his own dreams. He has made himself his own worst enemy and ruined the only thing he
was prepared for in life. Boobie also experiences harsh pressure from his uncle, L.V. Some who
knew L.V. thought he had pushed Boobie too much, wasn t living for him as much as he was
living though him (Bissinger 61). Boobie even admits his uncle pushes him too hard (Bissinger
63). L.V. pressures Boobie because he himself never got the chance to play high school football,
so now he can force Boobie to experience everything he wants. L.V. treats Boobie s life as his
own, which makes Boobie stress about his game and his life being just how his uncle wants it to
be. He wants to exceed his standards and be better than his uncle ever thought he could possibly
be. Boobie also plays for his uncle because he believes that football is the way to repay him for
everything he has done for him. The way L.V. talks so highly of Boobie makes the audience
believe that Boobie s short lived high school football career is the most important thing to L.V. He

Some theories say the bodies were supposed to be buried in a mineshaft, but due to the truck
breaking down they were instead buried on the side of the road (Elvidge). Others theories state
that in attempt to conceal the bodies, the corpses were burned, then dropped in a pool of water
at the bottom of the mineshaft. That attempt did not completely hide the evidence so their faces
were burned with sulfuric acid, to prevent recognition, and put in another mineshaft. After both
failed attempts, Yurovsky s men resorted to digging a grave for the bodies (Cavendish). After
an investigation in 1991, a mass grave was found in an open field only a few kilometers away
from the mineshaft. The first grave found contained only 9 of the 11 missing bodies (Coble).
DNA testing of the bodies by Dr. Peter Gill proved that the bodies belonged to the Tsar, Tsarina,

Whyte and the Street Life Project were setting up cameras at public places like plazas, urban
streets, and parks. They were doing this to capture how the spaces in cities were actually being
used by people and to observe patterns in the behavior of people out in public places. The
temperature, what people were doing, whether they were eating, talking or reading the paper, and
the time of the day were all mapped. It was observed that people look at other people. For
instance, some group of guys would watch the girls but they would never actually talk to them. The

They would sit at places regardless of if the sun was out or not. In the film, it was also discussed
how water was also something that people enjoyed as it was implemented by the water
fountains. People enjoyed the sound of the water, the look of it, and the way it made them feel
cool and refreshed. People were also shown putting their feet in the water, playing and splashing.
Food was also another factor of the plazas that people enjoyed. People would sell food in carts at
the plaza, people found them attracting as it was a good place to stop by if they were to have
gotten hungry. People even socialized around these food places in the plaza. Another topic that
was talked about was the scale of the place. The scale was important because some places were
very spacious, however, there would be no people there. There would be small spaces that were
used up by people and they would get full and there were very spacious places that would also
get full. The size should have been big enough for people to use. The study has had an impact on
how we design spaces in the contemporary urban landscape. The reason that I believe this is
because the film did a good job at showing what people

Essay On David Attenborough
~ Intro
I am sure all of you have heard of David Attenborough, or at least recognize his very familiar
voice. Although David did not get famous for biological discoveries, but by the many
documentaries he has made. He has made a lot of documentaries with several facts about many
different things including dinosaur fossil discoveries, sea animals and plants, and a lot of the many
species of plants and animals that live on this beautiful earth.
~ Early life
On May 8, 1926, in Isleworth, United Kingdom, David Frederick Attenborough was born into a
family of 7. His mother s name was Mary and his father s name was Frederick. They got married
in 1922. Frederick Attenborough was the principal of the University of Leicester and was also
the author of The Laws of the Earliest English Kings and Laws of the Earliest English Kings
Scholar s Choice Edition . David has 4 siblings, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters. His siblings names were
Richard Attenborough, John Attenborough, Irene Bejach, and Helga Bejach. His older brother,

able to share so many facts about wildlife through his documentaries and shows. He changed the
way Animal Planet works entirely by bringing the cameras out to the animal s habitat and showing
how they really act out in the wild instead of one that grew up in captivity. He has educated so
many people across the world about wildlife, which I really think that it is important to at least
know a little bit about it. I think that David Attenborough changed the world for the

The Theatre Of The Lounge
Led by a group of actors into the theatre from the lounge, I saw a number of different theatrical
elements that were distinguished from other conventional theatre. The very first item that
caught my attention as I entered was a line of racks for coat hangers. Normally they would not
be one of the first objects an audience would notice in the house. The actors naturally guided the
audience to hang their coats on the hangers. As I went further into the space, I realized the
audience seats did not face the stage; the platform in which performance usually takes place on
was veiled by black curtains, visually creating a wall. This creation of the new wall yet did not
induce me to raise a question on where the actors would act; its answer was evidently shown. The
house was stripped down to a bare, flat ground, encircled by the audience chairs. I did not see any
specially raised platform that highlighted any actors presence. Nor did I see any decorative set
design, apart from two pillars and a bench in between, which distinctly differentiated the acting
region from the spectator region. I did see a blue tape on the ground that physically defined the
stage area. However, sitting in the front row, the tape mark was so close that I could easily step on
it. Meanwhile, instead of preparing themselves at the backstage for the play to start, the actors
walked around and interacted with the audience members through informal conversation. They all

Horizontal and Vertical intergration

The Meaning of Vertical and Horizontal Integration
Horizontal integration is where an organisation owns two or more companies, on the same level of
the buying chain. An example of this is the First Choice Group; they own First Choice Travel
Agency and
First Choice Hypermarket, both of which are on the same level of the buying chain. The advantage
of horizontal integration is that it can increase the company s market share. Another good example
of this type of integration is when EasyJet purchased the airline Go from British
Airways. Now EasyJet and Go both operate under the company ... Show more content on

If the travel agent doesn t wish to accept the offer, they may lose a lot of business, as they are not
selling as many products, to cater for the customers needs. Independent travel agents are being
seriously affected by integration, big companies such as First Choice, are controlling the amount of
commission travel agents receive. They are also losing commission as tour operators and airlines
are selling their products and services direct on the Internet. Older customers still prefer to use high
street travel agents as they may not know how to use the Internet or would like the reassurance of
booking in person. Travel agents are having to change to meet the needs of the customer, and are
turning to the niche market to make commission.
Airlines have also been affected by integration, British Airways wanted to merge with American
Airlines, but IATA declined their proposal, as they would be able to dominate the pricing of
transatlantic flights from the UK.
Horizontal and vertical integration has reduced competition within the industry, as more
organisations are buying each other out to expand due to the demand that is being received from
the public for their products and services. Companies that are integrating are able to set the price,
and smaller companies such as Collette Worldwide Holidays, will be unable to compete. The risk
that larger

These changes included the incorporation of more illumination and decorations in the books and
the study books contained some images, but they were not illustrated with color. This tendency
grew into the Gothic period where there were bigger image sizes but at least one if not many
decorations around the page. Foliate patterns on elaborate boarders were the common fixings
integrated in the manuscript. A different artist was utilized to work on different part of the
decoration. An artist had their own unique skill that they used when working on a certain piece of
an image.
A standardized form of Latin, which originated from Classical Latin, was used in the texts along
with new formed words. Medieval Latin was most used in that time and was a common language
used by the people of Europe. In fact, this language was commonly used by businessmen and
scholars for communication, learning and administration purposes. The texts were usually

A Study On The Killer Whales
Killer whales were first captured and separated from their family group (pods) to be put display
for the public 1964. After years of research in their natural habitat and at marine parks throughout
the world, it has become obvious that they belong in the ocean and not kept in captivity (Rose).
The stress that killer whales feel at being kept in tanks for the general public s amusement changes
their natural behavior and makes them a danger to anyone who has direct contact with them. I feel
that after so many years of having marine biologists and veterinarians studying these animals in
captivity that little can be left to learn about the killer whales to justify breeding killer whales and
keeping them in marine parks. Killer Whales... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Male killer whales typically live up to 30 years in the wild but can live for as long as 60 years.
Female killer whales typically live up to 50 years but they can live as long as 100 years ( Killers
). In captivity, only a few out of the more than 200 whales that have been either captured in the
wild or bred at the marine parks have lived beyond 40 years (Rose). Female killer whales become
sexually active between 6 10 years of age and males between 10 13 years of age. Female killer
whales in the wild are thought to breed every three to five years and nurse their calves for the
first one to two years. The gestation period for the pregnancy is seventeen months ( Welcome ).
Killer whales are very social animals and are commonly found in pods of as few as 3 to more
than 25 animals including at least one large male. Killer whales typically stay in their pods for
their entire lives. Various pods of killer whales have been observed mixing with other pods either
for social interactions or mating ( Killer ). They communicate through a series of whistle and
clicks, which can be modulated by pitch and multiple harmonics. Pulsed calls are the most
common form of vocalization that resembles squeaks, screams, and squawks to the human ear (
Killer ). Killer whales are actually pack hunters, like wolves, coordinating their attack and herding
their prey into a small area. They are called killer whales due to the fact that

Recording Guitar And A Dynamic Cardioid Microphone
Recording guitar is rarely ever as easy as sloppily plopping down whatever mic s handy at the
moment in front of the speaker grille and hitting record. Majority would even argue that mic
choice and placement only play bit parts in a larger production that involves pre amps, guitar
amps, cable length, A/D D/A converters, tracking through a console clean vis a vis applying
processing going in, and of course, the choice of guitaritself! Instead of writing a fully
comprehensive work (and a very, very long discussion and debate), this article aims to address
some basic guitar micing technique using a dynamic cardioid microphone(such as the venerable
SM57) and a condenser (such as a Neumann u87). 1 mic technique If the situation calls for using
one microphone, you can position your dynamic mic either as close to the speaker grille cloth as
possible (less ambiance) or 3 6 inches away, either pointing to the center of the cone or off axis.
Listen through your monitors how the speaker sounds like, and change cones if you aren t
satisfied (as in the case of a marshall 4x12). Once you ve decided on which cone to record, fine
tune the guitar sound by angling the mic towards or away from the center of the cone as it makes
a difference in the tone coming into your recording. A condenser is generally placed a bit farther
because of its higher sensitivity (and in some cases, lower clipping point with regard to SPL
handling). 2 mic technique Applying the technique above, one may

Town Family Members Essay
My family network starts with my grandparents. Both sets of grandparents have passed away
while I was younger. My parents relationship is strong. They have raised four children and worked
and retired from two jobs each. My parents main focus is spending time with other family members

Socially Engaged Arts, Or Sea Essay
Socially Engaged Art. Definition. There exists a cornucopia of terminology when it comes to
activism realized through the arts. Among them are: social practice (which circumvents the
method of engagement); socially engaged art ; arts activism ; social justice art ; community based
art ; etc. (Dewhurst, 2010; Helguera, 2011). Although many of these terms can be used
interchangeably, for the sake of consistency this paper will refer to this practice as socially engaged
arts, or SEA. As Dewhurst aptly outlines, Despite these various names, this work often shares a
commitment to create art that draws attention to, mobilizes action towards, or attempts to
intervene in systems of inequality or injustice (2010, p.1). Platt (2010) places singular emphasis
on the artist who is committed to engaging contemporary political issues...convinced of the urgent
necessity to use the power of art...to make visible what is kept invisible... (p. xiv). The work of
the participants of SEA is one half to a whole for creating arts, the other half being the audience
participation and feedback. As Shank (2004) alleges, the two main strategies for presenting SEA to
audiences are targeting powerful organizations and constituents, or powerless organizations and
constituents (p. 539). Platt s vision of the lone artist is better utilized for global exposure with
powerful audiences to react to injustices made visible, however this paper will focus primarily on
engaging audiences who are marginalized.

included the killing of 6 million Jewish men, women, and children as well as gypsies and political
prisoners ( RavensbrГјck 1). Many escaped, especially those who were more fortunate (Thomson,

The Power Of Dance
The Power of Dance
Dance has been a natural movement form since the beginning of time. The origin of dance is
unknown, just as the knowledge of the benefits of dance are unknown to many in our society. Many
people do not enjoy dancing and also do not fully understand the positive benefits that come from
dancing. Researchers such as Edwards, Duberg, and many more have found countless mental and
emotional benefits of dance that originate from movement patterns, brain connections, and even
expressions of emotion. Many are aware of the physical benefits of dance, but beyond the physical
benefits of dance, there are also emotional and mental benefits that come from dance as well.
This paper explores my main question, how does movement through dance affect the mental and
emotional dimensions of wellness? I will explore the many unknown benefits that come from
dance as well as share expressions of my personal thoughts on the subject. I will also share my
personal experiences as well as others experiences with dance. In the research portion of my
paper, I will cite studies supporting both the mental and emotional benefits of dance. This paper
will also explore the perspective of a professor of dance, as well as the lived experiences of actual
dance students. My interview will support my paper as it reinforces the findings in literature. I will
discuss my future plans on the subject of mental and emotional dance; stressing the need for
individuals to dance as the benefits can be

The Importance Of The Media
With the fantastic spur both in industry and economy in the world, the spread of media is on the
rise. In general, media refers to the implement of mass communication, it consists of newspaper,
magazines, television, the internet and so forth. There is a huge amount of media users around the
world which means the number of audiences is large. As generally acknowledged, nowadays, the
spread of news, entertainment has a rapid speed through the media and mass communication. The
public opinions and thoughts can be easily affected by the spread of media, also, mass
communication of the news mediamay provide some bias and prejudice of the news. In this sense,

general, agenda setting describes the effects of the media on the general public, the ability to
choose important issues (Moon 2011, p.699). The sense of agenda setting has been deeply accepted
by the public a long time ago. In 1992, Walter Lippmann (1992), a newspaper columnist, argued that
the mass mediahas the ability to produce images of events that can be present to the public. Since
1948, Lazarsfeld and Metton (1948) acknowledged that the function of the press to give specific
status upon events it emphasizes. Till 1959, Norton Long (Long 1958) also illustrated that media

How to Survive Cheer Practice
Cheerleading practice can be harder than someone might think, whether you are new to cheer or

Also, all those chants and dances can fill the brain up to the brim. Memorizing all of them takes

Management of Diversity in Organization
Management of Diversity in Organization
Abstract
Organizations have been becoming increasingly diverse in terms of gender, race, ethnicity, and
nationality. This diversity brings substantial potential benefits such as better decision making,
greater creativity and innovation, and more successful marketing to different types of customers.
But, increasing cultural differences within a workforce also bring potential costs in higher
turnovers, interpersonal conflicts, and communicational breakdowns. The utilities of diversity
training and the essential managerial skills required for effectively managing diversity will also be
discussed.

Research tends to support this relationship. Kanter s study of innovation in organizations revealed
that the most innovative companies deliberately establish heterogeneous teams to create a
marketplace of ideas, recognizing that a multiplicity of points of view needs to be brought to bear
on a problem . Kanter also specifically noted that companies high on innovation had done a better
job than most on eradicating racism, sexism, and classism, in addition, tended to employ more
women and racioethnic minorities than less innovative companies.
Research by Charlene J. Nemeth found that minority views can stimulate consideration of non
obvious alternatives in task groups. Nemeth found that the minority groups adopted multiple
strategies and identified more solutions than the majority groups. She concluded that the groups
exposed to minority views were more creative than the more homogeneous, majority groups. She
further concluded that persistent exposure to minority viewpoints stimulates creative thought
processes. Another experiment compared the creativity of teams that were homogeneous on a series
of attitude measures against teams with heterogeneous attitudes. Problem solution creativity was
judged on originality and practicality. Results indicated that as long as the team members had
similar ability levels, the heterogeneous teams were more creative than the homogeneous ones. If

A Dream Deferred And Langston Hughes Comparison
The novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, A Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes and
Hope by Karen Hesse are three bodies of writing that share many similarities in how they use
rhetoric to develop overarching themes. First, A Dream Deferred uses personification to get it s
theme across. It states What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the
sun? Or fester like a sore And then run? The author first uses a simile and compares a dream that
is deferred to a raisin that dry s up and the next line asks whether it festers like a sore and then
run which is also a simile and personification because dreams can t run. The poem A Dream

Abstinence Research
During the 20th century, American society faced plights relating to human sexuality like the HIV
crisis (1968) and the enormous teenage pregnancy rate in 1990 s. In this era, technological
developments made in contraception led to colossal advancement in the quest for finding solutions
to the previously mentioned problems. The results of these advancements came in the form of the
contraception pill approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1957 and the
development of the latex condom in 1920.
There has been much debate about the best method to approach complications related to sexual

Racial Stereotypes Of Asian-Americans
Today, when society talks about diversity, often times, Asian Americans are brought into the
conversation and are talked about as highly looked up to individuals, but they haven t always
been this way. On television, many times, Asian Americans are represented as nerdy and socially
incapable/awkward , Asian American males are mostly shown as being weak and stereotypically
awkward, while Asian American females are either shown as exotic or also stereotypically
awkward and nerdy, as stated by Takaki in his book Strangers from a Different Shore on page 479,
Hopeful a college education can help them [the students] overcome racial obstacles, they realize the
need to be serious about their studies. But white college students complain: Asian students are
nerds. This very stereotype betrays nervousness fears that Asian American students are raising class
grade curves.
Though, these representations do only account for the three most popular Asian ethnic groups:
Japanese, Chinese and Korean. The other Asian ethnic groups are mostly invisible to society, some
groups, such as the Vietnamese Americans and the Hmong Americans, are known for their
population size. These groups are also the groups that tend to live in areas that are largely
populated with the same race, therefore, congregating to one area. A lot of times, I ve realized
from personal experience, that when people realize that I am Asian, they tend to compare me
with the stereotypes that are generally associated with being Asian American. Often, I am told
that I am tall for being Asian as the stereotypes say that Asians females generally are shorter in
stature and are petite with light skin and pin straight black hair. On occasion, I am told that I look
more Hawaiian than I do Asian due to my darker skin and bigger build. Though, I do hear a lot of
comments regarding my eyes and about how little they are. These experiences have made me
believe that the role that Asian Americans play in the race conversation now is that when the
conversation turns to Asian America, people automatically look towards stereotypes along with
looking at certain traditional cultures often stating things such as, I really like Asian foods or, I
think that kimonos are

having sympathy for the poor, it didn t deter her from a successful writing career, nor deny her

An Effective Retail Design That Maximize Success For Juice...
This problem case details the steps to determine an effective retail design that would maximize
success for Juice Guys in the east coast market. After reaching triumph in the west coast market,
Juice Guys is looking to expand firstly into the Boston neighbourhoods. Boston consumers had a
strong likeness for NantucketNectars but the market was different: metropolitan city (year round)
versus summer only in Nantucket Island.
To accomplish this feat, the company must decide how to target and position the stores given the
differential differences in demographic and environmental traits. Furthermore, Juice Guys needs to
determine who are their customers, their inclinations for the product and their preferences to a
smoothie store. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This poses a substantial financial loss as each store provides a total of $1300 with margins as high
as 50%. Alternatively, Juice Guys has only been successful in the west coast; therefore the
company will not risk future losses. However, as there is a growing market for healthy lifestyles,
this presents a considerable growth option for the company.
2.Expand into east coast and design like west coast
Juice Guys currently has a strong reputation in the west coast, which can be carried forward to
their operations in the east. They have a deep reputation with consumers for their products, which
leads to increased potential of brand resonance. However, as the west coast consumers differ from
the east, there is the possibility of Juice Guys products not being accepted as welcomingly.
3.Expand into east coast and design for east coast needs
Juice Guys can capitalize on the brand equity of the brand yet design retail concepts in Boston
according to local needs. This option will allow the company to replicate the success they achieved
in Nantucket Island (modifying operations to open during summer to meet local consumer needs).
Additionally, this will allow the Boston market to understand this new product offering. However,
as retail concepts differ across the country, there may be the lack of consistency across the brand,
which will confuse consumers in Juice Guys brand message.
Critical Issues
1.Difference in market

The Evolution Of Allergies On Homo Sapiens
Sarah Husted
Anth 423
The evolution of allergies in Homo sapiens
As of 2008, approximately 25% of people in the developed world suffer from allergic disorders
(Galli, Tsai, Piliponsky, 2008). These disorders can be mild, but they can also be severe. Hay
fever, asthma, eczema, and anaphylaxis are a few examples of what can be categorized as
allergic disorders. The morbidity rates among school aged children in the industrialized world is
even higher than in the general population with 40 50% of children susceptible to one or more type
of allergy (Pawankar et al., 2011). The pervasiveness of allergies worldwide has risen in the
developed world for over 50 years. Many people take medication for their allergies but it can
often take years to find a completely effective regime, if ever. For some, allergic disorders can
severely disrupt everyday life. With so many suffering from allergies it is no surprise that this area
of health has been thoroughly studied. Interestingly enough though, while we do know what
happens in the human body during an allergy attack there is still debate as to why we as humans
evolved allergic disorders in the first place.
On a biological level, when an allergen enters your system it triggers a Type 2 immune response
(Pulendran, Artis, 2012). Th2 cells and IgE antibodies control this type of immune response as
opposed to the Th1 and IgM, IgA and IgG used a Type 1 immune response (Palm, Rosenstein,
Medzhitov, 2012). Type 2 immune response is

The Internet’s Impact on Stock Trading Essay
The Internet s Impact on Stock Trading
Before the internet, stock trading was done exclusively through brokers. Now that computers and
technology have apparent strongholds in the realm of stock trading, more people have access to the
market. This essay shares some experiences that online stock trading services and day traders have
had due to the radical movement of online trading. The essay commences with a fictional anecdote
that describes one man s unfortunate experience through online trading. It then moves to some non
fictional examples. One company was forced to leave the prospect of trading behind and had to
close its services. Another has found refuge in expanding its holdings by moving its primary focus
away from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But soon, many investors would realize that this wasn t the case.
Jon was one of these would be investors. He found internet stock trading as a way to break into
the stock trading game but the game was not kind to him or his finances. In 1998, he created an
account with an online stockbroker, which made trading easier. There was no consultation with a
professional broker and stocks could be bought and sold at the click of a button. In addition, the
stock market s boom was kind to investors. Stocks in technology seemed to be always on the rise.
Jon invested. He took three thousand dollars and invested under the impression that his money
would double or perhaps triple. A mere two years later, these internet and technological companies
experienced a realization.
They were vulnerable to an economic decline. In March and April of 2000, the technology boom
was no more. In fact, it imploded: it collapsed in upon itself. Investors are still trying to quantify
the damages and costs. Jon s small portfolio was at the mercy of the technology implosion. He too
became a loser in the investing game. His family savings was not doubled as he hoped, but rather,
worth only a couple hundred dollars. Now, he is not sure where to turn: I thought I had made the
right decision. I saw an opportunity to help my family and our financial status and jumped on it. I
never saw the true risk involved. Technology was hot. Who could

Motorcycle Club Evil Vs Evil
The television show, Sons of Anarchy has first aired in 2008 on cable network FX. It is
considered as a crime drama since its main focus is the motorcycle club which carries the same
name as the show itself (IMDb). The members of this club were living their life in outlaw,
believing that they kept the order in the town called Charming while in most of the cases they did
things that could put members behind jail bars. For six seasons, Jax and the club have been
unlikely heroes, as a working class biker gang dabbling in guns, drugs, prostitution, and
pornography. Oh, and tons of violence (...) But, despite the shady deals and blood baths, viewers
have stood by the Sons since 2008, because they protected Charming and seemingly avoided killing
innocent people (Worden, Paste Magazine). The spectators of this... Show more content on

People are trying to understand if God is all powerful and good, why does evil exist in the
world? They think that evil is a mystery, it comes from people s own free will, from Adam and
Eve s original sin or from the covenant with God. Also they classify evil in five categories;
natural evil, radical evil, evil for evil s sake, modern evil and the banality of evil. The television
show Sons of Anarchy has both radical evil and modern evil in itself. While Jax Teller, Tara

The Attack at Pearl Harbor
On December 7, 1941, one of the most devastating attacks in United States history occurred at
Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. On the morning of that day, unsuspecting soldiers were going about their
regular duties when an air attack from Japan hit them. Japan sent hundreds of airplanes carrying
bombs that brought utter destruction and devastation to hundreds of military equipment, airplanes,
and weapons. In a relatively short period of time, 2,402 Americans were killed, and 1,282 were
wounded (Merriam). The attacks came during a time where no one on the military base was
expecting it, nor were they prepared for such an act to occur. The impact that it had on the United
Stateswas astounding. It was shortly after the attack on Pearl Harborthat the United States declared
war on Japan and officially entered World War II (Hill). This war against Hitler and the Nazis was
one that the United States had avoided since its initiation, but after this attack, the U.S. had no
choice but to join the already ongoing war.
The United States entering the war was something that would not only bring revenge to a terrorist
attack on United States soil, but it would also bring a much necessary uplift to an economy
recovering from a recession (Hill). This brings to question whether the United States knew in
advance that Japan was going to attack the United States. The attack came at a precise perfect
moment when the United States was in desperate need of financial stability. War always brings

Effects Of Inspiration In Edgar Allan Poe
Title: Finding Inspiration Through Catastrophe Edgar Allan Poe once said, With me, poetry has not
been a purpose, but a passion. When stressed, literature was his coping mechanism, and through
observation, many grasp how much death encompassed Poe. Although not appreciated during his
era, he revolutionized mystery with mesmerizing story plots that yield suspense but also make
readers question his stability. Most importantly, unlike those famous during his lifetime, Poe s
legacy will live on. Moreover, throughout life, Poe experienced catastrophes, and because of this,
writing became his creative outlet. Poe parents, Elizabeth and David, both aspiring actors, died
when he was three. Although he remembered them briefly, their demise altered his outlook on life.
Nevertheless, refuge found him through John and Francis Allan, who accepted his ambitions with
reluctance as they envisioned him managing the family business. While growing up, they urged
him again and again in leaning towards another career, but his passions outweighed their
gratification. Since he remained stubborn, they provided him with little support during college
years. Consequently, Poe fell into a large amount of debt and began gambling. Therefore, stricken
by destitution and humiliated, he quit school and traveled home, only to discover his girlfriend
with another man. Overall, Poe s youth was marked by ill fated events which became the building
blocks for his writing. For instance, in The Cask of

Sinclair describes the managers of these plants as so heartless and driven, that if a man were
injured he was replaced and as punishment for slowing production. If a child fell ill, he was fired
unless he kept working. The work force was denied any rights due to the over surplus of labor
available. For every one worker available for pennies a day, there were several willing to work
for pennies a week. At times there were widespread unemployment, hunger, disease and waves of
immigration. Necessities were often scarce and work was a commodity not easily replaced.
(Sinclair, 1960) During this time social reformers like Dr. Maria Montessori were developing new
educational systems and programs for underprivileged children.
The reformers concern was that while parents were forced to slave long hours, the development
of the children was inhibited. The families lived in horrible conditions such as the tenements of
New York or Rome. Large families lived together in one or two room apartments with very little
space or room for a child to grow. The children were raised, not to become well educated minds,
but to become workers in the industrial society. Scientists, doctors and other outsiders brought to
the forefront methods of caring for young children long abandoned for fear of losing precious
income to infirmary or post natal recovery. This inspired some changes in the way mothers in
particular took care of their children until they were able

Dominant Limb
Handedness is closely associated with the term dominant arm/leg in that it refers to the limb an
individual is more comfortable using when it comes to motor skills. Research has shown the
dominant limb is stronger, faster, and more accurate in certain tasks than the non dominant limb. A
couple theories try to explain why there is this difference and the neurophysiological aspect of how
it works. The open versus closed loop hypothesis of handedness refers to the motor response from
sensory information in order to correct movements. The dynamic dominance of handedness
hypothesis states the non dominant limb is responsible for maintaining static positions or postures
while the dominant limb is in control of the path taken when the limb is moved.... Show more

When comparing the 20 and 40 degree angles, the error was almost doubled in the dominant arm

Overall, it was seen that the non dominant arms of the subjects had better accuracy in replicating
the target positions based on proprioceptive feedback, especially when it came to larger scale
movements. These findings are similar to other research, but more is still needed to fully
comprehend the difference between dominant and non dominant limbs in regards to proprioception

The Effects Of Toys And Media On Children
From this lesson, I would like to learn the degree of effects toys and media can have on children.
I was not very aware of the different effects Disney can have on children, but I have always
known that educational games are better. I am also able to identify the effects active or violent
toys can have on boys, and from this lesson, I became more aware of the different side effects on
girls. For example, when little girls collect Barbie dolls, movies and other toys related to Disney,
they have a possibility not to accept their bodies when they become teenagers. It also helps me
realize that everyone around me including myself is or was influence by the media. However, the
outcomes can be different depending on how people manage media. It was interesting to realize
how people become influenced by media. At first, the parents, including myself, buy toys to create
an environment for children to move, interact and learn independently. As they grow older, the
independence they developed as children will allow them to choose their own toys. Parents can be
proud looking at their little children becoming independent not only at home but also in the market
place. For parents that need to deal with Barbies or violent toys for boys, little do they know of
what can develop behind their admiration. Once children develop an identity towards Disney
anything their parents buy them will not be good enough and be old fashioned to them. Also,
parents start feeling left out. For example, they

John Smith Vs William Bradford
John Smith and William Bradford, both early colonial governors, were two writers from the same
time period. They each had their own distinct styles of writing that portrayed their differences in
personalities. Smith was a strong minded and action driven person, while Bradford was a thinker
and who took action with care. In their writings it is obvious they have noticeable personalities.
They use different ways of painting images in the reader s mind by using distinct vocabulary and
writingstyles. One difference the two had in their writings was that Smith wrote in blunt and strict
way, his soldier side of his personality came out in his writing. While Bradford wrote in a very

The Effect Of Temperature On Blood Pressure And Heart Rate
Teacher s Instruction:
Design a lab that will examine a factor that affects blood pressure and heart rate.
Research Question:
What is the effect of temperature on blood pressure and heart rate?
Introduction:
Blood transports nutrients, oxygen, carbon dioxide, hormones, antibodies, urea and heat through
our body. The heartis transports blood by pumping it through blood vessels.
Blood flows from areas of high pressure to areas of low pressure. The pressure of blood in the
circulatory system is a value called blood pressure (mmHg: millimeters of mercury ), which is
measured by two numbers: systolic pressure and diastolic pressure. The systolic number is the
pressure in the arteries when the heart beats (when the heart muscle contracts), while the diastolic
number is pressure in the arteries between heartbeats (when the heart muscle is resting between
beats and refilling with blood). The ideal blood pressure is 120/80 mmHg.
Heart rate on the other hand is the number of times (in one minute) that the heart beats or contracts.
A heart rate can be anywhere between 60 and 100 beats per minute.
This experiment will involve five individuals putting their left hand in different samples of water
of varying temperatures. Their blood pressure and heart rate will be recorded before the
experiment, and after each water trial, to determine the effect it has on both the blood pressure and
heart rate.
Variables:

Japan lies between four tectonic plates: Philippine plate, Pacific plate and Eurasian plate. It was
between these plates that caused the whole monstrosity in Kobe. Normally, the Earth s crust is
broken up into pieces called plates. Heat rising and falling inside the mantle creates convection
currents generated by radioactive decay in the core. The convection currents move the plates.
Where convection currents diverge near the Earth s crust, plates move apart. Where convection
currents converge, plates move towards each other. The movement of the plates, and the activity
inside the Earth, is called plate tectonics.
Plate tectonics cause earthquakes and volcanoes. Earthquakes and volcanoes are most likely to
occur either on or near plate boundaries. However, these plates could not carry out the means of
convection currents;
When convection currents cannot take place pressure builds up and the result of the amounted
pressure is an earthquake or volcanoes. The pressure of the four plates was of 50 years worth and
was bound to erupt. When convection currents cannot take place and the plates cannot move is
what cause such eruptions as pressure has been building up beneath the subduction zone.
The Earthquake took place on Tuesday 17th January 1995, at 5:40 am. Japan has a population of

  • 2. Eurocentric Misconceptions Against Eurocentrism Eurocentric attitudes constantly place itself at the forefront of our understandings of the world. Western civilization examines dance within the binary of the opposite. As a consequence, non European artists and/or marginalized forms of dance experience great difficulty in merely existing within the Eurocentric agenda. African danceserves as just one example of a form of dance that struggles to find a position on the world stage. In this paper, I engage in an exploration of the question If possible, how can African dance exist without being compared to or said to be against Eurocentrism? In this paper, I argue we must decolonize African dance so that African dance can exists purely as a dance, away from Eurocentric misconceptions of Africa... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The use of Tap dancing in a contemporary African piece, not only challenges the audience to define European and African dance but also forces the audience to relearn XXX. As a result, African dance becomes difficult to explain. The piece is neither traditional African dance, even though the music is traditional African music, nor is it European, even though Gestes DГ©/LibГ©rГ©s incorporates ballet and tap dancing. • 4. Homelessness In America A growing problem in America is homeless families. Most families that are homeless have at least one or two children. Being homeless as a child can have severe effects on that child s education and development. Homeless children may have trouble focusing in class not only because they were not able to do the homework, but also because they may not have had enough to eat or a decent place to sleep, and they may be emotionally overwhelmed by the upheavals in their personal lives ( Over One Million U.S. Kids are Homeless ). Many things can contribute to homelessness, for instance; poverty, lack of affordable housing, job loss, economic insecurity, etc. America needs to stabilize shelters, move homeless people into permanent housing, execute assistance programs to help people maintain their housing, and expand local government support for the development of affordable housing units. Homeless shelters do already exist in America, but most are filthy and are invaded with bedbugs and body lice. Most large homeless shelters do not have proper ventilation, causing it to get extremely hot during the summer. Even though families do stay in these shelters, it is unsafe and gross. Homeless shelters in America are mostly funded from donations, meaning that homeless shelters do not have very large funds. Therefore, homeless shelters should be funded by the government. With the proper funding, shelters could be properly built and be able to maintain cleanliness. If homeless shelters ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. What To Teach Summary And Analysis 1.What are some critical factors in your decisions about what to teach? In my opinion the critical factors in determining my decisions about what to teach include the standards, and curriculum; but most importantly my students. My students are the ones who I am teaching so they are most significant. Their cultures backgrounds, prior math classes, and etc. determine my decisions on what is the most effective approach for them to understand the material. It is vital to know what your students know and what you intended to teach them in order to effectively plan a lesson. Therefore this goes along with my belief that if you do not know the students then you cannot effectively teach them. 2.How will you keep students focused during your lessons?... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Majority of students come in with pre conceived notions that math is boring or that they are incapable of doing it. Therefore I plan on changing the students mindset by planning interactive activities and lessons. I am not sure what exactly that will look like on a day to day basis right now. However I see that as having activities that get them up and moving or having an active role in the learning process. I think that my movement about the classroom will allow for me to monitor students staying on task. I have already been practicing the look (or eye) and my proximity to students in the classroom. I also think that breaking up lessons that may seem repetitive or mundane will also allow students to be engaged. This may look like them standing up and working problems out, having students come to the board or stations around the room. I am excited to use the many methods we have learned in order to keep students engaged and focused during my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Existentialism and the Power and the Glory Traditionally, Christian literary works are set in an idealized Christian reality, based upon values sourced from scripture. In this reality, the Deus ex Machina is strictly literal, admitting at any needed time a supernatural element to the story which, in all functionality, serves as miracle, in either pivot of the plot or in character arc. It s a clichГ© of storytelling that has become heavily condescended by readers and critics because it leaves little challenge, application, or relation to both the characters in the story and the impact it makes on the audience. They re experiences that a normal individual could never expect to have, leading many to frustration and confusion. Graham Greene plants The Power and the Glory firmly in reality, and while we still may find his character s experiences outside of likelihood in context of our own, they remain realistic. They doubt God for good reason, and for the same reason they believe. Their inner struggles are complex and anchored with honesty. The easy path is not taken here. The Power and the Glory is set in revolutionary Mexico, in a time of persecution and political turmoil. Poverty and crime is rampant, common liberties are threatened, and the hearts of everyone are heavy. The transgressions Greene s characters experience already exceed most of our own, helping us see our common struggles in a more legitimate, harsh light. They more than ever have reason to be discouraged, and anything that can turn their calloused ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Issues Of Contemporary Law Enforcement October 09, 2014 MEMORANDUM FOR SENATOR JANE DOE FROM:KIMBERLY EMERSON SUBJECT:Issues in Contemporary Law Enforcement Senator Doe, first off I would like to congratulation you on your appointment to the Committee on Crime and Criminal Justice. This memo has been created to give you background knowledge in the contemporary issues in law enforcement in the United States. There are three levels of law enforcement, the federal level, the state level and the local level. Each of these levels is very different and comprised of different departments held within. The jobs they do together make up an important conglomeration, as they are our countries first line of defense. They provide us with homeland security, investigate crimes, arrest offenders, and also provide detention and correction supervision. They provide us with crime prevention assistance and help to ensure the general public safety of our citizens. On the federal level, as of today, there are 65 different federal agencies and each agency provides its own degree of defense support depending on, its mission, what it oversees at the federal level and its jurisdiction. • 11. Fees For High School Sports Sports in conjunction with academics are capable of creating a balance that makes for a well rounded citizen and healthy, happy employee. Issues in the mix often come from the balance itself. Many students find themselves overcommitted to sport while others find they are not able to compete. I will examine issues in interscholastic and collegiate sport. Sports cannot always be completely free due to issues outside the realm of sport, but it should be as inexpensive as possible to participate. Fees for high school sports should follow certain guidelines. First off, there should always be a minimum cost sport option for high school students. For example, any student should be allowed to participate in track and cross country since these sports require little to no equipment and have little limits on team size. Second, high schools should not make a net profit or loss on sports. High school sports should act as their own entities with their own funding from the school board, and they should never take from academics and vice versa. Third, different costs for sports should be controlled vehemently before charging fees to play. There should be no more than 1 paid coach per team, and if there is more than 1 paid coach, there should be no fees to play the sport since only one experienced coach should be needed to share knowledge with the entire team and volunteer coaches. Other controllable costs include equipment. Sports equipment and jerseys should be used for as long as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The High School Student Program Choice is a luxury most in rural China cannot afford but, as a 16 year old girl who had just arrived to the United States, the myriad of choices that lay before me was extremely awesome. I equated the impressive array of choice in terms related to good fortune or even wealth, and this beginning would serve as the impetus to my achievements in this country thus far. But, what compelled me to leave my home and family, and travel alone to this country, was to become educated. Where I am from in China, educationseems almost to be a type of magic that can only be wished for; it is elusive to most. I recognized that education lay at the core of opportunity, and if I focused and worked hard I could one day share the good fortune of choice as well as the magic that only education can inspire others, both here as well as in China. I arrived to the U.S. as a high schooljunior under the J 1 Visa, Secondary SchoolStudent Program and had the privilege to have stayed in Virginia with a family headed by parents who are both school teachers. Upon completion, I obtained an F 1 student visa and completed my senior year in 2011 at a rural boarding school in northeast Georgia. Upon arriving to Drexel University (Drexel) as a freshman I had already decided that my future professional life would, in some way, be in education. After transferring to New York University (NYU) as a junior, I would choose a degree in economics, which I felt to be fundamental in terms of my aspirations as a leader ... • 14. Essay on Friday Night Lights by Buzz Bissinger Athletics last for such a short period of time. It ends for people. But while it lasts, it creates this make believe world where normal rules don t apply. We build this false atmosphere. When it s over and the harsh reality sets in, that s the real joke we play on people (Bissinger xiv). Friday Night Lights shows the darker side of high school football. Players are taught to play games to win, and thats all that matters. Football players are put under a tremendous amount of pressure, almost enough to be considered unfair. Even though football is a team sport , pressure on individual players is unnecessary. Some players have the burden of the team, the city, their family, and their future, resting on their shoulders. All Boobie wants is to have a career in football, and now ruins his own dreams. He has made himself his own worst enemy and ruined the only thing he was prepared for in life. Boobie also experiences harsh pressure from his uncle, L.V. Some who knew L.V. thought he had pushed Boobie too much, wasn t living for him as much as he was living though him (Bissinger 61). Boobie even admits his uncle pushes him too hard (Bissinger 63). L.V. pressures Boobie because he himself never got the chance to play high school football, so now he can force Boobie to experience everything he wants. L.V. treats Boobie s life as his own, which makes Boobie stress about his game and his life being just how his uncle wants it to be. He wants to exceed his standards and be better than his uncle ever thought he could possibly be. Boobie also plays for his uncle because he believes that football is the way to repay him for everything he has done for him. That attempt did not completely hide the evidence so their faces were burned with sulfuric acid, to prevent recognition, and put in another mineshaft. After both failed attempts, Yurovsky s men resorted to digging a grave for the bodies (Cavendish). After an investigation in 1991, a mass grave was found in an open field only a few kilometers away from the mineshaft. The first grave found contained only 9 of the 11 missing bodies (Coble). Food was also another factor of the plazas that people enjoyed. People would sell food in carts at the plaza, people found them attracting as it was a good place to stop by if they were to have gotten hungry. People even socialized around these food places in the plaza. Another topic that was talked about was the scale of the place. The scale was important because some places were very spacious, however, there would be no people there. The very first item that caught my attention as I entered was a line of racks for coat hangers. Normally they would not be one of the first objects an audience would notice in the house. The actors naturally guided the audience to hang their coats on the hangers. As I went further into the space, I realized the audience seats did not face the stage; the platform in which performance usually takes place on was veiled by black curtains, visually creating a wall. This creation of the new wall yet did not induce me to raise a question on where the actors would act; its answer was evidently shown. The house was stripped down to a bare, flat ground, encircled by the audience chairs. I did not see any specially raised platform that highlighted any actors presence. Nor did I see any decorative set design, apart from two pillars and a bench in between, which distinctly differentiated the acting region from the spectator region. I did see a blue tape on the ground that physically defined the stage area. However, sitting in the front row, the tape mark was so close that I could easily step on it. Meanwhile, instead of preparing themselves at the backstage for the play to start, the actors walked around and interacted with the audience members through informal conversation. Horizontal and Vertical intergration Length: 752 words (2.1 double spaced pages) Rating: Red (FREE) The Meaning of Vertical and Horizontal Integration Horizontal integration is where an organisation owns two or more companies, on the same level of the buying chain. An example of this is the First Choice Group; they own First Choice Travel Agency and First Choice Hypermarket, both of which are on the same level of the buying chain. The advantage of horizontal integration is that it can increase the company s market share. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the travel agent doesn t wish to accept the offer, they may lose a lot of business, as they are not selling as many products, to cater for the customers needs. Independent travel agents are being seriously affected by integration, big companies such as First Choice, are controlling the amount of commission travel agents receive. They are also losing commission as tour operators and airlines are selling their products and services direct on the Internet. Older customers still prefer to use high street travel agents as they may not know how to use the Internet or would like the reassurance of booking in person. Travel agents are having to change to meet the needs of the customer, and are turning to the niche market to make commission. Airlines have also been affected by integration, British Airways wanted to merge with American Airlines, but IATA declined their proposal, as they would be able to dominate the pricing of transatlantic flights from the UK. Horizontal and vertical integration has reduced competition within the industry, as more organisations are buying each other out to expand due to the demand that is being received from the public for their products and services. Companies that are integrating are able to set the price, and smaller companies such as Collette Worldwide Holidays, will be unable to compete. The risk that larger ... Recording Guitar And A Dynamic Cardioid Microphone Recording guitar is rarely ever as easy as sloppily plopping down whatever mic s handy at the moment in front of the speaker grille and hitting record. Majority would even argue that mic choice and placement only play bit parts in a larger production that involves pre amps, guitar amps, cable length, A/D D/A converters, tracking through a console clean vis a vis applying processing going in, and of course, the choice of guitaritself! Instead of writing a fully comprehensive work (and a very, very long discussion and debate), this article aims to address some basic guitar micing technique using a dynamic cardioid microphone(such as the venerable SM57) and a condenser (such as a Neumann u87). 1 mic technique If the situation calls for using one microphone, you can position your dynamic mic either as close to the speaker grille cloth as possible (less ambiance) or 3 6 inches away, either pointing to the center of the cone or off axis. Listen through your monitors how the speaker sounds like, and change cones if you aren t satisfied (as in the case of a marshall 4x12). Once you ve decided on which cone to record, fine tune the guitar sound by angling the mic towards or away from the center of the cone as it makes a difference in the tone coming into your recording. A condenser is generally placed a bit farther because of its higher sensitivity (and in some cases, lower clipping point with regard to SPL handling). 2 mic technique Applying the technique above, one may ... • 26. Socially Engaged Arts, Or Sea Essay Socially Engaged Art. Definition. There exists a cornucopia of terminology when it comes to activism realized through the arts. Among them are: social practice (which circumvents the method of engagement); socially engaged art ; arts activism ; social justice art ; community based art ; etc. (Dewhurst, 2010; Helguera, 2011). Although many of these terms can be used interchangeably, for the sake of consistency this paper will refer to this practice as socially engaged arts, or SEA. As Dewhurst aptly outlines, Despite these various names, this work often shares a commitment to create art that draws attention to, mobilizes action towards, or attempts to intervene in systems of inequality or injustice (2010, p.1). Platt (2010) places singular emphasis on the artist who is committed to engaging contemporary political issues...convinced of the urgent necessity to use the power of art...to make visible what is kept invisible... (p. xiv). The work of the participants of SEA is one half to a whole for creating arts, the other half being the audience participation and feedback. As Shank (2004) alleges, the two main strategies for presenting SEA to audiences are targeting powerful organizations and constituents, or powerless organizations and constituents (p. 539). Platt s vision of the lone artist is better utilized for global exposure with powerful audiences to react to injustices made visible, however this paper will focus primarily on engaging audiences who are marginalized. ... Researchers such as Edwards, Duberg, and many more have found countless mental and emotional benefits of dance that originate from movement patterns, brain connections, and even expressions of emotion. Many are aware of the physical benefits of dance, but beyond the physical benefits of dance, there are also emotional and mental benefits that come from dance as well. The sense of agenda setting has been deeply accepted by the public a long time ago. In 1992, Walter Lippmann (1992), a newspaper columnist, argued that the mass mediahas the ability to produce images of events that can be present to the public. Since 1948, Lazarsfeld and Metton (1948) acknowledged that the function of the press to give specific status upon events it emphasizes. This diversity brings substantial potential benefits such as better decision making, greater creativity and innovation, and more successful marketing to different types of customers. But, increasing cultural differences within a workforce also bring potential costs in higher turnovers, interpersonal conflicts, and communicational breakdowns. The utilities of diversity training and the essential managerial skills required for effectively managing diversity will also be discussed. Kanter s study of innovation in organizations revealed that the most innovative companies deliberately establish heterogeneous teams to create a marketplace of ideas, recognizing that a multiplicity of points of view needs to be brought to bear on a problem . Kanter also specifically noted that companies high on innovation had done a better job than most on eradicating racism, sexism, and classism, in addition, tended to employ more women and racioethnic minorities than less innovative companies. Research by Charlene J. Nemeth found that minority views can stimulate consideration of non obvious alternatives in task groups. Nemeth found that the minority groups adopted multiple strategies and identified more solutions than the majority groups. She concluded that the groups exposed to minority views were more creative than the more homogeneous, majority groups. She further concluded that persistent exposure to minority viewpoints stimulates creative thought processes. Another experiment compared the creativity of teams that were homogeneous on a series of attitude measures against teams with heterogeneous attitudes. Problem solution creativity was judged on originality and practicality. Results indicated that as long as the team members had similar ability levels, the heterogeneous teams were more creative than the homogeneous ones. If ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Dream Deferred And Langston Hughes Comparison The novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, A Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes and Hope by Karen Hesse are three bodies of writing that share many similarities in how they use rhetoric to develop overarching themes. First, A Dream Deferred uses personification to get it s theme across. It states What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore And then run? The author first uses a simile and compares a dream that is deferred to a raisin that dry s up and the next line asks whether it festers like a sore and then run which is also a simile and personification because dreams can t run. • 38. Racial Stereotypes Of Asian-Americans Today, when society talks about diversity, often times, Asian Americans are brought into the conversation and are talked about as highly looked up to individuals, but they haven t always been this way. On television, many times, Asian Americans are represented as nerdy and socially incapable/awkward , Asian American males are mostly shown as being weak and stereotypically awkward, while Asian American females are either shown as exotic or also stereotypically awkward and nerdy, as stated by Takaki in his book Strangers from a Different Shore on page 479, Hopeful a college education can help them [the students] overcome racial obstacles, they realize the need to be serious about their studies. But white college students complain: Asian students are nerds. This very stereotype betrays nervousness fears that Asian American students are raising class grade curves. Though, these representations do only account for the three most popular Asian ethnic groups: Japanese, Chinese and Korean. The other Asian ethnic groups are mostly invisible to society, some groups, such as the Vietnamese Americans and the Hmong Americans, are known for their population size. These groups are also the groups that tend to live in areas that are largely populated with the same race, therefore, congregating to one area. A lot of times, I ve realized from personal experience, that when people realize that I am Asian, they tend to compare me with the stereotypes that are generally associated with being Asian American. Often, I am told that I am tall for being Asian as the stereotypes say that Asians females generally are shorter in stature and are petite with light skin and pin straight black hair. On occasion, I am told that I look more Hawaiian than I do Asian due to my darker skin and bigger build. Though, I do hear a lot of comments regarding my eyes and about how little they are. The Evolution Of Allergies On Homo Sapiens Sarah Husted Anth 423 The evolution of allergies in Homo sapiens As of 2008, approximately 25% of people in the developed world suffer from allergic disorders (Galli, Tsai, Piliponsky, 2008). These disorders can be mild, but they can also be severe. Hay fever, asthma, eczema, and anaphylaxis are a few examples of what can be categorized as allergic disorders. The morbidity rates among school aged children in the industrialized world is even higher than in the general population with 40 50% of children susceptible to one or more type of allergy (Pawankar et al., 2011). The pervasiveness of allergies worldwide has risen in the developed world for over 50 years. Many people take medication for their allergies but it can often take years to find a completely effective regime, if ever. For some, allergic disorders can severely disrupt everyday life. With so many suffering from allergies it is no surprise that this area of health has been thoroughly studied. Interestingly enough though, while we do know what happens in the human body during an allergy attack there is still debate as to why we as humans evolved allergic disorders in the first place. If a child fell ill, he was fired unless he kept working. The work force was denied any rights due to the over surplus of labor available. For every one worker available for pennies a day, there were several willing to work for pennies a week. At times there were widespread unemployment, hunger, disease and waves of immigration. Necessities were often scarce and work was a commodity not easily replaced. I was not very aware of the different effects Disney can have on children, but I have always known that educational games are better. I am also able to identify the effects active or violent toys can have on boys, and from this lesson, I became more aware of the different side effects on girls. For example, when little girls collect Barbie dolls, movies and other toys related to Disney, they have a possibility not to accept their bodies when they become teenagers. It also helps me realize that everyone around me including myself is or was influence by the media. However, the outcomes can be different depending on how people manage media. It was interesting to realize how people become influenced by media. At first, the parents, including myself, buy toys to create an environment for children to move, interact and learn independently. As they grow older, the independence they developed as children will allow them to choose their own toys. Parents can be proud looking at their little children becoming independent not only at home but also in the market place. For parents that need to deal with Barbies or violent toys for boys, little do they know of what can develop behind their admiration. Once children develop an identity towards Disney anything their parents buy them will not be good enough and be old fashioned to them. Also, parents start feeling left out. For example, they ... They each had their own distinct styles of writing that portrayed their differences in personalities. Smith was a strong minded and action driven person, while Bradford was a thinker and who took action with care. In their writings it is obvious they have noticeable personalities. • 55. The Effect Of Temperature On Blood Pressure And Heart Rate Teacher s Instruction: Design a lab that will examine a factor that affects blood pressure and heart rate. Research Question: What is the effect of temperature on blood pressure and heart rate? Introduction: Blood transports nutrients, oxygen, carbon dioxide, hormones, antibodies, urea and heat through our body. The heartis transports blood by pumping it through blood vessels. Blood flows from areas of high pressure to areas of low pressure. The pressure of blood in the circulatory system is a value called blood pressure (mmHg: millimeters of mercury ), which is measured by two numbers: systolic pressure and diastolic pressure. The systolic number is the pressure in the arteries when the heart beats (when the heart muscle contracts), while the diastolic number is pressure in the arteries between heartbeats (when the heart muscle is resting between beats and refilling with blood). The ideal blood pressure is 120/80 mmHg. Heart rate on the other hand is the number of times (in one minute) that the heart beats or contracts. A heart rate can be anywhere between 60 and 100 beats per minute. This experiment will involve five individuals putting their left hand in different samples of water of varying temperatures. Their blood pressure and heart rate will be recorded before the experiment, and after each water trial, to determine the effect it has on both the blood pressure and heart rate. Variables: Independent 1.Temperature of water samples Subjects will be put in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Japan lies between four tectonic plates: Philippine plate, Pacific plate and Eurasian plate. It was between these plates that caused the whole monstrosity in Kobe. Normally, the Earth s crust is broken up into pieces called plates. Heat rising and falling inside the mantle creates convection currents generated by radioactive decay in the core. The convection currents move the plates. Where convection currents diverge near the Earth s crust, plates move apart. Where convection currents converge, plates move towards each other. The movement of the plates, and the activity inside the Earth, is called plate tectonics. Plate tectonics cause earthquakes and volcanoes. Earthquakes and volcanoes are most likely to occur either on or near plate boundaries. However, these plates could not carry out the means of convection currents; When convection currents cannot take place pressure builds up and the result of the amounted pressure is an earthquake or volcanoes. The pressure of the four plates was of 50 years worth and was bound to erupt. When convection currents cannot take place and the plates cannot move is what cause such eruptions as pressure has been building up beneath the subduction zone. The Earthquake took place on Tuesday 17th January 1995, at 5:40 am. Japan has a population of 124 million people and a population density of about 310 per square metre! This is an approach to the Jewish custom that points toward a community based decision making through the process of education and concentration of values from traditional Jewish sources. There are known to be four big movements in North American Judaism; Orthodox, Conservative, Reform and coming in at fourth is Reconstructionism. This form of Judaism isn t the largest among the Jewish community in North America but it is well recognized. Just like many teenagers, Matthew rebelled against his upbringing and started to take drugs and dropped out of high school. At that age he was a self proclaimed Phish head . After this phase, Miller took part in a first hand exploration of Jewish heritage. In return, this program was used in a way that helped solidify his Jewish identity. From his strict upbringing to a drug infused teenager, Matisyahu was able to find himself along with his voice. Miller seems to be a coming of age story about a boy who was able to do something different when it came to his Jewish identity. He isn t a rabbi, teacher or scholar. He is an artist. Matisyahu has a modern style when it comes to Judaism. Being a younger guy he is able to reach the young side of Judaism, especially ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
