Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL) proposes to set up 2 million tons per annum
Cement Plant near village Gejamuda, tehsil Raigarh, Chattisgarh. 200 acres of land have
been selected for the plant. The land is mostly single-crop agriculture land. No forest
land is involved in the proposed site. The project cost is about Rs.605 crores. The
proposed site fulfills the guidelines prescribed by the Ministry of Environment and
Forests. The Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India has approved the
Terms of Reference for the Environmental Impact Assessment Study on 28th May 2007
The Department of Environment has approved this faulty EIA submitted by the Power Development Board. The project would be implemented by the governments of Bangladesh and India.
The world has already used her non-renewable resources. It will take 100 of years to recharge. But as Bangladesh is a land of beauty, she has a lot of renewable resources. If all of them can be utilized properly, our dependency on non-renewable resources will be vanished.

Rejects the allegations that the coal-based power plant would adversely affect the world's largest mangrove forest.
The controversy over the power plant and its impact on the Sundarbans was "not based on facts."
The plant will not negatively affect the mangrove forest because the emission of green house gas will be kept at the minimum level
Importing high quality coal, build a 275-meter high chimney.
The water running through it works as a supercritical fluid.
Critical point under high pressures and temperatures, specifically at 22 MPs and 374oC.
Efficiencies can reach around 44%
The Rampal power station is a proposed 1320 megawatt coal-fired power station at Rampal Upazila of Bagerhat District in Khulna, Bangladesh. It is a joint partnership between India's state owned National Thermal Power Corporation and Bangladesh Power Development Board.

UNDERSTANDING WHAT GREEN WASHING IS!.pdfJulietMogola
Many companies today use green washing to lure the public into thinking they are conserving the environment but in real sense they are doing more harm. There have been such several cases from very big companies here in Kenya and also globally. This ranges from various sectors from manufacturing and goes to consumer products. Educating people on greenwashing will enable people to make better choices based on their analysis and not on what they see on marketing sites.

"Understanding the Carbon Cycle: Processes, Human Impacts, and Strategies for...MMariSelvam4
The carbon cycle is a critical component of Earth's environmental system, governing the movement and transformation of carbon through various reservoirs, including the atmosphere, oceans, soil, and living organisms. This complex cycle involves several key processes such as photosynthesis, respiration, decomposition, and carbon sequestration, each contributing to the regulation of carbon levels on the planet.
Human activities, particularly fossil fuel combustion and deforestation, have significantly altered the natural carbon cycle, leading to increased atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations and driving climate change. Understanding the intricacies of the carbon cycle is essential for assessing the impacts of these changes and developing effective mitigation strategies.
By studying the carbon cycle, scientists can identify carbon sources and sinks, measure carbon fluxes, and predict future trends. This knowledge is crucial for crafting policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions, enhancing carbon storage, and promoting sustainable practices. The carbon cycle's interplay with climate systems, ecosystems, and human activities underscores its importance in maintaining a stable and healthy planet.
In-depth exploration of the carbon cycle reveals the delicate balance required to sustain life and the urgent need to address anthropogenic influences. Through research, education, and policy, we can work towards restoring equilibrium in the carbon cycle and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.
5. Rampal Power
Station
The Rampal Power
station is situated in
Rampal Upazila of
Bagerhat district in
Khulna Bangladesh. It
will be the biggest power
station in our country.
6. Project Details
Sponsor: Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company
Pvt. Ltd. (BIFPCL)
Parent company: Bangladesh Power Development
Board, NTPC
Location: Khulna, Bangladesh
Gross Capacity: 1320 MW (2 x 660 MW)
Type: Ultra-Supercritical
Project in service: 2018
7. Financing
o The capital which might be equivalent to US $1.5 billion, will
be taken as bank loans with help from the NTPC.
o India and Bangladesh will fund the remaining 30% equally
(15% each)
8. Agreement
In August 2010, this project was signed between Bangladesh
Power Development Board (BPDB) and India's state-owned
National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC)
On January 29, 2012, the Bangladesh Power Development
Board signed an agreement with NTPC to build the plant
Agreed to implement the project by 2016.
The BPDB and the NTPC agreed to implement the project
on a 50:50 equity basis.
The NTPC will set up and operate the plant
9. Government position
• The government of Bangladesh rejects the
allegations would adversely affect the world’s
largest mangrove forest.
• Importing high quality coal, build a 275 meters
high chimney, Use high art technology
10. Environment Issue
• Construction of power plant at Rampal the ecosystem will be
largely affected due to traffic movements, oil and chemical
spillage and dredging.
• The project will use deep tube wells and water of the Posur
River for washing coal, which will push ground level water
down and will completely destroy the ecosystem of the river
(The EIA report prepared by Dr. Abdullah Harun )
• Transferring activities, shipping and barging activities at
Akram point will generate noise create disturbance to the
wildlife of the Sundarban.
11. • Different types of wastes like the residue of the coal, ballast
water, bilge water, oil etc produced from the Ships will be
discharged to the river system and these will pollute the
environment.
• Ballast water, oil spillage and coal dropping might affect
on Mangrove plants.
12. According to the (WHC)
• The Sundarban’s
mangrove forest is the
habitat of a wide range of
flora;334 Flora species
and 693 fauna species
• 315 species of waterfowl, raptors
and nine species of kingfisher
and the magnificent white bellied
sea eagle. The area is habitat or
the Royal Bengal tiger and other
threatened species,such as the
estuarine crocodile and the
Indian python.
• If Rampal power Station came
into reality these species will die
or go away.
13. We will get light by killing and
push away our pride Sudarban’s
Natural beauty and precious
animals
14. Resolve
• We are not against the project but against building of the
power plant in Rampal. The project can be transferred
anywhere else, far from the Sundarban to protect it . The
experts and environmentalists are really worried about the
Rampal. A great number of concerned people are protesting
against this project.
• The government itself is violating environment law by
constructing coal-based power plant at Rampal .

The EIA report prepared by Dr. Abdullah Harun also shows that the project will draw around 25,000 cubic metres of water every day, which is really a threat for the environment.
