9. Purpose of the Project
To prevent the electricity problem of our country is the
main objective to build up Rampal power station.
Rampal project is one of the best coal-based plants the
Government has decided to build across the country to
meet the growing electricity demand.

10. Agreement
 In August 2010 ,this project was signed between Bangladesh
Power Development Board ( BPDB) and India’s state-own
National Thermal power Corporation (NTPC)
 On January 29,2012, the Bangladesh Power Development
Board signed an Agreement with NTPC to build the plant
Agree to implement the project by 2016.
 The BPDB and the NTPC agreed to implement the project on a
50-50 equity basis
 The NTPC will set up and operate the plant

11. Financing
o The Capital which might be equivalent US $1.5
billion, will be taken as bank loans with help from the
National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (NTPC )
o India and Bangladesh will find the remaining 30%
equally ( 15% each )

12. Government Position
 The Government of Bangladesh rejects the
allegations would adversely affect the world’s largest
mangroves forest
 Important high quality coal, build a 275 maters high
chimney , Use high art technology

13. Citizen’s opinion
 Environmental experts
have expressed concerns
that the proposed plant
at Rampal in Bagerhat
could destroy
Sundarban, one of the
world’s largest mangrove
forests. Faridul Islam,
chief coordinator of Save
the Sundarbans, pointed
out that the selected
location of the project
was only nine kilometres
from Sundarban

14. Environmental Issue
 Construction of Power Plant at Rampal the ecosystem
will be largely affected due to traffic movements, oil
and chemical spillage and dredging
 The project will use deep tube wells and water of the
Posur River for washing coal, which will push ground
level water down and will completely destroy the
ecosystem of the river
 Transferring activities, shipping and barging activities
at Akram point will generate noise create disturbance
to the wildlife of the sundarban

The forest has a unique biota comprising:
 334 species of plants
 49 species of mammals
 400 species of Fish
 320 species of birds
 53 species of reptiles
 11 amphibian species
 The Home of famous Royal Bengal Tiger
 About 30000 beautiful spotted deer live in sundarban
 At least 37 species of ‘obligate’ mangrove plants, 127 species of euryhalinefish,
a total of 1287 animal species comprising 873 invertebrates, 1 species of
Hemichordate, and 413 species of vertebrates.
 450 rivers including Boleshawr, Raymongol and posur
