“recreation to disadvantaged clients:
the poor, persons with physical or
mental disabilities, etc.” (Lunn, 2021).
The park is open to anyone and allows
everyone to enjoy and practice a
healthy lifestyle. There are many
activities that everyone can participate
in such as swimming, playing on the
jungle gym, and baseball.
4. Queen Elizabeth Park

This park is open to everyone and
“provide[s] recreation that because of its
nature continually reinforces values and
ideals of establishing and maintaining a
healthy lifestyle to the user” (Lunn, 2021).
Relates to recreation as there are
basketball courts that are free for all
people to enjoy. Also, promotes a healthy
lifestyle by including areas for people to
exercise and an outdoor hockey rink.
5. Sunset Community Center

Public Service Sector
The center is open year-round and encourages
“fitness, sport, age-related programs, events,
arts, leadership, etc.” and “public good” (Lunn,
2020, p. 3).
Sunset is an example of recreation because the
municipal government has created an area where
everyone can enjoy activities for little to no cost.
Activities such as summer camps,
basketball /soccer/volleyball open-gyms, day-care,
and the weight-room are open for the community.
7. YMCA Vancouver

Commercial Sector
Every member must have a membership or
pay a fee to use the facility. The owner
makes profit from the money brought in by
consumers (MacLean, Peterson, & Martin,
1985 as cited by Lunn, 2021).
This facility is an example of recreation
and coaching as there are many open-gym
sessions that allow people to exercise as
well as personal trainers and lessons such
as swimming lessons.
8. 6 Pack Beach

Commercial Sector
Everyone who seeks to play sports on
the sand must pay money which goes
to the owner. Also, this is an example
of indoor commercial recreation and
targets a specific group (Lunn, 2021).
6 pack is mostly recreational as they
provide space to play beach volleyball,
soccer, and archery tag.
9. Cineplex Cinema Marine
Gateway and VIP
Address: 452 SW Marine Dr, Vancouver, BC

Commercial Sector
Cineplex is an example of an indoor
commercial recreation service that includes
entertainment and food services (Lunn,
2021). New movies are available for
consumers at a price.
Cineplex is recreational as consumers must
pay to watch movies and have fun. Also,
there are other activities such as an arcade
and certain fun games that also must be
purchased.
11. Apex Volleyball Club

Sector: Volunteer
Falls under the voluntary sector as
“they rely on the efforts of members
and volunteers for sustained survival”
(Lunn, 2021). Coaches and managers
do not get paid and purely work as
volunteers.
Apex volleyball falls under coaching as
there are teams from 13 years up to 18
years old that are coached. Coaches
evaluate athletes at tryouts and pick
the team.
12. Westside Warrior
Football

Sector: Volunteer
The Westside Warriors are an example of
a voluntary service sector as they have
relied on the community and the voluntary
actions of others (Lunn, 2021). This non-
profit club offers training camps and
teams for children to enjoy.
This is related to coaching as every
activity it offers has to do with learning
and teaching. They have teams that start
from age 9 all they way up to 18 years
old. Many of the coaches have college
and/or professional football experience.
13. Fraser Valley Volleyball
Club

Service Sector: Voluntary
They provide organized sports through the
help of volunteers (Lunn, 2021). They rely
on the help of parents and family to help
score games and bring food for athletes.
Coaches and managers are all volunteers.
This is an example of coaching as there are
many teams that athletes have to tryout
for. Coaches make the rosters based on
what they see. The coaches work with their
athletes for months leading up to a national
championship. The standard schedule is 3
practices a week with 2-day tournaments
every couple of weekends.
