Arguments On Inequality In Society
Division has been human nature since time immemorial. The clash of different groups based purely on
their difference has been part of our nature since the days of the Sumerians. This conflict has always
been an issue in society, plaguing nations and dividing communities. However, with modern
innovation, many believe that we have overcome inequality, citing the rise of new arguments for
equality and a more conciliatory outlook arising from activists. There is another faction, however, that
argues that inequality is part of human nature and has been and will be around for the entire existence
of the human race, due to its intrinsic nature and the subtle restrictions of freedoms that plague this
nation.
This latter argument finds support in the rhetoric and actions of both antiquity and the present.
Frederick Douglass in a speech about modern civil liberties mentioned the Babylonian captivity, in
which the captured Jews sat and... Wept for Zion a symbol of the oppression humans have experienced
ever since [Source C]. Douglass is alluding to how people have been mistreated and brutalized by
those unlike them since times before Jesus; this is invariable human nature, and with time all society
reverts back to it. The Babylonians mistreated the Jews thousands of years ago because of their race.
We say that we have overcome these biases in our modern world, yet comedians still joke about
Jewish peoples in the media. This and similar struggles in our nation cannot be considered

Galileo s Accomplishments
Galileo Galilei, best known for his advances in astronomy (specifically, his improvements of the
telescope), has also invented and improved many other commonly known items, such as the pendulum
clock and the thermometer.
In 1593, Galileo created a thermometer that relied on the expanding and contracting of air to push
water up and down a clear tube. Since hot air takes up a larger volume than cold air, the higher the
temperature is, the higher the water level is in the tube. The clear tube can be marked at intervals to
show what the temperature is, even though there would be no universal unit to measure heat for
another century.
One of Galileo s inventions is the pendulum clock. In 1602, Galileo recorded his observation that a
pendulum has a constant period. He then tested this hypothesis and came up with the conclusion that it
is true. 39 years later, Galileo came up with the idea that the pendulum could be used to keep track of
time. Since the pendulum had a constant period, Galileo used the swing of the pendulum to lift a pawl
, which allows a gear to turn for a certain amount, until the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Instead, Galileo improved the magnification of the spyglass and used it to look at the sky, creating the
telescope. At that time, the spyglass could only magnify objects to three times their original size.
Galileo refined the lens, allowing it to magnify things up to first eight, then later, in 1610, 30 times
their original size. By using this telescope, he was able to observe the movement of objects in the sky,
such as stars and planets, that supported the Copernicus s theory of heliocentrism that the sun was the
center of the universe. He also found that the moon was not completely smooth, as most people at the
time assumed it would be. Instead, it had was bumpy and had hills and

Mac Os Classic Has Its Shortcomings Essay
Since the first Macintosh operating system, System 1, back in 1984 there has been 15 major versions
issued. System 1 was the beginning point of the GUI based systems made available to the market. No
longer relying on the text command line, it relied on the user manipulation of the GUI and mouse.
However, the Mac OS Classic had its shortcomings. According to Jonathan Levin (2012), Memory
management was poor, however, and multitasking was cooperative, which by today s standards is
considered primitive. Cooperative multitasking involves process voluntarily yielding their CPU
timeslice, and works reasonably well when processes are well behaved (p. 3,4). This wasn t always the
case and any process malfunction would shut down the system. System 3, released in 1986 introduced
File System Hierarchy, storing files in a tree like directory that is currently common on all operating
systems today. It also was the first system to have Disk Cache that kept regularly used commands in
the memory that sped up operations. There were several minor versions in between System 3 until
System 7. System 7 was released in 1991 and it made use of a hard drive instead of a floppy disk that
was too limited in size. It also had virtual memory that used free space on the hard drive as random
access memory (RAM). Mac OS 7.6, released in 1997, was the first version to use the Mac OS instead
of System in it naming scheme. Mac OS 7.6 and Mac OS 8.0 released also in 1997, where very

Symbolism Of Fire In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
Fire, in today s society, is used for several different reasons including warmth, cooking, and
destruction while prescription glasses have mainly one purpose, to help aid in eyesight. But for Piggy,
the most rational of the group, and Ralph, the leader of all the kids, fire and a pair of bifocals are
solely used for survival. Jack on the other hand, who is the leader of the savages, uses fire to harm and
control others around him. Lord of the Flies by William Golding acquires an elaborate way to develop
deeper meanings of each of the symbols especially fire and Piggy s glasses. The symbolic meaning of
fire is demonstrated throughout the book in many different fashions but mainly it is portrayed as a
symbol of life and social order. If ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now that Jack is the new leader, he became increasingly greedy and mean and exiled Ralph and Piggy
from the rest of the group and left them with nothing, except the symbolic origin of fire, Piggy s
glasses. But instead of using fire to divide the group they really needed everyone to come together to
create a controlled fire so they can get off the island. While Ralph and Piggy were away Jack tried to
create a signal fire, but instead he created a bonfire that ended up burning a quarter of the island down.
Piggy walks up to Jack and told him (because he was mad): You got your small fire all right. ...the
boys were falling still and silent, feeling the beginnings of awe at the power set free below them (55).
Jack knew they needed a fire, but in reality Jack did not understand how destructive a fire can be, and
ended up killing one of the members of the group with the fire he started. With the group divided and
life in danger, the symbolic meaning of fire is displayed in this quote because it demonstrates the order
and or chaos that is on the island and how nearly all of the social structure on the island could be lost
as quickly as the time it takes to snap Piggy s glasses in half. The symbol of Piggy s Glasses is
illustrated in many different ways, such as structure and civilization. When Piggy first got onto the
island, he looked at it

Mental Cases And Disabled Essay
The price the survivors of war pay is through the loss of their own bodies and minds. In Wilfred Owen
s poems Mental Cases, and Disabled, the aftermath the devastating effect war has on the people who
participate in it is shown through the pitying voice of an outside speaker. Mental Cases, focuses on the
psychological trauma, showing soldiers who suffer from PTSD and shell shock. Disabled, focuses on
the physical trauma of the soldiers by describing one soldier who has lost his legs and is permanently
disfigured, rendering him unable to enjoy the rest of his life. The psychological trauma of war
portrayed in Mental Cases, is conveyed through the chilling, almost hellish, diction used. The

enlist in the army. No competent human being would purposely throw away their knees or even pour
their own blood down shell holes. Yet the final irony of the poem is that when the soldier volunteered
he purposely gave up all these things. The price of admission into the war was his legs and the rest of

extreme thirst for adventure. Although his father was born into the Baggins family, which life consist
of normal hobbit behavior. Bilbo is torn between following his adventurous pursuits or continuing to

Bilbo s mixed heritage in many ways. Gandalf is trying to convince Bilbo to join him on a journey to
the lonely mountain to recover the stolen gold. Although bilbo s answer is split by his family s

One literary device used in J.R.R Tolkien s The Hobbit is Foreshadowing. The fact that the protagonist
bilbo has split heritages makes it obvious that by the end of the story he has to choose one. In The
Hobbit, Bilbo states Sorry! I don t want any adventures, thank you. Not Today. Good morning! But
please come to tea any time you like! Why not tomorrow? Good bye! (Tolkien 6). Bilbo does not want
to go on a journey. Gandalf and the dwarves asking Bilbo to follow them on the journey to recover the

African Americans And Reconstruction
America went to great lengths to pursue happiness, but was set back by the election of 1876. Due to
the destruction after the Civil war, a plan to reconstruct was in motion while also welcoming millions
of slaves as american citizens. Due mostly to the South s actions, reconstruction was killed by 1877.
White southerners often challenged reconstruction with violence. Africans who tried to gain political

Analysis Of The Movie I re Your Problem Annie
You re your problem Annie, and you re also your solution, is something surprisingly deep from the R
rated Comedy Bridesmaids (1:37:13). This movie is about a girl, Annie, who along with falling on
hard times has to plan her best friend, Lillian s wedding while dealing with a crazy group of
bridesmaids: Helen, the rich perfectionist, Rita, the mother who hates her three boys, Becca, the newly
wed, and Megan, the overtalkative nutcase. Bridesmaids has a lot of truths about money, success, and
overall happiness. The main themes of the movie are that money will not always make someone happy
and that money does not make anyone better than anyone else. With those themes there are also a lot
of comparisons that could be made with the movie including how Helen, the very rich, and Annie, the
very poor, constantly struggle to prove who would be a better maid of honor, and how Annie could be
an embodiment of the struggles millennials faced during and after the stock market collapse.
Two characters that really show that money does not buy happiness: Megan and Rhodes, a cop who
becomes Annie s love interest. Megan is a very interesting character in this movie because while she is
very odd she really has her life put together. She was able to overcome the obstacles that she talked
about with Annie and how she loves what she does (1:35:54 1:36:24). While Megan does make a lot
of money, she would most certainly be happy without and be able to have a fulfilled life as long as she

Relationship Between Wealth And Happiness
Does wealth equal happiness?
According to the novel Great Expectation by Charles Dickens, the correlation between wealth and
happiness is debatable, depending on the person and their lifestyle. For example, Herbet viewed
money as a blessing but not something that necessarily brings him happiness; however, for Pip he can
never have enough money and it is his idea of happiness. Herbert was born wealthy so in his state of
mind it is casual to have exceptional amount of money. When Pip transform to a gentleman and went
from being poor to wealthy, he suddenly wants things he never wanted before. With Pip being newly
exposed to a vast amount of money, it brought him a grand amount of happiness because it is
something he was not use to obtaining. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the benefactor he lost control and waste it the second he got his hands on it. He spended all so
fast and abused all that he had.
The perspective of money varies for both Herbert and Pip. The income that Herbert receives is good
enough for him and even exceeds his expectation. He feels that money does bring happiness into his
life, but money is not necessary to be happy. In Pip s perspective, money is a pathway to greatness and
is necessary in order to obtain a sense of happiness. As soon as Pip was able to get his hand on money,
he took advantage of it which caused him to experience debt. In Chapter 39 the author states, He was a
convict, a few year ago, and is a ignorant common fellow now, for all he s lucky, what do I say? I says
to myself, If I ain t a gentleman, nor yet ain t got no learning, I m the owner of such. All of you owns
stock and land; which on you owns a brought up London gentleman? (Dickens 78). In this scene, it
portrays Magwitch to be very giving with his money since he is Pip s benefactor. Magwitch is giving
him his money to Pip because he feel bad of what happened in the past, Pip gave his food to
Magwitch. However, Magwitch actually tries to use his money to buy the status of a gentleman ,
where Pip understands that money can never purchase the status of a gentleman. Point in the story Pip
is delighted that he is a gentleman now due to his upgraded

Rabbit Proof Fence Essay On Racism
Rabbit Proof Fence is a movie which shows how aboriginal people are mistreated and about the ups
and downs of life and how life can be unfair due to the conduct of human beings in the means of
Ethnicity, Nation, Racism and Conflict. This whole movie shows a disgraceful and ugly part of the
Australian History.
The movie Rabbit Proof Fence, demonstrate the terrible nature of the cruelty suffered by aboriginal
families because of the white Australians and the politicians. During the early years of the 20th
century the white Australians passed a rule that required pure blooded quarter castes and half castes
Aboriginal offspring s to be removed from their families and their land and to be raised and mixed
with the white Australian community. According to them, they removed these aboriginal children from

They told that by fitting into a European lifestyle they would have a better health, including healthy
diet, doctors etc. The White rulers told that this was the best interest of the Aboriginals itself, but their
ultimate motive was to eradicate Aboriginal blood completely and encourage a pure white Australia.
This disastrous, racist policy is now called the Stolen Generation policy . This shows how ignorant
and inhumane the Australian government was.
The 3 little girls, Molly, Daisy and Gracie, who is yet to experience their life, were forcibly taken from
their mothers and sent to the Moore River orphanage camp. They take away these little children away
from their mothers in such a harming manner. The desperate mother is helpless in this situation. This

Analysis Of Didion s On Self Respect
In Didion s emotional yet dominant essay, On Self Respect, found in Slouching Towards Bethlehem,
she defines the true meaning of value to oneself, while indicating that reactions of weakness and
humiliation, based on the approval of bystanders, inhibits true acceptance. Her work was published in
1968 by Farrar, Straus, and Giroux to an American magazine Vogue, in a time when many intellectual
Americans believed they were standing at the dawn of the Golden Age. The emergence of The Human
Potential Movement, in the 1960s, would authorize full use of personal capacities, leading to self
actualization and fulfillment of pleasure. In today s society, many people find themselves
unsuccessful, according to the definition created by society, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As a result of this rejection, Didion developed the definition of self respect that we all accept, one
placing the opinion of others above her own. This personal and vulnerable memory included in the
essay marks a point in Didion s life where she encountered an unfair situation and began to struggle
with acceptance of self respect. Here, Didion dismisses the preconceived notion that she always held
full self respect for herself by labeling herself inferior to the sorority. Despite Didion s current
achievements for the popular Vanity Fair magazine, this personal anecdote shows failure, allowing
Didion to appeal to ethos and pathos. She does not intend for the audience to sympathize for her
shame, but to provide a personal example of the negative impact an ordinary individual can encounter
with the incorrect definition of self respect. Didion also displays credibility by re evaluating her own
level of self respect to relate with the audience as they develop this characteristic. Didion uses
inclusive pronouns such as, we and our, to once again highlight that she is relatable to the audience.
This allows for construction of Didion s character by displaying credibility by appearance of standard
individual, rather than a famous author and model. Didion s use of ethos allows her to present

How To Struggle In Julia Alvarez s In The Time Of The...
In In the Time of the Butterflies, there are three sisters who join the revolution against an oppressive
government. When Dede is on a vacation to Spain, a Canadian man tells her It is the sweetness in
them that makes them burn (Alvarez, 320). Dede connects these words to her sisters and why they
joined the revolution. It is the sweetness of Minerva, Patria, and Maria Teresa that caused them to join
the revolution.
Minerva s sweetness is that she cares. Not particularly about herself, including her safety, but for her
family and for her country. She joins the revolution because of how much she hates the government
and what it is doing, and does not want anyone else to have to experience this government s reign.

Animal Abuse During The 1900 S
Animal Abuse Movies, TV shows, circuses, and illegal gatherings in an old car garage are all places
that animal abuse has taken place for the entertainment of humans. Since the 1900 s movie producers
have been using animals in their productions (Dugas). Inhumane and unnecessary, are just two words
that describe animal abuse, the use of animals for human entertainment is cruel and injustice. Bite the
Bullet , a movie in the 1906 about a race through the American west, focused on the treatment of
horses and other animals. With the help of the American humane association (AHA) and others like
Harold Melnicker they were able to produce a film that focus on the treatment of animals. After
supposed accidents and brutal roles in the 1920 s to the 1930 s, the American humane association was
able to set rules and requirements for filmmakers if they chose to include animals in their films. In a
past film it was told that a horse plunged backwards over a cliff and into a river, although the producer
claims that it was an accident and the horse lost its footing and fell, it is believed the cause of the fall
was due to insufficient training and no plan was set in case of an accident. Even with all the tricks that
are possible with photography and even trained animals, the film producer ignored all of this and only
managed to hurt an animal. Many celebrities took action, one of them being Doris Day, who

Why is the tropical rainforest in crisis and what can be done about it?
The tropical rainforest is located all around the world. For example, the Amazon Rainforest, the
Colombian Rainforest and other small rainforests located in Central America. In 1990, rainforests
were plentiful however until 2010, around an eighth of all the rainforests were cut down. The
rainforest is mostly endangered by human interaction and climate change. Forests are undergoing
deforestation and are changed into non productive forests which are forests that are cut in such a way
they produce minimal trees per year. Also, mining usually occurs in the rainforest which causes

What Does Flanders Symbolize
With a sword in my hand , follows the early years of Marguerite of Male from the year 1348. The
novel displays the strange beliefs and rules which the society of Flanders followed. These people lived
by the rules of the church but they also believed in superstitions found in the living and the non living.
The people of Flanders were very religious and closely followed the rules of the church. In the novel,
one of these rules were that people as closely related as fourth cousins could not get married. This is
displayed through the Popes reply to Marguerite s letter. it appears he has discovered, upon a thorough
examination of many branches of the family tree of the world s great nobility, that you two are cousins

Sigmund Freud s Representation of Three Tall Women Essay
A Deeper Understanding of Three Tall Women
According to Sigmund Freud, psychoanalysis is a procedure for the investigation of mental processes
which are almost inaccessible in any other way (Fodor and Gaynor 147). It becomes a deeper contrast
of a person s mentality to consider the design of interplay within the urging and checking forces of the
conscious and unconscious (Fodor and Gaynor 147). Freud s representation of Three Tall Women,

The play expresses the idea of virtue and C s hope of avoiding the fate of A, which in turn shows that
there exists a strong desire to maintain a life that consists in pleasing an authoritative figure or higher
power (such as God). It may be discovered, with the help of the analytical mind of Carl Jung, that the
study of religious experience [can] be regarded...as the study of the fundamental, natural and
therapeutic psychic process, in which the individual seeks self knowledge, self regulation, and self
fulfillment (Palmer 109). Freud teaches us his idea of the ego, superego, and the id. The ego consists
of the conscious thought, which is understood as the cartoon character [that] has a devil on one
shoulder and an angel on the other (Freud, The Dependent Relationship of the Ego). Literally
speaking, character A was faced with the battle between devil and angel, good and evil, and it is the
branches of herself in B and C that such a contrast is shown.
Character C is the object of the angel and represented by innocence, the character traits of a child,
because she is the little one, the character with the least amount of experience in the world (Albee 39).
While Freud may claim that this character represents the id in that she takes the majority of her
influence from the unconscious part of her mind that says what she wants, Jung looks at the character
with the idea of an archetypal self. Based on Jung s study, archetypes

Comparing Valentine s Day And The Lottery
Valentine s Day Although about 50% of Americans decide not to celebrate Valentine s Day, but that

So why do so many people still celebrate this day and how has it evolved into the day of love from

The events that you take part in with your loved ones are to be cherished forever. Valentine s Day is
supposed to reignite the spark between relationships and remind individuals of their feelings. In The
Lottery when someone pulls the slip with a black dot on it, each of their family members is required to
pull another slip of paper, including children, and whichever family member draws the slip with a

Persuasive Speech On Bodybuilding
Let s face it, bodybuilding is very much a sport which places a huge emphasis on sacrifice, as in
reality, bodybuilding isn t so much a sport at all, but rather an entire lifestyle and a way of life. For
people who think that bodybuilding is simply about spending an hour or so in the gym a few times
each week, the reality of things is very different indeed. Bodybuilders constantly have to watch not
only what they eat, but when they eat as well.
They can t simply head out to the club with their friends, or for a meal whenever they like, especially
if they re training for a competition. Even what they drink has a huge effect on their physiques,
particularly where alcohol is concerned. Unfortunately, alcohol and bodybuilding just do not go
together, as alcohol is extremely detrimental not only to a person s physique, but also to their training
as well. Generally speaking, alcohol and bodybuilding should be kept as far away from each other as
possible, and here s a look at why that is. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When we eat food, the food of course contains calories, which are units of energy that fuel our bodies.
These calories, however, are predominantly found in vital micronutrients which are: protein,
carbohydrates, and fats. Even when we eat a double cheeseburger and fries, the calories, as unhealthy
as they are, still help us to meet our macronutrient goals as the foods contain proteins, and fats, and
carbohydrates, which our bodies need. Alcohol however, contains twice as many calories as proteins
and carbohydrates, and offers very little in return. On top of that, as it is in liquid form, the calories are
absorbed quickly, which can lead to increases in body fat storage. Alcohol contains twice as many
calories, so we consume more, and very little nutritional value in the

16 December 2015 Over the course of this class I have learned things that I didn t know before and
developing as a writer. I learned different things with each of the assignments I submitted. I learned
things like how to develop my writing and how to transition my writing to flow better together. I
learned to correctly cite in text citations and I learned how to create a profile. Each of these things I
will carry with me as I continue to write for various classes or other reasons in the future and they will
continue to help me better myself as writer. The five student outcomes have helped me to better

I then submitted my final draft to iNet. My topic for my research paper was technology s impact on
today s society. I talked about the positive and negative impacts technology has on our society
everyday and I was able to give evidence of my ideas with information I found when researching. I
explained that technology has helped with finding new ways to teach students including those with
disabilities and how it has helped to advance the health and medicinal field. I also explained some
downsides such as the addiction and absence of face to face interaction that come along with
technology. Each of my assignments for this class included revising and editing at the attempt to hand
in the best possible work. I made sure I read over my work before handing it in to assure that there
were little to no grammatical or spelling errors. My biggest struggle in this area was working on
transitions and organization throughout my assignments to make sure my paper flowed better as a
whole.

How Is Offred And The Commander
Offred and the Commander The Commander represents the Government and the System in the novel.
The most effective way in which the novel brought out gender bias was Offred s narration of how the
Gilead society claims her body as property of the Government s. She clearly states that she is part of a
collectively owned resource, We are containers, it s only the insides of our bodies that are important.
The outside can become hard and wrinkled for all they care, like the shell of a nut. (Atwood 150).
Handmaids are no more than vessels, no more than passageways that facilitate the existence of a baby
and Offred s empty womb is being watched by the government. It is the central object which is more
real than her. Yet Offred realized the powerlessness of the Commander as a part of the system. He
does not have the ability He wouldn t be able to intervene, to save me; the transgressions of women in
the household, whether Martha or Handmaid, are supposed to be under the jurisdiction of the Wives
alone. (Atwood 162) This also allows the readers a glimpse into the power and infiltration of Mayday
against the Eyes . The readers are able to see the powerlessness and the inefficiency of the State
though the Commander s impotence and restriction placed on him by the State itself. Offred s hope

Warner Brothers Pictures Gravity
The movie Gravity, a winner of 7 Academy awards, produced by Warner Brothers Pictures , shows
just how dangerous space can be. Dr. Ryan Stone is a bio medical engineer who is on her first mission
into space. Soon after taking off, Houston commands her and her fellow astronaut, Matt Kowalski, to
abort the expedition. Their colleagues back home have warned them that a ton of debris is headed their
way because of a Russian missile strike. The debris hits their station and causes a lot of problems for
them. They quickly realize that it is too late to return home and that they have to find a way to survive
with the clock ticking down. Losing connection with Mission Control is one of the many problems the
two astronauts faced. Although this movie may have many events in space that are scientifically
accurate, some events are completely inaccurate. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

example of them achieving accuracy is when George Clooney had to let go to save Sandra Bullock.
Due to Isaac Newton s laws of motion, we know that an object in motion will remain in motion unless
acted upon by an outside force (Newton s First Law.) Since there is little gravity in space, the
astronauts had no outside forces acting upon them once they were moved, unless something or
someone hit them. As Stone is falling with her leg caught in the parachute, she is decelerating.
Kowalski believes that the parachute cannot absorb that much energy so letting go of the parachute
will be effective because it will only have to absorb Stone s energy and not both of theirs. This scene

The Setting Up More Of Victoria s Ordinary World
The opening sets the tone, but consider setting up more of Victoria s ordinary world. Make the point
that her philosophy of therapy is different than her husband, but then move on.
An alternative to consider is to make Victoria the opposite. She believes that therapy can only help a
patient go so far, and that she advocates for medication.
This would give her a stronger character arc, as she realizes her own philosophy about treatment
changes.
Consider making the goal more specific and focus on one major patient. Create the story of the
imaginary friend to be more compelling and mysterious. So, if the goal is to help Donald, make his
story more captivating and stay focused on this story. Make it more suspenseful and peel away the
mystery. Try to create a twist.
Consider moving up what Slice says, Dead spirits walkin around don t make no sense unless you feel
what they re after. They want something. This seems to be what Victoria needs to figure out (the goal)
from Donald or her client (kids).
Clearly identify what is at stake for Victoria. If she s not able to help her client her career will be
ruined. Don t be overly dramatic about, but make it clear. Perhaps her client comes from a wealthy
family and warns her if she damages the client, she ll never work again.
If the major mystery has a twist ending, make sure to put Victoria in jeopardy. While her sanity is in
jeopardy, in most thrillers, the climax involves a physical danger to the hero. So if she unravels a

Just War Theory and the Movie Glory
Movie Review The Just War Theory and Glory RS 289 WB Religion, War Peace Glory is a movie that
reenacts the formation of the first Negro infantry, the 54th Massachusetts, during the Civil War. Led
by Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, the volunteer Massachusetts infantry endured grueling training and
strict discipline. Under his watchful eye, they slowly transformed from being wild and unruly to
proud, courageous, and patriotic soldiers. Although the North believed in the abolition of slavery,
many Northerners still thought the Negro to be inferior to the White race and did not believe they

Many thousands of lives would have been saved. Also, bringing some industry to the South would
have created jobs and empowered the South with a more stabilized economy like the North had. This
could have prevented the succession of the South from the Union. In my opinion, the North had a
reasonable chance of success because it had industry which meant more wealth than the South
enjoyed. The wealth allowed them to manufacture more artillery and ammunition needed to win a war.
As shown in the movie, officers had lavish parties in wealthy homes and even used watermelons for
sword practice. Watermelons are usually grown in the warmer climate of the South where there was
more poverty. I doubt very much the Southerners would have wasted watermelons on sword practice
as many tended to be poor. All of this does not mean the American Civil War was proportional. In fact,
I don t believe it was. When Fort Wayne was attacked in the movie, Glory , almost half of the Union
soldiers perished in that battle. They were sitting ducks, running to the slaughter. The goal of freeing
slaves or not freeing slaves was NOT worth the gain of killing more enemy soldiers than the opposing
side and the destruction of thousands upon thousands of men. Lastly, noncombatant immunity was not
practiced during the Civil War as portrayed in the movie, Glory when Southern property was attacked

What Are The Stereotypes In My Cousin Vinny
My Cousin Vinny (1992) is a perfect way to show Italians in Hollywood movies. It gives the gangster

Vinny Gambini, and Mona Lisa Vito. These characters all carry some sort of stereotype that
corresponds with being Italian. Although some have a more dominant presence of the stereotype, it
can still be found during the movie. The movie starts off with two friends driving around in the south.

What Was The Influence Of The Baroque Period
The Baroque Period, much like the barocco pearl that it was named after, did not just spring up out of
nowhere. It was cultivated through time by different factors that developed the beautifully dramatic,
grandiose and theatrical style we know today. To start off, the sector of religion must be of the most, if
not the most, significant influence that helped the growth of the period. This is said because of the
effects that had been brought about the Council of Trent in 1545, taking place after the Reformation. It
was an ecumenical council of clergymen, mostly bishops, of the Roman Catholic Church which aimed
to combat the heresies made by the Protestants via reforms within the Church in addition to the
revision and strengthening of their canon. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Renowned sculptor, painter and architect, Gian Lorenzo Bernini translated the Baroque philosophies
into his many works. In his masterpieces, specifically his sculptures, he believed in showing passion,
decadence, movement, drama and contrasting forms and shadows different from the static and
conventional styles of previous periods, like the Renaissance style. Bernini s earlier works Apollo and
Daphne and Rape of Persephone commissioned by Cardinal Scipione Borghese between 1621 and
1625 are great examples of the Baroque style of sculpture. They showed dramatic emotion and
movement along with differing forms and stories through the interplay of light and shadow. These
works impacted society by showing a different and radical change in the forms found in sculptures,
setting up the style for future Baroque sculptors. Spectators are also encouraged to move , in a sense,
to view the sculpture in all angles to establish a full grasp and understanding of all its parts, shapes
and shadows providing a change from conventional static and straightforward sculptures of past

Autonomous Weapons
Killing Machines and our use of Autonomous Weapons
Science fiction novels originated with Mary Shelley s Frankenstein in the 19th century. Since then, we
have upgraded our sci fi books, from reanimating the dead to killer robots. But are killer robots really
fictitious? Science Fiction author and Ted Talk speaker Daniel Suarez argues that releasing
autonomous robots for warfare will revert our nations into governments with centralized power;
therefore, we need to ban the use of autonomous weapons if we want to prevent an immoral and
anonymous arms race with robots. His allegations are backed with research that leaves me feeling
confident in supporting him.

He explained how our right to vote on topics like autonomous weapons will be taken away, but it s not
just our opinions on autonomy that will be lost. It is our fundamental principles of moral ethics. It is
our laws that we as a country treat our citizens, and even our prisoners with respect. We have banned
the use of waterboarding, despite its use by Al Qaeda on our soldiers. So the idea of sending these
robots lacking mankind s morals to take the lives of hundreds, if not thousands, of people is an
argument that could never be solved in a justified manner. Suarez insinuates that if we allow these
robots to make life or death situations, our government would be forced to become a totalitarian
government, meaning we would have to forfeit our rights to vote on ideas. Secondly, he mentions the
cartel of secret warlords who could run the world with rogue robots. But he also brings up the
possibility of an individual being able to commit these heinous crimes. That s why I support his claim
of transparency; there must be an opportunity to bring criminals to justice. Evidence of this being
essential to our democracy can be found in one of the most popular unsolved cases in criminal history

Ralph Waldo Emerson Self Reliance
In Ralph Waldo Emerson s essay Self Reliance, Emerson discusses the perception of self reliance. Self
reliance to Emerson is a concept of trusting personal thoughts and knowledge opposed to agreeing and
submitting to the preconceived notions already forced upon individuals within a society. Even though
personal beliefs and thoughts can be swayed and influenced by outside forces if one choses to listen to
superficial thoughts, I agree with Emerson that the concept of believing in personal truths is necessary
to maintain the truth and to become more self aware. As individuals rely more on their own personal
beliefs and truths, their understanding of knowledge and happiness can be furthered, by decreasing

but I shall obey God rather than you, and while I have life and strength I shall never cease from the

than succeeding to the government s will and listening to the single voice of the majority. Socrates
explains further that knowledge is the truth and he will continue to pursue the truth so as not to allow
the truth to become stagnant and overused as it would be if he did not question his life further.
Socrates exemplifies the model of self reliance through his decision to not only disregard the notions
of society but also in his decision to believe his own ideas and conceptions of what the truth is.
Socrates relies purely on his own personal thoughts. This concept is important because so often
humankind ignores that feeling or conviction deep within themselves. Emerson and Socrates both
strongly argue that in order to fully comprehend what truth and knowledge are, you absolutely must
fully commit yourself to the beliefs within you. Self reliance not only allows for a deeper connection
with the truth and knowledge, but also allows humankind to increase critical examinations of current

A Survey Of The New Testament
A Survey of the New Testament The New Testament is defined as part of the Bible concerned with the
life and teachings of Christ and his earliest followers (American Century Dictionary 387). The Son of
God comes to Earth to save us from our sins and to teach us a new way of serving the Lord. Animal
sacrifice is done away with because Jesus died for our sins as a perfect sacrifice and his sacrifice is
everlasting. Jesus explained, for God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but
that the world through him might be saved (John 3.17). This collection consists of twenty seven
books, in which I will break down into five sections. First are the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke,
and John, the book of Acts, which is commonly classified as a book of history. Next are the epistles of
Paul which are the book of Romans through Philemon, the general epistles of Hebrews through Jude,
and the prophecy book of Revelation. 1. The Gospels The book of Matthew provides a detailed
account of the life of Jesus and establishes that Jesus Christ is the Messiah who fulfills the Old
Testament prophesies (Wiersbe 627). The author Matthew is primarily aiming his writings at the Jews
to let them know that he is the savior who is referred to several times in the Old Testament (Isiah 7:14,

Individual Employees Should Be Protected From Penalties

Individual employees should be protected from penalties with regard to sensitive data that has been
compromised/released. Since a majority of security breaches result from corporate culture, malicious
attacks, or glitches in the system, employees should be protected from misdirected penalization. Such
breaches may also stem from improper training of computer illiterate employees. With the many
factors involved in a data breach, a company will benefit more from providing a great employee with
proper safeguard procedures than from hiring a fresh employee, one just as likely to make such
mistakes.

There are currently laws to protect employees who are whistleblowers, allowing lower level

The Sargasso Se The Disappearances In The Bermuda Triangle
While methane bubbles can sink an entire ship, it does not prove to be the cause for all disappearing
ships and plans in the triangle. The area of largest methane gas releases was not in the Bermuda s but
somewhere along the Carolinas coast. This decreases the likelihood of methane gas releases from the
ocean floor. Some drilling rigs have drilled into methane hydrates (where methane gas is stored
underground) and while the density of that water did decrease and the ship sunk; there was plenty of
time to send a mayday call and evacuate the ship. With the methane gas theory, there would be no
reason why a ship could not make a mayday call, but disappearances in the triangle are sudden.
Researchers know some of the first sailors did not have the technology to send a mayday call, but

The Sargasso Sea is seven hundred miles wide by two thousand miles long. The Bermuda Triangle is
on the western edge of the Sargasso Sea. The water is covered in dense seaweed which forms a thick
mat on the surface, known as Sargassum (Rudolph pg. 9). Christopher Columbus thought he had
reached land when he reached the Sargasso Sea (Bhattacharya). It is bound by ocean currents on all
sides, which separates it from the surrounding Atlantic. Trash and other objects are pulled into the sea
by swirling currents. The thick mat of seaweed and trash could bring a ship to a halt when the winds
are low. Some ships have been found floating in the seaweed with no passengers. One ship, Fannia E.
Wolston, floated for five years covering 7,025 miles. Spanish sailors often found themselves stranded
for weeks and had to jettison their war horses to conserve water, which was why an area of the
Sargasso Sea is called the Horse Latitudes . However, there was no direct correlation to missing
airplanes and large freighters that can sail through weak winds and seaweed

The Importance Of British Imperialism In Britain
The British empire, as well as many others, were diminishing, during the post war era. The focus of
this essay is to answer the question debating the relevance of British imperialism on immigrants who
enter the United Kingdom during the post war period. In summary, the answer that will be provided is
that imperialism was the main contributor to pulling people towards Britain, yet it was not the only
one. On the other hand, the imperial status had no relevance on all the immigrants, and this also will
be discussed. Between the years of 1948 and 1962, it has been estimated that 500,000 immigrants
from the British Commonwealth entered the United Kingdom. This essay will concentrate on these
years and these immigrants, as 1948 saw the opening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was the ship that transported passengers from Commonwealth countries to Britain. The
passengers on board the Empire Windrush were predominately Jamaicans; but there were other
nationalities of Australians, Mexican, Polish, and other people from the Caribbean islands. The
docking of the Empire Windrush was a watershed moment, as Kushner explains that, on one side was
the empires end, while on the other was a revision of what British meant. The age of the empire was
when those living in Britain embarked on gaining territories for economic and prestige reasons,
spreading civilisation. However, since the end of the Second World War, colonies were demanding
independence, yet, for some who gained this independence, they still wanted some sense of British
influence. This was the beginning of the British Commonwealth. As the Phillips brothers point out,
however, prior to the Windrush arriving in Britain in 1947, there was a black population able to trace
their lineage back a few centuries. Additionally, during the Second World War, about ten thousand
West Indian men arrived in Britain, which was more than the entire pre war black population. Hence,
Britain was not new to having a black population, the problem was the numbers of this population was
increasing uncontrollably. Many of these passengers from the Commonwealth came to Britain because
of its imperial importance on their countries.
After the war, Western European countries experienced a labour shortage,

Elizabeth Siddal And The Femme Fatale
In pre Raphaelite paintings, a famously known model, Elizabeth Siddal appears as an idealised form
of female body. In the 19th century, she was the central figure of the muse that often combined with
man s fantasy and sensuality with poetic idealism. Although Rossetti and Siddal s marriage was not so
idealised rather a tragedy, but they formed a relationship of an artist and the muse. After the death of
Siddal, Rossetti departed from the notion of ideal women but he was preoccupied with the theme of
Lilith in both his paintings and poetry. Rossetti manifested many of the demonized figure imagery, the
femme fatal , in his art and to a certain extent, we could see that he was not free from the memory of
his wronged wife. Furthermore, it is noteworthy that many male artists depicted the female body
imagery in two categories, which are either the idealised, the muse or the cult of feminine beauty, the
femme fatale. Those binary structured perception between the muse and the femme fatale have a
strong relationship with the man s agony and anxiety over the female challenges that were emerging at
different levels of society. Bear this ideas in mind, the paper attempts to explore the Lilith images in
Rossetti s art with the particular focus on how the muse turned into femme fatale. Furthermore, it will
discuss Rossetti s engagements with his wife, Elizabeth Siddal from the perspective of personal and
psychological aspects. First, the paper will briefly discuss the

Modernizing The World Can Be Detrimental
Modernizing the world can be detrimental to religious cooperation. With an increase in education of
the different options of religious directions, there are controversial means of interaction between them
as the different religious beliefs compete to be right or most beneficial to the human population. Some
religions, like Hinduism, typically tolerate other beliefs and desire to work with them to maintain
order and a civil living situation. Unlike Hinduism, Christianity appears to exert attributes that oppose
this mindset. They are in conflict with other religions even within the umbrella of Christianity
(Massimini Fave, 1991). The spectrum of Christian denominations are not even collaboratively

There is always a conflict between religious beliefs (Roccas, 2005). Irreligious people live according
to rituals, behaviors, and other values that align with their own personal ethic, while Religious
individuals abide by what is given them by their divine authority. These variations are easily
scientifically observable, but, the motives behind the beliefs require more insight and intuition to
deduce. According to Roccas (2005), values are the motives behind their actions. This includes factors
that influence one to act a certain way, understand situations, and give reasons for their behaviors. It is
a method to quench people s desires through meaningful and ethical means. The concept of good and
bad are founded on this idea of values (Roccas, 2005). These place a hierarchical order of significance
and morality in one s life. Values such as family security, forgiveness, and obedience take priority in
importance to those of religious lifestyles. Some of the values that are attributed to low importance in
the lives of religious individuals may include pleasure and an exciting life (Roccas, 2005). Consistent
with Roccas (2005) views, Schwartz relates values to preferences, categorization according to
significance in one s life, and guidance in a person s lifelong pursuits. Schwartz derived power,

Magical Realism As A Literary Genre
Magical Realism is a literary genre that integrates fantastic or mythological elements into otherwise
realistic fiction. It is described by the basic, direct presentation of strange, magical events. Magical
realism is basically characterized by the utilization of fantasy that vast majority believe in. Examples
of such things include ghosts, psychics, and the theme of fate and destiny. It permits the novelist to
venture into the fantasy realm without totally losing the feeling of reality. Magical Realism was found
in Latin America during the 1960 s forward to the present. It is portrayed with the utilization of
paranormal activity that most of the populace has faith in or is in any event inquisitive about. The
Hispanic society is usually involved with exploring the mysteries of birth, death, and the spiritual
world. For instance, in Mexico they perceive the Day of the Dead in which they rejoice as opposed to
grieving the passing family members (). They reminiscence and praise the life of the individual who
have passed on and trust that the departed has moved on to heaven and watches over the living. They
even keep the head of their descendant as a token. As a movement, magical realism is utilized to
discover the theories of these beliefs. In literature, magical realism is symbolized by pictures of spirits
and other strange happenings. However these were not essentially ominous signs. More often than not
the spirits embodied a joyful or nice encounter, such as seeing

Domestication Of Marijuana
It still leaves one with the question of where exactly the banana was first domesticated. Studies have
found that banana fruit was first cultivated by farmers in the Southeast Asia region, but Archaeologists
have focused their studies in an area called Kuk Valley of New Guinea around 8,000 BCE. Although it
is highly probable that the domestication of the banana could have occurred in other surrounding
areas, the Kuk Valley is the first known place of domesticating the banana. As mentioned before
although it was the first place of domestication it was the cradle or foundation of the banana we know
today. Studies have also found that after the initial harvesting of the banana in Kuk Valley the

For example in colonial times the banana was used on plantation as a crop to help protect other
important crops like coffee and cacao. The banana plant had large leaves that provided the perfect
shade for these other important commodities. In the Caribbean, on the sugar plantations, the banana
crop was not only non labor intensive but also provided easy energy, calories, and nutrients needed to
feed the slave population at the time. Though in its early stages the banana provided many uses other
than foodstuff the banana was beginning to become more common in local markets, and by the 1800s
the demand and supply for the banana would shift form a local staple crop to a global commodity. As
mentioned before the banana holds more than nutrients and other uses, it plays a large role in some
countries economies and even politics. The banana is one of the top staple fruit crops on a global level.
This being said it wouldn t be considered much of a surprise that the banana trade also symbolizes
economic imperialistic goals. For example due to its non intensive labor the price of the banana was
relatively cheap which lead to it being high in demand. Without being aware of it the banana opened
up opportunities that would affect Latin governments at the

The Sixth Commandment And The Death Penalty Debate
Religious leaders and organizations have been powerful lobbies on both sides of the death penalty
debate. Those against the death penalty say it is their moral obligation to bring the issue of capital
punishment to the forefront of the religious community s agenda. They also argue that it is becoming
increasingly difficult for the U.S. to maintain its position as the global leader on human rights when it
not only still executes people, but juveniles as well. On the other side of the debate, some religious
leaders firmly believe the Sixth Commandment is a prohibition against murder and not a prohibition
against the death penalty. 5

  • 2. Arguments On Inequality In Society Division has been human nature since time immemorial. The clash of different groups based purely on their difference has been part of our nature since the days of the Sumerians. This conflict has always been an issue in society, plaguing nations and dividing communities. However, with modern innovation, many believe that we have overcome inequality, citing the rise of new arguments for equality and a more conciliatory outlook arising from activists. There is another faction, however, that argues that inequality is part of human nature and has been and will be around for the entire existence of the human race, due to its intrinsic nature and the subtle restrictions of freedoms that plague this nation. This latter argument finds support in the rhetoric and actions of both antiquity and the present. Frederick Douglass in a speech about modern civil liberties mentioned the Babylonian captivity, in which the captured Jews sat and... Wept for Zion a symbol of the oppression humans have experienced ever since [Source C]. Douglass is alluding to how people have been mistreated and brutalized by those unlike them since times before Jesus; this is invariable human nature, and with time all society reverts back to it. The Babylonians mistreated the Jews thousands of years ago because of their race. We say that we have overcome these biases in our modern world, yet comedians still joke about Jewish peoples in the media. This and similar struggles in our nation cannot be considered ... • 4. Galileo s Accomplishments Galileo Galilei, best known for his advances in astronomy (specifically, his improvements of the telescope), has also invented and improved many other commonly known items, such as the pendulum clock and the thermometer. In 1593, Galileo created a thermometer that relied on the expanding and contracting of air to push water up and down a clear tube. Since hot air takes up a larger volume than cold air, the higher the temperature is, the higher the water level is in the tube. The clear tube can be marked at intervals to show what the temperature is, even though there would be no universal unit to measure heat for another century. One of Galileo s inventions is the pendulum clock. In 1602, Galileo recorded his observation that a pendulum has a constant period. He then tested this hypothesis and came up with the conclusion that it is true. 39 years later, Galileo came up with the idea that the pendulum could be used to keep track of time. Since the pendulum had a constant period, Galileo used the swing of the pendulum to lift a pawl , which allows a gear to turn for a certain amount, until the ... At that time, the spyglass could only magnify objects to three times their original size. Galileo refined the lens, allowing it to magnify things up to first eight, then later, in 1610, 30 times their original size. By using this telescope, he was able to observe the movement of objects in the sky, such as stars and planets, that supported the Copernicus s theory of heliocentrism that the sun was the center of the universe. He also found that the moon was not completely smooth, as most people at the time assumed it would be. Instead, it had was bumpy and had hills and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Mac Os Classic Has Its Shortcomings Essay Since the first Macintosh operating system, System 1, back in 1984 there has been 15 major versions issued. System 1 was the beginning point of the GUI based systems made available to the market. No longer relying on the text command line, it relied on the user manipulation of the GUI and mouse. However, the Mac OS Classic had its shortcomings. According to Jonathan Levin (2012), Memory management was poor, however, and multitasking was cooperative, which by today s standards is considered primitive. Cooperative multitasking involves process voluntarily yielding their CPU timeslice, and works reasonably well when processes are well behaved (p. 3,4). This wasn t always the case and any process malfunction would shut down the system. System 3, released in 1986 introduced File System Hierarchy, storing files in a tree like directory that is currently common on all operating systems today. It also was the first system to have Disk Cache that kept regularly used commands in the memory that sped up operations. There were several minor versions in between System 3 until System 7. System 7 was released in 1991 and it made use of a hard drive instead of a floppy disk that was too limited in size. It also had virtual memory that used free space on the hard drive as random access memory (RAM). Mac OS 7.6, released in 1997, was the first version to use the Mac OS instead of System in it naming scheme. Mac OS 7.6 and Mac OS 8.0 released also in 1997, where very ... • 6. Symbolism Of Fire In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding Fire, in today s society, is used for several different reasons including warmth, cooking, and destruction while prescription glasses have mainly one purpose, to help aid in eyesight. But for Piggy, the most rational of the group, and Ralph, the leader of all the kids, fire and a pair of bifocals are solely used for survival. Jack on the other hand, who is the leader of the savages, uses fire to harm and control others around him. Lord of the Flies by William Golding acquires an elaborate way to develop deeper meanings of each of the symbols especially fire and Piggy s glasses. The symbolic meaning of fire is demonstrated throughout the book in many different fashions but mainly it is portrayed as a symbol of life and social order. If ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now that Jack is the new leader, he became increasingly greedy and mean and exiled Ralph and Piggy from the rest of the group and left them with nothing, except the symbolic origin of fire, Piggy s glasses. But instead of using fire to divide the group they really needed everyone to come together to create a controlled fire so they can get off the island. While Ralph and Piggy were away Jack tried to create a signal fire, but instead he created a bonfire that ended up burning a quarter of the island down. Piggy walks up to Jack and told him (because he was mad): You got your small fire all right. ...the boys were falling still and silent, feeling the beginnings of awe at the power set free below them (55). Jack knew they needed a fire, but in reality Jack did not understand how destructive a fire can be, and ended up killing one of the members of the group with the fire he started. With the group divided and life in danger, the symbolic meaning of fire is displayed in this quote because it demonstrates the order and or chaos that is on the island and how nearly all of the social structure on the island could be lost as quickly as the time it takes to snap Piggy s glasses in half. The symbol of Piggy s Glasses is illustrated in many different ways, such as structure and civilization. When Piggy first got onto the island, he looked at it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Analysis Of The Movie I re Your Problem Annie You re your problem Annie, and you re also your solution, is something surprisingly deep from the R rated Comedy Bridesmaids (1:37:13). This movie is about a girl, Annie, who along with falling on hard times has to plan her best friend, Lillian s wedding while dealing with a crazy group of bridesmaids: Helen, the rich perfectionist, Rita, the mother who hates her three boys, Becca, the newly wed, and Megan, the overtalkative nutcase. Bridesmaids has a lot of truths about money, success, and overall happiness. The main themes of the movie are that money will not always make someone happy and that money does not make anyone better than anyone else. With those themes there are also a lot of comparisons that could be made with the movie including how Helen, the very rich, and Annie, the very poor, constantly struggle to prove who would be a better maid of honor, and how Annie could be an embodiment of the struggles millennials faced during and after the stock market collapse. Two characters that really show that money does not buy happiness: Megan and Rhodes, a cop who becomes Annie s love interest. Megan is a very interesting character in this movie because while she is very odd she really has her life put together. She was able to overcome the obstacles that she talked about with Annie and how she loves what she does (1:35:54 1:36:24). While Megan does make a lot of money, she would most certainly be happy without and be able to have a fulfilled life as long as she did what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Pip s perspective, money is a pathway to greatness and is necessary in order to obtain a sense of happiness. As soon as Pip was able to get his hand on money, he took advantage of it which caused him to experience debt. Analysis Of Didion s On Self Respect In Didion s emotional yet dominant essay, On Self Respect, found in Slouching Towards Bethlehem, she defines the true meaning of value to oneself, while indicating that reactions of weakness and humiliation, based on the approval of bystanders, inhibits true acceptance. Her work was published in 1968 by Farrar, Straus, and Giroux to an American magazine Vogue, in a time when many intellectual Americans believed they were standing at the dawn of the Golden Age. The emergence of The Human Potential Movement, in the 1960s, would authorize full use of personal capacities, leading to self actualization and fulfillment of pleasure. As a result of this rejection, Didion developed the definition of self respect that we all accept, one placing the opinion of others above her own. This personal and vulnerable memory included in the essay marks a point in Didion s life where she encountered an unfair situation and began to struggle with acceptance of self respect. Here, Didion dismisses the preconceived notion that she always held full self respect for herself by labeling herself inferior to the sorority. Despite Didion s current achievements for the popular Vanity Fair magazine, this personal anecdote shows failure, allowing Didion to appeal to ethos and pathos. She does not intend for the audience to sympathize for her shame, but to provide a personal example of the negative impact an ordinary individual can encounter with the incorrect definition of self respect. Didion also displays credibility by re evaluating her own level of self respect to relate with the audience as they develop this characteristic. Didion uses inclusive pronouns such as, we and our, to once again highlight that she is relatable to the audience. This allows for construction of Didion s character by displaying credibility by appearance of standard individual, rather than a famous author and model. Since the 1900 s movie producers have been using animals in their productions (Dugas). Inhumane and unnecessary, are just two words that describe animal abuse, the use of animals for human entertainment is cruel and injustice. The plants that are lush only need so little light like the Dwarf Palm which is approximately 4 5 metres max. Many of the plants her rely on insects for their food. The understorey is home to many animals and has the largest amount of insects. Canopy: Second highest layer of the rainforest. This is the layer that allows only a little sunlight for the Forest Floor and the Understorey. The creatures that live among the canopy rarely go down to the Forest Floor. The novel displays the strange beliefs and rules which the society of Flanders followed. These people lived by the rules of the church but they also believed in superstitions found in the living and the non living. The people of Flanders were very religious and closely followed the rules of the church. In the novel, one of these rules were that people as closely related as fourth cousins could not get married. This is displayed through the Popes reply to Marguerite s letter. it appears he has discovered, upon a thorough examination of many branches of the family tree of the world s great nobility, that you two are cousins ... and that is forbidden by the church and by god . This proved that Marguerite and Edmund could not get married and fulfill their holy matrimony. Another rule found in Flanders was that a married couple could not separate until one of them died. This meant that Marguerite was the only heir to Flanders, as her little brother Boudewijn died and her mother could not bare her father any more children. It brings ... Freud teaches us his idea of the ego, superego, and the id. The ego consists of the conscious thought, which is understood as the cartoon character [that] has a devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other (Freud, The Dependent Relationship of the Ego). Literally speaking, character A was faced with the battle between devil and angel, good and evil, and it is the branches of herself in B and C that such a contrast is shown. Character C is the object of the angel and represented by innocence, the character traits of a child, because she is the little one, the character with the least amount of experience in the world (Albee 39). Socrates s point is that the he will continue to stay firm in believing his own personal convictions and dogmas which derived from his own mind, rather than succeeding to the government s will and listening to the single voice of the majority. Socrates explains further that knowledge is the truth and he will continue to pursue the truth so as not to allow the truth to become stagnant and overused as it would be if he did not question his life further. Socrates exemplifies the model of self reliance through his decision to not only disregard the notions of society but also in his decision to believe his own ideas and conceptions of what the truth is. Socrates relies purely on his own personal thoughts. This concept is important because so often humankind ignores that feeling or conviction deep within themselves. Emerson and Socrates both strongly argue that in order to fully comprehend what truth and knowledge are, you absolutely must fully commit yourself to the beliefs within you. Self reliance not only allows for a deeper connection with the truth and knowledge, but also allows humankind to increase critical examinations of current positions in ... • 37. A Survey Of The New Testament A Survey of the New Testament The New Testament is defined as part of the Bible concerned with the life and teachings of Christ and his earliest followers (American Century Dictionary 387). The Son of God comes to Earth to save us from our sins and to teach us a new way of serving the Lord. Animal sacrifice is done away with because Jesus died for our sins as a perfect sacrifice and his sacrifice is everlasting. Jesus explained, for God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved (John 3.17). This collection consists of twenty seven books, in which I will break down into five sections. First are the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, the book of Acts, which is commonly classified as a book of history. Next are the epistles of Paul which are the book of Romans through Philemon, the general epistles of Hebrews through Jude, and the prophecy book of Revelation. 1. The Gospels The book of Matthew provides a detailed account of the life of Jesus and establishes that Jesus Christ is the Messiah who fulfills the Old Testament prophesies (Wiersbe 627). The author Matthew is primarily aiming his writings at the Jews to let them know that he is the savior who is referred to several times in the Old Testament (Isiah 7:14, 53:5, 53:12). This book is also the longest of the four gospels having twenty eight chapters. Mark is the shortest of the four gospels having 16 chapters, but is equally important as the ... Introduction Individual employees should be protected from penalties with regard to sensitive data that has been compromised/released. Since a majority of security breaches result from corporate culture, malicious attacks, or glitches in the system, employees should be protected from misdirected penalization. Such breaches may also stem from improper training of computer illiterate employees. With the many factors involved in a data breach, a company will benefit more from providing a great employee with proper safeguard procedures than from hiring a fresh employee, one just as likely to make such mistakes. There are currently laws to protect employees who are whistleblowers, allowing lower level employees to be protected if they talk about a security issue that could have been easily prevented (OSC, 1970). These protections prevent the higher level employees from turning around and blaming the lower level employee because they were the ones who let the breach be known. The laws don t specifically talk about security breaches because they are still fairly new so laws and regulations are still being developed for IT security. Some attacks are impossible to stop, like a well done Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack as Microsoft and Sony learned during Christmas of 2014. Both the Xbox Live and PlayStation Online networks were taken down for a couple of days (Love, 2014), and the attacks were stopped only when the attackers, Lizard Squad, was bribed into stopping by Kim Dotcom. The employees for both companies were competent and did everything they could to stop the attacks, but with DDoS attacks, data is not lost, and the server is just brought down making companies lose business. It is possible to stop smaller scale DDoS attacks using certain tricks, but unless all of the IP addresses are banned, it is almost impossible to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Sargasso Se The Disappearances In The Bermuda Triangle While methane bubbles can sink an entire ship, it does not prove to be the cause for all disappearing ships and plans in the triangle. The area of largest methane gas releases was not in the Bermuda s but somewhere along the Carolinas coast. This decreases the likelihood of methane gas releases from the ocean floor. Some drilling rigs have drilled into methane hydrates (where methane gas is stored underground) and while the density of that water did decrease and the ship sunk; there was plenty of time to send a mayday call and evacuate the ship. With the methane gas theory, there would be no reason why a ship could not make a mayday call, but disappearances in the triangle are sudden. Researchers know some of the first sailors did not have the technology to send a mayday call, but would have been able to evacuate their ship if it was slowly sinking. Methane ... The water is covered in dense seaweed which forms a thick mat on the surface, known as Sargassum (Rudolph pg. 9). Christopher Columbus thought he had reached land when he reached the Sargasso Sea (Bhattacharya). It is bound by ocean currents on all sides, which separates it from the surrounding Atlantic. Trash and other objects are pulled into the sea by swirling currents. The thick mat of seaweed and trash could bring a ship to a halt when the winds are low. Some ships have been found floating in the seaweed with no passengers. One ship, Fannia E. Wolston, floated for five years covering 7,025 miles. Spanish sailors often found themselves stranded for weeks and had to jettison their war horses to conserve water, which was why an area of the Sargasso Sea is called the Horse Latitudes . The passengers on board the Empire Windrush were predominately Jamaicans; but there were other nationalities of Australians, Mexican, Polish, and other people from the Caribbean islands. The docking of the Empire Windrush was a watershed moment, as Kushner explains that, on one side was the empires end, while on the other was a revision of what British meant. The age of the empire was when those living in Britain embarked on gaining territories for economic and prestige reasons, spreading civilisation. However, since the end of the Second World War, colonies were demanding independence, yet, for some who gained this independence, they still wanted some sense of British influence. This was the beginning of the British Commonwealth. As the Phillips brothers point out, however, prior to the Windrush arriving in Britain in 1947, there was a black population able to trace their lineage back a few centuries. Additionally, during the Second World War, about ten thousand West Indian men arrived in Britain, which was more than the entire pre war black population. Hence, Britain was not new to having a black population, the problem was the numbers of this population was increasing uncontrollably. Many of these passengers from the Commonwealth came to Britain because of its imperial importance on their countries. After the war, Western European countries experienced a labour shortage, ... • 43. Elizabeth Siddal And The Femme Fatale In pre Raphaelite paintings, a famously known model, Elizabeth Siddal appears as an idealised form of female body. In the 19th century, she was the central figure of the muse that often combined with man s fantasy and sensuality with poetic idealism. Although Rossetti and Siddal s marriage was not so idealised rather a tragedy, but they formed a relationship of an artist and the muse. After the death of Siddal, Rossetti departed from the notion of ideal women but he was preoccupied with the theme of Lilith in both his paintings and poetry. Rossetti manifested many of the demonized figure imagery, the femme fatal , in his art and to a certain extent, we could see that he was not free from the memory of his wronged wife. Furthermore, it is noteworthy that many male artists depicted the female body imagery in two categories, which are either the idealised, the muse or the cult of feminine beauty, the femme fatale. Those binary structured perception between the muse and the femme fatale have a strong relationship with the man s agony and anxiety over the female challenges that were emerging at different levels of society. Bear this ideas in mind, the paper attempts to explore the Lilith images in Rossetti s art with the particular focus on how the muse turned into femme fatale. Furthermore, it will discuss Rossetti s engagements with his wife, Elizabeth Siddal from the perspective of personal and psychological aspects. First, the paper will briefly discuss the ...
