Self Harm
Self harm is a growing and troubling trend. It s a frightening disorder, most common among women,
where hurt and alienation are expressed by injuring oneself. There are several kinds of self harm. Self
mutilation and various eating disorders are among the most common forms of self destruction. These
forms of self harm often lead to suicide. There are three types of self mutilation. The rarest and most
extreme form is Major self mutilation. This form usually results in permanent disfigurement, such as
castration or limb amputation. Another form is Stereo typical self mutilation. This usually consists of
head banging, eyeball pressing, and biting. The third and most common form is Superficial self
mutilation. This involves cutting, burning, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Counseling is usually the best answer to help one deal with the hurt they are feeling. Eating disorders
go hand in hand with self mutilation. Both are forms of self harm and many who suffer from eating
disorders also cut, burn, etc. Both are used to help the individual cope with, block out, and release
built up feelings and emotions. Several misconceptions are made about eating disorders and self
mutilation. Although most think that eating disorders are only a way to lose weight, often times,

Summary, Evaluation and Comparson of El Paso, Texas and...
Americans are not unfamiliar with the concept of a budget, in fact, most follow a budget on an
everyday basis, however, the topic of a public budget can be overwhelming to many them. Although
many Americans might have a small concept of how the federal budget works, very few are familiar
with their local budget process, and even less familiar to their adopted annual city budget. Every local
budget is as unique as the cities who developed them. The following paper will summarize, evaluate,
and compare El Paso Texas and San Diego California s 2012 budgets. It will compare their revenues,
expenditures, and budget format. It will attempt to analyze the similarities and differences and
determine the causes of such similarities and differences. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

pride. El Paso is home to University of Texas at El Paso and Texas Tech University Health Sciences
Center at El Paso. El Paso has a strong federal and military community. Fort Bliss is one of the largest
military facilities of the United States Army and is still growing. El Paso is known as the Sun City do
to the fact that the sun shines 300 days a year (www.elpasotexas.gov Home, 2013).
San Diego fiscal year begins on July 1st. There are four major players in San Diego Budget process:
The Mayor, City Council, the Office of the Office of the Independent Budget Analyst (IBA), and the
citizens of San Diego. San Diego city government is a Strong Mayor/ Strong Council form of
government. The Mayor manages the City and creates the Proposed Annual Budget. The Mayor and
his/her staff is responsible for constructing the proposed annual budget by working with Chief
Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and other City Staff. The mayor and his office are
responsible for implementing the adopted annual budget and proposing any modifications throughout
the year. The Mayor may veto changes made by the Council. The Council s responsibility is to
reviewing the Mayor s Proposed Annual Budget and contemplates concerns from community through

Film Techniques In The Film War Of The Worlds
How does the director Steven Spielberg, use film techniques to convey one or more themes in his film,
War of the Worlds?
Steven Spielberg utilizes many techniques, in his film, War of the Worlds, including camera work,
actors and sound effects to convey various themes such as family relationships. An initial scene, Eve
of the War , establishes the relationships amongst the family especially around the central character
Ray Ferrier (Tom Cruise) which are built upon in Coming of the Invaders . Worst of Man is a turning
point in the story where Ray s character is developed to reveal the love for his children. In The Fight
Begins , Spielberg uses sound effects to convey the development in Robbie s relationship with Ray.

Worst of Man is essentially a turning point in the story where the audience witnesses Ray s love for
his children. Robbie wears his cap backwards. Spielberg uses this symbolism to show Robbie s youth
and rebellion against his father. The director uses sound effects to establish the danger at the war zone
where the military is attempting to fight off the alien. After Ray hands the car over to Robbie, he
wears his cap correctly because he is given adult like responsibilities. Not only that, but Ray trusts
Robbie which shows how the theme of family relationships develops. Later in the scene, Robbie hands
the car over to Ray as they approach a mob of people showing that he still relies on his him and this
demonstrates the change in their relationship. This also is supported because for the first time in the
film Robbie calls Ray dad . When the crowd is still attacking Robbie and his father, Ray gets attention
with his gun. He asks Where is my son? and when their car is almost lost, Ray wants the daughter not
the car . Both of these examples of dialogue in the scene and his actions shows how their relationship
is changing and to what extent he will go to save the lives of his children. In a later scene, The Fight
Begins , Spielberg uses sound effects and dialogue to show the trust and belief between Robbie and
Ray. Distant sounds of machine guns and bombs convey the

Research Paper On Glossophobia
Glossophobia a fear of public speaking is pretty common amongst people. Almost everyone suffers
from the fear of not performing well in front of others, at least to some degree. It is only natural to feel
scared because humans are wired to be concerned about what others think about us. We get a sense of
importance when we know other people admire and acknowledge the work that we do. A perfect
example of this is how and why we post the coolest things we do on Facebook. We post things to
please the audience of our posts. Or another way to put it, we post on Facebook because we seek the
validation of people viewing our Facebook profiles. This does not necessarily build our confidence,
but it simply goes to show that we all care about what everyone else thinks about us, and that is not
necessarily a negative quality. It is only natural to feel so. In fact it is those people who care about
what people think about them who end up being successful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He fakes it! Take the example of Adele, who is now a Grammy award winning singer. She used to be
afraid of performing on stage. There are several other celebrities who are glossophobic, but don t seem
so at all Julia Roberts, Tiger Woods and Bruce Willis. All 3 of them are not only glossophobic but
even have a severe stuttering problem. They all faked it till they made it. So, now you can too! Some
good tips on how to fake confidence: your posture. When you are standing in front of an audience,
strike up a power pose think Superman or Wonderwoman. Observe how they stand up tall and appear
strong, confident and powerful. Your hands should be open so that you feel more comfortable or
appear so. If they are closed, your shoulders would end up slouching or bending and this may make
you feel more anxious. So, if you try striking this Superman/Wonderwoman power pose you will
instantly find yourself feeling confident. Just give it a

The Rights Of Gay And Lesbian Parents
Imagine being told, by law, you couldn t have a family of your own because of lifestyle choices. There
are 251,695 same sex married couples in the U.S, as of 2013, that had to deal with difficulties while
building their family whereas a hetrosexual couple could just simply do what was needed. Stereotypes
and false research have hindered same sex couples all over the U.S because it has put some doubt into
the minds of very powerful people causing them to create laws on what a family should be. Fear that
our future children will end up lesser than the high standards we already hold them to causes
important people to create these laws to somehow protect them. The lack of their research and
insensitivity has created this war between same sex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of the initial studies exploring the effects that gay and lesbian parents had on their children s
gender role behavior and identity used novel methods of determining how well the children s
conceptions of gender fit those of their heterosexually parented peers. Studies of younger children
often placed participants in a room with many traditionally gendered toys and observed which toys
were most played with over the course of the study. Others interviewed the parents about the toys that
their children independently chose to play with as well as the activities that they independently
engaged in. Older children were asked to draw pictures of themselves or pictures of men and women
engaged in an activity.
Qualitative studies interviewed children and parents about favorite television shows, extracurricular
activities and vocational aspirations. Although some studies found minor differences, such as the
daughters of lesbian mothers showing greater interest in traditionally masculine activities and
behaviors and the sons of lesbian mothers expressing wider ranges of behaviors, less aggression and
less play activities, the results consistently demonstrated that children of heterosexual and gay or
lesbian parents did not significantly differ overall in terms of gender role behavior or gender identity
development. The summit of the studies concluded gay and lesbian parents cannot affect their children
s gender development or hinder how they view gender roles. Despite

Separation Of Church And State Essay
Separation of Church and State
By the middle of the 20th Century, the United States had emerged as a world power. It accomplished
this through its leadership in defeating Germany and
Japan in World War II. These two countries main objective was to enslave the world and destroy
political, religious, and economic freedom. In Germany or
Japan, anyone who disagreed with these goals, or was different was destroyed.
This was a common practice in these two fascist countries. Unfortunately, at the same time of its
emergence as a world power, the United States began to slip into a form of judicial fascism. This slide
began when the U.S. Supreme Court began to abandon the religious principles on which this nation
was founded.

The Supreme Court says that these men s intent was to keep religion and politics separate. John
Quincy Adams, in a speech on July 4,1837 asked the crowd, Why is it, that next to the birthday of the
Savior of the World, your most joyous and venerated festival returns on this day? He goes on to
explain the important ties between the birthday of the nation and the birthday of Jesus Christ. He says
that the Declaration of Independence was first organized on the foundation of Jesus mission on Earth,
and that the Declaration laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of
Christianity. Adams stressed that the major impact of the Revolution was that Christian principles and
civil government were connected in an indissoluble bond. (Barton, America s p.17)
Why is the Supreme Court blind to such evidence as this? John Quincy Adams was an extremely well
educated man, so he is a very reliable source.
Other Founding Fathers were very outspoken about Christian beliefs.
John Jay, the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and one of the men most responsible for the
Constitution declared, Providence(heaven) has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is
the duty, as well as the privilege and interest, of our Christian nation to select and prefer Christian
rulers.

Bushcraft Vs Survival Research Paper
THE INTRODUCTION
In many blogs and Youtube videos that I ve seen, there are countless of discussions about bushcraft vs
survival (craft), what do they mean and what are the differences between them? It s true that there are
undeniable similarities about them because they tend to involve the wilderness and the outdoors,
shelter, fire, water, etc. However, in fact the two things are quite different. In this post I d like to
briefly talk about what each one is, how they differ from each other and why it s important to
understand the differences. Keep in mind that these are my opinions and you may or may not agree, it
s all good.
DIFFERENT IN DEFINITIONS
First of all, I want to mention the basic meaning of those two things so that we can see the differences
in theory. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mean while Bushcraft is defined as:
Skill in anything pertaining in bush country.
Ability and experience in matters concerns with living in the bush.
I tend to break it down like this:
A survival situation is any kind of events (usually short term, about 72 hours or less, though some can
go much longer) that required you to take action to save your life or other s life. The main goal here is
not only just survival but to return home, either through rescue and search team or your own
navigational ability.
Bushcraft is completely different, where it implies a long term strategy and unnecessarily an
unexpected circumstance or an instant danger to life. People into bushcraft often go into wilderness
intentionally with minimal amount of gears to test their abilities and horn their skills, not to survive
but to exist and thrive in the nature.
So basically in survival (craft), you stuck in the wilderness and try to find your way back to
civilization while in bushcraft, you use your refined skills to make comfort out of the situation. It is
perhaps in the mindset of the person who do the

Contribution Of Entrepreneurs And New Zealand Business...
Introduction
The Investopedia defines the entrepreneur as a person who starts his own business by taking lot of
risks. (Entrepreneur, 2014). Most of the large organisations around the world have been started by
entrepreneurs. The contribution of entrepreneurs to a country s business environment holds a high
value. EY Entrepreneur of The Year Award s Director, Jon Hooper stated that Successful entrepreneurs
have an extraordinary passion, self belief and that keeps them going when others might give up.
Because of this, they are able to make a significant contribution to New Zealand s economy and to the
community by creating jobs, driving productivity, fuelling growth and inspiring others (EY, 2014).
Entrepreneurs are contributing in various ways to the business environment and some of them will be
by providing employment, growing economy, innovating new technologies, creating market
competitiveness and also by providing contributions to the society. Therefore, this essay is a critical
evaluation of the contribution of entrepreneurs to the New Zealand business environment.
Contribution to the New Zealand Employment
According to the New Zealand treasury, nearly one out of 7 adults is an entrepreneur in New Zealand.
Entrepreneurship always creates job opportunities for the educated qualified people as well as for the
people who don t have much education qualifications. Entrepreneurship is one of the factors to reduce
unemployment rate in New Zealand. New Zealand s Total

ABSTRACT
Data mining is the process of releasing concealed information from a large set of database and it can
help researchers gain both narrative and deep insights of exceptional understanding of large
biomedical datasets. Data mining can exhibit new biomedical and healthcare knowledge for clinical
decision making. Medical assessment is very important but complicated problem that should be
performed efficiently and accurately. The goal of this paper is to discuss the research contributions of
data mining to solve the complex problem of Medical diagnosis prediction. This paper also reviews
the various techniques along with their pros and cons. Among various data mining techniques,
evaluation of classification is widely adopted for supporting medical diagnostic decisions.

novel, inherently efficient and perspicuous patterns of data. Figure 1 represents the data mining as part
of KDD process. The hidden relationships and trends are not precisely distinct from reviewing the
data. Data mining is a multi level process involves extracting the data by retrieving and assembling

Analysis Of The Man In The Water By Roger Rosenblatt
The Good of Human Nature
The Man in the Water , by Roger Rosenblatt, tells a story of how a man gave his life to help four other
strangers survive. An airplane clipped a bridge and took a dive into the Pontiac river in Washington
DC. There were five survivors left clinging to the tail section of the airplane, when helicopters and
boats reached them. The best we can do when faced with adversity is to display the good nature in
ourselves. Our man in the water , put his life at stake. Every time the rescue team lowered a lifeline
and floatation ring to the man, he gave it to the other strangers. For at some moment in the water he
must have realized that he would not live if he continued to hand over the rope and the ring to others.
When our man in the water realized that he had to choose between life and helping the strangers, he
picked the more honorable decision, thus responsible for helping save four lives for the price of his
own. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everyone feels the possibilities in themselves. Now, when our lives are on the line, or when faced with
temptation, it is very easy to overlook this thought of good nature and obtain what you are seeking,
only thinking about yourself and not thinking of the effects. But, the thought is still there, and if we
are all capable to listen to the thought, and do the best decision with the best outcome.
This inspired people who witnessed it to be the best person that they can be, despite being faced with a
crisis or not. His selflessness was one reason the story held national attention, his anonymity another.
This opened the nations eyes. Seeing how courageous and selfless this action was shocked them. His
anonymity showed us that his motive was not driven by fame and glory with a hero title, but it was his
good nature to give of himself to others for no glory or self pleasure at all was

Allotment And Assimilation Era
The Allotment and Assimilation Era was characterized by two different policies. These were allotment
and boarding schools. These periods happened in the time period of about 1887 to 1934. The allotment
policy approach was started with The General Allotment Act of 1887 (Dawes Act). This was a grant of
160 acres to each head of a family. Fewer acres were given to single people or minors. The allotted
lands then had to be held in a trust for 25 years in order for the occupant to get the title to the land. If
an Indian were to be alloted land or leave their way of life in a tribe, they could get Citizenship. The
goal was to get the Indians to adopt a civilized life and quicken the civilizing process assimilation.
This caused a change in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because this affected everyone in the tribe when a child went to boarding school. The parents
and family members were ripped away from the child. The family members also lost their chance to
pass on intergenerational knowledge to their children that they viewed as highly important. The entire
tribal community was shaken because of the literal loss of a member. The impact on the child was
even worse. The effect was immediate and long lasting. They were essentially forced to drop their past
way of life and adopt an entirely alien culture that the tribal community often viewed as distasteful.
This acculturation caused long term psychological impact on the families and children that were
affected. The children were put through a type of culture machine that they entered as Natives and left
as revamped Anglo citizens. This assimilation often destroyed the child s sense of belonging in either
an Anglo or Native setting because they were raised in both and had mixed feelings about where they
belonged. They often lost their Native language and culture, and they felt a sense of shame about their
Native community and culture. All of these things add up to cause a major immediate impact on the
lives of Native

Effects Of Emancipation Laws
Emancipation is a legal procedure where a minor can become freed from their legal guardian under
circumstances. The minor becomes responsible for themselves financially and otherwise and can no
longer depend on anyone else. A minor can become emancipated one of two ways; through a court
order or without legal declaration but with guardians permission. Emancipation laws can differ
depending on the state. Diamond v. Diamond demonstrates the court process in which a minor took to

taking place in the state of New Mexico. Jhette Diamond had miraculously been living without any
support from her own mother since the age of thirteen. Jhette got her first job at the age of eleven at a
restaurant as a server and busser while keeping a high grade point average throughout high school
(being a sophomore at the time of emancipation). Counsel described her as thriving and focused on
her future. Jhette initially moved out of her mother s home due to domestic violence and substance
abuse. Jhette claims that such actions had been triggered by the man her mother had maintained a
relationship with. Since the court found that Jhette had been living independently and managing her
own financial affairs an order of emancipation was ruled. It was known to be a classic case of
emancipation. Jhette asked the court if the order of emancipation could be styled to reserve her right to
receive financial support from her mother since she had not been at all financially supported before
nor after she had left home. The court agreed as counsel provided that the Act (New Mexico

Comparing Brutus And Cassius In Shakespeare s Julius Ceasar
In Shakespeare s Julius Ceasar , Brutus and Cassius are very important characters, sharing many
similarities and differences. Brutus is a more dominant and noble character, honest and naive. Cassius
is a more manipulative, perceptive character. They both take part in the more dramatic scenes and are
essential to the play itself. They differ in the way they perceive Antony as a threat to the assassination
plot, their dominance in personality, and their moral obligation. To begin with, an important similarity
of Cassius and Brutus is that they re both two of the most noble and honorable people in Rome, and
both end up in the going down similar paths throughout the story. They re both conspirators that
assassinated Caesar and in the end they both fought the battle against Antony and Octavius, both
Cassius and Brutus died the same way. However, despite them having had similar roles and plots they

Cryptography
The practice and study in securing communication between parties in presence of potential
adversaries. A cryptographic algorithm or cipher is a mathematical function used in a plaintext in the
encryption and decryption process. A cryptographic algorithm works in combination with a key
(number, word, or phrase) to encrypt the plaintext. The same plaintext also encrypts to different cipher
text with the use of different keys. The core of modern cryptography is the construction and
analyzation of protocols of various aspects in information security such as data integrity and
confidentiality, authentication, and non repudiation.
Modern practice of cryptography involves cryptographic method.
First cryptographic method is the Symmetric Key Algorithm also known as Secret key Cryptography.
The symmetry of algorithm comes from both parties involved sharing the same key for both data
encryption and decryption. It works like a physical door where anyone who has the right locking and
unlocking uses a copy of the same key. Symmetric key Algorithm works by taking the message and
combining it with a shared key that inputs the algorithm then outputs a ciphered message.
Two ways of symmetric key algorithm encryption involve block ciphers and stream ciphers.
Stream cipher is a symmetric key cipher where plaintext digits are combined with a pseudorandom
cipher digit stream (keystream). In astream cipher each plaintext digit is encrypted one at a time with

Dr. Kaplan s Practice At Boone Hospital
I received an assignment to investigate a complaint on Dr. Michael Kaplan on 11/20/2014 regarding
some concerns raised about Dr. Kaplan s practice at Boone Hospital. These concerns triggered an
investigation by the medical executive committee (MEC). Dr. Kaplan elected to retire from the
hospital, resign his medical staff appointment and clinical privileges. This was reported to the Board
of Healing Arts and to the National Practitioner Databank.
After serving a subpoena for the investigation at Boone Hospital, I received approximately 108 pages
of documents from Nancy Tune, RN on 01/07/2015. In these documents I found that Dr. John J.
Seaberg, M.D. had observed on March 14, 2014 Chris Kaplan dissect the implant pocket for a breast
augmentation using the electro cautery and use a #10 scalpel blade to make the skin incision for an
abdominoplasty while Dr. Mike Kaplan was sitting beside the operating table with his hands folded on
the patient watching his wife operate.
Mrs. Kaplan is not a nurse or a doctor. Dr. Seaberg believes that this is a violation of 334.2(4)d and
334.040. He feels that she is not qualified by training, skill, competency, age, experience, or licensure
to perform such responsibilities.
There is a copy of a letter from Dr. Seaberg to Mark Cohen, M.D. Chief of Staff of Boone hospital
stating the above.
This matter was referred to the Medical Executive Committee (MEC) to investigate this incident and
Dr. Mike Kaplan s fitness to perform surgery.

Analysis Of Ellen Lee Degeneres s The Daughter Of Betty...
Ellen Lee DeGeneres was born and raised in Metairie, Louisiana the daughter of Betty Degeneres (née
Elizabeth Jane Pfeffer), a speech therapist, and Elliott Everett DeGeneres, an insurance agent. She has
one brother, Vance, a musician and producer. She is of French, English, German, and Irish descent.
She was raised as a Christian scientist until age 13. In 1973, her parents filed for separation and were
divorced the following year. Shortly after, Ellen s mother married Roy Gruessendorf, a salesman.
Betty Jane and Ellen moved with Gruessendorf from the New Orleans area to Atlanta, Texas. Vance
stayed with his father. On a February 2011 episode of her show, she told her studio audience of a letter
from the New England historic Genealogical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was also profiled in detail on ABC s Primetime Live.
Her wit won over audiences, and DeGeneres finally found success as an actress with her own prime
time sitcom the self titled television series, Ellen. The series was originally titled These Friends of
Mine but was renamed in 1994. From that point, the show evolved from its beginnings as an ensemble
effort into a showcase for DeGeneres.
The show faced strong criticism when, in April 1997, DeGeneres s character became the first lead in
sitcom history to openly acknowledge her homosexuality on air. An ABC affiliate in Birmingham,
Alabama, refused to air the landmark episode. Fearing controversy, some of the show s sponsors,
Daimler Chrysler among them, withdrew advertisements.
Several episodes following her reveal had gay themes and, throughout the remainder of the season,
DeGeneres and ABC executives faced a storm of criticism. But the show also received rounds of
applause from gay friendly activists including DeGeneres s mother, Betty DeGeneres, who appeared
on numerous talk shows in support of her daughter. Despite a supportive audience, an Emmy Award
for the coming out episode and the show s groundbreaking place in television history, Ellen was
canceled in 1998.
But DeGeneres had already made the move to the big screen, starring in the dark comedy Mr. Wrong

My Experience To The Museum Of Modern Art
When I visited the Museum of Modern Art, the exhibits were fascinating, intense, but interesting. Out
of all the pieces, only two types of art stood out to me; Asian and African art. There were two
sculptures that displayed extreme value from not only the culture but from the artists who created
them. It was intriguing to see what my perspective and the people s beliefs and usage of the sculptures
meant at the time. And to also look into the great value and historical meaning behind them. I will
discuss how I encountered the pieces and how they both looked like through my up close observation
of them.
The museum was very crowded when I arrived as well. There was an extraordinary amount of Greek,
Egyptian, and Roman Catholic art pieces being displayed. Which is why I struggled trying to look for
art pieces that were related to what topics about our art history class. Once I came back for the second
time, I finally found a way to find the appropriate art pieces to write about. The organization of the
pieces being presented was nice but hard to locate. Even with using the map, I realized that if the
musuem is too busy, that it will be very easy to get lost. Luckily, I asked a lot of people to help guide
me so I could find what I am looking for. In the end, I finally got the background information of the
art pieces I needed. By the way, finding the Nolan Library was extremely hard and I had to ask about
three people.

From the Forum you can still clearly see the remains of the lower floor of the Tabularium, now
situated below the Palazzo Senatorio.
The Middle Ages
During the exile of the popes in Avignon Rome became depopulated and the Capitoline Hill was even
used as a goat pasture, which gave it the name Monte Caprino (goat mountain). By the sixteenth
century the Renaissance brought a revival of Rome s grandeur and with it a complete redesign of its
heart, the Capitoline Hill. In 1536 Michelangelo drew up plans for a new square between the two
hilltops, the Piazza del Campidoglio.
The Capitoline Hill Today
Today only traces of the ancient temples are visible. Instead a huge nineteenth century monument built

Commedia Dell Arte and Influences on Modern Theatre
Commedia dell Arte is an interesting form of acting in the history of theatre. During the 16th, 17th and
18th century, in the midst of the renaissance, there was a very delightful source of entertainment that
people where privy too. This archaic form of acting was based around improvising and the use of
masks. I am comparing this to modern day comedy since I have seen direct examples on television,
which use this method of acting, in modern day shows. The fact that some of these performers were
verging on genius is without dispute. Contemporary performers have looked into the past finding
resourceful techniques to further illustrate comedy to their peers.
The first question is why use Commedia Dell Arte as a training tool for modern ... Show more content

Fusing together these elements, a mask maker produces a shape that is no longer purely human.
Hence, if a human wears this mask, there are discrepancies between mask and body, which counteract
each other s expressiveness. It becomes necessary, therefore, for the human to adjust his or her body
shape to fit the mask. The design and style that comes from the three elements of mask design allow
the actor at any point to move into animal movement, devilishly bad behavior or simply carry out the
order of the plot in role.
This juncture is an ideal place to start feeding specific instances of the characters body language.
Those who are capable of exploring attitudes, energy levels, and their own inner resources can be
guided through that process. Those who need more encouragement, and have not yet learned to trust
the passion for discovery or their own emotions can be given more hard concrete information to work
with. The middle path must be looked for, and in this there is the whole tradition of the commedia dell
arte to help. A character survives on stage because it is alive. One of the problems any performer or
actor faces is selecting his or her material. In traditional Commedia Dell Arte, this is key to success,
and is needed on a moment to moment basis. However, what becomes clear after a while is that
commedia dell arte works best as an ensemble art form. Which is true in theatre

Philosophy for Children Essay
I. The concept of the Community of Inquiry
Central to the heart of P4C lies the notion of a community of inquiry. Originally a term from Pierce to
reference interaction among scientists, the concept of COI dominates the discussion of educational
revisionism as presented by commentators on the P4C movement. The key description marking a COI
is: a group (a social setting) of individuals who use dialogue (interaction among participants) to search
out the problematic borders of a puzzling concept (inquiry as philosophical.) Implicit in the ideal
workings of this group are two key concepts:
a demonstration of thinking that is caring (each member is supported and allowed to be an integral
member of the community), creative (new ideas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Two of these controversial issues are:
the ontological nature of the individual vs. that of the community the criteria of a good reason (the
question of truth) or discovery vs. construction
It is important to recognize the presence of these issues within the P4C method and to explore how
these issues color our vision of that method. We will note certain tensions among writers about P4C in
terms of which metaphysical vision best embraces the ideals behind the COI. In the sections below I
will suggest also a series of questions that are provoked by discussions of the COI which will
hopefully lead to further reflection and dialogue with the P4C community itself.
II. Individual vs. Community
In his article The Five Communities (1) David Kennedy offers us a rich differentiation of a COI into
communities of gesture, language, mind, love, and interest. (2) The concepts of gesture and language
highlight the nuances of human communication that embrace physical stance, the unspoken
presentation of the body itself as response and the powerful nature of spoken language as enriched by
stress, pitch, contour and juncture (3) in addition to one s personal vocabulary and idiosyncratic use of
words. By his phrase, community of mind Kennedy attempts to capture a phenomenological sense of
mind as active agent immersed in a spatio temporal affective locus which is ever changing. He draws a
portrait of the situatedness of thought which nevertheless struggles to

The Development of Object Permanence
I never realized when I played Peek A Boo with different infants in my family, that I was teaching
them one of the most valuable lessons in their life. I just thought it was a game that infants liked to
play and it made them laugh. I didn t know that this was so funny to them because they were
fascinated with the fact that for one moment I wasn t there and a moment later I popped back up. Little
did I know I was teaching them one of their most important accomplishments. Adults and older
children never give a second thought to the fact that when something disappears out of sight that it
still exists. It never crosses our minds to think about when exactly did the ability to just know develop.

These infants will sometimes make the mistake referred to as the A not B mistake. If an object is
repeatedly hidden in a particular place, an infant of this age will continue to look for the object there
despite the fact that they may have watched you hide the object in another place. Infants this age are
working according to an automatic process. By the time they are in the fifth sub stage between the
ages of twelve and eighteen months infants tend to grow out of this automatic processing and they
begin to search for an object in the last place that they saw it hidden. Once an infant reaches the last
sub stage between the ages of eighteen and twenty four months he has mastered all the is to know
about object permanence according to Piaget(Siegler Alibali, 2005). Since Piaget made these claims
there have been many experiments done that sought to disprove the claims that Piaget made. These
experiments thought that Piaget was giving infants far less credit than they deserved. Other
developmental psychologist wanted to prove that in fact infants learned the concept of object
permanence at a much earlier age than Piaget first proposed. People came up with many different
ideas as to why the infants failed to reach or search for objects that were hidden. They wouldn t go as
far as to say that the infants just don

Snow Country Character Analysis
Snow Country A place or Emotional and Psychological state Snow country is a place in a Western
Japanese country, which we can consider as the setting of this novel. The expression does not mean
where snow falls. Though a place, Y. Kawabata, the writer of the novel writes in such a way that it
portrays more about love affair, human feelings, emotions, loneliness, and a state of a human in
isolation. Likewise, the novel reveals how human relationship can be complex and difficult at times to
understand. It tells about people in a relationship of love, trying to love, and connect to one another,
but difficult to connect. This is discovered also from the novel that, the closer they are, the farther they

It can then be deduced from the above statement that, there is a connection between the two of them
and this connection has a capacity to melt the snow, though both parties are unstable, and emotionally
distant from each other, but whenever Shimamura sees Komako he loves her. Likewise, when both are
apart, then winter comes again, which brings coldness, then isolation sets in them. The togetherness
brings warmth and intimacy, while the distance apart between them brings sadness, loneliness which
indirectly makes the word Snow Country to be a metaphor. Therefore, what is happening in Snow
Country as a place externally, reflects what is happening in these characters internally. Moreover,
Snow Country happening internally in the lives of these characters, especially Shimamura and
Komako, is revealed in many ways. For instance, Komako falls in love with Shimamura, but it is
expected of a geisha not to have any serious, extended romance with her guest. An affair of the
moment, no more. Nothing beautiful about it. You know that it couldn t last (22). Nevertheless, she
broke into tears because Shimamura disappointed her when he came the first time. ...he had not

In Vincent O’Sullivan’S Finding The Pattern, Solving The
In Vincent O Sullivan s Finding the Pattern, Solving the Problem: Katherine Mansfield The New

acted in several movies and that her letters frequently took up such images as the months that stream
by like a movie picture (18). Furthermore, her short story At the Bay begins with the line Very early
morning (Mansfield 5), that when interpreted from a literary standpoint, is more suited to a screenplay
direction than the opening of a narrative. From studying At the Bay, alongside The Garden Party and

The big bush covered hills (Mansfield 1) and sandy road with shallow puddles(2) of the opening are

from components of the setting, such as the tide to the sunlight (20) to the green binds...in the

replicating the manner in which they are portrayed.
This parallels Citizen Kane s News of the World sequence, a montage that uses accurate renditions of
a series of news segments, where newspapers and footage are both crafted to look as authentic and
possible, to create a realistic depiction of media coverage that encompasses the globe through the
different languages printed on certain newspapers. This of course brings different places together to
add to the legibility of the scene and thus its overall realism. Much like Mansfield, Welles uses the
idea of consistency and replication in his montage as a way of uniting it to the real world.
Yet this montage sequence in Citizen Kane fulfills another purpose. This scene takes place directly
after Kane s death, a sombre, moving moment. By directly contrasting that moment with a

Arguments Against Affirmative Action
Affirmative Action was a result of the 1960 s Civil Rights Movement, intended to provide equal
employment opportunities for members of minority groups and women in education and employment.
Affirmative Action refers to admission policies for historically excluded groups that provide equal
access and improve opportunities. President Kennedy gave the initial executive affirmative action
order to government contractors to ensure that applicants are employed and treated fairly under
employment, without regard to their race, religion, color, or national origin. This executive order also
established the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Initially, these policies were

Affirmative Action policies have shown effectiveness in increasing the number of minority applicants
and graduates who benefitted from these programs receive better jobs, earn more money, and
essentially live better lives because of the opportunities they received. According to the National
Conference of State Legislatures (2018), statistics show that after California abolished its affirmative
action programs in 1998, the minority student admissions at UC Berkeley fell 61 percent, and minority
admissions at UCLA fell 36 percent . The reality is not everybody is born into a high socioeconomic
status family, and individuals with a higher socioeconomic status have more opportunities than those
with low socioeconomic status. Affirmative action polices compensate for this social and economic
oppression. I do believe that certain racial and ethnic groups are disadvantaged because they are
frequently in lower income brackets consequently not exposed to the same resources than those in
higher income brackets. The notion of competition between students based on merit is still supported,
but affirmative Action does help compensate for economic

Insanity Defense Essay
Insanity is defined as a mental disorder of such severity as to render its victim incapable of managing
his affairs or conforming to social standards. (Insanity, pg. 1) It is used in court to state that the
defendant was not aware of what he/she was doing at the time of the crime, due to mental illnesses.
But insanity is a legal, not a medical, definition. There is a difference between mental illness and
going insane. Many problems are raised by the existence of the insanity defense. For example,
determining the patient s true mental illness (whether they are faking or not), placement of the
mentally ill after trial, the credibility of the psychological experts, the percentage of cases that are

This rule focuses on cognition, which alone is not enough to determine whether someone is mentally
disabled. The M Naghten rule remained the definition of the insanity defense up until 1954.
When the Durham case arose the insanity test was changed. Judge David Baezelon stated that, an
accused is not criminally responsible if his unlawful act was the product of mental disease or mental
defect. (Mental Health Law and the US Judicial System, pg 4) This was the foundation for the new
insanity test. Baezelon worked with psychologists and psychiatrists in developing the new test and in
1962 the Durham Rule was founded. It was said to be better than the M Naghten rule in that it
included both cognition and volitional impairment. The M Naghten rule didn t include volitional
impairment, which is an irresistible impulse while cognition impairment is not understanding the
quality of the act. The federal courts eventually rejected the Durham rule because its definition was
too broad. Alcoholics, compulsive gamblers and drug addicts had successfully used the defense to
defeat a wide variety of crimes.
In 1972, the American Law Institute (a panel of legal experts) developed a new rule for insanity as
part of the Model Penal Code. This rule says that a defendant is not responsible

Meaning Of Brutus In Shakespeare s Julius Caesar

in his return. 3. Flavius and Marullus are not working because of Caesar s worrying return and also
because of the feast of Lupercal. 4. A pun is a play on words. It is a humourous way to exploit

The plus size category refers to a range of silhouettes and sizes. Some women have small stature,

It has a definite meaning. It refers to a range of silhouettes and sizes. So here is the list of our models
and bloggers with their stature and size.
The views vary with respect to the plus sizes and there will inevitably be someone to oppose our
interpretation of the term. On the other hand, before commenting that this or that woman is not really
much more , ask yourself if you are not judging the body of another woman. What gives you the right
to judge whether or not a woman is plus size ?
Be receptive to the magnificent diversity of women plus sizes, and encourage each other by offering

Steven Spielberg utilizes many techniques, in his film, War of the Worlds, including camera work, actors and sound effects to convey various themes such as family relationships. An initial scene, Eve of the War , establishes the relationships amongst the family especially around the central character Ray Ferrier (Tom Cruise) which are built upon in Coming of the Invaders . Worst of Man is essentially a turning point in the story where the audience witnesses Ray s love for his children. Robbie wears his cap backwards. Spielberg uses this symbolism to show Robbie s youth and rebellion against his father. The director uses sound effects to establish the danger at the war zone where the military is attempting to fight off the alien. After Ray hands the car over to Robbie, he wears his cap correctly because he is given adult like responsibilities. Not only that, but Ray trusts Robbie which shows how the theme of family relationships develops. Later in the scene, Robbie hands the car over to Ray as they approach a mob of people showing that he still relies on his him and this demonstrates the change in their relationship. This also is supported because for the first time in the film Robbie calls Ray dad . When the crowd is still attacking Robbie and his father, Ray gets attention with his gun. He asks Where is my son? and when their car is almost lost, Ray wants the daughter not the car . Both of these examples of dialogue in the scene and his actions shows how their relationship is changing and to what extent he will go to save the lives of his children. In a later scene, The Fight Begins , Spielberg uses sound effects and dialogue to show the trust and belief between Robbie and Ray. Distant sounds of machine guns and bombs convey the ... Almost everyone suffers from the fear of not performing well in front of others, at least to some degree. It is only natural to feel scared because humans are wired to be concerned about what others think about us. We get a sense of importance when we know other people admire and acknowledge the work that we do. A perfect example of this is how and why we post the coolest things we do on Facebook. We post things to please the audience of our posts. Or another way to put it, we post on Facebook because we seek the validation of people viewing our Facebook profiles. This does not necessarily build our confidence, but it simply goes to show that we all care about what everyone else thinks about us, and that is not necessarily a negative quality. Many of the initial studies exploring the effects that gay and lesbian parents had on their children s gender role behavior and identity used novel methods of determining how well the children s conceptions of gender fit those of their heterosexually parented peers. Studies of younger children often placed participants in a room with many traditionally gendered toys and observed which toys were most played with over the course of the study. Others interviewed the parents about the toys that their children independently chose to play with as well as the activities that they independently engaged in. Older children were asked to draw pictures of themselves or pictures of men and women engaged in an activity. Qualitative studies interviewed children and parents about favorite television shows, extracurricular activities and vocational aspirations. Although some studies found minor differences, such as the daughters of lesbian mothers showing greater interest in traditionally masculine activities and behaviors and the sons of lesbian mothers expressing wider ranges of behaviors, less aggression and less play activities, the results consistently demonstrated that children of heterosexual and gay or lesbian parents did not significantly differ overall in terms of gender role behavior or gender identity development. The summit of the studies concluded gay and lesbian parents cannot affect their children s gender development or hinder how they view gender roles. Despite ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These two countries main objective was to enslave the world and destroy political, religious, and economic freedom. In Germany or Japan, anyone who disagreed with these goals, or was different was destroyed. This was a common practice in these two fascist countries. John Quincy Adams, in a speech on July 4,1837 asked the crowd, Why is it, that next to the birthday of the Savior of the World, your most joyous and venerated festival returns on this day? He goes on to explain the important ties between the birthday of the nation and the birthday of Jesus Christ. He says that the Declaration of Independence was first organized on the foundation of Jesus mission on Earth, and that the Declaration laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity. Adams stressed that the major impact of the Revolution was that Christian principles and civil government were connected in an indissoluble bond. Bushcraft Vs Survival Research Paper THE INTRODUCTION In many blogs and Youtube videos that I ve seen, there are countless of discussions about bushcraft vs survival (craft), what do they mean and what are the differences between them? It s true that there are undeniable similarities about them because they tend to involve the wilderness and the outdoors, shelter, fire, water, etc. However, in fact the two things are quite different. In this post I d like to briefly talk about what each one is, how they differ from each other and why it s important to understand the differences. Keep in mind that these are my opinions and you may or may not agree, it s all good. DIFFERENT IN DEFINITIONS First of all, I want to mention the basic meaning of those two things so that we can see the differences in theory. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mean while Bushcraft is defined as: Skill in anything pertaining in bush country. Ability and experience in matters concerns with living in the bush. I tend to break it down like this: A survival situation is any kind of events (usually short term, about 72 hours or less, though some can go much longer) that required you to take action to save your life or other s life. The main goal here is not only just survival but to return home, either through rescue and search team or your own navigational ability. Bushcraft is completely different, where it implies a long term strategy and unnecessarily an unexpected circumstance or an instant danger to life. People into bushcraft often go into wilderness intentionally with minimal amount of gears to test their abilities and horn their skills, not to survive but to exist and thrive in the nature. So basically in survival (craft), you stuck in the wilderness and try to find your way back to civilization while in bushcraft, you use your refined skills to make comfort out of the situation. • 13. Analysis Of The Man In The Water By Roger Rosenblatt The Good of Human Nature The Man in the Water , by Roger Rosenblatt, tells a story of how a man gave his life to help four other strangers survive. An airplane clipped a bridge and took a dive into the Pontiac river in Washington DC. There were five survivors left clinging to the tail section of the airplane, when helicopters and boats reached them. The best we can do when faced with adversity is to display the good nature in ourselves. Our man in the water , put his life at stake. Every time the rescue team lowered a lifeline and floatation ring to the man, he gave it to the other strangers. For at some moment in the water he must have realized that he would not live if he continued to hand over the rope and the ring to others. When our man in the water realized that he had to choose between life and helping the strangers, he picked the more honorable decision, thus responsible for helping save four lives for the price of his own. ... These periods happened in the time period of about 1887 to 1934. The allotment policy approach was started with The General Allotment Act of 1887 (Dawes Act). This was a grant of 160 acres to each head of a family. Fewer acres were given to single people or minors. The allotted lands then had to be held in a trust for 25 years in order for the occupant to get the title to the land. They were essentially forced to drop their past way of life and adopt an entirely alien culture that the tribal community often viewed as distasteful. This acculturation caused long term psychological impact on the families and children that were affected. The children were put through a type of culture machine that they entered as Natives and left as revamped Anglo citizens. This assimilation often destroyed the child s sense of belonging in either an Anglo or Native setting because they were raised in both and had mixed feelings about where they belonged. A cryptographic algorithm or cipher is a mathematical function used in a plaintext in the encryption and decryption process. A cryptographic algorithm works in combination with a key (number, word, or phrase) to encrypt the plaintext. The same plaintext also encrypts to different cipher text with the use of different keys. The core of modern cryptography is the construction and analyzation of protocols of various aspects in information security such as data integrity and confidentiality, authentication, and non repudiation. Modern practice of cryptography involves cryptographic method. First cryptographic method is the Symmetric Key Algorithm also known as Secret key Cryptography. The symmetry of algorithm comes from both parties involved sharing the same key for both data encryption and decryption. It works like a physical door where anyone who has the right locking and unlocking uses a copy of the same key. Symmetric key Algorithm works by taking the message and combining it with a shared key that inputs the algorithm then outputs a ciphered message. Two ways of symmetric key algorithm encryption involve block ciphers and stream ciphers. This archaic form of acting was based around improvising and the use of masks. I am comparing this to modern day comedy since I have seen direct examples on television, which use this method of acting, in modern day shows. Fusing together these elements, a mask maker produces a shape that is no longer purely human. Hence, if a human wears this mask, there are discrepancies between mask and body, which counteract each other s expressiveness. It becomes necessary, therefore, for the human to adjust his or her body shape to fit the mask. The design and style that comes from the three elements of mask design allow the actor at any point to move into animal movement, devilishly bad behavior or simply carry out the order of the plot in role. This juncture is an ideal place to start feeding specific instances of the characters body language. Those who are capable of exploring attitudes, energy levels, and their own inner resources can be guided through that process. Originally a term from Pierce to reference interaction among scientists, the concept of COI dominates the discussion of educational revisionism as presented by commentators on the P4C movement. The key description marking a COI is: a group (a social setting) of individuals who use dialogue (interaction among participants) to search out the problematic borders of a puzzling concept (inquiry as philosophical.) Implicit in the ideal workings of this group are two key concepts: a demonstration of thinking that is caring (each member is supported and allowed to be an integral member of the community), creative (new ideas ... We will note certain tensions among writers about P4C in terms of which metaphysical vision best embraces the ideals behind the COI. In the sections below I will suggest also a series of questions that are provoked by discussions of the COI which will hopefully lead to further reflection and dialogue with the P4C community itself. II. Individual vs. Community In his article The Five Communities (1) David Kennedy offers us a rich differentiation of a COI into communities of gesture, language, mind, love, and interest. However, we need balance in our communication skills, verbal and written, not too complex or simple, but effective enough to communicate with a distinctive professional voice. In my disciplines (Social Work and Art Education), there are several different levels; one of those is learning to speak the language of scholarly art educators such as, having knowledge of the different art ... In Vincent O’Sullivan’S Finding The Pattern, Solving The In Vincent O Sullivan s Finding the Pattern, Solving the Problem: Katherine Mansfield The New Zealand European, it is noted that Katherine Mansfield was an enthusiast for the cinema , that she acted in several movies and that her letters frequently took up such images as the months that stream by like a movie picture (18). Furthermore, her short story At the Bay begins with the line Very early morning (Mansfield 5), that when interpreted from a literary standpoint, is more suited to a screenplay direction than the opening of a narrative. From studying At the Bay, alongside The Garden Party and Miss Brill, it is evident that her love of cinema influences her own writing, to the point where techniques that are prominently filmic, such ... The big bush covered hills (Mansfield 1) and sandy road with shallow puddles(2) of the opening are made evident that they re not situated by the weed hung rocks and small rock pools (20) of a later section, yet the consistency of the style in which each area is described, the narrative voice wandering from components of the setting, such as the tide to the sunlight (20) to the green binds...in the bungalows (21) and the pawa shells (21), not unlike a montage, unite the set of surroundings by replicating the manner in which they are portrayed. This parallels Citizen Kane s News of the World sequence, a montage that uses accurate renditions of a series of news segments, where newspapers and footage are both crafted to look as authentic and possible, to create a realistic depiction of media coverage that encompasses the globe through the different languages printed on certain newspapers. This of course brings different places together to add to the legibility of the scene and thus its overall realism. Much like Mansfield, Welles uses the idea of consistency and replication in his montage as a way of uniting it to the real world. Yet this montage sequence in Citizen Kane fulfills another purpose. This scene takes place directly after Kane s death, a sombre, moving moment. By directly contrasting that moment with a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Arguments Against Affirmative Action Affirmative Action was a result of the 1960 s Civil Rights Movement, intended to provide equal employment opportunities for members of minority groups and women in education and employment. Affirmative Action refers to admission policies for historically excluded groups that provide equal access and improve opportunities. President Kennedy gave the initial executive affirmative action order to government contractors to ensure that applicants are employed and treated fairly under employment, without regard to their race, religion, color, or national origin. This executive order also established the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Initially, these policies were focused on improving the lives of African Americans in education and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Affirmative Action policies have shown effectiveness in increasing the number of minority applicants and graduates who benefitted from these programs receive better jobs, earn more money, and essentially live better lives because of the opportunities they received. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures (2018), statistics show that after California abolished its affirmative action programs in 1998, the minority student admissions at UC Berkeley fell 61 percent, and minority admissions at UCLA fell 36 percent . The reality is not everybody is born into a high socioeconomic status family, and individuals with a higher socioeconomic status have more opportunities than those with low socioeconomic status. Affirmative action polices compensate for this social and economic oppression. I do believe that certain racial and ethnic groups are disadvantaged because they are frequently in lower income brackets consequently not exposed to the same resources than those in higher income brackets. The notion of competition between students based on merit is still supported, but affirmative Action does help compensate for economic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Insanity Defense Essay Insanity is defined as a mental disorder of such severity as to render its victim incapable of managing his affairs or conforming to social standards. (Insanity, pg. 1) It is used in court to state that the defendant was not aware of what he/she was doing at the time of the crime, due to mental illnesses. But insanity is a legal, not a medical, definition. There is a difference between mental illness and going insane. Many problems are raised by the existence of the insanity defense. For example, determining the patient s true mental illness (whether they are faking or not), placement of the mentally ill after trial, the credibility of the psychological experts, the percentage of cases that are actually successful, ... The M Naghten rule remained the definition of the insanity defense up until 1954. When the Durham case arose the insanity test was changed. Judge David Baezelon stated that, an accused is not criminally responsible if his unlawful act was the product of mental disease or mental defect. (Mental Health Law and the US Judicial System, pg 4) This was the foundation for the new insanity test. Baezelon worked with psychologists and psychiatrists in developing the new test and in 1962 the Durham Rule was founded. It was said to be better than the M Naghten rule in that it included both cognition and volitional impairment. The M Naghten rule didn t include volitional impairment, which is an irresistible impulse while cognition impairment is not understanding the quality of the act. The federal courts eventually rejected the Durham rule because its definition was too broad. Alcoholics, compulsive gamblers and drug addicts had successfully used the defense to defeat a wide variety of crimes. In 1972, the American Law Institute (a panel of legal experts) developed a new rule for insanity as part of the Model Penal Code. This rule says that a defendant is not responsible ...
