Amtrak Train Derailment
Who are the stakeholders in this case?
The stakeholders in this case are the passengers, crew and their families, aboard the Amtrak train that
derailed. They are also the corporate investors who hold stock in Amtrak and all Amtrak employees
who have invested their time in employment with the organization. They could easily lose their jobs if
a major layoff occurred or the organization filed for bankruptcy due to the millions they would be
required to pay in damages. Stakeholders are the members of the Mobile, Alabama community who
either witnessed or heard about the disaster and who may have lost trust in this railway system. The
crew and captain of the tug boat which ran its barges into the framework of the bridge are also
stakeholders, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ignoring recommendations such as CSX did, in not installing the emergency signal due to cost is an
example of social irresponsibility (Eisenbeis, et al, nd). Amtrak could have better communications and
emergency systems aboard the trains and passenger cars, to alert the entire crew of emergencies.
Though this may not be an issue of irresponsibility, it has implications for future rail travel. WGN has
an ethical responsibility to ensure that vessel crews are trained and updated on navigation techniques,
so that injury to innocent bystanders does not occur. They also have an ethical responsibility to have
proper navigation systems on board the vessels.
Philanthropic Social Responsibility
Travel and transport organizations do not have a specific responsibility to become involved in
philanthropic activities, though they should at least insure that the communities in which they travel
through are not adversely affected either economically or environmentally, as a result of their travels.
They could take measures to provide incentives for jobs and training for jobs of those in the
communities in which they travel through, as taxpayers of those communities share the burden of
building bridges and roads. Because the organizations also contribute to introducing carbon emissions
into the environment, they should work with and offer some financial support to organizations that

Essay on Ap Bio Plants
1.)
Roots support photosynthesis and respiration by absorbing minerals and water and by storing organic
nutrients. They also anchor the plant. Some roots have mycorrhizae, which increase the surface area
and therefore increase the absorption. The endodermis, which is the innermost layer of cells in the root
cortex, surrounds the vascular cylinder. It is the passage of minerals from the cortex into the vascular
tissue.
The stem has a system of nodes where leaves are attached. They have a waxy coating (epidermis) that
prevents water loss. The stem and the roots are the 2 main axes in a vascular plant. Fluids are
transported between the roots and the shoots through the stem by the phloem and xylem.

They have vascular tissues for long distance transport like the xylem and phloem. Additionally there is
a way for plants to reproduce without requiring water. Another reason is secondary growth with the
vascular cambium. The stem or root will grow in diameter and will be thickened, reducing water loss
and protecting the surface more fully. The different plant tissues (dermal tissues, vascular tissue and
ground tissues) are adoptions as well.
4.)
Water flows from high water potential to low water potential. They have three routes for that: the
transmembrane route (out of one cell, across a cell wall and into another cell), the symplastic route
(via the continuum of cytosol) and the apoplastic route (via cell walls and extracellular spaces). Roots
are another way for water uptake and transport (example: mycorrhizae and endodermis). This
transport is regulated by the compartmental structure of plants. The concept of transpiration is made
possible through adhesion and cohesion.
5.)
The plant is required to be able to work at the molecular level, because (as only of many examples) it
needs sucrose. Proton pumping and the cotransport of sucrose and H+ are two of the ways for a plant
to get its required amounts of sucrose. The plant is also in need of nitrogen for its organic synthesis. It
can acquire that by nitrogen fixing bacteria that convert atmospheric N2 to nitrogenous minerals.

An example for an organ is the tuber or bulb. They

Summary Of Sweat By Zora Neale Hurston
The short story Sweat by Zora Neale Hurston, is an empowering tale about an honest, hardworking
woman who stood her ground and persevered in spite of her stressful living conditions. Hurston uses
elaborate detail to paint a picture of a humble, Delia Jones, who endured emotional and physical
abuse, as well as intimidation and eventually redemption at the hands of her husband Sykes Jones.
Fear is a powerful emotion and can be used to either cripple us or empower us, and Delia chose to rise
above her fear. Sweat is the perfect title for this story as it is simple yet telling; to the hard working
woman that was Delia Jones.
Abuse in any form is wrong and is usually meted out by insecure and unstable people.

Essay on The Physics of Motorcycle Roadracing
Despite what some people may think, motorcycle roadracing is not only a highly strenuous sport, but
there is much more involved than just twisting the throttle and turning the handlebars. There are a
number of powerful forces working on the bike and the rider. There is, of course, the downward pull
of gravity, friction between the tires and the track, and centrifugal force which acts to the outside of
the turn. The key to cornering at high speeds is to perfect the lean angle of the motorcycle so that the
force of gravity reaches equilibrium with the centrifugal force attempting to stand the bike back up. If
the bike is leaned to far, it falls over. If it is not leaned far enough, centrifugal force pulls it back up
and the turn is not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the rider would push on the left handlebar (turning the bars to the right) in order to make
a left turn. This may seem like a foreign concept at first, but it makes sense in the context of
gyroscopic motion. Consider a bicycle wheel:
The effects of gyroscopic precession can be felt when the wheel is held by the axle in the position
shown, spun, and then turned sharply to the left or right. If the wheel is turned to the left, the top will
twist to the right, pushing the bottom to the left. The same applies to a motorcycle when the wheels
are spinning very quickly and the machine is turned. Turning the handlebars to the left would force the
top of the wheel to move to the right, thus leaning the motorcycle in the opposite direction that the
wheel was turned.
The equation for this motion of the wheel is
T=IWv
where T is the torque, I is the moment of inertia, v is the wheel speed, and W is the angular velocity of
the turn. This equation relies on the conservation of the wheel s angular momentum.(Sport Rider
2002)
Steering Method #2: Body Steering
The concept of body steering relies on the rider s shifts in weight and pressure application on various
parts of the motorcycle to turn it. Theoretically, one could turn a bike without ever touching the
handlebars simply by shifting body weight. For example, to turn the bike to the left, the rider could

Women s Rights For Women In The Russian Revolution
Before the times of the revolution, women in Russia had no say about their lives. They were forced to
tend to the home their husband provided for them, and many grew up illiterate. The homes they were
forced to tend to were full of aggression and constant abuse from their husband or father; male
dominance in Russia thrived before the revolution. Women in that time were not emotionally strong
enough to take a stand for their equality. The thought of a woman working outside of their home
disgusted many men living during that time. The Russian Revolution created a gateway for women to
take an active role in a once anti women s rights society. When the revolution began on March 8,
1917, education in Russia became a new priority (Figes). Women living in poverty prior to the
revolution were given no opportunities to become educated. Only women with a wealthy husband
gained access to very limited schooling; those who did not marry rich were left with no access to
obtain an education (McElvanney). Often times at the age of ten or twelve, girls began working; they
were lucky to be exposed to one complete year of education (Frederiksen). A mere 13.1% of the
female population in Russia was considered literate prior to the revolution (Frederiksen). The
revolution allowed women to take a stand to their right to a proper education. Riots that formed during
the revolution paved a pathway for free education to become mandatory for all children. Along with
their children, women gained

The Outsider
The Outsider Albert Camus
Albert Camus presents ideas of identity and the human condition in his classic novel The Outsider,
through his exploration of gender and cultural representations as well as an insight into absurdum and
existentialism. These concepts of identity and the human condition reflect on the society in which the
novella has been set, demonstrating how women, those of other cultures and those who are considered
to be different are represented. The novella tells a recollection of events of a young man named
Meursault, emotionally detached from a society where he refuses to conform to society s conventions
and in turn a refusal to play the game . The novella begins with the death of Meursault s mother and
ends with his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The culture references in the novella show how culture is represented in society. Those in control
leave the culture that is not in control isolated and divided.
Death plays a major role in the novella The Outsider. The story both begins and concludes with a
death, creating the idea that death is all a part of the human condition; we all die in the end, which
reveals Camus own ideologies of absurdism. Death is explored through the structure of the novella,
through the parallels between the death of Meursault s mother in the beginning and the lead up to his
execution in the end. When Meursault s, he shows what most would consider an unusual reaction to
the death of a love one and accepts it. He shows little emotion to the subject and demonstrates his
understanding of death, it is part of our human condition and he has no control over it. It s not my fault
(page 9). Majority of this absurdist content is addressed as Meursault awaits his execution in his
prison cell. Whilst sitting there one evening, his thoughts wonder to the memory of Marie, as he tried
to reason why she hadn t written to him. It crossed his mind that she may be ill or dead, and again like
with his mother, feels no emotion towards the possible death of his girlfriend. It was the natural order
of things... I wasn t interested in her anymore if she was dead (page 110). Meursault sees life as

The Struggle Of A Father s Life On Sundays By Robert Hayden
In this poem, the author Robert Hayden dramatizes the conflict of a father son relationship, inviting us
to recall our past relationships with parents with him. This poem was written so the speaker can reflect
on his own life and help the reader connect to him.
The opening stanza sets the scene with the speaker telling us about his father s life on Sundays. Note
how the author uses imagery to show his inner feelings of coldness towards his father at time, using
words like blue black cold (line 2) and cracked hands (line 30). These words also show a sense of
loneliness. Sunday is a day of rest for most people. A working man should be able to sleep in rather
than waking up early. But that was not the case for the man in this poem, or the speaker s father. He
wakes up early and begins his daily tasks. The coldness expressed in this first stanza goes beyond the
literal temperature of the room. This coldness describes the ungrateful attitude of his family, none of
them having ever thanked their father for his hard work in the household. This poem is written in past
tense, allowing the speaker to realize the amount of regret he holds for his ingratitude.
The use of the words cold, splintering, breaking in the second stanza reinforces the feeling of coldness
in the first stanza. Splintering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rhetorical question that is present in the last two lines of the poem, show the speakers shame and
almost remorse. The first What did I know shows a lack of knowledge of the sacrifice of others,
especially his father. When the speaker says, What did I know of love s austere and lonely offices?
shows the realization of the willingness of his father to wake up and complete the tasks for his loved
ones. The word austere is used to describe the tasks performed, as well as the man who performs
them. The author uses the word offices as a final word to compare the functions and duties performed

Bronze Age Catastrophes
The Bronze Age started around 2300 BC in Europe and it consisted of the new found material of
bronze. It was an important development in many cities during the time. Bronze was used for a
multitude of items including weapons, chariot parts, tools, decorative objects, and ritual vessels. The
bronze age eventually came to an end because of four major catastrophes that came around 1200 BC
that help shape the first millennium. Climate change, migration, new technology, and administrative
innovations was the origin of this change. One of the first catastrophe that came and helped end the
bronze age was climate change. Around 1200 BC many regions in Afro Eurasia were used to having

DBQ on Differences Between New England and Chesapeake...
Two unique societies were constructed by people of common origin. These English colonists
immigrated to the New World for either economic prosperity or religious freedom. During
colonization, two regions were formed, New England and the Chesapeake Bay area. The two
contrasting societies of New England and Chesapeake region were the results of diversity of: social
and family structure; health and living conditions; economy; religion and beliefs; and government
policies.
As stated in Document A, unity was encouraged among New Englanders, which developed into close
societies. The close societies often built a bond of trust within the community, knowing that neighbors
would come together during times of danger. Document A also stresses the ... Show more content on

describes the harsh living conditions that were imposed upon the colonists of the Chesapeake region.
These conditions often reduced the expected life expectancy of its inhabitants by ten years and often
destroyed the family unit. The living conditions of New England were much more favorable and often
increased the life expectancy of the colonists. Longer lifetimes resulted in society stability since
families were formed and grandparents invented.
Document F states, The worst [among us were the gold seekers who] with their golden promises made
all men their slaves in hope of recompenses. This quote displays the major motive of emigrants to the
Chesapeake region as gold seekers, or monetary prosperity. Documents G and H show that there were
many indentured servants in the Chesapeake area. These indentured servants were often used for the
tobacco farms. Since the soil was infertile in New England, the colonists there often focused on trade,
small scale manufacturing, fishing, and other sea industries. The economy of each region impacted its
social structure, which many indentured servants and slaves in the Chesapeake region while there was
much more equality in New England.

Humanities Human Figure in Art Work Essay
Humanism vs. Realism with Focus of Human Figure Artwork
Middle Eastern, Egyptian and Greek Civilizations
Throughout history the human figure has been demonstrated in Middle Eastern, Egyptian and Greek
sculptures and paintings. Most of these artifacts tend to focus more on humanism than realism due to
Rulers and Gods, geographical areas, resources and events thus, giving them the idea for the theme of
the art they create. These are the reasons that might explain their commonalities or differences in the
representation of the human figure.

Land In Angiush The Aesthetics and Ethics of Glauber Rocha
The aim of the paper is to present a theoretical framework for the understanding of Brazilian political
filmmaker Glauber Rocha s style of film making which is inspired by third cinema. At the centre of
the theory is the concept of Third Cinema: a new cinematic movement, built on the rejection of the
concepts and propositions of traditional cinema, as represented by Hollywood. In this paper the
content and context of the film Land in Anguish (Earth Entranced) is used to study about the aesthetic

Earthquakes, They Destroy, Kill, And Demolish
Earthquakes, they destroy, kill, and demolish. Earthquakes have been recorded for a long time.
Records have been and always will continue to be recorded for centuries. Earthquakes are recorded by
instruments called seismographs. The recording that they make is called a seismogram. These drum
sized tubes of decades of earthquakes are more than likely stored in science labs. Earthquakes
however, are the releasing of stored energy from plate tectonics. Plate tectonics is the study of 7
massive pieces of rock called continents. They build up energy from pressurized rock that is pushed
against each other. When it releases it is like ripples in the water but those ripples are about 10 times
the size, plus the waves can go through the earth and hit outer parts of the earth on the other side. Yet,
because of different types of materials, the waves will never pass straight through the earth. The thing
that powers plate tectonics is convection currents.
The crust (the farthest and the outer est layer of the earth and the one we know and love because it is
helping us not to die) and the upper part of the mantle (that is a loll squid of different density and
different types of metals) make up the lithosphere. It also holds up the plate boundarys where Pangaea
split into 7 massive pieces of rock. The three different types of plate boundaries are convergent
boundarys, divergent boundarys, and transform boundarys.
What happens at a convergent boundary is the plates push directly against

Author of A Rose for Emily, William Faulkner s Nobel Prize...
All I have to say about A Rose for Emily is that she was a crazy person! Faulkner is a really worthy
and famous writer that has a lot to say in his writings and I think that he accomplishes that when he
writes. On December 10, he delivered his acceptance speech to the academy in a voice so low and
rapid that few could make out what he was saying, but when his words were published in the
newspaper the following day, it was recognized for its brilliance; in later years, Faulkner s speech
would be lauded as the best speech ever given at a Nobel ceremony. (Padgett) When William Faulkner

There were a lot of different emotions that were represented in this selection, but Faulkner didn t tell
us that the characters were angry he used details to show us people s emotions. Try to be better than
yourself. An artist is a creature driven by demons. He doesn t know why they choose him and he s
usually too busy to wonder why. He is completely amoral in that he will rob, borrow, beg, or steal
from anybody and everybody to get the work done. (Faulkner/Stein) When he talks he uses a lot of
emotion and that shows his style of writing. William Faulkner gave a Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech

challenges is pity and sacrifice which has been the glory of the past. When he writes he is saying that
the people who have had pity thrown upon them and the people who have made their sacrifices are the
only ones who get the glory. The human drama in Faulkner s novels is then built on the model of the

Describe the Basis of Feminist Criminology
The Basis Of Feminist Criminology Feminist criminology was created out of the realization that
criminology from its beginnings focused on the male criminal and the unlawful acts they committed.
When in the fact it could be argued female crime was studied as far back as 1800 s, female criminal
activity, its causes and the effects in which it placed on public opinion were often disregarded. Over
the past 20 years, there has been a significantly different approach in how females are being dealt with
inside the criminal justice system. This has been the result of a more broadening law enforcement
effort, stringent medication sentencing laws, and post conviction limits to reentry that would greatly
influence females. While there seems to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The response to the way women are dealt with, radical scholars agree that women turn to substance
abuse and criminal activity. Marxist women s activist conjecture bridges patriarchy into the elements
of free enterprise when female offenders are sentenced for property or sexual criminal activity.
Socialist feminism strives to create equal roles for women as, child bearers, servants, and
homemakers, so they can assume their licit place in society. Socialist feminism is a two part theory on
the basis that it increases the scope of Marxist s theories and the radical women s activist theory .The
extent of perception in women s activist criminology focuses on merging both society and private
sectors of a woman s livelihood and an end to the financial and the social continual pattern of a
woman s abuse.
2. Do you believe that this philosophy explains the cause of criminal behavior in women? I believe
that this train of thought addresses the cause of criminal behavior in women because many viewpoints
that fall under the umbrella of feminism are given as different causes of criminal conduct in women
.Feminist criminology lacks evidence of a woman s crime. Women s activist theories not only strive to
elucidate criminal wrong doing, exploitation and additionally join together theory with practice to
create more impartial answers for the crime at hand.

Hosea (c.784 c.725 BC)
After the death of King Solomon, the united tribes of Israel split into 2 kingdoms the southern

as the Lost Ten Tribes of Israel.

God does strange things at times, things we don t always understand, things we can t categorize,
things that don t fit into what we think we know of him. And this is one of those strange things.
Perhaps Hosea then began to understand a little bit of what God was doing. He knew it was customary
in Israel to teach by symbols God often used this method of instructing his people and that names
were very important. God often used the meanings of names to teach Israel certain truths just as we
shall see in the case of Isaiah later on. Now God was planning to use this prophet and his family as an
example for his people.
Hosea obeyed the will of God, went to court Gomer, and they were married. At first it was heaven on
earth. Hosea loved this girl. You can t read this prophecy without seeing that. They must have been
wonderfully happy together, and then they had their first child. It was a boy, as God had said. Bear in
mind that it was the result of adultery on Gomer s part. Hosea s heart was filled to bursting, and he
went to God for the name of this boy. What should we name the boy? To his surprise, God picked the
name Jezreel. Now Jezreel means cast away and was a name of shame in Israel. He represented the
hypocrisy and adultery of Israel, and he was a foreshadowing of what was to come in divine discipline

An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge Realism Analysis
Realism in An Occurrence at the Owl Creek Bridge Realism was the period in literature developed in
the early nineteenth century Europe just as the Civil War ended in the United States. Realism was
developed in response to the romantic period that preceded it and caused quite a ruckus in the literary
circles. Debates were made over how the main fictional characters should be portrayed and presented
in relation their world. Romantic writers often celebrated the human ability to triumph over all
adversities. The plot exerts themes of nationalism, heroism, and of the supernatural. The extraordinary
romantic characters valued the feeling and intuition over reason, imagination over reality, and found
inspiration in myths, legends, nature, and adventure. After the American Civil War came the time of
great changes; social, economic, and political. The focus of literature then turned to the ordinary
people and their everyday lives. Character building and their real complexity, combined with their
temperament and motive, became the focal points in these literature as opposed to the plot and action
seen in romantic pieces. The writing became more objective and in some cases, the ... Show more

In this story, Ambrose Bierce tells the story in three parts that defied the chronological concept of
time. Part one placed the reader at the scene of the hanging as the infantrymen begin their final
preparations. Part two goes back into time to reveal why Farquhar, the man who was to be hanged,
was in such situation. Part three sends the reader back to the present at the hanging, as Bierce brews
the realistic fantasy of the escapade. Bierce, in An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, conveys the
message of the pointless human endeavors and the unrealistic concept of free will through the use of

The Destruction Of The Second Temple
Essay question: Which is the most significant event for the transformation of Judaism: (a) the
Babylonian Exile; or (b) the destruction of the second temple in 70CE?
Introduction
Judaism as one of the oldest religions in the world has been through various historical changes. Started
with the practice and belief of ancient Israeli people, through the conquering and changing of different
kingdoms and empires, Judaism and Jewish people changed and adapted to maintain their identity,
belief and existence. Judaism that we know nowadays is a result of its historical changes, primarily
from the Babylonian Exile and the second temple periods.
What is Judaism?
Judaism began around the year 1800 B.C.E in the Middle East and was established with the ... Show

Jewish sacrificial practice was originally offered in the Jerusalem Temple (Sanders 2016). They
sacrificed animals to gain peace and forgiveness, and the animals were distributed among the priest,
the altar and the worshipper after the ritual slaughter (Sanders 2016). The exile disrupted the religious
identity of Jewish people that was closely tied to their native land, the place that was seen as YHWH s
house. The captivity resulted in the abolition of their temple, which led to the changes in their
religious practices as Jewish people could no longer perform their rituals at their sacred homeland.
The focus of Jewish religion was then shifted to studies and prayers. Instead of sacrificing animals,
they promoted the worshipping and the study of the Torah. This was the foundation of the
development of the synagogue. Synagogue was the house of assembly where the Jews could gather,
study and pray. The growth of the synagogues helps to maintain Jewish tradition and religious culture
while they were in the host country (Hammer 2010). Therefore, the synagogue was the central
institution of Judaism after the exile.
In the beginning, Israel was a tribal society that was organised according to the acknowledgement of
the twelve sons of patriarch Jacob (Zvi 2012, p.25). After the exile, tribal groups were replaced by
clans. The tribal society was only credible before the Jews left their motherland. Within the tribal
society, the rights of citizenship were given at birth, which

The Statue Of Liberty Analysis
The Statue of Liberty has a greater significance that cannot be seen so blatantly. While at first it may
just seem that this monument is not that complex, but with a deeper analysis many new and surprising
emblematic meanings arise. While analyzing this monument we can see how the text correlates with
the changing of its meaning. We can also see how the physical embodiment of the Statue plays a
major role in affecting the viewers in multiple ways. The monument appeals to a lot of ethnicities that
have been included in its history. The text on the Statue of Liberty may be one of the most vital parts
of the monument. Inside the pedestal there is a sonnet written by American poet Emma Lazarus. This
sonnet was originally made to raise funds for the Statue but officials and the public realized the impact
it had and decided to include it in the monument in 1903. The sonnet is called The New Colossus and
is directed to immigrants arriving through Ellis island. It includes statements and words like world
wide welcome and Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free . The
Statue of Liberty was a symbol of welcoming and new life for many immigrants which came from all
over the world. Many of these immigrants were escaping from famines that ravished their countries or
many governments, especially in Europe, did not provide the same economical opportunities as the
United States did, hence the sonnet receiving any new populace who wanted to have a

Stephen Kumalo s Cry The Beloved Country Alan Paton Analysis
Msimangu once told Stephen Kumalo, I have one great fear in my heart, that one day when they are
turned to loving, they will find we are turned to hating (Paton 71). Showing love to others is
paramount when it comes to striving to live like Jesus rather than judging others for what they have or
have not done. Even the most high up people who appear to have no flaw within them are just as
fallen and broken as the rest of society. In Alan Paton s Cry, the Beloved Country, Stephen Kumalo, a
parson from Ndotsheni, shows his flaws by demonstrating his sins against others. Stephen Kumalo
sins against his son s girlfriend to test her and find out if she would remain loyal Absalom because he
believes she will go and find another man to live with. When Stephen visits Ablsalom s girlfriend, he
becomes angered toward her: He stood up, and and a wish to hurt her came into him. Although he
knew it was not seemingly, he yielded to it... (Paton 146). Stephen displays his true colors by making a
mistake and sinning through his endeavor to tempt Absalom s girlfriend into being with him rather
than remaining loyal to his son. This sin and wish to hurt her should be taken as a threat to her because
that sort of behavior should be reprimanded no matter the circumstances. Each person should be held
responsible for their actions and words because both have an immense effect on others. Even though
an act of sin against another person is almost unforgivable, God owns the power to forgive

Truth Manipulation In Maus
I solemnly swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth. But what is truth? No possible way exists
for there to be a completely unfiltered recollection of the past. Whether consciously or not, events can
be warped and distorted into stories with exaggerated details, fragmented incidents, and whatever
specifics keep the self image we feel the need to maintain. All of these elements are seen throughout
Maus, with both Art, the author, and Vladek Spiegelman exemplifying complications of truth. The
subtle and not so subtle instances of truth manipulation can consistently be seen throughout the books,
which cause the questioning of what can be considered reality in all literature. Whether consciously or
not, truth is manipulated in literature, since perfect memories cannot be recalled, as seen in Maus.
Maus displays numerous events where the line between reality and falsified details become blurred, a
problem that is seen repeatedly in our own lives. Spiegelman, like all authors has the power to control
what the book is conveying to the reader, either to be persuasive or manipulate of the story itself.
Entire scenes were invented in Maus for Spiegelman to communicate his philosophy about truth to his
readers. As said in a conversation between Art and Françoise, See what I mean, in real life you d never
have let me talk this long without interrupting. (Spiegelman, 16) At the beginning of the scene, we
were under the impression that this conversation actually

Analysis Of Fences By August Wilson
The Future is in Your Hands.
Children grow up naturally emulating the adults around them, for most it is their mother and father,
this is natural and typically a positive thing. There are times, however, when the people that children
emulate are not the best examples society has to offer. In the play Fences Cory looks up to his dad
when it comes to sports. However, by the end of the play the reader starts to notice that Troy is not the
man to look up to. The plot in Fences by August Wilson is centered around an African American
family that looks at the world a little differently by that I mean when Troy was young people believed
blacks shouldn t be able to do the things whites can. People were rude and outspoken about how they
felt when it came to sharing public things with blacks. Now Troy s sons are living in a world that has
evolved and is not as racist, the boys can go out and achieve their dreams, even if they are African
American it may be difficult but is still achievable. Because of the change in the way of life there has
been a conflict between the two boys and their father. Troy may realize that things are different now,
but that doesn t change the fact that it is hard for him to let go of the past. Because Troy was unable to
play baseball based on his race, he believes Cory shouldn t be able to go on and play college football.
This raises a big question, is Troy being unfair or is he trying to look out for his son? The main theme
throughout the play Fences is

Medieval Vs Renaissance Philosophy
The Medieval Era was a time dominated by belief. People lived with such great superstition and fear
of God. Many people were focused not on their lives her on earth, but rather their life after death.
During the Renaissance people became more humanistic and focused more on their lives in the
moment rather than their afterlife. We can see these changes of Ideas by studying the works of Saint
Anselm of Canterbury, Saint Thomas Aquinas, Thomas a Kempis, and Caesarius of Heisterbach from
the Medieval Era and compare it to the works of Marsilio Ficino, Leonardo Da Vinci, Niccolo
Machiavelli, and Desiderius Erasmus of the Renaissance period we can see ... Show more content on

Here Aquinas argues that everything that happens is the cause of something, but nothing can cause
itself. If we trace back a cause all the way back to the beginning of the world, it could not have caused
itself. Therefore, God must have been the first cause. Aquinas third proof is the Argument from
Contingency. We see that everything here on earth is finite. People die, empires fall. All things must
come to an end. That means things had to have a beginning where nothing was in existence yet. How
did things come into existence? God. Aquinas s 4th argument is the Argument of Degrees. Here we
judge things to be a certain degree of good or bad. But what are we comparing that to? If they have a
certain degree of good and bad, then what is the greatest degree of good? And that must be God.
Aquinas s final argument is his Argument from Design. Perhaps one of his strongest arguments
Aquinas says that there must be an intelligent designer behind everything. Random objects don t have
any brains to act the way they do. But they are directed in the way they act by God.
Thomas a Kempis is famous for his work in The Imitation of Christ. The book is one of the most
famous devotional books for Christians right after the Bible. In his book he tells the common folk how
to live like Christ (Hence the name Imitation of Christ ). The book tells us how to live not for our lives

Impact Of Education On The American Education System
Education has overtime developed from an institution that lacked what was necessary to properly
education men, women and children, to what is now a fairly decent system that prepares people from
all across the world. For minorities, or underrepresented ethnic groups in America this is a different
case. My focused are of research pertains to the history of education and how policies and the quality
of it has transformed.
While we have grown over the decades to provide education for all groups of people there is still
equality lacking in our education system. For my research I will be examining how education has
changed between the generations in America and how the system is now compared to the late 1800s
and 1900s. My research question is how has the quality and available opportunities for
underrepresented minority groups changed in the American education system.
Janelle Scott and Rand Quinn examine the racial politics of education in the six decades Post Brown

and how market trends are affecting the schools and its children. Racial, Linguistic and socioeconomic
segregation in public education are being observed within these cities. As the authors did their

A Magneto Rheological Shock Absorber
A magneto rheological shock absorber or magneto rheological damper is a damper filled with magneto
rheological fluid, which is controlled by magnetic field, usually using an electromagnet. This allows
the damping characteristics of the shock absorber to be continuously controlled by varying the current
in the electromagnet. This type of shock absorber has found applications in semi active vehicle
suspensions which may adapt to road conditions, as they are driven by continuous sensor monitoring
and also with prosthetic limbs. Fig. No.1. Magneto Rheological damper
Above figure shows the schematic of magneto rheological damper which is consist of cylinder, piston,
piston rod and electrical winding. There are three types of the magneto rheological damper are,
Mono tube MR damper
Twin tube MR damper
Double ended MR damper
MONO TUBE MR DAMPER
From the three types, the mono tube is the most common since it can be installed in any direction and
it is small in size. A mono tube MR damper, shown in Figure, has only one store for the MR fluid and
it is associated with accumulator mechanism to accommodate the changes in volume that results from
piston rod movement. The accumulator piston is used for providing a barrier between the MR fluid
and a compressed gas (usually nitrogen) that is used for accommodating the volume changes of liquid
that occur when the piston rod enters the housing. Fig. No.2.Mono tube MR damper section view

Cormac Mccarthy The Road Analysis
Home is defined as a dwelling place together with the family; an environment offering security and
happiness. Cormac McCarthy in The Road develops this love and passion using the man and the boy s
relationship. Throughout the novel the boy and the man don t have a real home, moving constantly.
Ultimately their version of home is not just a typical building they merely live in. However, they do
find their home within each other and it takes a toll on who they are and who they become in the end
of the novel. Incidentally, McCarthy uses the man to help the boy feel safe and secure which overall is
what the boy sees as home. The boy never wanted to leave the man s side and was terrified to be alone
without him. In the end of the novel the man dies

Tragedy Of Romeo And Juliet
Romeo Juliet Critique
The Tragedy of Romeo Juliet by William Shakespeare was in the 18th century in a place called
Verona, Italy. Shakespeare illustrates about how sometimes that life can be unfair or not, but it s not
worth dying for when something bad happens to them or not. There were two young people that are
Romeo and Juliet, they fall in love when they first saw each other and later on, they get married
because it was unfair when both families hated each other when they don t want them to fall in love.
Then, when Mercutio fought Tybalt and Romeo fight Tybalt, both Mercutio and Tybalt died during the
fighting. Lastly, when Romeo and Juliet both killed themselves because when life was unfair to them.

that Juliet expected to fool everyone but she didn t expected to fool Romeo. For dramatic irony, when
Romeo said that he love Tybalt, but Tybalt didn t know that Romeo was married to his cousin Juliet
and being part of the family. This is dramatic irony because when Tybalt calls Romeo a villain, he

Cult Research Paper
The word cult is defined as an alternative religion. Most cults are started because someone doesn t like
the way the world is, and feels that his/her church isn t doing anything to make it better, so they leave
and create what they believe to be the perfect religion. Then this person strives to make others believe
as they do so they will join (Miller, 1991, p. 15). There are somewhere around 3,000 to 5,000 of these
cults throughout the United States, but only 75 to 100 are documented (Miller, 1991, p. 15 16).
Satanism is the oldest form of such cults. A few other commonly known cults are Reverend Jim Jones
and the People Temple, Heavens Gate, and Charles Manson and the Family.

The Kennett Delta Parade
Parade A parade is a public possession causing some of these to be celebrate for a special day or event.
People can even win prizes for being in them. I attended the Kennett Delta Parade on September 29th.
I really enjoyed watching it! I thought it was the longest parade, but it had so much entertainment. In
summary, the parade included the police department, tractors, modern cars, floats, marching units,
school bands, school clubs, and sport teams from different areas. The parade even carried the delta fair
queen and maids. My favorite section of the parade were the floats considering some people get so
creative decorating. The floats were awarded. First place won $1000, second place won $600, third
place won $450, fourth place won $350, and fifth place won $250. Some people bring in their
competitive side, which makes it really amusing to watch. At the same time, I felt like I was part of the
community when I attended the Kennett Delta Parade. Parades combine some of my favorite things:
community, faith, family, patriotism, and simply being involved. Events like these bring everyone
together. However, I chose this specific event because I show up every year and really enjoy coming
to watch. Not only is it thrilling, but it also keeps me from staying home. I will continue to attend to
this event in the future because every year it is different. I surely do not plan on missing any of it. The
sensation of the Kennett Delta Fair Parade is something I look forward to every year.

Examples Of Loss Of Innocence In A Long Way Gone

During the Sierra Leone s civil war, Beah is recruited as a child soldier and eventually turned into a

before mayhem broke loose around him. Moreover, Ishmael endures an extremely perilous adventure
in the jungle while fleeing war. But even though he evaded real danger for a while, he was never able
to elude his imaginary fears, I felt as if somebody was after me. Often my shadow would scare me and
cause me to run for miles. Everything felt awkwardly brutal. Even the air seemed to want to attack me

little boy who is simply running for his life. Even though this is a good point, it fails to account for the
multiple massacres Ishmael contributed to, ...I angrily pointed my gun into the swamp and shot more
people. I shot everything that moved... (Beah, p.119). How can one be innocent and naive after

Does asymptotic mean that the normal curve gets closer and closer to the X axis but never actually
touches it? Yes, asymptotic means that the curve of a line will approach 0 (the x axis), but it will not
touch 0 and instead will extend to infinity. In this class, this applies to the normal continuous
distribution and is one of the 4 key characteristics of a normal continuous distribution that our text
book discusses. This means that the curve of the line will extend infinitely in both the negative and
positive direction in exact mirror image patterns on either side of the mean. For a normal probability

This would account for 99.7% of the area under the curve. According to this theory, virtually all
flights would have between 122 182 passengers. Is the total area within any continuous probability
distribution equal to 1.00? Yes. If we are a talking about uniform probability distributions (rectangles),
the area must equal 1. We can find this using Area = basexheight or (b a/1) x (1/b a). Using this
equation, both fractions will cancel out to give you a value of 1.00. If we are talking about normal
probability distributions, they are bell shaped with a single peak at the distribution centre and
therefore, they are symmetrical about the mean. This means that the two halves of the curve are
identical and they both have values of 0.5 (0.5 to the left of the mean and 0.5 to the right of the mean).
Is the uniform probability distribution s standard deviation proportional to the distribution s range?
Yes. The equation for standard deviation for a uniform probability distribution is = SQRT [ (b
a)^2/12]. A range is the difference between the max and min values for a distribution (b a). Therefore,
the range of the distribution directly impacts the standard deviation as it is a part of the equation. The

Gaius Julius Caesar And The Fall Of The Roman Empire
General, politician, and master of propaganda, Gaius Julius Caesar, better known as Julius Caesar, is
closely associated with the fall of the Roman Republic. A man of profound charisma who was well
known for his pivotal military campaigns, Caesar was also an author and a shrewd developer of
military propaganda . He also became known for expanding the roman republics geographic borders
and founding its imperial system. Caesar had battled in numerous wars and took part in the Roman
government. The start of his Dictatorship of the Roman Empire, would ultimately be the cause the end
of his life. He would later become a large part in the History of Western Civilization. This essay will
explore the life of Julius Caesar, his influence on the Roman Republic, government, military, and
social practices.
Around July 13, 100 BCE, Gaius Julius Caesar was born in Rome . His mother was named Aurelia
Cotta, who was a born noble. His father governed the province of Asia as a Praetor, he was also named
Gaius Julius Caesar.
When he was fifteen years of age, his father passed away, making him the, paterfamilias, leader of his
home . He decided that becoming part of the priesthood, would benefit his family. There, he managed
to be nominated as the High Priest of Jupiter. Not only did Caesar have to take part in patrician stock,
he had to marry a patrician woman. He then became engaged to a woman named Cornelia. Cornelia
was daughter of Lucius Cinna, high profile and powerful leader of the Populares . This marriage
provoked fury in the, self declared Dictator, Sulla. He began a methodical elimination of foes and
those who held to the Populare ideology. Cornelia s father was Sulla s political opponent. Because of
this, Sulla targeted Caesar. He commanded that Caesar divorce his wife, or he would lose his property.
Caesar refused and fled Rome, but his sentence was lifted intercession of his mother s family.
Regardless, Caesars position as Priest was stripped and his wife s dowry was impounded.
With no means to take care of his family, Caesar enlisted in the military. During Caesar s time in the
military, he proved himself a good and effective solider. For saving someone s life, Caesar was

was his support to Copernicus theory of heliocentricity. Before this the church had stated that the sun

evolution by natural selection. However, although evolution is widely accepted by many Popes, as
well as the Catholic Church, many things are still maintained. It is still maintained that Adam was the
first human and all life originated from him. The church still says that all humans have souls. The
church insists that a soul is unobservable; therefore it is untestable by science since it has no effect on
the natural world, and science cannot confirm or deny its existence. The big bang theory is

Informative Essay About Halloween
After the sound of door bell Ding dong , opening the door and a group of children will enthusiastically
shout Trick or treat at the same time for the candy. This scenario occurs in every Halloween evening in
the U.S. Historically, Halloween is a traditional religious ceremony that derived from northern Europe.
However, in the U.S what people usually think about the Halloween is always involved with buzzard
costume, Halloween themed decoration and candy. Americans show the great obsession toward
Halloween by spending a huge amount of money on buying Halloween supplies. But why are
American obsessed with Halloween? The reasons behind the love for Halloween are that Halloween
has the inherent American historical and cultural background, but what is more Halloween has become
a time of economic boost, social communication and the catharsis of social pressure. ... Show more

But Halloween has its own historical origin and different names. Samhain, All Saints Days and All
Souls Days are the three different names for the Halloween from different origin. Samhain is a Irish
traditional religious celebration. According to Lesley Bannatyne s article Halloween. A History, Ms.
Bannatyne wrote that Samhain....was marked by Celtic peoples in northwestern Europe at least since
early medieval times (Bannatyne 2). Bannatyne also pointed out, Halloween is association with food,
fortunetelling and other otherworldly likely began with the marking of summer s end and the
beginning of the dark season (Bannatyne, 2), which indicates that the Samhain is not only the day of
celebration but also the beginning of

Remeber the Titans
Remember the Titans
Leadership in Organizations
12th December of 2013
Miguel Nogueira Rodrigues

Remember the Titans is a film that tells the story about a period of history in the United States, when
the differences between black and white people were much assumed. The black people wanted to feel
respected and not discriminated by the whites, and because of that they wanted the same rights as the
others.
In this story, for the first time, all people could attend the same high school, and this change created
many problems between students and their families.
The Titans were a football team, but they were always losing the games, and win the championship
was unreachable for them. So, the school board decide to get a ... Show more content on

When the racial problems didn t seem to disappear he didn t give up and always have the self
confident, even being black to demonstrate his position.
2. What are the main character s leadership strengths (if any) and why? What are the main character s
leadership weaknesses (if any) and why?
In my opinion, coach Boone had many leadership strengths: He had his goal to make the team a
winning team, and to do that he knew he would have to overcome many obstacles, to make the players
a real team and a group of players.
To do that, he needed the capacity to motivate the team, to push them harder to achieve the goals, to
make them expect more from themselves and their teammates.
For me, one of the best moments that showed coach Boone was a very good leader was when he
Boone woke up all the players in the evening and made them run with him. He didn t just order them
to do something he knew was difficult. He did it with them. He had self sacrificed for the team. Coach
Yoast, went to tell him that he was pushing them too hard, but Boone knew exactly what he was
doing. When he stopped the running, and gave the speech about the differences and what that had as
result, I think that speech changed the attitude between the players. That speech inspired them to want
to be more, to want to grow as a group. And in the next game, after the Capitan of the team took the
first step, they finally started to be a united team.
Another leadership strength that coach

My Shield
My shield consisted of glowing Christmas lights with my family, sports, and dreams listed as
important things in my life. I had prepared my poster before the day of my speech so that I would be
able to practice before my speech the next day. Although I practiced a little before the day of my
speech, it was not enough now that I look back on how my speech went. I felt that because I was sick
2 days before I performed my speech I was not prepared enough for when I needed to go. As I was
standing in front of my peers I was extremely nervous, and I am sure my classmates could tell. I also
know that you could tell I was nervous during my presentation. This not only made me unfocused, but
made my speech turn out worse than I had anticipated. Another reason I know I messed up ... Show

I did a very good job of getting my three points across without confusing anyone. Another thing I
thought I did very well was the visuals I brought in. They were very big and everyone in the
classroom was able to see them clearly. As the next speech comes around one thing I need to work on
is my eye contact. During my shield speech I only looked up a few times, but I never made eye
contact individually with any people. Another thing I can improve is how long I practice for my
speech. If I would run through my speech a few times throughout the week and the night before my
speech would turn out much better. I also made very well written out index cards, but I did not use
them as much of an aid. I think that if I practiced a little more than what I did my speech could have
flowed better. During my speech one thing that was really unexpected for me was the time. I came
into the speech thinking I would have plenty of time to get everything I wanted to say out, but when I
started talking about my family I was already three minutes in. When it came to the actual speech I
almost had a small nervous

They also have an ethical responsibility to have proper navigation systems on board the vessels. Philanthropic Social Responsibility Travel and transport organizations do not have a specific responsibility to become involved in philanthropic activities, though they should at least insure that the communities in which they travel through are not adversely affected either economically or environmentally, as a result of their travels. They could take measures to provide incentives for jobs and training for jobs of those in the communities in which they travel through, as taxpayers of those communities share the burden of building bridges and roads. Some roots have mycorrhizae, which increase the surface area and therefore increase the absorption. The endodermis, which is the innermost layer of cells in the root cortex, surrounds the vascular cylinder. It is the passage of minerals from the cortex into the vascular tissue. The stem has a system of nodes where leaves are attached. They have a waxy coating (epidermis) that prevents water loss. The stem and the roots are the 2 main axes in a vascular plant. They have vascular tissues for long distance transport like the xylem and phloem. Additionally there is a way for plants to reproduce without requiring water. Another reason is secondary growth with the vascular cambium. The stem or root will grow in diameter and will be thickened, reducing water loss and protecting the surface more fully. The different plant tissues (dermal tissues, vascular tissue and ground tissues) are adoptions as well. 4.) Water flows from high water potential to low water potential. They have three routes for that: the transmembrane route (out of one cell, across a cell wall and into another cell), the symplastic route (via the continuum of cytosol) and the apoplastic route (via cell walls and extracellular spaces). Roots are another way for water uptake and transport (example: mycorrhizae and endodermis). This transport is regulated by the compartmental structure of plants. The concept of transpiration is made possible through adhesion and cohesion. 5.) The plant is required to be able to work at the molecular level, because (as only of many examples) it needs sucrose. Proton pumping and the cotransport of sucrose and H+ are two of the ways for a plant to get its required amounts of sucrose. The plant is also in need of nitrogen for its organic synthesis. It can acquire that by nitrogen fixing bacteria that convert atmospheric N2 to nitrogenous minerals. 6.) An example for an organ is the tuber or bulb. They ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Essay on The Physics of Motorcycle Roadracing Despite what some people may think, motorcycle roadracing is not only a highly strenuous sport, but there is much more involved than just twisting the throttle and turning the handlebars. There are a number of powerful forces working on the bike and the rider. There is, of course, the downward pull of gravity, friction between the tires and the track, and centrifugal force which acts to the outside of the turn. The key to cornering at high speeds is to perfect the lean angle of the motorcycle so that the force of gravity reaches equilibrium with the centrifugal force attempting to stand the bike back up. If the bike is leaned to far, it falls over. If it is not leaned far enough, centrifugal force pulls it back up and the turn is not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the rider would push on the left handlebar (turning the bars to the right) in order to make a left turn. This may seem like a foreign concept at first, but it makes sense in the context of gyroscopic motion. Consider a bicycle wheel: The effects of gyroscopic precession can be felt when the wheel is held by the axle in the position shown, spun, and then turned sharply to the left or right. If the wheel is turned to the left, the top will twist to the right, pushing the bottom to the left. The same applies to a motorcycle when the wheels are spinning very quickly and the machine is turned. Turning the handlebars to the left would force the top of the wheel to move to the right, thus leaning the motorcycle in the opposite direction that the wheel was turned. The equation for this motion of the wheel is T=IWv where T is the torque, I is the moment of inertia, v is the wheel speed, and W is the angular velocity of the turn. This equation relies on the conservation of the wheel s angular momentum.(Sport Rider 2002) Steering Method #2: Body Steering The concept of body steering relies on the rider s shifts in weight and pressure application on various parts of the motorcycle to turn it. Theoretically, one could turn a bike without ever touching the handlebars simply by shifting body weight. For example, to turn the bike to the left, the rider could simply ... • 9. Women s Rights For Women In The Russian Revolution Before the times of the revolution, women in Russia had no say about their lives. They were forced to tend to the home their husband provided for them, and many grew up illiterate. The homes they were forced to tend to were full of aggression and constant abuse from their husband or father; male dominance in Russia thrived before the revolution. Women in that time were not emotionally strong enough to take a stand for their equality. The thought of a woman working outside of their home disgusted many men living during that time. The Russian Revolution created a gateway for women to take an active role in a once anti women s rights society. When the revolution began on March 8, 1917, education in Russia became a new priority (Figes). Women living in poverty prior to the revolution were given no opportunities to become educated. Only women with a wealthy husband gained access to very limited schooling; those who did not marry rich were left with no access to obtain an education (McElvanney). Often times at the age of ten or twelve, girls began working; they were lucky to be exposed to one complete year of education (Frederiksen). A mere 13.1% of the female population in Russia was considered literate prior to the revolution (Frederiksen). The revolution allowed women to take a stand to their right to a proper education. These concepts of identity and the human condition reflect on the society in which the novella has been set, demonstrating how women, those of other cultures and those who are considered to be different are represented. The culture references in the novella show how culture is represented in society. Those in control leave the culture that is not in control isolated and divided. Death plays a major role in the novella The Outsider. The story both begins and concludes with a death, creating the idea that death is all a part of the human condition; we all die in the end, which reveals Camus own ideologies of absurdism. Death is explored through the structure of the novella, through the parallels between the death of Meursault s mother in the beginning and the lead up to his execution in the end. When Meursault s, he shows what most would consider an unusual reaction to the death of a love one and accepts it. • 11. The Struggle Of A Father s Life On Sundays By Robert Hayden In this poem, the author Robert Hayden dramatizes the conflict of a father son relationship, inviting us to recall our past relationships with parents with him. This poem was written so the speaker can reflect on his own life and help the reader connect to him. The opening stanza sets the scene with the speaker telling us about his father s life on Sundays. Note how the author uses imagery to show his inner feelings of coldness towards his father at time, using words like blue black cold (line 2) and cracked hands (line 30). These words also show a sense of loneliness. Sunday is a day of rest for most people. A working man should be able to sleep in rather than waking up early. But that was not the case for the man in this poem, or the speaker s father. He wakes up early and begins his daily tasks. The coldness expressed in this first stanza goes beyond the literal temperature of the room. This coldness describes the ungrateful attitude of his family, none of them having ever thanked their father for his hard work in the household. This poem is written in past tense, allowing the speaker to realize the amount of regret he holds for his ingratitude. The use of the words cold, splintering, breaking in the second stanza reinforces the feeling of coldness in the first stanza. Splintering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Records have been and always will continue to be recorded for centuries. Earthquakes are recorded by instruments called seismographs. The recording that they make is called a seismogram. These drum sized tubes of decades of earthquakes are more than likely stored in science labs. Earthquakes however, are the releasing of stored energy from plate tectonics. Plate tectonics is the study of 7 massive pieces of rock called continents. They build up energy from pressurized rock that is pushed against each other. The Destruction Of The Second Temple Essay question: Which is the most significant event for the transformation of Judaism: (a) the Babylonian Exile; or (b) the destruction of the second temple in 70CE? Introduction Judaism as one of the oldest religions in the world has been through various historical changes. Started with the practice and belief of ancient Israeli people, through the conquering and changing of different kingdoms and empires, Judaism and Jewish people changed and adapted to maintain their identity, belief and existence. Judaism that we know nowadays is a result of its historical changes, primarily from the Babylonian Exile and the second temple periods. What is Judaism? Jewish sacrificial practice was originally offered in the Jerusalem Temple (Sanders 2016). They sacrificed animals to gain peace and forgiveness, and the animals were distributed among the priest, the altar and the worshipper after the ritual slaughter (Sanders 2016). The exile disrupted the religious identity of Jewish people that was closely tied to their native land, the place that was seen as YHWH s house. The captivity resulted in the abolition of their temple, which led to the changes in their religious practices as Jewish people could no longer perform their rituals at their sacred homeland. The focus of Jewish religion was then shifted to studies and prayers. Instead of sacrificing animals, they promoted the worshipping and the study of the Torah. This was the foundation of the development of the synagogue. Synagogue was the house of assembly where the Jews could gather, study and pray. The growth of the synagogues helps to maintain Jewish tradition and religious culture while they were in the host country (Hammer 2010). Therefore, the synagogue was the central institution of Judaism after the exile. In the beginning, Israel was a tribal society that was organised according to the acknowledgement of the twelve sons of patriarch Jacob (Zvi 2012, p.25). After the exile, tribal groups were replaced by clans. The tribal society was only credible before the Jews left their motherland. • 23. The Statue Of Liberty Analysis The Statue of Liberty has a greater significance that cannot be seen so blatantly. While at first it may just seem that this monument is not that complex, but with a deeper analysis many new and surprising emblematic meanings arise. While analyzing this monument we can see how the text correlates with the changing of its meaning. We can also see how the physical embodiment of the Statue plays a major role in affecting the viewers in multiple ways. The monument appeals to a lot of ethnicities that have been included in its history. The text on the Statue of Liberty may be one of the most vital parts of the monument. Inside the pedestal there is a sonnet written by American poet Emma Lazarus. This sonnet was originally made to raise funds for the Statue but officials and the public realized the impact it had and decided to include it in the monument in 1903. The sonnet is called The New Colossus and is directed to immigrants arriving through Ellis island. It includes statements and words like world wide welcome and Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free . The Statue of Liberty was a symbol of welcoming and new life for many immigrants which came from all over the world. Many of these immigrants were escaping from famines that ravished their countries or many governments, especially in Europe, did not provide the same economical opportunities as the United States did, hence the sonnet receiving any new populace who wanted to have a ... • 24. Stephen Kumalo s Cry The Beloved Country Alan Paton Analysis Msimangu once told Stephen Kumalo, I have one great fear in my heart, that one day when they are turned to loving, they will find we are turned to hating (Paton 71). Showing love to others is paramount when it comes to striving to live like Jesus rather than judging others for what they have or have not done. Even the most high up people who appear to have no flaw within them are just as fallen and broken as the rest of society. In Alan Paton s Cry, the Beloved Country, Stephen Kumalo, a parson from Ndotsheni, shows his flaws by demonstrating his sins against others. Stephen Kumalo sins against his son s girlfriend to test her and find out if she would remain loyal Absalom because he believes she will go and find another man to live with. When Stephen visits Ablsalom s girlfriend, he becomes angered toward her: He stood up, and and a wish to hurt her came into him. Although he knew it was not seemingly, he yielded to it... (Paton 146). Stephen displays his true colors by making a mistake and sinning through his endeavor to tempt Absalom s girlfriend into being with him rather than remaining loyal to his son. This sin and wish to hurt her should be taken as a threat to her because that sort of behavior should be reprimanded no matter the circumstances. Each person should be held responsible for their actions and words because both have an immense effect on others. Even though an act of sin against another person is almost unforgivable, God owns the power to forgive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Truth Manipulation In Maus I solemnly swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth. But what is truth? No possible way exists for there to be a completely unfiltered recollection of the past. Whether consciously or not, events can be warped and distorted into stories with exaggerated details, fragmented incidents, and whatever specifics keep the self image we feel the need to maintain. All of these elements are seen throughout Maus, with both Art, the author, and Vladek Spiegelman exemplifying complications of truth. The subtle and not so subtle instances of truth manipulation can consistently be seen throughout the books, which cause the questioning of what can be considered reality in all literature. Whether consciously or not, truth is manipulated in literature, since perfect memories cannot be recalled, as seen in Maus. Maus displays numerous events where the line between reality and falsified details become blurred, a problem that is seen repeatedly in our own lives. Spiegelman, like all authors has the power to control what the book is conveying to the reader, either to be persuasive or manipulate of the story itself. Entire scenes were invented in Maus for Spiegelman to communicate his philosophy about truth to his readers. As said in a conversation between Art and Françoise, See what I mean, in real life you d never have let me talk this long without interrupting. • 26. Analysis Of Fences By August Wilson The Future is in Your Hands. Children grow up naturally emulating the adults around them, for most it is their mother and father, this is natural and typically a positive thing. There are times, however, when the people that children emulate are not the best examples society has to offer. In the play Fences Cory looks up to his dad when it comes to sports. However, by the end of the play the reader starts to notice that Troy is not the man to look up to. The plot in Fences by August Wilson is centered around an African American family that looks at the world a little differently by that I mean when Troy was young people believed blacks shouldn t be able to do the things whites can. People were rude and outspoken about how they felt when it came to sharing public things with blacks. Now Troy s sons are living in a world that has evolved and is not as racist, the boys can go out and achieve their dreams, even if they are African American it may be difficult but is still achievable. Because of the change in the way of life there has been a conflict between the two boys and their father. Troy may realize that things are different now, but that doesn t change the fact that it is hard for him to let go of the past. Because Troy was unable to play baseball based on his race, he believes Cory shouldn t be able to go on and play college football. This raises a big question, is Troy being unfair or is he trying to look out for his son? The main theme throughout the play Fences is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Medieval Vs. Renaissance Philosophy Collin Kwasigroch Dr. Molvarec History 1002 9/29/17 Medieval Vs Renaissance Philosophy The Medieval Era was a time dominated by belief. People lived with such great superstition and fear of God. Many people were focused not on their lives her on earth, but rather their life after death. During the Renaissance people became more humanistic and focused more on their lives in the moment rather than their afterlife. We can see these changes of Ideas by studying the works of Saint Anselm of Canterbury, Saint Thomas Aquinas, Thomas a Kempis, and Caesarius of Heisterbach from the Medieval Era and compare it to the works of Marsilio Ficino, Leonardo Da Vinci, Niccolo Machiavelli, and Desiderius Erasmus of the Renaissance period we can see ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here Aquinas argues that everything that happens is the cause of something, but nothing can cause itself. If we trace back a cause all the way back to the beginning of the world, it could not have caused itself. Therefore, God must have been the first cause. Aquinas third proof is the Argument from Contingency. We see that everything here on earth is finite. People die, empires fall. All things must come to an end. That means things had to have a beginning where nothing was in existence yet. How did things come into existence? God. Aquinas s 4th argument is the Argument of Degrees. Here we judge things to be a certain degree of good or bad. But what are we comparing that to? If they have a certain degree of good and bad, then what is the greatest degree of good? And that must be God. Aquinas s final argument is his Argument from Design. Perhaps one of his strongest arguments Aquinas says that there must be an intelligent designer behind everything. Random objects don t have any brains to act the way they do. But they are directed in the way they act by God. Thomas a Kempis is famous for his work in The Imitation of Christ. The book is one of the most famous devotional books for Christians right after the Bible. In his book he tells the common folk how to live like Christ (Hence the name Imitation of Christ ). Yes, asymptotic means that the curve of a line will approach 0 (the x axis), but it will not touch 0 and instead will extend to infinity. In this class, this applies to the normal continuous distribution and is one of the 4 key characteristics of a normal continuous distribution that our text book discusses. This means that the curve of the line will extend infinitely in both the negative and positive direction in exact mirror image patterns on either side of the mean. This would account for 99.7% of the area under the curve. According to this theory, virtually all flights would have between 122 182 passengers. Is the total area within any continuous probability distribution equal to 1.00? Yes. If we are a talking about uniform probability distributions (rectangles), the area must equal 1. We can find this using Area = basexheight or (b a/1) x (1/b a). Using this equation, both fractions will cancel out to give you a value of 1.00. If we are talking about normal probability distributions, they are bell shaped with a single peak at the distribution centre and therefore, they are symmetrical about the mean. This means that the two halves of the curve are identical and they both have values of 0.5 (0.5 to the left of the mean and 0.5 to the right of the mean). Is the uniform probability distribution s standard deviation proportional to the distribution s range? Yes. The equation for standard deviation for a uniform probability distribution is = SQRT [ (b a)^2/12]. A range is the difference between the max and min values for a distribution (b a). In my opinion, coach Boone had many leadership strengths: He had his goal to make the team a winning team, and to do that he knew he would have to overcome many obstacles, to make the players a real team and a group of players. To do that, he needed the capacity to motivate the team, to push them harder to achieve the goals, to make them expect more from themselves and their teammates. For me, one of the best moments that showed coach Boone was a very good leader was when he Boone woke up all the players in the evening and made them run with him.
