1. 5 Paragraph Essays Examples
Crafting an essay on the topic "5 Paragraph Essays Examples" may pose both challenges and
opportunities. While the structure of a five-paragraph essay is ostensibly straightforward, delving
into examples involves a nuanced understanding of various subjects and the ability to analyze
them effectively. The difficulty lies not only in presenting examples but also in ensuring they
align with the thesis and contribute to a cohesive narrative.
One hurdle is selecting diverse yet relevant examples that resonate with the reader. This requires
extensive research and critical thinking to identify instances that not only support your argument
but also provide depth and insight. The challenge is to strike a balance between variety and
cohesion, avoiding the trap of presenting disconnected examples that might dilute the essay's
focus.
Additionally, crafting a compelling introduction and conclusion poses its own set of difficulties.
The introduction must captivate the reader, clearly stating the purpose and setting the stage for
the examples to follow. On the other hand, the conclusion needs to tie the examples together,
reinforcing the central thesis without introducing new information.
Furthermore, maintaining a consistent flow between paragraphs is crucial. Each paragraph should
smoothly transition into the next, creating a logical progression of ideas. This requires careful
planning and organization to ensure that the essay does not feel disjointed or erratic.
In terms of time management, the process of researching, selecting examples, and refining the
essay can be time-consuming. Juggling these tasks while adhering to the constraints of a five-
paragraph structure demands discipline and effective time allocation.
Despite these challenges, mastering the art of crafting essays on this topic is a valuable skill. It
hones one's ability to research, analyze, and communicate ideas concisely—a skill set that
extends beyond academic pursuits.
In conclusion, navigating the intricacies of writing an essay on "5 Paragraph Essays Examples"
requires a combination of research, critical thinking, and effective organization. Overcoming
these challenges, however, can enhance one's ability to articulate ideas clearly and persuasively.

2. The Existence Of Extraterrestrial Life
Unidentified Flying Objects or UFO sightings have exploded into a worldwide
phenomena, but still there are many people who refuse to believe that
extraterrestrial life exist. It is hard for some to wrap their head around the idea of
little green men from outer space being more advanced in space travel than
humans. The earliest UFO sightings in recorded history can be found in 4th
century Chinese texts claiming that a moon boat hovered above China every 12
years, and ever since people have been claiming to see or be abducted by UFOs (
M.J. Stephey). Aliens exist because of the amount of planets that can support life,
UFOS have been seen all across the world, and there is a FBI agency dedicated to
covering up the existence of extraterrestrial life.
The fact that NASA has spent years searching for planets that could support life
makes people wonder whether there could be life already out there. In 2009
NASA launched the Kepler space telescope hoping to find as many habitable
planets as possible. Kepler has found over 1000 exoplanets and confirmed that
twelve are within habitable zones. Scientists look at many factors to determine in a
planet can be habitable: how close it is to its host star, if it has an atmosphere, and
if the planet has traces of water (Mike Wall). After 15 years of research NASA
announced the discovery of water on Mars. Scientist believe that the red planet could
of been covered in oceans at one point in time, but over time the water evaporated

4. The First Creation Myth Is The Hindu Version Of Creation
The first creation myth is the Hindu version of creation, and it is about the
sacrifice of the Man (Purusha), the man with a thousand heads, eyes, and feet. The
Man himself is all this, whatever has been and whatever is to be and he is the
creator and the one creation comes from. He is sacrificed by the gods and his body
makes up the earth. The Man s mouth was the brahmin, his arms were made into the
nobles, his two thighs were the populace, and from his feet the servants were born.
The moon was born from his mind; the sun was born from his eye. After, his mouth
came Indra (4) and Agni, and from his vital breath the wind (Vyu) was born. Then his
navel the atmosphere was born; from his head the heavenemerged. From his two feet
came the earth, and the expanses of the sky from his ear.
The second creation story is the story from the Bible, which is Christians version
of creation. On the first day God (the creator) created light, the second day God
created waters, the atmospheric water and the oceanic water. On the third day God
created dry land and vegetation, and on the forth day he created the sun and the
moon and the stars and planets. On the fifth day God created water creatures and
birds, and on the sixth day he created land animals and man. God creates all this out
of nothing and it takes him six days. He creates all this for the man to rule over and
to multiply and for men to in turn praise him.
The third creation myth is from the Huainanzi and it tells of the great
5. How does The Love Song of J.Alfred Prufrock reflect...
How does The Love Song of J.Alfred Prufrock reflect T.S.Eliot s concerns about the
modern world? T.S.Eliot s poem, The Love Song of J.Alfred Prufrock, is written in
a modernist style. This becomes apparent from the very first stanza, when he
describes a sunset. In Georgian poetry, a sunset is usually described in a beautiful
sense, whereas Eliot has compared it to a patient etherised upon a table . The
language Eliot has used is one of a scientific and sterile nature. He may be trying to
raise questions as to what we perceive as beautiful in our modern world, as people
used to believe nature was the most beautiful sight on earth, whereas now people
may perceive modern buildings or sports cars to be beautiful objects. Therefore, it...

The degradation of traditional values is revealed when Eliot comments on the
restless nights in one night cheap hotels , as this insinuates there is a sexual
relationship of adulterous or promiscuous nature. This is because any traditional
relationship would be done in a more romantic setting, and not in a one night cheap
hotel . Therefore it is permissible to say that Eliot mourns the traditional romantics
of the Georgian era. Eliot could be criticising the modern world for its lack of
permanent structures when he refers to sawdust restaurants . As one imagines
sawdust restaurants to be cheap and only function for a relatively short period of
time. The title of the poem is highly ironic, as Prufrock is deeply socially inept,
especially with women. We understand this in the semi refrain, In the room the
women come and go,/ Talking of Michelangelo . The scene pictured here highlights
a few key points. Firstly, we understand that Prufrock feels alienated from this
scene, as he is an uncultured, ordinary man, who probably has no knowledge of art.
Secondly, we see that Prufrock does not know how to approach or socialise with
women. Another point in which we see Prufrock afraid of women, is when he says
Is it perfume from a dress/that makes me so digress? . Prufrock is implying that he is

I have always found the peer review process to be beneficial on both ends, whether
you are the writer or the reader, are being reviewed or are the reviewer. Having
multiple sets of eyes proofread your paper should help more than hurt. It is your
choice if you want to take the advice your peers gave. You have the option of not
making any changes at all, so whether you decide to take the advice or not, it does
not hurt to receive them. In Paper One, I found that peer reviewing others was a bit
difficult because any comments made could be offending them. I felt that I would
come off as criticizing the kind of person one is, instead of one s work since the
assignment was to write about something that is personal. In Sarah Jackson s UGA s

7. An Analysis of Vibration
An oscillating motion of a particle or body about a reference point which is fixed is
known as vibration. This motion is sinusoidal i.e., simple harmonic or otherwise
non sinusoidal i.e., complex. This can occur in different modes as translational or
bending modes and, since the vibration can occur in more modes at a time,
vibration analysis is very much difficult. Units of vibration The units of vibration
depend on the vibrational parameter as follows: Acceleration in units of m/s2.
Velocity in units of m/s. Displacement in units of m. Some effects of vibration
Vibration can cause damage to structures and machine sub assembly, resulting in mis
operation, excessive wear, or even fatigue failure. Vibration may have adverse
effects on human beings. The primary effects are task performance interference;
motion sickness; breathing and speech disturbance; and a hand tool disease known
as white finger , where the nerves in the fingers are permanently damaged, resulting
in loss of touch sensitivity. Characteristics of vibration Vibration may be
characterized by: a) The frequency in Hz; b) The amplitude of the measured
parameter, which may be displacement, velocity, or acceleration. This is normally
referred to as the vibration amplitude when expressed in units, but vibration level
when expressed in decibels. Decibel notation applied to vibration measurement
Because of the wide range of vibration amplitudes found in engineering, it is
convenient to express the

11. Delays At Logan Airport Essay
ASSIGNMENT QUESTIONS FOR THE DELAYS AT LOGAN AIRPORT CASE
QUESTION 1 (25 points)
In the Delays at Logan Airport case, there are different proposals for reducing
congestion. One of the methods proposed to tackle the impact of delays was peak
period pricing, PPP.
In the case, good weather operational capacity (i.e., both arrivals and departures)
was around 120 planes per hour. Assuming that the number of arrivals
approximately equals the number of departures, we obtain an average arrival
capacity of 60 planes per hour. Although there are three runways in operation during
good weather, only two of them are used for arrivals, which imply that each arrival
runway has an hourly capacity of 30 planes per hour. During the peak period, ... Show

Do you believe PPP would have a significant effect if the typical airplane mix were
40% turboprop, 18% regional jet, and 42% conventional jet, as it approximately
stands at Logan?
iii) What would your answer be if we had a 10% turboprop, 30% regional jet, and
60% conventional jet mix, as one future scenario for 2015?
c)To what extend might savings in delay costs that result from demand management
offset peak period fees?
QUESTION 3 (18 points)
The case clearly states that adverse weather conditions are the primary cause of
delay. When winds from the northwest become moderately strong, Logan s
capacity drops from three runways (where one runway handles both arrivals and
departures, one runway only departures and one runway only arrivals) to two
(where two runways handle both arrivals and departures). Arrival capacity in the
former case averages around 60 planes per hour and in the latter case, 45 planes an
hour. When weather conditions are particularly severe, only one runway for both
arrivals and departures is in operation, and total arrival capacity drops to 30
operations per hour.
a) During adverse weather conditions which of the fundamental assumptions of
queueing theory discussed in class is violated? Discuss how, in reality, does the
system function in spite of this violation?
Assume Logan s weekday peaking pattern resembles the year

Sources of ancillary revenue include fees for baggage, ticket change, extra amenities,
annual subscriptions to premium services, frequent flyer programs (FFP), and even
on board duty free sales. Some of the more innovative sources (such as annual

for the airline and promote brand loyalty. Such strategies helped the airlines improve
profitability for 2013.
Improved profitability is allowing airlines to increase strategic investment for future
growth.
Airlines are boosting investments to enhance their customer product offering and
operating efficiencies. Example, in addition to new airplanes, airlines are investing in
new information and mobile technology, upgraded cabin interiors for higher levels of
service, and additional seats to improve unit costs. Some airlines are increasing equity
investment in other airlines and cross border partnerships to solidify and expand
networks. Reinvestment of profit into airline products enhances the long term growth
prospects for the industry.

Giorgio and Costantino had their first involvement in the family business during

World War I, the company had completed its shift from an emphasis on silver to

Roman art. After Sotirio died in 1932, his sons undertook an extravagant remodeling
of both the interior and the exterior of the Via Condotti store and formally changed
the company logo to BVLGARI, an application of the traditional Roman alphabet.
The ВЈ2 million project took two years and featured the pink and beige Italian
marble that would become the worldwide hallmark of the firm s retail outlets.
Giorgio s global gem sourcing travels exposed him to the latest fashions in the then
Paris based jewelry industry, while Costantino s penchant for collecting ancient
silver wares would later be a source of inspiration for the company s adaptation of
classical themes. Having latched onto style trends emanating from Paris, Bulgari

In particular, one of these seven species is comprised of the loggerhead sea turtle
(Caretta caretta). The largest of all hard shelled turtles, loggerheads have massive
heads, strong jaws, and a reddish brown shell, or carapace. Their front flippers are
short and thick with 2 claws, while the rear flippers can have 2 or 3 claws.
Loggerhead hatchlings have a dark brown carapace with pale brown flippers.
According to National Geographic (2015), adult males reach about three feet
(nearly one meter) in shell length and weigh about 250 pounds (113 kilograms), but
large specimens of more than 1,000 pounds (454 kilograms) have been found. They
are primarily carnivores, munching jellyfish, conchs, crabs, and even fish, but will
eat seaweed occasionally. They prefer to feed in coastal bays and estuaries, as well as
the shallow water along the continental shelves of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian
Oceans.
Loggerheads live in oceans all over the world, except in the coldest seas. There are
more loggerheads in the waters of the United States than any other species of sea

15. The Effects Of Tactile Communication On The Human
Resource...
One type of nonverbal communication is haptics. Haptics refers to the study of
communication by touch (Anonymous, 2012). According to Anonymous, 2012,
touch is necessary for human social development, and it can be welcoming,
threatening, or persuasive. The meaning of a simple touch differs between
individuals, genders, and cultures. It is important for the Human Resource Manager
(HRM) to recognize these differences in order to improve communicationand be
effective in the workplace. Tactile communication can help or hinder business and
employee interactions. A firm handshake might be interpreted as confidence or
credibility while other physical touches such as lingering touch on the shoulder,
might be seen as being intimate (Anonymous, 2012). However, a pat on the shoulder
or arm might help initiate interactions and show inclusion and respect. Proper
knowledge of tactile differences among employees have important implications on
how interactions unfold and relationships established.
The implications of tactile communication or touch is important to know not only as
a HRM but as an employee working in a diverse workplace.
Since we communicate a great deal through touch, there are benefits by being
knowledgeable about this type of nonverbal communication and the differences
among various ethnic groups. Benefits for the HRM as well as managers include
respect, trust, an effective communicator, and better employee relationships.
Additionally, understanding haptics enables

Hughes
The short story Volar by Judith Ortiz Cofer, and the poem Harlem by Langston
Hughes share a common theme which is the elusive American dream, thus,
compared to a pot of gold for migrants. There are several ideas that pertain to elusive
American dream of both the short story and the poem. First, in Volar, a family
migrated from Puerto Ricoto New Jersey to seek opportunities and better life
conditions. Similarly, in Harlem, it speaks about African Americans who migrated
from the South to the North for better working conditions. Secondly, in Volar, the
reality of how hard to attain the American dream is evident as the story described the
living conditions in their tiny apartment. In a like manner, the poem Harlem
expresses the devastation in the truth that American dream of African Americans is
unattainable. Lastly, both the short storyand the poem have a message of hardship
contrary to their expectations once settled in the place of what they thought to be
the end of the rainbow. Furthermore, some similarities and differences of figurative
languages are used in both the short story and the poem. For the similarities, in
Volar, the author used similes, allusion and repetition of significant words which
reinforce the theme. The similes are Supergirl comic books in my bedroom closet
that was tall as I am , and sleek and hard as a supersonic missile (Cofer 317). In
addition, the allusions refer to Legion of Super Heroes and Supergirl comic books,

20. Mother-Daughter Relationships In Silver Sparrow By
Tayari...
In the book, Silver Sparrow, the mother daughter relationships between Dana and
Gwen to Chaurisse and Laverne show various similarities and differences. The two
relationships between mother and daughter are very noticeable throughout the novel.
Tayari Jones made it easy for readers to distinguish the types of relationships the
mothers and the daughters have together. The motherdaughter relationships also have
a role with James relationship with each family. To begin with, the two mother
daughter relationships have a few similarities throughout the novel. One similarity is
the strong relationship between each other. For example, Gwen would lie on Dana s
bed, talk to her, and watch her play with toys (11). In addition, Gwen sticks up for...

Laverne has been with James since she was fourteen because Laverne got pregnant
with James child (165). James is usually present with their family unless he is
visiting with Dana and Gwen. James is super close with Chaurisse growing up.
When Chaurisse was a baby, she had colic and James was the one who could calm
her down (220). Their relationship is close and James lets Chaurisse help him with
work. For example, Chaurisse was the attendant for Ruth Nicole Elizabeth Grant s
sweet sixteen while James drove the limo (229). As I read the novel, I noticed a lot
that Laverne and Chaurisse meant so much more to James than Dana and Gwen. For
instance, when Laverne and Chaurisse found out about Gwen and Dana, James kept
fighting for Laverne until she took him back (329 333). This goes to show that their
mother daughter relationship shaped James relationship with them completely
different that Dana and
21. Figurative Language In Yeats s The Wild Swans At Coole
Mysterious, beautiful are words that spring to mind in regard to Yeats poetry. There
is no denying the complexity of some of his poetry much like this quote from the
Wild Swans at Coole many of his poems have both a literal and figurative meaning. I
found some aspects of Yeats poetry quite challenging at times, on the other hand, I
found that he also had the ability to get complex ideas across using both direct and
accessible language.
Yeats use of figurative language and metaphor baffled me at first. His poems are
bursting with symbols, which must be deciphered in order to get to the core of the
poem. There is no doubt that this can be difficult, but it can also be very rewarding.
An apt example of this is Sailing to Byzantium (SB), ... Show more content on

This predominant autobiographical quality of his work makes his poems thought
provoking it gives the reader an insight into the reality of the poets life. The poet also
talks about his life with a determined honesty, sometimes resulting in an unflattering
portrait of himself, adds to this appeal. The final section of the second stanza in E16
deals with Major John MacBride. Yeats despised this man. He was married to Maud
Gonne, the loves of Yeats life. Despite the personal animosity, which Yeats had
towards MacBride, he admires his actions and sacrifices. He had done most bitter
wrong to some who are near my heart, yet I number him in the song . This adds a
personal aspect to the poem E16. The poem WSC is a deeply personal poem that
discusses unrequited love. This poem evoked a sadness in me as I sympathised
with Yeats. There s something terribly tragic about the fact that in nineteen short
years he has gone from being a young man who trod with a lighter tread , a man
with all the possibilities of the world stretching before him, to one whose heart is
sore . I definitely felt like there was a lesson for me there
22. Television Dbq
Effects of Television on Coverage People say television has increased people s
awareness of politics to make elections more fair and accessible. However, I think
TV has had a negative impact because it promotes a superficial image and provides
content that will give the TV station good ratings.
Television promotes the candidates image over their policies. Instead of the
candidates discussing what they are going to do for the country, they simply argue
why they are better than each other. The candidates being televised gives the
audience a sense of knowing them, which causes them to no longer feel the need for
party guidance (Source B). In other words, the audience no longer feels the need of
the politician s policies due to basing their judgments on the superficial
characteristics. In a recent political debate, candidates Donald Trump and Hillary
Clinton argued that their images weren t very presidential. It started off with Trump
saying Clinton didn t have the looks and the stigma of a president and she quickly
fired back that Trump didn t have the temperament. Instead of discussing how they
were going to run the country they just bickered about appearance. The ... Show more

Over time, TV lost its viewers and ratings because people turned away from politics.
In order for the television stations to gain back viewers and ratings, the stations
dumbed down the issues by forcing the candidates to respond instantaneously (Source

provided less information about the politicians. Dumbing down the information has
turned the debate into game making it less about the politicians content and more
about arguing over pointless things and ratings. However this has furthermore
decreased the interest in politics. Even the stations that dumb down content are
failing, more often than not, to get good ratings (Source
23. What Is Meant by the Kingdom of God Essay
Outline what Jesus must have meant when he used the term: Kingdom of God . The
term Kingdom of God (or as is otherwise referred to as Kingdom of Heaven in
Matthew s Gospel) is mentioned throughout the Four Gospels. Over the centuries
many scholars have reached the same conclusion that the central theme of Jesus
message regards the Kingdom of God. But what did Jesus mean by this term? This
essay aims to discuss the meaning of the term Kingdom of God and what Jesus must
have meant by this.

Consequently it is fair to say that to the Jewish people of Jesus time the term
Kingdom of God was interpreted as a time when God s rule would be restored
through a descendant of David and things would be good again. Macquarrie sums
their view precisely when he states, The coming of the Kingdom would mean the
judgement of the existing order, the overthrow of all evil and demonic powers and a
new order in which God s perfect reign would be manifested.
In contrast Pope Benedict XVI s book, Jesus of Nazareth, stated that the Kingdom of
God is ... an inner disposition characterised in daily behaviour by adopting the
mind and outlook of Christ... A teacher of the law once asked Jesus, Which
commandment is the most important? He deemed loving God and your neighbour
as the two most important. So here it is clear that Jesus is talking about love as a
major theme in personal conduct a theme which is exemplified by biblical stories
of Jesus own behaviour. Jesus demonstrated his love for others on many occasions
and in many different ways. He spoke to people who were outcasts or disliked such
as the woman at the well and Zacchaeus. He met people s physical needs through

In the first chapter of The Woman Warrior, No Name Woman, Kingston tells the story
her mother told her as a teenager about her aunt s untimely death. Throughout the
story, many remarks proving the empowerment of Chinese women are made. In the
middle of the story, Kingston s mother stops to say, Don t humiliate us. You wouldn t
like to be forgotten as if you had never been born (Kingston 5). This is seemingly
demeaning, but is actually empowering. It shows that while Chinese women are
thought to be disappointments to be forgotten, they also have to power to determine
whether or not everyone will remember their name. Brave Orchid s words reflect the
notion in Chinese society that a womanhas the power to accomplish anything; if she

It shows that while men cast women off into roles of being incompetent, loyal

silent, unable to be shook by the terrors brought on by her never ending rape.
While this may seem meek and fearful, it is actually brave and powerful. Kingston
s aunt was an empowered woman, by not letting her rapist get to her, and by doing
as she was told, while continuing on normally in life. Most people would think that
by killing herself, she is actually not empowered. However, every action a person
takes does not have to be thought of as an empowered action for them to be
considered an empowered person. Sometimes, the most empowered people are the

because it is human and normal. Kingston shows this same quality herself in the next
25. The Presidential Election Of 1860
The presidential election of 1860 set the stage for the American Civil war. By
1860, the nation had been divided mostly up to that point regarding questions of
states rights and slavery in the territories. Southerners were outraged over the plan
by abolitionist, John Brown, to start a slave rebellion at Harper Ferry, Virginia.
This event garnered headlines all over the nation in newspapers and magazines. On
the other hand, the Northern Republic seemed equally anger by the Supreme Court
decision in the case of Dred Scott v. Stanford, which declared free soil
unconstitutional. The Northern Democrats, however, struggled to persuade the
Americans that their policy of popular sovereignty still made since. Enter the
presidential election of 1860, which brought these problems to a collision with
dramatic consequences. The Democratic Party split into three groups along their
regional lines, with each one vying for control of the party and each holding
different ideas about how to deal with slavery in the West. They camps consisted of
John C. Breckinride, John Bell, and Stephen A. Douglas; their efforts would be
worthless however, as Abraham Lincoln would win for the Republican Party.
Lincoln stood on the grounds that the West should be absolutely free of slavery
entirely; which apparently was enough as he won the election with less than forty
percent of the popular vote. On a side note about the election, fifty nine percent of
the Electoral College did vote for Lincoln;

Northanger Abbey: Authenticity
In what is for Jane Austen an uncharacteristically direct intervention, the narrator of
Northanger Abbey remarks near the end: The anxiety, which in the state of their
attachment must be the portion of Henry and Catherine, and of all who loved either,
as to its final event, can hardly extend, I fear, to the bosom of my readers, who will

significantly more sexy and mysterious looking than the other mounted on
handsome, powerful, snorting horses galloping flat out across a field. (True, the

by the five hour time frame, Davies had a different if equally money driven kind of

the narrative so that it contained a series of regularly spaced, unresolved mini
climaxes, to leave the audience dangling and

32. Ideology In The Selfish Giant, And The Bling Ring
In both the films we watched in class a large range of ideological perspectives were
presented, and those perspectives were largely based upon their director s views and
opinions of the world. The two films were The Selfish Giant directed by Clio
Bernard, and The Bling Ring directed by Sophia Coppola. Ideologyis a very important
concept in both films, and it can be defined as a systematic body of ideas, attitudes,
values and perspectives that help shape a particular cultureor group within that
culture. Each director uses formal elements, and character values to show specific
ideologies. In The Bling Ring Sophia Coppla focuses on showing the life style that
a group of corrupt teens so desperately wants to live, and why the culture
surrounding them is the reason for their corrupt values. While the film The Selfish
Giant highlights issues of working class people, and a culture that has put children in
a position where stealing to support ones family feels like doing the right thing.
Select characters in each film have a fascination with material things, and although
they have very different reasons for them the side effects they experience because of
these fascinations are very similar. In The Bling Ring the characters have a strong
desire to acquire the most popular, and extravagant fashion items; the motivation
behind this desire is that they have learned base their self worth off the things they

A solid point he makes in his argument is that he had three labs and more

that due to the lack of funding for the archaeologists, treasure hunters are sometimes
the ones to rely on to excavate the underwater sites. His final point is that an

this side of the argument, it must be asked if the real damage here is the potential

reason treasure hunters would cause more damage. A lack in knowledge to find

39. Case Study Frederick Historical Society
Question #4:
When constructing an exhibit, the museum staff must ask themselves: What
demographic are we designing this exhibit for. Correspondingly, the museum staff
ponders what is the line of sight for the targeted demographic, so they know where to
place the artifacts and how the exhibit should be structured. Similarly, the museum
staff must predict how the public will respond to their exhibit and the necessary
precautions to avoid negative reviews. Most importantly, the museum staff must
question if the exhibit can offend a certain demographic and the steps they will need
to take to properly represent that society. When creating an exhibit, the museum staff
must contemplate how the structure and content will relate to the audience and what
is the best approach to have interaction between the exhibit and its attended audience.

At the Frederick Historical Society, we have a room for newly obtained artifacts
that need to be catalogued. When an object is catalogued its expected location and
current condition is documented along with a summary about the object s
significance. Also, at the Historical Society they have limited their collection to
only artifacts that have a relation to Frederick, this decision allows our collection to
maintain somewhat controllable. Correspondingly, if we have an abundance of an
objects i.e. chairs from the 1800 s, we will not accept the newly donated materials or
we will turn the object into a hands on activity. This approach is similar to the hands
on muskets at the Civil War and Medicine Museum. Furthermore, the Historical
Society has an offsite facility to help manage its enormous collection. Most
importantly, it is the job of the collection manager to ensure that all objects are
catalogued correctly and placed in the proper
40. Zebra Mussel Research Paper
Minnesota has recently been plagued by a Zebra Mussel infestation in many of their
lakes in the state. Now, over 200 bodies of water are home to the invasive species,
with Washington County s Forrest Lake being the most recent. Minnesotan officials
are saying that they have already raised boat inspection hours, however, with the
continual infestation, they will have to do so once again. With the previous 1,500
annual boat inspection hours being the already heightened time, the DNR (http:/
/www.dnr.state.mn.us/invasives/aquaticanimals/zebramussel/index.html) will raise
the inspection hours to 3,100.
It is incredibly important to keep watercraft clean so that these infestations do not
occur. The best way to do this is to clean the boat or other craft after each use before
storing it.
Why are Zebra Mussel Infestations Harmful? ... Show more content on

The reasoning for this is quite clear. First off, they disrupt the local food chain.
Even though they are relatively small, when they enter an ecosystem, they filter
feed, taking away food from the microscopic organisms who are a vital player in
said ecosystem. As a result of these microorganisms not getting food, they die off,
and the various species that feed from them no longer have food. This chain of
events continues the whole way up the food chain, until there are very few or even
no life left in the ecosystem, save for the newly introduced Zebra Mussel

42. Use Of Imagery In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood
In Cold Blood Response At this point in the book, the killers, Dick and Perry, are
on the run. Detective Dewey is struggling to find clues. He thinks that there may
have been more than one killer. Dewey is also having trouble finding a motive, as
he tries to reimagine the crime. One literary device that Capote utilizes is imagery.
It is most noticeable when he describes the atmosphere of the town after the murder.
Imagination, of course, can open any door turn the key and let terror walk right in.
Ever since the murder, the people of Holcomb have been imagining the worse.
Capote puts it perfectly as he describes the town that the hunters see when they first
arrive from Colorado: windows ablaze, almost every window in almost every house,
43. My Family Experience
This experience has been emotionally demanding for me and a bit awkward. First
off, immediate family speaking, we have an implicit norm of not offending people
by criticism their actions but also, it s weird to compliment people on their
behaviour. We stick to thank you , I appreciate what you did and when there is a
behaviour we find annoying we don t say a word. As for my big family, in which I
include my immediate family (mom and brother), my boyfriend and my local
church, we are allowed to give compliment and to share emotions with one another.
With this context being placed, it was easier to compliment my church sister C and
my boyfriend because we had this pre establish norm of it s acceptable to
compliment and receive compliment and criticisms but a bit harder to throw the first
one at my mom.
The easiest appreciation to give was to my boyfriend, I have even say it twice. I
believe it s because. We have a turning toward response to each other s bids
(Gottman DeClaire, 2001) it makes it easier for us to compliment each other and
even criticize politely one another.
The hardest I would say was the first one that I gave to my mom, it felt like an ice
breaker. I perceived it as breaking an implicit norm or rule we had for many years.
As I have recorded, in the table above, the impressions I had from the three
compliments/appreciations to my mother were each different, in her verbal response
as well as my interpretations. She first thought it was a question
44. How Richard Avedon Changed Photography
A photographer takes a picture of an object or scene and freezes it in a way that
captures how they saw it. Many photographers have different styles just like painters
or writers do. Some are more similar to each other, while others stand out more from
the crowd and like to stretch the boundaries. These styles usually act as a foundation
for a new style of photography. One of the most influential and famous photographers
of the 20th century was Richard Avedon. Richard Avedon was a fashion photographer
who changed photography forever.
Richard Avedon was born on May 15, 1923 in New York City. He was born to Anna
Avedon and Jacob Israel. Avedon attended DeWitt Clinton High School where he
followed a passion for poetry with his friend James Baldwin. ... Show more content

One thing that really separates Avedon from other fashion photographers is that in
his pictures he made sure his models were conveying emotion and movement rather
than the typical fashion picture where the model is bland and motionless. He would
at times evoke reactions from his portrait subjects by guiding them into
uncomfortable areas of discussion or asking them psychologically probing questions.
Through these means he would produce images revealing aspects of his subject s
character and personality that were not typically captured by others. (2) Avedon s
style usually conveyed a figure looking squarely at the camera rather than at the
person. The figure is usually stationed in front of a white background. This meant
soft light and props were eliminated allowing the focus of the picture to be solely on
the person. The final images would usually be bordered by the film outline and
would generally only show a portion of the figure. Most photographers can only take
pictures that either captured a moment in time or a formal image, not both. Avedon,
however, was capable of doing
45. Corruption Of Optimism In Voltaire s Candide
The humourous perspective upon philosophy and the general follies of life
constructs Candide as a novel to transcend Voltaire s society and remain relevant to
current day. As it is for his satirization of various ideology, specially optimism and
pessimism, that makes Voltaire s purpose apparent to present day. As there is no
perfect philosophyin which to partake in life, especially each one with their own
benefits and downfalls. And that a mixture of these beliefs result in a better line of
thinking. Thus, the characters in Candide demonstrate each stereotypical philosophy
by alluding to their respecting philosopher to portray Voltaires overall purpose.
Furthermore, Pangloss, as characterized by Voltaire for representing the affinity of
optimism, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And since he values himself above Leibniz and Rousseau, Voltaire alludes to
himself as the form of Cacambo and James the Anabaptist. These characters
demonstrate rational lines of thinking for asserting wise courses of actions,
resonating their reputations as being worthy fellows for the other characters within
(Candide, 87). Rather than always see the best or worse within situations, these
realists, or Voltaire himself, sees the events as hand as rational beings. To the
reader, these approaches are appropriate as compared to the outrageousness of
Pangloss s or Leibniz s everything always being for the best and Martin s or
Rousseau s perspective upon men were created by the forces of evil. And it s by
Voltaire s major stereotyping these philosophies can the reader make the distinctive
difference between the two and where their faults lie. His allusions within these
characters satirizes the unsound thought patterns within the philosophies, pointing to
the disadvantages to each side of the spectrum. While optimism saw everything as
always being right and pessimism seeing everything as always having a corrupted
source, the realist ideal fits between the two to persuade the reader as this approach is
more sound than the other

There are many real life horror stories that drew a lot of attention. There are many
movies, books and even songs about those real life time horror events.
For instance the movie The Exorcist is a 1973 American Supernatural horror film
directed by William Friedkin, released in 1973. The film is based on a true story that
happened in the late 1940 s, in the United States. The story is documented under the
pseudonym Ronald Doe or Robbie Mannheim . A 14 year old boy was the alleged
victim of demonic possession, and the events were recorded by the attending priest,

Abstract
In this paper I will explore the subject media and the effect on today s society. The
research information was gathered from two websites. The role the media plays in
delivering the media to the public is an important fact covered in this essay. The
significance of news media on culture and society is huge and changing from day to
day. The social responsibility the news media has regarding ethical and legal
compliance online. A few of the key supporting thoughts are as follows. The different
forms of media and the various delivery methods to the public. The advantages and
disadvantages of modern delivery. The changes in ... Show more content on

The media is to entertain, but more important to inform and to avoid conflicts of
interest. News markets would love to earn the respect of their viewers. Providing
the truth and the most breaking news this improves their ratings. Once the news
media violates that trust people will find another form to get their news. The
media has a huge influence on the public opinion. The media and their owners
need to be held to high levels of accountability. They should stay in compliance
with the laws, codes, and regulations. The legal and ethical issues for the online
community are the same as if it were not online. Oftentimes it is easy to violate
these online than if gathering information from the textbook or encyclopedia. It
can very easy to post a picture and if this picture has a copyright then it would be a
violation of copyright infringement laws. Sometimes it is easy to miss this and we
often use material found on the Internet without permission. There can be legal
ramifications from this action. Technology is a part of our everyday lives and our
world. The way the news and information is reaches our homes has improved
considerably over the last 20 years. Technology is a science and offers areas of
study in regard to this science. Some advantages of the modern delivery is the
convenience of reaching many people at one time. This is helpful for many reasons a

49. Role Of Sitcoms In The 1950s
Television sitcoms of the 1950 s through the 1990 s demonstrated the values and
structure of the American family by portraying stereotypes. Since television sets
became mainstream and entered almost every American home, the content of
American sitcoms has reflected the culture of the times. Thus, as the popular
American sitcoms of the 1950 s suggest, families living in the 1950 s were very
tightly grouped and did everything together with the roles of males and females
clearly defined. In the 1950 s, women did the house cleaning and child care and men
worked, providing for the family. In the sixties, women acquired more freedom in
their lives. The 1963 Equal Pay Act and the 1964 Civil Rights Act came into effect.

In modern day, women are equal to men and feminism is decreasing. Four sitcoms,
Leave It To Beaver, What s Happening, The Wonder Years, and Malcolm In The
Middle, portrayed the relationships and values of families during different decades.
First of all, most sitcoms in the 1950 s showed families with a traditional family
structure. It was referred to as a nuclear family, two parents and their children.
Divorce was not common. In the sitcom, Leave It to Beaver about a caucasian
family in the late fifties, the father was the dominant figure of the household and
the decision maker of the family. In the 1950 s, a woman usually did not make any
important decisions and was expected to have meals ready when her husband got
home. The entire family sat down together for dinner. Manners were important.
This was shown in Leave It To Beaver when children asked politely to be excused
from the table. Respect for adults was important. Wally stated, Older people do not
need a reason to be mean . It was understood that older people deserved respect
despite their behavior. The children were portrayed as well behaved. They were
expected to tell parents everything. The show emphasized the repercussions of being
dishonest when Beaver told his teacher
50. The Importance Of Carers Instructions On Children s
Food...
Why it is important to follow carers instructions in respect of their child s food
allergies or intolerances
For some children, it is essential to monitor their diet and the food that they eat has
to be prepared and planned very carefully as they may have allergies, intolerances or
medical conditions, such as: disease or diabetes. You should take care to follow the
parents instructions relating to their child allergies or intolerances, failure to do so
could result in the child health being endangered, possibly even in death.
Allergies
Contact with certain fields can be fatal for some children with allergies. This means
that great care has to be taken and I system must be designed to vent children from
coming into contact with their allergen (for example nuts or dairy products). Where
the allergy is severe, this may affect the food that can be prepared and eating in the
setting as some children can have a reaction just from being near other children who
are eating food containing and allergen.
Systems to vent children from coming into contact with a known food allergen
include photographs and names of the children in the kitchen, only key persons
giving the child food and certain plate being used for particular children so as to
provide a visual reminder. It is also essential that children are supervised when they
are eating so that if an allergic reaction occurs emergency help can be called. Signs
of an allergic reaction include swelling of the lips your eyes, redness

In the excerpt from the novel Moon Tiger by Penelope Lively, a brother and sister
are searching for fossils as their mother watches. When the siblings begin to quarrel
over space to look for fossils, the cliff they are searching gives way and the sister,
Claudia, falls. The excerpt later ends with the children bickering with their exhausted
and embarrassed motherwho is just trying to keep her sanity. This excerpt dramatizes
the complex relationships in between the characters with changes in perspective,
dialog, and diction. In the beginning of the story, we are given Claudia s perspective
of the whole adventure. In the next part we see her brother, Gordon s perspective.
Finally, the piece ends with their mother trying to quell her arguing
52. Essay On Sea Otters
Describe the biological mechanisms through which global warming can influence the
Sea Otter (Enhydra lutris).
In today s society, global warming is a serious issue and more attention needs to be
drawn to the impacts of this issue and how we can help lessen the intensity of these
impacts, especially on organisms. These changes in global temperatures have had a
great effect on the biological mechanisms through which organisms are distributed in
their habitats and the redistribution of species can cause a change in species
interactions and result in endangerment or extinction (Hughes, 2000). This essay
will be looking at how global warming has influenced biological mechanisms of the
sea otters (Enhyrdra lutris), which affects their population and distribution of this
endangered species (IUCN Red List, 2016). The sea otters are currently considered
endangered according to the IUCN Red list due to pathogenic infections,
physiological stress caused by oil spills and predation by new species.

These biological mechanisms include the changing pathogenic distribution of Vibrio
parahaemolyticus and Toxoplasma gondii, causing more sea otters to be infected
since global warming has caused an increase of water temperature. Sea otters are
extremely vulnerable to oil spills as oil disrupts the heat insulating and buoyancy
properties of its fur, forcing sea otters to increase their metabolism which requires
more food sources. This, of course, decreases the population of this species. Due to
the changing interactions between this species and killer whales, sea otters are
being predated by killer whales as an alternative food source. The killer whales usual
prey items, which are seals and sea lions are becoming more unavailable due to the
decreasing availability of sea
53. Using Logit And Linear Regression Essay
Using Logit and Linear regression, we attempted to understand factors that influence
students to leave their college or University, their average GPA, and graduating in
four years. We tailor our study to first generation students, in relation to PoC
students. Because much of the differences in college success have been linked to
social class and economic background we have controlled for family income, as well
as race, level of cultural capital and students use of universityservices. Our analysis
of the dependent variables for student success; students decision to leave, average
GPA and four year graduation, reveal that first generation status is a significant factor
in all three. Other variables frequently emphasized in education literature on student
success and first generation status, such as cultural capital and peer support had less
of an impact than indicated in previous research. We analyze each dependent variable
separately for independent variables in Wave 2, Wave 3, and Wave 4. And then look
for relational differences in the impact of independent variables both between
dependent variables and over different waves of the study. We present findings in
which the relationship our dependent variables to independent variables are
significant to the 0.5 level of confidence. Independent variables in our study had
different effects on our dependent variables, with some positive correlations and
some negative. Finding presented below start with those affecting students
