Proof of Heaven Essay
Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon s Journey into the Afterlife
Abigail Alvarado
Rhetoric Composition English 1302
September 18, 2014
Abstract
Eben Alexander is a neurosurgeon who believed for many years that when people explained their near
death experiences it was just the hard wiring of the brain. Of course ,though, he had refined medical
training. It wasn t until Alexander had caught a rare disease which caused him to fall into a coma and
had a near death experience himself. Alexander talks about his journey towards the afterlife in his
book which leads to many questions to everyone as to whether it really happened or if it was all just a
hallucination. The paper talks about how he recounts what happened during his experience ... Show

He describes her as a beautiful girl with high cheek bones and deep blue eyes...[g]olden brown tresses
framed her lovely face (Alexander, 2012, p. 40). She was also riding on a butterfly wing, as he recalls,
and it just seems to be a way a novelist would describe an angel guiding someone lost in heaven.
There was nothing to make it sound different or stand out. It makes it hard to believe it s Alexander
trying to prove heaven is real rather than just writing a story.
Later on in the book Alexander talks about the core where he saw [b]ig, puffy, pink white [clouds] that
showed up sharply against the deep blue black sky (p. 45). Everyone who thinks of heaven, thinks of
clouds. It is not uncommon for anyone to describe heaven that way. It is very stereotypical and made it
no different that anyone else s image of heaven. A sound, huge and booming like a glorious chant,
came from above, and I wondered if the winged beings were producing it (Alexander, 2012, p. 45) is
also another stereotype of what people say you d hear when you re in heaven. Again, not enough
proof.
There was a section where he mentions how he came into contact with God and received knowledge
that was not taught but stored. It seemed that everyone who might have gone to church had heard the
knowledge of what God was giving to Alexander. Maybe if he had gone more into depth and detail to
what the knowledge he stored from his

Real Property Tax Assessment
This is the first in a series of articles written to inform the real property taxpayer how to appeal your
property tax assessment. Drawing upon my many years of experience in both the private and public
sector property tax business, I have written this article in general terms that apply to the many states
and counties in the US, and focused it on what everyone needs to know should you want to appeal
your property tax value.
Fair Market Value
All states base their assessed value on fair market value (also referred to as market value ), or a
defined percentage of fair market value (here in GA we are assessed at 40% of the fair market value
estimate). The Appraisal Institute has defined market value as:
The most probably price, as of a specific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2. Sales Comparison Approach...estimates a property s value (or some other characteristic, such as its
depreciation) by reference to comparable sales.
This approach, like the name implies, entails comparing your property to the sale of comparable
properties in your market area. Adjusting for differences (such as numbers of bathrooms) by adding
(or subtracting) the approximate value of the differences to the sale price, you can get an indication of
what your property might sell for.
3. Income Approach...uses capitalization to convert the anticipated benefits of the ownership of
property into an estimate of present value.
This approach is rarely (I m guessing never) used by taxing jurisdictions to appraise single family
residential property. Larger metropolitan counties with a lot of market data use this approach to value
commercial properties. Essentially the income approach takes the potential rental income of your
property, deducts for anticipated operating expenses, and applies a capitalization rate to the left over
net operating income (NOI). The capitalization rate is derived from market data showing what
multiple of NOI investors are paying for similar

Scarcity Of Water Essay
Leonardo da Vinci said, Water is the driving force of all nature. Most people will acknowledge this
statement because water is necessary for both life and good health. Water is an essential ingredient of
life not only for humans but also for the animals with which we share the world and the environment
that sustains our presence. This is the most pressing global issue because when water is no longer safe
to use, or is polluted, this causes problems in many other areas, such as with general health and
hygiene, child mortality, and the environmental stability for the farming and ranching industries.
According to the United Nations, forty percent of the world s population is a victim of water scarcity,
and the number is rising, which is why more recently this issue has become prominent with the media
internationally. In the end, water is how our world survives, and when its purity is in jeopardy, so is
the stability of our world. While it is easier for someone who lives in America to see the localized
water related problems in this country, such as the droughts in California and the Flint, Michigan
water quality crisis, clean water is a worldwide issue and a preventable one. Many impoverished
people must live with unclean water due to neglect of this problem by their governing political bodies.
The United Nations reports 1,000 children dying every day from diseases caused by unclean water and
sanitation issues that are avoidable with reasonable improvements. When the

The Consequences Of Harmful And Underage College Drinking
College DrinkingHarmful and underage college drinking are signifcant public health problems, and
they exact an enormous toll on the intellectual and social lives of students on campuses across the
United States. Drinking at college has become a ritual that students often see as an integral part of
their higher education experience. Many students come to college with established drinking habits,
and the college environment can exacerbate the problem. According to a national survey, almost 60
percent of college students ages 18 22 drank alcohol in the past month,1 and almost 2 out of 3 of them
engaged in binge drinking during that same timeframe.2Consequences of Harmful and Underage
College DrinkingDrinking affects college students, their families, and college communities at large.
Researchers estimate that each year:DeathAbout 1,825 college students between the ages of 18 and 24
die from alcohol related unintentional injuries, including motor vehicle crashes.3Assault About
696,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 are assaulted by another student who has been
drinking.4Sexual AssaultAbout 97,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 report experiencing
alcohol related sexual assault or date rape.4What is binge drinking? Many college alcohol problems
are related to binge drinking. Binge drinking is a pattern of drinking that brings blood alcohol
concentration (BAC) levels to 0.08 g/dL. This typically occurs after 4 drinks for women and 5 drinks
for men in about 2

Art History II

Sfakianos The piece that I chose to write about is entitled The Birth of Venus and was painted by the
French artist Nicolas Poussin. This painting was sold to Catherine the Great of Russia in 1771. It was
sold another time by the Hermitage Museum in 1932 when the Soviet government was desperate for
western currency. It was then that it was acquired for the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The painting
was made in Italy in either the year 1635 or 1636. The medium that Poussin used was oils on canvas,
and the size of the painting is roughly around 38 by 42 inches. This painting is considered to be
included the Baroque period. (Philadelphia Museum of Art) Along side of the painting on display is a

are a man and a woman farther in the background. The man is standing in the water while the woman
is sitting on what looks like a porpoise. On both sides of the center three women are two men with
wreaths on on top of their heads, and they are blowing into what looks like horns. On the right side of
the painting are three more figures. One is a woman sitting on top of a rock with a white cloth
underneath her bottom. Her back is facing towards the viewer and she seems to be looking towards the
man on the other shell. She holds a green cloth on the top of her head with her right arm while resting
on her left arm for support. There is also a tipped vase in front of the rock that is spilling water into the
ocean. To her right is a muscular man holding a woman on his back. Behind the two is an orange
yellow cloth flowing in the wind. In the front of venus is an cherub angel laying on an orange yellow
cloth with it s arms around the head of a sea creature. Above the pink cloth that Venus is holding up
are six more cherub angels. Some are dropping flowers down on the congregation and some have their
little bow and arrows out. There is a lot of clouds in the sky behind them. On the clouds to the left is a

Resurrection The Apostles
Dr. Sean McDowell is a published author and speaker who holds a PhD in Apologetics. He is well
known as an apologist and serves as Assistant Professor in the Christian Apologetics program at Biola
University, while also still teaching at the high school level. McDowell began to dig deeper into the
study of the Apostles fate after an apologetics mission trip to Berkley University. After his students
were challenged with providing proof of the Apostle s deaths, he began to seek out a comprehensive
history on these narratives, and found out that there were very little resources that sought out an
encompassing and tested historical picture of the traditional death narratives. While these stories of the
Apostle s willingness to die does not prove ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first is Peter, who is even eluded to by Christ himself in John 21:18 19. The text seems to point to
Peter s crucifixion, and aligns with the other sources that place his death in the 60 s AD. This, along
with references from early church fathers and at least ten other extra biblical sources give confidence
to Peter being martyred for the faith. The second discussed is Paul, and scripture can again be
referenced in his path to martyrdom. II Timothy 4:6 7 speaks of Paul already being poured out, and
would be understood by its readers. There are also references by early church fathers, Clement,
Ignatius, and Polycarp. James the brother of Jesus has strong and early extrabiblical accounts of his
martyrdom, including Gnostic sources and references from Josephus. James son of Zebedee is also a
reliable example, with outside references, and the narrative itself is found in Acts 12, describing his
death by Herod s order. McDowell gives us two other Apostles whose martyrdom he would not place
as solid in regards to historical evidence, but reasonably believed. The first is Thomas, whose records
within the eastern scholars are numerous, but dated later. The St. Thomas Christians of southern India
hold strong to the story that he was martyred by being speared to death. Andrew is another, whose
historical accounts also show up later, around the 2nd century. While there are ancient

There are many opportunities McBride Financial can take advantage of by going public through an
initial public offering. By going public through an IPO, McBride Financial will have the opportunity
to increase capital that can be capitalized in the company. Also, the owners of McBride Financial will
have the opportunity to increase liquidity of their share holdings. In addition, McBride Financial will
have the opportunity to have future entrance to the public capital market. Finally, McBride Financial
will have the opportunity to have an elevated profile than their private competition, which makes it
simpler to create transactions and entice merchants (Keown, Martin, Petty, Scott, 2005).
There are also many opportunities McBride Financial can take advantage of by acquiring another
organization in the same industry. McBride Financial will have the opportunity to supply their services
more resourcefully by joining efforts. In addition, McBride Financial will have the opportunity to
become more lucrative by changing management (Answers.com, 2011).

The 1968 Black Power Rebellion
This year s topic for NHD was Leadership and Legacy, and the topic I chose was the 1968 Black
Power Salute. The Black Power Rebellion has had an impact on other athletes and their civil
disobedience actions. My NHD topic relates to Leadership and Legacy because the black power
rebellion gave hope to all of the African Americans that one day they could all be equal. The Legacy
part of the topic comes from their mark that they left from holding up the black power sign during the
1968 National Anthem. The three superstar athlete s motive for doing such an action was they wanted
to show that no matter your race you are able to have equal rights. The glove they wore on their hand
was black, this also known as The Black Power Sign. Peter Norman

Apple Computer redefined the portable digital music player market with its launch of the iPod digital
music player. This began in January of 2001, when it introduced its jukebox software called iTunes.
This software enabled Macintosh users to import songs from audio CD s converting them to MP3
format and storing them on the computer s hard drive. It later launched the iPod digital music player in
October of 2001. The iPod was designed to synch to songs and playlists from iTunes via a Firewire
cable connection. Once music was downloaded, the iPod provided for 10 hours of continuous play
from its rechargeable lithium polymer battery. Media is stored on iPod s internal hard disk (Day,
2005).
The iPod has evolved with subsequent product generations so that it could be used by both Windows
and Macintosh users with iTunes software being made available for each operating system. The iPod
features the company s patent pending, Click Wheel, which combines a touch sensitive wheel with
five push buttons for one handed navigation. Apple touts this feature as one of the industry s first
(Day, 2005).
In October 2005, Apple introduced the new iPod containing a 2.5 inch color screen that enables it to
display album artwork and photos, and play video including music videos, video podcasts, home
movies, short films and television shows. The iPod lineup now includes a 30GB model holding up to

Conductive Hearing Loss In The US
Introduction In the United States, about 48 million people or 20 percent of the population is affected
by hearing loss (Hearing Loss Association of America). According to Cole and Flexer (2008), Hearing
loss is the most common birth defect (p. xi). Approximately 16,000 to 18,000 infants and young
children are diagnosed with hearing loss every year. (Cole Flexer, 2008).
Hearing loss can be classified in three ways based on type: conductive, sensorineural, and mixed.
Conductive hearing loss is when sound is not transmitted from the outer ear to the middle ear in an
effective manner. Examples of a conductive hearing loss include: otitis media, perforation of the
tympanic membrane, impacted cerumen, benign growths, foreign objects, or a maldeveloped or absent
outer ear or middle ear structure. Most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can be described as unilateral meaning only one ear is affected or bilateral meaning both ears are
affected. Hearing loss can also be classified as symmetrical or asymmetrical. Symmetrical means that
both ears are affected equally while asymmetrical means that the ears are unequal in their level of
hearing loss. Hearing loss can also be broken down into sudden and progressive onset. Hearing loss
can occur over a short period or it can worsen over time. Fluctuating hearing loss changes over time,
and stable hearing loss remains constant. Hearing loss is characterized by degree of severity based on
decibel loss (American Speech Hearing Association). Normal hearing has a decibel loss of 10 to 15.
Slight hearing loss has a decibel loss of 16 to 25. Mild hearing loss has a decibel loss of 26 to 40.
Moderate hearing loss has a decibel loss of 41 to 55. Moderately severe hearing loss has a decibel loss
of 56 to 70. Severe hearing loss has a decibel loss of 71 to 90. Profound hearing loss has a decibel loss
of 90 or greater (Clark,

Jason Reid Meaning
In this essay I m going to be writing about the variations, patterns and wishes recipe of The Three and
Many Wishes of Jason Reid I will also be comparing The Three And Many Wishes Of Jason Reid to
The Old Woman Who Lived In A Vinegar Bottle and The Fisherman And His Wife . The book that we
read is called The Three and Many Wishes of Jason Reid and in this book is an eleven year old
elementary school kid who got granted three wishes from Quicksilver, The Elster Of The Third Order .
So as Jason was wishing for his three wishes, he was being greedy and wished for three more wishes
and Elster Of The Third Order I think there s a lot more variations than pattern as Jason is different
and smarter than all the other characters in these stories,he also does not wish dumb wishes and is not

T-Test Paper
I have chosen to report to 4 significant figures for this assignment as going to two decimal places
would have disrupted values such as the p value for the t test (0.0002720).
TWO SAMPLE (UNPAIRED) T TEST WITH UNEQUAL VARIANCES ANALYSIS
The null hypothesis for this experiment was; H0: μ1=μ2. Therefore the alternate hypothesis was; H1:
μ1≠ μ2.
The test used to determine if we can fail to reject the null hypothesis is a two sample (unpaired) t test
with unequal variances. A two sample test was chosen as it compares two independent samples. In this
experiment we are using two samples from two different products, one is a genuine Viagra and one is
an intercepted product of undetermined origin.
There are two types of t tests; one and two tailed. One tailed tests are used for experiments where the
question being asked is, is one value less than or greater than another. A two tailed test is suited to
analyse the null hypothesis as it is stating that the genuine product dissolves equally as much as the
intercepted Viagra.
Genuine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the P value from the two tail test is 0.0002720 this means the data is statistically significant and
we are not incorrectly rejecting a true null hypothesis.

results are statistically significant.

How The Rate Of Reaction When Reacting With Magnesium...
Reaction Rate Lab;
Concentration
(Mg + 2HCl H2+ MgCl2)
Purpose:
How do different concentrations of Hydrochloric Acid (0.1 M, 0.5 M, 1.0 M, 2.0 M) affect the rate of
reaction when reacting with Magnesium ribbon strips?
Hypothesis:
If the hydrochloric acid has a greater concentration (2.0 M), there will be a greater reaction rate than
with a lower concentration (1.0 M, 0.5 M, 0.1 M). This is because if there is a greater concentration,
the chance of the reactants colliding is greater, thus leading to a faster reaction and therefore a faster
reaction rate. (Clark, Jim)
Variables Independent: Concentration of the Hydrochloric Acid (0.1 M, 0.5 M, 1.0 M, 2.0 M)
Dependent: Rate of reaction; amount of time needed to dissolve the Magnesium ribbon. (Time)
Control Variable How it will be controlled
Quantity All experiments will have the same quantity of reactants
Timer All experiments will be timed with the same timer
Environment All experiments will be held in the same room
Size of container All experiments will take place in the same sized container

Political Structure Of Persepolis
The old Persian city of Persepolis is located in the Fars province of modern day Iran. Persian had a
very diverse number of land formations, ranging from plateaus, rainforests, plains, deserts, and
mountain ranges which each hold a unique balance of flora and fauna, and a climate that measures
from hot and dry to moist and tropical. In a way, Persepolis depended on its surrounding ecosystems
to help support its growth and prosperity. It was located near a dry land called the Marvdasht Plain and
also close to the moist peaks of the Zagros Mountains, and it s a piece of the Kur River Basin. Even
the climate of the areas near Persepolis affected its business. For example, during the Iranian winter,
the landscape would become murky and would be unable to navigate through. However, during the
spring and summer seasons, the areas surrounding Persepolis would be clear and crossable, allowing
the city to proceed in its everyday activity. Through vigorous research by archaeologists, it has been
revealed that Darius I was responsible for a great amount of structures and periods of construction of
Persepolis. In the time period that Darius I was working on Persepolis was in the years 518 490 B.C.

terrace was built, with the Apadana audience hall, and finally including the Treasury building

Critical thinking is a part of everyday life and does not necessarily mean making a decision in a high

concept and another in order to anticipate what the outcome may be. Or, it may be detecting faulty
reasoning that is purported in a television commercial. It entails effective ... Show more content on

In order to distinguish between the two, inference and assumption, real life examples can help provide
a better understanding. An assumption that is centered off a previous experience can lead to making an
inference based on that assumption (Elder Paul, 2002). For example, if you drive your car around a
particular blind corner daily and see children in a yard, playing near the road, you could assume that
this corner is dangerous. On a subsequent day, you may see an accident at this same corner and infer
that a child was involved in the accident. Depending on how sound our belief is, the assumption or
inference may or may not be accurate. Running head: INTERPRETATION OF INFERENCES AND

Assumptions can be learning opportunities, especially when the outcome is different than expected.
Recently, I assumed that an employee who was given an opportunity to participate in a new procedure

How People Make Economic Decisions Paper

Making Economic Decisions Economic decisions made by individuals can affect the economy. The
principles of individual decision making include people being rational, economic incentives, and
optimal decisions made at the margin. Trading the three economic systems are market economy,
centrally planned economy, and mixed economy. Each contains their own attributes on how they
contribute to an economy. The current economic system in the United States is a mixed economy.

Opportunity cost is the highest valued alternative that must be given up to engage in an activity
(Hubbard, amp; O Brien, 2010). In some respect, it is an individual s marginal cost versus marginal
benefit. Questions such as what is to be produced, how will it be produced, who is receiving the goods
need to be answered.
Types of Economies These questions are answered by different kind of economies. The general
population drives market economies. Goods and services are in supply as much as they are in demand
unless there is some sort of constraint. Government drives centrally planned economies as they dictate
how much of a product and service are produced. These economies are usually run by dictatorships or
communism. Last, there is mixed economy. The United States is a mixed economy as the general
population runs the market demand and supply. However, the government regulates some products
and goods. Government intervention has occurred recently after the British Petroleum oilrig exploded
off the shore of Louisiana. President Obama placed a ban on any further offshore drilling sites close to
the coast. We ve placed a six month moratorium on drilling new deepwater oil and gas wells in the
Outer Continental Shelf (Obama, 2010). This may raise costs in oil products in the future because of a
shorter supply.
Summary
Economic decisions come with an opportunity cost. Individuals need

A child might know the world apple , but haven t seen a real apple yet. (Etc.edu.cn, Massey.ac.nz,
2017). But, the child at the preoperational stage still learns from concrete evidence while adults learn
in abstract way. Meanwhile, here are a few limitations to the preoperational stage. To start with, child
in preoperational stage may lack the concept of conversation. For instance, a child is given two rows
of apples that have the same number of apple. But, one of the rows is longer than the other one
without changing the number of apple. Child at the preoperational stage states that rows lengths are
not same. Because, the look of the objects gave the wrong impression about them to the child. Mostly,
children s decision making depends on their perception (Etc.edu.cn,2017). Saul Mcleod , (2014),

simultaneously in all subject areas. Children do understand the conservation of numbers often at age
of 5 6 and do understand conservation of substance. Conservation is something that stays the in terms
of quantity even when the appearance changes. In technical words, conservation helps to understand
redistributing materials that doesn t have impact on its mass, volume or number (Saul Mcleod , 2014).

The Importance Of The American Flag In Schools
The American flag is the one object that is present in every room in almost every school across the
country. This flag is present in almost every corner of the United States, but in schools it serves the
purpose of striking patriotism into the students. The flag is a prominent object in every class room, it
takes up a surprising amount of space and is large enough to be able to easily recognize it from the
outer edges of the room itself. The flag is a symbol of the nation, across the world it is a symbol of
freedom and progress. The primary purpose of the flag is to incite a feeling of patriotism, make a
viewer feel proud to be part of the United States. It is necessary for the country to maintain a sort of

Effects Of Salt Water And Water On Ice
Salt water and water effect ice in different ways. Water melts ice, but salt water makes ice melt faster.
The ice cube, which was solid, turned into water because the air temperature is warmer than the ice.
This means that the ice particles gather kinetic energy from the warmer air. The ice particles have
enough energy to break apart (melt)into smaller particle arrangements. The ice cube without salt melts
because the air around is warmer than 32 degrees F, but a salted cube melts faster because when you
add salt it dissolves into the water of the ice cube. Salt water freezes at a lower temperature than the
32 degrees F at which fresh water freezes. This makes the ice with salt on it melt faster. A similar topic

Ginger And The Natural Morning Sickness Remedies
Ginger And The Natural Morning Sickness Remedies
One of the most amazing fact about this herb is its power for treating morning sickness symptoms.
Several studies determined that ginger is equally as effective as vitamin B6 in treating vomiting and
nausea of pregnancy.
Because it s not advisable for your developing baby to be exposed to any drug, ginger being a herb
can be one of many safest cures for morning sickness.
Ginger tea has long been utilized for treating morning sickness in several countries. This beverage is
often made by slicing or grating moderate volume of peeled ginger roots poured with very hot water
and a few drops of honey and lemon to add flavor. In some areas of Asia, the tea is made by boiling
peeled, sliced ginger and in most cases added with brown sugar and lemon or sliced orange to
incorporate flavor.
In many studies, ginger has been verified to be more therapeutic than simply a placebo for morning
sickness and motion sickness. When other home treatments don t appear to work for you, try the
ginger tea, it s possibly all you need to get rid of the woes of morning sickness.
Vomiting and nausea could be the most terrible part of pregnancy. Even so, it can be controlled when

High School Students Drop Out
In the United States alone, 1.2 millions high school students drop out each year. The challenges of
dropping out can be detrimental to a teens future. The long term effects can impact the way they live
and and succeed. Thankfully, a numerous amount of suggestions have been created to make student s
lives easier. Dropping out is caused by a wide variety of reasons, and many different actions have been
taken to improve the overall rates.
Although an abundant number of students believe staying in school is prevalent, there are still many
who drop out for various reasons. According to Why Students Drop Out, The Economical Pressures
That Make Leaving School Unavoidable , Roughly 30 percent of students who drop out of school
between the ages of 16 and 18 are working in a variety of jobs, according to a new study by the Urban
Institute, a nonprofit research group based in Washington, D.C (Rosales, 1). This is particularly
important because people often assume that students who drop out do it out of lack of integrity. This
proves that not all students drop out for the wrong reasons. For instance, some students who drop out
due to working needs many want to stay in school to fulfil their education, but are unable to because
of personal conflicts. Raising a child at such a young age can play a major role in someone s choice,

Cell Division Research Paper
Cells as we learn are capable of reproduction. Cell division according to the book is a process that
produces genetically identical daughter cells. Some living organisms are able to reproduce a sexually.
In this process Chromosomes are duplicated and then distributed during the process of mitosis. The
offspring are exactly the same as the parent as well as each other. Certain organisms such as humans
and animals reproduce sexually by the bond of an egg cell from a female and a sperm cell from a
male. These organisms carry out meiosis. Genes in a eukaryotic species are grouped up together in
chromosomes found in the nucleus, each of the chromosomes contain one long strand of DNA. Before
cells begin to divide the chromosomes duplicate making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Depending on how the chromosomes react during the process of meiosis determines the inheritance
patterns. Certain kinds of genes are known to be linked and come together as a pair on the same
chromosome. The process of crossing over can separate these linked genes and produces gametes with
recombinant chromosomes and creates offspring with recombinant phenotypes.
Whether we are born males or females is determined by the X and the Y chromosomes. A person who
gets two X chromosomes forms as a female while a person who gets both an X and a Y forms as a
male. So I have both an X and a Y chromosome while my three sisters all have two X chromosomes.
Some human disorders are sex linked. Hemophilia and colorblindness are due to recessive alleles. A
male who receives a recessive allele from his mother will have the disorder however for a female to
have the disorder both the mother and father must pass on the recessive allele.
In conclusion cells are super complicated and undergo many processes I myself will never truly
understand. However after studying the material I am able to understand that what I perceived as
simple things in life actually occur because of many complex things going on inside of our

Macbeth And Greed
Greed s Manifestation and Destruction of Characters within British Literature The concept of greed
shows itself as the root of the many immoral acts committed in by various roles. These acts in which
was caused by greed, as the Pardoner, from The Canterbury Tales, defines greed s purpose. This
includes how greed pulls them to corruption such for the characters from The Importance of Being
Earnest. Moreover, Judas s betrayal and Macbeth s collapse demonstrate what greed can produce as a
result: destruction and degeneration. Although the characters differ, their obsessions with their
immoral acts possess similar desires. By condemning and demoralizing the characters with many

Greed concerns not with wealth only, but also people s obsession with it. For example, the pardoner
acts as if he would sin for it: I mean to have money, wool, and cheese and wheat [...] given me by the
poorest lad (244). In this quote, the pardoner confesses that in order for him to be wealthy and fed, he
would even seize it from one who has the least Chaucer also portrays his egotistical obsession with
wealth, since he would even give up his conscience. Chaucer s works not only explains the greed s
effect but also in the bible. Judas, one of the twelve apostles had asked what he would get for
delivering him to the priests. So the priests paid him thirty pieces of silver And from that time he
sought opportunity to betray him (Mathews26: 15 16). In this scene, Judas received money for the
prize of Jesus; and then he insensitively invests in betraying Jesus for the greed of wealth. Although he
had other reasons to dislike Jesus, the fact that the silver pieces had made him forsake Jesus, it proves
his guilt for having the greed for wealth. This forced both the Pardoner and Judas to lose empathy for
people, as they only care for themselves and materials. It also drives them into addiction and a
destruction of one s mental health, as Judas eventually hangs himself. Furthermore, greed is a force
that allows all types of sins to occur in all

Voter Turnout In a democracy citizens are permitted to have a significant amount of influence on
government through the election of government officials. This is known as Direct Democracy, which
means that the citizens play a significant role on the laws and policies of the land. Although the liberty

Those who campaign have a hard time reaching out to the young community. Most college students do
not own a television set, therefore are not well aware of current political affairs. In part many young
Americans feel that their vote does not matter, or that whatever they must vote for doesn t interest or
affect them in any way. Older age groups that vote tend to be more educated on politics, because they
tend to be much better educated. Ones views on politics can vary depending on the type of
environment you grew up in. The agents of socialization in one s life play a big role on determining
how one feels towards politics. Parental views on politics influence their children s future views on
politics greatly. Ethnicity and socio economic status have a huge impact on the voter turnout. Political
knowledge and perception is no different than the area you live in or the quality of food you eat, it s all
based on wealth and social status. Those who make enough money to barely survive tend to have little
to no knowledge on politics. These groups tend to be minority groups. The vast majority of groups
that tend to vote are strictly but not definitively well educated white families. Although this is not
always the case, certain ethnic groups and minority groups vote when they have interest in what they
are voting for. For example, in the 2012 election with Obama, for the first time ever the overall black

The Characters of Antigone and Creon in Antigone by Sophocles
The Characters of Antigone and Creon in Antigone by Sophocles
Antigone is story of divine retribution and human imperfectness. In this tragedy a powerful king,
Creon is brought down by the Gods because of his contempt against their divine laws and true justice
is shown to triumph at the end. Creon makes the mistake of putting his personal views over and above
the divine laws and fails in the eyes of the Gods. He makes the mistake of testing the Gods power and
the remaining story is basically the degeneration of Creon. After the crime of Antigone, Creon is

Both are to some extent right in their thinking but in the end both are shown to be mere humans in the
eyes of God and fail to rise beyond their puny existence.
At the beginning of the play, Thebes has fought back an armed attack and the brothers, Eteocles and
Polynices have died ;Creon crowns himself the king and issues edicts to proclaim Eteocles a hero to
be buried with full military honours and decrees that the body of the traitor, Polynices be refused
burial and left to rot. He issues warns that any person disobeying his edicts will be put to death.
However, his edicts clash with the divine laws which explicitly state that every dead body deserves a
burial, even that of a traitor. Creon thus starts the chain of his own destruction. He considers himself to
be paramount in his ideals and expects everyone to obey his edicts without question. And for this, he
is willing to risk everything he has : his prestige, his son, throne and his own life at the altar of his
pride. And in the end, he loses.
The Gods however give a number of chances to Creon to remedy his folly of judgement but he misses
every one of them. When Creon gets the news of Polynices burial he hastily judges that the sentry or
the sentries have been bribed and is on the verge of having the latter tortured or even killed. In his
illogical state of mind he accuses the Chorus of lunacy and illogical behaviour

Happy New Year Essay
Happy New Year! May you have real peace of mind, lasting joy and steadfast love of family and
friends the whole year through and many more years to come!
Many people like to count down to welcome the New Year, but I have stopped attending countdown
parties for years and always wonder why people love the countdown. Maybe it is the euphoria that
drinks and partying bring; maybe it is the kindred spirits, goodwill and companionship; maybe it is the
opportunity to start afresh and set goals not attained in the previous years. Whatever the reason, the
New Year seems to be a time that gives us high hopes and aspirations, a time to ponder a time to
endeavour.
It seems ironic, however, that we never want to count down the days of our life. Many of us live as if
we will live forever whereas the harsh reality is that most of us are going to expire by 100 years,

Power And Gender In Shakespeare s Play Much Ado About...

William Shakespeare: Much Ado about Nothing
What does the play seem to say about power and gender? Compare and contrast at least four
characters, using specific examples to support your answer. William Shakespeare s play Much Ado
about Nothing is one of his many creations during the Renaissance and Elizabethan Era. This is one of
Shakespeare s most famous play that is still performed to this day. I was able to witness students from
The University of North Carolina School of the Arts production perform this play. Shakespeare
exposes the dark and ugly truth about gender inequality that occurred during the Elizabethan Era. In
the Messina society, the men were superior to women, and the women to feel inferiors to the men.
However, in this play, Beatrice is seen as an exception as she says Oh that I were a man (The
University of North Carolina School of the Arts production). For women, honor was based on virginal
chastity, while men were honored based on their social rank and camaraderie. Shakespeare portrays
Hero as the ideal women during the Renaissance period by depicting her as quiet, polite and
respectful. She follows the rules of the patriarchal society, like submitting to her father s decisions and
accepting her father s demand that she should say yes to Don Pedro s marriage proposal. She offers no
objection to the marriage proposal even though it was from Claudio instead of Don Pedro. Hero will

Does Morley Promote Laziness
Being lazy tends to have a negative connotation, but Morley takes a different stance and challenges his
readers to uphold laziness as one of the true means to become happy. Morley is similar to a salesman,
as he promotes his product, laziness, in hopes of gaining the attention and support of others. Like
many salesmen, Morley has a catch. By concealing his satirical viewpoint, he is able to distract his
audience and continue to promote laziness undetected. Masking this satire, Morley diverts the
attention of his audience by incorporating model figures and reinterpreting conventional knowledge to
promote laziness. Morley supports his claims under a foundation of satire and exaggeration. At first
glance, Morley s whole essay may seem conceivable. Strange, but conceivable. His opening paragraph
describes how he himself is a lazy individual and using this observation, presents the rest of his essay
in the same sluggish manner. He insists that, he intended to write an essay on laziness, but was too
indolent to do so. The sort of thing we had in mind to write would have been exceedingly persuasive.
We intended to discourse a little in favour of a greater appreciation of Indolence as a benign factor in
human affairs. Morley can be seen as a victim of the very thing he is presenting to his audience. He

Biblical Imagery in the Story of Rapunzel
Ostensibly, the story of Rapunzel is the tale of a young girl, locked up in a tower by a wicked witch,
the real concern of the story, however, being lust and the dangers it represents to girls as they enter the
rites of passage of puberty. Symbolism pervades the story of Rapunzel , as in all fairy tales, giving rise
to diverse interpretations. While a great deal of the symbolism is commonly found in fairy tales, the

would most likely be familiar. In the final version of Rapunzel, the Grimms add a moral message,

Within the collection of stories as a whole, the brothers took pains to delete every phrase unsuitable
for children...hoping that their collection could serve as a manual of manners (Tatar 19). Most
significantly, the Grimms eliminated erotic and sexual elements...added numerous Christian
expressions and references, [and] emphasized specific role models for male and female protagonists
according to the dominant patriarchal code of that time (Zipes, Dreams 74).
Rapunzel itself is the classic story of a mother s attempt to protect her young daughter from the
dangers she must face in order to successfully navigate the rites of passage of puberty. The Grimms
version of Rapunzel also presents a strong moral message to young women in order to maintain the
patriarchal nature and moral code of 19th century Germany. The question which most Grimms tales
ask is: how can one learn what must one do to use one s powers rightly in order to be accepted in
society or recreate society in keeping with the norms of the status quo? (Zipes, Fairy 57). The Grimms
story of Rapunzel is no different, answering this question by looking to, among other sources, the
Bible.

wished in vain for a child (Hallett 67). Anyone familiar

specifically on the influence of VLCKD on sports performance have been published, and with
conflicting results: showing benefits [18,19], no effect [20,21] or impairment [22,23].
The present study set out to investigate if a VLCKD could be useful for athletes, especially for those
engaged in sports involving weight categories where weight loss without negative changes in the body
composition (i.e. loss of muscle mass) and performance is often needed.
To the best of our knowledge no previous study has

  • 2. Proof of Heaven Essay Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon s Journey into the Afterlife Abigail Alvarado Rhetoric Composition English 1302 September 18, 2014 Abstract Eben Alexander is a neurosurgeon who believed for many years that when people explained their near death experiences it was just the hard wiring of the brain. Of course ,though, he had refined medical training. It wasn t until Alexander had caught a rare disease which caused him to fall into a coma and had a near death experience himself. Alexander talks about his journey towards the afterlife in his book which leads to many questions to everyone as to whether it really happened or if it was all just a hallucination. The paper talks about how he recounts what happened during his experience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He describes her as a beautiful girl with high cheek bones and deep blue eyes...[g]olden brown tresses framed her lovely face (Alexander, 2012, p. 40). She was also riding on a butterfly wing, as he recalls, and it just seems to be a way a novelist would describe an angel guiding someone lost in heaven. There was nothing to make it sound different or stand out. It makes it hard to believe it s Alexander trying to prove heaven is real rather than just writing a story. Later on in the book Alexander talks about the core where he saw [b]ig, puffy, pink white [clouds] that showed up sharply against the deep blue black sky (p. 45). Everyone who thinks of heaven, thinks of clouds. It is not uncommon for anyone to describe heaven that way. It is very stereotypical and made it no different that anyone else s image of heaven. A sound, huge and booming like a glorious chant, came from above, and I wondered if the winged beings were producing it (Alexander, 2012, p. 45) is also another stereotype of what people say you d hear when you re in heaven. Again, not enough proof. There was a section where he mentions how he came into contact with God and received knowledge that was not taught but stored. It seemed that everyone who might have gone to church had heard the knowledge of what God was giving to Alexander. Maybe if he had gone more into depth and detail to what the knowledge he stored from his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Real Property Tax Assessment This is the first in a series of articles written to inform the real property taxpayer how to appeal your property tax assessment. Drawing upon my many years of experience in both the private and public sector property tax business, I have written this article in general terms that apply to the many states and counties in the US, and focused it on what everyone needs to know should you want to appeal your property tax value. Fair Market Value All states base their assessed value on fair market value (also referred to as market value ), or a defined percentage of fair market value (here in GA we are assessed at 40% of the fair market value estimate). The Appraisal Institute has defined market value as: The most probably price, as of a specific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2. Sales Comparison Approach...estimates a property s value (or some other characteristic, such as its depreciation) by reference to comparable sales. This approach, like the name implies, entails comparing your property to the sale of comparable properties in your market area. Adjusting for differences (such as numbers of bathrooms) by adding (or subtracting) the approximate value of the differences to the sale price, you can get an indication of what your property might sell for. 3. Income Approach...uses capitalization to convert the anticipated benefits of the ownership of property into an estimate of present value. This approach is rarely (I m guessing never) used by taxing jurisdictions to appraise single family residential property. Larger metropolitan counties with a lot of market data use this approach to value commercial properties. Essentially the income approach takes the potential rental income of your property, deducts for anticipated operating expenses, and applies a capitalization rate to the left over net operating income (NOI). The capitalization rate is derived from market data showing what multiple of NOI investors are paying for similar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Scarcity Of Water Essay Leonardo da Vinci said, Water is the driving force of all nature. Most people will acknowledge this statement because water is necessary for both life and good health. Water is an essential ingredient of life not only for humans but also for the animals with which we share the world and the environment that sustains our presence. This is the most pressing global issue because when water is no longer safe to use, or is polluted, this causes problems in many other areas, such as with general health and hygiene, child mortality, and the environmental stability for the farming and ranching industries. According to the United Nations, forty percent of the world s population is a victim of water scarcity, and the number is rising, which is why more recently this issue has become prominent with the media internationally. In the end, water is how our world survives, and when its purity is in jeopardy, so is the stability of our world. While it is easier for someone who lives in America to see the localized water related problems in this country, such as the droughts in California and the Flint, Michigan water quality crisis, clean water is a worldwide issue and a preventable one. Many impoverished people must live with unclean water due to neglect of this problem by their governing political bodies. The United Nations reports 1,000 children dying every day from diseases caused by unclean water and sanitation issues that are avoidable with reasonable improvements. When the ... The Consequences Of Harmful And Underage College Drinking College DrinkingHarmful and underage college drinking are signifcant public health problems, and they exact an enormous toll on the intellectual and social lives of students on campuses across the United States. Drinking at college has become a ritual that students often see as an integral part of their higher education experience. The Birth of Venus Anaylsis Essay Ciera Callahan Art History II 10 20 13 Sfakianos The piece that I chose to write about is entitled The Birth of Venus and was painted by the French artist Nicolas Poussin. This painting was sold to Catherine the Great of Russia in 1771. It was sold another time by the Hermitage Museum in 1932 when the Soviet government was desperate for western currency. It was then that it was acquired for the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The painting was made in Italy in either the year 1635 or 1636. The medium that Poussin used was oils on canvas, and the size of the painting is roughly around 38 by 42 inches. This painting is considered to be included the Baroque period. • 7. Resurrection The Apostles Dr. Sean McDowell is a published author and speaker who holds a PhD in Apologetics. He is well known as an apologist and serves as Assistant Professor in the Christian Apologetics program at Biola University, while also still teaching at the high school level. McDowell began to dig deeper into the study of the Apostles fate after an apologetics mission trip to Berkley University. After his students were challenged with providing proof of the Apostle s deaths, he began to seek out a comprehensive history on these narratives, and found out that there were very little resources that sought out an encompassing and tested historical picture of the traditional death narratives. The text seems to point to Peter s crucifixion, and aligns with the other sources that place his death in the 60 s AD. This, along with references from early church fathers and at least ten other extra biblical sources give confidence to Peter being martyred for the faith. The second discussed is Paul, and scripture can again be referenced in his path to martyrdom. II Timothy 4:6 7 speaks of Paul already being poured out, and would be understood by its readers. There are also references by early church fathers, Clement, Ignatius, and Polycarp. James the brother of Jesus has strong and early extrabiblical accounts of his martyrdom, including Gnostic sources and references from Josephus. James son of Zebedee is also a reliable example, with outside references, and the narrative itself is found in Acts 12, describing his death by Herod s order. McDowell gives us two other Apostles whose martyrdom he would not place as solid in regards to historical evidence, but reasonably believed. The first is Thomas, whose records within the eastern scholars are numerous, but dated later. The St. Thomas Christians of southern India hold strong to the story that he was martyred by being speared to death. Andrew is another, whose historical accounts also show up later, around the 2nd century. While there are ancient ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Conductive Hearing Loss In The US Introduction In the United States, about 48 million people or 20 percent of the population is affected by hearing loss (Hearing Loss Association of America). According to Cole and Flexer (2008), Hearing loss is the most common birth defect (p. xi). Approximately 16,000 to 18,000 infants and young children are diagnosed with hearing loss every year. (Cole Flexer, 2008). Hearing loss can be classified in three ways based on type: conductive, sensorineural, and mixed. Conductive hearing loss is when sound is not transmitted from the outer ear to the middle ear in an effective manner. Examples of a conductive hearing loss include: otitis media, perforation of the tympanic membrane, impacted cerumen, benign growths, foreign objects, or a maldeveloped or absent outer ear or middle ear structure. Hearing loss can also be classified as symmetrical or asymmetrical. Symmetrical means that both ears are affected equally while asymmetrical means that the ears are unequal in their level of hearing loss. Hearing loss can also be broken down into sudden and progressive onset. Hearing loss can occur over a short period or it can worsen over time. Fluctuating hearing loss changes over time, and stable hearing loss remains constant. Hearing loss is characterized by degree of severity based on decibel loss (American Speech Hearing Association). Normal hearing has a decibel loss of 10 to 15. Slight hearing loss has a decibel loss of 16 to 25. Mild hearing loss has a decibel loss of 26 to 40. Moderate hearing loss has a decibel loss of 41 to 55. Moderately severe hearing loss has a decibel loss of 56 to 70. Severe hearing loss has a decibel loss of 71 to 90. In this experiment we are using two samples from two different products, one is a genuine Viagra and one is an intercepted product of undetermined origin. There are two types of t tests; one and two tailed. One tailed tests are used for experiments where the question being asked is, is one value less than or greater than another. Reaction Rate Lab; Concentration (Mg + 2HCl H2+ MgCl2) Purpose: How do different concentrations of Hydrochloric Acid (0.1 M, 0.5 M, 1.0 M, 2.0 M) affect the rate of reaction when reacting with Magnesium ribbon strips? Hypothesis: If the hydrochloric acid has a greater concentration (2.0 M), there will be a greater reaction rate than with a lower concentration (1.0 M, 0.5 M, 0.1 M). This is because if there is a greater concentration, the chance of the reactants colliding is greater, thus leading to a faster reaction and therefore a faster reaction rate. Persian had a very diverse number of land formations, ranging from plateaus, rainforests, plains, deserts, and mountain ranges which each hold a unique balance of flora and fauna, and a climate that measures from hot and dry to moist and tropical. In a way, Persepolis depended on its surrounding ecosystems to help support its growth and prosperity. It was located near a dry land called the Marvdasht Plain and also close to the moist peaks of the Zagros Mountains, and it s a piece of the Kur River Basin. Even the climate of the areas near Persepolis affected its business. For example, during the Iranian winter, the landscape would become murky and would be unable to navigate through. However, during the spring and summer seasons, the areas surrounding Persepolis would be clear and crossable, allowing the city to proceed in its everyday activity. In order to distinguish between the two, inference and assumption, real life examples can help provide a better understanding. An assumption that is centered off a previous experience can lead to making an inference based on that assumption (Elder Paul, 2002). For example, if you drive your car around a particular blind corner daily and see children in a yard, playing near the road, you could assume that this corner is dangerous. On a subsequent day, you may see an accident at this same corner and infer that a child was involved in the accident. Depending on how sound our belief is, the assumption or inference may or may not be accurate. To start with, child in preoperational stage may lack the concept of conversation. For instance, a child is given two rows of apples that have the same number of apple. But, one of the rows is longer than the other one without changing the number of apple. Child at the preoperational stage states that rows lengths are not same. The ice cube, which was solid, turned into water because the air temperature is warmer than the ice. This means that the ice particles gather kinetic energy from the warmer air. The ice particles have enough energy to break apart (melt)into smaller particle arrangements. The ice cube without salt melts because the air around is warmer than 32 degrees F, but a salted cube melts faster because when you add salt it dissolves into the water of the ice cube.
