The Juan De Fuca Plate
This is a subduction in the northern part of the west side of the North American plate at the Cascadia
subduction zone. It goes from the top of California to the bottom of Canada around Vancouver Island.
There have been thoughts of a megathrust earthquake since the mega quake in Japan in 2011. As
mentioned earlier, the Juan de Fuca plate is being pushed under the North American along the
Cascadia fault. The theory is, when big parts of the plates lock, the stress is gathered until it breaks
and a major earthquake could happen. The Juan de Fuca plate is sub ducting beneath the North
American plate. This area is known as the Cascadia subduction zone.
There is a type of earthquake that happens so slowly that it can t be felt. Every 12 to 15

Utilitarianism In Chile
In the beginning the nomadic Araucanos had control over south Chile, and Incans had control over the
north. The capital of Chile is Santiago, and was founded in 1541 by Pedro DeVildivia. Chile became
independent from Spain in 1818 when Bernado O Higgins and Jose DeSan Martin where in power.
The dictator at that time was Bernado O Higgins, and he laid down the foundation of the modern state
with a two party system and centralized government. To extend the Chilean territory the dictator
Diego Portales fought in a war with Peru from 1836 to 1839, three years long. They adopted a new
constitution in 1925. In 1970 they had their first president in a non Communist country who was
Salvador Allende. Chile has a republic government. In the earliest ... Show more content on

Keeping Baseball a Constant Essay
Keeping Baseball a Constant
Movies are an integral part of American life. They make us laugh and in a blink of an eye make us cry.
But above all, movies tell a story, a story about not merely the characters in the flick, but about each
and every one of us in the audience. No matter what the plot, purpose or theme of the movie, there isn
t a single person who can honestly say that they can t relate to at least one element of the movie in the
one hundred and twenty some odd minutes of intense sound and color. Baseball is America s pastime,
America s national game. Thus a movie about baseball captivates the essential American spirit in its
purest form. Personally I feel that Field of Dreams, starring Kevin Costner as Ray Kinsella ... Show

But this was not enough to insure financial stability as the league expanded too readily and rapidly to
thirty teams. Currently baseball is struggling, especially in the cities home to small market teams.
Thus why Commissioner Bud Selig and the owners recently approved a motion to implement
contraction, or the elimination of franchises from the league, most likely of the Montreal Expos and
the Minnesota Twins. According to Selig, the teams facing contraction were chosen based on three
principle characteristics: a small fan base, a small total revenue generated over the past couple of
seasons and the smallest significance to the game. In this case, the writer who chooses to employ
exigence is ESPN: the Magazine columnist Jim Caple. Formerly a sports columnist for the Saint Paul
Pioneer Press from 1989 to 2000 and a diehard Twins fan, Caple wrote his article entitled Bud s Twin
Killing in the November 26th issue of ESPN: the Magazine. Using the three main artistic appeals as
defined by Sophocles, Caple sets out to expose why Commissioner Selig wants to dissolve the Twins,
how his reasoning is inappropriately influenced and, above all, why the Twins should remain in
Minnesota.
Ethos is usually the first artistic appeal found in any piece of writing. Caple s article is no exception to
this age old rule. Ethos, or credibility and goodwill, is demonstrated by Caple in paragraph two

Comparing Orwell And Anthem, By Ayn Rand
Secrets in the Shadows
Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one
(Thomas Paine). 1984, written by George Orwell, and Anthem, written by Ayn Rand, are both
dystopian novels written to develop the idea of an overpowering government. Winston Smith, the
protagonist of 1984, is a member of the Outer Party in the new world of Oceania where all thoughts
are observed and each hope obliterated. Winston works in the Ministry of Truth where he erases
history in order to form the present, however, Winston wonders about the circumstances of his world,
run by the ubiquitous face of Big Brother, and hopes for a time, free of the suffocating hands of the
Party, in order to obtain freedom. Along with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
George Orwell writes about the hope that Winston and O Brien hold that someday they will be able to
meet in the light without fear, when O Brien naively says, We shall meet in the place where there is no
darkness, O Brien had said to him. He knew what it meant, or thought he knew. The place where there
is no darkness was the imagined future, which one would never see, but which, by foreknowledge, one
could mystically share in (Orwell 107). Along with Orwell, the Bible alludes to the revelations in the
light when Luke writes, Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and
what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed on the housetops (English Standard
Version, Luke 12.3). O Brien is telling Winston that even though they are unable to meet in the all
telling daylight, someday his hope is that they will be able to meet somewhere other than under the
cover of darkness. Winston and O Brien are both hoping to one day live in a society where freedom is
available and privacy is an achievable feat, however they are unable to do so now because the light
exposes all secrets because it shines through the darkness and takes away their solitude. Then, Luke
writes that each word uttered in the darkness of confinement will be heard in the light, for the light
exposes all secrets. Both authors

Glasnost and the Political Context of Gorbachev s Reforms
Did Gorbachev implement Glasnost with the aim of turning the Soviet Union into a democratic
capitalist economy?
A: Plan of the Investigation
Did Gorbachev implement Glasnost with the aim of turning the Soviet Union into a democratic
capitalist economy? Thesis: Glasnost was a means to achieve Gorbachev s broader political reforms,
however, these reforms did not include the installation of a democratic, capitalist economy. At the time
Gorbachev implemented Glasnost, he intended for the Communist Party to remain the only party and
for the Government to own most of the major enterprises.
The democratization, economic liberalization, and eventual collapse of the Soviet Union is commonly
attributed to Mikhail Gorbachev s Perestroika and Glasnost reforms during the period of 1985 1991.
This purpose of these reforms is still a trenchant question as the countries of the old Soviet Union,
particular Russia, are being pressured to further liberalize their economies.
This study will examine Gorbachev s understanding of the Glasnost policy and the role of Glasnost in
Gorbachev s larger political reform program with the help of the Gorbachev Factor, by Archie Brown,
and Gorbachev s Glasnost, by Joseph Gibbs.
B: Summary of Evidence
The Political Context of Gorbachev s Reforms

The Cinematic Language Of Baz Luhrmann
42/60  70%  B
Baz Luhrmann essay topic 1 by Hayley Bue
Baz Luhrmann s use of cinematic language becomes more advanced through each film as technology
develops and the audience becomes more modern, demanding better produced films. His story telling
techniques become more and more complex to enable the audience to feel as if they are participating
in the film. His first two films (Strictly Ballroom and Romeo and Juliet) are definitely not naturalistic
as everything about the films is overdone. I feel however that The Great Gatsby is more natural in
terms of theatrical elements such as costumes, characters and providing a film instead of a play.
Overall Baz Luhrmann has evolved as a director from Strictly Ballroom to Romeo + Juliet to The ...

This could be because it is not part of the red curtain trilogy. There is the over exaggeration of parties,
cars and alcohol but in this day and age, it is normal for us to experience that. Gatsby may be
unnatural in his love for Daisy and his made up world but there are people like that in real life. The
camera movements and shots are smoother and blend into the film rather than stand out. For instance
the there is a low angle that zooms into Gatsby standing proud behind the window, not just a low
angle shot that suddenly cuts to another shot like in Strictly ballroom. The drama in the movie was
also dulled down, the gunshot to Gatsby s back wasn t overly exaggerated and Gatsby s fight with
Tom was so violent.
In conclusion, Baz Luhrmann advances most of his cinematic language through each movie. He
provides more complex story telling techniques to incorporate the audience. His first two films are
highly theatrical while he toned down his theatrics in The Great Gatsby making it a more natural
theme. Baz Luhrmann has evolved in his directing from Strictly Ballroom to Romeo and Juliet to The
Great Gatsby.

Barbie Doll Patriarchy
The two poems that I chose to write about are Barbie Doll by Marge Piercy and homage to my hips by
Lucille Clifton. In Piercy s biography says, Her description of the girlchild in Barbie Doll is a not so
thinly veiled reference to herself. Piercy, however, did not sacrifice herself to patriarchy s image of
what an ideal woman should be; rather, she made herself into a crusader for women s rights ( Barbie
Doll 33). The quote helps me to understand Piercy s views for this poem. She felt that she did not fit
into the image of the perfect women of how society was seeing, but she would not let a man control
her life. Instead, she became an advocate for women s rights. Lucille Clifton introduction for her
biography says, The poet is celebrating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Douglas writes the article Young Women Learn Harmful Gender Stereotypes from Reality TV that, I
think, is most relevant in the 21st century. The author says, Any feminist, female or male, who has
seen ABC s The Bachelor was repulsed. For those who have missed this fine media offering, a
carefully selected lunk of a guy in the most recent case, Aaron is presented with a harem of 25 also
carefully selected young women, all slim, all conventionally pretty and most blonde (Douglas, para.
1). A show such as The Bachelor does not represent real women. The media tries to portrait a perfect
looking woman, which majorities are white on the show. In Clifton s poem, she frees herself from the
stereotype of what women should look. In her poem homage to my hips, the speaker says, these hips
have never been enslaved, / they go where they want to go / they do what they want to do (ln. 8 10).
Additionally, Douglas says, The show is not about Aaron, it s about the 25 young women. Female
viewers see an array of personas, identifying with some and rejecting others, as they calibrate what
kind of woman succeeds in a world where appearance and personality still powerfully determine a
woman s fate (para. 8). To me, it says that a women who watches those type of show do not care about
the bachelor, what they care is about how women behaves and their looks. Just like in The Bachelor
the Piercy s poem, Barbie Doll a classmate judges the looks of a girl. In the poem, the speaker

Midsummer Night s Dream And Disney s Aladdin
There s different genres of movies, plays, and stories. Horror, fantasy, tragedy, comedy, romance,
mystery, etc. In these genres are different plots to each story, each ending differently. However the
stories all follow the same set of elements depending on its genre. These elements separate the genres
from each other, a happy ending doesn t occur in a tragedy but is seen in comedy. Romance can end in
a tragedy or with a happy ending. Modern or centuries old, each genre use these elements, whether the
writers realize it. For example, comedy has plenty of elements that are used, although not all are
applied but most are. Shakespeare s Midsummer Night s Dream and Disney s Aladdin are good
examples of this. In Midsummer Night s Dream, the story starts with Theseus, duke of Athens,
engaged to Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons. While preparing for their wedding, Theseus is
confronted by Egeus, who brings criticism about his daughter Hermia, who refuses his wishes to
marry Demetrius, for she is in love with Lysander. Egeus demands that either Hermia respects his
wishes or be punished by the Athenian law. While Hermia is in love with Lysander and vice versa,
Demetrius is in love with Hermia and ignores Helena, Hermia s childhood friend, unrequited love.
While this is going on, in the forest where the fairies live there is also a situation. Oberon, the king of
the fairies, wants Titania s, his beautiful wife and queen of the fairies, changeling as a knight. Titania

Four Practical Principles Of Vocabulary Education
Vocabulary is one of the most important contributors to children s learning. The higher the levels of
vocabulary knowledge a child has, the more they will understand and the faster they will learn.
Vocabulary learning begins at home. From an article I read in college Four practical principles for
enhancing vocabulary instruction , research has shown that the level of vocabulary instruction
received by children beginning at home has a huge bearing on both the success of children s personal
and academic development. Children from low income families and non English speaking families
face a large deficit in English vocabulary knowledge when beginning school (Manyak et al., 2014).
This deficit in turn becomes a major barrier and obstacle to reading success, and thus there is an
urgent need for teachers and schools to improve the quality of vocabulary instruction.
A lot of these children are unable to comprehend the vocabulary which they ... Show more content on

The average student knows 40,000 words (Manyak et al., 2014) so it is obvious that students need to
know more words than teachers can teach. One strategy would be to choose between 12 and 15 target
words to teach each week, depending on the level of word knowledge a word takes to understand.
There are four pragmatic principles for enhancing vocabulary instruction (Nosal, 2012). These are:
1) Establish efficient yet rich routines for introducing target words (Nosal, 2012) teaching individual
words takes time, especially if you have a large number of words to teach. Time can be saved if
successful routines are used. Having a routine saves vital learning time.
2) Provide review experiences that promote deep processing of target words (Nosal, 2012) give the
children experiences of the words that allow and encourage them to use and understand each word, the
children should be exposed to each word in multiple

Network Security Concepts Essay
Network Security Concepts
File security falls into two categories, encryption and access. Access to files can mean physical access
to a computer with unsecured files or access via user permissions or privileges in the form of access
control lists (ACLs) (Strengthen Your Users File Security, 2003). The files kept on a server with NTFS
storage can be locked to prevent anyone who does not have the correct permissions from opening
them. This is secure but can be bypassed with physical access to an open computer and should not be
used for sensitive information. The other method of securing files is by encrypting the information in
the files using an Encrypting File System (EFS), which employs public key encryption privileges

Secret and private keys are very similar and are often used interchangeably. The difference is that
secret keys are used for both encryption and decryption, while a private key is part of the
public/private key system and is used only for decryption (Cryptography, 2005). In both cases, the key
may be known only to a single person or a limited group of people in order to keep the key secure.
Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) is a method of verifying users on a network, while a digital certificate
is a reference from a neutral company that confirms the identity of an internet site (Shay, 2004, p. 321)
and (Tomsho, G., Tittel, E. Johnson, D., 2004, P. 378). The digital certificate is issued by a Certificate
Authority (CA) such as Verisign, and a registration authority (RA) that acts as a reference to identify
an entity to a user of the website, and uses a directory that holds the certificate and can revoke a
company s digital status. The PKI technology is at the core of the digital certificates used in almost all
transactions on the internet. The PKI uses a cryptographic key pair, one of which is public and one
which is private, to authenticate the owner of the certificate (PKI, 2002).
In each of the layers of the OSI model, there are security risks that exist and are developing now, and

The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari
The Cabinet of Dr.Caligari, directed by Robert Wiene first made its appearance in 1920. The film is
considered one of the most defining German expressionist film out of the Avant garde cinema
movement. The film became a template for future films that is horror based and also influenced the
film style of film noirs with its lighting. With its gothic tone that pays homage to expressionistic
paintings that depicts human emotions, the film shows us a place that is distorted and twisted through
the narration of the film s deranged character. I will explore how the film show us the various stylistic
elements that is associated with expressionist films and how this helped to create the distorted looking
world through the vision of a madman.
After the Germans loses in World War I, the American government was in control of the art of
expressionism that is occurring in Germany at the same time. Reality for them was intolerable and
therefore to escape this insufferable reality, they turned to arts. This reality was the fact that after their
loss, they were traumatised by it and could not fathom the fact of their economic depression, the
colonising of American culture and their politics. They used this arts to express their inner feelings
and that is why German expressionism is associated with the human emotions.
The film tells the story of the crazy hypnotist Dr.Caligari through the narration of Francis. Francis and
his friend Alan, meets Caligari at a carnival in their town. Part

Lotteries Cheat and Corrupt people Essay
Lotteries Cheat, Corrupt The People
In Lotteries Cheat, Corrupt The People George F. Will argues that lotteries have done nothing but
corrupt and cheat the people of this country. Will compares gambling to a game of jai alai saying it is a
game for the entertainment of gamblers and the benefit of, among others, the state treasury. However,
I disagree completely and truly believe that lotteries do much than that. Lotteries give personal
enjoyment to those who are gambling and hope to those who are hopeless. Along with the benefits it
brings to the individuals who participate, the government also profits by gaining money that they can
than spend on other valuable practices.

Will says Gamblers are drawn disproportionately from minority and poor populations that can ill
afford to gamble, that are especially susceptible to the lure of gambling... Minority s and people with
lower income see gambling as a chance of hope that could possibly turn their lives around; especially
a person who unfortunately has to work a minimum or sub minimum wage job to support their family.
From the moment the ticket is purchased to the date they announce the lucky numbers; hope of a life
changing event is instilled in the ticket holders mind. Along with the thought of hope that lotteries
bring to the table; they also provide very important funding to their communities. People who are
uneducated about the lottery look down upon it. Mainly people believe it is nothing but a scam along
with an addictive way rush that can drain away all of the players money. Apart from personal
enjoyment and hope, lotteries give back and support their communities. Nation wide states need the
support of its people before creating a lottery. California s State Lottery was erected due to the
promises of giving back and supporting statewide education. California recently passed a bill stating
that eighty seven percent of sales generated through the lottery will go back to the public through
prizes and contributions to education leaving the rest to government expenses. Lotteries are not

Comparing Eden Medina s Lady With A Lamp
Part familiar, part strange, sometimes comforting, always close to my heart, the sari, a mere cloth

commitment. The commitment of a family s legacy as within each sari, a legacy is stored. A legacy
well depicted by my connection to my culture through the traditional artwork my family owns. The
relation I had felt with the painting Lady with a Lamp was personal, a similar emotional attachment is
described by Eden Medina in Ballet Slippers . Despite having many other clothing items related to
ballet the footwear is the object of identification which draws the line between ballet and other styles
of dance for Medina (Ballet Slippers). Aesthetically pleasing both the ballet slippers and the sari carry
symbolic power as the sari embraces the woman s body integrated with their traditional Indian beliefs
with the garment s mobility and the slipper embraces the evolution to more durable hard material
which broadened the range of movement the ballerina was expected to perform (Ballet Slippers). ...

Negative Impact On Graphic Design
In this day and age anything is possible, whereas just a few years ago all we had for creating graphics
were a pencil and paper. The fact that technology is evolving every second means that the way we
design, create and even advertise it is changed. Designer can go a long way, in many different
directions. Even though the innovations introduced have a major positive impact, they do have a
negative one as well. The fact that virtually anyone can use things like graphics tablets, graphics
software and online tutorials causes people to label themselves as graphics designers , and they re not
wrong. In the Digital Age anyone can call themselves that when buying Adobe and designing
something but in the real world they re actually not doing anything extra ordinary because anyone
with at least some creative skills can design, and the keep evolving technology makes it even easier to
DIY Do it yourself. It s becoming easier for amateurs to learn the skills that they need for basic design
. It has a bad impact on the creative industries because instead of asking a professional, you can ask a
friend or a person you know to design something for you, all for a really low price compared with
professional graphic designers. In the olden days it was a much bigger thing to be called a graphics
designer because in their age things like computers and especially computer programs weren t widely
available yet. Designers like Paula Scher, ... , ... , started their careers with handmade

History Of Vaccines
Introduction to Vaccinations
History of Vaccinations
Laying the foundation for modern vaccinology in 1796, Edward Jenner observed a milkmaid with the
cowpox infection appeared to be immune to the outbreak of smallpox. By inoculating an eight year
old boy with the pus from an infected milkmaid, and exposing smallpox material to the boy weeks
later, Jenner demonstrated smallpox immunization; as the boy never fell ill (Stern, 2005).

An immune compromised patient, such as those taking immune suppressive agents (organ donor,
leukemia), cannot be given this vaccine as it produces the actual disease (Clem, 2011).
Hence, another disadvantage of live microbes is that they have the ability to mutate and regain
pathogenic factors. This was known to occur with live (oral) polio vaccine, where the microbe
reverted into a form that paralysed the vaccinated host (1 in 750,000 doses)(Nathanson, 2008). As a
result of this, industrialized countries only inoculate the vaccine through inactivated polio vaccine
(IPV), which cannot revert. And finally, live attenuated vaccine failure can occur due to antibody
interference, with replication of the vaccine pathogen and lead to poor response to the vaccine.
Live attenuated vaccines can be difficult to develop, as they are fragile and can be damaged by heat or
light. Though they must be handled and stored carefully, live attenuated vaccines elicit a long lasting

Esperanza Rising Quotes
The main character of the book, Esperanza Rising, is a young girl named Esperanza. The story begins
in Aguascalientes, Mexico on a beautiful ranch owned by Esperanza s father. However, Esperanza and
her family are forced to immigrate to America. Throughout the journey, Esperanza reveals several of
her personality traits. All of these traits can be represented by symbols. First, a bag of coins can
symbolize Esperanza s selfishness and arrogance in the beginning of the story. I chose this because a
selfish and conceited person would want more of something and believe he or she is superior to other
people. Esperanza s selfishness shines through on page 69 where the author writes, Mona, she said,
and reached up to touch the doll. Esperanza quickly jerked it away and put it back in the valise,
covering it with the old clothes. Also, her arrogance is shown on page 67 when Esperanza is boarding
a train filled with peasants and she says, We can t travel in this car. It s not clean and the people don t
look trustworthy. These quotes clearly suggests that Esperanza dislikes sharing her possessions with
the less fortunate, wants more for herself, and believes that she is too ... Show more content on

already offered to watch Pepe and Lupe. Her hard work is also displayed on page 182 where the
author writes, She put her hands under the faucet, rinsed off the avocado, and patted them dry. They
felt better, but still looked red and weathered. She took another avocado, cut it in half, swung the knife

The author uses setting to convey the night of the Dunwich Horror. The setting describes the strange
things around them the night of it all starting. This can be seen in the quotation The Dunwich horror
proper begins on the night of September 9th. The hills groan, dogs howl, and a stench hangs in the air.
A farmhand, Luther Brown, frantically tells Mrs. Corey, for whom he works, of the disheveled fields
he has just witnessed. Bushes and trees have been uprooted and pushed aside as if something as large
as a house has swept through the area ( The Dunwich Horror ). The setting helps create the suspense
of what s about to occur. Lovecraft describes this night as it was in the dark of September 9th that the
horror broke loose. The hill noises had been very pronounced during the evening, and dogs barked
frantically all night. Early risers on the 10th noticed a peculiar stench in the air. About seven o clock
Luther Brown, the hired boy at George Corey s, between Cold Spring Glen and the village, rushed
frenziedly back from his morning trip to Ten Acre Meadow with the cows (lovecraft). The suspense
that Lovecraft creates wouldn t be there if it wasn t for the scary surroundings. The suspense all ties in

The Power And Ethics Of Language
The Power and Ethics of Language
It was April 2010. David Cameron and Gordon Brown were the political frontrunners of Great Britain.
However, that realization was irrelevant with what was about to happen. Everyone was watching as
the highly anticipated, first televised debates in the United Kingdom began. The discourse ended after
several hours, and a new candidate quickly emerged as the leader. His name was Nick Clegg. He led
the Liberal Democrats, the smallest party. One might think about it over and over again and ask, How
did such a thing happen? . The answer, in itself, lies within the influence of the media, the power of
language, and how its words are intertwined so masterfully that the effect becomes immeasurable. As
Diane Setterfield once noted, There is something about words. In expert hands, manipulated deftly,
they take you prisoner. They wind themselves around your limbs like spider silk, and when you are so
enthralled you cannot move, they pierce your skin, enter your blood, numb your thoughts. Inside you
they work their magic. The press established a perception for Clegg and made it known not only to all
those in attendance, but to everyone who was watching across the nation. Based on his calm,
collective demeanor and the way he was in control, Nick looked like the host. David and Gordon, on
the other hand, appeared rattled and uncomfortable. They went from being the top two candidates to
guests, in a matter of several hours. That just did not seem

Cyber Crime Prevention Is Not Only A Continuing Problem
Applications
Cyber Crime Prevention
Internet security is not only a continuing problem, but an increasing one. Yet, many companies do not
have adequate internet security measures in place. To help businesses thwart cyber criminals operating
over the internet, several steps are recommended. First, before deciding to use the internet for business
purposes, organizations should articulate how they intend to use the internet (e.g., e commerce;
marketing web site; communication with business partners, customers, suppliers). Once this
information is articulated, the company should next assess what risks are associated with each of the
uses. Risks are the quantifiable likelihood that a financial investment will result in loss for the
investor. A high risk investment is associated with both a higher probability of loss and a possibility of
greater return on investment. Risk assessment is the process of determining the potential loss and
probability of loss of the organization s objectives.
In doing risk assessment, the organization needs to take into account the probability of various types
of cyber attacks and the cost to the organization if these attacks occur. Potential costs could result from
computer downtime, loss of data, loss of reputation in the marketplace, or even law suits in reaction to
preventable theft of identity or other information. A number of risks can occur as a result of
cybercrime including destruction of data, interference with business operations,

Abolishment of Animal Testing Essay
Have you ever really thought about what happens during animal testing? How the animals are treated,
or what tortures they have to face on a day to day basis? More than one hundred million animals suffer
and die every year through animal testing. Ninety five percent of animals used in experimentation aren
t even covered under the Animal Welfare Act, which regulates the treatment of the animals that are
used for testing. Some animals are abused and mistreated so badly that they die before they are even
experimented on. Animal testing is a cruel procedure and should be made illegal.
However, animal testing is very important to understanding the human body. Over the years, we have

A mouse cannot speak for itself, but no living creature would willingly go through some of the
horrendous procedures done on test animals.
For the most part, a majority of the cruel experiments done to animals are extremely pointless. It has
been reported that researchers will inject large amounts of LSD (acid) into elephants, just to see what
would happen. The side effects of LSD in humans has already been established, so injecting elephants
with the drug was highly unnecessary. Monkeys are also victims of pointless drug experimentations.
For the most part, everyone is already aware of the harmful side effects that occur from smoking while
pregnant. However, the federal government still grants researchers 10 million dollars to inject
pregnant monkeys with nicotine. The nicotine causes the developing monkey fetuses to have lung
damage and other birth defects. The unborn babies are then cut out of the mothers and killed so the
researchers can perform autopsies on their organs. That is not all; the Wake Forest University Baptist
Medical Center was awarded $71,623 in stimulus funds to feed cocaine to monkeys. Even though the
effects of cocaine are already known for humans. The list of pointless animal experiments goes on and
on. What are researchers even gaining from these useless experiments?
Also, humans and animals are not the same! Where s the reason in testing products

Using Virtual Reconstruction Methods And The Technologies
Abstract In my art history class, we studied Rome Reborn, a 3D digital model of illustrating the urban
development of ancient Rome. I thought it could be tied nicely into our understanding new media,
more specifically how the use of virtual reconstruction methods and the technologies are cultural and
historical customs. A virtual reconstruction, as a simulation, could be seen as accurately imitating the
past and it may also be comprehended as a model constituting a hyperreality. These two perspectives
are regarded as opposite ends of a spectrum in which the comprehension of a simulation sways due to
the embedded conventions of realism. While not arguing a fixed position, this paper argues that above
all a simulation should be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rome Reborn (RR) s objective is to create scientific 3D digital models that illustrate the development
of the city of Rome from the first settlement in the late Bronze Ages to the dramatic depopulation of
the city in the early middle Ages ca. 552 AD (Frischer, 2) However, the project team started modeling
at the moment of 320 AD because at that time Rome is considered to be at the height of its urban
development. Since 2007, the project team of RR has been releasing and distributing images and
videos of the virtual reconstruction on the web for public viewing. After all, a goal of archaeology is
to present their interpretations of the ancient remains. According to Frischer, the videos present the
current stage of the virtual reconstruction of ancient Rome s urban development in 320 AD, even
including animations as casual as civilians strolling through buildings to something as exciting as
gladiators fighting at the Coliseum. Every time a new walk through is released, it results in numerous
and mainly encouraging, comments from the public; This is how beautiful Rome once looked!
(Vimeo) and Just amazing!! Rome looked incredible and beautiful!! (Vimeo) Based on such feedback,
people are mostly concerned with the correctness and accuracy of the representational qualities of the
city. However, ancient Rome does not exist anymore and

Analysis Of The Poem Radiohead
Radiohead, in a Motion Picture Soundtrack, tie together the negative effects of popularity and pop
culture. By leaving out the more optimistic view of fame, it prevents the sugar coating of details. This
technique, while dreary and glum, sets the perfect tone for the writer to reach the reader on subjects
not frequently talked about. Ironically, in order to shine light upon this topic, Radiohead creates as
gloomy and dark of an environment as possible to convey their ideas. Within the song itself there
exists a constant struggle of here they, the band, are, the negative side, and here is where they want to
be or where they belong, a hope for something positive. They also use this method to reiterate the idea
that fame is not so glorious. Instead, fame deceives other into yearning for something not there.
Radiohead hones in on this illusory view with the connection to suicide. Unfortunately, suicide is
often the easy way out of a hectic life specifically for music culture. In essence, Radiohead s song
demonstrates, through their experiences, that the media does not depict the complete picture of fame.
Overall, Motion Picture Soundtrack perfectly communicates this negative side of fame and how
oftentimes the only way out is death. In order to convey the horrors and monotony of fame, Radiohead
uses background music to paint a picture for the message, or lyrics, to live upon. Before the song
begins you can look at the title to understand that a Motion Picture Soundtrack, or

American Sign Language ( Asl )
Classifiers are handshapes we use in American sign language (ASL) to show the movement,
placement, orientation, size, and shape of a noun. Since ASL is a rule governed language when using
classifiers you must first identify the noun, then you can use the classifier to show how the object
moves or is placed in relationship to other objects (Aron). American sign language uses eight different
kinds of classifiers for specific categories.
Since classifiers cover a wide variety of uses there are several categories that a classifier can be used
for, as a Descriptive classifier (DCL) which is used for describing an object or a person. The story
TIMBER the signer describes a lumberjack s appearance. The signer describes the lumberjacks large
muscles and large chest; he describes the plaid shirt the lumberjack is wearing as well. Locative
Classifiers (LCL) are representing an object in a specific place and sometimes movement. The
handshape is given followed by spatial or locative information. In the story TIMBER the signer uses
several Locative classifiers, one of them is when he shows the forest being in front of the lumberjack.
Another classifier is the Semantic Classifier (SCL) that represents a category of nouns such as a
vehicle or a person. The handshape is given then information about specific movement. In the story
TIMBER the signer uses the semantic classifier to show a person walking in the woods as well as a
tree about to fall. Plural Classifiers (PCL) indicates

Oscar is a movie from 1991 it was one of the first screwball comedies which are a principally
American genre of comedy that became popular during the Great Depression (Dick 156). Oscar was
directed by John Landis and produced by Leslie Belzberg. In Oscar, the main character has a quarrel
relationship with his daughter to try to teach her how the real world is. Throughout the movie the main
character Angelo known as snaps always wanted the best for his daughter Lisa; he wanted her to
marry a well off man who was able to have anything in the world just for her. Lisa finally tells her

pregnant. The tone to Oscar is anger, disappointment and a little of understanding. Angelo shows
anger towards all the men Lisa cares for, also to his employees when they lost the suite care with
money several times. Lisa on the other hand was disappointed several times. She had to tell her father
how she s in love with someone she knows she can t marry. Another disappointment she had is she
finds out she s not the only child. The music used in Oscar was very interesting it had a little bit of
everything. For example, when one of Angelo s employees sees how Lisa finally found the one the
director plays a slower song to get that he is sad because he was alone. Another scene the music was
interesting was when Lisa finds out the doctor likes her and wants to marry her. The music playing in
the background was very romantic. To where the audience was almost about to feel how loved she felt

How Does Vaccination Affect Beef Cattle
Beef Cattle
Vaccinations Vaccinations occur throughout all stages of life for a beef cow. Shortly after a calf is
born, the calf is separated from its mother and restrained in order to receive vaccinations that prevent
sickness and disease in the early stages of life. Following the shots, the calf rejoins its mother. Shots
continue to occur as needed throughout the animal s life.
Sickness Sickness can occur at any stage of the animal s life. Sickness can have numerous effects on a
beef cow, ultimately leading to a changed appetite, decreased energy, and if not treated could spread to
the rest of the herd or lead to death.
Extreme Weather The weather can affect beef cattle during all stages of life. When extreme heat of
extreme cold set in, animals will experience different reactions. In hot weather, there may be a
decrease in appetite due to the heat. On the opposite end, there will be an increased desire for food in

likely to be spooked from the sounds and sights of the machinery.

The Legalization Of Drugs And Drugs In The 21st Century
Drugs have always been a huge part of society and the 21st century is no exception. They have been
an integral part of many religions and cultures, they have been used for medical purposes and even for
recreational use. What many people don t know is that many of the drugs that are used today are many
times more potent than they were just 20 years ago. The Drug movement that is happening now will
affect the USA and other countries forever afterwards and the legalization of some drugs for
recreational use, including marijuana and alcohol, are all at the center of this war. Drugs have been
around for a lot longer then many would believe. Some of the first drugs to be used by mankind were
opioids as far back as 5000 bc by the Sumerians during religious rituals (Timeline). Since then drugs
have been used by almost every culture on the Earth. One of the first large scale drugs issues to have
happened in the past 500 years was in China with opium that was bought through the British traders.
The British started the war over Chinese produced teas The war disrupted the opium trade that Britain
had with China. Those addicted to opium in China had no where to get their drugs and many died
from the side effects of withdrawal from the drug. After a few hundred years the US began having its
own issues with tobacco, alcohol and many new drugs that were first used for medical purposes but
were quickly deemed harmful and addictive (Cannabis). First attempt to fix this was prohibition

335 of the Civil Code.
The words used in paragraph (1) of Article 335 of the Civil Code, in enumerating the persons who
cannot adopt, are clear and unambiguous. When the New Civil Code was adopted, it changed the word
descendant, found in the Spanish Civil Code to which the New Civil Code was patterned, to children.
The children thus mentioned have a clearly defined meaning in law and do not include grandchildren.
In the present case, Roderick and Rommel Daoang, the grandchildren of Antero Agonoy and Amanda
Ramos Agonoy, cannot assail the adoption of Quirino Bonilla and Wilson Marcos by the Agonoys.
Therefore, the general rule is that only statutes with an ambiguous or doubtful meaning may be the
subjects of statutory construction.

The subject provision of the Local Government Code, Sec. 74 Paragraph (b) provides that No recall

immediately preceding a regular local election . Hence, It is a rule in statutory construction that every

The Normandy Invasion may have been the single most important battle on the Western Front of
World War II. Much planning went into the siege of these beaches that ensured a tough, but inevitable
victory, as well as other factors, such as the exploitation of the Germans ignorance of the attack. The
Allied Forces took much time in plotting the invasion of the beaches of Normandy, France to establish
a sure victory, as they d be sacrificing many troops and resources. They also skillfully and masterfully
concocted a planned hoax by deciding they would place dummy landing sites all around the eastern

The whole war had led up to this day, especially since the plans for the invasion were being made
even as early as 1942 or 1943, after the Soviet Union requested help to relieve pressure on their
military in Eastern Europe following the Battle of Stalingrad, where they and Romania lost over
250,000 men combined. The thoughts of a soldier who had been fighting all throughout World War II
would have probably consisted of, one, wanted to go home already, but two, thinking that nothing
could be worse than what they had already experienced. They knew in their minds that they were
ready for this mission, and had the plans of the military backing up their claims of definite victory. A
soldier would, of course, hold their personal doubts and fright, but when counted among many fellow
troops willing to fight for the same cause as their own, they can t help but feel the collective morale of
their comrades and themselves. This personal morale was only boosted by the genius work of WWII s
commanders skills in speech. The day before the actual attack, General Eisenhower gave his men a
motivational speech they d never forget. An excerpt from the speech: Soldiers, sailors, and airmen of
the Allied Expeditionary Force! You are about to embark upon the greatest crusade toward which we
have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. Though General George Patton
also gave his own speech that day, I won t bore you with another quote (though Patton was far from a
boring individual). Instead, you should now be able to reflect on how important morale was for the
forces getting ready to siege Normandy. The Allied troops were physically and mentally prepared,
while the Germans in Normandy, if anything, had lost morale as they believed there was nothing to do

  • 2. The Juan De Fuca Plate This is a subduction in the northern part of the west side of the North American plate at the Cascadia subduction zone. It goes from the top of California to the bottom of Canada around Vancouver Island. There have been thoughts of a megathrust earthquake since the mega quake in Japan in 2011. As mentioned earlier, the Juan de Fuca plate is being pushed under the North American along the Cascadia fault. The theory is, when big parts of the plates lock, the stress is gathered until it breaks and a major earthquake could happen. The Juan de Fuca plate is sub ducting beneath the North American plate. This area is known as the Cascadia subduction zone. There is a type of earthquake that happens so slowly that it can t be felt. Every 12 to 15 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Utilitarianism In Chile In the beginning the nomadic Araucanos had control over south Chile, and Incans had control over the north. The capital of Chile is Santiago, and was founded in 1541 by Pedro DeVildivia. Chile became independent from Spain in 1818 when Bernado O Higgins and Jose DeSan Martin where in power. The dictator at that time was Bernado O Higgins, and he laid down the foundation of the modern state with a two party system and centralized government. To extend the Chilean territory the dictator Diego Portales fought in a war with Peru from 1836 to 1839, three years long. They adopted a new constitution in 1925. In 1970 they had their first president in a non Communist country who was Salvador Allende. Chile has a republic government. In the earliest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They usually greet the person with a Buenos Dias or whatever time it is at that time of the day. Direct eye contact is take important. • 4. Keeping Baseball a Constant Essay Keeping Baseball a Constant Movies are an integral part of American life. They make us laugh and in a blink of an eye make us cry. But above all, movies tell a story, a story about not merely the characters in the flick, but about each and every one of us in the audience. No matter what the plot, purpose or theme of the movie, there isn t a single person who can honestly say that they can t relate to at least one element of the movie in the one hundred and twenty some odd minutes of intense sound and color. Baseball is America s pastime, America s national game. Thus a movie about baseball captivates the essential American spirit in its purest form. Personally I feel that Field of Dreams, starring Kevin Costner as Ray Kinsella ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But this was not enough to insure financial stability as the league expanded too readily and rapidly to thirty teams. Currently baseball is struggling, especially in the cities home to small market teams. Thus why Commissioner Bud Selig and the owners recently approved a motion to implement contraction, or the elimination of franchises from the league, most likely of the Montreal Expos and the Minnesota Twins. According to Selig, the teams facing contraction were chosen based on three principle characteristics: a small fan base, a small total revenue generated over the past couple of seasons and the smallest significance to the game. In this case, the writer who chooses to employ exigence is ESPN: the Magazine columnist Jim Caple. Formerly a sports columnist for the Saint Paul Pioneer Press from 1989 to 2000 and a diehard Twins fan, Caple wrote his article entitled Bud s Twin Killing in the November 26th issue of ESPN: the Magazine. Using the three main artistic appeals as defined by Sophocles, Caple sets out to expose why Commissioner Selig wants to dissolve the Twins, how his reasoning is inappropriately influenced and, above all, why the Twins should remain in Minnesota. Ethos is usually the first artistic appeal found in any piece of writing. Caple s article is no exception to this age old rule. Ethos, or credibility and goodwill, is demonstrated by Caple in paragraph two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Comparing Orwell And Anthem, By Ayn Rand Secrets in the Shadows Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one (Thomas Paine). 1984, written by George Orwell, and Anthem, written by Ayn Rand, are both dystopian novels written to develop the idea of an overpowering government. Winston Smith, the protagonist of 1984, is a member of the Outer Party in the new world of Oceania where all thoughts are observed and each hope obliterated. Winston works in the Ministry of Truth where he erases history in order to form the present, however, Winston wonders about the circumstances of his world, run by the ubiquitous face of Big Brother, and hopes for a time, free of the suffocating hands of the Party, in order to obtain freedom. Along with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... George Orwell writes about the hope that Winston and O Brien hold that someday they will be able to meet in the light without fear, when O Brien naively says, We shall meet in the place where there is no darkness, O Brien had said to him. He knew what it meant, or thought he knew. The place where there is no darkness was the imagined future, which one would never see, but which, by foreknowledge, one could mystically share in (Orwell 107). Along with Orwell, the Bible alludes to the revelations in the light when Luke writes, Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed on the housetops (English Standard Version, Luke 12.3). O Brien is telling Winston that even though they are unable to meet in the all telling daylight, someday his hope is that they will be able to meet somewhere other than under the cover of darkness. Winston and O Brien are both hoping to one day live in a society where freedom is available and privacy is an achievable feat, however they are unable to do so now because the light exposes all secrets because it shines through the darkness and takes away their solitude. Then, Luke writes that each word uttered in the darkness of confinement will be heard in the light, for the light exposes all secrets. Both authors ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Glasnost and the Political Context of Gorbachev s Reforms Did Gorbachev implement Glasnost with the aim of turning the Soviet Union into a democratic capitalist economy? A: Plan of the Investigation Did Gorbachev implement Glasnost with the aim of turning the Soviet Union into a democratic capitalist economy? Thesis: Glasnost was a means to achieve Gorbachev s broader political reforms, however, these reforms did not include the installation of a democratic, capitalist economy. At the time Gorbachev implemented Glasnost, he intended for the Communist Party to remain the only party and for the Government to own most of the major enterprises. The democratization, economic liberalization, and eventual collapse of the Soviet Union is commonly attributed to Mikhail Gorbachev s Perestroika and Glasnost reforms during the period of 1985 1991. This purpose of these reforms is still a trenchant question as the countries of the old Soviet Union, particular Russia, are being pressured to further liberalize their economies. This study will examine Gorbachev s understanding of the Glasnost policy and the role of Glasnost in Gorbachev s larger political reform program with the help of the Gorbachev Factor, by Archie Brown, and Gorbachev s Glasnost, by Joseph Gibbs. B: Summary of Evidence The Political Context of Gorbachev s Reforms The Soviet Union faced a number of significant challenges during the 1980 s. The most obvious challenges were economic. The Soviet Union s command economy, where the government determined output and prices, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Cinematic Language Of Baz Luhrmann 42/60  70%  B Baz Luhrmann essay topic 1 by Hayley Bue Baz Luhrmann s use of cinematic language becomes more advanced through each film as technology develops and the audience becomes more modern, demanding better produced films. His story telling techniques become more and more complex to enable the audience to feel as if they are participating in the film. His first two films (Strictly Ballroom and Romeo and Juliet) are definitely not naturalistic as everything about the films is overdone. I feel however that The Great Gatsby is more natural in terms of theatrical elements such as costumes, characters and providing a film instead of a play. Overall Baz Luhrmann has evolved as a director from Strictly Ballroom to Romeo + Juliet to The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This could be because it is not part of the red curtain trilogy. There is the over exaggeration of parties, cars and alcohol but in this day and age, it is normal for us to experience that. Gatsby may be unnatural in his love for Daisy and his made up world but there are people like that in real life. The camera movements and shots are smoother and blend into the film rather than stand out. For instance the there is a low angle that zooms into Gatsby standing proud behind the window, not just a low angle shot that suddenly cuts to another shot like in Strictly ballroom. The drama in the movie was also dulled down, the gunshot to Gatsby s back wasn t overly exaggerated and Gatsby s fight with Tom was so violent. In conclusion, Baz Luhrmann advances most of his cinematic language through each movie. He provides more complex story telling techniques to incorporate the audience. His first two films are highly theatrical while he toned down his theatrics in The Great Gatsby making it a more natural theme. Baz Luhrmann has evolved in his directing from Strictly Ballroom to Romeo and Juliet to The Great Gatsby. Hayley, you have made some astute and insightful observations which have enhanced this essay! • 8. Barbie Doll Patriarchy The two poems that I chose to write about are Barbie Doll by Marge Piercy and homage to my hips by Lucille Clifton. In Piercy s biography says, Her description of the girlchild in Barbie Doll is a not so thinly veiled reference to herself. Piercy, however, did not sacrifice herself to patriarchy s image of what an ideal woman should be; rather, she made herself into a crusader for women s rights ( Barbie Doll 33). The quote helps me to understand Piercy s views for this poem. She felt that she did not fit into the image of the perfect women of how society was seeing, but she would not let a man control her life. Instead, she became an advocate for women s rights. Lucille Clifton introduction for her biography says, The poet is celebrating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Douglas writes the article Young Women Learn Harmful Gender Stereotypes from Reality TV that, I think, is most relevant in the 21st century. The author says, Any feminist, female or male, who has seen ABC s The Bachelor was repulsed. For those who have missed this fine media offering, a carefully selected lunk of a guy in the most recent case, Aaron is presented with a harem of 25 also carefully selected young women, all slim, all conventionally pretty and most blonde (Douglas, para. 1). A show such as The Bachelor does not represent real women. The media tries to portrait a perfect looking woman, which majorities are white on the show. In Clifton s poem, she frees herself from the stereotype of what women should look. • 9. Midsummer Night s Dream And Disney s Aladdin There s different genres of movies, plays, and stories. Horror, fantasy, tragedy, comedy, romance, mystery, etc. In these genres are different plots to each story, each ending differently. However the stories all follow the same set of elements depending on its genre. These elements separate the genres from each other, a happy ending doesn t occur in a tragedy but is seen in comedy. Romance can end in a tragedy or with a happy ending. Modern or centuries old, each genre use these elements, whether the writers realize it. For example, comedy has plenty of elements that are used, although not all are applied but most are. Shakespeare s Midsummer Night s Dream and Disney s Aladdin are good examples of this. In Midsummer Night s Dream, the story starts with Theseus, duke of Athens, engaged to Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons. While preparing for their wedding, Theseus is confronted by Egeus, who brings criticism about his daughter Hermia, who refuses his wishes to marry Demetrius, for she is in love with Lysander. Egeus demands that either Hermia respects his wishes or be punished by the Athenian law. While Hermia is in love with Lysander and vice versa, Demetrius is in love with Hermia and ignores Helena, Hermia s childhood friend, unrequited love. The higher the levels of vocabulary knowledge a child has, the more they will understand and the faster they will learn. Vocabulary learning begins at home. From an article I read in college Four practical principles for enhancing vocabulary instruction , research has shown that the level of vocabulary instruction received by children beginning at home has a huge bearing on both the success of children s personal and academic development. Children from low income families and non English speaking families face a large deficit in English vocabulary knowledge when beginning school (Manyak et al., 2014). This deficit in turn becomes a major barrier and obstacle to reading success, and thus there is an urgent need for teachers and schools to improve the quality of vocabulary instruction. The average student knows 40,000 words (Manyak et al., 2014) so it is obvious that students need to know more words than teachers can teach. One strategy would be to choose between 12 and 15 target words to teach each week, depending on the level of word knowledge a word takes to understand. There are four pragmatic principles for enhancing vocabulary instruction (Nosal, 2012). These are: 1) Establish efficient yet rich routines for introducing target words (Nosal, 2012) teaching individual words takes time, especially if you have a large number of words to teach. Time can be saved if successful routines are used. Having a routine saves vital learning time. 2) Provide review experiences that promote deep processing of target words (Nosal, 2012) give the children experiences of the words that allow and encourage them to use and understand each word, the children should be exposed to each word in multiple ... Access to files can mean physical access to a computer with unsecured files or access via user permissions or privileges in the form of access control lists (ACLs) (Strengthen Your Users File Security, 2003). The files kept on a server with NTFS storage can be locked to prevent anyone who does not have the correct permissions from opening them. Yet, many companies do not have adequate internet security measures in place. To help businesses thwart cyber criminals operating over the internet, several steps are recommended. First, before deciding to use the internet for business purposes, organizations should articulate how they intend to use the internet (e.g., e commerce; marketing web site; communication with business partners, customers, suppliers). Once this information is articulated, the company should next assess what risks are associated with each of the uses. Risks are the quantifiable likelihood that a financial investment will result in loss for the investor. A high risk investment is associated with both a higher probability of loss and a possibility of greater return on investment. Risk assessment is the process of determining the potential loss and probability of loss of the organization s objectives. In doing risk assessment, the organization needs to take into account the probability of various types of cyber attacks and the cost to the organization if these attacks occur. The words used in paragraph (1) of Article 335 of the Civil Code, in enumerating the persons who cannot adopt, are clear and unambiguous. When the New Civil Code was adopted, it changed the word descendant, found in the Spanish Civil Code to which the New Civil Code was patterned, to children. The children thus mentioned have a clearly defined meaning in law and do not include grandchildren. In the present case, Roderick and Rommel Daoang, the grandchildren of Antero Agonoy and Amanda Ramos Agonoy, cannot assail the adoption of Quirino Bonilla and Wilson Marcos by the Agonoys. Much planning went into the siege of these beaches that ensured a tough, but inevitable victory, as well as other factors, such as the exploitation of the Germans ignorance of the attack. The Allied Forces took much time in plotting the invasion of the beaches of Normandy, France to establish a sure victory, as they d be sacrificing many troops and resources. They also skillfully and masterfully concocted a planned hoax by deciding they would place dummy landing sites all around the eastern coast, set up dozens (hundreds, even) tanks to bluff an invasion of the wrong site. They even planned to organize a faux radio network, that told ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The whole war had led up to this day, especially since the plans for the invasion were being made even as early as 1942 or 1943, after the Soviet Union requested help to relieve pressure on their military in Eastern Europe following the Battle of Stalingrad, where they and Romania lost over 250,000 men combined. The thoughts of a soldier who had been fighting all throughout World War II would have probably consisted of, one, wanted to go home already, but two, thinking that nothing could be worse than what they had already experienced. They knew in their minds that they were ready for this mission, and had the plans of the military backing up their claims of definite victory. A soldier would, of course, hold their personal doubts and fright, but when counted among many fellow troops willing to fight for the same cause as their own, they can t help but feel the collective morale of their comrades and themselves. This personal morale was only boosted by the genius work of WWII s commanders skills in speech. The day before the actual attack, General Eisenhower gave his men a motivational speech they d never forget. An excerpt from the speech: Soldiers, sailors, and airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force! You are about to embark upon the greatest crusade toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. Though General George Patton also gave his own speech that day, I won t bore you with another quote (though Patton was far from a boring individual). Instead, you should now be able to reflect on how important morale was for the forces getting ready to siege Normandy. The Allied troops were physically and mentally prepared, while the Germans in Normandy, if anything, had lost morale as they believed there was nothing to do when stationed in that ...
