Neolithic Agriculture
Agriculture is one of the best things that has happened to humans. For once, humans were freed
from the bonds that nature had over them. Agriculture has allowed so much more efficiency in
domesticating animals and plants and innovating technology. These major things have branched off
into more advanced things we know of civilizations today.
Before settlement, foraging was an extremely hard life to keep up. Many of the very young and
very old were killed, because they could not live in a harsh environment of constantly moving
around and gathering food. Foragers did not have as reliable food resources as farmers. Also,
some foods are seasonal. Growing food meant that there could be a surplus to last through times
of the year when food was not being grown. The neolithic era was a popular time for people to
start establishing organized religions and sharing ideas in a more orderly fashion, whereas foragers
shared among their groups. Forager groups kept large ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Foragers had a varied diet but these food were not always around. Many archaeologists believe that
foragers were healthier than farmers, because they were less exposed to disease and had more
nutrition. It is also speculated that without agriculture, social inequality would not have became a
problem. This is simply untrue, because man has a way of wanting to be over each other and after
a long time, somebody would inevitably end up as a leader. Since people had been hunting and
foraging for so long, they became very skilled at it. After a while, 75% of big game went extinct.
Think of how many more animals would have gone extinct if domestication and herding had not
been introduced. There might not have been any animals left to hunt by this time if hunting at their
extent had continued. William Howells is utterly flawless in his argument that agriculture is one of
the most important things that has happened to

The Recording Of Sound Recorded By Edouard Leon Scott De...
Since its infancy during the nineteenth century, the art of sound recording has been profoundly
affected in countless ways by inventors, scientists, and sound engineers. From the invention of the
phonograph to the computers of today, they have all made contributions to the foundation of sound
recording. Going forward, technologists in today s computer age are becoming more and more
creative. There has even been proof that some researchers have had a hand in altering the course of
history. With that in mind, the following questions need to be addressed:
How was the recording of sound discovered?
What technologies were implemented to improve the science?
How has today s digital age affected sound recording?
Was history really altered?
Is there any debate?
How was the recording of sound discovered?
According to history, the first sound was recorded mechanically by Г‰douard LГ©on Scott de
Martinville (de Martinville) in 1857 on a machine called the phonautograph (and). His device
would record sound by using a vibrating membrane that was attached to a pen (stylus) which
drew a line in correspondence to sound waves onto a smoked paper roll attached to a rotating
drum (and). The sounds were generated by vibrating diaphragm and a series of levers that moved
the diaphragm from side to side (and). Even though de Martinville was able to duplicate sound, his
machine was not able to play it back right after it was recorded (and). He made his machine this
way because his intensions

Summary Of Lost In Translation By Lera Boroditsky
Lost in Translation In Lost in Translation, Lera Boroditsky writes to people within businesses or
people who are wanting to invest in companies that work with other countries. She writes to inform
and tell the reader that if getting involved with other countries you need to know what to expect.
The examples she provides in her article show that languagein some countries does differ from
others, but it isn t like that in every country. She writes to inform business people what they need to
know before they get involved with other countries. This is why this article is published in the Wall
Street Journal, Boroditsky wants all business companies to know what to expect before they get
involved. Throughout the article I pulled out rhetorical choices that make the article what it is. Lera
Boroditsky credibility shows through past references, significance to audience, statistical jargon
through logos, and personal anecdotes.
In the beginning paragraphs, the article begins with a past reference and the example is based off
of a saying that everyone knows. It goes with this article perfect because it is a universal quote and
the article is always discussing how language is universal. Humpty Dumpty sat on a ... Even this
snippet of a nursery rhyme reveals how much languages can differ from one another... In English,
we have to mark the verb tense... (Boroditsky 437) Within other countries and their grammar there
are little things that are different. If someone was reading this in Australia they may say something
different than what we say. It is important that the audience knows this because it makes an impact
on how things may be presented in another country. Having this past reference, it gives the reader
the inside on what the author is explaining. When the verb tense is affected it changes the outcome
of the situation that is described. Depending on what language is being presented to the audience.
The next example s rhetorical choice is a form of statistical jargon that is using logos. Through this
quote we get to understand the facts and what is being presented. There is universal grammar for
all human languages... don t really differ from one another in significant ways. (Boroditsky 438)

Oranges are Not the Only Fruit and the two letters in The Color Purple The Chapter Joshua in
Oranges are Not the Only Fruit and the two letters in The Color Purple, where Sofia returns and
later gets brutally punished for her confrontation, both explore fundamental issues that characterize
a lot of the essence of both novels as a whole. At the heart of both of these two sections is the idea
of fighting for the truth and facing the consequences. Although Oranges are not the Only Fruit is
written in a retrospective light and The Color Purple in epistolary and consecutively in
chronological order, there are similarities within the two styles, they use similar techniques in
getting across certain issues. The novels use the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Both deal with betrayal, in the sense that Janet s mother buries her belongings and that Sofia has
to deal with racial hatred. Of course Sofia s is far more fundamental and it is more of having to

mayors wife did speak more kindly before Sofia stuck up for the truth. Both sections also explore

Pros And Cons Of Electric Over Gas Pressure Washer
Why Choose Electric Over Gas Pressure Washers? When it comes to pressure washers, the
verdict is still out over which one is best. There are some people who feel that gas is the only
pressure washer worth having. Other people feel that they could not live without their electric
pressure washer. Which one is best for you? Here is why you may decide to choose one over the
other. Electric Powered Pressure Washers With an electric pressure washer, you will experience
both pros and cons. The pros include the fact that it can be very powerful. Some electric pressure
washers are up to 2000 PSI. However, they remain quiet. They are great for cleaning small items
such as a vehicle, back yard grill, patio, pool area, and bikes. A lot of them have... Show more

They are heavy, but they often have wheels to help you with portability. These pressure washers
do require you to perform maintenance on it. However, if you keep up with the routine
maintenance, they may last you for many years. These pressure washers are more powerful than
the electric ones. Some of the higher end pressure washers can have up to 4,000 PSI and still be
available for homeowners instead of commercial use. The downside is, in most cases you will
pay more for a gas powered pressure washer. Sometimes, even for a small pressure washer, you
may expect to spend $150 more for a small gas powered pressure washer. This combined with the
fact you have to buy detergents, gas, oil, and other things makes some people choose to go with
the electric powered pressure washers. The problem with the extra price is mostly based on the
fact that you may spend $250 on a gas powered pressure washer or spend $100 on an electric
pressure washer and end up with about the same PSI. This happens because to spend that little on
a gas powered machine, you will be purchasing a low end gas powered pressure washer. If you
spend $100 on an electric, you should be getting a middle to high end cleaning

Of Mice And Men Movie And Book Comparison Essay
Multitudes of well known films are derived from novels; however, despite the majority of the
accurate depictions, these adaptations contain several varying scenes as compared to the book.
For example, John Steinbeck s novella Of Mice and Men and the 1992 movie version share similar
elements, yet the movie strays from the original source material. While the portrayal of the
characters are accurate, certain important segments are added or deleted. Therefore, despite the
correspondence of the 1992 Of Mice and Men movie to the novella, they re not exact
representations of one another. While movie adaptations often have inaccurate portrayals of the
novels characters, the Of Mice and Men movie is one of the exceptions. John Malkovich does a
magnificent job of portraying Lennie s childlike mannerisms; coupled with his physical appearance,
Malkovich appears to be the exact embodiment of Lennie. One major element of Lennie s character
is his mental handicap, which is shown through... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Things They Carreid by Tim O Brien Essay
From Vietnam to Paper Taking place in the middle of the Cold War Era, the Vietnam War was a
war not only over land but for many a battle to protect democracy and to fight communism. Much
like any other account of a war, the details are gruesome and it is even more difficult to imagine.
However, following the Vietnam War one author, who served in the war, decided to take up the
task and make an historic account of one of them most grueling wars ever fought. Tim O Brien is a
Vietnam veteran who wrote the novel The Things They Carried. There is a fine line to be walked
when writing the accounts of the war in a way that not only informs but also entertains; however,
Tim O Brien walks it successfully. In Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried,

The most prevalent and easily identifiable technique is his use of symbolism. Like previously
mentioned, the novel is series of short stories; each referencing a certain thing each soldier of
the Alpha Company humps . Also, the soldiers are referred to as legs or grunts , which
symbolizes their role in the war. The role, according to O Brien, to march for the sake of the
march (O Brien). According to an interview by Jack Smith, Tim O Brien states that My hope was
that by imposing certain technical requirements on myself, I would end up as a consequence
with an interesting, compelling, and fresh way of telling a story (Smith). His use of symbolism
does in fact give a refreshing take on storytelling and is a vital role in relating the reader to the
story. Without symbolism the story would be a very different, less interesting one. In the story
titled The Man I Killed O Brien reflects on the events leading to and following his killing of a
Vietnamese soldier via a grenade. He goes on to tell the reactions of his platoon mates as well as
his own. The explosion of the grenade left the Vietnamese soldier s face burned and
unrecognizable. This symbolizes the life of so many of the thousands of dead Vietnamese soldiers
that too were killed and consequently buried. These dead soldiers went unidentified and failed to
bring their respective families closure. O Brien struggles to cope with

Corruption In Developing Countries
Despite the real efforts made, there has been little concrete progress to date. In most developing
countries today, corruption is widespread and part of everyday life. Society has learned to live
with it, even considering it, fatalistically, as an integral part of their culture. Not only are public
or official decisions for instance, on the award of government contracts or the amount of tax due
bought and sold, but very often access to a public service or the exercise of a right, such as
obtaining civil documents, also has to be paid for.
Several mechanisms help to spread corruption and make it normal practice in these countries.
Civil servants who refuse to toe the line are removed from office; similarly, businessmen who
oppose it are penalised vis Г vis their competitors. Furthermore, an image of the state has grown
up over the years according to which the civil service, far from being a body that exists to
implement the rights of citizens rights that mirror their duties is first and foremost perceived as the
least risky way of getting rich quickly. All of which helps to make corruption seem normal.
In practice, it is the environment in which public servants and private actors operate that causes
corruption. Public administration in developing countries is often bureaucratic and inefficient. And a
large number of complex, restrictive regulations coupled with inadequate controls are characteristic
of developing countries that corruption helps to get around.

Importance Of Writing On Communication
Conversational Writing Today, technology is continuously advancing. Computers, cell phones, and
tablets are becoming lighter, faster, and more accessible. As we now have access to many more
communicative devices, our rate of communication with others has greatly increased. But, the ways
of conversing are changing. In the past, conversationwas the exchange of ideas, sentiments,
observations, and findings through face to face interactions. Now, conversation happens through
texts, emails, and even social media. As the method of conversation has changed, has the way in
which we engage others remained the same? As our exposure to writingwith technology advances, it
is important to fully comprehend the ways in which we enter writing through a conversational lense
rather than just an individual activity. As students, writing typically carries a different and old way
of communication. Many times, students are taught how to synthesize other s work in a formal
tone. In doing so, students enter into a conversation. As they attempt to enter into this conversation
through writing, what should they expect to gain? Writers should have a specific goal and motive
in order to engage a targeted audience. Margaret Kantz, a famous author explains the importance of
developing creativity from textual sources. In fact, Kantz states that writers should have a goal of
saying something new (Kantz, 436). In doing so, writers should attempt to enter into a conversation
with the intent to leave

Hypocrisy In The Scarlet Letter By Nathanial Hawthorne
Throughout the book, The Scarlet Letter by Nathanial Hawthorne, there is much talk and criticism
of Hester. The idea of hypocrisy, the thought and claim to have moral standards but ones behavior
does not equal, is prominent in the lives of each character throughout the book. Hawthorne uses
hypocrisy as a way to display the moral of his characters and setting.
In the scarlet letter, the characters all display some sort of hypocrisy. Arthur Dimmesdale, the town

never sin, yet Dimmesdale is the other adulterer in Hester s situation. This well renowned reverend,

taking pictures our ride was here. The way our ride was looking. I could not stop smiling I was
so happy. It was an infinity limo all black with silver outlining. In the inside it was looking like a
nightclub with different color flashing lights and loud music. After saying bye to everyone so
we can leave to meet our dates and friends. Our Cameraman got in the limo with us taking more

Acetaminophen Theory
Description of Disease and Underlying theory
Acetaminophen, once ingested into the body is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract
into the blood stream where it reaches peak plasma concentration in as little as half an hour. Here,
it circulates around the body for a period of up to 4 hours during which it produces its analgesic
and antipyretic effects before the acetaminophen is metabolised and deactivated by the liver by a
possible 3 pathways: Glucuronidation, sulfation and oxidation (Show below in Figure 2). The most
commonly used pathway is the glucuronidation metabolism, closely followed by the sulfation
pathway. These methods of metabolism deactivate the acetaminophen in the hepatocytes into non
toxic conjugated sulphate and glucuronide which are excreted in the urine [23] [24]. The majority
of the initially ingested therapeutic dosage is metabolised this way, with the remaining
acetaminophen being metabolised via the third hepatic cytochrome P45 oxidase pathway, primarily
by the enzyme CYP2E1 [25]. When acetaminophen is metabolised via this method, a small amount
of a highly reactive toxic intermediate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Howard Zinn s Historian As Citizen
The essay Historian as Citizen by Howard Zinn presents a call to action for historians everywhere.
To start, he analyzes the delicate need for balance that comes with studying history, how historians
can use patterns of the past to judge contemporary events, but must not overlook the universe of
tricks outside that realm. Next, he argues we must also transcend the present and act as if we are
freer than logic may suggest. Finally, Zinn delves into the negative aspects of society s long
established blame game and submits his proposed solution. Through this text, Zinn seeks a drastic
shift in focus from antiquity to activism for historians to stop merely scrutinizing old facts but
instead use them as tools with which to examine human nature and build a better tomorrow. The
strengths of Historianas Citizen lie in Zinn s practicality. For example, one of the things he
advocates for is acting in spite of oppressive... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He writes, It is risky to act as if we are free, but (unless one is content with things as they are) it is
just as risky to act as if we are bound, and there is even less chance of reward (Zinn 45). This lays
out the options, plain and simple. One can either act and have a chance at improving quality of life,
or not act and depend completely on the even more unlikely case of outside intervention. This
points out that surrendering to logic in the face of weighty obstacles and giving up is in fact
illogical. Furthermore, he emphasizes the importance of searching within. Zinn points out, When
the United States defines the Soviet sphere as totalitarian and the West as free, it becomes difficult
for Americans to see totalitarian elements in our society (Zinn

Business Portfolio Objectives And Constraints
EXHIBIT 8: CREATING A CUSTOMISED BENCHMARK WITH BUSINESS PORTFOLIO
OBJECTIVES AND CONSTRAINTS A major stumbling point within benchmark creation is that
the mandates of the benchmark must match the mandates of the portfolio; this issue is often
raised when a portion of the portfolio is Buy and Maintain To control for this, partition the
portfolio into two blocks: Block ND is Buy and Maintain (Non Discretionary) and so the portfolio
manager should be measured by credit migration and default relative to market over portfolio
lifetime Pass Block ND to the benchmark as is the effect of this is that changes in these assets are

For example, regulated utilities will lend themselves more naturally to a Buy and Maintain
portfolio than the more volatile technology sector. This is because every business cycle is
different, and so are the relative performance patterns among sectors. Using a disciplined approach,
it is possible to construct a resilient portfolio in each environment and through every phase of every
business cycle and that offers strong full phase average performance over its lifetime. Sector
selection There are four main phases to a normal market cycle. The recovery phase often sees strong
growth, low interest rates and growth in corporate profits. Sectors sensitive to interest rates and to
economic growth such as financials, industrials, information technology, and materials should do
well. In the middle phase of the cycle, positive GDP growth, strong credit growth and healthy
corporate profitability tends to still favor more economically sensitive sectors, such as information
technology and industrials. In contrast, later in the cycle, building inflationary pressures have often
favored the energy and materials sectors, which benefit from rising commodity prices. Defensive
oriented sectors, such as healthcare, consumer staples and utilities, have also generally performed
well as the economy begins to slow, while economically sensitive sectors such as information

Epsom Salts Lab Report
Introduction:
Magnesium sulfate, MgSO4, also commonly known as Epsom salts, is generally present in
mineral water. It is used as a bath salt to relieve muscle aches and stiffness and as a laxative.
Magnesium sulfate is a hydrated salt and will lose its water if it is not in the presence of oxygen
and also through high temperatures. Magnesium ions are essential for plant growth, as they form
part of the chlorophyll molecule used to convert sunlight into chemical energy. A solution of
magnesium sulfate can be sprayed on the plant, or poured onto the soil to assist the plant with its
growth.
Through the experiment conducted the degree of hydration and percentage of hydration of the
magnesium sulfate will be determined using the process of constant mass, by heating the salt it will
allow all the water molecules to evaporate and comparing the initial and final masses.

Fifty three sketches are scattered in the 121 pages of Browns edition. The depiction of Ichabod

make assurances of whether my assignments, applications, or any other important task are done
towards completion. Whatever obstacle I face on this ever changing path of life, I always refute
the option to give in and fail. Most of those who do face these types of challenges typically give
in, quit, and find a more elementary occupation to fulfill what they could have been; however, I
had never faced a challengein which itself had made me stressed to the point of submission and of
defeat. Even if the odds are stacked against me, I do not let those odds topple over and convince
me to concede. This skill was one that I had to truly develop throughout the entirety of my life.
There were countless opportunities and influences that would have pushed towards me to recede
and let others take the chance. The reason as to why this skill is truly dear to my own being is
due to the fact that the majority of others feel content with what seems to be more simple to
complete. This is what sets me apart from everyone else who has the same aspirations likewise to
myself. This skill, unfortunately, had always suffered from negligence and had been overshadowed
by more pretentious and immediate occupations. Very few students, like myself, had given this

The Irish Influence
Throughout history, there have been many theatre companies that attempt to preserve their country
s culture through their productions, but none have done so as effectively as Ireland s Abbey
Theatre, or Amharclann Na Mainistreach . Since its opening in 1904 , the Abbey Theatre has
remained true to its original mission, To bring upon the stage the deeper emotions of Ireland.Кє This
approach has allowed them to thoroughly influence Ireland as a whole, particularly regarding
Ireland s culture, economic standing, political views, and literature. Through its creative
productions, the company has maintained the accurate portrayal of Ireland s history that it is
famous for, while still managing to inspire younger generations in Ireland to pursue careers in
theatre. Like many European countries, Ireland has a long history that has shaped it into the
country it is today. Ireland as a whole does not hide from the dark parts of their past, but chooses to
embrace and learn from these events. The Abbey Theatretakes the same approach by producing
plays that highlight these parts of the country s past. Most recently, the Abbey Theatre has produced
The Risen People, which is based on the DublinLockout in 1913 . During this time, over one third
of Ireland s population lived in slums , and Jim Larkin, union leader at the time, encouraged many
to strike in order to achieve a better life. This was and is still Ireland s largest industrial conflict,

The mental health professionals in those institutions did not recognize that these patients were not

reason why excuses have no place in medicine, and that most mental healthprofessionals do not give

Essay on Art History
In the early 1700s, the monarchies failures at finance, national debt, involvement in multiple wars
with little care given to veterans and rising unemployment inflamed the people. When coupled with
the monarchies lifestyles of lavish spending on countless mistresses, flouting morals, excessive
parties at court, and political favors, the popularity of royalty was quickly disintegrating. The
irresponsibility of the aristocracy was no longer ignored, and a movement was beginning. This set
the stage for political change.
Writers such as Thomas Hobbes (1588 1679) and John Locke (1632 1704) of England experienced
these changes and began exploring the ideals of republicanism and liberalism through their writing.
Thus, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It did not take long for the ideas to spread through Germany, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Spain,
Portugal, and the American Colonies. The American Revolution began in 1775, and Thomas Paine
wrote Common Sense in January of 1776. Voltaire who had written thousands of letters, books, and
pamphlets finished his Dictionnaire Philosophique in 1764, and the French Revolution began in
1789.
As these social, political, and moral views changed, so too did the style the arts used to
communicate life. It was during this Age of Enlightenment that the Neoclassical era in art history
began by reflecting these changing views using a style much less ornate and gilded than the
Baroque and Rococo styles that had previously dominated artistic endeavors. Strict adherence to
simple classical style with an aim to technical perfection was favored and borrowed heavily from
Greek and Roman pieces discovered earlier in the 1700s. Art was approached with the same logic
and reason of the age and with much less emotion and drama than Baroque or Rococo.
The subject matter was often dark and serious, morally and ethically upright, or heroic. Where the
aristocracy had valued drama, emotion, and grandeur, the people now valued self denial and self
sacrifice over self indulgence. The colors were often dark or solemn and made use of chiaroscuro,

Gnaeus Pompey and the fall of the Roman Republic Essay
Events which stretch as far back as the reforms of the Gracchi brothers meant that the Rome was
facing a Republic that was already deteriorating before Pompey had stepped into power. While
Pompey s quest for power was harmful, many other factors were also baleful to the Republic,
and were hence instrumental in its decline. Gnaeus Pompeius s measures to gain power were
harmful because it was primarily a paradox to the principles of being part of a Republic with all
its notions of shared and short power. The fundamental reason why there were other reasons for the
decline of the system are that the military power was given to him, the already weak Senate, and
the fact that Pompeywas not the only player in the breakdown of the Republic due... Show more

Aside from this, it also hints at the Senate s role in the harm due to its own weakness and lack of
handle on the situation by allowing for Pompey to undergo the triumph.
Though Pompey sought power by manipulating the political system to his own advantage, the fact
that the Senate was already weak and hence gave him this power. This shows that although Pompey
s actions were detrimental to the fall of the Republic, he was not the sole contributor. Pompey was
both underage and had held none of the required offices, yet the Senate passed decrees exempting
him from these traditional prerequisites, thus allowing for him to be joint consul with Crassus in 70
BC. According to Cicero, absolute power was what he had sought, and thus this ambition had
nothing to do with the happiness and honour of the community. This reveals a callously ruthless
dimension to Pompey, in that he would undertake any measure to achieve his own goals. However,
it should also be noted that Cicero s interest areas are sometimes narrow and deliberately, or
accidentally selective. By reaching the top without any previously held positions of consequence,
Pompey the Great had manipulated the political system to his own advantage. Thus, by doing so he
undermined the Senate, reiterating its insignificance and weakness.
While Pompey s political alliances were harmful to the Republican system, he evidently wasn t the

Literary Criticism Of Sonnet 18
A Literary Analysis of Shakespeare s Sonnet 18
Is it love or sunshine? Many poets have used nature in comparison to love and beauty, but
sometimes the reader questions as to what is the writer really describing? It can be hard to
distinguish between internal or physical beauty when being described in a love poem, especially
when it is written with romantic imagery. William Shakespearefounding father of poetry gives a
perfect example; in Sonnet 18 Shall I compare the to a summers day he uses metaphors and
imagery to compare his lovers beauty and nature. He points outs a few imperfections about love,
and line by line leaves you in suspense as to, what was he was really talking about? Shakespeare
starts the first line in his Sonnet with a metaphor Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? (1.). It

on someone who spends time throughout his traveling journey making choices and knowing
that making the wrong choices can t be taken back once the choices and decisions have been

A Reflection On The s The Vision Of Happiness
It s been said that If the immediate and direct purpose of our life is not suffering then our existence
is the most ill adapted to its purpose in the world . Obviously, that person was not Aristotle (unless
the entirety of Nichomachean Ethics utilizes a tone of obfuscated sarcasm typically reserved for
internet forums or pretentious asides) as he posits happiness as the ultimate human end, and
contemplation the best way of achieving it. However, both the vision of happiness he puts forth, as
well as the means for achieving it, differ widely from the typical semantics held throughout
antiquity and modernity by the listless majority. Although rather than simply explain his thought, I
intend to demonstrate how one comes to such conclusions, and so we must return to the initial
Germanic dissension. Initially, it seems difficult to argue with such an assertion. Within humanity
alone, there exists a constancy of suffering, which resonates with greater magnitude and frequency
then any other state of being. As all else decays, human suffering endures with adamant universality,
gleaming with such brightness that it outshines all other potential ends (apart from, perhaps, the
biological imperatives of preservation and procreation). Yet suffering as an end in itself seems so
morbidly facetious that it is overlooked by the willfully ignorant and the optimistically rational
alike (and since I am a meritocratic elitist, we might as well focus exclusively on the arguments

Each relationship is a development of the binary opposition between passive aggression and direct
authority as a way to abuse power. Just as Griselda s meekness is able to twist and distort Walter s
intentions, the clerk s meekness is able to twist Petrarch s intentions. Submission is a means to
power that has nothing to do with virtue or goodness. It is deeply perverting of Christian virtues
and reveals an inner sadism/masochism involving deep suffering of the self in order to control
others and resist domination, which the submissive takes pleasure in their own suffering because of
the power it grants them.
This struggle becomes apparent only when the position of the narrator to the story is understood.
The story of Griselda and Walter in the 14th century was a folktale. Boccaccio s version of the
folktale...was translated by Petrarch into Latin, (Dinshaw132). which in turn was translated into
French several times. Chaucer based his retelling of the tale on Petrarch s Latin version and an
anonymous French prose translation of Petrarch. Petrarch was the poet laureate; his sweet rhetoric
is highly stylized analogy. From a folktale, Petrarch adapted a story that, in his mind, would lead
readers to emulate the example of feminine constancy, and to submit themselves to god with the
same courage as did this women to her husband. (Dinshaw149) Petrarch s story is allegorical of
every human being s relationship with god. When the Clerk explains Petrarch s

Essay about The Human Genome Project
Genetic engineering is, at best, a debatable branch of science. For some, it is the wave of the future:
a method for perfecting the human genome, discarding flaws from infants before they are born and
ensuring they live longer, healthier lives. For others, it is an abomination: a method of
circumventing what nature gave you, and wholly unnatural. Which one is right? (Bird). Naturally,
geneticsis the scientific study of inherited variations in the DNA strand. This topic sparked curiosity
among numerous scientific individuals that they begun a research project on it titled the Human
GenomeProject. To illustrate, the Human Genome Project worked out the sequence of the three
billion chemical letters of the human genome, and it produced... Show more content on

Human genetics should be a considerable option in the future to benefit our world.
For example, gene therapy can be used to cure genetic diseases like leukemia. For instance, a
young man from Douglas, Arizona, a town boarding Mexico, underwent chemotherapy, but if he
had gone through gene therapy instead of the harmful chemotherapy radiation that could have
been performed many toils would have been prevented for the young man and his family. Gene
therapy is an experimental way of using inheritable factors to treat or prevent diseases it is also
an experimental technique that is used to substitute a gene that works right for a non working
gene. In fact, in human genetics, gene therapy is the use of genetic material as medicine
involving the transfer of working or therapeutic copy of a gene into specific cells of an
individual to repair a copy of a faulty gene. In the future, this technique may be used to allow
doctors to treat any disorder instead of using drugs or surgery by inserting a gene into a patient s
cells. Several researchers are testing numerous approaches to gene therapy, including taking out or
deactivating a mutated gene that has improper functioning, and introducing a new genetic factor
into the body that will help fight a disease. In fact, several areas of criteria must be met for the
procedure to work.
After all, many believers claim it is unethical to use this technology, genetic engineering, because

Buying Coffee From A Coffee Shop
When I think about all the purchases I make on a somewhat regular basis, the major item that
stands out the most to me is coffee. I can confidently say that a coffee from a coffee shop is an
item that I absolutely by on a daily basis. Some other items I purchase somewhat regularly, but
on a less frequent basis than a daily coffee, would be weekly or biweekly groceries. A little less
frequently I will make beauty purchases. I would say on a monthly basis I will buy hair products
and make up. Although there are many other purchase that I make within a given year, I would say
that these items are the consistent ones that I continue purchase regularly. When it comes to buying
coffee, I don t give it a whole lot of thought. I am not picky when it comes to my coffee, any kind
will do. The sole purpose of purchasing it is to give me a boost of caffeine in the morning to start
my day. I never really thought too much about how buying a coffee would have any affects on the
environment, but being forced to think about it really opens up my eyes. Coffee that people grab
on the go will either come in plastic or styrofoam. I will admit that I am guilty of not always
properly disposing of these cups in the proper recyclingbins, and I have seen first hand that I am not
alone. I never really thought about how the amount of coffee that I buy in a given year, and all of
the un recycled plastic and styrofoam could be causing environmental harm. It s not just the
chemicals that these products

The Muslim Brotherhood And Islamic Action Front
At the same time, for the purpose of using the democratic process as a strategy to implement Shari a
law, the Muslim Brotherhood named its political arm as the Islamic Action Front. Both the
Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood and the Islamic Action Front share a similar base of support and
membership. Separation between the two was necessary to allow the Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood
to maintain its control over social services and spreading dawa a, while on the other hand provide
the Islamic Action Front with the platform to establish a political agenda. Upon submitting the
application to the Minister of the Interior, that included the Memorandums of Association, and a
list of the founding member names that fulfill the conditions specified by article Five of the
Political Parties Law, in December 1992, the Islamic Action Front was officially licensed as a
political party. In total, the founding members of the Islamic Action Front consisted of three
hundred forty two older, established males and only eleven women. Demographics show a trend of
disproportionality between the founding membership and the overall population of Jordan. At the
time the Islamic Action Front movement was established, half the population of Jordan was under
the age of sixteen. But, out of the three hundred fifty three founders, 33 percent were
professionals, 51 percent were civil servants, and 10 percent were businessmen. Of these same
founders, 56 percent were over 41 years old. Due to lack of

Edward Scissorhands Character Analysis
Individuality can be an admired gift, but it is often buried under society s illogically perfect
expectations. The famous film director, Tim Burton, known for directing movies such as Edward
Scissorhands and Alice in Wonderland, proves in several thrilling adventures. He shows that
uniqueness is a strength, not a weakness, even if it means being an outcast or misfit. Through two
of his films, Miss Peregrine s Home for Peculiar Children and Edward Scissorhands, showcases the
message of identity is preferable to conformity.
An outcast is a perfect example of identity. Even if they try, they never truly fit in. Sometimes it
can be because of an awkward nature or because they are given the title goodie two shoes . But

Edward s actions speak very loudly, louder than his odd hands, dark clothing, or strange/awkward
behaviors. The show of loyalty proves Burton s message of identity. This message is also
showcased in the movie Miss Peregrine s Home for Peculiar Children. Basically, all of the
Peculiars are the outcasts of the film. When Jake first enters the loop and meets Miss Peregrine,
she says a quote that beautifully supports the message. As Miss Peregrine explains to Jake what
Peculiars are, she says, We are what s known in common towns as peculiar. Because our abilities
don t fit in the outside world, we live in places like this where no one can find us. Miss Peregrine.
This quote helps to show the audience that the misfits couldn t fit in, but as the movie continues,
the peculiars prove themselves as brave, merciful people with strong characters. In contrast, the
times we do get to see the townspeople, they seem to be reckless, moody, unstable people. The
words both sets of characters say shows just how different they are and just how much of a good
thing being an outcast can be.
The contrasting settings between the two main different places also helps to accent the difference
between individuality and conformity. Typically, in each of Burton s films, there is a dark, eerie
setting, and a bright, vivid setting. The example of vivid versus eerie settings

Pharmacy Improvement Services at Cvs
The Service Process at (CVS) The process consisted of five basic steps (refer to Figure 1), the
first being the drop off. A customer would drop off a script and write the requested pickup time
on the script itself, then put it in a box that was divided into a number of slots. These slots were
assigned to a specific time period and the tech would put the script into the slot corresponding to
the hour before the desired pickup time. The busiest times at the drop off were before work,
lunchtime, and after work. Regardless of when they dropped them off, more customers wanted to
pick up their filled prescriptions after work than at any other time. The next step would be the data
entry. Each hour, a tech would take the hour s scripts from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The problems with the fulfilment process and recommended changes An Overview The overall
problems faced during the entire pharmacy fulfilment process were that pickup window technicians
dealt with customers who did not get what they were expecting. Based on their analyses and
observations, the PSI team estimated that 16% of customers fell into this category. It was also even
more disturbing that 27% of scripts encountered a substantial problem at some point in the
fulfilment process. It should also be noted that even though CVS grew at market rates, it was only
because customers believed that no one provided great services and they thought it was difficult to
switch from one pharmacy to another. Despite this, at the start of 200, approximately 7.2 million
regular pharmacy customers left CVS during the year, causing CVS to lose an estimated 55 million
annual prescriptions that would have contributed $2.5 billion to revenue. It can therefore be seen
retaining customers should be the main agenda for CVS. This can be done through improvement in
CVS s services and operations. In order to achieve this outcome our group feels that an upgraded
computerized service system, complete with a more comprehensive database would provide the
strong foundations for a smooth business operation. The system should be able to monitor and
record logistics, inventory movements, insurance checks, customer profiles etc. Secondly, training

Chicken Pox Papers
ChickenPox
Chickenpox is a viral sickness which is characterized by red, itchy spots on the skin. It is one of
the most common infectious diseases in childhood. In children it is usually mild, however there
can be complications. When a person has chickenpox they are usually unlikely to get it after that,
but the virus remains in the body and can later cause shingles. There are a number of ways to get
shingles, and it is usually very obvious when a child has the virus. However, it is essential to seek
medical attention when the symptoms of chickenpox arise and get proper treatment.
Chickenpox is caused by the herpes virus varicella zoster and is particularly common in children
under the age of twelve ( Chickenpox ). It can be spread by contact with clothing, bed linens, and
oozing blisters, or droplets from a sneeze or cough. After being exposed, symptoms will arise
from 10 21 days after. The child is contagious 1 2 day before the rash appears, all the way until
the rash in entirely dry and scabbed over ( Children s and Parenting Health Centre ). Because
chickenpox is so contagious, children should stay home and rest until the rash is gone. ... Show

a few days along with a fever ranging from 101 degrees to 102 degrees. The virus causes a red,

body, including the scalp, arms, and legs. The rash starts out as small bumps that resemble a
pimple or insect bite. They appear in sections over 2 4 days and turn into thin blisters filled with
fluid. The blisters break and become sores, then finally scab over. Because it is so itchy, cool baths

What Are The Similarities Between Sallust And Salluse
In what is arguably one of the most infamous episodes of the Roman Republic, L. Sergius Catilina
plotted the murder of a number of senators, and planned to assume control over the Republic. The
conspiracy is the depicted in Sallust s historiography, Bellum Catilinae, as well as it is the subject
of Ciceros most famous speeches, In Catilinam I IV. Primarily, the fame of the unsuccessful
rebellion known as the Catilinarian Conspiracy of 63 B.C. stems from the comprehensible body of
work which details it, and to the surviving world, these works provides insight into the unstable
political climate of the late Roman Republic. In addition to detailing this attempted rebellion,
Sallust and Cicero also managed to create an image of the man which the conspiracy was named
after, Catiline. As a result of Cicero s and Sallust s standing as giants within the body of Western
history, the inevitable consequence of this is that the image which they constructed of Catiline is
the one which has prevailed through the centuries.
This paper will examine Catiline s characterisation in both Sallust and Cicero, compare and contrast
these, and subsequently conclude that albeit both men s descriptions of Catiline are overwhelmingly

contemporary reader, the image which is conveyed of Catiline here, by the usage of negative
connotated words such as wicked, and crooked, and unrestrained recklessness, is of villainous,

A stamping press is a machine press used to shape or cut metal by deforming it with a stamping
die. The presses in Halewood produce body parts by processing two materials, steel
(approximately 80% of the total parts) and aluminum (approximately 20% of the total parts).
Figure ? depicts the key processes of the stamping operations at Halewood. Essentially, during the
stamping operations, raw materials are transformed into vehicle body parts and to that end, each
step in the process adds value to the product. The press shop in Halewood has 10 press lines in
total, which are of three different types. Firstly, there are the tandem press lines, like Line 50 and

In the first case, the body parts are packed into stillages and are moved to the storage room for a
period of time that usually ranges between one day and two weeks as safety stock. This is the
most usual case. Secondly, some body parts produced in JLR s press shop in Halewood are
dispatched to the company s plants in Solihull and Castle Bromwich. The aforementioned plants
produce different models from the ones Halewood does. However, they have presses that do not
have the necessary capacity to produce the amount of body parts that the plant requires and
thus, those parts need to be produced in the Halewood press shop. Finally, the batch of new parts
could be sent immediately to Body in White, where the parts are welded together and start to
form the actual shape of the car. This happens less frequently, since it is the policy of JLR to
have available safety stock of body parts for at least one week ahead. The scheduling of the jobs
that are going to be moved forward in the press shop is planned based on rolling monthly forecasts
by the company s analysts. However, there are some instances when the scheduling has to be
changed, e.g. due to an unscheduled breakdown, and in that case the part which has the lowest
buffer inventory has to be sent immediately to production. This causes costly disruptions in the
planning of the stamping operations, and there is an urgent necessity for the

Social role of women
The social role and stature of women has been an eternal topic. In an age when the images of
women were expected to be associated with marriage, motherhood, and domestic matters, few
Americans could have thought of a young woman from an upper middle class family would pursue
professional study of art in Europe in the late nineteenth century. Yet, praises and critics both fall on
the young artist, Mary Cassatt (1844 1926). In this paper, I will show how two historians contrast
about the their views of this feminine artist, as well as their methodological approaches.
The first one is from Susan Fillin Yeh. In her article Mary Cassatt s Images of Woman

financial autonomy of women with interests like Cassatt s opera goer. (Second Level) The

While Yeh concludes Cassatt s images being independent modern women, Norma Broude doubts
such idea in her article Mary Cassatt: Modern Woman or the Cult of True Womanhood? , in
which she argues Cassatt s patterns of complicity and resistance. From her perspective, Cassatt
had to negotiate very carefully her relationship to this cult of true womanhood, as an atypical
professional lady painter from upper middle class. The images of happily sequestered mothers and
children supported and continue to support a conservative view of woman s nature and position,
and Cassatt s own political astuteness was responsible for this complex pattern of guarded social
resistance on the one hand and complicity on the other. She points out, that her repeated production
of happy mothers and children had been so successful might because a similar kind of social

The United States And Japan
There had been a growing outcry from the public and leaders for something to be done to reduce the
increasingly growing number of Japanese immigrants in the West Coast. Subsequent regulations
placed on the Japanese in the United States made them aggravated. There was serious trouble
brewing between the United Statesand Japan until the Japanese carried out attacks on Pearl
Harbour in December 1941. After the attack on Pearl Harbor there was increased spread of
propaganda from the press and local leaders against the people with Japanese roots. There were
numerous calls to the Congress and President Roosevelt for removal of the Japanese from the
Pacific Coast. On the 19th day of February 1942, President Roosevelt issued the Executive Order
Number 9066 (Wheeler, Becker and Glover 244). The Executive Order authorized the
evacuation of the Issei and Missei. About 120000 individuals of Japanese ancestry, both citizens
and non citizens were evacuated from the West Coast in what Lt. General John DeWitt said was
compelled by military necessity (Wheeler, Becker and Glover 244). The most convincing and
reliable evidence reveals that the removal and incarceration of Japanese Americans after Pearl
Harbor did not meet the clear and present danger test. I do not agree with the Supreme Court s
decision. During the evacuation process, Fred Korematu, a Japanese American, sought to evade the
ordeal by concealing his identity by using a plastic surgery and using a forged identity. Fred was

Cardiac catheterization is often referred to as coronary angiography or a coronary angiogram. It
is a radiographic procedure that is used to look at and visualize the heart and the coronary arteries.
During a cardiac catheterization it is possible for the cardiologist performing the procedure to see
how effectively blood is flowing through the coronary arteries. In addition, this procedure allows
the cardiologists to see how blood is moving through the chambers of the heartand how effective
the heart valves are functioning. A cardiac catheterization can also allow for the visualization of the
movement of the walls of the heart to see if the pumping action of the heart is normal. The primary

The stent will be placed where it can be expanded to hold the artery open. Some stents are
designed to simply keep the artery held open. Other stents used are drug eluting stents. These
stents are coated with pharmacologic agents that work to prevent restenosis of the artery. Another
form of PCI is artherectomy. This is a procedure that has a cardiologist using a cutting blade that
spins rapidly or a laser beam to cut away or burn away plaque that is blocking a branch of the
coronary arteries. To perform a cardiac catheterization the patient is brought to the cardiac
catheterization lab. These procedures are performed by specially trained cardiologists, nurses and
radiologic technologists. The procedure is performed on a specialized table with fluoroscopy
equipment, cardiac monitoring equipment, and the use of computerized technology to assist in data
and image collection and analysis. To perform a cardiac catheterization the cardiologist will insert a
sheath, or a short tube usually into the femoral artery. A long very thin catheter will then be fed
through the sheath and guided through the arteries until it is in the heart and coronary arteries. The
physician uses fluoroscopy equipment to guide the catheter into the coronary arteries. To allow for
clear viewing of the coronary arteries, contrast material is injected into the catheter. As the contrast
material flows through the heart chambers and coronary arteries x rays are taken. The

Stigma and cultural norms, along with poor diagnosis or medical infrastructure, could be
undermining prevalence rates, masking the amount of children that have autism in developing
countries. (Maguire, 2013)
According to the DSM 5 Autism is define as neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by
impaired social interaction, verbal and non verbal communication, and restricted and repetitive
behavior. Although we have yet to talk about autism in class I did write about it in my previous
assignment. Autism effects the processing of the brain, which tends to delay development and
language. Around cultures autism is widely known.
In the U.S. Children with ASD can grow and can learn, however it s at a different development
rate than other healthy children. Many professionals studying the field of autism can agree that
developing an appropriate community based education and treatment program for an individual
with ASD at an early age is a very important step to ensuring that the child will reach his or her
potential. Not saying that older children or adults cannot learn or develop, it just may take longer
or children may do it quicker.
Autism is considered a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first
three years of a child s life. The result of this neurological disorder affects the functioning of the
brain by slowing the development of language and cognitive processing autism and its associated
behaviors have been estimated to occur

The Leadership Styles On Display
In the workplace, there are many leadership styles on display but how do I handle working with
a manager whom I feel I cannot trust. On the other hand how do I respond differently to a
manager whom I believe is trustworthy? And, last we will discuss which do I prefer and why.
When working with a boss whom I do not trust, I tend hold back on giving them my real
opinions. I usually keep my commits, concerning day to day activities to myself. I m not sure if
they will turn my commits or opinions around and try to use it against me in an evaluation. I
also feel when your manager is not worthy of your trust, it creates a somewhat hostile working
environment because you are always looking over my shoulder to see what they are observing.
Another issue is not being able to go to them for guidance. I just close the communication line
and work on my own program, which makes my task even harder to accomplish. And I become
less creative due to the fact I don t trust my boss will be open to change. Negative emotions, like
decreased work performance, are created when there lack confidence in leaders of an
organization. Some negative emotions foster anger, depression, sadness, worry, tense, regret, and
jealousy (Zineldin M., 2012). If I m working for someone who I know doesn t have my best
interest in mind, it makes me very uncomfortable, causing me to be less productive. I will only do
the bare minimum required. It s hard to invest in someone who can t be trusted, there is an uneasy

  • 4. Neolithic Agriculture Agriculture is one of the best things that has happened to humans. For once, humans were freed from the bonds that nature had over them. Agriculture has allowed so much more efficiency in domesticating animals and plants and innovating technology. These major things have branched off into more advanced things we know of civilizations today. Before settlement, foraging was an extremely hard life to keep up. Many of the very young and very old were killed, because they could not live in a harsh environment of constantly moving around and gathering food. Foragers did not have as reliable food resources as farmers. Also, some foods are seasonal. Growing food meant that there could be a surplus to last through times of the year when food was not being grown. The neolithic era was a popular time for people to start establishing organized religions and sharing ideas in a more orderly fashion, whereas foragers shared among their groups. Forager groups kept large ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Foragers had a varied diet but these food were not always around. Many archaeologists believe that foragers were healthier than farmers, because they were less exposed to disease and had more nutrition. It is also speculated that without agriculture, social inequality would not have became a problem. This is simply untrue, because man has a way of wanting to be over each other and after a long time, somebody would inevitably end up as a leader. Since people had been hunting and foraging for so long, they became very skilled at it. After a while, 75% of big game went extinct. Think of how many more animals would have gone extinct if domestication and herding had not been introduced. There might not have been any animals left to hunt by this time if hunting at their extent had continued. William Howells is utterly flawless in his argument that agriculture is one of the most important things that has happened to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Recording Of Sound Recorded By Edouard Leon Scott De... Since its infancy during the nineteenth century, the art of sound recording has been profoundly affected in countless ways by inventors, scientists, and sound engineers. From the invention of the phonograph to the computers of today, they have all made contributions to the foundation of sound recording. Going forward, technologists in today s computer age are becoming more and more creative. There has even been proof that some researchers have had a hand in altering the course of history. With that in mind, the following questions need to be addressed: How was the recording of sound discovered? What technologies were implemented to improve the science? How has today s digital age affected sound recording? Was history really altered? Is there any debate? How was the recording of sound discovered? According to history, the first sound was recorded mechanically by Г‰douard LГ©on Scott de Martinville (de Martinville) in 1857 on a machine called the phonautograph (and). His device would record sound by using a vibrating membrane that was attached to a pen (stylus) which drew a line in correspondence to sound waves onto a smoked paper roll attached to a rotating drum (and). The sounds were generated by vibrating diaphragm and a series of levers that moved the diaphragm from side to side (and). Even though de Martinville was able to duplicate sound, his machine was not able to play it back right after it was recorded (and). He made his machine this way because his intensions ... • 7. Summary Of Lost In Translation By Lera Boroditsky Lost in Translation In Lost in Translation, Lera Boroditsky writes to people within businesses or people who are wanting to invest in companies that work with other countries. She writes to inform and tell the reader that if getting involved with other countries you need to know what to expect. The examples she provides in her article show that languagein some countries does differ from others, but it isn t like that in every country. She writes to inform business people what they need to know before they get involved with other countries. This is why this article is published in the Wall Street Journal, Boroditsky wants all business companies to know what to expect before they get involved. Throughout the article I pulled out rhetorical choices that make the article what it is. Lera Boroditsky credibility shows through past references, significance to audience, statistical jargon through logos, and personal anecdotes. In the beginning paragraphs, the article begins with a past reference and the example is based off of a saying that everyone knows. It goes with this article perfect because it is a universal quote and the article is always discussing how language is universal. Humpty Dumpty sat on a ... Even this snippet of a nursery rhyme reveals how much languages can differ from one another... In English, we have to mark the verb tense... (Boroditsky 437) Within other countries and their grammar there are little things that are different. If someone was reading this in Australia they may say something different than what we say. It is important that the audience knows this because it makes an impact on how things may be presented in another country. Having this past reference, it gives the reader the inside on what the author is explaining. When the verb tense is affected it changes the outcome of the situation that is described. Depending on what language is being presented to the audience. The next example s rhetorical choice is a form of statistical jargon that is using logos. Through this quote we get to understand the facts and what is being presented. There is universal grammar for all human languages... don t really differ from one another in significant ways. Oranges are Not the Only Fruit and the two letters in The Color Purple The Chapter Joshua in Oranges are Not the Only Fruit and the two letters in The Color Purple, where Sofia returns and later gets brutally punished for her confrontation, both explore fundamental issues that characterize a lot of the essence of both novels as a whole. At the heart of both of these two sections is the idea of fighting for the truth and facing the consequences. Although Oranges are not the Only Fruit is written in a retrospective light and The Color Purple in epistolary and consecutively in chronological order, there are similarities within the two styles, they use similar techniques in getting across certain issues. She controls this idea with I m about to become a buyer. i.e. She is going ahead with her truth and is purchasing herself, rather than letting others buy it and dictate to her. Sofia also went ahead with her fight, but came to a more tragic conclusion than Jeanette. Both deal with betrayal, in the sense that Janet s mother buries her belongings and that Sofia has to deal with racial hatred. Of course Sofia s is far more fundamental and it is more of having to deal with hate than betrayal. There are some people who feel that gas is the only pressure washer worth having. Other people feel that they could not live without their electric pressure washer. Which one is best for you? Here is why you may decide to choose one over the other. Electric Powered Pressure Washers With an electric pressure washer, you will experience both pros and cons. The pros include the fact that it can be very powerful. Some electric pressure washers are up to 2000 PSI. However, they remain quiet. They are heavy, but they often have wheels to help you with portability. These pressure washers do require you to perform maintenance on it. However, if you keep up with the routine maintenance, they may last you for many years. These pressure washers are more powerful than the electric ones. Some of the higher end pressure washers can have up to 4,000 PSI and still be available for homeowners instead of commercial use. The downside is, in most cases you will pay more for a gas powered pressure washer. Sometimes, even for a small pressure washer, you may expect to spend $150 more for a small gas powered pressure washer. This combined with the fact you have to buy detergents, gas, oil, and other things makes some people choose to go with the electric powered pressure washers. The problem with the extra price is mostly based on the fact that you may spend $250 on a gas powered pressure washer or spend $100 on an electric pressure washer and end up with about the same PSI. This happens because to spend that little on a gas powered machine, you will be purchasing a low end gas powered pressure washer. If you spend $100 on an electric, you should be getting a middle to high end cleaning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Of Mice And Men Movie And Book Comparison Essay Multitudes of well known films are derived from novels; however, despite the majority of the accurate depictions, these adaptations contain several varying scenes as compared to the book. For example, John Steinbeck s novella Of Mice and Men and the 1992 movie version share similar elements, yet the movie strays from the original source material. While the portrayal of the characters are accurate, certain important segments are added or deleted. Therefore, despite the correspondence of the 1992 Of Mice and Men movie to the novella, they re not exact representations of one another. While movie adaptations often have inaccurate portrayals of the novels characters, the Of Mice and Men movie is one of the exceptions. The Things They Carreid by Tim O Brien Essay From Vietnam to Paper Taking place in the middle of the Cold War Era, the Vietnam War was a war not only over land but for many a battle to protect democracy and to fight communism. However, following the Vietnam War one author, who served in the war, decided to take up the task and make an historic account of one of them most grueling wars ever fought. Tim O Brien is a Vietnam veteran who wrote the novel The Things They Carried. Also, the soldiers are referred to as legs or grunts , which symbolizes their role in the war. The role, according to O Brien, to march for the sake of the march (O Brien). According to an interview by Jack Smith, Tim O Brien states that My hope was that by imposing certain technical requirements on myself, I would end up as a consequence with an interesting, compelling, and fresh way of telling a story (Smith). His use of symbolism does in fact give a refreshing take on storytelling and is a vital role in relating the reader to the story. Without symbolism the story would be a very different, less interesting one. In the story titled The Man I Killed O Brien reflects on the events leading to and following his killing of a Vietnamese soldier via a grenade. He goes on to tell the reactions of his platoon mates as well as his own. The explosion of the grenade left the Vietnamese soldier s face burned and unrecognizable. This symbolizes the life of so many of the thousands of dead Vietnamese soldiers that too were killed and consequently buried. These dead soldiers went unidentified and failed to bring their respective families closure. O Brien struggles to cope with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Corruption In Developing Countries Despite the real efforts made, there has been little concrete progress to date. In most developing countries today, corruption is widespread and part of everyday life. Society has learned to live with it, even considering it, fatalistically, as an integral part of their culture. Not only are public or official decisions for instance, on the award of government contracts or the amount of tax due bought and sold, but very often access to a public service or the exercise of a right, such as obtaining civil documents, also has to be paid for. Several mechanisms help to spread corruption and make it normal practice in these countries. Civil servants who refuse to toe the line are removed from office; similarly, businessmen who oppose it are penalised vis Г vis their competitors. Furthermore, an image of the state has grown up over the years according to which the civil service, far from being a body that exists to implement the rights of citizens rights that mirror their duties is first and foremost perceived as the least risky way of getting rich quickly. All of which helps to make corruption seem normal. In practice, it is the environment in which public servants and private actors operate that causes corruption. Public administration in developing countries is often bureaucratic and inefficient. And a large number of complex, restrictive regulations coupled with inadequate controls are characteristic of developing countries that corruption helps to get around. But ... • 22. Acetaminophen Theory Description of Disease and Underlying theory Acetaminophen, once ingested into the body is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract into the blood stream where it reaches peak plasma concentration in as little as half an hour. Here, it circulates around the body for a period of up to 4 hours during which it produces its analgesic and antipyretic effects before the acetaminophen is metabolised and deactivated by the liver by a possible 3 pathways: Glucuronidation, sulfation and oxidation (Show below in Figure 2). The most commonly used pathway is the glucuronidation metabolism, closely followed by the sulfation pathway. These methods of metabolism deactivate the acetaminophen in the hepatocytes into non toxic conjugated sulphate and glucuronide which are excreted in the urine [23] [24]. The majority of the initially ingested therapeutic dosage is metabolised this way, with the remaining acetaminophen being metabolised via the third hepatic cytochrome P45 oxidase pathway, primarily by the enzyme CYP2E1 [25]. To start, he analyzes the delicate need for balance that comes with studying history, how historians can use patterns of the past to judge contemporary events, but must not overlook the universe of tricks outside that realm. Next, he argues we must also transcend the present and act as if we are freer than logic may suggest. Finally, Zinn delves into the negative aspects of society s long established blame game and submits his proposed solution. Through this text, Zinn seeks a drastic shift in focus from antiquity to activism for historians to stop merely scrutinizing old facts but instead use them as tools with which to examine human nature and build a better tomorrow. One can either act and have a chance at improving quality of life, or not act and depend completely on the even more unlikely case of outside intervention. Writers such as Thomas Hobbes (1588 1679) and John Locke (1632 1704) of England experienced these changes and began exploring the ideals of republicanism and liberalism through their writing. The American Revolution began in 1775, and Thomas Paine wrote Common Sense in January of 1776. Voltaire who had written thousands of letters, books, and pamphlets finished his Dictionnaire Philosophique in 1764, and the French Revolution began in 1789. As these social, political, and moral views changed, so too did the style the arts used to communicate life. It was during this Age of Enlightenment that the Neoclassical era in art history began by reflecting these changing views using a style much less ornate and gilded than the Baroque and Rococo styles that had previously dominated artistic endeavors. Strict adherence to simple classical style with an aim to technical perfection was favored and borrowed heavily from Greek and Roman pieces discovered earlier in the 1700s. Art was approached with the same logic and reason of the age and with much less emotion and drama than Baroque or Rococo. • 34. Gnaeus Pompey and the fall of the Roman Republic Essay Events which stretch as far back as the reforms of the Gracchi brothers meant that the Rome was facing a Republic that was already deteriorating before Pompey had stepped into power. While Pompey s quest for power was harmful, many other factors were also baleful to the Republic, and were hence instrumental in its decline. Gnaeus Pompeius s measures to gain power were harmful because it was primarily a paradox to the principles of being part of a Republic with all its notions of shared and short power. The fundamental reason why there were other reasons for the decline of the system are that the military power was given to him, the already weak Senate, and the fact that Pompeywas not the only player in the breakdown of the Republic due... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aside from this, it also hints at the Senate s role in the harm due to its own weakness and lack of handle on the situation by allowing for Pompey to undergo the triumph. Though Pompey sought power by manipulating the political system to his own advantage, the fact that the Senate was already weak and hence gave him this power. This shows that although Pompey s actions were detrimental to the fall of the Republic, he was not the sole contributor. Pompey was both underage and had held none of the required offices, yet the Senate passed decrees exempting him from these traditional prerequisites, thus allowing for him to be joint consul with Crassus in 70 BC. According to Cicero, absolute power was what he had sought, and thus this ambition had nothing to do with the happiness and honour of the community. This reveals a callously ruthless dimension to Pompey, in that he would undertake any measure to achieve his own goals. However, it should also be noted that Cicero s interest areas are sometimes narrow and deliberately, or accidentally selective. By reaching the top without any previously held positions of consequence, Pompey the Great had manipulated the political system to his own advantage. Thus, by doing so he undermined the Senate, reiterating its insignificance and weakness. While Pompey s political alliances were harmful to the Republican system, he evidently wasn t the only player in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Reflection On The s The Vision Of Happiness It s been said that If the immediate and direct purpose of our life is not suffering then our existence is the most ill adapted to its purpose in the world . Obviously, that person was not Aristotle (unless the entirety of Nichomachean Ethics utilizes a tone of obfuscated sarcasm typically reserved for internet forums or pretentious asides) as he posits happiness as the ultimate human end, and contemplation the best way of achieving it. However, both the vision of happiness he puts forth, as well as the means for achieving it, differ widely from the typical semantics held throughout antiquity and modernity by the listless majority. Although rather than simply explain his thought, I intend to demonstrate how one comes to such conclusions, and so we must return to the initial Germanic dissension. Initially, it seems difficult to argue with such an assertion. Within humanity alone, there exists a constancy of suffering, which resonates with greater magnitude and frequency then any other state of being. As all else decays, human suffering endures with adamant universality, gleaming with such brightness that it outshines all other potential ends (apart from, perhaps, the biological imperatives of preservation and procreation). Yet suffering as an end in itself seems so morbidly facetious that it is overlooked by the willfully ignorant and the optimistically rational alike (and since I am a meritocratic elitist, we might as well focus exclusively on the arguments made by ... The Clerk s Tale struggles with the subversive power inherent to passive submission, showing how it enables an inferior to exert control over those who cannot be dominated through direct means because of their complete and unquestioned authority. In the context of The Clerk s Tale, Griselda and Walter have a very strange relationship in which a confusing powerstruggle develops out of Griselda s complete submission. Submission is a means to power that has nothing to do with virtue or goodness. It is deeply perverting of Christian virtues and reveals an inner sadism/masochism involving deep suffering of the self in order to control others and resist domination, which the submissive takes pleasure in their own suffering because of the power it grants them. This struggle becomes apparent only when the position of the narrator to the story is understood. The story of Griselda and Walter in the 14th century was a folktale.
