To Kill a Mockingbird Compared with Jasper Jones
Introduction Prejudice refers to the judgements towards a person because of their race, social class,
age, disability or sexual orientation. (Cherry, What is Prejudice? ) Prejudice was, and still is, to a large
extent experienced by people all over the world. It is a theme that is presented in so many works of
literature in a plethora of different ways. One of the most prominent ways in which prejudice is
explored is through the use of characters that perhaps are a different nationality or have a different
orientation to the majority of the other characters in the works. Two texts, in which the theme is
presented in an admirable way , are To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and Jasper Jones by Craig
Silvey. Through the use of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only through the use of Tom Robinson as a character and his unjust trial, but also through the use
of the Finches coloured housekeeper, Cal, and the prejudice against Boo Radley because of his past
crimes. Tom Robinson has done nothing wrong yet is still accused and even Atticus Finch, Tom s
lawyer, knows nothing can be done to defend a black man against two dishonest whites. The children s
naivety plays an important role in presenting the theme of prejudice in the book, especially the
narration and how Scout, Jem, and Dill did not truly understand what was happening at the time,
which creates an almost dramatic irony in the fact that the reader is able to comprehend more than the
characters created by Lee.
At the end of the novel much light is shed on the fact that one should not judge a book by its cover and
that no matter what race, or social standing a person has there is room for the opportunity to be good
or bad. This can be seen through Atticus Finch stating that the family could not stand one day without
their black housekeeper, despite the juxtaposing character of his sister s best efforts to get rid of her. It
can also be seen through the Ewell family. They are a white family that have money and a social
standing in the town. Bob Ewell is an evil man who drinks away the family s money. His character is
foreshadowed by his son, Burris, and the abhorrent

Nonpermanent Members Of The United Nations
On October 24, 1945, the five victors of World War II assembled in San Francisco to draft a document
called the Charter of the United Nations, which outlined the laws of the United Nations. This charter
created six different branches of the UN. One of the six organs was the UN Security Council. The
Security Council was assigned the task of ensuring that international peace and security is maintained.
The SC consists of fifteen total members whom are also members of the United Nations. The Union of
Soviet Socialist Republics, the Republic of China, the United States of America, the United Kingdom
of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and France act as the five permanent members of the United
Nations because they were the original victors of the Second World War. The remaining ten
nonpermanent members of the UN are elected by the General Assembly for a two year term. Each
member of the UN Security Council is allowed only one representative.
Diving more in depth about how the UNSC ensures that international peace and security is
maintained, it is important to understand how the Security Council operates. The charter states that,
the Security Council shall act in accordance with the purposes and principle of the United Nations.
(Article 24) When it comes to the topic of voting, decisions of the Security Council procedural matters
shall be made by an affirmative vote of nine members. (Article 27) The Security Council has the

The Use Of Cell Phone Use
It is known that the use of cell phones, specifically handheld use such as texting, while driving
decreases driver awareness and the overall safety of roads. In response to this knowledge, some states
have passed laws that have outlawed the usage of handheld devices, and while there should be laws
that definitively outlaw handheld usage, is there enough empirical evidence to outlaw hands free usage
of cell phones? In other words, does handsfree usage of cell phones, via bluetooth, speakerphone, etc.,
distract drivers enough to the point where states should legally ban the total use cell phones while
driving. The following essay will introduce arguments for both sides of this topic, one for hands free
cell phone usage and the other against cell phones usage entirely. Hands free cell phone usage should
not be used while driving based on evidence that shows that the use a cell phone while driving leads to
more driving mistakes and overall lack of awareness (Sanbonmatsu et al., 2015). Drivers that use cell
phones make more serious and minor errors, but cannot recall making these errors due to a lack of
awareness. These drivers are more unaware of their inconsistent speed, placement in lanes and near
accidents than those that are not using a cell phone. Additionally, these drivers are less likely to self
regulate their driving efficiently like drivers not using cell phones because of this lack of awareness.
This reduction in self regulation moreover leads to an increase in both minor and major errors
(Sanbonmatsu et al. 2015). To determine this, Sanbonmatsu et al. (2015) gathered participants and
split them into either a control/no cell phone group and an experimental/cell phone group. These
participants were then tested in a driving simulator with the control group simply running through the
simulator while the cell phone group called a friend or family member and had a conversation on a
hands free device. The results of this experiment indicated that even though the control group did still
make errors, they had more awareness of those errors than the experimental group, and made less
serious errors than the experimental group. Other evidence against hands free cell phone use while
driving is simply that hands

Bench Press is one of the three work outs we will be discussing in the manual. Out of the three work
outs covered in this manual (performed at the PSU Abington gym) bench press, deadlift, and squat
bench press is the hardest to fully master. This work out will test upper body strength and power.
There are benefits from mastering or trying to master bench press: Bench press helps the upper body
gain muscle and get stronger. Finding a technique that works the best can make benching much easier
for the lifter. People who bench press with the wrong technique will lead to injuries. Injuries can take
time to heal, some people might take up to one week to heal. With the right instructions and technique
there will be no major injuries while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some reasons why injuries occur is because of poor positioning and poor training.
Some quick tips:
Improve bench press technique
Fix posture
Balance muscle
Neck: Make sure lower back and neck are supported properly. Avoid exercises that require arms to go
above the head. Strengthen upper back and improve posture when working out. Make sure to stop any
exercises that causes pain in the neck. Take frequent breaks when this happens and stretch frequently.
Some quick tips:
Stretch neck
Do not raise arms above head
Strengthen muscle around shoulder blade
Instructions for performing a Bench Press
While it is true that it is a great exercise, the bench press isn t the best choice for many lifters and,
unfortunately, the majority don t know how to actually perform it correctly (Smith). Some people do
not know how to bench press correctly. When it is done wrong then there will be serious injuries.
IMPORTANT: Always have a spotter when doing bench press. A spotter is someone who stands
behind and watches the person bench. They also make sure that the person is able to lift that much
amount of weight and if the person cannot lift that amount of weight then the spotter will help the
person. The spotter is there to make sure the person on the bench does not get stuck or fails to finish.

Westward Expansionsion During The Westward Expansion
Westward Expansion During the westward expansion many important events happened. The Pony
express was one of them it was a mail delivery system. Another very important event was the
Transcontinental railroad, it was the first train track ever made! Both of these events were very hard to
accomplish but we did accomplish them so that was good. Pony Express The Pony express was a mail
delivery system, that started in April, 1860 and used a team of a person and a horse to deliver mail to
people. People that wanted mail delivered to someone could put their mail in a little cubby and a
mailman would come pick it up and deliver it to the place the person wanted it to be delivered to. The
process of delivering mail on the Pony express took about 10 days. Although, it was much faster than
any other way of delivering mail. Traveling The mailmen had to travel 2,000 miles through St. Joseph,
Missouri, and Sacramento, California, just to deliver mail! Some people died while they were
traveling but some people survived. The mailmen had a lot on their hands, because they had to make
sure the mail they had was being delivered to the right place, also they had to face the challenge of
going across 3 states on horseback. One of the hardest things they had to do was sleep outside and
fight wild animals.Even though traveling might have been hard, the mailmen got through it, and today
we as the people appreciate that.

The Mortality Rate Of Sex Workers Essay
Regarding the mortality rate of sex workers, One study found that workplace murder risk is 51 times
greater [for prostitutes] than for the next most dangerous profession which is operating a liquor store
(Dir. J. K. Wasson and J. Wells). Because prostitution is ultimately seen as a consensual profession,
some may interpret this information with indifference, believing that the sex workers were willing
participants. More often than not, however, sex workers are being coerced into the industry by some
form of force; leading them to be exploited for physical and economic gain. In order to convince
someone that the prostitution industry influences the victimization of women, I would need to
counteract the notions endowed onto us by society that lead people to believe that prostitution is a fair
system. Ethnomethodology, Symbolic interaction, and conflict theory have contributed to the the false
impression of sex workers endorsed by the mainstream.
Ethnomethodology is the study of everyday actions of people as an expression of their reality. Every
reality contains five features that describe how one s perspective is maintained and occasionally
transformed. In order to change the reality of people who believe that sex workers are independently
engaging in prostitution, I would need to address the five features of reality. The first feature,
reflexivity, states that reality is maintained by the process of absorbing interactions and bending them
to fit one s incorrigible

Women In Aldous Huxley s A Brave New World
Aldous Huxley foresaw a great number of feats in his novel, but it seems that he saw no kind of
liberation for women at any point in the near or distant future. In fact, despite the dystopic nature of
Huxley s novel, he instead created a futuristic world that is hauntingly similar to our own. The only
difference being that Hover cars actually do exist. Upon first glance, the story seems liberating,
uplifting, and in every sense of the word, futuristic. But as you delve further into the novel you
become blinded by the blatant misogyny that holds this dull, unadventurous story together. Brave New
World is predictably centred around Alpha plus rebels, the over privileged men who fight the system

If you were to walk into any government, court house, or police firm, you would find an
overwhelming amount of men filling up positions more times than not. You might say that oh, but men
are more fitted to those jobs! Women don t know how to be a police officer, judge, prime minister, but
that s only because we have never been given the chance. And if, like Julia Gillard perhaps, we do
happen to break through the misogynistic barriers of society, we would be relentlessly ridiculed, even
if we were more successful than any man before us. But Huxley s lack of femme fatale doesn t stop
him from portaying the few female characters in a non favourable way. The only memorable female
characters in the book, Lenina and Linda, were both semi perfectly conditioned Betas, which gives the
impression that women are single sided and lack distinguishing characteristics. What s more is that
Huxley doesn t mention a single female Alpha plus nor World Leader; apparently the top of the food
chain is not where women belong. The Alpha plus males of Huxley s novel seem to be the only ones
rebelling against the New World order. They are the only group capable of being unhappy,
unorthodox, and rebellious. And they are definitely the only ones praised for those very things.
Despite the caste system and the belief that everyone is happy now, the elites of Huxley s book are
still trying to break the barrier. Even though they are the most privelleged people in society. They re

Epaphroditus had also desired to return to Philippi but was sick and dying. The Lord healed

principles of ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards were used as guidelines. In completing our work,
we mainly focused on the following points of attention:
Are the objectives, scope, and boundaries of the study clearly identified?
Does the study employ a sufficiently comprehensive set of environmental indicators? Are these
indicators relevant for the hospitality sector?
Are the assumptions used clearly identified and reasonable?
Are the sources of data clearly identified and representative?
Is there sufficient analysis of the sensitivity and uncertainty of the results?
Is the report complete, consistent, and transparent?
Are the conclusions appropriate based on the data and analysis?
Objectives and scope of the study
The various objectives of the study are stated in section 1 in a clear way. ACCOR s decision to

Going to school and trying to afford it can be a financially draining experience, and I know that from
experience. Our government has made many relevant changes thus far to better support students, but
much more can still be done. With rising tuition costs and not enough government aid, more and more
students are forced to take out loans in order to pay for continuing education. These loans later
become a huge financial burden, some totaling near $30,000. If the dream of a college education is

trained than people with only high school diplomas ... if there is a large enough number of [people]
with college degrees, employers don t have to bother with people who don t have them (Leef 29). That
being said, I wonder how young people are expected to obtain some sort of degree, when higher
education is nearly impossible for some families to afford. Although very significant changes have
been made by our government offering improved financial aid to current and future students, more can
still be done. Our politicians could increase the Pell Grant maximum to coincide with rising tuition
costs, increase taxes on irrelevant goods and services to provide students with more direct funding, set
up a reward system that would place more responsibility on the students (rather than themselves), and
most importantly, our two main parties in office need to agree on specific changes.
Appropriate steps have been made by our politicians towards offering enhanced financial support for
students.

Colleen exhibits her ability to suggest better ways to do work by testing, demonstrating and training
for using the AMS batch artwork work capabilities. She encourages others to try this capability to help
them improve efficiencies when approving multiple (single page) art work. Colleen is willing to try
new ideas, take calculated risks and learn from failure. An example of this is her work with the system
core team to revamp both the AMS and DAM system training. She solicited feedback from others and
observed what resonated with the attendees to make these changes. She took risks on how to present
the training and continues to make adjustments to make it more engaging and impactful for our system

Unknown A was NaCI because when looking at this unknown solutions flame and NaCI s flame they

3. The metallic atoms change from a liquid state to a gas state during the flame test. Is this a physical
or a chemical change? Explain. This is a chemical change because a new color is created and it is
exciting the electrons. Burning is a chemical reaction because there is a new substance being created.
There is also a color change and that is another way to tell that it was a chemical reaction. A new
substance was made this is why it was a chemical change. If you take ice for example and melt it turns
into a liquid. This is not a chemical change because it is still water just in a different form nothing new

Morality In Parks And Recreation
Modern day television is entertaining, thrilling, mysterious, and comical. However, morality

Try not to be cruel, be honest, don t say things that might confuse or hurt like bringing back the past or
the reasons why you want to end it. Be prepared for any reaction, the dumped can react since he or she
didn t see it coming. You should try to be comforting but not too attach but also don t just storm out of
there. For both of you to have a chance to move on, you should avoid each other and if you have each
other s thing try to sort it out so you both won t have an argument. The best lesson of a failed
relationship is to learn from it and don t let it repeat it. Also know when to walk away, why be
bickering about a lost cause. After the break up don t try to stay friends, you wanted to end it for a
reason so why go back when you can keep moving forward. Take some time for yourself since not
everyone understands that the one who broke up is also in pain as the one who was dumped. Because
you re the one taking the bullet and it s true since you might feel guilt and even though you want to go

Descriptive Essay On A Little Accident

dad just sighed and ignored her. I craned my head to see out the window, the entire window was filled
with skyscrapers, so tall I couldn t see the sky. It struck me with wonder as I whipped my head from
side to side, trying to take it all in. Molly was mimicking me, she looked around, taking in her new
environment. I turned around to see how my brother, James, was reacting. He, unsurprisingly, was
asleep. Eventually, we pulled over and got out of the car. This area was quieter than the rest, but still
loud. I knew we must be in Brooklyn now. You could still hear bustle of the city, but it faded into the
background, a white noise. I stepped onto the sidewalk. I stared up into the sky. The buildings were
much taller than I imagined. The city smelled of cigarette smoke, the tinge of not quite fresh air. My

The narrator lays out all the information to us as they see it and they tell the story how they want it to

An hour and a half is not a lot of time to catch up for three years of lost time. There is almost no
dialogue between the two in the whole story, except for when they first meet and when they part ways.
The only mention of the two talking in the middle of the story is when Charlie s father talks to him
about baseball. Baseball though, is probably one of the only things that the two may have in common
at this point, but the way it is put into context some people would think that Charlie s father doesn t

The goals of this environmental justice conference are stated simply: firstly, to explore whether racial
minorities and the poor are being environmentally victimized, and secondly, to evaluate public
policies that promote environmental fairness. Each speaker provided insight and information from
their respective area of expertise. Led by keynote speaker Dr. Bunyan Bryant, they drew upon the
realms of academic investigation, government and public policy, sociology, healthcare, and

Compare And Contrast The Mobilisation Of Fats And...
The percentage of energy supplied for the body s energy needs by fats and carbohydrates varies at 0
minutes, 5 minutes and after 45 minutes of a marathon. The biochemical events that occur at these
time points will be evaluated in terms of the mobilisation of fats and carbohydrates, the pathways each
takes to produce energy and their yield in producing Adenosine triphosphate (ATP).
Fats and carbohydrates differ in their structure, energy yield and the way they are stored in the body.
For these reasons, they are not used equally by the body; and one predominates over the other at
different times in a marathon. The structure of fats consist of one glycerol molecule bound to three
fatty acid chains via ester bonds, and are termed triglycerides. ... Show more content on

Glucagon acts on the liver and muscles to initiate glycogenolysis. Glycogen phosphorylase
phosphorylates a terminal glucose molecule to form glucose 1 phosphate (G1P) and depletes ATP to
ADP, and is exergonic. Phosphoglucomutase converts G1P to glucose 6 phosphate (G6P). In muscles
G6P would enter the glycolytic pathway, however the liver must release glucose into the blood. G6P
enters the endoplasmic reticulum of liver cells and is converted to glucose by glucose 6 phosphatase,
after which it is released into the blood for adsorption by other cells. The glycolytic pathway consists
of 10 steps divided into 2 phases: preparatory and pay off. Step 1 is the phosphorylation (ATP to ADP)
of glucose to G6P by hexokinase and Mg2+ as a co factor, ΔG ˚= 16.7 KJ/mol (exothermic). In step 2
G6P is converted to fructose 6 phosphate by phosphohexose isomerase and Mg2+, the ration is
endergonic (ΔG ˚=1.7KJ/mol). Fructose 1,6 biphosphate is produced from the phosphorylation of
fructose 6 phosphate by phosphofructokinase 1 and Mg2+ in step 3. This reaction is exergonic due to
ATP hydrolysis (ΔG ˚=14.2KJ/mol) and is irreversible. In step 4 fructose 1,6 biphosphate is cleaved
by aldolase to form dihydroxyacetone phosphate and glyceraldehyde 3 phosphate in an endergonic
reaction (ΔG ˚=23.8KJ/mol). In step 5 dihydroxyacetone phosphate is converted to glyceraldehyde 3
phosphate by triose

Web Usablity Analysis Essay
Introduction
I have chosen Kiplinger s business website to conduct a web usability analysis. Interactive design is an
evolutionary process, when you take identified problems, visions, needs, and wants reported by user
feedback, then incorporate or fix, and further evaluate to refine and increase the success of a given
product. In this case the product is a website. Sharp, Rogers Preece, (2007) said this about iterative

The Pros And Cons Of Lean Manufacturing
Introduction: The idea behind the lean manufacturing is to work relentlessly on eliminating waste by
the end of the manufacturing process. As stated by Cirjaliu and Draghici, (2016), lean manufacturing
works as a collection of a number of tools, techniques and tips that proves effective for driving the
wastes generated during the manufacturing process. Lean manufacturing as it is also known as Toyota
Production System is one of the most basic and systematic form of waste elimination system.
Lean manufacturing has become one of the most acceptable forms of manufacturing technique among
the various manufacturers. The aim of the report is to analyze the advantages and limitation of the lean
manufacturing process. A detail analysis of the system will be done by referring to a number of
scientific journals based on the same topic.
Analysis of the production technique: Lean production is all about gaining more by doing less, such as
less time, limited fund and labor and also within a small space. Thus, five major areas that drive the
lean manufacturing process are its quality, cost, kind of delivery, safety and morale. By the means of
lean manufacturing, a number of advantages can be achieved. These advantages are:
 Reduction of waste by 80%
 Production cost is reduced by almost 50%
 Flexibility of the system increases
 Labor cost gets reduced by at least 50% (Bhamu Singh Sangwan, 2014)
 Capacity of the current facilities increases by 50% as well

Participation Awards Should Be Banned
The notion of participation awards in childhood activities have raised a spark debate; while awarding
each child with a uniform trophy supports equality, what s there to say about the detrimental effect on
motivation if everyone is labeled a winner? The expectation of an award or certificate, in conclusion
to any activity, is viewed as a guarantee; often, they serve as the sole motivation point for those
uninterested in the activity itself as they re aware they ll be a winner regardless. This inflated sense of
self worth brought upon by miniscule awards, most especially participation, leaves children
unprepared for adult life as a functioning member of society. While generous in thought, participation

who simply fail. This is an accepted thought amongst nations such as Brazil, China, India, and
Lebanon. The culture of these nations believes that there are no rewards for doing what is expected of
you. Simply showing up does not warrant you an award of any kind, it s the unique work ethic and
efforts you push yourself to achieve that result in success. For example, the culture of India places a
high importance on education; there are no rewards in place for students that simply show up to class
every day, which is merely an expectation you must uphold. In the United States, school systems
reward their students with participation trophies at the end of the year for merely showing up! The
award culture in the U.S. has altered the expectation of success within the nation; the younger
generation feels they re entitled to much more than they are possibly responsible enough for. The
culture of Middle Eastern, and Asian nations execute an entirely different expectation of success;
awards are reserved for those who exhibit unique traits and actions, not to those that simply participate
by showing up. These up and coming nations are quickly replacing America in several industries,
which is perhaps due to award system they have in place that only celebrate those that work

Dugard s book demonstrates the experiences she faced in captivity and show her personal story about
sexual abuse.Jaycee Dugard was kidnapped and forced in captivity for eighteen years. Dugard was
locked up in a soundproof concealed room and was often raped. As a result of her alienation towards
the outside world, Jaycee felt unloved, fearful and depressed. Even though a forced rape causes a
negative impact on a person s brain, Dugard kept a positive attitude to surpass the negative situation.
She forced herself to be hopeful of the future and to survive an intolerable situation. Dugard s personal
story provides an example of the child abuse that existed in the 1990 s. The following quote from
Twelve Years A Slave, Northup, the main character, shared his story as a slave and how the experience
powered the human spirit and determination of hope. Solomon Northup was an African American
slave who was kidnapped and was sold into slavery. The slave is degraded, made to suffer
punishments and disintegrated physical and emotionally. By doing slavery the master is spiritually
distressed and relieves his frustrations over the slave. However, Northup never gave up, even during
the worst days of sorrow live under the cruelties of Edwin Epps, he never lost hope to gain freedom.
Northup s journey is inspiring because its is an inspiration for many people. This is an

Evaluation Of An Anonymous Questionnaire
The nurse educators of each unit will also have valuable input and would be responsible for
implementing, supporting, and enforcing the use of the checklist. Selected nurses from each unit,

perspectives on what would be necessary and reasonable to be included in the checklist. Support from
these representatives of each position will further assist in successful implementation of the project.
This same team should also be responsible for gathering feedback, evaluating results, and determining

forth, one must have the ability to create and communicate a vision, put together a team with the
requisite skills, set strategies, and empower and motivate others to achieve the desired ends (Porter O

Contributions Of The Vikings, Polynesians, And The...
The Vikings, Polynesians, and the Phoenicians explored vast areas around the world. They were
motivated to trade and conquest areas of the unknown. These groups of people traveled without any
modern technology and they still managed to arrive in hard to reach places around the globe. Many
people wonder what motivated these talented explorers to discover and create what they did. The
Phoenicians traveled to places such as, Spain, Africa, and Scilly Isles. They explored places that were
beyond the traditional safe limits in the Mediterranean and into the Atlantic. The Phoenicians were
driven to trade things for silver in Spain, Africa s wide variety of gold, and tin from Scilly Isles. These
people were also credited with the achievements of many new nautical inventions. Their life was full
of exploring new places, and that benefitted their people very much. Exploration was the reason for
many new advancements in this time. Masters of the sea, is the name given to the Phoenicians for
their ability to push beyond the limits of traditional exploration. They were able to explore the seas
with their ships built out of cedar wood logs. The Phoenicians were famed in antiquity for their ship
building skills, and they were credited with inventing the keel, the battering ram on the bow, and
caulking between planks. (cite 1) They had three types of ships. The one they used most often was for
trading; It had wide, big bellied hulls They were never short of supplies due to the

How Did Napoleon Bonaparte Change
Napoleon has done a lot of work changing France. Napoleon has changed the military, the church,
education, and societies freedoms. Many people ask, which did he change or reform the most? Well,
Napoleon made more changes to the government than anything else. The government of France after
Napoleon was drastically different than before he gained control. The government went from a
monarchy to an empire and Napoleon ruled as the emperor. Napoleon made two parliaments, elected
officials, and on top of it all he kept himself from being removed. Education must have been important
in Napoleon s eyes because it was changed a lot also. Napoleon built an abundance of new schools for
boys called lycées intended for young men ages ten to sixteen. ... Show more content on

Napoleon s strategy was to control the bishops and if he controlled them he could control the church,
he did pick the bishops and had them approved by the pope. This may not seem like a major change
but it was important. This is one of the examples that shows how much control Napoleon had over
France. The French freedoms of society was one of the great changes that Napoleon was known for.
King Louis had absolute power and could not be removed, he had no national assembly or parliament.
Napoleon ruled as emperor and could not have his power taken away from him. Napoleon created two
national assembly or parliaments with members chosen by Napoleon, but from the candidates voted
on by the people. All men could vote, until 1804 when there were no more elections. All of the laws in
France were made by assemblies. French rights for society were changed a good bit by Napoleon. The
prison and court systems were officially different, in that you could only be put in prison after a trial
and a jail worthy charge, and everyone was officially equal. Nobles no longer had special rights that
others did not. But there were still restrictions under Napoleon s rule. Napoleon had a secret police
that could arrest people without a trial. Napoleon tried to censor and control the newspapers, and free
speech was not slowed in France or the French

Because I Could Not Stop for Death and I Heard A Fly Buzz...
Death is a controversial and sensitive subject. When discussing death, several questions come to mind
about what happens in our afterlife, such as: where do you go and what do you see? Emily Dickinson
is a poet who explores her curiosity of death and the afterlife through her creative writing ability. She
displays different views on death by writing two contrasting poems: one of a softer side and another of
a more ridged and scary side. When looking at dissimilar observations of death it can be seen how
private and special it is; it is also understood that death is inevitable so coping with it can be taken in
different ways. Emily Dickinson s poems Because I Could Not Stop for Death and I Heard A Fly Buzz
When I Died show both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These words help the poem illustrate a pleasing and peaceful experience of departing from this world
by comparing it to a setting sun. The transition to her new world was gentle and kind.
I Heard a Fly Buzz When I Died is more ridged and scary when it comes to explaining death. The
narrator is looking at death from the afterlife while seeing the more frightening side of death. This
poem s setting stays entirely in the room. In the beginning of the poem, the fly is disturbing the
stillness in the room (Belasco 1331). The stillness in the room means she is dying alone with no
family or friends. The start of the poem explains how there was no peace in the death by comparing it
to a storm. It can be felt that the speaker is waiting for her death as they can hear the fly buzz like
when you hear a clock tick as you wait for time to pass. Since the character has to wait for her
departure, it shows she is experiencing a slow death. The fly buzzing plays an important role because
it shows the advancement of death. Dickinson shows the progression of death by enhancing the last
sense noticed before death when she focuses on hearing the smallest details in her surroundings. As
the narrator is nearing her death, she can hear things that the normal average individual wouldn t
notice. The fly distracts the narrator s final moments and upsets her peaceful death. The earthly fly in
the end stands between the narrator and the calm spiritual aspect of death. In the

The Role Of Bread In Japanese Economic History
Food of Efficiency : The Role of Bread in Japanese Economic History from the 1910s to the 1960s
The history of bread in Japan began in the early Meiji Period, when Kimuraya Sohonten, a Tokyo
bread store, opened and invented Anpan, a popular sweet bread with red bean paste inside.
Approximately one hundred and fifty years have passed since then. In these 150 years, Japan s
numerous social changes have shifted and redefined the role of bread in the Japanese diet. Frist, bread
was a popular novelty food and a status symbol until the beginning of the 20th century . Between the
1910s and the 1960s, bread functioned as a food of efficiency and eventually became one of the main
staple foods in Japan. Form the 1970s to the present, bread has reformed into a form of snack in the
Japanese daily diet . While appreciating the delicate contemporary bread snacks , one might also
notice the contrast between bread s role as snack now and its role as a food of efficiency before. How
did bread become a food of efficiency, and what was the significance of this part of the history of
bread in Japan? From the beginning of World War I in the 1910s to Japan s Economy Miracle in the
1960s, bread served as a food of efficiency and the history of bread in Japan closely reflected the
country s industrialization and economy growth. Bread started its transformation into one staple food
of Japan in the 1910s. Japan had won the First Sino Japanese War and the Russo Japanese War in the

Effects Of Parental Addiction On Children
THE EFFECTS PARENTAL ADDICTIONS HAVE ON CHILDREN
Alexis Holcomb
The cost of alcohol and substance abuse in the United States reaches heights of four hundred eighty
four billion dollars per year ( Magnitude ). That s about seven hundred eighty times the amount it cost
to diagnose and treat sexually transmitted diseases in the year 2000 (Chesson). The sole purpose of
this is not to persuade you one way or the other on this topic. Nor is the purpose to apologize for this
social issue. The purpose of this writing is to employ data showing the societal effects parental
addictions have on children, to show how this data has remained relevant in society, and to show how
it is affecting our future members of society.
In this paper, I look at forms of substance abuse and the effects on children. I will be using the
following headings to break down the different issues associated with this social problem: social
causes, phenomenon, and consequences. I hope to educate those that may be ignorant to the situation,
and help to spark a flame that can be used to not be a bystander, but a solution to the problem at hand.
Social Causes
An estimated twenty five percent of youth under eighteen are exposed to familial alcohol abuse
(Bellum). The Illinois Department of Human Services says that nearly six hundred seventy five
thousand children per year suffer serious abuse or neglect as a direct result of substance abuse (
Children ). What makes this a big problem in society?

Electric Hybrid Energy Storage Systems
Abstraction
The energy storage technology is quite important for electric hybrid vehicles and pure electric vehicles
due to requirement of more power and more efficient with minor compromise on weight and volume.
The challenge for developing more advanced energy storage system is capacity or energy density and
specific power cannot be achieved at the same time. More specific power means less energy density,
and vice versa. The supercapacitor Li ion hybrid energy storage system has both advantages of these
two kinds of energy storage technology. It has high energy density as well as high specific power. The
paper will introduce about this hybrid energy storage system, discuss about its advantages and
drawbacks, and compare this system with other kinds of energy storage systems.
Keywords: Supercapacitor, Lithium ion battery, hybrid energy storage system 1. Introduction
Currently, electric hybrid vehicles and pure electric vehicles attract more and more people s attention.
The benefits of electric hybrid vehicles and pure electric vehicles are less fuel cost, less emissions,
less maintenance etc. But there are still many drawbacks such as higher price, less space in electric
hybrid vehicles, require recharging everyday on plug in hybrids and pure electric vehicles, limited
mileage per recharging in pure electric vehicles etc. There are many engineering challenges along with
these drawbacks. One of them is energy storage technology. In recent electrified automotive markets,

Behavior Analysis Principles
Conceptually consistent programs within behavior analysis are those programs that use the principles
of operant learning theory. Sensory integration and mindfulness therapies are not conceptually

  • 2. To Kill a Mockingbird Compared with Jasper Jones Introduction Prejudice refers to the judgements towards a person because of their race, social class, age, disability or sexual orientation. (Cherry, What is Prejudice? ) Prejudice was, and still is, to a large extent experienced by people all over the world. It is a theme that is presented in so many works of literature in a plethora of different ways. One of the most prominent ways in which prejudice is explored is through the use of characters that perhaps are a different nationality or have a different orientation to the majority of the other characters in the works. Two texts, in which the theme is presented in an admirable way , are To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and Jasper Jones by Craig Silvey. Through the use of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only through the use of Tom Robinson as a character and his unjust trial, but also through the use of the Finches coloured housekeeper, Cal, and the prejudice against Boo Radley because of his past crimes. Tom Robinson has done nothing wrong yet is still accused and even Atticus Finch, Tom s lawyer, knows nothing can be done to defend a black man against two dishonest whites. The children s naivety plays an important role in presenting the theme of prejudice in the book, especially the narration and how Scout, Jem, and Dill did not truly understand what was happening at the time, which creates an almost dramatic irony in the fact that the reader is able to comprehend more than the characters created by Lee. At the end of the novel much light is shed on the fact that one should not judge a book by its cover and that no matter what race, or social standing a person has there is room for the opportunity to be good or bad. This can be seen through Atticus Finch stating that the family could not stand one day without their black housekeeper, despite the juxtaposing character of his sister s best efforts to get rid of her. It can also be seen through the Ewell family. They are a white family that have money and a social standing in the town. Bob Ewell is an evil man who drinks away the family s money. His character is foreshadowed by his son, Burris, and the abhorrent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Nonpermanent Members Of The United Nations On October 24, 1945, the five victors of World War II assembled in San Francisco to draft a document called the Charter of the United Nations, which outlined the laws of the United Nations. This charter created six different branches of the UN. One of the six organs was the UN Security Council. The Security Council was assigned the task of ensuring that international peace and security is maintained. The SC consists of fifteen total members whom are also members of the United Nations. The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, the Republic of China, the United States of America, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and France act as the five permanent members of the United Nations because they were the original victors of the Second World War. The remaining ten nonpermanent members of the UN are elected by the General Assembly for a two year term. Each member of the UN Security Council is allowed only one representative. Diving more in depth about how the UNSC ensures that international peace and security is maintained, it is important to understand how the Security Council operates. The charter states that, the Security Council shall act in accordance with the purposes and principle of the United Nations. (Article 24) When it comes to the topic of voting, decisions of the Security Council procedural matters shall be made by an affirmative vote of nine members. • 4. The Use Of Cell Phone Use It is known that the use of cell phones, specifically handheld use such as texting, while driving decreases driver awareness and the overall safety of roads. In response to this knowledge, some states have passed laws that have outlawed the usage of handheld devices, and while there should be laws that definitively outlaw handheld usage, is there enough empirical evidence to outlaw hands free usage of cell phones? In other words, does handsfree usage of cell phones, via bluetooth, speakerphone, etc., distract drivers enough to the point where states should legally ban the total use cell phones while driving. The following essay will introduce arguments for both sides of this topic, one for hands free cell phone usage and the other against cell phones usage entirely. Hands free cell phone usage should not be used while driving based on evidence that shows that the use a cell phone while driving leads to more driving mistakes and overall lack of awareness (Sanbonmatsu et al., 2015). Drivers that use cell phones make more serious and minor errors, but cannot recall making these errors due to a lack of awareness. These drivers are more unaware of their inconsistent speed, placement in lanes and near accidents than those that are not using a cell phone. Additionally, these drivers are less likely to self regulate their driving efficiently like drivers not using cell phones because of this lack of awareness. This reduction in self regulation moreover leads to an increase in both minor and major errors (Sanbonmatsu et al. 2015). To determine this, Sanbonmatsu et al. (2015) gathered participants and split them into either a control/no cell phone group and an experimental/cell phone group. These participants were then tested in a driving simulator with the control group simply running through the simulator while the cell phone group called a friend or family member and had a conversation on a hands free device. The results of this experiment indicated that even though the control group did still make errors, they had more awareness of those errors than the experimental group, and made less serious errors than the experimental group. Other evidence against hands free cell phone use while driving is simply that hands ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Westward Expansionsion During The Westward Expansion Westward Expansion During the westward expansion many important events happened. The Pony express was one of them it was a mail delivery system. Another very important event was the Transcontinental railroad, it was the first train track ever made! Both of these events were very hard to accomplish but we did accomplish them so that was good. Pony Express The Pony express was a mail delivery system, that started in April, 1860 and used a team of a person and a horse to deliver mail to people. People that wanted mail delivered to someone could put their mail in a little cubby and a mailman would come pick it up and deliver it to the place the person wanted it to be delivered to. The process of delivering mail on the Pony express took about 10 days. Although, it was much faster than any other way of delivering mail. Traveling The mailmen had to travel 2,000 miles through St. Joseph, Missouri, and Sacramento, California, just to deliver mail! Some people died while they were traveling but some people survived. The mailmen had a lot on their hands, because they had to make sure the mail they had was being delivered to the right place, also they had to face the challenge of going across 3 states on horseback. One of the hardest things they had to do was sleep outside and fight wild animals.Even though traveling might have been hard, the mailmen got through it, and today we as the people appreciate that. ... • 9. The Mortality Rate Of Sex Workers Essay Regarding the mortality rate of sex workers, One study found that workplace murder risk is 51 times greater [for prostitutes] than for the next most dangerous profession which is operating a liquor store (Dir. J. K. Wasson and J. Wells). Because prostitution is ultimately seen as a consensual profession, some may interpret this information with indifference, believing that the sex workers were willing participants. More often than not, however, sex workers are being coerced into the industry by some form of force; leading them to be exploited for physical and economic gain. In order to convince someone that the prostitution industry influences the victimization of women, I would need to counteract the notions endowed onto us by society that lead people to believe that prostitution is a fair system. Ethnomethodology, Symbolic interaction, and conflict theory have contributed to the the false impression of sex workers endorsed by the mainstream. Ethnomethodology is the study of everyday actions of people as an expression of their reality. Every reality contains five features that describe how one s perspective is maintained and occasionally transformed. In order to change the reality of people who believe that sex workers are independently engaging in prostitution, I would need to address the five features of reality. The first feature, reflexivity, states that reality is maintained by the process of absorbing interactions and bending them to fit one s incorrigible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Women In Aldous Huxley s A Brave New World Aldous Huxley foresaw a great number of feats in his novel, but it seems that he saw no kind of liberation for women at any point in the near or distant future. In fact, despite the dystopic nature of Huxley s novel, he instead created a futuristic world that is hauntingly similar to our own. The only difference being that Hover cars actually do exist. Upon first glance, the story seems liberating, uplifting, and in every sense of the word, futuristic. But as you delve further into the novel you become blinded by the blatant misogyny that holds this dull, unadventurous story together. Brave New World is predictably centred around Alpha plus rebels, the over privileged men who fight the system but meet their fortunate downfall at some point ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you were to walk into any government, court house, or police firm, you would find an overwhelming amount of men filling up positions more times than not. You might say that oh, but men are more fitted to those jobs! Women don t know how to be a police officer, judge, prime minister, but that s only because we have never been given the chance. And if, like Julia Gillard perhaps, we do happen to break through the misogynistic barriers of society, we would be relentlessly ridiculed, even if we were more successful than any man before us. But Huxley s lack of femme fatale doesn t stop him from portaying the few female characters in a non favourable way. The only memorable female characters in the book, Lenina and Linda, were both semi perfectly conditioned Betas, which gives the impression that women are single sided and lack distinguishing characteristics. What s more is that Huxley doesn t mention a single female Alpha plus nor World Leader; apparently the top of the food chain is not where women belong. The Alpha plus males of Huxley s novel seem to be the only ones rebelling against the New World order. They are the only group capable of being unhappy, unorthodox, and rebellious. And they are definitely the only ones praised for those very things. Despite the caste system and the belief that everyone is happy now, the elites of Huxley s book are still trying to break the barrier. Even though they are the most privelleged people in society. Our government has made many relevant changes thus far to better support students, but much more can still be done. With rising tuition costs and not enough government aid, more and more students are forced to take out loans in order to pay for continuing education. These loans later become a huge financial burden, some totaling near $30,000. Our politicians could increase the Pell Grant maximum to coincide with rising tuition costs, increase taxes on irrelevant goods and services to provide students with more direct funding, set up a reward system that would place more responsibility on the students (rather than themselves), and most importantly, our two main parties in office need to agree on specific changes. Glucagon acts on the liver and muscles to initiate glycogenolysis. Glycogen phosphorylase phosphorylates a terminal glucose molecule to form glucose 1 phosphate (G1P) and depletes ATP to ADP, and is exergonic. Phosphoglucomutase converts G1P to glucose 6 phosphate (G6P). In muscles G6P would enter the glycolytic pathway, however the liver must release glucose into the blood. G6P enters the endoplasmic reticulum of liver cells and is converted to glucose by glucose 6 phosphatase, after which it is released into the blood for adsorption by other cells. The glycolytic pathway consists of 10 steps divided into 2 phases: preparatory and pay off. Step 1 is the phosphorylation (ATP to ADP) of glucose to G6P by hexokinase and Mg2+ as a co factor, ΔG ˚= 16.7 KJ/mol (exothermic). In step 2 G6P is converted to fructose 6 phosphate by phosphohexose isomerase and Mg2+, the ration is endergonic (ΔG ˚=1.7KJ/mol). Anthropology Personal Narrative It all began on July 5, 2015, when my family and I traveled back from Fort Davis, Texas, to our home in Gardendale, Texas, after visiting our family for a Fourth of July celebration. As we entered into Odessa, we noticed vehicles stranded on the interstate that impeded our progress. Irritably, we were forced to stop in the middle of the road. Instantly, the music paused. In frustration, I started switching the stations; nevertheless, all remained silent. After several minutes of scanning dead air, finally the radio connected to the station, 93.3 FM. An emergency broadcast announcer alerted the entire Permian Basin area that a group of oil drillers, near the Meteorite Crater, struck a barrel, buried twenty two feet under the ground. ... Participation Awards Should Be Banned The notion of participation awards in childhood activities have raised a spark debate; while awarding each child with a uniform trophy supports equality, what s there to say about the detrimental effect on motivation if everyone is labeled a winner? The expectation of an award or certificate, in conclusion to any activity, is viewed as a guarantee; often, they serve as the sole motivation point for those uninterested in the activity itself as they re aware they ll be a winner regardless. This inflated sense of self worth brought upon by miniscule awards, most especially participation, leaves children unprepared for adult life as a functioning member of society. In developing nations, there are winners and losers; there are people who succeed in life, and people who simply fail. This is an accepted thought amongst nations such as Brazil, China, India, and Lebanon. The culture of these nations believes that there are no rewards for doing what is expected of you. Simply showing up does not warrant you an award of any kind, it s the unique work ethic and efforts you push yourself to achieve that result in success. For example, the culture of India places a high importance on education; there are no rewards in place for students that simply show up to class every day, which is merely an expectation you must uphold. In the United States, school systems reward their students with participation trophies at the end of the year for merely showing up! The award culture in the U.S. has altered the expectation of success within the nation; the younger generation feels they re entitled to much more than they are possibly responsible enough for. The culture of Middle Eastern, and Asian nations execute an entirely different expectation of success; awards are reserved for those who exhibit unique traits and actions, not to those that simply participate by showing up. These up and coming nations are quickly replacing America in several industries, which is perhaps due to award system they have in place that only celebrate those that work exceptionally ... Many people ask, which did he change or reform the most? Well, Napoleon made more changes to the government than anything else. The government of France after Napoleon was drastically different than before he gained control. The government went from a monarchy to an empire and Napoleon ruled as the emperor. Napoleon made two parliaments, elected officials, and on top of it all he kept himself from being removed. Education must have been important in Napoleon s eyes because it was changed a lot also. Napoleon s strategy was to control the bishops and if he controlled them he could control the church, he did pick the bishops and had them approved by the pope. The French freedoms of society was one of the great changes that Napoleon was known for. King Louis had absolute power and could not be removed, he had no national assembly or parliament. Napoleon ruled as emperor and could not have his power taken away from him. Napoleon created two national assembly or parliaments with members chosen by Napoleon, but from the candidates voted on by the people. All men could vote, until 1804 when there were no more elections. All of the laws in France were made by assemblies. French rights for society were changed a good bit by Napoleon. The prison and court systems were officially different, in that you could only be put in prison after a trial and a jail worthy charge, and everyone was officially equal. • 45. Because I Could Not Stop for Death and I Heard A Fly Buzz... Death is a controversial and sensitive subject. When discussing death, several questions come to mind about what happens in our afterlife, such as: where do you go and what do you see? Emily Dickinson is a poet who explores her curiosity of death and the afterlife through her creative writing ability. She displays different views on death by writing two contrasting poems: one of a softer side and another of a more ridged and scary side. When looking at dissimilar observations of death it can be seen how private and special it is; it is also understood that death is inevitable so coping with it can be taken in different ways. These words help the poem illustrate a pleasing and peaceful experience of departing from this world by comparing it to a setting sun. The transition to her new world was gentle and kind. I Heard a Fly Buzz When I Died is more ridged and scary when it comes to explaining death. The narrator is looking at death from the afterlife while seeing the more frightening side of death. This poem s setting stays entirely in the room. In the beginning of the poem, the fly is disturbing the stillness in the room (Belasco 1331). The stillness in the room means she is dying alone with no family or friends. The start of the poem explains how there was no peace in the death by comparing it to a storm. It can be felt that the speaker is waiting for her death as they can hear the fly buzz like when you hear a clock tick as you wait for time to pass. Since the character has to wait for her departure, it shows she is experiencing a slow death. The fly buzzing plays an important role because it shows the advancement of death. Dickinson shows the progression of death by enhancing the last sense noticed before death when she focuses on hearing the smallest details in her surroundings. As the narrator is nearing her death, she can hear things that the normal average individual wouldn t notice. The fly distracts the narrator s final moments and upsets her peaceful death. The earthly fly in the end stands between the narrator and the calm spiritual aspect of death. In the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Role Of Bread In Japanese Economic History Food of Efficiency : The Role of Bread in Japanese Economic History from the 1910s to the 1960s The history of bread in Japan began in the early Meiji Period, when Kimuraya Sohonten, a Tokyo bread store, opened and invented Anpan, a popular sweet bread with red bean paste inside. Approximately one hundred and fifty years have passed since then. In these 150 years, Japan s numerous social changes have shifted and redefined the role of bread in the Japanese diet. Frist, bread was a popular novelty food and a status symbol until the beginning of the 20th century . Between the 1910s and the 1960s, bread functioned as a food of efficiency and eventually became one of the main staple foods in Japan. Form the 1970s to the present, bread has reformed into a form of snack in the Japanese daily diet .
