1. Radio News Review
For this assignment we had to create three news stories of things we consider to be of interest to
college students. To generate ideas I discussed topics with my teacher and chose appropriate topics
that I would find interesting to do. I chose to interview Richard Lee on the world record attempt and
I also interviewed Neil Hayden on the new sports pitch and Lorna about Valentine’s Day in college.
The story with Neil and Richard would mainly attract the sports students whilst the Valentine’s day
story would relate to the whole college.
Once I decided my stories I had to firstly write up a script, for this I used Microsoft Word. On these
scripts I had to write down some questions. This was probably the most important aspect of the
project, planning is crucial to any successful interview. I used college sound kits in order to record
the actual interview itself. Once the interview had taken place and I recorded it I would upload it to
the PC and edit it using REAPER.
In my first interview with Neil I noticed that the final new story itself was too long and I should have
cropped it down a little bit more. On the whole the interview went well and was a success first time
with no problems. The purpose of the news story is to help inform all students what is actually going
on the sports pitch especially students with cars whom spaces have been taken up by work men.
This story would probably be classed as a serious story and is informative. I thought I spoke quite
well during this interview; I didn’t mumble my words I spoke clearly and concisely.
In my second interview with Richard Lee I noticed that the volume level was higher than what it
should have been, this meant that the final news story was a bit crackly but nonetheless you can still
easily listen and understand the interview. Apart from that this was probably my best structured
interview,it consisted of good suitable questions with solid straight to the point answers. This new
story isn’t really of a serious nature but for those that are interested in volleyball this will contain all
of the information they should require.
On my third and final interview with Lorna about Valentine ’s Day I firstly spoke to her and wrote
down what she told me and then recorded myself telling the facts. I did this one a bit differently to
the previous two but I do think this was the easiest one to do. This story consisted of good sound
volume throughout and was actually a good story. The story wasn’t really as serious as the one with
Neil but like on the interview with Richard Lee, for the people that required information about
Valentine’s Day on college the information was all in there.
