1. Overall Review of My Three News Stories Lydia Cooke
For my first news story it had to be copyonly, which means there isn’t any type
of interviews that are included. A copyonly news story involves the speaker
telling the audience factual information. My copyonly story was based upon the
Crufts 2015 Dog Show, and how one of the most successfuldog competitors
was poisoned after the competition. This story was serious and informative and
my target audience were college students. When recording this story I used a
serious tone of voice to fit the style of the story. I kept a calm tone of voice yet
loud and clear to make my story understandable and informative. When editing
this news story in reaper, special software designed for voice editing and
creating various things, I made the sound much louder than it was originally. I
did this as I wanted to ensure my news story sounded professional, clear and too
a good quality. However I did not crop or cut any of the recordings as I thought
it was already good the way it was. When rendering my news story I also
ensured he quality level was at its highest point.
For my second news story I choseto do a voicer. A voicer news story is where
an interview is conducted between me and another. For this news story I
interviewed a highly educated nurse about how alcohol abuse in young people
can affect the community and the young people themselves. I choseto interview
a nurse as nurses obviously deal with young people attending hospital after
drinking too much on a night out; a nurse was my best sourceof reliable
information for my audience. I wanted to find out what affect too much alcohol
could have on a person 18 or younger and how exactly does it affect the
community for example in expenses. The style of this news story was serious,
informative and educational. My target audience for this story too was also
college students, as they need to be aware of what alcohol can do to the body.
As I was interviewing Amelia, I asked her serious questions that required more
than a yes or no answer. The way I asked them were formal, and made myself
sound interested in what she was about to tell me. When editing my news story I
cropped sections out as there were dead air, and also some stuttering that needed
to be deleted to achieve that professional style I wanted. The raw audio did have
quite a few moments where we spokeover each other and ‘um’ and ‘ar’
however whilst editing I cropped these bits out as it would of made my news
story informal. To edit this story I again used Reaper. I then rendered this story
to the highest quality.
2. For my third story I conducted a live cross. This type of news story entails a
interviewer introducing the topic, then live crossing to the sources of
information. These people could be in different locations or in the same location
as the interviewer. My news story was based on the 2015 election, and how the
outcome may have an effect on young people, especially students. I interviewed
three different students who all had different opinions on politics. They all
supporting different parties, and stated their opinion on who should run the
country. My target audience for this story was again college students, as this
information is beneficial to them. The style of this story was formal, educational
and serious. The students I interviewed were all in different parts of the college,
therefor did not discuss with each other their opinions. I also interviewed a
fourth person however the recording that I conducted didn’t seem to be any use
to me when it came to editing the final story. When I recorded my introduction I
want to sound upbeat, and not too serious. When editing my news story I simply
made the volume as loud as possible, and also cut sections of dead air I didn’t
need, I used Reaper to do so.
After completing all three news stories I decided I would be ideal to receive
some feedback from people in my class. I played my final stories and most
responses I got were all positive. My stories were very suited to the audience,
and also I delivered all three stories in a professional manner, I spokeclearly
and openly. However if I had to do this assignment again I would reconsider the
amount of time I have to complete these stories, and manage my time better. I
would also consider editing my news stories more. Also I may of added
background music to my stories, for example the Crufts Show news story, I feel
as if this story could have been made better. However overall I feel I have
completed my news stories to a professional level, and achieved what I set out
to achieve.
