Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Radio News Review
For this assignment we were set with the task to create 3 news stories that would relate to a
target audience that are round the college age range. To start off my work I began by
brainstorming ideas for news stories. Came up with 5 stories and narrowed them down to 3 final
choices.
I decided to do my first news story on the new metro link that is being put in place through
Eccles. I felt like this story was acceptable for the target audience I was aiming at (College
Students). This is because it affects the way they get to college and their daily lives. I felt that I
approached the story at the right angle viewing the traffic rather than the actual metro link itself
this would keep my audience enticed as the story is directly aimed at them. To make the story
more legitimate I interviewed student Danny Watt to get an insight into what the audience feels
about the metro link being built. This gives the story credibility and reinforces the fact that I may
give later on. I feel like the editing of my story went very well as there were no gaps or blank
spaces. The story and the interview went together quite nicely and created a well edited piece
of work. I felt as if the story was too long for a short new story, to improve this I could have
taken the interview and cut it up into sections. Then I could have used the interesting/factual
part of the interview to shorten the story whilst still giving a detailed story that would be
enticing to the audience
For my second story I chose to do a local story about a mum and child who were involved in a
hit and run scenario. I gained a lot of information and facts from online and put them together
to create a short snappy story. This allows me to get a lot of information out in a short period of
time. I aimed the story at the mother and child and what they had been through also their
situation right now. The edit of the news story was quite simple as the recording was done in
one take. All that needed to be cut out was the gaps at the start and the end of the clip so there
is no dead air and the story is cut quickly. I chose to turn down the volume levels as I felt like I
talked too loudly and would uninterest the audience into the listening as it would be hurtful to
the ears. I would not change anything else with the news story as it is short and concise and
gives the information needed for the listener to become interested.
Finally the third story I chose was to create a story on the Media Berlin Trip that will commence
later this year. I used the students and tutor in my class to gather information and create
interviews that go towards the final edit of my story. I did not use the interviews because they
did not fit in the final edit. I did the story in one take and quoted what they had said this allows
me to change the way I present the story to the audience so if any complications comes into
play then I can change the idea. The final edit like story 2 was quite simple with a few quick cuts.
I believe that the story came out very well as I spoke clearly with detailed factual information
that the audience could take and share with other people.
