1. Questionnaire Analysis
I have created a questionnaire to gain both qualitative and quantitative data from a
primary source to gain more information on what the participants would want to see
in our short film.
There is a broad range of ages that
have completed the questionnaire
which means the video is less likely
to be directed at a specific age
group. We have to assume the
responses do not link to the age of
those who respond so that we can
create a video will be enjoyed by
those who completed it. The largest
groups are at a younger age
therefore the responses may link to
this. This means a short film may
include aspects as suggested by the
market research, are more likely to
be enjoyed by a younger audience.
More females than males
completed the questionnaire
however to get the largest
number of people watching the
film I feel that the film should be
targeted towards both male and
female. However we will have to
consider that the quantitative and
qualitative responses come from
female participants.
The not at all box was not selected
by any participant and I will assume
that most people represented by
the participants watch films at least
occasionally. This means they are
more likely to be interested in a
featurette as a way to find out more
about the movie they are going to
watch or have watched.
2. All the categories have been
selected. I used tick boxes so that
they could select as many
categories as they wanted;
therefore it is more accurate to
what films they watch. Comedy
has been selected more than the
other genres and is therefore the
most significant. This therefore
shows that we should either link
the short film to the comedy
genre or include aspects of
comedy to make it more
preferable to the target audience
represented. There are a number
of ways we could do this using the
script and particular camera
shots.
I also allowed more than one
category to be selected for this
question as most people will
watch movies in a variety of
different places. Television,
Cinema and DVD has been
selected. The video will not be
shown in these way however it
shows the quality of film people
will expect. Therefore we could
use high quality filming, such as
HD. Online also has a significant
response therefore showing the
film will still be watched if placed
on YouTube.
This is an important question because it shows
whether someone would watch a featurette. Yes is
the largest response however the no category
suggest elements other than behind the scenes
information should be included. This is why it
would be an improvement to include comedy
aspects as a way of gaining a wider target
audience.
3. This question allowed people who
said they would not watch a
featurette to respond that they are
not interested in any behind the
scene fetures however most people
still selected a category. This tells us
to include major elements of a
featurette such as interviews with
the cast, behind the scenes footage.
The outtakes relate to the comedy
genre so we could include shots or
scenes that represent this special
feature.
This was the main
qualitative
question which
gives further
insight into why
people will watch
a particular
special features
which relates to
the content of a
featurette. For
4. instance the response about cast interviews including “They give more detail about their
role” shows that there is a purpose to including it in our short film which is to reveal more
information about the film to the audience. Another response includes seeing the actors out
of character. This will be interesting to include because there will be a contrast between the
film and behind the scenes.
