The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

1. Pilot questionnaire
For the pilot questionnaire we have asked a small
selection of people to answer the questions we made
in order to see their effectiveness and any
improvements that could be made before releasing it
to a larger audience.
2. Would you prefer the documentary to
be…
Both interview based and cinematography gather the same votes and a balance of both
gathering the most votes. For this reason alone it looks like we will definitely have an
equal amount of both interviews and cinematic filming.
4. Would you prefer the ending to be
conclusive or open
The majority voted for a open ending which I feel will go better with our documentary.
The idea of creativity is different to everyone and the creative industries is so vast
creativity can never really been defined as one thing. So an open ending would perhaps
suit this idea better than a conclusive ending.
5. Who would you prefer to have
interviewed
The option of both has won, but is closely followed by industry professionals, for this
reason we have decided to have more industry professionals interviewed and then
perhaps only have the odd casual person to give us their view on the subject. This
will also be better for our target audience who will prefer the theory that the
industry professionals such as Gauntlet will be using.
6. What style of presentation would you
prefer?
The answers to this question where not what we expected. For our style of
presentation we would prefer to have no narration which did come second in the
rankings but was behind on narration. Narration may has been outvoted by no
narration because it is conventional in many documentaries and also because the
we have not provided any context to the questionnaire which is something I will
come onto later in the presentation. I believe that narration will not suite our style
of documentary but instead text based or no narration would be better, allowing the
interviewees to talk and reach the viewers on a more personal level than the voice
of god feeling that narration gives
7. Is creativity important?
Unsurprisingly yes is the clear winner within this question. Highlighting that our
documentary has a potential to appeal to many of those involved in anything creative.
8. The definition of creativity
We thought that it would be nice to ask
the respondents to give us their
definition of creativity here are a few of
their answer…
9. Radio: Question 1
This question asked the audience whether they would prefer to have the radio advert as
an indirect message or a direct message. The results show that the vast majority of those
we asked decided that a direct advert would be more suitable. We also agree with this
result as after enitial research into this subject area did suggest that a quick direct advert
is more effective as it will grip the audience more than that of an indirect advert.
10. Should the advert include background
music?
The majority of the people said that background music should be used within the radio
advert. The background music in some way will be associated with the documentary
whether that be choosing the same song as one which we use in the documentary or
choosing what which we feel will fit the mood that we are trying to set with our
documentary.
11. Should the advert include sound clips
from the actual documentary
We are pleased with the audiences response to this question as having sound clips
from the actual documentary is something that we wanted in our radio advert. It
means that the audience listening to the radio advert get a sense of the style of the
documentary and allows us to put in any interesting clips from interviews into the
radio advert which in turn make the radio advert more interesting and enticing to
our potential audience
12. How long should the radio advert be?
(seconds)
We are not sure whether the results of this reflect what we want. We will have to see
during the creation process whether a 10-20 second radio advert will be long enough
but we are almost certain that to get the most out of the advert and to include sound
slips from the actual documentary it will need to be longer that 20 seconds. Perhaps
only 5 seconds more will be long enough but once again this is something that we will
decide on nearer the time when we have the sound clips from our interviews and are
able to grasp what bits we want to include in the sound clips.
13. Should the voice over be…
The results of this question also reflect what we want as well. We feel that a
calm voice will be better than an assertive voice because it fits more naturally
with our target audience as creative people are stereotypically seen as calm
and relaxed.
14. What poster design should we use?
The design type that the audience have decided on is minimalistic. This does goes well
with the filming style that we are thinking about and is more suited towards a creative
documentary as this style of poster is more of a creative way of portraying information
and will look more sophisticated which will help in attracting our more sophisticated
audience.
15. Is a tagline nessasery
This question shows that the audience is fairly mixed about the idea of having a tagline.
For this reason we are going to make a tagline during the creation process to see if it
works as this is what the majority has said they want but if it does not work with the
minimalistic style and the style of our documentary then we will change to no tag line.
16. Should the poster include images from
the actual documentary
The majority have said that the poster should include images from the actual film. This
will involve taking a snapshot from one of our shots from the documentary. This is a
good idea if we want to get a nice photo of one of our interviewees during an interview.
It will allow us to capture a certain point in the documentary footage that we like and
use that in our poster.
17. Should the poster include review
quotes
This is dependent on how minimalistic we would like our poster to be.
However I do believe that review quotes is necessary for a poster as It is a
convention for poster campaigns. The review quotes will also act as a way of
promoting the documentary.
18. Should the poster be more based on
imagery or iconography
This was an interesting question as a design based around iconography can be
more suited towards a minimalistic design, however most people have
suggested the use of images for the poster from the actual footage. Despite
this making up a larger vote we are going to go against this idea and instead
use an iconic image of a chainsaw to represent the creative industries as we
feel this will suit our documentary more as it is less conventional and will
therefore be more appealing to our niche audience.
19. Improvements
• Someone from our first set of respondents has
suggested to us that we apply some context to
the questionnaire as the questions where a
little confusing without knowing what the
questions where about. For this reason I am
going to place a small text box at the
beginning of each questionnaire explaining
what it is about before we release them to a
larger amount of people.
