What type of media institutions might
distribute your media product and why?
Bauer
I would want Bauer to distribute my magazine, as it is the largest
distributor in Europe to date, offering over 300 magazines in 15
different countries on a daily basis. They would be relevant for my
product as they would be able to get my magazine out to a wide
range of people within a short period of time, and as they are so
successful it would become easier for my target audience to access
my magazine as they have links with larger retailers. Although they
already distribute a range of popular music magazines such as Q,
Kerrang! and Mojo, they do not have a successful pop music
magazine that they are distributing at the moment so there would not
be any competition within the distribution and my magazine would be
more likely to be successful.
IPC
IPC would also be a relevant distributor for my magazine as it
already distributes a diverse range of magazines of differing
genres, including magazines such as ‘Look’ that are already
popular among my target audience. I feel that this would be
relevant to my magazine as they already know how to make a
magazine popular, which is crucial in order for a magazine to
become a success. NME is one of the longest running music
magazines to date, and is distributed by IPC which allows me to
understand that they are reliable and have a good reputation
when it comes to music magazines.
Apple
Apple would be a good distributor for my
magazine as my target audience is very
technology-based and many have access to a
variety of Apple products such as iPads and
iPhones. By making my magazine into an app as
well as having hard copies available it would
reach even more of my target audience.
