2. Who is the target audience for the
production?
• My target audience defined by age and is 16 to 20 year
olds who enjoy the mainstream music.
• I decided to aim for this type of audience because it
meant that I could easily relate to my own production
using my own preferences as feedback from target
audience and I could easily find other members of the
target group among my friends and family for feedback.
3. Why will the production appeal to the
target audience?
• The song, along with the editing to the fast beat, will create a
happy vibe and may prompt the audience to use the song for
parties or other social events that have a happy tone. This is
something that teenagers look for in new music.
• The romantic but funny love story between the two characters
will be appealing to the audience because love is something
they strive for and admire in the media.
• The two characters have pleasing characteristics, something
the audience can again admire and aspire to be like.
• The song and the conventions of the video are all part of the
pop genre which is a genre most 16-20 year olds base their
music taste around. They will be familiar with the conventions
from other music videos and feel comfortable watching it and
will be able to relate it to past experiences with music videos.
4. What uses and gratification will the
target audience get from the
production?• Escapism: They can immerse themselves within the
made up world the boy is being transported through. This
links to the audience admiring the relationship between
the characters.
• Mood Boost: The upbeat song and quick editing might
have psychological effects and subliminally make the
audience happier.
• Remember the Song: The song will be in the audiences
head after watching the video, I have found this after
showing the video to members of my target audience.
5. Blumer and Katz - Theory
• They say audiences want media products that gratify
certain needs.
• Escapism: They can immerse themselves within the made
up world the boy is being transported through. This links
to the audience admiring the relationship between the
characters.
6. Frankfurt School – Effects Theory
• Hypodermic Needle Theory: The audience will be directly
influenced by the media product.
• The audience may see the idealistic relationship between
the two characters and then go away aspiring to be
exactly like them and then actively seek out a partner.
7. Laura Mulvey – Feminist Theory
• She says that media texts often encourage the audience
to objectify women through the ‘Male Gaze’.
• My video does not support this theory as my female
character is not shown in a sexualised manor and
therefore does not serve the ‘Male Gaze’.
8. Bandura – Effects Theory
• Bobo Doll Experiment (1965) found that children copied
the actions of the adult. This can be interpreted to mean
that the person with less power follows the actions o the
person with more power.
• This relates to my video because teenage boys may see
the shots of the boy behaving in a joking manor and see
the girl enjoying it, then copy those actions whilst seeking
out a partner.
• Girls may see the female character being cheeky and
mischievous and copy her actions and act in a similar
manor towards boys.
