Question 2: How effective is the
combination of your main product
and ancillary texts?
By Sarah Collumb
My three products:
Magazine Front Cover Film Poster Film Trailer
TEXT/TITLES
In each of my products I presented the title of my
film in the same way, using the same font and
same effects. By doing this I was able to make a
common link between my three products which
the audience could recognise. Furthermore the
title of my film acted as the iconic signifier for my
film.
I made another link between my products by
including this slogan on my film poster and
magazine front cover. By doing this the
audience can identify the poster and front
cover both as products promoting the film
shadow.
To improve on my combination of ancillary
texts and my trailer I could of included the
same font throughout, however I have used
multiple fonts between all three products.
Font Style
Characters
The actors I used in my film trailer, I also took
photos of to use for my film poster and front
cover. By doing this the audience can become
familiar with the characters and the characters
will become recognisable through each of my
products. By doing this it creates a common
theme throughout my three products.
Colour Scheme
• I used the same colour scheme in my poster
and font cover, using mainly black and red and
a splash colour of yellow. By keeping the
colour scheme the same in both products, it
creates a colour theme to the film trailer being
promoted.
Imagery
• In my trailer I edited the lighting in order for the film to
look dark and mysterious. There is a common link between
my film and my photography for my two ancillary products
as I also used dark lighting for them.
• There is also a link between the title of the film and the
way in which my photos are portrayed on my ancillary
products (more so my poster. The way in which I have
edited my photos my poster gives off a shadow affect,
representing the title of the film, ‘Shadow’.
• I also included a link between my title and my film, I did this
my recording a scene involving the young girl walking and
the man following her, however all you can see is their
shadows.
