QUESTION 2: HOW EFFECTIVE
IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR
MAIN PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY
TEXTS?
JAKEWORGANA2 MEDIA
Poster
Poster/Trailer
I have used the exact same shot for my poster as my trailer by taking a screenshot
once I had completed my filming. This is the iconic/memorable scene of the trailer
and therefore I saw it necessary to use it as my poster background. I want my
product to be as appealing to viewers and possible so therefore the most exciting
scene of the trailer is an obvious choice for the background of my poster and that
is why I believe it is effective.
Poster/Trailer
I have used the same JW MEDIA design for both my trailer and my poster.
However, in order to blend with the background some minor changes have had to
be made. For example, on the poster the grey background made the grey gradient
apparent in the trailer logo is not necessary as it would not contrast and therefore
would be harder to read. The same principle applies for my trailer where the black
would blend with the background so therefore some minor changes had to be
made but the logo is the same design and is apparent on both deliberately which I
believe makes it seem more effective and professional.
Poster/Trailer
Although it is not blatantly obvious I have used the same font for both my trailer
and my poster, although the same principle applies as with my logo in that colour
changes were necessary in order to contrast with the background. I looked through
the fonts on the computer and decided none fitted the dark mood of the trailer or
poster and I therefore visited www.dafont.com to find a font that I felt appropriate
for the mood of my trailer and this font fitted the category perfectly. It is grungy,
messy and dark a lot like the themes in my trailer/poster. By using the same font it
creates an effective link between poster and trailer that may be picked up and
appreciated by viewers.
Magazine
Magazine/Trailer
The most blatant use of blending between magazine is the use of my protagonist
Matt Cairns as the model. I decided to do my movie magazine on my actual film
and therefore the actor was necessary. I have created a magazine that further
advertises my trailer and links the two together. I have based all my media work
around this concept of “TheVictim” and I believe it is effective and the way the all
intertwine is almost poetic with some blatant and some more subtle links.

Magazine/Trailer
Continuing from the previous slide were I mentions “subtle links” this is a prime
example of such. The heading on my magazine “100 villains we love to hate” is a
very subtle link to my trailer in which the protagonist is a depressed student who
decided to commit an atrocity as a response to the bullying he faces. Although my
trailer only shows a snippet of it, it is easily observable by the music that I am trying
to make the audience feel sorry for the young boy and therefore sympathise with
him; hence the title “1oo villians we love to hate.” The audience know its wrong,
and know in wider society he’d be a villain yet support him and love him. A subtle
link.
Magazine/Trailer
Another effective link between trailer and magazine is the notion of taking my
actor out of character and back into his own personal self. I do this by creating the
heading about Matt Cairns, the real actor. The magazine would include sections on
the actor talking about the role out of character and I think that’s an important link
that not many people will have thought of.There are two people, the actor and the
character and to show a distinct line between the two helps intertwine the two
sections of work in a different yet more effective manner.
