1. How effective is the combination of
your main product and ancillary texts?

2. A2 Coursework
For my A2 media studies coursework me and my team mates were set
a task of creating a trailer as well as a magazine front cover page and
also a movie poster based on the horror/thriller genre. In order to
create our own trailer, magazine front cover and poster we did some
research and planning on some existing products. Before we created
any of our products we looked at similar products and got some ideas
we could possibly use to help us and we also looked at what the
audience would want to see which helped our decision making. For
example for our trailer I analysed an existing trailer called ‘Grave
Encounters’ which I analysed because it helped me understand some
of the codes and conventions of a horror trailer. All of this research
give a purpose to our final products because we did some in depth
research that helped us a lot.

3. Title
The title of our trailer ‘The Retribution’ has a link throughout the
3 products we produced. Our trailer, magazine and poster
contain coherence between the title as it appears in them all. On
the poster the same font was used for the title as the magazine
but the only difference was the colour used. The products we
created does not give much of the story away to the audience as
this will keep them interested and want to know what will
happen next.

4. Images
The images we used on both the front cover and magazine link as the image
of the girl is the same character for both. This was done so the audience
could relate to the poster and magazine and know that they both link to the
same movie, also it does not give to much away therefore convincing the
audience to watch the film. The images also link to the trailer as the girl is
seen throughout the trailer and this was done because the audience would
expect to see her appear in the trailer if she is on both magazine and poster.

5. Image and Magazine background
The background image used on the poster of the
scratches links to the magazine because the same
background was used. We decided to do this because we
wanted to keep a consistent theme for both our ancillary
texts. The colours of the background links with our genre
which is horror because the connotations of horror would
be darkness which relates to our background.

6. Narrative
The narrative of the story links with all 3
products. Because the girl on the front cover
and magazine is the main character it tells the
audience that she must have an important role
in the film.
