  2. Welcome to the training module on PSA-T Series Spectrum Analyser This training module will give an overview of the PSA-T series Spectrum Analyzer and introduce its feature and application. device.
  3. The PSA-T series spectrum analyzer incorporates the handheld computer within its housing to create a single integrated instrument. The unit is very compact and lightweight. It fits easily into the hand and takes up very little room within a toolkit. Two models are included. The PSA1301T has an upper frequency limit of 1.3GHz while the PSA2701T extends up to 2.7GHz. Both models offer every engineer the opportunity to own a spectrum analyzer regardless of their particular speciality.
  4. The PAS-T series incorporates a model T|X handheld computer from Palm. Despite it’s small size it has a resolution of 320x480 pixels. The display can include one or two markers with on-screen readout of frequency and level including difference values. The fast and flexible setting feature makes it ease of use, which is a major consideration in the selection of test instruments. The PSA-T series can store unlimited amounts of data using removable memory cards. Meanwhile, a USB linked card reader is supplied which allows files to be transferred to or from a PC using simple drag and drop. In addition to the normal continuous update mode, the sweep can be set to Single-shot, Peak-hold, or Multi-sweep Average. The PSA-T series operates from rechargeable batteries that can provide more than four hours of continuous operation.
  5. Here we list some key parameters for PSA1301T and PSA2701T. These two models are fit in different frequency range, PAS1301T is from 150KHz to 1300MHz; and PAS2701T from 1MHz to 2700 MHz. Both models have fully adjustable centre frequency and span in 1kHz steps. The span can be set anywhere between 0.320 MHz and 1299.850 MHz or 2699.000 MHz with a resolution of 1kHz. 1MHz resolution bandwidth setting provides fast sweep speeds for wide spans. Start, stop or centre frequencies can be set to the same resolution. The resolution bandwidth is selectable as 280 kHz or 15 kHz or 1 MHz, 280 kHz or 15 kHz. As well as continuous and single sweep modes, the user can select peak-hold or multi-sweep averaging for up to 256 sweeps. Single or dual markers can be selected.
  6. The PSA-T series will find many applications within traditional radio communication field environments, such as Antenna Alignment and Signal Strength Mapping. The wide span of the PSA-T series makes it ideal for investigation of equipment emissions for compliance with EMC requirements relating to CE or FCC approvals. Other applications include Harmonic Distortion Measurement, Filter Evaluations, Clock Signal Integrity Checks, Spurious Signal Identification, HF Stability Analysis, etc.
  7. The handheld used with the PSA-T series retains all of its functionality, giving access to the full power of the Palm operating system. The Palm T|X can work with Word and Excel files that can be transferred to and from your PC. PDF files and even Powerpoint presentations can also be viewed. The T|X can be used to view a wide range of graphic file types in high resolution colour with zoom and pan. Circuit and wiring diagrams, connector descriptions, and a host of other important information can be stored in graphical format for instant recall. The T|X can be connected to a mobile phone, a PC or a Network (using WiFi, Bluetooth, USB or IR) to give access to email and the web. A built-in emailer program and web browser are provided. SMS text messages can be sent via a linked phone using the Palm qwerty keyboard. The T|X can play back MP3 and other digital audio format. When the spectrum analyzer function is not required, the Palm T|X handheld computer can be quickly removed to be carried in a pocket or briefcase.
  8. The Palm T|X has nine hard keys (four dedicated keys plus the five way navigator). The PS Analyzer application creates soft keys within a menu structure. Soft keys can be pressed directly (using a finger tip or stylus) or they can be operated using the five way navigator ** (left/right/up/down to select, centre to “press” the key). This latter mode avoids ever having to touch the screen. The four dedicated keys are used to start or stop the sweep (Run and Stop), select context sensitive Help, and exit a sub menu and return to the home menu (Back / Home).
  9. The PSAnalyzer application has been written to give the user a choice - touch screen operation using a stylus or a finger tip, or hard key operation without ever touching the screen.   10. This menu allows the selection of four different modes: Centre/Span, Start/Stop, Zero Span and Quick Menu. To change mode press the appropriate key after which the unit returns automatically to the home menu. Also provides a function called Preset which sets defined conditions from a single key press.
  11. This menu allows the centre frequency of the sweep to be set. Values are always in MHz with a maximum resolution of 0.001 (1kHz). The range is 0.310 to 1299.840 MHz or 1.160 to 2699.840 MHz. To exit this menu and return to the home menu press the Back (Home) hard key, or the grey area at the top left of the menu.
  12. Frequency sweeps are started and stopped using the hard keys Run and Stop. The Sweep menu permits four different sweep types to be selected, and allows the resolution bandwidth to be changed, The Stop key halts the sweep at any time and holds the trace. The Run key initiates a new sweep and also resets Averaging and Peak Hold sweep modes. When the sweep is in Stop, any change to the sweep frequency settings or to the attenuator setting will initiate a new single sweep.
  13. The PSA-T series can store unlimited amounts of data using removable memory cards. Many hundreds of files can be stored on a single card. Data can be stored under either default file names, or user file names entered using the Palm keyboard. The PSA-T series can store three types of data: traces, set-ups and screens. PSA-T has other external connections, including SMA connector for RF signal input, USB socket, demodulated audio out, and DC power in.
