Wylie Fire Rescue will be using the following portable
radios starting March 28:
APX 7000 Ruggedized Dual Band 800/VHF
(All Chiefs – Not Intrinsically Safe)
APX 6000 Ruggedized (Operations Positions)
XTS 5000
(EOC Operations, Special Events)

Fire Marshall’s APX 7000
and Fire Inspectors Radios
are equipped with AES

4. Non-Intrinsically Safe Radios
Intrinsically Safe Radios are incapable
of releasing sufficient electrical or
thermal energy under normal or
abnormal operating conditions to
cause ignition of a specific hazardous
mixture and air
Our 8 Dual Band (800/VHF) full key
pad radios for command positions are
not intrinsically safe
Non-Intrinsically Safe Radios are
marked with red on antennas
Radios that are not Intrinsically Safe,
should never be used in a possible
explosive environment!
16. Display Configuration
To display options such
as zone, scan, mute,
battery, info, and clock
press the right arrow. To
select an option, press
button directly below it.
To go back to home
screen, press and HOLD
the home button.
17. Zone Toggle Switch
The three main
operation zones can
be selected using the
zone toggle switch.
Zone Order:
A - WFR
B – Inter-op
C –Wylie PD

there is an audible
announcement

Fire Dispatch is set on
channels 1 and 16 in

20. Selecting Zones
To select a zone through
the display follow this
procedure
1. Make sure portable
radio is on the main
display screen
2. Select zone icon by
pressing button below
it.
3. Arrow up or down to
desired zone
4. Pick SEL or select icon
by pressing the button
below the menu item
5. This will take you to
the home screen,
displaying the new
zone.

22. Talk Around
Wylie will not have a specific talk around channel
For any direct use we will use 8TAC97D(Direct, Walkie
Talkie)
This channel can be monitored by anyone. Please use
proper radio etiquette
When you press PTT you will not receive an audible
alert
23. Display
Explanation
•1st row= shows the zone that you’re
on
•2nd row= shows the channel that
you’re on
•3rd row= shows the identification
of your radio as well as those that
key up on the same channel
(Caller ID)
24. Call Alert
Some portables are capable of
alerting stations through
Motorola call alert
To alert the stations follow these
procedures:
Use the right arrow key to scroll
down to the page option
Select page
scroll to select desired station to
alert
Once station is highlighted, press
PTT
25. Emergency Button
Emergency buttons are located
on the radio and lapel mic
Emergency Button activation
on the radio has a 750
millisecond delay (less than a
second) Hold it down
Instant on the lapel mic
When emergency button is
depressed, five beeps will
follow
All radio traffic from the
portable in emergency mode
will have priority
To reset emergency setting,
press and hold emergency
button until audible beep has
ended
26. Sigtronics
Unlike previously
stated, we will be able
to outfit all vehicles
with Sigtronics
portable connectors.
27. Radio Holders
Radio holders will be on
every fire apparatus
Radios are to remain in
holders when not in use
This will be extremely
important on the Medics
and Brush Trucks
