This document defines and provides examples of different types of pronouns: - A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun or another pronoun. The word a pronoun refers to is called its antecedent. - There are personal pronouns like I, you, he, she, it, we and they that can be used as subjects or objects of verbs. - Possessive pronouns like my, your, her, his, its, our and their come before nouns to show ownership or relationship between the noun and another person or thing.

2. WHAT IS A PRONOUN?
 A pronoun is a word that is used in place of a noun or
another pronoun.
 Like a noun, a pronoun can refer to a person, place, thing,
or idea.
 The word that a pronoun refers to is called its antecedent.
 For Example:
Maria was lost. She didn’t panic.
She checked the flashlight. It still worked.

4. PERSONAL PRONOUNSThe subject of a verb : -
I, you, he, she, it, we and they can all be used as the
subject of a verb.
Examples :-
 Lisa likes cats.
She has four cats.
Lisa – proper noun (subject)
She – pronoun (subject)
Sharma is a good teacher. He is a good player.

5. The objective of a verb : -
me, you, him, her, it, us and them can all be used as the object
of a verb.
Ex : -
Lisa likes cats. She likes to stroke them.

7. WHAT IS A POSSESSIVE PRONOUN?
A possessive pronoun is a personal pronoun used
to show ownership or relationship.

8. PROGRESSIVE PRONOUNS
The possessive pronouns my, your, her, his, its, our, and their
come before nouns.
For Example:
The dog pricked up its little ears. (ownership)
It saw the boy and heard his loud cry for help. (relationship)
The owner and his best friend came to the rescue.
(relationship)

9. THINGS TO REMEMBER…
Some possessive pronouns sound like contractions
(its/it’s, your/you’re, their/they’re).
Remember, a possessive pronoun never has an
apostrophe.
A contraction, however, always has an
apostrophe.
