Determining Primortem Trauma in Forsic Pathology and...
There are many factors involved in the determination of perimortem trauma time in both forensic
pathology and forensic anthropology. This is critical information when it comes to legal issues or the
interpretation of prehistoric bone fractures. There is an extensive difference in fracture properties that
depend both on the time that has passed since death, and the type of environment where the specimen
has been exposed after death. A study was performed by Luis Coelho and Hugo F.V. Cardoso, the
purpose of this study was to determine the effects of different environments and the time of exposure
in the environment on bone fracture patterns. They are taking a Forensic anthropological approach in
which bone tissue quality (whether the bone is dry(postmortem) or fresh (perimortem)), is used,
instead of using time intervals relative to the tume of death. The Fractured Freshness Index, which
combines fracture angle, fracture surface, and fracture outline as criteria to determine the time of bone
fracture, was used along with postmortem interval. Fresh limbs from pig and goat were exposed to
three different environments. Seven sets of ten segments of the limbs were either buried, submerged,
or left on ground surface. Five segments were pig and five were goat. Each sets were buried within
twenty eight days of the previous. The postmortem intervals were 28, 56, 84, 112, 140, 168, and 196
days. The first set was buried for 196 days and the last set was buried for 28

Online Classes vs. Traditional Classroom Learning
Online Classes vs. Traditional Classroom Learning
When deciding to take college courses there are many choices you have to make. One of the more
important choices is where you plan to take your classes. Online classes are becoming increasingly
popular because they can be easier to fit into a busy schedule, but some people still argue that nothing
beats a traditional classroom setting. Having the option of online classes makes continuing an
education more appealing to people that have to balance many other responsibilities like family, jobs,
etc. Online classes and the traditional classroom setting both offer many of the same advantages. They
both provide the student with the same course content so there is no loss of curriculum between the
two. Both demand the same time investment for learning, studying, taking exams, completing papers,
and so on. Although it seems easy to think that with doing all of your school work online there isn t
any personal interaction with professors and peers, however, that is a common misconception. Online
classes, like traditional ones, require a degree of contact with your peers and professors. It may not be
as personal interaction as raising your hand and being called on, but you can e mail your professor at
any time and there are discussion boards and forums available for fellow students to communicate and
help each other out. One of the most significant differences between taking online classes and having
the traditional

Sorrowful Woman Essay
Sorrowful Woman 1. FIRST RESPONSE. How did you respond to the excerpt from A SECRET
SORROW and to A Sorrowful Woman ? Do you like one more than the other? Is one of the women
Faye or Godwin s unnamed wife more likable than the other? Why do you think you respond the way
you do to the characters and the stories is your response intellectual, emotional, a result of authorial
intent, a mix of these, or something else entirely? Both writings were very well written and very
enjoyable to read. The Sorrowful Woman and A Secret Sorrow were similar, although they were very
different, due to the inner sorrow they both faced. I enjoyed reading A Secret Sorrow more than The
Sorrowful Woman due to the fact that I was able to somewhat ... Show more content on

She was staring at his chest, blindly, not knowing what to think, not thinking at all. He lifter her chin,
gently. Look at me Faye. She did, but his face was a blur. Faye, we re in this together you and I. Don t
you see that? It s not just your problem, it s ours. In A Sorrowful Woman , I found the husband s
nurturing ways most appealing. He completely rearranged his life to make sure that his wife was as
comfortable as possible. The passage that most signifies this is found on page 41. With great care he
rearranged his life. He got up hours early, did the shopping, cooked the breakfast, took the boy to
nursery school. We will manage, he said, until you re better, however long that is. He did his work,
collected the boy from the school, came home and made the supper, washed the dishes, got the child
to bed. He managed everything. One evening, just as she was on the verge of swallowing her draught,
there was a timid knock on her door. The little boy came in wearing his pajamas. Daddy has fallen
asleep on my bed and I can t get in. There s not room. In A Sorrowful Woman what I found most
unappealing was that even though the husband clearly loved her, instead of getting her the help she
clearly needed, he let her sickness overcome her.

Using Literary Devices In The Sixth Sense
After recently watching The Sixth Sense I realized that there is a great use of devices in the film. The
Sixth Sense is about a child psychologist Dr. Malcolm, who tries to help a child defeat his dark secret.
I think this movie is a prime example of using literary devices such as, foreshadowing and symbolism
within the script. I really enjoyed this film for these reasons and would recommend it everyone. There
are many instances in which these devices are used in the film, some are much more noticeable than
the others. This movie has a really high replay value because, you always notice something new in
regards to symbolism. Also the other view points that you can see the story after knowing what
happens in the dramatic ending. The many uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The biggest aspect of foreshadowing used in this movie is the fact that Malcolm only interacts with
Cole during the entire movie after his death. This is something that is hard to notice on the first time
you watch this film. This aspect gives the film high replay value. When Malcolm is sitting in the
living room with Cole s mother the viewer assumes that they are both talking when Cole arrives home
from school, when in reality she doesn t even notice Malcolm. When Malcolm attends Cole s plays at
his school no one asks him why he s there or anything at all. My favorite example of this is, there are
other parents recording the play and are sitting directly behind Malcolm. If they were able to see him,
Malcolm would be in the way of the shot. The other parents see right through him because he is dead,
I think that this is brilliant foreshadowing for the twist at the end of the film. The temperature change
is one of the more obvious uses of foreshadowing in the movie. The temperature dropped in the film
when a ghost was upset. A the start of one of the scenes, there is a close up on the thermostat changing
to cold by itself. This is foreshadowing on the upset ghosts that are about to visit

Letter to Lóreal Canada Regarding Avoiding Animal Testing
DATE: April 03, 2014
TO: K. Voltan, Vice President
FROM: Rob Geis, Marketing Executive
SUBJECT: Higher Demand for Non Animal Tested Cosmetic Products
INTRODUCTION
L Oréal Canada and Animal Testing
There has been some controversy regarding L Oréal Canada and their use of animal testing in their
cosmetic products. For certifications regarding safety, we currently possess 86% of manufacturing
facilities that are either OHSAS 18001 or VPP certified. (L Oréal Canada, 2014) Safety is a priority
for us at L Oréal Canada to ensure that our products are safe for our consumers so that they can enjoy
the beauty of our cosmetic products. Health Canada has stated that science has not advanced to the
point where they feel comfortable banning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(CFHS, 2014) L Oréal Canada should work hard to ensure that all of our manufacturing faculties
comply with the standards of CCAC so that our faculties can be certified for good animal practices as
well. It is important that our researchers and manufacturers find alternative methods to animal testing,
and only resort to the use of animals when all else fails. If there is no option but to use animals for the
testing of cosmetic products, the number of animals used should be minimized, and pain and
discomfort for those animals should be reduced as well. This is how the implementation of the three R
s of ethics should be used with regards to animals in research so that we have good business practices
and consumers will be more willing to purchase our products.
Sections 444 447 under the Criminal Code of Canada protects the rights of animals against cruelty, but
it the provincial legislation that deals with the use of animals in research. (CFHS, 2014) Quebec has a
specific legislation for animals in research, but this legislation does not have the CCAC guidelines
implemented into the legislation. (CFHS, 2014) At L Oréal Canada, since we are located in Montreal,
we should focus on incorporating CCAC guidelines into our business practices even though the
provincial legalisation does not make it a requirement. This is important because consumers want to
purchase products from companies that have good business practices and protect the rights of animals.
Therefore our

Essay on The Fight to Legalize Marijuana
The Fight to Legalize Marijuana
Marijuana is probably the most recreational and illegal drug in the world. The most significant
ingredient is delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinal, it is commonly referred to it abbreviated form THC. This
drug should not be legalized because it would lead to hard core drugs, there would be an increase in
obesity, and it affects the heart, lungs and the brain. There are legal, social, and medical reasons that
marijuana should not be decriminalized.
Some legal reasons that marijuana shouldn t be decriminalized are it would lead to experimenting with
more hard core drugs such as heroin and cocaine. It will also increase in crime and car accidents
because it would be harder to determine if a person is driving high ... Show more content on

Some medical reasons that marijuana shouldn t be decriminalized are that it has long and short terms
effects. Examples of the short term outcomes include memory loss, difficulty with thinking, loss of
motor skills and increased heart rate. According to the National Institutes of Health show that
someone smoking about five joints per week is taking in as many cancer causing chemicals as
someone smoking a pack of cigarettes every day. There is no science proof that smoked marijuana can
be used for medication. Since cannabis plants are polluted with a range of fungal spores, smoking
marijuana may increase the risk of infectious organisms. Taradiff, J. Marijuana and the War on Drugs.
Marijuana. Farmington Hills, Michigan: Thomas Gale, 2008. 157. Print.
The Drug Enforcement Administration situations on fighting to legalize medical marijuana are based
on two proposals: the scientific field views marijuana as a treatment while the DEA targets sick and
dying people using the drug. Neither suggestion is true, science proved it is not medicine and it is not
safe to use. The DEA targets on criminal trafficking and not the sick and dying. In 1970 congress
authorized laws against marijuana based on that there is no logically proven medical value. Like the
Food and Drug Administration, which is responsible for authorizing drugs safe an effective medicine
has declined to approve smoked marijuana for any circumstance or disease.

Bishop Orders His Tomb at Saint Praxed s Church and The Love Song of Alfred J. Prufrock
The span of time from the Victorian age of Literature to the Modernism of the 20th century wrought
many changes in poetry style and literary thinking. While both eras contained elements of self
scrutiny, the various forms and reasoning behind such thinking were vastly different. The Victorian
age, with it s new industrialization of society, brought to poetry and literature the fictional character,
seeing the world from another s eyes. It was also a time in which Victorian authors and intellectuals
found a way to reassert religious ideas (Longman, p. 1790). Society was questioning the ideals of
religion, yet people wanted to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Do I live, am I dead? (13) reveals the uncertainty of the bishops thoughts as he contemplates death,
wondering if others see that he deserves such a fine tomb. In Eliot s poem, Prufrock poses his own
questioning, Do I dare? (38) and Do I dare/ disturb the universe? (45 46) which reflects his own
personal conflict as he struggles to decide on whether he should take action, any action in his own life.
Although these monologues contain the same elements of self questioning, they are vastly different,
both in style and in tone. The bishop of Browning s poem sees himself as a great man, How I earned
the prize! (33). He orders this stately tomb of lapis (102) and antique black basalt (53 54), a tomb so
rich such as a king or queen might be deserving of. This gives us a clear picture that he thinks highly
of himself, and he wants others to see the same, even after he is dead, the tomb much like a shrine of
great importance.
In contrast, Alfred J. Prufrock of Eliot s poem, feels no such greatness in himself. He is filled with vast
uncertainty so that every small decision is wrought with conflict, and as such, he never does anything.
I have measured out my life with coffee spoons (51) shows us that his life was characterized by small
measures, having done no great work. I am no prophet (84) and Am an attendant lord, one that will do
(112) characterizes his view of himself,

Hitomi Cinderellana Alternate Ending
Konoha was in bloom. And Hitomi Hane hadn t seen anything so beautiful in a long time like this
village. From the banners waving slowly in the summer breeze to the decorations and tender feeling of
love radiating from every citizen, Hitomi couldn t imagine anywhere she would rather be. Not even
her homelands. Her eyes were wide behind the fabric that covered half of the genin s face, a small
smile appearing on her face as she walked through the streets alone. She would have to fly up later
and get a better view, before they did the fireworks, since she couldn t remember what the village
looked like from the air. Every village was different and if she wanted to train and become a scouting

Hitomi s senses were bombarded from all the blossoms and plants that filled the store. This is so
beautiful... Hi there, can I help you, sir? Too engrossed by the colors and scents of the flower shop,
Hitomi didn t realize that the employee was addressing her. It wasn t till the shop worker spoke again,

boy but she hadn t been called a guy in a long time as most in Kumokagure knew who she was as
heiress to the Hane Clan. But Konoha didn t know that. Hitomi s face flushed as she looked down at
her feet, shifting nervously, feeling confined in the shop, too stuck without the sky above her. But to
correct the shop worker would be even more embaressing, for both of them, so Hitomi said nothing to

Puritanism and Pragmatism Essay
Although they lived on the same continent, John Winthrop and Benjamin Franklin lived in very
different worlds. These men are similar in some respects, but overwhelmingly they are different. For
example, John Winthrop and Benjamin Franklin can be considered leaders in their time frame.
Winthrop led the Puritans; Franklin led his country to war. Both men also possessed many of the same
virtues such as patience and work ethic. Despite these similarities, John Winthrop and Benjamin
Franklin had a different style of living and a different philosophy of life. These differences are most
notable in regards to religion, economics, and science. Perhaps the greatest difference between
Winthrop and Franklin was their view of religion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The initial New England ideal of a closely knit, covenanted community proved difficult to maintain in
the face of economic growth (52). The region began to grow not only in population, but also in
prosperity. The Puritans were expected to support the church by giving money to their ministers. The
later generations born in Massachusetts Bay were more interested in keeping their wealth than fearing
the wrath of God. New England merchants were accused of making too much money; they began to
want relief and freedom from the straitjacket of Puritanism. The life of Benjamin Franklin is a
typically rags to riches story. He knew that hard work would pay off in the end, and by the age of forty
two he had accumulated sufficient wealth to reach his goal of the ‘free and easy life (54). Unlike
Winthrop, Franklin believed that the money one earns is rightfully his own. Winthrop s and Franklin s
economic philosophies reflected the time period in which they lived. A final difference between
Winthrop and Franklin dealt with their notions of science. Naturally, for the Puritans, science meshed
with religion. It says on page 60, Nature was God s handiwork; its processes showed the effect of His
guidance. Consequently, to study natural phenomena was to observe the wisdom, power, and glory of
God. Science for the Puritan mind was an act of worship. On the other hand, Franklin was determined
to understand how things work; he

How to Tell a True Story by Tim O Briean Essay
The Vietnam War was the longest war in the United States history. Whether they volunteered or were
drafted, one out of ten soldiers did not survive the war. With the average age of the men being just
twenty one, they were not grown up enough nor mature enough to deal with such tragedy, and
grotesque, unspeakable encounters. During the span of the twenty four years that the U.S. helped fight
in the Vietnam War; 58,148 men and women died in action. Families, friends, and neighbors all fought
for the same cause and each had their own story. Although some of the war stories sound similar, each
holds a different meaning and the personal feelings of the individual.

The baby water buffalo story didn t happen nor did the story about a soldier who throws his body on a
grenade and does not manage to save his buddies. A baby water buffalo being tortured simply serves
as a graphic method of portraying onto the readers how the young and immature Vietnam soldier
handles the death of his dear friend. Rat Kiley hurt so much that he needed to hurt something back in
order to portray his true feelings upon the audience and make them feel them as well. An image of this
poor little suffering Viet Cong buffalo, that refuses to die, provides far more of a vivid testament to
war than the hallow cry of war is hell . On the other hand, the story about the soldier and the grenade
conveys the profound truth that heroism in battle does not always save lives. Sometimes it can even
make things worse. Most people do not realize that the truth of a story does not lie in the details but
rather in the gut reaction that you feel while listening to it.
O Brien incorporates polysyndeton into his stories to create that gut reaction: a sense of sympathy for
the soldiers fighting. He stresses the fact that the soldier s youth hinders their ability to handle such
tragic and difficult situations. O Brien uses polysyndeton to emphasize the youth and immaturity of
the men fighting in the war. Most men came into the war being just boys in their teens or early
twenties. They were still children, students and boyfriends who spent their time

This is the banner statement or scientific ethics in all of mankind. If people stopped to think about if

but one example; abortion and cloning are two big one in the world today. The people created Jurassic
Park only wanted money and the credit for making a scientific dream a reality. They became power

the fact that the United States is a big country (size speaking), with diverse people and its wealth is

Essay on Two Words
Two Words
The short story Two Words by Isabel Allende is a tale about a girl who went by the name of Belisa
Crepusculario. She had extreme desire to be the best at selling words, since the first time she saw
words in the sports section of the newspaper. Belisa learned to read from a priest for 20 pesos and read
the dictionary until she knew it cold. She went from the top of blistering cold mountains to scorching
hot coasts selling her words in markets and fairs. Belisa s words became popular fast and everyone
knew who she was. People waited for her from year to year to hear her words.

I believe that the author tries to lead the reader in to sympathizing for the people when the author
wrote, The rebels swept into town like a stampeding herd.... Chickens took wing, dogs ran for their
lives, women and children scurried out of sight, until the only living soul left in the market was Belisa
Crepusculario. Because this quote from the story shows how everyone s scared of both the Colonel
and El Mulato except for Belisa.
The setting is important in this story cause the story is set in Spain back in the time when women had
no rights and were only used to cook and clean. But Belisa contradicts society by putting a curse on El
Mulato a mighty all powerful man who everyone is scared of except Belisa. When Belisa curses El
Mulato the once all mighty man El Mulato is in the hands of a woman who defeated him.
When reading this short story I think that we are suppose to feel surprised after reading the story from
Belisa s accomplishments because Belisa went from being unpopular and poor to being the most
widely known and the most powerful at the end of the story. The message in this story is aimed to the
reader and it says that anyone can do anything they want if they put there mind to it, and if u have the

Human Rights Abuse on the U.S.-Mexican Border Essay
Human Rights Abuse on the U.S. Mexican Border
Between 1993 97 there was a 72% increase in funds provided to the Immigration and Naturalization
Services. The INS has a mobile uniformed division responsible for policing the US Mexican border
called Border Patrol. With such a dramatic increase in just four years it is obvious that the border area
is a pressing concern to the US government. The Border Patrol conducts inspections of travelers,
regulates permanent and temporary immigration into the United States and maintains control of the
US borders, which amount to 8,000 miles. They also identify and remove persons who have no lawful
immigration status in the United States. The border patrol works hand in hand with the INS to ensure

There was more travel for laborers who resided in Mexican territory yet worked daily in the US. With
the excessive passing over the border comes more illegal immigration. Tremendous pressure is put on
the Border Patrol to prevent the illegal immigrants from successfully coming to the United States.
The Human Development Report states the definition of human rights, as the rights possessed by all
persons, by virtue of their common humanity, to live a life of freedom and dignity. They give all
people moral claims in the behavior of individuals and the design of social arrangements and are
universal, inalienable and indivisible. Human rights express our deepest commitments to ensuring that
all persons are secure in their enjoyment of the goods and freedoms that are necessary for dignified
living. Human rights belong to all people, and all people have equal status with respect to these rights
(UNDP 2000). With human rights is the right to freedom.
Freedom from discrimination in any form under any circumstance
Freedom from fear, such as threats to personal security, torture, arbitrary arrest, and other violent acts
Freedom from injustice and violations of the law and the freedom of thought and speech and to
participate in decision making and form associations
These are individual freedoms that are granted to every human being. They are not arguable and are
not outranked in power.

Federal Reserve System Case Study
The Federal Reserve System was established in 1913 by the Federal Reserve Act to improve the U.S
banking after the crises of the Wall Street Panic of 1907 that caused financial ruin for much of the
country. Therefore, the main purpose of the Federal Reserve system was to administer banking
activities to assure that everything is stable and as the economy changes it would not ruin the banking
industry. However, as time passed the Fed has obtained new responsibilities, which have been broken
down in 3 sections and those are:
1. The Fed should direct the monetary policy of the U.S. In doing so it will, promote employment,
stable prices, and moderate long term interest rates. In order to achieve such requests the Fed will have

Essay about Misfortunes of Dreams in Everyday Use” by...
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged
by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. This famous excerpt from Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr. s I have a Dream speech seems to echo the very sentiment of the narrator, whom we
find out later is Mama and Mrs. Johnson, in the short story Everyday Use by Alice Walker. She alludes
to her eldest daughter Dee and says sometimes I dream a dream in which Dee and I are suddenly
brought together on a TV program of this sort. Out of a dark and soft seated limousine I am ushered
into a bright room filled with many people. There I meet a smiling, gray, sporty man like Johnny
Carson who shakes my hand and tells me ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But she does refer to Dee s proclivity to be materialistic: Dee wants nice thing .... At sixteen she had a
style of her own: and knew what style was (61). Mama s dramatic description of herself leaves
nothing to the imagination: In real life I am a large, big boned woman with rough, man working
hands. In winter I wear flannel nightgowns to bed and overalls during the day. I can kill and clean a
hog as mercilessly as a man. My fat keeps me hot in zero weather (60). This description does not bold
well for Mama capturing her role in her dream.
The disparity of the outward imageries by Mama is a small manifestation of her cloaked animosity
and resentment as compared to her hyperbolic soliloquies. Even in her dreams she says Dee wants her
to be a hundred pounds lighter, [her] skin like an uncooked barley pancake; [her] hair [glistening] in
the hot bright lights (60). Mama refers to Dee being embarrassed and ashamed of her mother s
appearance. Mama indicates that she can never be what Dee wants her to be in stating Who ever knew
a Johnson with a quick tongue (60); rhetoric corroborated by Mama s admission that she never had an
education [herself]. After second grade the school was closed down (61). However, Mama shunned
Dee s quick tongue, acquired from her education; Mama recalls [Dee] used to read to [them] without

The Gap Between Whites And Blacks
while the gap between whites and collective blacks does not shrink. The authors argue that in group
versus out group hostilities will lessen between the whites and honorary whites, however this will only
increase their in group size compared to the out group of the collective blacks and only create new
tensions while strengthening old ones between these two groups. This will be because the collective
blacks will feel more segregated from their lighter skinned counterparts. This type of grouping will
only allot the whites more power as honorary whites participation within social society will rely solely
on their white superiors for their approval. Maxine Leeds Craig argued in The Colors of an Ideal

Ludwig also writes that white is monochromatic, which relates to racial intermixing and the idea of
white purity or eugenics because once a wholly white European has sex with someone who is not,
then their child s dominant white genes are saturated with others gene types, thus believed to taint
their purity and dub them less white and less valuable. This is the same with other skin colors that may
purposely mate with someone who possesses milky, white skin in order to perpetuate this idealized
characteristic in their child, because the own dismay for their own skin color, precedent by the
colorism fluxes in society, is influential because parents do not want their child to go through the
social maltreatment they endured. Another reason for the overemphasis on the importance of
whiteness may be its relationship to light, as white is strictly opaque, lacking dimensions unlike its
colorful counterparts whose dimensions compare to their prejudicial past and present in which they
suffer from discrimination and bigotry by its white Supremes. This differs from black because other in
between colors like red, green, and blue all make variations of black when combined at different
levels, which is representative of the forgotten races of Asians, Native Americans, Latinos, etc. When
this occurs, even if the resulting color is a lighter shade, it is still related to

What Is Listening And Why Is It Important
What is Listening and why is it important? This paper will address the viewpoint of listening skills
and its outcome. Listening is an essential tool, which is one of the constructive aspects in the
communication process, for communicating with other people. To listen well is a knack that is learned.
However, for people to listen effectively, they would need to practice to obtain the skill. As with any
new skill, learning to listen takes effort, attention, and practice (Stewart, 2006, p. 202).Listening skills
allow people to make sense of and understand what another person is saying. In other words, listening
skills allow you to identify with the meaning of what people are talking about.
Listening skills is a beneficially sensible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How to Listen
The first aspect of listening is to learn how to listen effectively. In today s society, communicating
appropriately has everything to do with listening. Learning to be a good listener will help improve all
relationships both professionally and personally. If people do not know how to listen well, they can
easily be distracted and their mind will start to wander. Since listening plays an essential role in the
communication process, developing listening skills are important because they will help interpret what
the speaker is saying during feedback. In other words, the listener should be able to respond to what
the speaker talked about for clarification purposes. Accordingly, to become a better listener, and
depending on the situation, there are three types of listening strategies that would be beneficial to
ensure effective communication with other people. Hybels and Weaver (2007) states that active
listening, critical listening, and empathic listening are three different tactics that can be used in diverse
situations (p. 92).
For instance, critical listeners focal point is to listen with determination and an open mind. They need
to recognize and expect to learn something new from the speaker and ask questions about their
viewpoints. A second instance is that of empathic listeners. Their center of attention involves listening
with emotion they actually

Ralph Waldo Emerson s Ideology Of Self Identity
In the essay, Self Reliance, Ralph Waldo Emerson s ideology of self identity is impractical today
because the media has hindered society from developing our true identities. The use of social media is
ruining this generation s real life social skills. According to Social Media Today, an online community
for professionals, The amount of time people spend on social media is constantly increasing. Teens
now spend up to nine hours a day on social platforms, while 30% of all time spent online is now
allocated to social media interaction. Texting or online communications does not allow people to truly
express themselves for who they truly are. There is a loss of social and personal development
communicating through social media. For instance, people online are unable to use body language,
tone, voice and facial expressions through a text. An article on The Telegraph, pointed out that One in
four people spend more time socialising online, using sites such as Facebook, than they do in person,
according to research. The study also found that even when there is an opportunity to see people face
to face, on weekends for example, up to 11% of adults still prefer to stay at home and communicate on
their devices instead. (USA Today). The problem with socialising online is that affects a person s
ability to communicate properly in face to face interactions. The person will feel a sense of social
anxiety and not project their voice loud enough for their audience to hear them. For

The Importance Of Art In Education
There are many careers that have to rely on the arts and all the rest are influenced or supported by the
arts. Art is found in many areas of life to stimulate creativity and expand knowledge. Many politicians
decide to cut arts funding because they think the arts is not a necessity in our school systems. They
also believe that cutting funding in the arts will allow the United States to excel in the subjects we are
failing at in a worldwide standpoint such as the sciences, engineering, and mathematics. Although
many of them feel that way and want major budget cuts in the arts, the people of our nation can fight
and protest the government for what we want. Art integration is very important to classrooms because
of cognitive learning, identity, social justice, and future careers. Art is found around every corner.
Children go to school because the need to learn and develop skills for the future. The children in the
United State are deprived of arts in their learnings. Within many aspects of art from the start of putting
pen on paper or the final piece the children can be engaged in critical analyses of their own and other s
work of art. The teacher can ask questions to provoke thoughts within the child such as how? Or why?
Questions which will help children think about their work in a different critical approach. In the

As a result of this and the age of the production equipment turn around for orders can be three to four
weeks. If the process takes too long a competitor can take away business. Especially if the competitor
has a factory that is more up to date with their technology and processes.
3. Flexibility in filling order(s) At the present time Albatross has very little flexibility in filling orders.
As stated above, the turnaround time to switch machines over is very long. With each anchor and the
age of the equipment, order take too long to fill.
4. Technology
An effective design process should: 1. match product or service characteristics with customer
requirements 2. ensure that customer requirements are met in the simplest and least costly manner 3.
reduces the time required to design a new product or service 4. minimizes the revisions necessary to
make new designs workable
This all relates to technology. When the technology is up to date it reduces process times and in the
end it helps to create more profit for the company because work is done faster, customer needs are met
in a timely fashion and there is less waste.
5. Capacity and facilities At present the layout of the Albatross Anchor factory is not at all efficient. In
order to be efficient the factory should ensure an easy flow of work, material, people and information.
In the current state the raw materials are too far away from the foundry, the finished products

8. Do the debt snowball method.
Make a list of all of your debts, largest to smallest. Pay the minimum balance on all of them. However,
attack the smallest debt with as much money as you can. Do all the things on this list to create some

Delight In The Iliad
According to what Edmund Burke demonstrated in his On the Sublime and the Beautiful, 1756, two
terminologies, delight and sublime , were defined. As declaring that the self preservation would
eventually lead to pain and danger, Edmund says that people are delightful when they have a clear
sense of the consequences of self preservation, but are not affected by them; meanwhile, sublime
excites the delight . By connecting these definitions to the Homeric Hymn, I view The Iliad as the
perfect match of Edmund s interpretations. Gods in the Iliad need human beings only because their
pain and suffering can fulfill god s selfish pursuing of delight and sublime . Gods look for delight on
personal wills by intervening or not involving, and multitudinous pains originated from god s process
of pursuing sublime .
Certain gods pursue delight by harming people on their personal wills. Apollo, the god of the sun, has
been a typical reflection of how selfish all gods deal with mortals in the Iliad. At the beginning of the
story, Apollo had already swept a fatal plague through the army men were dying and all because
Agamemnon spurned Apollo s priest (I 11 12). The entire cause of spreading the plague was that the
daughter of one of his priests was captured as spoil of winning a battle by Agamemnon, the leader of
Achaean army. By only defending his illusory reputation and the feedback for his prayer, Apollo led

The Study of Cognitive amp; Affective Bases of Psychology
Cognitive and affective psychology is the empirical branch of psychology, which aims to answer all
questions regarding human activities, related to knowledge and emotions, such as, how we think,
learn, and remember. It is grounded on the theory that thoughts and emotions affect our behavior;
furthermore, behavior can be changed through a modification of our thoughts or emotions. Cognitive
psychologists examine how our minds obtain, apply, organize, and retrieve information. In addition,
the topics of attention, decision making, critical thinking, reasoning, creativity, memory, perception,

Through investigating such differences, cognitive psychologists hope to learn how to treat certain
disorders, and work towards finding ways to help reviving their normal perception.
Memory is the means by which we draw on our past experiences in order to use this information in the
present (Sternberg, 1999). Memory is essential to all our lives on an emotional level, as well as on a
survival level. Without insight about the past, there would not be a way to operate in the present, or to
plan; further, we would not be able to learn anything new. Cognitive psychologists do not solely aim
to understand how our memories are made, but why the memory of humans works the way, it does.
The study of Cognitive Psychology focuses on arenas of memory such as: childhood amnesia,
memory biases, false memories, and the relationships we have between our emotions and memory.
Decision making involves cognitions from many different levels. Cognitive psychologists are
currently studying the logic and rationality people use when making choices. The human mind is an
exceptional tool when it comes to problem solving skills. How these processes occur in our brains is

Brain-Computer and Brain-Machine Interfaces Applied to the...
Over the years, brain computer interfaces (BCIs), or brain machine interfaces (BMIs), have advanced
into a technology that can be regularly be applied to the medical field. BCIs have been used for
rehabilitative purposes, such as patients suffering from loss of speech and motor functions. Every year,
approximately 795,000 people suffer a stroke. Out of these people, 600,000 of these are first attacks
and 185,000 are recurrent attacks [9]. Stroke patients often suffer from paralysis and loss of speech.
The use of BCIs can be highly beneficial to these patients, as well as to patients suffering from other
diseases and traumatic injuries that result in loss of speech and motor function. Besides this, BCIs can
also be useful in other areas of the medical field besides rehabilitative purposes. This technology,
which was once only seen science fiction books and movies, is now becoming a realistic approach to
treating patients. A BCI allows control of computers with the regulation of the patient s brain activity
alone. There are invasive BCIs that are primarily used in animal models where electrodes are
implanted into the brain tissue, and noninvasive BCIs that use EEG recordings in humans. Much
research has been done on using BCIs for stroke patients who suffer from paralysis and loss of motor
function. The goal is to use BCIs to help these patients recover communication and motor function

The delays and choices of the Wingfield family are their ways of searching for a purpose in life. In the
play, you can see the character s attempt to delaying choices. However, you can also see how others
choices have affected each other. The husband of Amanda, and the father of Tom and Laura left. The
abandonment plays through out; however, it is more about his choice of leaving the family behind.
You can also realize Tom s delay of leaving by his nightly escapes. Laura is escaping anything that

life choices, both Tom and Laura. Pursuit plays an enormous role in The Glass Menagerie. Tom and
Laura s father pursued the lifestyle of the open road. Amanda wanted a better life for Laura causing

yet yearning for this is not reality. This caused even more strife within the family. Jim pursued women
whom he based off their aesthetics and popularity. However, Tom is not only pursing but also pursued.
Tom acts as a duel role in the play by being a narrator and protagonist. The play comes from the
perspective of Tom s memories. He participates as both a character within the play recalling his own

A Social Worker Coordinator On The United States
Upon learning from a Connecticut National Guard recruiter that I was ineligible to enlist in any branch

was devastated. However, despite this devastation, it was my desire to serve and to be a part of the
military culture that became the driving force behind the decision to become a certified Military

this career does not involve being on the front lines, I can still provide direct services to the children

twofold sense of God s righteousness: (1) His personal righteousness and (2) the righteousness with
which he justifies sinners on the ground of faith. Through faith for faith accents the fact that not only
does righteousness of God is shown to man through faith but it is also shown to everyone who

But creation can once again find God s righteousness through faith in Jesus Christ, apart from works
of the law (3:21 31). Then their righteousness will be reckoned because of their faith in Jesus Christ
(4:1 25). God showed His love for creation while they were still yet sinners when He son, Jesus Christ
died for them. Through the righteousness of Jesus Christ and His obedience many will be made
righteous. Creation is then set free from sin, and become slaves to righteousness. Since Christ is now
in creation, their bodies are dead to sin, but their spirits are alive because of God s righteousness (5:1

The Inuit People Essay
The Inuit People
The word Eskimo is not a proper Eskimo word. It means eaters of raw meat and was used by the
Algonquin Indians of eastern Canada for their neighbours who wore animal skin clothing and were
ruthless hunters. The name became commonly employed by European explorers and now is generally
used, even by them. Their own term for themselves is Inuit which means the real people.
The Inuit developed a way of life well suited to their Arctic environment, based on fishing; hunting
seals, whales, and walruses in the ocean; and hunting caribou, polar bears, and other game on land.
They lived in tents or travelled in skin covered boats called kayaks and umiaks in summer, and stayed

Although some groups are settled on rivers and depend on fishing, and others follow inland caribou
herds, most Eskimo s traditionally have lived primarily as hunters of maritime mammals (seals,
walrus, and whales), they have always been situated near the sea.
Settlement
In all Eskimo areas a yearly cycle took place in which groups spent the winter together in a larger
group and then moved into smaller groups. Such seasonal congregating and breaking up of settlements
occurred even in Greenland and western Alaska ; during the summer, people would leave the
permanent communities and live in animal skin tents at favourite spots for seal hunting, for fishing, or
for collecting birds, eggs, and plants. The igloo (from an Eskimo word meaning home ) was
constructed of packed snow and used only during the winter, villages of igloos were built on the firm
ocean ice of the central Arctic to help seal hunting through holes in the ice. They were also used as
temporary structures in Greenland and in parts of Canada and Alaska.
Food
The traditional method of hunting seals during winter through the frozen ocean ice was most typical of
the Eskimo of north central Canada. Since seals are mammals and must breathe, they scratch a number
of holes through the ice as it begins to freeze and periodically return to them for air.

Leper In John Knowles A Separate Peace
And you told me about Leper, that he s gone crazy. That s the word, we might as well admit it. Leper s
gone crazy. When I heard that about Leper, then I knew that the war was real, this war and all wars. If
a war can drive somebody crazy, then it s real alright (Knowles 163). This excerpt from John Knowles
novel A Separate Peace is the realization from a young student about his classmate, Elwin Leper
Lepellier. Leper s sobriquet demonstrates he is unusual and an outcast amongst his class at The Devon
School. Leper, a timid, naive, and innocent 17 year old, shocks his peers when he is the first to enlist
in the war. He soon returns after escaping from training, mentally broken and an altered character.
Thus, Leper suffers from post traumatic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of the novel, Leper is very non confrontational and timid. For instance, Leper closed
his mouth as though forever. He didn t argue or refuse. He didn t back away. He became inanimate.
When his classmates ar dangerously jumping from a tree, Leper does not join them. In addition,
...Leper looked up in anguish, shrank away from the ball, and voiced his first thought, a typical one. I
don t want it! (Knowles 39). When passed the ball in a game, Leper , who is not competitive, refuses
the ball. This timid nature dramatically changes after Leper returns from training. He confronts his
friend Gene. It s you we happen to be talking about now. Like a savage underneath. Like, now there
was the blind confusion in his eyes again, a wild slyness around his mouth, Like that time you
knocked Finny out of the tree (Knowles 145), something that would have been too daunting and
intimidating for Leper to before. Leper also testified against Gene in their class court, Leper entered
ahead of the other two. He looked unusually well; his face glowing , his eyes were bright, his manner
was all energy. Yes? he said in a clear voice, resonant even in this room, What can I do for you? He
made this confident remark almost but not quite to Phineas...Finny muttered something which was too
indecisive for Leper, who turned with a clearly energetic gesture toward Brinker (Knowles 173). In the
end, this new confident and bold nature shows that Leper s character has changed

What have you learnt so far?
In marine biology this year we have covered many topics. We began the by learning to snorkel safely,
in this topic we spent a couple of weeks learning the correct techniques and safety measures to snorkel
safely. During this time, we went on many trips out of school to go on dives as a group to practice our
skills for the final practical examination. After completing the snorkelling component of the marine
biology course we went on to learn about how to maintain a temperate marine aquarium. In this topic
we firstly learnt how to set up a temperate marine aquarium, then went fishing to fil our tanks. Once
these tasks where completed we learnt about all of the step needed to ensure that the aquarium was
successful in keeping the marine animals alive, this included learning about the pump system, how to
clean the tank and how to do the various chemical tests to see if the water was in a suitable condition
for the animals to live in. after learning about how to maintain a temperate aquarium we looked into
local marine issues such as seals in the Coorong and local sharks.

Corporate Social Responsibility Of Exxonmobil And Shell
Oil is the basis of industrial production and the necessity of economic development. Human life can
not be separated from the oil. Mobil was found in 1882 and is the largest producer of oil, natural gas
and oil refineries in the world (Mobil, 2014). Shell is made of the Royal oil of Holland and the United
Kingdom Mobil, and is the largest producer of oil, gas, and petrochemicals, and is the largest retailer
of automotive fuels and lubricants (Shell, 2015). As two world s largest oil companies, Mobil and
Shell play key roles in different areas, especially in the area of corporate social responsibility, which
contains extensive content referring to workers, customers, environment, and community. This essay
will compare and evaluate corporate social responsibility of ExxonMobil and Shell in the criterion of
safety, sustainability and education.
Safety is more than only a priority, but a core value and an integral part of the culture in ExxonMobil
and Shell. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They both made the great contribution to take their corporate social responsibility. However, in the
aspect of safety, Shell is better than Mobil because what the Shell has done are more comprehensive,
considering the environment safety and energy safety. In addition, in the aspect of the environment,
ExxonMobil did worse than Shell because Mobil has difficulty in keeping a balance between profit
and the environment while Shell enhanced benefits of company and environment at the same time. In
the aspect of education, Mobil and Shell are both well done because though Mobil has cost much
more money than Shell, the direction of action in the education of these two companies is consistent.
To sum up, Shell did better than Mobil in corporate social responsibility. From these two company, it
is easy to understand that the ultimate intention of the emphasis on CSR is to realize ecological,
economic and socially sustainable

Ethics, Law Ethics And Ethics
When I hear the word ethics, the first thing that comes to my mind is the moral code, standards or
values on how we should act as person, these are the rules by which we make decisions between right
and wrong or good and bad. Therefore, we based on these rules to make judgments. If a person doesn t
follow those moral standards or values we automatically think that person is a bad person or vice
versa. We find ethical standards in everywhere we go. There are Medical ethics, Law ethics, Business
ethics and many more but I want to focus right now on Business Ethics. It is important that every
business has a moral code to follow. This will help not only the employees but also the customers of
the company to know, appreciate and respect the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By using this ethical procedure that I am going to describe later it will allow your company to achieve
all its organizational goals while protecting and staying honest to not only its employees but to its
customers. In fact, this will allow the company to make sure if it s personal and organizational
objectives are line up.
Every business should have some unique features that constitute its aims. There are some features that
I think every company should have...
1.Good business skills: By this, I mean that shareholders, board of directors, CEOs, managers in the
company should have experience and knowledge on how to run a business. Not every person can run a
business. They should know what they are doing; they should know how to make smart decisions that
will benefit the business.
2.Social Responsibility: By this, I mean that every business should not only focus on making profits
but on how to help society. Although making money is the motivation that keeps a company going but
it is essential that the organization value also the society and the people that help the company keep
going.
3.Human Satisfaction: By this, I mean that every business should find ways on how to satisfy their
clients, employees, suppliers, etc. because a happy client is a happy business. If a
client/supplier/employee is not happy with the service provided, keep in mind that he/she is not going

The Holiday Season Is Upon Us Once Again
The Holiday season is upon us once again. As usual there are lot of arguments about whether you
should say Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays or some other greeting.
Wishing someone happiness on a certain holiday celebration is not like wishing someone good
morning. It is a greeting that should be tailored to the person that it is being said to. Think about it if
you are at a mall and you see someone wearing a Santa hat with arm loads of brightly wrapped gifts
what holiday do you think they are celebrating? My guess is Christmas, so why would I tell that
person Happy Holidays?
The only time that I think Happy Holidays is acceptable is when you do not know the person well
enough to know what holidays they celebrate.
People worry so much about offending people but by reverting to such a cold non greeting you offend
anyway.
I grew up in a Christian home and I continue to practice Christianity but the most thoughtful gift I ever
received came from someone who did not celebrate Christmas. I received a gift from a person from
India who was a practicing Hindu, he was in this country on a work visa. He went home to India and
when he came back he brought me a Christmas gift.
I was blown a way that someone who doesn t even celebrate Christmas brought me, someone of
another faith and race a gift to help me celebrate. I asked him why and he said that he knows I
celebrate Christmas and he wanted my celebration to be special. He went on to say that wishing you

Essay on Department Store Marketing Comparison
1. I have chosen to discuss and compare the department store industry. I have chosen this industry
because I live in Southern California where the retail sector is a major part of business. Shopping
malls are prevalent everywhere. I have seen and experienced all the differences among class and
status. With a wide variety of demographics in Southern California, there are a number of shops and
stores to choose from. Department stores range from discount warehouses such as Wal Mart, mid
range stores such as JC Penney, and high end stores like Nordstrom. I am going to discuss the

JC Penney: Product: Like its two competitors, JC Penney offers a variety of tangible goods for sale.
JC Penney caters to its customers with higher end products at an affordable price. It is similar to
Nordstrom s in the types of goods offered. It differs from Wal Mart because it has less variety. JC
Penney offers clothing, bed and bath products, home items, clothing accessories, and patio furniture.
Clothing is the main area of production for JC Penney and accounts for more than 50% of sales.
Price: JC Penney has recently decided to move to three kinds of prices: everyday, monthly specials,
and clearances. They came to this strategy through a variety of studies. First, using past sales data, the
company looked at consumers actual purchasing behavior, and came up with what it terms Fair and
Square pricing, which means shoppers can expect lower prices in stores at all times. To reach this
conclusion, research showed 72% of JC Penney s revenue came from selling items priced at least 50%
off. Thus, in the example cited in most recent news stories about the Fair and Square strategy, a T shirt
that had retailed for US$14 but typically sold after markdowns at US$6, would now be priced at a
US$7 every day. Part two of Fair and Square means monthly deals, and in the T shirt example,

Pinto Case Analysis Essay
Calculate the total cost if all the fixes for the Pinto gas tank problem had been performed.

management s position on the fixes? Most of Ford s management was unconcerned about the fixes to
the Pinto if it cost extra money. Instead, the chain of command signed off to their superiors all the way
until the decision reached Iacocca. Using the decision models you have learned, list some of the
analysis questions and issues management missed in making its decision to go forward with

What is the symbolic potential of your action? Ford doesn t care about the safety of their customers
Did the Pinto design violate any laws? Yes; there is a federal regulation in place requiring all
automobiles manufactured in 1972 to be able to withstand a 21 mph fixed barrier impact without
significant fuel spillage. Those cars made after 1973 have to withstand a 30 mph fixed barrier impact.
The Pinto failed to meet both of these standards before release and upon release. Was Ford simply
answering a public demand for a small, fuel efficient, and inexpensive auto? They were yes, however
doing so while knowingly endangering lives, is not the correct or ethical way to provide a product that
is demanded by the market. I believe that if Ford had spent the money in developing the Pinto
correctly, then the company could have saved face as well as millions of dollars in litigation and

Friendly Competition and Payola Schemes after the Act
The Congress passed the Telecommunications act of 1996 to promote competition and media crossing;
but it also resulted in many company mergers from across different media spectrums which altered the

many individuals instead big companies, (2) the companies that own Radio Stations and Music
Industries that promote music and generate sales which is favorable on both ends. Based off of

as if with this information it can open up more room for investigation as far as learning how the
payola procedures play out and how does radio become more dominant than the actual music industry
who produces the music. With this piece of knowledge, I find myself wanting to reject the idea of
radio being available to help us find new music, instead I see it as a way to promote certain artists and
profit off of them without actually paying their songs because its good. These industries are continuing
to push for consumerism when in reality it should be set up as a world of knowledge that teaches
everyone through their lyrics and the information they put out. Its should not be this easy to influence

  • 2. Determining Primortem Trauma in Forsic Pathology and... There are many factors involved in the determination of perimortem trauma time in both forensic pathology and forensic anthropology. This is critical information when it comes to legal issues or the interpretation of prehistoric bone fractures. There is an extensive difference in fracture properties that depend both on the time that has passed since death, and the type of environment where the specimen has been exposed after death. A study was performed by Luis Coelho and Hugo F.V. Cardoso, the purpose of this study was to determine the effects of different environments and the time of exposure in the environment on bone fracture patterns. They are taking a Forensic anthropological approach in which bone tissue quality (whether the bone is dry(postmortem) or fresh (perimortem)), is used, instead of using time intervals relative to the tume of death. The Fractured Freshness Index, which combines fracture angle, fracture surface, and fracture outline as criteria to determine the time of bone fracture, was used along with postmortem interval. Fresh limbs from pig and goat were exposed to three different environments. Seven sets of ten segments of the limbs were either buried, submerged, or left on ground surface. Five segments were pig and five were goat. Each sets were buried within twenty eight days of the previous. The postmortem intervals were 28, 56, 84, 112, 140, 168, and 196 days. The first set was buried for 196 days and the last set was buried for 28 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Online Classes vs. Traditional Classroom Learning Online Classes vs. Traditional Classroom Learning When deciding to take college courses there are many choices you have to make. One of the more important choices is where you plan to take your classes. Online classes are becoming increasingly popular because they can be easier to fit into a busy schedule, but some people still argue that nothing beats a traditional classroom setting. Having the option of online classes makes continuing an education more appealing to people that have to balance many other responsibilities like family, jobs, etc. Online classes and the traditional classroom setting both offer many of the same advantages. They both provide the student with the same course content so there is no loss of curriculum between the two. Both demand the same time investment for learning, studying, taking exams, completing papers, and so on. Although it seems easy to think that with doing all of your school work online there isn t any personal interaction with professors and peers, however, that is a common misconception. Online classes, like traditional ones, require a degree of contact with your peers and professors. It may not be as personal interaction as raising your hand and being called on, but you can e mail your professor at any time and there are discussion boards and forums available for fellow students to communicate and help each other out. One of the most significant differences between taking online classes and having the traditional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Sorrowful Woman Essay Sorrowful Woman 1. FIRST RESPONSE. How did you respond to the excerpt from A SECRET SORROW and to A Sorrowful Woman ? Do you like one more than the other? Is one of the women Faye or Godwin s unnamed wife more likable than the other? Why do you think you respond the way you do to the characters and the stories is your response intellectual, emotional, a result of authorial intent, a mix of these, or something else entirely? Both writings were very well written and very enjoyable to read. The Sorrowful Woman and A Secret Sorrow were similar, although they were very different, due to the inner sorrow they both faced. I enjoyed reading A Secret Sorrow more than The Sorrowful Woman due to the fact that I was able to somewhat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She was staring at his chest, blindly, not knowing what to think, not thinking at all. He lifter her chin, gently. Look at me Faye. She did, but his face was a blur. Faye, we re in this together you and I. Don t you see that? It s not just your problem, it s ours. In A Sorrowful Woman , I found the husband s nurturing ways most appealing. He completely rearranged his life to make sure that his wife was as comfortable as possible. The passage that most signifies this is found on page 41. With great care he rearranged his life. He got up hours early, did the shopping, cooked the breakfast, took the boy to nursery school. We will manage, he said, until you re better, however long that is. He did his work, collected the boy from the school, came home and made the supper, washed the dishes, got the child to bed. He managed everything. One evening, just as she was on the verge of swallowing her draught, there was a timid knock on her door. The little boy came in wearing his pajamas. Daddy has fallen asleep on my bed and I can t get in. There s not room. In A Sorrowful Woman what I found most unappealing was that even though the husband clearly loved her, instead of getting her the help she clearly needed, he let her sickness overcome her. 3. • 5. Using Literary Devices In The Sixth Sense After recently watching The Sixth Sense I realized that there is a great use of devices in the film. The Sixth Sense is about a child psychologist Dr. Malcolm, who tries to help a child defeat his dark secret. I think this movie is a prime example of using literary devices such as, foreshadowing and symbolism within the script. I really enjoyed this film for these reasons and would recommend it everyone. There are many instances in which these devices are used in the film, some are much more noticeable than the others. This movie has a really high replay value because, you always notice something new in regards to symbolism. Also the other view points that you can see the story after knowing what happens in the dramatic ending. The many uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The biggest aspect of foreshadowing used in this movie is the fact that Malcolm only interacts with Cole during the entire movie after his death. This is something that is hard to notice on the first time you watch this film. This aspect gives the film high replay value. When Malcolm is sitting in the living room with Cole s mother the viewer assumes that they are both talking when Cole arrives home from school, when in reality she doesn t even notice Malcolm. When Malcolm attends Cole s plays at his school no one asks him why he s there or anything at all. My favorite example of this is, there are other parents recording the play and are sitting directly behind Malcolm. If they were able to see him, Malcolm would be in the way of the shot. The other parents see right through him because he is dead, I think that this is brilliant foreshadowing for the twist at the end of the film. The temperature change is one of the more obvious uses of foreshadowing in the movie. The temperature dropped in the film when a ghost was upset. A the start of one of the scenes, there is a close up on the thermostat changing to cold by itself. This is foreshadowing on the upset ghosts that are about to visit ... • 6. Letter to Lóreal Canada Regarding Avoiding Animal Testing DATE: April 03, 2014 TO: K. Voltan, Vice President FROM: Rob Geis, Marketing Executive SUBJECT: Higher Demand for Non Animal Tested Cosmetic Products INTRODUCTION L Oréal Canada and Animal Testing There has been some controversy regarding L Oréal Canada and their use of animal testing in their cosmetic products. For certifications regarding safety, we currently possess 86% of manufacturing facilities that are either OHSAS 18001 or VPP certified. (L Oréal Canada, 2014) Safety is a priority for us at L Oréal Canada to ensure that our products are safe for our consumers so that they can enjoy the beauty of our cosmetic products. (CFHS, 2014) L Oréal Canada should work hard to ensure that all of our manufacturing faculties comply with the standards of CCAC so that our faculties can be certified for good animal practices as well. It is important that our researchers and manufacturers find alternative methods to animal testing, and only resort to the use of animals when all else fails. If there is no option but to use animals for the testing of cosmetic products, the number of animals used should be minimized, and pain and discomfort for those animals should be reduced as well. This is how the implementation of the three R s of ethics should be used with regards to animals in research so that we have good business practices and consumers will be more willing to purchase our products. Sections 444 447 under the Criminal Code of Canada protects the rights of animals against cruelty, but it the provincial legislation that deals with the use of animals in research. (CFHS, 2014) Quebec has a specific legislation for animals in research, but this legislation does not have the CCAC guidelines implemented into the legislation. (CFHS, 2014) At L Oréal Canada, since we are located in Montreal, we should focus on incorporating CCAC guidelines into our business practices even though the provincial legalisation does not make it a requirement. This is important because consumers want to purchase products from companies that have good business practices and protect the rights of animals. Therefore our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay on The Fight to Legalize Marijuana The Fight to Legalize Marijuana Marijuana is probably the most recreational and illegal drug in the world. The most significant ingredient is delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinal, it is commonly referred to it abbreviated form THC. This drug should not be legalized because it would lead to hard core drugs, there would be an increase in obesity, and it affects the heart, lungs and the brain. There are legal, social, and medical reasons that marijuana should not be decriminalized. Some legal reasons that marijuana shouldn t be decriminalized are it would lead to experimenting with more hard core drugs such as heroin and cocaine. It will also increase in crime and car accidents because it would be harder to determine if a person is driving high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some medical reasons that marijuana shouldn t be decriminalized are that it has long and short terms effects. Examples of the short term outcomes include memory loss, difficulty with thinking, loss of motor skills and increased heart rate. According to the National Institutes of Health show that someone smoking about five joints per week is taking in as many cancer causing chemicals as someone smoking a pack of cigarettes every day. There is no science proof that smoked marijuana can be used for medication. Since cannabis plants are polluted with a range of fungal spores, smoking marijuana may increase the risk of infectious organisms. Taradiff, J. Marijuana and the War on Drugs. Marijuana. Farmington Hills, Michigan: Thomas Gale, 2008. 157. Print. The Drug Enforcement Administration situations on fighting to legalize medical marijuana are based on two proposals: the scientific field views marijuana as a treatment while the DEA targets sick and dying people using the drug. Neither suggestion is true, science proved it is not medicine and it is not safe to use. The DEA targets on criminal trafficking and not the sick and dying. In 1970 congress authorized laws against marijuana based on that there is no logically proven medical value. Like the Food and Drug Administration, which is responsible for authorizing drugs safe an effective medicine has declined to approve smoked marijuana for any circumstance or disease. • 8. Bishop Orders His Tomb at Saint Praxed s Church and The... Bishop Orders His Tomb at Saint Praxed s Church and The Love Song of Alfred J. Prufrock The span of time from the Victorian age of Literature to the Modernism of the 20th century wrought many changes in poetry style and literary thinking. While both eras contained elements of self scrutiny, the various forms and reasoning behind such thinking were vastly different. The Victorian age, with it s new industrialization of society, brought to poetry and literature the fictional character, seeing the world from another s eyes. It was also a time in which Victorian authors and intellectuals found a way to reassert religious ideas (Longman, p. 1790). Society was questioning the ideals of religion, yet people wanted to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Do I live, am I dead? (13) reveals the uncertainty of the bishops thoughts as he contemplates death, wondering if others see that he deserves such a fine tomb. In Eliot s poem, Prufrock poses his own questioning, Do I dare? (38) and Do I dare/ disturb the universe? (45 46) which reflects his own personal conflict as he struggles to decide on whether he should take action, any action in his own life. Although these monologues contain the same elements of self questioning, they are vastly different, both in style and in tone. The bishop of Browning s poem sees himself as a great man, How I earned the prize! (33). He orders this stately tomb of lapis (102) and antique black basalt (53 54), a tomb so rich such as a king or queen might be deserving of. This gives us a clear picture that he thinks highly of himself, and he wants others to see the same, even after he is dead, the tomb much like a shrine of great importance. In contrast, Alfred J. Prufrock of Eliot s poem, feels no such greatness in himself. He is filled with vast uncertainty so that every small decision is wrought with conflict, and as such, he never does anything. I have measured out my life with coffee spoons (51) shows us that his life was characterized by small measures, having done no great work. From the banners waving slowly in the summer breeze to the decorations and tender feeling of love radiating from every citizen, Hitomi couldn t imagine anywhere she would rather be. Not even her homelands. Her eyes were wide behind the fabric that covered half of the genin s face, a small smile appearing on her face as she walked through the streets alone. She would have to fly up later and get a better view, before they did the fireworks, since she couldn t remember what the village looked like from the air. The teenager s face lit up as she jogged over to the flower shop s door, tugging it open. Hitomi s senses were bombarded from all the blossoms and plants that filled the store. This is so beautiful... Hi there, can I help you, sir? Too engrossed by the colors and scents of the flower shop, Hitomi didn t realize that the employee was addressing her. • 11. Puritanism and Pragmatism Essay Although they lived on the same continent, John Winthrop and Benjamin Franklin lived in very different worlds. These men are similar in some respects, but overwhelmingly they are different. For example, John Winthrop and Benjamin Franklin can be considered leaders in their time frame. Winthrop led the Puritans; Franklin led his country to war. Both men also possessed many of the same virtues such as patience and work ethic. Despite these similarities, John Winthrop and Benjamin Franklin had a different style of living and a different philosophy of life. These differences are most notable in regards to religion, economics, and science. Perhaps the greatest difference between Winthrop and Franklin was their view of religion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The initial New England ideal of a closely knit, covenanted community proved difficult to maintain in the face of economic growth (52). The region began to grow not only in population, but also in prosperity. The Puritans were expected to support the church by giving money to their ministers. The later generations born in Massachusetts Bay were more interested in keeping their wealth than fearing the wrath of God. New England merchants were accused of making too much money; they began to want relief and freedom from the straitjacket of Puritanism. The life of Benjamin Franklin is a typically rags to riches story. He knew that hard work would pay off in the end, and by the age of forty two he had accumulated sufficient wealth to reach his goal of the ‘free and easy life (54). Unlike Winthrop, Franklin believed that the money one earns is rightfully his own. Winthrop s and Franklin s economic philosophies reflected the time period in which they lived. A final difference between Winthrop and Franklin dealt with their notions of science. Naturally, for the Puritans, science meshed with religion. It says on page 60, Nature was God s handiwork; its processes showed the effect of His guidance. Consequently, to study natural phenomena was to observe the wisdom, power, and glory of God. Science for the Puritan mind was an act of worship. On the other hand, Franklin was determined to understand how things work; he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whether they volunteered or were drafted, one out of ten soldiers did not survive the war. With the average age of the men being just twenty one, they were not grown up enough nor mature enough to deal with such tragedy, and grotesque, unspeakable encounters. During the span of the twenty four years that the U.S. helped fight in the Vietnam War; 58,148 men and women died in action. Families, friends, and neighbors all fought for the same cause and each had their own story. Rat Kiley hurt so much that he needed to hurt something back in order to portray his true feelings upon the audience and make them feel them as well. An image of this poor little suffering Viet Cong buffalo, that refuses to die, provides far more of a vivid testament to war than the hallow cry of war is hell . On the other hand, the story about the soldier and the grenade conveys the profound truth that heroism in battle does not always save lives. Sometimes it can even make things worse. Most people do not realize that the truth of a story does not lie in the details but rather in the gut reaction that you feel while listening to it. O Brien incorporates polysyndeton into his stories to create that gut reaction: a sense of sympathy for the soldiers fighting. He stresses the fact that the soldier s youth hinders their ability to handle such tragic and difficult situations. O Brien uses polysyndeton to emphasize the youth and immaturity of the men fighting in the war. Most men came into the war being just boys in their teens or early twenties. They were still children, students and boyfriends who spent their time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This will be because the collective blacks will feel more segregated from their lighter skinned counterparts. This is the same with other skin colors that may purposely mate with someone who possesses milky, white skin in order to perpetuate this idealized characteristic in their child, because the own dismay for their own skin color, precedent by the colorism fluxes in society, is influential because parents do not want their child to go through the social maltreatment they endured. • 33. Delight In The Iliad According to what Edmund Burke demonstrated in his On the Sublime and the Beautiful, 1756, two terminologies, delight and sublime , were defined. As declaring that the self preservation would eventually lead to pain and danger, Edmund says that people are delightful when they have a clear sense of the consequences of self preservation, but are not affected by them; meanwhile, sublime excites the delight . By connecting these definitions to the Homeric Hymn, I view The Iliad as the perfect match of Edmund s interpretations. Gods in the Iliad need human beings only because their pain and suffering can fulfill god s selfish pursuing of delight and sublime . Gods look for delight on personal wills by intervening or not involving, and multitudinous pains originated from god s process of pursuing sublime . Certain gods pursue delight by harming people on their personal wills. Apollo, the god of the sun, has been a typical reflection of how selfish all gods deal with mortals in the Iliad. At the beginning of the story, Apollo had already swept a fatal plague through the army men were dying and all because Agamemnon spurned Apollo s priest (I 11 12). The entire cause of spreading the plague was that the daughter of one of his priests was captured as spoil of winning a battle by Agamemnon, the leader of Achaean army. Memory is the means by which we draw on our past experiences in order to use this information in the present (Sternberg, 1999). Memory is essential to all our lives on an emotional level, as well as on a survival level. Without insight about the past, there would not be a way to operate in the present, or to plan; further, we would not be able to learn anything new. Cognitive psychologists do not solely aim to understand how our memories are made, but why the memory of humans works the way, it does. The study of Cognitive Psychology focuses on arenas of memory such as: childhood amnesia, memory biases, false memories, and the relationships we have between our emotions and memory. Decision making involves cognitions from many different levels. Cognitive psychologists are currently studying the logic and rationality people use when making choices. Over the years, brain computer interfaces (BCIs), or brain machine interfaces (BMIs), have advanced into a technology that can be regularly be applied to the medical field. BCIs have been used for rehabilitative purposes, such as patients suffering from loss of speech and motor functions. Every year, approximately 795,000 people suffer a stroke. Out of these people, 600,000 of these are first attacks and 185,000 are recurrent attacks [9]. Stroke patients often suffer from paralysis and loss of speech. The use of BCIs can be highly beneficial to these patients, as well as to patients suffering from other diseases and traumatic injuries that result in loss of speech and motor function. Besides this, BCIs can also be useful in other areas of the medical field besides rehabilitative purposes. This technology, which was once only seen science fiction books and movies, is now becoming a realistic approach to treating patients. A BCI allows control of computers with the regulation of the patient s brain activity alone. There are invasive BCIs that are primarily used in animal models where electrodes are implanted into the brain tissue, and noninvasive BCIs that use EEG recordings in humans. Much research has been done on using BCIs for stroke patients who suffer from paralysis and loss of motor function. The goal is to use BCIs to help these patients recover communication and motor function again. Over the years, much research has been conducted on patients who cannot communicate ... Such seasonal congregating and breaking up of settlements occurred even in Greenland and western Alaska ; during the summer, people would leave the permanent communities and live in animal skin tents at favourite spots for seal hunting, for fishing, or for collecting birds, eggs, and plants. The igloo (from an Eskimo word meaning home ) was constructed of packed snow and used only during the winter, villages of igloos were built on the firm ocean ice of the central Arctic to help seal hunting through holes in the ice.
