Typical and Atypical Abuse Essay
Typical and Atypical Abuse
Physical and emotional abuse can originate from any source but the majority of the abuse generates
from parental or adult figures and is direct toward a timid figure, typically a child. The abuser
commonly chooses a more timid recipient because they will be less likely to stand up against the
abuser. Physical abuse is maltreatment that involves actual contact between one body part of a person
and an other body part of an other person, such as hitting or slapping. Emotional abuse consists of just
the opposite: maltreatment that is directed to harming the individual psychologically, such as negative
comments or put downs (National Exchange Club Foundation, 2000).
Regardless of whom the abuse is directed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They will typically have more difficulty learning in the classroom because of responses similar to
these (Prothrow Smith, December 1995). A student that is being abused at home is more likely to be
withdrawn in the classroom and have a lower self esteem level because they feel that if they answer a
question incorrectly they will be negatively punished in some manor (NAEYC, 1997). Students show
an inability to cope with the stress levels that are associated with school and are therefore more likely
to give up. In fact, maltreated children do not differ on perceived academic ability but their scores on
actual tests are significantly lower (Kinard, 2001). One major area that is extremely important to the
growth of children is how they interact with other children while at school. Abuse in the home will
negatively effect social growth because it influences how comfortable a child feels around other
people. The fear of punishment, physical or verbal, determines how a child approaches an other child.
Every student in school will most likely be unable to perfect each subject, but a student that is abused
is unable to grasp this concept. They feel the need to perfect each subject and when they do not they
feel like a failure. Failure is most likely not an option because, to the majority of the abused, failure
equals some kind of

Comparing the Novel and Movie of Steinbeck s Of Mice and Men
Comparing the Novel and Movie of Steinbeck s Of Mice and Men
Who doesn t know of John Steinbeck s classic novel Of Mice and Men ? It is a novel that almost
everyone educated in the United States has either read it or pretended to read it. But how many have
seen the 1992 film Of Mice and
Men ? The relative obscurity of 1992 screen version of this timeless drama does not mean that it was
poorly done. Just the contrary is true, it is one of the best film adaptations of a novel that I have seen.
The novel and the film are very similar. The Steinbeck s novel could be thought of as the screenplay s
first draft. There were some small changes, but they were instituted for the good of the film. I liked the
film better than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is believable to think the novel was originally a play and then was adapted into book form because
there are only four different scenes in the entire novel. Chapter one is set at the
Salinas River, chapter two and three are in the bunkhouse, chapter four in
Crook s room, chapter five is in the barn, and chapter six is at the river again.
Scenes had to be added to the film to keep the audience from getting bored.
Dialogue was deleted to help move the story along. The only way we get background information
about George and Lennie in the novel is through their dialogue. There was less dialogue in the film
because the audience can learn the background information from visual cues from the added scenes.
For instance, in the novel, George and Lennie speak of walking ten miles after being forced off the bus
by the driver. But in the film, we see the driver kick the pair off of the bus. Similarly, George only
speaks of the trouble that Lennie had gotten them into in the town of Weed. But in the movie we are
able to see what happens.
Curley s wife, played by Sherilyn Fenn, plays a larger role in this film than in the novel. This character
steadily develops as layers are peeled back like an onion. The wife in this version is far more
predatory and dangerous than in Steinbeck s novel. Initially she acts quite sluttish, but she eventually
shows to be naive, lonely, and trapped in an abusive marriage. She acts as a feminist voice that

Locke And His Theory Of Motivation
Here is where I first disagree with Locke and his theory of motivation of the will according to pain
and pleasure. I think this is a difficult notion to be comfortable with. To use the formula of pleasure
minus pain equals happiness is in direct conflict with Christian teachings and the common good of all
people. Locke, being a self proclaimed Christian, is revealing himself throughout this book as actually
being non Christian, and I agree with Chappell when she stated that he was an egotist and a hedonist .
He discounts the husbands that sacrifice for their wives, the wives that sacrifice for their husbands,
parents that sacrifice for their children, siblings that sacrifice for each other, neighbors that sacrifices
for neighbors, the priests that sacrifice for the church and all people, people that sacrifice for God, and
we can go on and on and on. We are all meant to work toward the good of all and serve one another,
but not for Locke. Locke says that every intelligent Bring really seeks Happiness, which consists in
the enjoyment of pleasure, without any considerable mixtures of uneasiness . I see two was to read this
excerpt. First is to take the capital B in Bring and interpret the intelligent Being as relating to all
human being and saying this is to say all humans think that happiness is maximized pleasure and
minimized pain. And to refute this is to point back to the list of people who sacrifice pleasures and
even life for the wellbeing of others. The

Case Study Of Robert Deal From Emory University
Robert Deal from Emory University is studying to learn about plants and their memory of stress.
When plants face dry weather, their stomata shrink to reduce water loss. When a similar situation
places the plants under stress again, the plant seems to recall this experience and recovers quicker.
Robert Deal, who studies genetics and biochemistry, hopes to utilize this trait and pinpoint its gene. If
he can locate and activate the genetic material associated with this memory, he believes he can speed
up the process and cause plants to have the gene activated at all times, allowing the plants to withstand
drier and warmer temperatures. Other researchers have been striving for a similar goal, using the
genetic material of plants to create new hybrids that can withstand extreme weather. Across the globe,
scientists have been making modified plant varieties that can resist drought, a growing concern as
climate change becomes a more prominent issue. One hybrid has already existed since 2011 on the
market. The corn plant, known as DroughtGuard, was bred to resist drought. It contains a gene from a
bacteria that allows it to produce in times of water shortage. This corn crop has been approved ...

Some worry that the farmers will become dependent on corporations that produce these genetically
modified organisms. Others worry about the consumption of these modified crops and the affects they
may have on health, or that these plants may harm the ecosystem. One expert worries that the focus on
genetic tinkering draws attention away from safer methods that also provide more produce, such as
crossbreeding. However, if the efforts to create crops resistant to drought are successful, humans will
be able to resist and adapt to climate change better. While it is important to learn to adapt to climate
change, humans should also make an effort to stop and prevent it and its

The Impact Of Music On Secondary Education
Some of the most significant problems facing parents, teachers, and students is the impact of music on
secondary education. Parents and teachers alike, are continuously trying to cut the ties between
secondary students and the influences of bad music during the school day. More research is being
done on this topic to educate students, parents, and teachers. One of the main reasons secondary
students are still influenced by music during the school day is because of the lack of research. Studies
are continuously being made on this subject. In Lost in Translation: An Enculturation Effect in Music
Memory Performance , researchers and students at the University of California, with the help of their
professors, took participants who spoke English or Turkish and played music in their native tongue/
language while they read a book to see if the participants remember the music played or the book read
(Demorest, Steven M., et al.). After the study, the author states The results suggest that our cognitive
schemata for musical information are culturally derived . In conclusion the participants remembered
the music in their native tongue/ language rather than the novel they were reading. As studies like
these continue, students will become more educated on the impact of music on their secondary
education and their ancestors . Music plays an important role in culture and is a strong influence on
today s youth (White,2007). In This Is Your Brain on Music: the Science of a Human

How Plasmodium Affects The Cardiovascular System
Plasmodium is a parasite with over 100 species, but only four directly affect humans( Malaria
Parasites ). This parasite affects the circulatory system, or cardiovascular system. It s structured of
many things, and some structures are in common with animals or human cells. Even though it s
microscopic in size, it can cause a lot of damage. The parasite gets into the body from mosquitoes and
infects the bloodstream of the circulatory system.
Plasmodium affects the cardiovascular system. The cardiovascular system includes the heart, blood
vessels, and blood; it links all the parts of the body. This system carries needed materials such as
oxygen to the cells and it also takes the waste products away, like carbon dioxide. It also transports
cells that attacks disease causing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the infecting agent gets into the human s bloodstream they invade the liver within an hour; the
parasite then takes about 15 days to mature(Collins, Jeffery, E.). The infecting agent divides and forms
plasmodium merozoites which are then released into the bloodstream and infect red blood cells(
Plasmodium ). The plasmodium is an oval shaped cell, measured at about .00006 inches long and
.00004 inches wide. Plasmodium has a pellicular cisterna which makes up the golgi apparatus. The
apparatus receives materials and sends them to other parts of the cell. The plasma membrane forms the
external boundary and the merozoite coat acts like the cell membrane which lets things in and out of
the cell. It has an apicoplast that allows the parasite to invade host cells, and microtubules that work
with the inner membrane to give bulkiness to the cell. The micronemes help the cell invade the host,
and the polar rings, apical end, rhoptries and dense granules all help it invade the cell. Plasmodium
also has some things in common with animal or human cells: a nucleus, ribosomes, and a
mitochondria( Structure of Plasmodium

Oropharyngeal Airway
Respiratory emergencies can be caused by obstructions, inflammations, trauma, and several different
disease processes. The most common obstruction of the airway is the tongue. This usually occurs
when the patient has become unconscious secondary to another cause such as intoxication, low blood
sugar, or trauma. While tongue obstruction of the airway can have deadly results, it can be easily
solved by re positioning the airway using the either the jaw thrust maneuver if trauma is suspected, or
the head tilt chin lift if no trauma is suspected. Also if the patient is unconscious and has no gag reflex
you can use an oropharyngeal airway to hold the tongue up and out of the airway. However, using an
oropharyngeal airway does not mean that you can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other times severe trauma can cause pulmonary edema such as blood in the lungs. Patients who are
unresponsive for various reasons such as cardiac arrest, alcohol intoxication, or low blood sugar can
aspirate stomach contents due to the loss of their ability to protect their own airway. Aspiration can
severely impede the alveoli s ability to exchange gases. The patient can suffocate if action is not taken
promptly. The aspiration may also cause pneumonia or other types of infections that can be potentially
deadly for the patient. This is one of the reasons why managing and controlling n unconscious patient
s airway is so crucial during pre hospital care. Another critical respiratory emergency is a pulmonary
embolism. A pulmonary embolism can be caused by a blood clot, by an air bubble, by a large foreign
body in the circulatory system such as a catheter shear, or in rare cases by amniotic fluid in pregnant
females. Whatever the cause of the embolism, the results can have the same deadly consequences.
Most blood clots that become pulmonary embolisms originate in the legs of patients with poor
circulation of some type of leg

The Movie The Pact
The ones I sympathize with When I read The Pact , I felt some connection between the characters;
Sampson Davis, George Jenkins, and Hunt Rameck. Throughout their hardship and struggles, It
encouraged me to read on. But as I continued reading on, the three main characters stood out the most.
But out of those three characters, one stood out in particular. Throughout his experiences and trials, I
could see myself in that situation. In how he felt, in the manner in how he saw things around, I could
see how I would have done the same thing myself. Dr. Hunt is someone I could relate to, someone I
could see becoming friends with. There was a few encounters that I have had that is similar to Hunt s
experiences. If I had a bad grade, I had a butt whuppin coming. Feeling pressure of doing something
criminal just to impress some people that I wasn t ever close to or even consider calling them friend.
Being lovesick for someone, wanting them back. Have her but letting her go because of school and
home complications. But the one experience that got me was when Mr. Hunt s grandmother die. Even
though I m not a doctor, I still felt the same helplessness that he felt when I saw my grandfather lying
in bed, with my grandmother crying by his bedside. The man I called papa was my grandfather, my
mentor, and my friend. Always a great example for what exceptional leader was. With noble integrity
and a unique sense of human responsibility, always taking care of others. He was always

Charlie Chaplin s Contributions to the Film Industry
Charlie Chaplin Every day millions of Americans go to theaters with their families to enjoy movies.
Watching films has become one of the most popular activities to do. Although plenty of people know
of Charlie Chaplin, most do not know any real information about him. Charlie Chaplin has been a
major contributor to America s advancement in the film industry from his innovative beginnings, and
perseverance to improve and succeed, to his overall achievements in history. Charlie Chaplin was born
in South London on April 16, 1889. He was the first child of Hannah and Charles Chaplin. Charles
was vaudeville actor. Hannah was a vaudeville singer. Charlie s father was a drunk and he later left his
family when he was three years old when he found out his wife had an affair with another actor, Leo
Dryden. They soon had a child named George, who left to live with his father. Since Hannah was now
a single mother, she was struggling to find a way to provide for her children. She had another son that
was older than Charlie, from a previous relationship (Schwartz). Hannah s singing alone was not
enough to earn her the money to care for two boys. She took up sweatshop work on a sewing machine
she rented to earn extra income. Due to the small amount of income they had, Charlie s family moved
in and out of orphanages and boys homes on a regular basis. Hannah s career as a singer ended
abruptly in 1894. She lost her voice during a performance. While the crowd was getting rowdy and

The Elements Of Job Satisfaction
1.0 Introduction Job satisfaction can be defined as psychological state of how an individual feels
towards work, in other words, it is people‟s feelings and attitudes about variety of intrinsic and
extrinsic elements towards jobs and the organizations they perform their jobs in. The elements of job
satisfaction are related to pay, promotion, benefits, work nature, supervision, and relationship with
colleagues. Employees‟ satisfaction is considered as all around module of an organization‟s human
resource strategies. According to Simatwa (2011) Job satisfaction means a function which is positively
related to the degree to which one‟s personal needs are fulfilled in the job situation. Kuria (2011)
argues that employees are the most satisfied and highly productive when their job offers them security

He reviewed 32 studies on job satisfaction conducted prior to 1933 observed that job satisfaction is a
combination of psychological, physiological environmental circumstances that cause a person to say. I
am satisfied with my job . Locke defines job satisfaction as a pleasurable or positive emotional state
resulting from the appraisal of one s job or job experiences . To the extent that a person s job fulfils his
dominant need is consistent with his expectations values, the job will be satisfying. Employee job
satisfaction is supremely important in an organization because it is what productivity depends on. If
your employees are satisfied they would produce superior quality performance in optimal time and
lead to growing profits. Satisfied employees are also more likely to be creative and innovative and
come up with breakthroughs that allow a company to grow and change positively with time and

Osteocytes s Role In Bone Homeostasis
Osteocytes are the most abundant cell type in human bones and play a fundamental role in bone
homeostasis. Representing 95% of all mature bone cells and have the longest lifespan in all bone cells,
up to decades, osteocytes are the key to bone integrity1. They are initially derived from osteoblasts,
residing within bones and take part in bone metabolism through excessive communication with other
bone cell populations, including osteoblasts, osteoclasts and most importantly, osteocyte progenitors.
Osteocytes secrete soluble signalling factors that regulate both bone formation and bone dissociation.
Osteocytes have a stellate shape, with cell body of around 15 micrometers. In mature bones,
osteocytes form circular structures termed osteons, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Teenage Drinking And Driving
Drinking and driving is a big problem that affects teenagers all over the world. People would think
that with all the laws cracking down on the sale of alcohol to minors, and education about the
consequences of drinking and driving would make a difference. Everyone knows that drinking and
driving is dangerous, but don t realize it affects the driver, passengers, and people on the streets. The
laws should be stricter about underage drinking, there should be more education about the
consequences of drinking and driving, and the drinking age should not be lowered. Even though under
age drinking is illegal, teenagers are starting to drink at younger ages, which is leading to risky
behaviors (Dedel). Some common behaviors known to happen while under the influence include,
driving, property damage, rape, and other violent crimes. The major problem for teenagers is driving
while they are under the influence. The laws need to be stricter when it comes to under age drinking.
Most teenagers do not have the mindset to drink responsibly and can lead to negative effects, that
could not only harm them but harm other people too. Police need to crack down on all underage
drinkers so that nobody does anything that could harm them, like getting into a car and driving or
riding in a car with someone who is drunk.. Most teenagers don t think that drinking while they are
under the influence is a big problem. Kelly Dedel stated, Underage college students who drink heavily

The major role of primary active transport is to move sodium from the cytosol of the tubule cell into
the surrounding interstitial fluid surrounding the capillary.
b. Describe the role of primary active transport with regard to potassium (K+) and hydrogen (H+) ion
movement. As a secondary function it provides the driving force to move potassium and hydrogen
ions from the interstitial fluid to the filtrate.
c. Why is Na+ movement important with regard to movement across the membrane? The movement
of sodium ions via active transport is to generate an electrochemical gradient between the filtrate and
the interstitial fluid.
8. a. The energy stored in the sodium ion electrochemical gradient is used to transport other molecules
back toward the bloodstream (reabsorption). What nutrients are transported in this fashion? Glucose,
amino acids and other solutes being recovered from the filtrate. b. How does the sodium gradient
affect hydrogen ion movement? Active transport requires chemical energy because it is the movement
of biochemicals from areas of lower concentration to areas of higher concentration.

What Is The Five Forces Of Nestle
The Industry Environment Analysis
Compared with the general environment, the industry environment has a more direct effect on the firm
s strategic competitiveness and to earn above average returns. The intensity of industry competition
and an industry s profit potential are functions of five forces of competition such as the threat of new
entrants, bargaining power of supplier, bargaining of power buyers, threats of substitute products, and
intensity of rivalry among competitors (Hanson, D., Hitt, M., Ireland, R. D., Hoskisson, R. E., 2011,
p.48). Porter s Five Forces Model was created to act as a framework for industry analysis and business
strategy development. Porter singled out five different forces that impact competitive intensity which

Threat of Substitute Products
Due to the nature of the industry, Nestlé is afflicted with the threat of substitute goods. Ranging from

Using The Standard Mpls Data Plane
Abstract The evolution of MPLS networks have made them critically important for ISPs for the
various functions of traffic engineering, efficient network utilization and for providing L2 and L3
enterprise VPN services. All these functions are supported by complex, energy hungry and expensive
core routers with support for a wide variety of control protocols carefully combined with data plane
mechanisms. It is observed that the MPLS data plane handles simpler functions of pushing, popping
off and swapping labels and are mostly un affected by any changes to the control plane functionalities.
This paper discusses the possibility of using the standard MPLS data plane in combination with a
simple extensible control plane using OpenFlow, SDN and its applications. A Protocol implementation
is discussed to show the simplicity of the approach over existing MPLS control plane and how more
services can be supported with the new control plane.
Finally, The paper discusses how the introduction of a new map abstraction fits well with the unified
control architecture for packet and circuit networks, making the new control plane ideal for multi layer
networks.

Disadvantages Of Pilgrimages
Many pilgrimages test and enhance the faith of each believer, embarking on a once in a lifetime
journey enriched with spiritual fulfillment. Pilgrims commonly seek a specific place that is associated
with a divinity or other holy personage. One of many pilgrimages is the Hajj, located in Saudi Arabia.
It provides Muslims all around the world a sense of spiritual and psychological nourishment. While it
encourages social and cultural mixing, as well as interactions between them, each Muslim undertakes
the pilgrimage with a religious motive and faith, often enabling them to embrace cultural diversity
while seeking a spiritual cleansing of their souls and a fresh start. After the journey of the pilgrimage,
the believers bring back many religious and emotional experience that would affect them throughout
their daily life.
The Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam which occurs in the last month on the Islamic Calendar. The
Hajj is a five to six day journey that will challenge Muslims to take part in many celebrations,
sacrificial and spiritual practices, intended to bring about greater humility and unity among the
Muslim community. Giving them a chance to wipe clean their sins and start fresh (Batrawy, 2016).
The pilgrimage is in Mecca as the city is a significant place as the prophet Muhammad was born there.
The journey to Mecca to engage in the Hajj must be performed by every Muslim who is able to do so
at least one time during their lifetimes, this only compulsory for

Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness Essay
Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness
Joseph Conrad s novel Heart of Darkness written in 1902 is an overwhelming chronicle of Marlow s
journey into the heart of the
African continent. It is one of the most influential novels of the twentieth century. In this ghastly and
horrific tale, Marlow leads an expedition up the Congo River, only to find everything is not as it
seems. This haunting and mysterious story takes him into the unbearable core of the jungle. The novel
also explores trade and exploration, imperialism and colonization.
The use of darkness means several things in this book. It is used in the title, as Heart of Darkness

Darkness and evil can happen to anyone in anyway, it happened to
Marlow and Kurtz mentally, and then it affects what you physically.
The meaning darkness does not mean the same for everyone, it is different in our minds to what others
think, we all have different opinions of what we think something is. For example, if you look up the
word darkness or dark in a dictionary you may find more than one meaning. First meaning it gave
dark, no light, dull cutoff from the rest of the world, gloomy, sad, sinister, evil secret, night, not
knowing. These are all words that could have been used in the book.
The jungle could be sinister and evil. I find that the word secret represents what goes on in the jungle
very well. It makes you think carefully about what might be in the jungle, the dangers and cautions of
the jungle. It also seems very mystical. It shows that maybe the jungle has something to hide that it
doesn t want you to know about, it wants to keep it to itself.
In the book, as Marlow travels up the Congo River, he himself begins to become sinister and evil, he
isn t his usual self. Ship me somewhere south of Europe, where the best can be the worst, where there
aren t no ten commandments, and a man can raise a thirst . This is a piece of poem, by Rudyard
Kimpling. This I relate to Marlow. He has been taken to Africa in Southern Europe, and where there
aren t any rules or laws. Anything could happen, and the evil comes out of

Analysis Of The Rose That Grew From Concrete
Have you ever had that moment in life where you just want to give up, or cant take the bad stuff
anymore. Well I think we all have, since life really is no Crystal Stair . The poem Mother to Son is
about how life isn t always a crystal stair since the stairs are broken or have tacks and all that bad stuff
that is an obstacle you have to pass. The poem The Rose that Grew From Concrete is about a normal
rose that is growing from concrete where it seems impossible since it cannot provide nutrients but the
rose does it by persevering. Both poems share the theme of perseverance is the key but the authors do
that in similar and different ways. The authors developed the same theme in different ways and we can

The Rose is being strong and persevering to keep living. With life we can relate to this poem because
life throws problems at us like nothing and we have to keep persevering like the rose did when it was
growing in the concrete where there s almost no nutrients for it to eat off and die so maybe it could be
like someone homeless. They are living on the streets and have no food so they have to persevere in
order to live. Making up the theme of perseverance is the key. On the other hand, the author for
Mother to Son uses metaphor and conflict to develop the theme of perseverance is the key. With
metaphor being the stairs of life and conflict being the steps in the stairs that might be broken or with
tacks in it. Metaphor develops the theme of perseverance is the key in Mother to Son because the mom
uses the stairs to compare life and how it is difficult meaning you have to persevere. One piece of
evidence from the text is, Life for me ain t been no crystal stair. This shows the theme of perseverance
is the key because life isn t a crystal stair, it might have boards ripped out or tacks which represent the
problems while your facing while going up the stairs of life. This quote shows that the mother is
telling her son that life is no crystal meaning it s perfect with no problems or anything. Also, she is
saying life for her

Environmental Effects Of A Shopping Mall
Tearing up the park and replacing with a shopping to fulfill the gluttonous greed of our capitalist
nation, will not only harm the ecosystem and cost millions of tax paying dollars, but severely harm the
children physically and mentally.
A shopping mall is a large investment to make, referring to the ecosystem and money. Constructing a
pollutant in our town will aggravate the ecosystem. Cutting down trees will cause an oxygen
deficiency as well as harm any species and ecosystems living there. The process of building a mall
emits air pollution into the atmosphere, which will also occur when the mall is finished. Moving on,
mall have not been making business of late and are shutting down.
Time calculates By 2022, analysts estimate that 1 out of every 4 malls in the U.S. could be out of
business (Time). Manufacturing a mall now is not the best idea economically. In addition, Fixr makes
us aware that malls run at an average of $24.9 million to complete (Fixr). Paying 24.9 million dollars
to build soon to close mall that will hurt the ecosystem is a poor judgment call.
Furthermore, in our current society, children are being limited to the access to the clean outside world.
They choose to remain inside on the computer, rather than having a childhood playing with friends
outside and are suffering physically. With fast food industries taking over, children have no way to
work off the pounds of grease and fat they consume. According to the American Heart Association, ...

Le Sacre Du Printemps ( The Rite Of Spring )
Le Sacre du printemps (The Rite of Spring)
Igor Stravinsky was born June 17, 1882 in Oranienbaum, Russia. While studying law, Nicolai Rimsky
Korsakov, a Russian composer and the most influential member of the composer group known as The
Five. Korsakov allegedly told him he should study music. He continued to study under Korsakov his
death in 1908. Stravinsky never had another teacher but caught the likes of many Russian composers
like Sergei Diaghilev, impresario of the famed Ballets Russes, who allowed him to compose a ballet.
Among his other compositions nothing compared to his next one under Diaghilev. The result was the
voluptuous and impressionistic, The Firebird in 1910, and later in 1911, Petrushka. His next ballet
would ignite the most famous riot in the history of music. With its savage rhythms, absence of melody,
and barbaric energy, The Rite of Spring marks the true beginnings of Twentieth Century music, and
even today never fails to thrill or amaze listeners (Sherrane).
While he was composing The Firebird, Stravinsky had a sudden visual idea, a scene of pagan ritual in
which a chosen sacrificial virgin danced herself to death. Naturally such an image invites the creation
of a ballet to bring the dance to life. However, before put the vision to reality he had another vision
about a sassy yet sad little puppet from Russian street fairs; Petrushka. Eventually, the ancient images
of Russia would come back to him and would enjoy the popularity of people all the way

Cole Amadio US II Mr. Metz 12/2/15 1950s Red Scare In the 1950s there was a red scare that
threatened the United States with communism and Nuclear espionage. The scare was questioned if it
was conspiracy or not, but it was justified because of the spies and Soviet Union threatening the
United states security. Through decryptions, trials and investigations these threats were justified
because of the Venona project, the project was a secret organization that gathered and decrypted
messages from soviet military agency in 1940s, and the HUAC. From the late 1930s to late 1950s the
HUAC took initial steps to find communists and spies in the United States. The House Un Americans

The Influence Of Student Habits And Student Athletes
For any college student, one of the most important things to be learned is good time management and
study skills. This becomes even more imperative when the student in question is an athlete and has the
majority of their day planned out for them. Being a student athlete comes with its own unique set of
challenges, including finding a way to balance the amount of time they allot to the sport they play and
to their studies. It is a common perception that student athletes spend less time and efforts on their
studies than the average college student, but it is not that simple. When considering whether or not
student athletes focus the appropriate amount of time on school work, it is necessary to take a deeper
look at why they focus on what they do, and some of the factors that influence an athlete and the
academic habits they have formed. If student athletes are focusing more on athletics, it would be
helpful to understand what drives them to do so; likewise, knowing why athletes are just as dedicated
to their academics as they are athletics could help pave the way for all student athletes in the future.
Most athletes that are more concerned with their academics have something or someone that influence
their academic habits. Influencing factors can include things such as needing to maintain a certain
GPA for their coach or a scholarship, or potentially that they use the drive they have developed as an
athlete off the court as well.
Out of all factors that influence a student

The Advantages of Paperless Dentistry
With you next visit to the dentist, pretend you are a brand new patient. If you are greeted with a
clipboard and looking at a whole entire wall of charts behind the reception desk, are you going to
think, Many its 2014 charts and clipboards just scream old and out dated. Whether right or wrong. It is
true that patients do form beliefs about the work and quality of your dentistry based on these things.
Now think if you walked in and the reception area was uncluttered, desks with computers and ipads,
plants and beautiful artwork on the walls. Would you say that communicates something about your
practice? Would you say that you already feel more comfortable and trusting because you trust and
believe that your practice provides the best in modern dentistry? If so then you should really consider
going paperless. In a thriving office you will most likely see an all digital office. With an all digital
office you don t only spend less time charting and organizing, you also make your practice a planet
friendly office. In a green dental office we understand that by converting not only charting but
scheduling, billing, and marketing to digital means higher profitability, improved efficiency between
staff and doctor, and of course a smaller environmental footprint. In a non paperless dental office, they
can go through an average of 10000 sheets of paper every year just for patient charts. Not included in
those charts is the paper used to make the file folders themselves.

Analysis Of Where Are You Going Where Have You Been
Over the course of thousands of years there have been many different writers, while being unique and
talented in their own way. Joyce Carol Oates, the author of Where Are You Going, Where Have You
Been , is no exception. However, while writers may be talented and unique in their own way, the
readers will have their own opinions about the stories. It is rare for a reader to read a story without
having a critical outlook on a few of the stories elements. Where Are You Going, Where Have You
Been is a story that lacks consistency and a connection with the reader due to poor execution in
elements such as mood, pace, and closure.

character. The main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oats portrays this story in a peculiar manner, especially with the lack of consistency that the mood is
built upon. The beginning of the story is established with a rather heavy hearted nature of the mother
and Connie s relationship. Connie describes her mother and explains that she makes her want to throw
up sometimes , this is following the rude comments that Connie claims her mother makes, Stop
gawking at yourself? Who are you? You think you re so pretty? (Oats) This beginning mood is then
hastily pushed aside when the story begins to become centered upon Connie and her friends. The
mood becomes light, airy, and fun. They are all enjoying the music that was playing, and they were all
having an enjoyable time. They sat at the counter and crossed their legs at the ankles, their thin
shoulders rigid with excitement, and listening to the music that made everything so good: the music
was always in the background, like music at a church service; it was something to depend upon. (Oats)
These quick and uncalled for mood swaps create a disconnect from the story due to the abrupt nature
of it. This issue could have been fixed had Oats used more concise and fluid transitions. This gives the
reader time to understand and adjust to the different settings and moods.
The pace of Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been is an aspect included in the story that has a
negative impact as well. The story begins at a pace that

2017Dec2 Throughout the history of The United States of America, many presidents have come and
gone, some with many successes and some not so much, but no president was as quirky and hot
headed as the former President Richard Nixon. One Man Against the World: The Tragedy of Richard
Nixon tells the story of a very provoked man, considered by many across the world to be a brilliant
politician, in the process of destroying himself. In this novel, Americans can better understand Nixon
as the man that he was, as well as his policy in Vietnam, the beginnings of the Watergate scandal, and
the effects that his decisions have had on America until this day. All the lies and secrets kept by
President Nixon will forever reign on the inevitable influence that it has had on politicians to come.
Many people ask a simple question when it comes to Richard Nixon, Was he an honorable and ethical
man during his time in the White House? To get the answer to that question, you would have to
consider Nixon s actions and temperament. While he had many scandals, he had a few
accomplishments without having to skew anyone or anything around him to achieve. His most famous
involvements were in the Watergate and Vietnam. President Richard Nixon, along with his National

Why Is Technology Important In The Vietnam War
During the Vietnam War, a proxy war fought primarily between North Vietnam and South Vietnam
with the support of the US, the deployment of new technology is seen by some to have a pivotal
impact on the nature of warfare. The Vietnam War does however highlight how other factors may have
been equally influential as despite America s large preponderance in the sense of technology, weapons
and ultimately economic wealth it was counteracted by the intense motivation to win and leadership
shown by the North Vietnamese Army and the Viet Cong, provoking their victory. As a result, it raises
the question if new technology alone influenced the nature of warfare in this period or if it was a

In the original novel, the creature is given life by Frankenstein, and then he stretches out his arm to see
if Frankenstein will accept him as a son. Whereas in the 1957 film he is in a box full of water, and is
wrapped in bandages. The creature tries to strangle Frankenstein until he is stopped by Paul. In

The director of the 1994 film made the lab realistic, by making the lab dirty and showing all sorts of
scientific instruments. He also makes Frankenstein take his shirt off, get dirty and really get stuck into
the birth of the monster, this suggests that he seems to want to be part of the creation more than in the
1957 version. Also in this film Frankenstein is studying at the university of Ingolstadt and in one scene
we see peasants fleeing the city because of an outbreak of a disease. This is something which is not
used in the 1957 version. In contrast the 1957 film s director chooses to make Frankenstein wear a suit
and work in a very stereotypical lab. Although the 1994 film chooses to use a wider environment, this
film decides to use gothic horror, which the other film doesn t, they do this by using lightening when
the creature is born.
In the 1957 film Frankenstein is portrayed as a posh, snobby and self obsessed this is show by the
house he lives in, his servants and the fact that he is always in his lab working on his creation. Good
friends like Paul fall out with him because of his creation, Frankenstein is so driven he doesn t care
that his best friend has left. In comparison the 1994 film chooses to show Frankenstein as a man that is

Outsourcing and the Global Environment Essay
Outsourcing and the Global Environment
Abstract
The following paper will detail the impact on businesses concerning outsourcing and the global
environment. This paper will outline the needs of the modern business to embrace the concept of
outsourcing and the need to educate employees on the diversity of global business practices.
Outsourcing
The need of the modern business to look outside of the doors of the company to improve profit
margins has become a necessity in today s market. The advent of technology and crossing of borders
have expanded this search for efficiencies to other countries.
There have been great strides made in the global market to outsource various segments of businesses.
One of the biggest gainers in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The last, often unaddressed issue, of outsourcing and displaced American employees is that of the
overpriced employee. The public has become complacent in the fact that no one else will compete for
jobs. Unions have overpriced their employees driving the company to look elsewhere for suitable
replacements. This attitude of inherent job protection from outside sources has actually drove
companies to outsource.
The savings associated from outsourcing by the companies are significant. This savings will reduce as
more companies send jobs overseas. The countries will become savvier at negotiating an equitable
wage for their employees and the cost will go up. At this current time companies are able to capitalize
on the countries being willing to perform work for very little pay to get the business but this will not

Companies must educate not only there employees but the public when it comes to the subject of
outsourcing. There are a variety of subject that the employees of a company should be aware of when
business is being conducted abroad. Customs and culture are one of the biggest items that must be
addressed in conducting business.
What was considered taboo in the United States may be an accepted and often expected practice in

Changing A Little At A Time
Chapter 3: Changing a Little at a Time (Make a Difference)
If you won a million dollars what would you do? This is a common question people often ask. The
common response is going on vacation, buy a nice car, etc. But we often hear the response of giving to
charity and making a difference in the world. I am the same way. If I had a million dollars I would
want to make a difference in the world and give a lot of it to charity. The reality of me winning a
million dollars is extremely slim. However, I can still accomplish my goal, to make a difference, no
matter how much money I have. I have decided that in my own community I can make a difference
with those in poverty, disabilities, and other issues that may arise.
Growing up I had big ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
High School graduation finally rolled around. I had enough money saved up to spend 16 weeks in
Costa Rica giving to their community. My first goal on my bucket list was about to get crossed off.
And then I met a handsome young man that swept me off my feet. I was in a big dilemma. I could
either spend four months in Costa Rica and accomplish my dream of making a difference in a foreign
country, or I could get married to the man of my dreams. It was a very hard decision to make. It
brought me many sleepless nights, and in the end, I knew I needed to marry this boy and use the
money I had saved up for Costa Rica to help with wedding and future plans. It was devastating. But it
was eye opening. From that moment on, I knew I didn t need to go to some foreign land to make a
difference, I could stay right here in my own community and make just as big of a difference. There
are children here who don t have shoes to wear or food to eat. Some don t even have homes. Right in
our own back yard we are seeing poverty.
I have done, and am doing, several things now that I feel like are making a difference. For instance, I
am currently working with Cache County Extensions. A big difference that I see is making a
difference in the Latino community. We teach workshops on finances and nutrition to these
individuals. It is amazing to see the attitude of the people we help, especially in the financial
workshop. You see some of these

  • 2. Typical and Atypical Abuse Essay Typical and Atypical Abuse Physical and emotional abuse can originate from any source but the majority of the abuse generates from parental or adult figures and is direct toward a timid figure, typically a child. The abuser commonly chooses a more timid recipient because they will be less likely to stand up against the abuser. Physical abuse is maltreatment that involves actual contact between one body part of a person and an other body part of an other person, such as hitting or slapping. Emotional abuse consists of just the opposite: maltreatment that is directed to harming the individual psychologically, such as negative comments or put downs (National Exchange Club Foundation, 2000). Regardless of whom the abuse is directed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They will typically have more difficulty learning in the classroom because of responses similar to these (Prothrow Smith, December 1995). A student that is being abused at home is more likely to be withdrawn in the classroom and have a lower self esteem level because they feel that if they answer a question incorrectly they will be negatively punished in some manor (NAEYC, 1997). Students show an inability to cope with the stress levels that are associated with school and are therefore more likely to give up. In fact, maltreated children do not differ on perceived academic ability but their scores on actual tests are significantly lower (Kinard, 2001). One major area that is extremely important to the growth of children is how they interact with other children while at school. Abuse in the home will negatively effect social growth because it influences how comfortable a child feels around other people. The fear of punishment, physical or verbal, determines how a child approaches an other child. Every student in school will most likely be unable to perfect each subject, but a student that is abused is unable to grasp this concept. They feel the need to perfect each subject and when they do not they feel like a failure. Failure is most likely not an option because, to the majority of the abused, failure equals some kind of ... • 3. Comparing the Novel and Movie of Steinbeck s Of Mice and Men Comparing the Novel and Movie of Steinbeck s Of Mice and Men Who doesn t know of John Steinbeck s classic novel Of Mice and Men ? It is a novel that almost everyone educated in the United States has either read it or pretended to read it. But how many have seen the 1992 film Of Mice and Men ? The relative obscurity of 1992 screen version of this timeless drama does not mean that it was poorly done. Just the contrary is true, it is one of the best film adaptations of a novel that I have seen. The novel and the film are very similar. The Steinbeck s novel could be thought of as the screenplay s first draft. There were some small changes, but they were instituted for the good of the film. I liked the film better than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is believable to think the novel was originally a play and then was adapted into book form because there are only four different scenes in the entire novel. Chapter one is set at the Salinas River, chapter two and three are in the bunkhouse, chapter four in Crook s room, chapter five is in the barn, and chapter six is at the river again. Scenes had to be added to the film to keep the audience from getting bored. Dialogue was deleted to help move the story along. The only way we get background information about George and Lennie in the novel is through their dialogue. There was less dialogue in the film because the audience can learn the background information from visual cues from the added scenes. For instance, in the novel, George and Lennie speak of walking ten miles after being forced off the bus by the driver. But in the film, we see the driver kick the pair off of the bus. Similarly, George only speaks of the trouble that Lennie had gotten them into in the town of Weed. But in the movie we are able to see what happens. Curley s wife, played by Sherilyn Fenn, plays a larger role in this film than in the novel. This character steadily develops as layers are peeled back like an onion. The wife in this version is far more predatory and dangerous than in Steinbeck s novel. Initially she acts quite sluttish, but she eventually shows to be naive, lonely, and trapped in an abusive marriage. She acts as a feminist voice that Steinbeck probably ... • 4. Locke And His Theory Of Motivation Here is where I first disagree with Locke and his theory of motivation of the will according to pain and pleasure. I think this is a difficult notion to be comfortable with. To use the formula of pleasure minus pain equals happiness is in direct conflict with Christian teachings and the common good of all people. Locke, being a self proclaimed Christian, is revealing himself throughout this book as actually being non Christian, and I agree with Chappell when she stated that he was an egotist and a hedonist . He discounts the husbands that sacrifice for their wives, the wives that sacrifice for their husbands, parents that sacrifice for their children, siblings that sacrifice for each other, neighbors that sacrifices for neighbors, the priests that sacrifice for the church and all people, people that sacrifice for God, and we can go on and on and on. We are all meant to work toward the good of all and serve one another, but not for Locke. Locke says that every intelligent Bring really seeks Happiness, which consists in the enjoyment of pleasure, without any considerable mixtures of uneasiness . I see two was to read this excerpt. First is to take the capital B in Bring and interpret the intelligent Being as relating to all human being and saying this is to say all humans think that happiness is maximized pleasure and minimized pain. When plants face dry weather, their stomata shrink to reduce water loss. When a similar situation places the plants under stress again, the plant seems to recall this experience and recovers quicker. Robert Deal, who studies genetics and biochemistry, hopes to utilize this trait and pinpoint its gene. If he can locate and activate the genetic material associated with this memory, he believes he can speed up the process and cause plants to have the gene activated at all times, allowing the plants to withstand drier and warmer temperatures. Other researchers have been striving for a similar goal, using the genetic material of plants to create new hybrids that can withstand extreme weather. Across the globe, scientists have been making modified plant varieties that can resist drought, a growing concern as climate change becomes a more prominent issue. One hybrid has already existed since 2011 on the market. The corn plant, known as DroughtGuard, was bred to resist drought. It contains a gene from a bacteria that allows it to produce in times of water shortage. This corn crop has been approved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. The Impact Of Music On Secondary Education Some of the most significant problems facing parents, teachers, and students is the impact of music on secondary education. Parents and teachers alike, are continuously trying to cut the ties between secondary students and the influences of bad music during the school day. More research is being done on this topic to educate students, parents, and teachers. One of the main reasons secondary students are still influenced by music during the school day is because of the lack of research. Studies are continuously being made on this subject. In Lost in Translation: An Enculturation Effect in Music Memory Performance , researchers and students at the University of California, with the help of their professors, took participants who spoke English or Turkish and played music in their native tongue/ language while they read a book to see if the participants remember the music played or the book read (Demorest, Steven M., et al.). After the study, the author states The results suggest that our cognitive schemata for musical information are culturally derived . In conclusion the participants remembered the music in their native tongue/ language rather than the novel they were reading. As studies like these continue, students will become more educated on the impact of music on their secondary education and their ancestors . The plasmodium is an oval shaped cell, measured at about .00006 inches long and .00004 inches wide. Plasmodium has a pellicular cisterna which makes up the golgi apparatus. The apparatus receives materials and sends them to other parts of the cell. The plasma membrane forms the external boundary and the merozoite coat acts like the cell membrane which lets things in and out of the cell. It has an apicoplast that allows the parasite to invade host cells, and microtubules that work with the inner membrane to give bulkiness to the cell. The most common obstruction of the airway is the tongue. This usually occurs when the patient has become unconscious secondary to another cause such as intoxication, low blood sugar, or trauma. While tongue obstruction of the airway can have deadly results, it can be easily solved by re positioning the airway using the either the jaw thrust maneuver if trauma is suspected, or the head tilt chin lift if no trauma is suspected. The aspiration may also cause pneumonia or other types of infections that can be potentially deadly for the patient. This is one of the reasons why managing and controlling n unconscious patient s airway is so crucial during pre hospital care. Another critical respiratory emergency is a pulmonary embolism. Everyone knows that drinking and driving is dangerous, but don t realize it affects the driver, passengers, and people on the streets. The laws should be stricter about underage drinking, there should be more education about the consequences of drinking and driving, and the drinking age should not be lowered. Environmental Effects Of A Shopping Mall Tearing up the park and replacing with a shopping to fulfill the gluttonous greed of our capitalist nation, will not only harm the ecosystem and cost millions of tax paying dollars, but severely harm the children physically and mentally. A shopping mall is a large investment to make, referring to the ecosystem and money. Constructing a pollutant in our town will aggravate the ecosystem. Cutting down trees will cause an oxygen deficiency as well as harm any species and ecosystems living there. The process of building a mall emits air pollution into the atmosphere, which will also occur when the mall is finished. Moving on, mall have not been making business of late and are shutting down. While studying law, Nicolai Rimsky Korsakov, a Russian composer and the most influential member of the composer group known as The Five. Korsakov allegedly told him he should study music. He continued to study under Korsakov his death in 1908. Stravinsky never had another teacher but caught the likes of many Russian composers like Sergei Diaghilev, impresario of the famed Ballets Russes, who allowed him to compose a ballet. Among his other compositions nothing compared to his next one under Diaghilev. The result was the voluptuous and impressionistic, The Firebird in 1910, and later in 1911, Petrushka. His next ballet would ignite the most famous riot in the history of music. With its savage rhythms, absence of melody, and barbaric energy, The Rite of Spring marks the true beginnings of Twentieth Century music, and even today never fails to thrill or amaze listeners (Sherrane). While he was composing The Firebird, Stravinsky had a sudden visual idea, a scene of pagan ritual in which a chosen sacrificial virgin danced herself to death. Naturally such an image invites the creation of a ballet to bring the dance to life. However, before put the vision to reality he had another vision about a sassy yet sad little puppet from Russian street fairs; Petrushka. • 32. The Influence Of Student Habits And Student Athletes For any college student, one of the most important things to be learned is good time management and study skills. This becomes even more imperative when the student in question is an athlete and has the majority of their day planned out for them. Being a student athlete comes with its own unique set of challenges, including finding a way to balance the amount of time they allot to the sport they play and to their studies. It is a common perception that student athletes spend less time and efforts on their studies than the average college student, but it is not that simple. When considering whether or not student athletes focus the appropriate amount of time on school work, it is necessary to take a deeper look at why they focus on what they do, and some of the factors that influence an athlete and the academic habits they have formed. If student athletes are focusing more on athletics, it would be helpful to understand what drives them to do so; likewise, knowing why athletes are just as dedicated to their academics as they are athletics could help pave the way for all student athletes in the future. Most athletes that are more concerned with their academics have something or someone that influence their academic habits. Influencing factors can include things such as needing to maintain a certain GPA for their coach or a scholarship, or potentially that they use the drive they have developed as an athlete off the court as well. Whether right or wrong. It is true that patients do form beliefs about the work and quality of your dentistry based on these things. Now think if you walked in and the reception area was uncluttered, desks with computers and ipads, plants and beautiful artwork on the walls. Would you say that communicates something about your practice? Would you say that you already feel more comfortable and trusting because you trust and believe that your practice provides the best in modern dentistry? If so then you should really consider going paperless. In a thriving office you will most likely see an all digital office. With an all digital office you don t only spend less time charting and organizing, you also make your practice a planet friendly office. In a green dental office we understand that by converting not only charting but scheduling, billing, and marketing to digital means higher profitability, improved efficiency between staff and doctor, and of course a smaller environmental footprint. Joyce Carol Oates, the author of Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been , is no exception. It is rare for a reader to read a story without having a critical outlook on a few of the stories elements. Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been is a story that lacks consistency and a connection with the reader due to poor execution in elements such as mood, pace, and closure. Oats portrays this story in a peculiar manner, especially with the lack of consistency that the mood is built upon. The beginning of the story is established with a rather heavy hearted nature of the mother and Connie s relationship. Connie describes her mother and explains that she makes her want to throw up sometimes , this is following the rude comments that Connie claims her mother makes, Stop gawking at yourself? Who are you? You think you re so pretty? (Oats) This beginning mood is then hastily pushed aside when the story begins to become centered upon Connie and her friends. The mood becomes light, airy, and fun. They are all enjoying the music that was playing, and they were all having an enjoyable time. They sat at the counter and crossed their legs at the ankles, their thin shoulders rigid with excitement, and listening to the music that made everything so good: the music was always in the background, like music at a church service; it was something to depend upon. (Oats) These quick and uncalled for mood swaps create a disconnect from the story due to the abrupt nature of it. This issue could have been fixed had Oats used more concise and fluid transitions. This gives the reader time to understand and adjust to the different settings and moods.
