The Columbine Tragedy
The Columbine Tragedy
The student sat at her desk on Monday morning in English class, discussing the details of the
weekend with her best friend. The bell rang at 8:45 a.m. and her teacher started taking
attendance. It was a new week with so many things to accomplish. The teacher finished the
morning details by completing lunch count. She then asked her pupils to quit visiting, and to
open their literature books and begin reading. All of a sudden a sound rings through the hall, but
it is not an ordinary school bell. It is loud and short. It was followed by several more blasts.
These blasts were followed by echoes of yelling. High pitched shrieks could be heard throughout
the classroom and possibly throughout the entire school. A look of terror was seen on the teacher s
face. She was trembling as she tried to make sense of the blasts the students had just heard. She
instructed the class to find shelter in the cabinets and behind desks within the classroom. As the
student headed to the cabinets, she glanced at the clock. It was 8:51 am. The blasts continued and
could be heard coming closer to the classroom. She then went to the door to find... This scenario
describes details that could occur at any school during a school shooting. Students began a normal
school day, only to find it changed within minutes. This may be similar to what the students at
Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado may have experienced. Although the Columbine

First Grade Music Program Analysis
Today was like any other day, but today we was a first grade music program that night. Before
the program started I was get ready to go and about 1 hour or so me and my brother and some
friends outside to skateboard. We were just skating around the neighborhood and getting ready
to go back to the house when my brother skated down a big hill. When my brother went down,
another one of my friends when down after him down the hill. I was thinking I was able to do it
do but what I didn t know is that doing that would ruin my night. Next, when I got home I did
what I usually do, I would get a snack and sit on the couch and watch tv. I have been doing that

I was about to leave then I thought to myself I can do this, but I was wrong. When I went after
them down the hill, I had too much weight on the back of my skate board. The board slipped out
from under me and I fell backwards and tried to stop myself with my hand but the was a stupid
decision. When I landed my arm snapped, I didn t know what happened but it hurt so I took off
after my house. By the time I got to my house I was balling my eyes out. I tried to tell her what
happened but not a lot of words came out. But when she saw my wrist to told my dad and told
him to get the car ready. She sat me on the couch and got a ice pack for me to put on my wrist.
My dad came rushing in and picked me up and carried me to the car. And he drove me to the
hospital, my had to stay home with my little sister and older brother. We got there pretty quick
because I dozed off in the car. But when we got there my dad carried me into the hospital and I

Lindfor s Dialogic Discourse
Here we see a slight shifting in Steve s view as he responds to Charlotte s concern. These preceding
exchanges revealed dynamic responsiveness among group members in creating each group s
collective judgment, but they only hint at the complexity of the dialogic process. With each
responsive utterance, students synthesized their individual histories, cultural contexts, new
information, logic, and others utterances to make meaning in this assignment.
3. The Judicious Spectator In the final stage of this study, students continued responding to each
other in their dialogic discourse, but in this phase they focused their efforts on writing their jury
report/collaborative essay. Lindfors believes humans work best in collaboration with others
(Lindfors, p. 53). She references Vygotsy s zone of proximal development, which she defines as
the area where a [person] can function with the help of a more competent partner, a place neither
totally beyond the [person s] reach nor completely within her grasp (Lindfors, referencing
Vygotsky, p. 53). Therefore, with Lindfors and Vygotsky in mind, Sally selected jury members
based on writing ability, assigning one excellent writer, one average writer, and one struggling
writer to each three person jury. She designated this assignment as an in class essay because ...

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Incorporation
LeLegal benefits of incorporation
ProteIntroduction
Company or Corporate law originally was derived from the Common Law of England, but has
evolved significantly in the 20th Century. Many countries have forms of business entity unique
to their countries. The doctrine of the veil of incorporation was demonstrated From the age long
decision of House of Lords in the case of Salomon v. Salomon Co Ltd (1897) The effect of the
House of Lords unanimous ruling was to uphold firmly the doctrine of corporate personality, as set
out in the Company Act (1862) so that creditors of an insolvent company could not sue the
company s shareholders to pay up outstanding debts.. The principle behind the veil of incorporation

Salomon Co Ltd (1897). In a corporation, however, stockholders, directors and officers typically
are not liable for the company s debts and obligations. They are limited liabilities in a way that
only the amount which was invested in the corporation will be lost and not their personal assets.
For instance if a shareholder purchased a stock wealth K100 no more than K100 can be lost..
When a corporation which is a limited company holds assets and real estates if a shareholder of
this corporation is personally involved in a lawsuit or bankruptcy, the assets and real estates of
the company will not pay for that lawsuit of that particular individual or shareholder, , the assets
will be protected. There will be no creditor who will seize those assets because they company
assets. However, the creditor can seize ownership shares in the corporation, as they are considered

What Are The Arguments Against Abortion Pro Life
How would you feel if you took away someone s ability to live? All humans have the right to live
in this world. Abortion can cause death to one s pregnancy. Many people think abortion is
harmless and believe it s immoral. Many women decide to have an abortion because they are
scared to raise a child, the future of the child. Some women want to abort because they get raped
and they don t want to have such a large responsibility without the available support. But whatever
reason it is, it is never acceptable to kill an innocent child. Some people would say it s the women
s body so it s their choice if they want to abort. Abortionis a difficult thing to do; a traumatic

A woman who decides to have an abortion may think that the fetus cannot experiences pain so
therefore they won t feel anything and suffer during the abortion. The majority of time that women
get an abortion is because they have some important responsibilities and that they can t handle to
have a kid yet. They have some responsibilities such as education, careers, or no one will financed
and support her with the baby. Others may think that abortion is a solution to a bad action.
In conclusion, abortion is wrong for a lot of reasons. A woman should not have an abortion; they
need to think about the consequences that can occur in one s accident. Abortion should be
forbidden in this world because it can kill an innocent baby and it s not fair that millions of
babies have to die every day. It is true that the mother has to make choices, but she also needs to
be responsible. Everybody deserves and have the right to live in this world. Murder is not a

The Importance Of Baseball In The United States

evident that these numbers aren t new for the league. This revenue amongst other things has made
the United States into what appears to be the zenith of baseball; but Japan s national baseball
league, the Nippon BaseballLeague is alive and well. According to WorldBaseballClassic.com,
Japan s national team is ranked as the third best baseball team in the world, trailing only the
powerhouses of the United States and Cuba. The team made the semi finals in the last World

Food Manufactures have Taken Over
Gone were the days when industrialization was the prime origin and a new age of economic boom
in our country. This was a period where factories were established, provision of jobs being vastly
increased for Americans, big machines and buildings built to accommodate and the exploit the
opportunity and moment at hand. Due to this sudden improvement, foodmanufactures being the
primary industry and instrumental in their clever ways; developed a way to profit by reducing
workers, encouraged unsanitary habits and unscrupulous ways which resulted as a disastrous blow
to the public. This bad habit in the food industry (primarily the meat factories) in late 1800s to
early 1900s aroused one of the most controversial novel (expose) The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, and
yet thrilling insight with details as to what was going on in the meat industry. Upton Sinclair
describes the frightful and dangerous working conditions of one meat packing facility in Chicago,
thus far these conditions were common to all facilities which led to laws that changed the bad
patterns of these manufactures. Workers with peculiar diseases in the meat factory had no
alternative, but to work in the poor condition due to the activities and establishments of production
which showed no well being for the employees and as to what they might be going through. The
rise in the economy recommended the young, old, men and women to seek for jobs in the meat
packing industrywhich had a vast employment rate.

Vapor Pressure
The properties of freezing point, boiling point, vapor pressure, and osmotic pressure are
properties that can be manipulated based on the ratio of a solute in a solution compared to the
pure solvent. A pure solvent is generally a liquid compound that has the ability to dissolve other
materials chemically. Decreased freezing point is the temperature at which the solution or solvent
becomes solid, leaving the solute behind. The boiling point is how much it takes for the pressure
of the water to become more than the atmospheric pressure or when the vapor pressure of the
liquid becomes greater than the atmospheric pressure. Vapor pressure can be described in terms of
the pressure rates of molecules going in or out of a state of liquid or gas... Show more content on

A colligative property is the property of a solution that differs from the solute when an ionic
compound is added to the solute and it depends on the ratio of dissolved particles to the solvent
in a solution. Colligative properties are properties of a solvent and change with the presence of
a solute, but these are properties that are independent of what the solvent and solute are.
Freezing point is the temperature at which the solution or solvent becomes solid. An example of
freezing point property in action is when salt is added to water and is spread on ice, causing the
water and the ice to have a lower freezing point. As seen when brine is applied to roadways, the
solvent water, when combined with the solute salt, the freezing point is lowered. The boiling
point property is demonstrated when the pressure of the water becomes more than the
atmospheric pressure, or when the vapor pressure of a liquid becomes greater than the
atmospheric pressure in a closed environment. An example of ionic compounds in boiling would
be to add salt to water when boiling water for cooking pasta. When the salt is added, the boiling
point becomes higher, which in turn creates the potential to cook the pasta at a higher temperature
to save time. Vapor pressure is the amount of pressure that is applied by the vapor in the air or in a
contained environment on the substance from which it came. An example of vapor

Nancy Mairs s Passage In The Passage Of Nancy Mair
In the passage, Nancy Mairs presents herself as an empowered, intelligent, and strong cripple. The
first line is I am a cripple which is pretty straightforward, and the matter of fact tone that it is stated
in stays pretty consistent throughout the entire passage. Mairs upfront attitude from the start
convinces the reader that she is unafraid to identify herself however she wants. Later she states that
she refuses to pretend that the only differences between you and me are the various ordinary ones
that distinguish any one person from another . She is realistic to a point that she occasionally seems
cynical, but deeper analysis of the text reveals that that is untrue. Throughout the entire passage,
Mairs establishes that she is extremely intelligent. She uses a colorful vocabulary (semantic,
euphemism, calamitous) and complex sentences. Mairs also makes reference to famous authors
and their work. Mairs says my God is not a
Handicapper General, which alludes to Harrison Bergeron, a short story by Kurt Vonnegut, as well
as a 10th century gospel piece in line 18. She establishes her intelligence in order to prove to the
reader that she is simply crippled and not disabled, which suggests any incapacity physical or
mental . It is clear that Mairs has no mental incapacity, and she makes this very clear
purposefully. Nancy chooses to use the word crippled because other words aren t as straightforward
and precise, and as a lover of words she likes the conciseness of the word

Speech On Water Conservation
November 14, 2017 Dear reader, Can you imagine getting sick every single time you drink water
from your sink? That is something I have had to experience for about 14 years of my life. My
country has been suffering from really bad water conservation since forever. Rivers turn grey,
fish are lacking... That is a reality the D.R.C. has to face daily. Living there made me realize how
important water conservation truly is and I would like to tell you about it. According to the
document Water Is Life , aquatic organisms (including insects) are indicators of water quality. I
recently went to a creek in Kentucky to observe its water quality. One of the things I noticed in
that creek were a few mayflies, which are one of the water quality s indicators I mentioned
above. My class and I went into that creek accompanied by 2 professionals who taught us that a
healthy stream should have a lot of mayflies in it. The creek I visited didn t have enough of them
to be labeled as healthy . Also, trash is a big problem in water conservation. I did not see any
trash in the stream which is really good and I guess it is mainly due to the stream regularly being
treated. People in this area are pretty aware of how big of an impact littering has. Just think about
it. This water is constantly going to be use and reused. A lot of countries in Africa are still
completely unaware of how much impact littering has on water. What a lot of them do not know is
that just because your river s water is not

Pratiksha Tathed MS: Petroleum Engineering Statement of Purpose It is when I struggle that I

Dystopian Places In The Giver
The Giver
Simply, a dystopia is defined as a bad place, a place where no one would want to live, a place in
which one s rights and freedoms would be gone, a place where the environment would be
devastated. Dystopia is created from the Greek prefix dis meaning bad, harsh, or wrong and the
Greek root topos meaning place.
The Giver proves all of these characteristics true. Jonas and his community receive no freedom or
pain. Without pain, the world can not evolve because you can not learn from your mistakes. The
community is dehumanized, but because no one has felt happiness they shall not any what it
should feel like. In The Giver by Lois Lowry the setting is a dystopian based community because
citizens live in a dehumanized state, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jonas is sitting with his family at the dinner table when his sister says something very important.
The text states, I feel sorry for anyone who is in a place where he feels strange and stupid.
(Lowry 6). This quote is very important because it shows that even though she doesn t know it
she is starting to realize people aren t treated right. Jonas and his family have been brainwashed
to think that this is how life should be but they just can t figure it out. Shortly after Jonas had a
discussion with his parents whether they love him, his mom tells him why it is inappropriate to
use the word Love . Jonas thinks for a while then he says, Things could change, Gabe, Jonas went
on. Things could be different. I don t know how, but there must be some way for things to be
different. There could be colors. And grandparents, he added, staring through the dimness
toward the ceiling of his sleeping room. And everybody would have the memories. (Lowry 128).
This quotes stood out a lot. Jonas finally realizes how bad people are treated and he wants to
change it for Gabriel. Foreshadowing the end of the book this is the breaking point where Jonas
wants to change life for Gabriel. Jonas realizes his community is far from perfect. His whole life
he believed this was the only way to live, but when he figured out that there were other ways, he
realized how dehumanized his community

Daddy By Sylvia Plath
A parent s words or actions leave behind an astounding effect on a a childs. Whether positive or
negative, those are moments that shape and alter the child s life. In Sylvia Plath s poem Daddy, the
story tells how the narrator copes and continues her life after her father dies. Even after his harsh
treatment and rude demeanor while he was alive, his stills is an entity that she herself lives her life
by. Plath conveys the narrator s of confinement with the use of metaphors, repetition, and allusion
throughout the poem.
The usage of metaphors throughout the poem shows the reader how much Plath feels trapped by
her own father. For example, in the beginning stanza, Sylvia describes her father as a big black
shoe and her, a white small foot inside ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the ninth stanza, the speaker references how she is scared of her father and uses examples that
subtly discriminates him as a Nazi. Throughout that stanza, she makes references to the German
military by connecting her father to the Luftwaffe (German Air Force), Panzer Man ( German
Tank Men), and Even Hitler himself by referencing to his neat mustache . These instances from
this stanza all connect the narrator s father to his German roots and effectively portray him as a
Nazi. It shows the audience how the narrator views her father, and ultimately makes the distinction
between her fathers personalities and that of a nazi s. Another example from daddy also makes
references to the narrator considering herself to be a Jew. In stanza seven, the narrator explicitly
calls herself a Jew after making reference to the fact that every German she encountered she thought
was her father. During World War II, the Germans overpowered the Jews
, almost the same way that
the narrator feels overpowered by her father s very essence. When the speaker makes the
comparison of Nazis and Jews, she immediately makes the reader concur the overall feeling of
helplessness she felt against her

Definition Essay On Unconditional Love
The definition of love is an intense feeling of deep affection. The love between two people should
always be conditional. You can fall out of love because you are able to fall in love.
Conditional love can be earned by gaining loyalty and trust in another person. When you express
conditional love you love the person because of how they treat you and love you. Unconditional
love is being able to love someone no matter what. When you express unconditional love for
someone you care about the happiness of another person without knowing what the other person s
intentions are.
I prefer to offer and receive conditional love because I would not want to give false love or get false
love. For example, if my boyfriend told me I look good in everything and I decided to wear a
purple striped shirt with orange pants, Will I look good then? Another example is, If my boyfriend
cheated on me with one of my friends, do I accept the fact and still love him? Love requires trust
and commitment from both people in a relationship.
Conditional love depends on what you do rather than who you are. For example, a boy tells a
girl she is beautiful because she does not wear makeup or if your best friend is only supportive
until you make a mistake. Those are examples of conditional love because the boy thinks she is
beautiful only because she is not wearing makeup, and your best friend is only there for you until
something bad goes wrong. Being able to recognize conditional love will allow you to

expressed by nonlinguistic means . (Adler et al 431) so that you may understand that verbal
communication is just a small part of the communication process and that through nonverbal
communication you can communicate without even using words or by the way you say the words.
Let me warn you that you need to be very careful when trying to interpret nonverbal communication

communication can have more than one meaning as you will see later in this writing assignment. I

This is also referred to as proxemics. Leaning in, stepping back or walking away are examples of

While watching The Big Bang Theory, one of the channels of nonverbal communication I
noticed was facial displays. When Leonard and Penny were discussing the upcoming Comic Con
convention they were planning on attending, Leonard was showing Penny places they were
going to stay and sleep. He was smiling and you could definitely tell it was a fake smile. Penny
was also wearing a fake smile the whole time. I interpreted this as Leonard really trying to get
Penny not to go to the convention with him by showing her she would have a terrible time. I
believe Penny was using the fake smile to show Leonard that she was excited about the trip,
although she really didn t want to go. The fake smiles they were both wearing are an example of
the sub content of the facial display channel.
The second channel of nonverbal communication I noticed was gestures. This was when Leonard
was skyping his mother Beverly and she was suggesting that Leonard and Penny where having
marital problems because they were inviting Raj to come live with them. Leonard puts his hand on
his forehead and slumped over his desk. The act of placing his hand on his forehead and slumping

converse with the kindergarten instructor. This prompted the kindergarten educator to tell the
understudies stories of courageous activity to help other people under troublesome and evolving
conditions (Kotter and Rathgeber, 2006, p.94). This without a doubt drove the adolescent to
consider ways they could effectuate change, which Alice later found when she experienced
kindergarten understudy Sally Ann. Alice strengthened the seeds of progress that had been planted

courageous stories sustained the planted seed, and Sally Ann s cooperation with Alice showed the

Macbeth and Picture of Dorian Gray Essay
The Picture of Dorian Gray Victorian Era
Gray swaps his soul for the painting through an indirect Faustian Bargain.
Quote: Yes, there is nothing in the whole world I would not give! I would give my soul for that!
Social Values/Context:
Aestheticism was exposed to Dorian Gray by Lord Henry who was an aesthetic himself, which
ultimately leads to the Faustian Bargain.
Quote: Oh, she is better than good she is beautiful, murmured Lord Henry, sipping a glass of
vermouth and orange bitters. Dorian says she is beautiful, and he is not often wrong about things of
that kind. Your portrait of him has quickened his appreciation of the personal appearance of other
people. It has had that excellent effect, amongst others.

This reflects the convention of appearance versus reality, and through this the appearance of Gray
and the reality he lives in is represented through his insatiable desire for eternal beauty. Wilde
intends to use the conventional theme of appearance versus reality in a Faustian Bargain to convey
the idea of a fatal correspondence between the painting and Dorian s life. Where the painting s
appearance differs exponentially from Gray s reality of corrupt and murderous behaviour.
Shakespeare also displays the fatal correspondence that exists between the witches prophecy in his
play Macbeth, which reflects on the Faustian Bargain theme. Elizabethan period sparked a
profound interest in witchcraft, and through this Shakespeare had used the three witches as the
catalyst for Macbeth s Faustian Bargain. A parallel can be drawn with Macbeth s reality and the
appearance of his fate through the prophecy of the witches, who act as external manipulators of
Macbeth s thoughts. Through biblical allusion the fact that the witches are prophets of Macbeth s
destiny is ironic, as they are not acting in the place of God, but in the place of Satan.

The Theme Of Friendship In The Film Guardians Of The Galaxy
Friendship is like a blossoming sprout in spring. At first it is dainty and fragile but as it cultivates
into an elegant flower, it grows more and more robust. Sometimes the biting winds of hate and
deceit can knock the blooming flower down but that is not the case in Guardians of the Galaxy
(2014). This intricate storyline follows Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and the estranged band of aliens
later known as the Guardians of the Galaxy. When one watches this motion picture, it can be
substantiated that friendship can be unearthed in the most unlikely niches, with the most unlikely
inhabitants, and in the most unlikely manners. As the film commences, the audience is met with a
view of the severe panorama; later known as Morag. This dust filled lands are juxtaposed to the

at risk in order to save his friends and Xandar. Luckily, the remaining members of the guardians
came to Peter s rescue and help channel the Infinity stone phenomenal power; thus defeating Ronan.
As the story falls to a close, the guardians reach their goal shield the galaxy from Ronan s corrupt

American Indian Movement Essay
American Indian Movement: Activism and Repression Native Americans have felt distress from
societal and governmental interactions for hundreds of years. American Indian protests against
these pressures date back to the colonial period. Broken treaties, removal policies, acculturation, and
assimilation have scarred the indigenous societies of the United States. These policies and the
continued oppression of the native communities produced an atmosphere of heightened tension.
Governmental pressure for assimilation and their apparent aim to destroy cultures, communities,
and identities through policies gave the native people a reason to fight. The unanticipated
consequence was the subsequent creation of a pan American Indian identity... Show more content

Shortly, after fulfilling local obligations the AIM began to address the state and national arenas.
Indian youth from colleges, reservations and urban centers began to speak out against treatments
they were receiving, while advocating self government and autonomy. The AIM focus took a shift
from socioeconomic discrimination against Indians towards the government s policies and
programs. This identity based movement began to receive extreme support from returning Native
American Vietnam veterans. Why was I fighting to uphold a U.S. treaty commitment halfway
around the world when the United States was violating its treaty commitments to my own people
and about 300 other Indian Nations? asked one Creek Cherokee veteran. I was fighting the wrong
people, pure and simple (Calloway 437). The ethically comprised members of the AIM started to
raise their concerns through radical events to attract public and governmental action on their behalf.
The occupation of Alcatraz Island played a large role in establishing new methods in the Native

Lab Report: Environmental Control of Sex Determination
Introduction
Ceratopteris richardii, known as a C fern has a lifecycle referred to as alteration of generations,
which consist of neither haploid nor diploid dominant. C ferns are homospours plants which are
important in that they can produce hermaphrioditic gametophytes in order to be able to self
fertilize. However, some of the homospourous C ferns only produce male gametophytes .The life
cycle of Ceratopteris richardii starts as a diploid sporophyte which then, by meiosis, produces
haploid spores. These spores then undergo mitosis to produce a haploid gametophyte, which can be
either hermaphrodite( producing eggs and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Results The graph of our results showed the percentage of male gametophytes increasing and then
leveling off (Figure 1). This was our trend because most of the points followed this pattern,
however; there was a potential outlier at point (68, 32.3). The distribution of gametophytes on the
culture plates varied. Plates A and F had even distribution but were very crowed with gametophytes,
while plates D and C were evenly distributed but had less gametophytes. Plate E had clumping of
gametophytes in the top left corner and plate B had clumping the the bottom right corner.
Figure 1. The relationship between the population density and the percentage of male gametophytes.
Discussion
The prediction that the percentage of male gametophytes would increase as the population density
of the gametophytes increased, and the prediction that the percentage of male gametophytes would
decrease as the population density of the gametophytes increased were not supported by our results.
When the population density was low, the percentage of male gametophytes was relatively low
because there would not be enough eggs to fertilize the sperm produced from both the
hermaphrodite, and the sperm produced by the male gametophyte. When the population density was
high, the percentage of male gametophytes was higher but still less than fifty percent because of the
same reasons. The data from our results did support our

The Market of Rental Units
Rental Units are the large part of USA housing market. Nearly one third of American households
rent, and over 14 percent of households live in a rental apartments. The following chart list that
35% of population rents, which does not seem much in comparison to 65% of house owners but
they also contribute a lot to this society. Multifamily housing has high potential for energy savings
through retrofits, but the lack of data on best practices and historical cost savings has weakened
investment. Data related to energy efficiency, utilities and construction is really difficult to obtain
for a building, as many multifamily owners and operators never benchmark the energy performance
of their building. This critical shortage of information about building energy performance has
prevented property markets from valuing energy efficiency and severely undermined both public
and private efforts to increase the energy efficiency of multifamily housing. This has really affected
the development of energy efficient and green policies in multi family building. Green building is
about improving our design and construction practices so that the multifamily homes we build
today will last longer, cost less to operate, and won t harm the health of workers and residents. It is
also about protecting natural resources and improving the built environment so that ecosystems,

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A policy is a written statement about how you will work in one area of your practice
A procedure are the actions you will take to carry out the procedure.
They should be clear and simple. Your policy should start with a short, clear statement, eg:
POLICY : It is my policy to keep children safe when they are in my care
PROCEDURE: List the things that you will do to ensure that this statement is met. Say HOW you
will do them and WHEN.
You need to think about your practice and premises and make it individual to you and your home.

be looked after. You would be consulted about this by phone. There is a parent ring round
provision in the event of an emergency to inform all parents of children under my care.
If parents do not arrive or I am unable to contact them, I will stay with the child until the
appropriate treatment has been given and then return home where your child would be cared for
until the arrival of the parents
BEHAVIOUR POLICY
It is my belief that children misbehave because they have not yet learnt how to react to feelings and
needs in acceptable ways.
The most common needs and feelings that can trigger unacceptable behaviour are
Attention, Boredom, Curiosity, Imitation, Self preservation, Independence, Anger, Frustration,
Anxiety, Fear, Excitement, Anticipation
I believe in the Maria Montessori philosophy that confirms:
Behaviour is learnt
Behaviour can change
Rewards work better than punishments
Practice makes perfect
Consistency is the key
Never assume that a child misbehaves intentionally.
Our children are very young and may not have learnt what appropriate behaviour is yet. Children
need to know what we want them to do and it is important that we tell them what we want them to
do rather than what we don t want them to do. Behaviour will be repeated if the underlying children
s needs remain unmet.

Brand Building Blocks
BRAND BUILDING BLOCKS
Building Strong Brands: Why Is It Hard?
It is not easy to build brands in today s environment. The brand builder who attempts to develop a
strong brand is like a golfer playing on a course with heavy roughs, deep sand traps, sharp doglegs,
and vast water barriers. It is difficult to score well in such conditions. Substantial pressures and
barriers, both internal and external, can inhibit the brand builder. To be able to develop effective
brand strategies, it is useful to understand these pressures and barriers
Different factors that make it difficult to build brands are shown in the figure above. The first,
pressure to compete on price, directly affects the motivation to build brands. The second reason, the

2. Proliferation Of Competitors
New, vigorous competitors come from a variety of sources. A host of food categories have
watched Weight Watchers and Healthy Choice enter their markets through brand extension
strategies. In the snack category, Frito Lay has seen regional brands expand and Budweiser s
Eagle brand break out of its niche to become a major competitor. New product forms that provide
real alternatives for the customer have encroached the soft drink market, bottled water, carbonated
water, fruit based drinks, and new age drinks, among others.
Additional competitors not only contribute to price pressure and brand complexity, but also make
it much harder to gain and hold a position. They leave fewer holes in the market to exploit and
fewer implementation vehicles to own. Each brand tends to be positioned more narrowly, the target
markets become smaller, and the non target market becomes larger. Efforts to market to a broad
segment thus become more difficult in the face of the complex brandscape Further, some new or
desperate competitors may be motivated to take risks or attempt unusual approaches. The result can
be destabilization of the competitive dynamics. There is also an enhanced motivation to copy
anything that is successful, in part because the risks of

Essay on “Higher Education Without Higher Interest Rates”
The current state of the economy has spurred a debate as to what type of education is worth the
time and study that students invest. Some contend that students should attain degrees in more
quantitative subjects, such as math and science. Others state that vocational degrees are best in
this economy. Personal views aside, a central tenet is clear a college education, often
complemented by postgraduate education, is the reliable path to success for most Americans. That
being said, there are still several real life obstacles that impede access to such an education. There
are several, specific public policy initiatives that can help alleviate these hindrances. In order for

In other words, higher education is valuable but expensive. Most would agree that higher
education encourages ingenuity and critical thinking attributes which are valuable in any
profession. Though people like to cite Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg as not finishing college but
finding once in a lifetime success, the rule remains that those individuals are the exception, not the
rule. Having a college degree makes attaining a higher paying job possible. Clearly higher
education pays off, but there are some people who do not have enough money to pay for college.
Only thirty percent of Americans have earned a college degree. This number does not seem
staggering, but when compared with college tuition debt to credit card debt, the results are stark. In
general, Americans have more college tuition debt than credit card debt (State of the Union).
When considering an average college graduate and his or her consumer/credit debt, it is easy to
see why the student loan burden is one that students find increasingly difficult to confront. This is
worsened by the current state of the economy, where educated men and women have difficulties
finding jobs because of the market. As a result, they are straddled with student loan debt. This debt,
coupled with consumer debt and dim job prospects, are a burden which can easily become
overwhelming for the average 22 year old (Federal Student Aid).

The Themes Of Women In Carrie By Stephen King
Boys will be boys, and girls will be brutal. At least, that s the impression one gets from reading
Stephen King s novel, Carrie. Endless bullying from all students on Carrie White is common at
Ewen High, where the novel takes place, however, the bullying is taken more seriously by the
girls. Carrie lives an unfortunate life, alone with her strictly religious mother. These factors lead to
the wrath of CarrieWhite, the downfall of herself, and well, just about everyone else. King uses
the theme of women and femininity to demonstrate that females often conform to hateful
stereotypes, are completely different from men, and to show how religion can play a role in this.
The first lesson King gives the reader is how stupid and brutal women can be when sticking
together in large groups. In the opening scene, all of the girls in gym class were taking showers
when Carrie Whitenoticed she was bleeding down her legs. While the other girls understood what
was happening, Carriedid not; she thought she was dying. Thinking that Carrie had had her
period before, all of the girls, including the good ones, begin to chant plug it up and throw
feminine products at Carrie. It is no wonder that King often uses metaphors about farm animals to
describe girls in the novel, as they stick together in herds. As recalled by the gym teacher, I m
living in a glass house, see. I understand how those girls felt. The whole thing just made me want
to take [Carrie] and shake her. Maybe there s some

Outsourcing the Processing of Sensitive Information
A current trend in business in the first world (United States and Western Europe) is for the service

the lowest cost means of production. That is, to lower costs and maximize profits, first world

In fact, the European Union s Data Protection Directive, prohibits sending personal information to

The Internet is the technology that largely makes outsourcing business processes possible. It also

Accuracy or Inaccuracy of Sensory Perception
Provide at least three (3) reasons for believing in the accuracy or inaccuracy of sensory information.
Sensory perception is the foundation of scientific knowledge and philosophical reality. This is one
of the reasons for believing the accuracy of sensory information. Science depends on the
standardization of sensory input and instruments. Human sensory organs are generally the same
across the species, with few exceptions. One of the reasons why sensory information is accurate
is that all human beings can basically agree on data such as the sky being blue, satin being soft,
and sugar being sweet. The fact that sensory information provides a common ground for people
being human is one of the reasons for believing in the accuracy of sensory information. Another
reason for believing the accuracy of sensory data is that it can in many cases be measurable and
predictable. This is why sensory information provides the foundation for empirical measurements
and scientific data.
However, there are also reasons for believing the inaccuracy of sensory information. Reasons
include the variability of the human experience, including situational variables like sleep
deprivation, hunger, or emotional state of being. Sensory information will be distorted when a
person is too tired, angry, or hungry. Another reason to doubt the accuracy of sensory information is
that not all hypotheses or issues lend themselves to be measured using sensory data. Cultural
differences, gender norms, and other

Ancient Roman Architecture And Humanism
The time of the Renaissance was a period when old ideas and techniques were brought back to the
surface. Ancient Rome helped frame architecture in the Early Renaissance, in comparison will be
discussing three buildings in Italy that were influenced by classical heritage.
I will discuss is a town house identified as the Palazzo Rucellai, built by Leon Battista Alberti in
Florence, Italy. Alberti was known to be a humanist, which was a belief that Greeks and Romans
practiced. (Dr. Beth Harris and David Zucker Alberti, Palazzo Rucellai ). It was believed that
humans and their lives were more, or just as important as the Gods. Humanists also believed that
God(s) made humans with a specific talent. According to the dictionary Humanism sparked interest
in a system in which human interests, values, and dignity were becoming a central motif for
artisans. This building was an important commission that Alberti had completed for a wealthy
merchant family known as the Rucellais, and was built after the wealthy Medici family built their
palazzo. According to Dr. Beth Harris and Dr. Steven Zucker, Alberti wrote multiple books. One of
those books was titled The Architecture of Leon Battista Alberti Ten Books on Architecture, and
was considered the most important book of architecture after the famous Ten Books on Architecture
written by the ancient Roman Vitruvius. Using Vitruvius vocabulary of ancient Roman

The Restoration Under Charles II Essay
The Restoration Under Charles II Generally, the English people had a great celebration when
Charles II returned to the throne in May of 1660.1 Many believed that restoring the monarchy was
the only way to secure constitutional rights. In fact, there was an expectation that bringing back
the king would return life to the way it was before 1642 and the rule of Cromwell. Charles II was
responsible for improving the government for the people. However, despite some achievements, the
king was not very successful in creating a stronger and more effective monarchy. He was dependent
on his advisors and other parts of the government from the very beginning of his reign. There were

This council consisted of English men who held public office or owned extensive amounts of
land. Smaller committees within the council made all the major decisions.3 The king looked to
the Privy Council for help in solving the country s problems. Clarendon s main objective for the
council was to lessen the power of Parliament. Since the king relied a large deal on the council
for making decisions, Parliament did not meet as often.4 Clarendon also knew that the militia
was a major part of government, but he wanted to keep the army small. He knew that a large
army would make the people nervous about an absolutist monarchy. A small militia kept the
country safe from a possible foreign attack.5 There was one main issue that Clarendon and
Charles disagreed on very strongly: religious tolerance. Clarendon believed in using coercive
acts to eliminate dissenters. However, Charles did not want to persecute people with different
religious beliefs if they were not causing problems for England. In April of 1660, he put these
ideas into effect with the Breda Declaration. This declaration was the first of many signs that
Charles was impartial to Catholics. Parliament, however, sided with Clarendon on this conflict. In
1661, Parliament passed the Act of Uniformity. The act ended all tolerance for Presbyterianism
and forced all of its followers to agree to everything in the Anglicans Book of Common Prayer.

Research and Advancement of Biofuel Technology
Biofuels have been in major discussion amongst the government, and the science community due
to the topic of global warming being caused by our greenhouse gasses produced by our excessive
use of carbon producing technologies. Although we like to think that Biofuel is a relatively new
fuel technology that has been developed as of late, it is not. Biofuelenergy and its usage can be
traced back as far as our ancient ancestors. Wood, the first form of biofuel, was as many know
used by our ancient ancestors to produce fire. Our ancestors used this form of fuel for obvious
reasons such as to keep warm, and for cooking. Other biofuels, commonly referred to as first
generation biofuels, are produced directly from food crops. The biofuel is ultimately derived from
the starch, sugar, animal fats, and vegetable oil that these crops provide. Corn, wheat, and sugar
cane are the most commonly used first generation biofuel. Corn is probably the most recognized
first generation biofuel, due to the fact that it is used in the production of ethanol. Corn, like many
biofuels has its advantages and disadvantages to the environment. Some advantages are that
Infrastructure for planting, harvesting, and processing is already in place, majority of the plant is
used for energy production (little waste). Some major disadvantages of corn are that its use in
ethanol production has increased food cost world wide leading to hunger, and many fertilizers and
pesticides are used in corn production

The Theology Of Thomas Aquinas
Thomas Aquinas was a one of the few philosophers to interpret the theology as a whole
distinguishing the difference between theology and philosophy by explaining Law in general in a
detailed account and focusing on kinds of law which he classified as Eternal, Human, Divine and
Natural law. Aquinas suggests in order for law to be understood some reasoning has to be
provided which is why as a philosopher what he explained could not provoke Christian beliefs, but
establish a relationship between theory and religion.
As a philosopher he understands and describes law as being influenced by certain actions that man
chooses to act upon or refrain from, which is entirely up to us or as he may put it, an ordered rule .
Because of this assumption ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For these laws to be effective and understood he explains the essence of law breaking it down into
three important aspects; Reason a superior order, Common Good some sort of satisfaction through
law (not suggesting he doesn t care) and One who has care in the sense that in the community trust
is put into the hands of someone of higher authority who has common good as their main objective.
Eternal Law is considered a law by Aquinas in the sense that since God being the creator of the
universe, every command will be passed as God understands it and will stand in its eternal form
becoming eternal law. Thomas has portrayed art of eternal law being community ruled through
divine reasoning provided by God meaning his reasoning must have a proper and perfect order
making it eternal.
Since Thomas has used an organizational structure as I explained previously, Divine Lawbeing
based on revelation and extracted from Eternal Law, we learn how the bible has worked in
correspondence with Divine law mainly because of how it is split into Old and New Law similar
to the Old Testament and New Testament in the bible. To my understanding Aquinas bases his facts
about the Old law on the Ten Commandments with an assumption that humans are driven by the
fear and the rewards expected to be benefited from obeying the Law whereas the New

Why Was Dor Punished For Creating The Concept Of Time
The Time Keeper by Mitch Albom
6000 years ago, Dor was the created the concept of time. Since he was constantly preoccupied
with observing, counting, and measuring everything, he made the first 2 clocks using shadows
and water bowls through his curiousity and discovery. One day, Dor s dearest wife, Alli died an
untimely death due to a disease and Dor was upset how life could be so unfair. He wished to

Against the Gods the Remarkable Story of Risk by Peter L....
AGAINST THE GODS The Remarkable Story of Risk By Peter L. Bernstein I have to admit I
was pleasantly surprised by Against the Gods. I expected this book to be a typical dry book on a
given financial subject, detailing use, application, and theory. I completely took for granted the fact
that math, particularly risk, has history. The author did a fantastic job of painting a picture and
explaining how, why and when concepts we use today came into being. While reading this book I
became excited about risk and statistical analysis. The author is Peter L. Bernstein graduate of
Harvard, economist, educator, and historian. He lived from January 1919 to June 2009. Bernstein is
best remembered for his contributions in investment... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was a very profound and eye opening moment for me to see how the author tied communism to
the deliberate exclusion of risk. Any manipulation or attempt to hide risk changes the outcome
and outlook of a situation. This was evidenced in the Soviet Union when their government tried
to exercise control by pushing the concept of risk out of consideration. The end result was a
complete stifling of social and economic progress. I personally compare this scenario to what
Bernstein said earlier in the book about Greek society. Although the Greeks were great
philosophers and were on the cusp of discovering risk, no great inventions or discoveries in math
or science happened in their time. Another thing I liked about the book was in certain areas the
discussion tied back to what I am currently working with on our StockTrak assignment
specifically, the topes of options and dividends. Bernstein told the story of how in 1973 Fischer
Black and Myron Scholes created an options pricing model and tried to have their work published.
Although their work wasn t accepted because neither Black nor Scholes had advanced degrees,
their work went on to become very instrumental in options pricing and liabilities. With relation to
dividends Bernstein explained how both investors and corporations would make more money if
instead of paying dividends corporations used that money to repurchase outstanding shares of stock.
In several areas of the book Bernstein

The bell rang at 8:45 a.m. and her teacher started taking attendance. It was a new week with so many things to accomplish. The teacher finished the morning details by completing lunch count. She then asked her pupils to quit visiting, and to open their literature books and begin reading. All of a sudden a sound rings through the hall, but it is not an ordinary school bell. It is loud and short. It was followed by several more blasts. These blasts were followed by echoes of yelling. High pitched shrieks could be heard throughout the classroom and possibly throughout the entire school. A look of terror was seen on the teacher s face. She was trembling as she tried to make sense of the blasts the students had just heard. She instructed the class to find shelter in the cabinets and behind desks within the classroom. As the student headed to the cabinets, she glanced at the clock. It was 8:51 am. The blasts continued and could be heard coming closer to the classroom. She then went to the door to find... • 5. Lindfor s Dialogic Discourse Here we see a slight shifting in Steve s view as he responds to Charlotte s concern. These preceding exchanges revealed dynamic responsiveness among group members in creating each group s collective judgment, but they only hint at the complexity of the dialogic process. With each responsive utterance, students synthesized their individual histories, cultural contexts, new information, logic, and others utterances to make meaning in this assignment. 3. Many countries have forms of business entity unique to their countries. The doctrine of the veil of incorporation was demonstrated From the age long decision of House of Lords in the case of Salomon v. Salomon Co Ltd (1897) The effect of the House of Lords unanimous ruling was to uphold firmly the doctrine of corporate personality, as set out in the Company Act (1862) so that creditors of an insolvent company could not sue the company s shareholders to pay up outstanding debts.. In a corporation, however, stockholders, directors and officers typically are not liable for the company s debts and obligations. For instance if a shareholder purchased a stock wealth K100 no more than K100 can be lost.. When a corporation which is a limited company holds assets and real estates if a shareholder of this corporation is personally involved in a lawsuit or bankruptcy, the assets and real estates of the company will not pay for that lawsuit of that particular individual or shareholder, , the assets will be protected. This was a period where factories were established, provision of jobs being vastly increased for Americans, big machines and buildings built to accommodate and the exploit the opportunity and moment at hand. Due to this sudden improvement, foodmanufactures being the primary industry and instrumental in their clever ways; developed a way to profit by reducing workers, encouraged unsanitary habits and unscrupulous ways which resulted as a disastrous blow to the public. This bad habit in the food industry (primarily the meat factories) in late 1800s to early 1900s aroused one of the most controversial novel (expose) The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, and yet thrilling insight with details as to what was going on in the meat industry. Upton Sinclair describes the frightful and dangerous working conditions of one meat packing facility in Chicago, thus far these conditions were common to all facilities which led to laws that changed the bad patterns of these manufactures. Workers with peculiar diseases in the meat factory had no alternative, but to work in the poor condition due to the activities and establishments of production which showed no well being for the employees and as to what they might be going through. The rise in the economy recommended the young, old, men and women to seek for jobs in the meat packing industrywhich had a vast employment rate. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Vapor Pressure The properties of freezing point, boiling point, vapor pressure, and osmotic pressure are properties that can be manipulated based on the ratio of a solute in a solution compared to the pure solvent. A pure solvent is generally a liquid compound that has the ability to dissolve other materials chemically. Decreased freezing point is the temperature at which the solution or solvent becomes solid, leaving the solute behind. The boiling point is how much it takes for the pressure of the water to become more than the atmospheric pressure or when the vapor pressure of the liquid becomes greater than the atmospheric pressure. Vapor pressure can be described in terms of the pressure rates of molecules going in or out of a state of liquid or gas... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A colligative property is the property of a solution that differs from the solute when an ionic compound is added to the solute and it depends on the ratio of dissolved particles to the solvent in a solution. Colligative properties are properties of a solvent and change with the presence of a solute, but these are properties that are independent of what the solvent and solute are. Freezing point is the temperature at which the solution or solvent becomes solid. An example of freezing point property in action is when salt is added to water and is spread on ice, causing the water and the ice to have a lower freezing point. As seen when brine is applied to roadways, the solvent water, when combined with the solute salt, the freezing point is lowered. The boiling point property is demonstrated when the pressure of the water becomes more than the atmospheric pressure, or when the vapor pressure of a liquid becomes greater than the atmospheric pressure in a closed environment. An example of ionic compounds in boiling would be to add salt to water when boiling water for cooking pasta. When the salt is added, the boiling point becomes higher, which in turn creates the potential to cook the pasta at a higher temperature to save time. Vapor pressure is the amount of pressure that is applied by the vapor in the air or in a contained environment on the substance from which it came. An example of vapor ... • 11. Nancy Mairs s Passage In The Passage Of Nancy Mair In the passage, Nancy Mairs presents herself as an empowered, intelligent, and strong cripple. The first line is I am a cripple which is pretty straightforward, and the matter of fact tone that it is stated in stays pretty consistent throughout the entire passage. Mairs upfront attitude from the start convinces the reader that she is unafraid to identify herself however she wants. Later she states that she refuses to pretend that the only differences between you and me are the various ordinary ones that distinguish any one person from another . She is realistic to a point that she occasionally seems cynical, but deeper analysis of the text reveals that that is untrue. Throughout the entire passage, Mairs establishes that she is extremely intelligent. She uses a colorful vocabulary (semantic, euphemism, calamitous) and complex sentences. Mairs also makes reference to famous authors and their work. Mairs says my God is not a Handicapper General, which alludes to Harrison Bergeron, a short story by Kurt Vonnegut, as well as a 10th century gospel piece in line 18. She establishes her intelligence in order to prove to the reader that she is simply crippled and not disabled, which suggests any incapacity physical or mental . It is clear that Mairs has no mental incapacity, and she makes this very clear purposefully. That is something I have had to experience for about 14 years of my life. My country has been suffering from really bad water conservation since forever. Rivers turn grey, fish are lacking... That is a reality the D.R.C. has to face daily. Living there made me realize how important water conservation truly is and I would like to tell you about it. According to the document Water Is Life , aquatic organisms (including insects) are indicators of water quality. I recently went to a creek in Kentucky to observe its water quality. One of the things I noticed in that creek were a few mayflies, which are one of the water quality s indicators I mentioned above. My class and I went into that creek accompanied by 2 professionals who taught us that a healthy stream should have a lot of mayflies in it. The creek I visited didn t have enough of them to be labeled as healthy . Also, trash is a big problem in water conservation. I did not see any trash in the stream which is really good and I guess it is mainly due to the stream regularly being treated. People in this area are pretty aware of how big of an impact littering has. Just think about it. This water is constantly going to be use and reused. A lot of countries in Africa are still completely unaware of how much impact littering has on water. What a lot of them do not know is that just because your river s water is not ... • 20. Definition Essay On Unconditional Love The definition of love is an intense feeling of deep affection. The love between two people should always be conditional. You can fall out of love because you are able to fall in love. Conditional love can be earned by gaining loyalty and trust in another person. When you express conditional love you love the person because of how they treat you and love you. Unconditional love is being able to love someone no matter what. When you express unconditional love for someone you care about the happiness of another person without knowing what the other person s intentions are. I prefer to offer and receive conditional love because I would not want to give false love or get false love. For example, if my boyfriend told me I look good in everything and I decided to wear a purple striped shirt with orange pants, Will I look good then? Another example is, If my boyfriend cheated on me with one of my friends, do I accept the fact and still love him? Love requires trust and commitment from both people in a relationship. Conditional love depends on what you do rather than who you are. For example, a boy tells a girl she is beautiful because she does not wear makeup or if your best friend is only supportive until you make a mistake. Those are examples of conditional love because the boy thinks she is beautiful only because she is not wearing makeup, and your best friend is only there for you until something bad goes wrong. Multifamily housing has high potential for energy savings through retrofits, but the lack of data on best practices and historical cost savings has weakened investment. Data related to energy efficiency, utilities and construction is really difficult to obtain for a building, as many multifamily owners and operators never benchmark the energy performance of their building. This critical shortage of information about building energy performance has prevented property markets from valuing energy efficiency and severely undermined both public and private efforts to increase the energy efficiency of multifamily housing. This has really affected the development of energy efficient and green policies in multi family building. Green building is about improving our design and construction practices so that the multifamily homes we build today will last longer, cost less to operate, and won t harm the health of workers and residents. It is also about protecting natural resources and improving the built environment so that ecosystems, people, enterprises and communities can thrive and prosper. The brand builder who attempts to develop a strong brand is like a golfer playing on a course with heavy roughs, deep sand traps, sharp doglegs, and vast water barriers. It is difficult to score well in such conditions. Substantial pressures and barriers, both internal and external, can inhibit the brand builder. Proliferation Of Competitors New, vigorous competitors come from a variety of sources. A host of food categories have watched Weight Watchers and Healthy Choice enter their markets through brand extension strategies. In the snack category, Frito Lay has seen regional brands expand and Budweiser s Eagle brand break out of its niche to become a major competitor. New product forms that provide real alternatives for the customer have encroached the soft drink market, bottled water, carbonated water, fruit based drinks, and new age drinks, among others. Additional competitors not only contribute to price pressure and brand complexity, but also make it much harder to gain and hold a position. They leave fewer holes in the market to exploit and fewer implementation vehicles to own. Each brand tends to be positioned more narrowly, the target markets become smaller, and the non target market becomes larger. Efforts to market to a broad segment thus become more difficult in the face of the complex brandscape Further, some new or desperate competitors may be motivated to take risks or attempt unusual approaches. The result can be destabilization of the competitive dynamics. There is also an enhanced motivation to copy anything that is successful, in part because the risks of ... Some contend that students should attain degrees in more quantitative subjects, such as math and science. Others state that vocational degrees are best in this economy. Personal views aside, a central tenet is clear a college education, often complemented by postgraduate education, is the reliable path to success for most Americans. That being said, there are still several real life obstacles that impede access to such an education. There are several, specific public policy initiatives that can help alleviate these hindrances. Most would agree that higher education encourages ingenuity and critical thinking attributes which are valuable in any profession. Though people like to cite Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg as not finishing college but finding once in a lifetime success, the rule remains that those individuals are the exception, not the rule. Having a college degree makes attaining a higher paying job possible. Clearly higher education pays off, but there are some people who do not have enough money to pay for college. Only thirty percent of Americans have earned a college degree. This number does not seem staggering, but when compared with college tuition debt to credit card debt, the results are stark. In general, Americans have more college tuition debt than credit card debt (State of the Union). When considering an average college graduate and his or her consumer/credit debt, it is easy to see why the student loan burden is one that students find increasingly difficult to confront. This is worsened by the current state of the economy, where educated men and women have difficulties finding jobs because of the market. As a result, they are straddled with student loan debt. This debt, coupled with consumer debt and dim job prospects, are a burden which can easily become overwhelming for the average 22 year old (Federal Student Aid). • 34. The Themes Of Women In Carrie By Stephen King Boys will be boys, and girls will be brutal. At least, that s the impression one gets from reading Stephen King s novel, Carrie. Endless bullying from all students on Carrie White is common at Ewen High, where the novel takes place, however, the bullying is taken more seriously by the girls. Carrie lives an unfortunate life, alone with her strictly religious mother. These factors lead to the wrath of CarrieWhite, the downfall of herself, and well, just about everyone else. King uses the theme of women and femininity to demonstrate that females often conform to hateful stereotypes, are completely different from men, and to show how religion can play a role in this. The first lesson King gives the reader is how stupid and brutal women can be when sticking together in large groups. In the opening scene, all of the girls in gym class were taking showers when Carrie Whitenoticed she was bleeding down her legs. While the other girls understood what was happening, Carriedid not; she thought she was dying. Thinking that Carrie had had her period before, all of the girls, including the good ones, begin to chant plug it up and throw feminine products at Carrie. It is no wonder that King often uses metaphors about farm animals to describe girls in the novel, as they stick together in herds. As recalled by the gym teacher, I m living in a glass house, see. • 36. Accuracy or Inaccuracy of Sensory Perception Provide at least three (3) reasons for believing in the accuracy or inaccuracy of sensory information. Sensory perception is the foundation of scientific knowledge and philosophical reality. This is one of the reasons for believing the accuracy of sensory information. Science depends on the standardization of sensory input and instruments. Human sensory organs are generally the same across the species, with few exceptions. One of the reasons why sensory information is accurate is that all human beings can basically agree on data such as the sky being blue, satin being soft, and sugar being sweet. The fact that sensory information provides a common ground for people being human is one of the reasons for believing in the accuracy of sensory information. Another reason for believing the accuracy of sensory data is that it can in many cases be measurable and predictable. This is why sensory information provides the foundation for empirical measurements and scientific data. However, there are also reasons for believing the inaccuracy of sensory information. Reasons include the variability of the human experience, including situational variables like sleep deprivation, hunger, or emotional state of being. Sensory information will be distorted when a person is too tired, angry, or hungry. Another reason to doubt the accuracy of sensory information is that not all hypotheses or issues lend themselves to be measured using sensory data. Cultural differences, gender norms, and other ... Ancient Rome helped frame architecture in the Early Renaissance, in comparison will be discussing three buildings in Italy that were influenced by classical heritage. I will discuss is a town house identified as the Palazzo Rucellai, built by Leon Battista Alberti in Florence, Italy. Alberti was known to be a humanist, which was a belief that Greeks and Romans practiced. (Dr. Beth Harris and David Zucker Alberti, Palazzo Rucellai ). It was believed that humans and their lives were more, or just as important as the Gods. Humanists also believed that God(s) made humans with a specific talent. According to the dictionary Humanism sparked interest in a system in which human interests, values, and dignity were becoming a central motif for artisans. This building was an important commission that Alberti had completed for a wealthy merchant family known as the Rucellais, and was built after the wealthy Medici family built their palazzo. According to Dr. Beth Harris and Dr. Steven Zucker, Alberti wrote multiple books. One of those books was titled The Architecture of Leon Battista Alberti Ten Books on Architecture, and was considered the most important book of architecture after the famous Ten Books on Architecture written by the ancient Roman Vitruvius. Since the king relied a large deal on the council for making decisions, Parliament did not meet as often.4 Clarendon also knew that the militia was a major part of government, but he wanted to keep the army small. He knew that a large army would make the people nervous about an absolutist monarchy. A small militia kept the country safe from a possible foreign attack.5 There was one main issue that Clarendon and Charles disagreed on very strongly: religious tolerance. Clarendon believed in using coercive acts to eliminate dissenters. However, Charles did not want to persecute people with different religious beliefs if they were not causing problems for England. In April of 1660, he put these ideas into effect with the Breda Declaration. This declaration was the first of many signs that Charles was impartial to Catholics. Parliament, however, sided with Clarendon on this conflict. In 1661, Parliament passed the Act of Uniformity. The act ended all tolerance for Presbyterianism and forced all of its followers to agree to everything in the Anglicans Book of Common Prayer. Parliament also refused to accept the king s ... Research and Advancement of Biofuel Technology Biofuels have been in major discussion amongst the government, and the science community due to the topic of global warming being caused by our greenhouse gasses produced by our excessive use of carbon producing technologies. Although we like to think that Biofuel is a relatively new fuel technology that has been developed as of late, it is not. Biofuelenergy and its usage can be traced back as far as our ancient ancestors. Wood, the first form of biofuel, was as many know used by our ancient ancestors to produce fire. Our ancestors used this form of fuel for obvious reasons such as to keep warm, and for cooking. Other biofuels, commonly referred to as first generation biofuels, are produced directly from food crops. The biofuel is ultimately derived from the starch, sugar, animal fats, and vegetable oil that these crops provide. Corn, wheat, and sugar cane are the most commonly used first generation biofuel. Corn is probably the most recognized first generation biofuel, due to the fact that it is used in the production of ethanol. Corn, like many biofuels has its advantages and disadvantages to the environment. Some advantages are that Infrastructure for planting, harvesting, and processing is already in place, majority of the plant is used for energy production (little waste). Some major disadvantages of corn are that its use in ethanol production has increased food cost world wide leading to hunger, and many fertilizers and pesticides are used in corn production ... The Theology Of Thomas Aquinas Thomas Aquinas was a one of the few philosophers to interpret the theology as a whole distinguishing the difference between theology and philosophy by explaining Law in general in a detailed account and focusing on kinds of law which he classified as Eternal, Human, Divine and Natural law. Aquinas suggests in order for law to be understood some reasoning has to be provided which is why as a philosopher what he explained could not provoke Christian beliefs, but establish a relationship between theory and religion. As a philosopher he understands and describes law as being influenced by certain actions that man chooses to act upon or refrain from, which is entirely up to us or as he may put it, an ordered rule . Eternal Law is considered a law by Aquinas in the sense that since God being the creator of the universe, every command will be passed as God understands it and will stand in its eternal form becoming eternal law. Thomas has portrayed art of eternal law being community ruled through divine reasoning provided by God meaning his reasoning must have a proper and perfect order making it eternal. Since Thomas has used an organizational structure as I explained previously, Divine Lawbeing based on revelation and extracted from Eternal Law, we learn how the bible has worked in correspondence with Divine law mainly because of how it is split into Old and New Law similar to the Old Testament and New Testament in the bible. I completely took for granted the fact that math, particularly risk, has history. The author did a fantastic job of painting a picture and explaining how, why and when concepts we use today came into being. Any manipulation or attempt to hide risk changes the outcome and outlook of a situation. This was evidenced in the Soviet Union when their government tried to exercise control by pushing the concept of risk out of consideration. The end result was a complete stifling of social and economic progress. I personally compare this scenario to what Bernstein said earlier in the book about Greek society. Although the Greeks were great philosophers and were on the cusp of discovering risk, no great inventions or discoveries in math or science happened in their time. Another thing I liked about the book was in certain areas the discussion tied back to what I am currently working with on our StockTrak assignment specifically, the topes of options and dividends. Bernstein told the story of how in 1973 Fischer Black and Myron Scholes created an options pricing model and tried to have their work published. Although their work wasn t accepted because neither Black nor Scholes had advanced degrees, their work went on to become very instrumental in options pricing and liabilities.
