Classroom Setting And Proposed Set Of Classroom Rules
I. Classroom Setting and Proposed Set of Classroom Rules
The classroom setting for the following procedures is a 2nd grade classroom. I will set high
expectations for my students from the first day of school. The learning environment in my classroom
will be warm, open, and fair. The rules proposed for my classroom are as follows:
1. Raise Your Hand Before You Speak
2. Be in Your Seat and Ready to Learn When Lessons Begin
3. Listen When Others Are Speaking
4. Work Quietly and Respect Those Learning Around You
5. Follow Directions The First Time
6. Keep Hands, Feet, and Objects to Yourself
7. Always Use Walking Feet in the Classroom and Hallway

If needed, apologize to any classmate for unkind actions.
Remain seated until Mrs. Hutchcraft dismisses you.
IV. Describe your future classroom procedures for using the drinking fountain.
Students will refer to the hand signal chart posted by the smartboard and the procedure will be as
follows:
Raise your hand and hold up three fingers. (This is easy to remember because it looks like a W for
water.)
Wait for the teacher to respond with the same hand signal while nodding yes or no.
Stop by the door and pick up the water fountain lanyard.
Walk directly to the nearest water fountain and back remembering hallway behavior the entire time.
V. Describe your future classroom procedures for gaining the attention of the whole class.
Attention grabbers or whole brain response is a wonderful way to get your students attention. The
procedure is simple. I will say a phrase, and the students will respond with the corresponding phrase.
These will be taught throughout the first week of school. In order for the system to remain effective, I
will have several cues to rotate. The follow are just a few examples of my favorite.
Class, Class ..... Yes, Yes!
Holy Moly ..... Guacamole!
Macaroni Cheese ..... Everybody Freeze!
Flat tire ..... Shhh!
Tootsie Roll, Lollipop ..... We ve been talking now let s stop!

The Causes And Impacts Of September 11, 2001
On September 11, 2001 a terrorist group hijacked four planes that were flying above the United States.
Two of them were flown into the twin towers of the world center in New York, Another was crashed
into the Pentagon the top military building between Washington D.C and Virginia and the last plane
crashed into a field, 80 miles from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Twin Towers in New York were
severely hit it, injured and killed 403 officers and firefighters,it was a very sad day. All the people that
are alive today and went through it could tell the story what happened in September 11, 2001. It also
killed and injured a lot of civilians, and only about 5 to 15 people survived that day. Did you know
that one plane hit and about a hour later the second one hit and the twin towers fell and made dust go
everywhere. Now I will tell you about the other planes that was hijacked. One of the other planes hit
the Pentagon in Washington D.C outside of Shanksville, Pennsylvania. It killed 2,753 people and even
more could of died. The crash made a gash that is 30 yards wide and 10 yards deep, puncturing the
three outer rings of the building. It was in fire for 36 hours, and by the time they put it out 189 people
were dead. In early October, 2001 they started rebuilding the Pentagon, It was officially completed in
February 2003 and it cost them 5 Billion Dollars to rebuild but it was worth it. Flight 93 was the last
plane and it hit a field. It hit a field because the passengers

Marshmallow Experiment Dbq
The Marshmallow Experiment Does willpower matter? According to an experiment that took place in
1968, children who had more willpower generally ended up being more successful than those that
were not able to control themselves. The marshmallow experiment is an experiment that involved four
year olds where they were given the option to either one marshmallow immediately, or if they waited
fifteen minutes they would receive two marshmallows. I believe that willpower plays a major part in
being successful. According to source 1, The difference between a child who could only wait thirty
seconds and a child who could wait fifteen minutes was that the high delayer had a SAT score that
was, on average, two hundred and ten points higher than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the experiment was revisited at the University of Rochester they found out, Behavioral cues
play a big role in determining who holds out for that second marshmallow, and the results call into
question how much self control actually has to do with it. (Source 2) There are some people that say
that self control does not have to do much with the experiment, however, the children that took place
in the experiment in 1968 were coming up with strategies to avoid the marshmallow. They would
avoid thinking about the marshmallow and did just about anything to avoid thinking about the
marshmallow. Some of the other children were not able to control themselves and rang the bell almost
immediately. Self control is a major key to delayed gratification. In source 2 it says, If a child or adult
lives in an environment where promises always get broken and outcomes are unreliable, the most
rational response is to eat the marshmallow right in front of her and not wait for the promised
marshmallows in the future. This can be true but self control and mindset come into play here as well.
If you can control yourself to wait and have the mindset that the marshmallow that was promised will
be delivered you will be able to wait. The children or people have never seen the professor that
promised them this marshmallow and it depends on their mindset if they believe he/she will truly
deliver the second

The Importance Of Communication In Speaking In Tongues By...
After its birth, glass becomes one kind of useful material in people s physical life. It has one unique
nature that, after some little modifications, it can be qualified to accomplish totally different tasks, for
example serving as windows and mirrors, to benefit the people who use it. Meanwhile, towards people
s mental experience, the communication is similar to glass in nature, and plays the same role. In such a
modern and pluralistic society, the accelerating pace of life and the increasing amount of information
bombardment people s brains; The high frequency of contacts with internet, which is an infinite
source of knowledge, also exhausts their time to think over themselves and then makes them easily to
become a pollyanna, which means the people who keep blind optimism without a certain life
direction. Whatever online or offline, the communication, which is the most important and common
way people have interactions between each other, plays an essential role that improve people s
identities and avoiding the astray of life. Sherry Turkle, the writer of Reclaiming Conversation ,
expresses her ideas in the Empathy Diaries that the conversation, especially the face to face
conversation, is essential for children s development of the skill of social communication.
Furthermore, Zadie Smith, the writer of Speaking in Tongues , expresses the idea with deeper
meaning, which not only shows the function of communication, but also indicates tongue s influence

The Cultural And Religious Traditions Of The European...
In an eastern Mediterranean province, a group of pious individuals pray before the elaborate portrait
of a local saint and hero, hoping the image will bestow upon them some semblance of safety and
secure for them a good harvest and protection from the aggressive invaders who continue to threaten
their lands to the south. The individuals know little about the movement stirring in the large city to the
north, which seeks to remove the holy image to which they so ardently pray. From the west, rumors of
a new Creed have made their way to the town, but the grand political and historical implications of

Though such controversies alone have many theological and religious implications, they can only be
truly understood in the political and historical context in which they arose.
Religious icons, or images, may include paintings, murals, portraits, or mosaics, which, in the seventh
through ninth centuries, commonly depicted Christ, the likeness of a saint, or a particular scene from
scripture. The dispute over the use of icons and religious imagery in the Church, and the nature of this
use amongst the laity, began in the Eastern Roman Empire, or Byzantine Empire, in the late seventh
century, with the movement against icons, or the iconoclasm movement, reaching its height in the mid
ninth century. The use of Icons in Christian practice began in the Coptic Church in Egypt, and spread
throughout the Byzantium Empire, developing into a vital form of religious education and
communication for the laity throughout the East. Those who opposed religious iconography, did so on
the basis of scripture, as the practice of icon use was clearly condemned in Old Testament text. As the
use of every religious icon could not be explicitly regulated, it was difficult for religious and imperial
authorities to determine how such icons were used by the public. Thus, as it was unknown whether the
laity prayed before or to the icons in their community, all religious icons were removed to prevent the
risk of unorthodoxy and the potential practice of idolatry (Brubaker et al., 2011).

Dalai Lama Beliefs
Tibet is located to the south west of China, bordering India, Nepal, Burma and Bhutan. Originally,
Tibet was made up of 3 provinces: U Tsang, Kham and Amdo. The mainstream religion in Tibet is
Tibetan Buddhism, different than regular Buddhism. Tibet was ruled by the Dalai Lama, a political
and spiritual leader for the Tibetans. The practices of Tibetan Buddhism are part of the Tibetan people
s culture and are incorporated into their everyday life. This way of life is one that values all beings on
Earth and is followed by very few people around the globe. Today, Tibet is not governed by the Dalai
Lama, and the practice of Tibetan Buddhism is diminishing. On October 9, 1950, China invaded the
country of Tibet. The Chinese, under communist rule, overthrew the Dalai Lama as a political leader.
Since then, the Tibetan people have set up a government in exile that still helps with some Tibetan

Imperialism And Modernization In Japan
By the nineteenth century Western nations had developed superior military technology than other
countries. Western countries were able to control other nations by coercing them into unfair trading
treaties which would leave the country economically dependent on them. The countries rarely resisted
successfully due to their insufficient military power. This occured often Asia with only Japan and
Thailand remaining independent. Only Japan thrived however and became an imperial power. Japan
was an isolated country until the United States forcibly opened it to trade. Japan experienced a regime
change following a tumultuous time in which western nations coerced Japan into trade treaties. The
new government favored capitalism and industry which lead to Japan industrializing impressively fast
through top down government mandated modernization. Western imperialism forced Japan to
modernize in order to remain a sovereign and successful state. Modernization in this case was
synonymous with becoming more like the West. Imperialism drastically changed Japanese economic
interaction as well as Japanese culture and class system because modernization included becoming
more like the West in most aspects but their treatment of women remained the same because the West
did not treat women very differently.
Before an American naval commander opened Japan, the country was extremely isolated. Interaction
with other nations was limited. Trade was discouraged in society due to Neo Confucian

time surgeons were known for the treating of wounds, amputations, and treatment of broken bone.
Picture yourself lying on a dirty cot, or soiled table waiting for the surgeon to come in. When he

your limb. He calls in for help in holding you down and picks up a stained saw and prepares to remove

It was during his time in Edinburg that he began to see how keeping the work area clean helped in
keeping down infection although he could not fully explain why this was the case. In the beginning it
was believed that infections were caused by a chemical reaction when air touched the wounds. After
further studying the work of Louis Pasteur and performing experiments of his own; he discovered that
bacteria was introduced into a wound when the skin was broken and when the patient spent extended
time in the hospital following surgery. Lister spent the next five years conducting his own research on
the matter. He heard about the use of Carbolic acid in the sewage systems to kill odor and got the idea
to try it on a surgery. He first tried it on an eleven year old boy suffering from a compound fracture of
his leg. Lister applied the carbolic acid to the wound and then covered it in lint soaked in the acid as
well. When he checked on the wound a few days after surgery there was no sign of swelling or foul
odor. Lister redressed the wound this time using a diluted form of the carbolic acid and six weeks later
the little boy walked out of the hospital suffering no ill effects. Following the success of this surgery
Lister went on to perform several other surgeries that were deemed too risky due to the threat of
infection. He even performed surgery on a patient with a fractured knee cap and also on a patient

BIOC222 Lactate Dehydrogenase Assay Lab Report
Introduction
In this investigation, the inhibition of Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH) Enzyme isolated from
Dissostichus mawsoni by oxamic acid will be analysed through spectrophotometric assays, and
compared with parallel experimental data obtained from other groups using a different inhibitor (⍺
ketoglutarate), and using LDH obtained from a different fish (Squalus acanthias). LDH is a tetrameric
enzyme with two different types of subunits, subunit M and subunit H. This allows the LDH enzyme
to exist in five different isoforms. The differences between different isoforms of LDH will be
examined through polyacrymide gel electrophoresis and subsequent stains for protein presence and
activity.

Aspartate and Glutamate are the two negatively charged canonical amino acids, due to their negatively
charged side chain groups, and therefore these amino acids would contribute to greater negativity
within the H subunit. The spacing of bands visible on the polyacrymide gel of the gel electrophoresis
is regular because the negativity of each isoform is determined by the subunits which comprise it
(either the H or M subunit). Therefore the negative charge on each isoform will change at regular
intervals as the subunit composition of the isoform

The Socialization Of Lesbian Clients
One of the issues that should be addressed in treatment is the socialization that lesbian clients
participate in. In treatment, it is necessary to give any client tools for recovery. These tools should
include alternative activities that do not revolve around the getting and using of alcohol and drugs.
This may be a difficultly task when dealing with LGBT clients especially since there are not many
options for socialization besides bars, clubs, or parties. In Oklahoma there are about 333 thousand
same sex couples per the 2010 Census (The Williams Institute, 2011). Oklahoma has some programs
and organizations that give the LGBT community different opportunities where they can meet other
members without being surrounded by alcohol and drugs. Two main organizations are specific geared
towards lesbians. Herland offers social and educational services that focus on lesbian issues but is
offer to all women (Herland, 2008). Herland is an excellent organization to recommend to lesbian
clients located in Oklahoma. The second organization is known as OKCLesbian. Additionally,
OKCLesbian offers substitutions for socializations at bars, clubs, and church. They often have large
dinner events called Lez Eat where local lesbians can get together, have fun, and enjoy a nice meal
together. Giving clients different choices to socialize in sobriety may perhaps increase their likelihood
of staying sober and finding new friends to enjoy it with. Alcoholics Anonymous is one of the

a.)
b.) There will be a shortage created. Initially the public might be happy about the price ceiling, but
soon after the sellers will begin to ration the graham crackers based on other factors since the one
most willing to pay will no longer be a factor. Also, this might cause consumers to stand in long lines
in order to be able to purchase the graham crackers, but since there are not enough graham crackers
supplied, not everyone will be able to purchase the graham crackers. In the end, producers will move
on to produce other products that are more profitable than graham crackers, worsening the shortage.

The Influence Of Helen Keller In William Gibson s The...
The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched they must be felt with
the heart. This inspirational quote was stated by Helen Keller, the deaf and blind women who acquired
these handicaps at the age of only one and a half years old. At six years of age, teacher and mentor
Anne Sullivan helped her learn the English language; and moved on to help Keller learn to speak. All
through this journey, Helen Keller s parents Kate and Arthur Keller as well as step brother James and
other family members influenced this miraculous road to success. Influential and motivating, this story
was displayed throughout the nonfiction drama, The Miracle Worker, by William Gibson. As depicted
in the drama by Kate, Anne and Helen, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This child s main hope was to come out of herself and communicate with others. This desire was
fulfilled by her teacher, who allowed her to learn. Throughout the drama, Helen was not able to learn
until she wanted to do so, which was realized early on by Anne. While Helen s family did not notice,
Annie knew that this bright child had an aspiration to learn. This is evidently displayed in the
gardenhouse with Anne, Helen, and Percy, a young friend of Helen s. At this time, Anne was teaching
Percy a new word, but Helen attempted to be part of this. After her hand comes in to learn the word,
Annie pushes it away, though Helen insists. Resulting, Annie responded, No, why should I talk to
you? I m teaching Percy a new word. L. K is this (Gibson 532). Though Helen did not hear her say
this statement, it caused her to shove Percy away and plunge her hand into the mix. For Anne, this
event finally verified the fact that Helen had the desire to learn and fundamentally, wanted to unlock

The poem The Tyger by William Blake
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men liberally, and upbraids not, and it
shall be given to him. These wise words of King James verse (1:5) of the bible portrays an underlying
message that although we should follow in God s path, we are not expected to follow blindly.
Likewise, in the poem The Tyger by William Blake, it s theme is a reflection of what this quote
implies. Throughout this poem, Blake explores the possibility of questioning God while using the
structure of the poem, as well as the irony of God s character, and several sound devices in hopes of
communicating a message, that to question God is only human nature.
First of all, the structure of Blake s poem really contributes to emphasizing it s theme. Roughly the
poem is divided into three major parts, the author starts by describing a tiger, a ferocious and deadly
animal. He slowly transitions into questioning the creation of the Tyger, which he purposely and
carefully organizes as context to the third stage where he will prove what he is trying to convey
through this poem. And what shoulder, and what art. Could twist the sinews of thy heart? (11 120)
This quote, taken from the second part of this poem s structure displays an example the kind of
questions Blake would ask about the tiger s creation. It supports the theme by helping to create
suspense to really magnifying the third part of the poem s structure by making the reader really think,
which is essential in

Manfred, Self-Obortion In The Chamois Hunter
Manfred s autonomy develops through two phases in the poem, moving from somewhat dependent to
completely independent after Astarte refuses to show him forgiveness. Phase one of Manfred s is best
described by his search for an outside relief from the guilt he bares because of Astarte. He begins by
summoning the seven spirits in the hopes that they will have some reprieve from his suffering by a
way other than death, which he describes as, oblivion, self oblivion (Act 1, 144 146). The spirits
cannot insure this to Manfred for it is a concept they themselves cannot fully comprehend: We are
immortal and do not forget (Act 1, 149). Unsatisfied with this answer Manfred tries to impart his own
relief by committing suicide (Act 1, 109). However, during this act he still seeks an escape dictated by
an outside power, such as the eagle he sees: Well thou swoop so near me I should be thy prey and
gorge thine eaglets (Act 1, 32 33). The Chamois Hunter interrupts this attempt forcing Manfred to
continue on his journey of seeking a remedy. Manfred grows stronger in his confidence of
independent autonomy after this incident. When he summons the Witch and she presents him with the
possibility of relieving his suffering if he will swear obedience to [her] will and do [her] bidding she
will provide him an escape (Act 2, 155 157). Manfred readily refuses this and and states the he will
never be the slave of those who served [him] (Act 2, 158 160). This only grows when Manfred goes

The Occult in A Tale of the Ragged Mountains
The Occult in A Tale of the Ragged Mountains
In his collection of criticism on Poe s stories, Thompson discusses the use of the occult in A Tale of
the Ragged Mountains. He begins the article by explaining that this story might be the product of Poe
s fascination with, but detached attitudes toward, the pseudoscientific occultism of his age. He gives
us some technical terms for the techniques that Poe uses in this story: metempsychosis is the
transmigration of souls, and is the word that surfaces frequently throughout this discussion of Ragged
Mountains. First Thompson discusses the idea that Poe set up the tale in a very specific way; as he
puts it, Poe himself wove a web for the purpose of unraveling. He ... Show more content on

However, Thompson quotes Sidney E. Lind s ideas on the story. Lind believes that this is not really a
realistically handled tale of the supernatural, but ... a psychological tale based on the possibilities of
occult science. Basically, he is suggesting that Poe is merely speculating about what his readers might
want to read, and is not really writing a tale based on his beliefs of the supernatural.
Thompson then goes on to say that Lind discusses Ragged Mountains as an ambiguous but simple
hoax. All of the characters in the story are deceived, as is the reader of the tale if he misses the clues
and takes the psychological tale as a supernatural one. Poe has written the tale as a psychological
thriller, not an eerily spooky, other worldly story. Also supporting this idea of the story being a hoax is
the fact that there are numerous similarities between this story and one by Charles Brockden Brown
titled Edgar Huntley. The coincidences are too numerous to mention, but they are easily seen if one
reads both of the story. By almost plagiarizing this tale, Thompson claims that Poe is burlesquing,
even parodying, Edgar Huntley. It appears as if Thompson is trying to suggest that this is not really a
serious story. One final, interesting note is the presence of the hyena in the story. Where Edgar
Huntley uses panthers in his story, Poe has used a hyena running

Life Changing Moment In Law Abiding Citizen
I m sure everyone has had a moment in life that traumatizes them; an entity that impacts the person
you are today. Well, that life changing moment happened to Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler), once a
normal suburban dad, until one day his life turns upside down when two robbers kill his wife and
daughter. This one of a kind story shows how the law system really works. Throughout this film you
feel the anger and hunger for revenge of this heartbroken father. Clyde Shelton and a headstrong
prosecutor Nick (Jamie Foxx), experience multiple attempts of premediated murder and skillful
payback. In the busy city of Philadelphia during the late 1990 s, the movie starts with what some
would say a normal family getting ready for dinner. The family s night takes a drastic turn when
intruders violently raid their home. The father (Gerard Butler) is forced to watch his wife and daughter
get murdered. 10 years later, the father is on a man hunt for everyone that had something to do with
the case. Throughout the movie, the prosecutor (Jamie Foxx) tries to stop the damaged father from his
bloodlust. This movie is centered around Gerard Butler, known for his dramatic and dark roles in

The Problems Associated With Hegemonic Masculinity Essay
THE PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH HEGEMONIC MASCULINITY IN SOCIETY
Introduction
The discourse of hegemonic masculinity was recently explored to understand the power of men in
society (Connell Messerschmidt, 2005). For centuries, men have taken a dominant gender role in
society. This has resulted in the oppression of women and the subordination of men who do not
confine to the masculine norms (Connell Messerschmidt, 2005). This essay explores the discourse of
hegemonic masculinity by explaining how it is reflected throughout society, and how it is connected to
femininity and other masculinities. The aim is to criticise hegemonic masculinity by explaining the
negative pressure it puts on both women and men.
Masculinity Hegemony
To understand the concrete basis of hegemonic masculinity more easily, the terms hegemonic and
masculinity will be deconstructed. Hegemonic represents what is dominant and most powerful in a
societal or political context (Merriman Webster, n.d.). Masculinity is a socially constructed term that
represents behaviour that is socially acceptable for men (Connell Messerschmidt, 2005; Lynch, 2009).
Therefore, hegemonic masculinity refers to a set of norms and practices that are deemed as the
dominant norm for men (Connell Messerschmidt, 2005; Lynch, 2009). Although the term is tied with
men, hegemonic masculinity is not tied to the biological form of men. Alternatively, it is a gendered
performance which means that its associated

The Importance Of Canadian Peacekeeping
As the name suggests, peacekeepers are unbiased special forces whose job is to go in locations where
there is a state of conflict and use their negotiation skills to prevent the two sides from engaging in
war. This is what the Canadian army has been doing since the Cold War to prevent small conflicts to
turn into World War III. This is also what they should keep doing to prevent some major wars. Yet,
there are also people who prefer to engage in war rather than peaceful means. Today, not everyone
knows who they are, what they do, who created the Canadian peacekeeping forces and how today s
peacekeeping forces remember their predecessors.
Initially, to understand why they are necessary it is important to understand who these forces are, what

Some of the Conservatives argue that while working on keeping the world safe Canada s defenses
were getting weaker. Thus, they shut down most of the operations of peacekeeping and the Pearson

have been valuable to troops left to navigate their way through that complex and chaotic environment
of Kandahar. (The end of peacekeeping). In this quote, he explains the usefulness of the peacekeepers

rds or damaged cords can be easily overloaded creating hotspots and represent a true fire and shock
hazard the other challenge you re going to have you usually have a lot of low power consuming
devices in there but they all need a plug so one option would be to put in an approved power cube the
problem with the cube tap is they re subject to user abuse you can cascade them by plugging more and
more into them which creates a hotspot and again it s a fire hazard so not really the preferred way to

amount of power being used through the device second of all it has multiple outlets to meet all your
needs and finally it has surge suppression which will protect your sensitive electronic equipment don t
take a shortcut don t use extension cords get a permanently installed outlet there to meet all of your

The Importance Of Music In My Life
While most other people listen to music they often use the phrases This song is my life., This song
perfectly describes ME. Unfortunately, I am unable to use any of those phrases. I have always had a
hard time finding one song that perfectly fit all the distant corners of my personality, or the situations I
have had to endure. I have had to settle with finding songs that could fit in the playlist called my life.
My life has been one of the most intense rides ever to be ridden in history. Music has helped me
during the times I confronted my biological father about all of my feelings. It has helped me learn how
to not dwell on feeling guilty for expressing how I actually feel. Music has taught me to embrace my
insecurities, and it has guided me in discovering what I want to do with my career. Finally, music has
helped me love myself for what I truly am and nothing that I am not. Music is a powerful force that
cannot only influence other people s attitude, but it also can contribute to their actions. Other people
find serenity in art, jogging, or even MMA fighting, but music is my therapy. The one song that has
made a huge impact on my playlist would have to be Praying, by Kesha. In her music video, she starts
with a monologue that hit me on a personal level that has been something that I live by during my
everyday life. It goes, Am I dead or is this one of those dreams that seems like it goes on forever. If I

Fossil Fuels Are An Important Part Of The World
Introduction Fossil fuels are an extremely important part of the world we live in today. We often take
for granted being able to constantly have privileges because of the use of fossil fuels. Most people do
not generally think about the fossil fuels that they use, when they turn on a light and have electricity or
when they are driving and are getting from place to place because of the gas in their tanks. However,
as time goes on we have to be more conscious and realize that these fossil fuels are non renewable, so
we use as little as possible to ensure that we will not run out. This paper is going to delve deep into
fossil fuels, why they are non renewable , the three different types specifically, some advantages and

Like the others, coal was formed from the remains of trees and plants, and in some places it was
formed from swamps. They explain, The sea water contained a large amount of sulfur, and as the seas
dried up, the sulfur was left behind in the coal (DOE Fossil Energy: How Fossil Fuels Were Formed).
There is some coal that is formed from freshwater swamps, where there is very little sulfur. Due to the
fact that sulfur is an air pollutant, scientists are working on being able to remove the sulfur from the
coal (DOE Fossil Energy: How Fossil Fuels Were Formed).
Non renewable
These fossil fuels are known as non renewable , because if we continue to use them at the pace we do
now we will run out. There is only a finite amount of each and due to the fact that we use so much
there will be no more left, at least as long as humans are around. By continuing to extract the coal, oil,
and natural gas, at the rate we are, we are hurting ourselves and the environment and eventually it is
going to catch up with us. Alternative Energy says, ...worst is the lack of preparation for moving over
to renewable energy sources in a manner that will minimize the unprecedented economic and social
disruption due to the impending depletion of this resource (Fossil Fuel). We have to find a way to

Essay The Arrival
English Speech
The Arrival by Shaun Tan is a graphic novel which follows the story of a man who embarks on the
journey of migration. The notions of belonging that are highlighted in the text are belonging to a place
and belonging to a family. The composer establishes these through the masterful employment of
various visual techniques.
One of the foremost themes of the novel is the concept of belonging to a place, in particular the
connection to a homeland. A disturbance in the main environment signifies as the stimulating factor
for the disruption of the man s sense of belonging. There exists an fragmented sense of existence in
the old land, something that is established primarily by the ominous, malicious serpent like figures

Tan is thus able to illustrate to his audience, a true appreciation of belonging to a place and its
connotations. In addition to this, belonging to a family is a key concept in this novel. The novel opens
with an alluring introduction to the family; a blissful atmosphere is created through the picturesque
icons of their family life. The composer uses small photograph like icons to allude towards the widely
acknowledged contentment that is readily associated with the memories in a picture album. Tan
introduces the motif of the paper crane which he carries through the length of his novel as a symbol of
affection and belonging between the family members. The next pages signify the break in contentment
as the man begins his journey and a salient image of the couple with their hands grasping the other s
parallels the anxiety and despair in their downcast facial expressions. Although the gloomy
atmosphere, the light sepia tones in the picture allow an insight into the tender and loving relationship
that the family members share. Upon the man s departure the paper crane motif returns and he hands it
to his daughter as a token of his undying love for her. His migratory experience is studded by the
comfort and ease that he obtains from a picture of his family. In paralleled scenes on the boat and the
new apartment, the

Theory Of Planned Behavior
In the Public Field, we are constantly applying theories in order to better understand how the public
works and to better assist the communities in different aspects of health. According to Glanz, Rimer,
and Viswanath (2008), theories in which focus on beliefs and actions of individuals are the first
theories of health behavior that are still being practiced around the world today. The individual
theories either known as intrapersonal theories that are still being used today are the following: Health
Belief Model (HBM), Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), Transtheoretical Model (TTM), and the
Precaution Adoption Process Model (PAPM) (Glanz, Rimer, Viswanath, 2008). Each one of these
individual theories can be applied to different scenarios ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although many programs apply these theories, there can be advantages and disadvantages of
integrating them into prevention programs. A disadvantage in theories in which actions are required in
a program is that policy or social context could be affected (Glanz, Rimer, Viswanath, 2008).
Mammography screening is an example of this. Policies may require that the women test at a certain
age. One of the advantages of integrating these theories into prevention programs is that these theories
can be useful to find out why people are not following positive health behaviors (National Institute of
Health, n.d.). An example would be of a person who over eats due to his or her situation at home.
Therefore, the program may want to incorporate the Health Belief Model to change the way they think
about that health behavior. The second advantage of applying a theory to a prevention program is that
theories allow us to understand targeted health behaviors (National Institute of Health, n.d.). In an
addiction program, it would be important to understand targeted health behaviors in order to know
which form of intervention is going to be assessed in the

Anabolic Steroids In Sports
In society today, winning is considered everything. Man is always trying to beat their opponent no
matter what it takes. Some athletes are willing to do anything that could potentially be life threatening
in order to get their 15 seconds of fame. This something is known as anabolic steroids. Anabolic
steroids have come to improve many athletes physical activity, but also ruin an immense amount of
lives forever. Although it may give someone the power to feel good, be stronger, and build up more
muscle, the negative effects strongly outweigh the positives. All athletes dream big. They have the
desire to stand on the podium with a gold metal, receive an athletic award, or win the world
championships. Sometimes the desire to achieve gets so high ... Show more content on

Unfortunately, it is not completely uncommon for athletes to test positive for steroids. Amazing,
talented competitors like Barry Bonds, Marion Jones, and Lance Armstrong were all illegal users of
steroids. They did as many things as they could to not get caught, but eventually they did. Imagine all
of the die hard fans that found out that their favorite athlete cheated through sports. Kids look up to
athletes as role models and aspire to be like them one day, but the let down of discovering that an
athlete wasn t competing the way its body naturally could is devastating. Seeing all this success
through the use of steroids could actually promote people to use it. This is an extremely bad idea
because anabolic steroids ultimately lead to a path of physical and mental hopelessness. Anabolic
steroids can be extremely harmful. If the body is already producing a proper amount of testosterone,
there is no reason to be adding more. It is unhealthy for the body and results in abnormal effects.
Acne, liver disorders, blood pressure increase, possible HIV, sexual diseases, atrophy, infertility,
prostate enlargement, lower speaking voice, thinner hair, aggressive behavior, depression, and lower
hormonal levels are just a few of the side effects as a result of taking steroids. None of these are
positive, so why should athletes be using them if they have

Stop by the door and pick up the water fountain lanyard. Walk directly to the nearest water fountain and back remembering hallway behavior the entire time. V. Describe your future classroom procedures for gaining the attention of the whole class. Attention grabbers or whole brain response is a wonderful way to get your students attention. The procedure is simple. I will say a phrase, and the students will respond with the corresponding phrase. These will be taught throughout the first week of school. Two of them were flown into the twin towers of the world center in New York, Another was crashed into the Pentagon the top military building between Washington D.C and Virginia and the last plane crashed into a field, 80 miles from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Twin Towers in New York were severely hit it, injured and killed 403 officers and firefighters,it was a very sad day. All the people that are alive today and went through it could tell the story what happened in September 11, 2001. It also killed and injured a lot of civilians, and only about 5 to 15 people survived that day. Did you know that one plane hit and about a hour later the second one hit and the twin towers fell and made dust go everywhere. Now I will tell you about the other planes that was hijacked. One of the other planes hit the Pentagon in Washington D.C outside of Shanksville, Pennsylvania. It killed 2,753 people and even more could of died. The crash made a gash that is 30 yards wide and 10 yards deep, puncturing the three outer rings of the building. It was in fire for 36 hours, and by the time they put it out 189 people were dead. In early October, 2001 they started rebuilding the Pentagon, It was officially completed in February 2003 and it cost them 5 Billion Dollars to rebuild but it was worth it. • 5. Marshmallow Experiment Dbq The Marshmallow Experiment Does willpower matter? According to an experiment that took place in 1968, children who had more willpower generally ended up being more successful than those that were not able to control themselves. The marshmallow experiment is an experiment that involved four year olds where they were given the option to either one marshmallow immediately, or if they waited fifteen minutes they would receive two marshmallows. I believe that willpower plays a major part in being successful. According to source 1, The difference between a child who could only wait thirty seconds and a child who could wait fifteen minutes was that the high delayer had a SAT score that was, on average, two hundred and ten points higher than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the experiment was revisited at the University of Rochester they found out, Behavioral cues play a big role in determining who holds out for that second marshmallow, and the results call into question how much self control actually has to do with it. (Source 2) There are some people that say that self control does not have to do much with the experiment, however, the children that took place in the experiment in 1968 were coming up with strategies to avoid the marshmallow. They would avoid thinking about the marshmallow and did just about anything to avoid thinking about the marshmallow. Some of the other children were not able to control themselves and rang the bell almost immediately. Self control is a major key to delayed gratification. In source 2 it says, If a child or adult lives in an environment where promises always get broken and outcomes are unreliable, the most rational response is to eat the marshmallow right in front of her and not wait for the promised marshmallows in the future. This can be true but self control and mindset come into play here as well. If you can control yourself to wait and have the mindset that the marshmallow that was promised will be delivered you will be able to wait. The children or people have never seen the professor that promised them this marshmallow and it depends on their mindset if they believe he/she will truly deliver the second ... It has one unique nature that, after some little modifications, it can be qualified to accomplish totally different tasks, for example serving as windows and mirrors, to benefit the people who use it. Meanwhile, towards people s mental experience, the communication is similar to glass in nature, and plays the same role. In such a modern and pluralistic society, the accelerating pace of life and the increasing amount of information bombardment people s brains; The high frequency of contacts with internet, which is an infinite source of knowledge, also exhausts their time to think over themselves and then makes them easily to become a pollyanna, which means the people who keep blind optimism without a certain life direction. In an eastern Mediterranean province, a group of pious individuals pray before the elaborate portrait of a local saint and hero, hoping the image will bestow upon them some semblance of safety and secure for them a good harvest and protection from the aggressive invaders who continue to threaten their lands to the south. Though such controversies alone have many theological and religious implications, they can only be truly understood in the political and historical context in which they arose. Religious icons, or images, may include paintings, murals, portraits, or mosaics, which, in the seventh through ninth centuries, commonly depicted Christ, the likeness of a saint, or a particular scene from scripture. The dispute over the use of icons and religious imagery in the Church, and the nature of this use amongst the laity, began in the Eastern Roman Empire, or Byzantine Empire, in the late seventh century, with the movement against icons, or the iconoclasm movement, reaching its height in the mid ninth century. The use of Icons in Christian practice began in the Coptic Church in Egypt, and spread throughout the Byzantium Empire, developing into a vital form of religious education and communication for the laity throughout the East. Those who opposed religious iconography, did so on the basis of scripture, as the practice of icon use was clearly condemned in Old Testament text. As the use of every religious icon could not be explicitly regulated, it was difficult for religious and imperial authorities to determine how such icons were used by the public. Thus, as it was unknown whether the laity prayed before or to the icons in their community, all religious icons were removed to prevent the risk of unorthodoxy and the potential practice of idolatry (Brubaker et al., 2011). The mainstream religion in Tibet is Tibetan Buddhism, different than regular Buddhism. Tibet was ruled by the Dalai Lama, a political and spiritual leader for the Tibetans. The practices of Tibetan Buddhism are part of the Tibetan people s culture and are incorporated into their everyday life. This way of life is one that values all beings on Earth and is followed by very few people around the globe. Today, Tibet is not governed by the Dalai Lama, and the practice of Tibetan Buddhism is diminishing. On October 9, 1950, China invaded the country of Tibet. The Chinese, under communist rule, overthrew the Dalai Lama as a political leader. Since then, the Tibetan people have set up a government in exile that still helps with some Tibetan problems. • 10. Imperialism And Modernization In Japan By the nineteenth century Western nations had developed superior military technology than other countries. Western countries were able to control other nations by coercing them into unfair trading treaties which would leave the country economically dependent on them. The countries rarely resisted successfully due to their insufficient military power. This occured often Asia with only Japan and Thailand remaining independent. Only Japan thrived however and became an imperial power. Japan was an isolated country until the United States forcibly opened it to trade. Japan experienced a regime change following a tumultuous time in which western nations coerced Japan into trade treaties. The new government favored capitalism and industry which lead to Japan industrializing impressively fast through top down government mandated modernization. Western imperialism forced Japan to modernize in order to remain a sovereign and successful state. Modernization in this case was synonymous with becoming more like the West. Imperialism drastically changed Japanese economic interaction as well as Japanese culture and class system because modernization included becoming more like the West in most aspects but their treatment of women remained the same because the West did not treat women very differently. Before an American naval commander opened Japan, the country was extremely isolated. Interaction with other nations was limited. Trade was discouraged in society due to Neo Confucian ... It was during his time in Edinburg that he began to see how keeping the work area clean helped in keeping down infection although he could not fully explain why this was the case. In the beginning it was believed that infections were caused by a chemical reaction when air touched the wounds. After further studying the work of Louis Pasteur and performing experiments of his own; he discovered that bacteria was introduced into a wound when the skin was broken and when the patient spent extended time in the hospital following surgery. Lister spent the next five years conducting his own research on the matter. He heard about the use of Carbolic acid in the sewage systems to kill odor and got the idea to try it on a surgery. He first tried it on an eleven year old boy suffering from a compound fracture of his leg. Lister applied the carbolic acid to the wound and then covered it in lint soaked in the acid as well. When he checked on the wound a few days after surgery there was no sign of swelling or foul odor. Lister redressed the wound this time using a diluted form of the carbolic acid and six weeks later the little boy walked out of the hospital suffering no ill effects. Following the success of this surgery Lister went on to perform several other surgeries that were deemed too risky due to the threat of infection. He even performed surgery on a patient with a fractured knee cap and also on a patient ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. The Socialization Of Lesbian Clients One of the issues that should be addressed in treatment is the socialization that lesbian clients participate in. In treatment, it is necessary to give any client tools for recovery. These tools should include alternative activities that do not revolve around the getting and using of alcohol and drugs. This may be a difficultly task when dealing with LGBT clients especially since there are not many options for socialization besides bars, clubs, or parties. In Oklahoma there are about 333 thousand same sex couples per the 2010 Census (The Williams Institute, 2011). Oklahoma has some programs and organizations that give the LGBT community different opportunities where they can meet other members without being surrounded by alcohol and drugs. Two main organizations are specific geared towards lesbians. Herland offers social and educational services that focus on lesbian issues but is offer to all women (Herland, 2008). Herland is an excellent organization to recommend to lesbian clients located in Oklahoma. The second organization is known as OKCLesbian. Additionally, OKCLesbian offers substitutions for socializations at bars, clubs, and church. They often have large dinner events called Lez Eat where local lesbians can get together, have fun, and enjoy a nice meal together. At six years of age, teacher and mentor Anne Sullivan helped her learn the English language; and moved on to help Keller learn to speak. All through this journey, Helen Keller s parents Kate and Arthur Keller as well as step brother James and other family members influenced this miraculous road to success. These wise words of King James verse (1:5) of the bible portrays an underlying message that although we should follow in God s path, we are not expected to follow blindly. Likewise, in the poem The Tyger by William Blake, it s theme is a reflection of what this quote implies. Throughout this poem, Blake explores the possibility of questioning God while using the structure of the poem, as well as the irony of God s character, and several sound devices in hopes of communicating a message, that to question God is only human nature. First of all, the structure of Blake s poem really contributes to emphasizing it s theme. Roughly the poem is divided into three major parts, the author starts by describing a tiger, a ferocious and deadly animal. He slowly transitions into questioning the creation of the Tyger, which he purposely and carefully organizes as context to the third stage where he will prove what he is trying to convey through this poem. And what shoulder, and what art. Could twist the sinews of thy heart? (11 120) This quote, taken from the second part of this poem s structure displays an example the kind of questions Blake would ask about the tiger s creation. • 19. Manfred, Self-Obortion In The Chamois Hunter Manfred s autonomy develops through two phases in the poem, moving from somewhat dependent to completely independent after Astarte refuses to show him forgiveness. Phase one of Manfred s is best described by his search for an outside relief from the guilt he bares because of Astarte. He begins by summoning the seven spirits in the hopes that they will have some reprieve from his suffering by a way other than death, which he describes as, oblivion, self oblivion (Act 1, 144 146). The spirits cannot insure this to Manfred for it is a concept they themselves cannot fully comprehend: We are immortal and do not forget (Act 1, 149). Unsatisfied with this answer Manfred tries to impart his own relief by committing suicide (Act 1, 109). However, during this act he still seeks an escape dictated by an outside power, such as the eagle he sees: Well thou swoop so near me I should be thy prey and gorge thine eaglets (Act 1, 32 33). The Chamois Hunter interrupts this attempt forcing Manfred to continue on his journey of seeking a remedy. Manfred grows stronger in his confidence of independent autonomy after this incident. When he summons the Witch and she presents him with the possibility of relieving his suffering if he will swear obedience to [her] will and do [her] bidding she will provide him an escape (Act 2, 155 157). Manfred readily refuses this and and states the he will never be the slave of those who served [him] (Act 2, 158 160). This only grows when Manfred goes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. The Occult in A Tale of the Ragged Mountains The Occult in A Tale of the Ragged Mountains In his collection of criticism on Poe s stories, Thompson discusses the use of the occult in A Tale of the Ragged Mountains. He begins the article by explaining that this story might be the product of Poe s fascination with, but detached attitudes toward, the pseudoscientific occultism of his age. He gives us some technical terms for the techniques that Poe uses in this story: metempsychosis is the transmigration of souls, and is the word that surfaces frequently throughout this discussion of Ragged Mountains. First Thompson discusses the idea that Poe set up the tale in a very specific way; as he puts it, Poe himself wove a web for the purpose of unraveling. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Thompson quotes Sidney E. Lind s ideas on the story. Lind believes that this is not really a realistically handled tale of the supernatural, but ... a psychological tale based on the possibilities of occult science. Basically, he is suggesting that Poe is merely speculating about what his readers might want to read, and is not really writing a tale based on his beliefs of the supernatural. Thompson then goes on to say that Lind discusses Ragged Mountains as an ambiguous but simple hoax. All of the characters in the story are deceived, as is the reader of the tale if he misses the clues and takes the psychological tale as a supernatural one. Poe has written the tale as a psychological thriller, not an eerily spooky, other worldly story. Also supporting this idea of the story being a hoax is the fact that there are numerous similarities between this story and one by Charles Brockden Brown titled Edgar Huntley. The coincidences are too numerous to mention, but they are easily seen if one reads both of the story. By almost plagiarizing this tale, Thompson claims that Poe is burlesquing, even parodying, Edgar Huntley. It appears as if Thompson is trying to suggest that this is not really a serious story. • 22. The Problems Associated With Hegemonic Masculinity Essay THE PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH HEGEMONIC MASCULINITY IN SOCIETY Introduction The discourse of hegemonic masculinity was recently explored to understand the power of men in society (Connell Messerschmidt, 2005). For centuries, men have taken a dominant gender role in society. This has resulted in the oppression of women and the subordination of men who do not confine to the masculine norms (Connell Messerschmidt, 2005). This essay explores the discourse of hegemonic masculinity by explaining how it is reflected throughout society, and how it is connected to femininity and other masculinities. The aim is to criticise hegemonic masculinity by explaining the negative pressure it puts on both women and men. Masculinity Hegemony To understand the concrete basis of hegemonic masculinity more easily, the terms hegemonic and masculinity will be deconstructed. Hegemonic represents what is dominant and most powerful in a societal or political context (Merriman Webster, n.d.). Masculinity is a socially constructed term that represents behaviour that is socially acceptable for men (Connell Messerschmidt, 2005; Lynch, 2009). Therefore, hegemonic masculinity refers to a set of norms and practices that are deemed as the dominant norm for men (Connell Messerschmidt, 2005; Lynch, 2009). Although the term is tied with men, hegemonic masculinity is not tied to the biological form of men. Alternatively, it is a gendered performance which means that its associated ...
