Knee Injury Research Paper
Athletes Suffering from Knee Injuries are Opting for Cold Laser Therapy over Knee Surgery
By Juliet Peters
Aug 22, 2011
A knee injury can be a painful and debilitating setback for anyone, however for athletes experiencing
knee problems it can be a deal breaker that threatens to take them out the game. This is why many
professional athletes are opting to treat their knee injuries with cold laser therapy rather than go
through traditional knee surgery. Unfortunately, the athletes who rely on their knees the most are also
the ones who are prone to knee injuries. Knee damage is extremely common in many sports,
especially long distance running, competitive cycling, basketball, tennis, volleyball, skiing and weight
lifting. Most athletes training ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is why today s athletes are turning to cold laser therapy to treat knee injuries rather than undergo
knee surgery. They realize arthroscopic knee surgery is invasive and doesn t work most of the time,
and often leaves athletes dealing with the effects of less cartilage, and more arthritis in the knee. In
addition, knee replacements for young athletes aren t really an option because they typically should
only be performed on patients sixty five and older due to the lifespan of the prosthetic. Another reason
athletes make the decision to have cold laser therapy over knee surgery is the fact that there is a long
period of downtime after the surgery that would take them away from training for their sport. Cold
laser therapy or low level laser therapy is an approved method of treatment by the U.S Food and Drug
Administration, and it is primarily used to relieve pain and the debilitating inflammation resulting
from tendonitis, arthritis or a torn meniscus. It also helps speed up the healing process so that athletes
can get back to their sport quicker. Cold laser therapy is the number one choice among athletes to
rehabilitate knee injuries because this noninvasive treatment provides them with safe, livable solutions
for pain relief and allows them to get back to doing what they love without any

Cultural Identities and Customs
As we keep moving forward towards a new ever changing future, we equip ourselves with cultural
identities and customs so that we can relay it upon our future generations. Overtime these customs
evolve and adapt with their newer inhabitants, but there are other customs that lay stagnant, not
willing to be changed by the population itself. In certain parts of the continent of Africa, an age old
tradition of female genital mutilation is still practiced to this day. While the practice is declining in
some countries, it remains almost universal in Somalia, Guinea and Egypt (The facts about female
genital mutilation interactive, 2013). Female genital mutilation (FGM) can be viewed as barbaric in
the way the procedure is carried out. It involves partial or the whole removal of the external female
genitalia or injuries to the female genitalia or organs for non medical reasons. It disrupts the natural
functions of the girls or women s bodies due to the removal or damaging healthy and normal female
genital tissue. This procedure triggers a series of real life consequences, starting with the excruciating
pain, immediate, and long term health consequences, which includes difficulties in childbirth, also
causing dangers to the child (Health Topics: Female genital mutilation, 2014). About 140 million girls
and women worldwide are living with the consequences of FGM, which is mostly carried out on
young girls between infancy and age 15 (Tran, 2014). So the question is, Is genital

Humpback Whales Research Paper
Humpback Whales live from the equator to the subpolar latitude because that is where their food is.
The whales migrate as far as 16,000 miles which makes them one of the furthest migrating species in
the world. Humpback whales migrate on the surface of the water because they are mammals. The
humpback whales calving grounds are near offshore systems, islands, or continental shores.
Humpback whales have a diet that consists of many small fish. They eat small prey such as squid,
krill, herring, pollock, haddock, mackerel, capelin, salmon and various amounts of other fish.
Humpback whales have two of the methods of catching prey are bubble netting and filter eating.
Humpback whales eat more than a ton a day (nmfs.noaa.gov and whalefacts.org).

The Government Protecting Citizens from Corruption
Introduction The fundamental ground of our democracy is The First Amendment that gives its citizens
the promise of freedom of expression. The First Amendment may be seen as a concept of basic
freedom, which carries the idea that it, is more important to practice rather than to protect it.
Regardless if a person is liberal or conservative, Republican or Democrat, the role within the United
States government is to carry out essential responsibilities its citizens cannot perform. The United
States citizens are responsible of electing politicians into government positions to solve the problems
the country faces. One of those problems is corruption.
The power of money is at the center of political corruption and even though fraud has been in
existence for a long time, in recent years it has become a lot worse. In the past when politicians sought
to run for office each individual had to raise a few thousand dollars, businesses in the past were
smaller, manageable and the risk factors were minimal. Currently political contributions run in the
millions, making Washington a booming business. Most of the money that is raised goes to lobbyist,
campaign aids, deceiving PR operations, and pretentious grass roots groups. The American citizens
have felt the repercussion with the political and lobbying establishments who are now in control of the
public debates and the policy making process all for the benefit of the well financed special interest
groups. My paper will focus on how the

Mathematics Has Become A Part Of Our Life
ABSTRACT: Mathematics has become part of our life. Graph Theory is a branch of mathematics that
plays a major role in every field of human being. In this paper we define different matrices associated
with the Graphs along with some properties of a graph. And Rank of rank of an incidence matrix. Key
Words: Adjacency matrix, Incidence matrix, Degree matrix, Circuit matrix and Line graph.
INTRODUCTION: Incidence Matrix is one of methods of representing the graph. Let G = (V,E) be
graph whose vertices and edges are labeled as v_1,v_2,........v_n and e_1,e_2,........e_m. An incidence
matrix B associated with graph G of order n×m is defined by b_ij={█(1 if v_i is incident with e_j@0
Otherwise )─ [4] The graph and its incidence matrix are shown as follows: The incidence matrix
contains only two elements 0 and 1. Such a matrix is called a binary matrix or (0 1) matrix. For a
given any geometric representation of a graph without self loops we can easily write its corresponding
incidence matrix. On the other hand if we were given an incidence matrix B we can construct a graph
without any difficulty. The graph and its incidence matrix are simply two alternative ways of
representing the same graph. [1] PROPERTIES: Some observations of incidence matrix and it s graph.
Since every edge is incident on exactly two

What Is The Tone Of The Scarlet Letter By Hester Prynne
D.H Lawrence a British writer critiques the novel s Scarlet Letters heroine and gives his opinions on
her in a persuasive, argumentative manner in his critical essay called On The Scarlet Letter. He
believes that the heroine of the novel is not the beloved character readers believe she is. Using literary
techniques like an ironclad tone, abrupt syntax and biblical allusions Lawrence convince s people that
the beloved American heroine Hester Prynne is truly a conniving adulteress who thrives off of stealing
a man s purity and possibly his soul.
The demanding, ironclad, persuasive tone Lawrence uses throughout his work makes the reader notice
his strong opinion.. He writes that the Scarlet Letter is perhaps the most colossal satire ever ... Show

Harsh and abrupt syntax shoots literary bullets at Hester Prynne s character and rips holes into it that
has not been seen before and Nathaniel Hawthorne in Lawrence s assessment of the Scarlet Letter.
Bullets get his point across accurately and properly. The sentences are written in a bullet point format
which launches his opinions with rigor. Lawrence s pinpointed syntax with line by line criticism
leaves no room for the reader to ponder what he is saying. This makes the writer and the audience
connect and believe what that Hester is longer a victim but, the antagonist. What Lawrence is saying
through his exact and precise structure comes through seamlessly to the audience without a doubt.
Consequently, he uses short and to the point sentences like A.The Scarlet Letter. Adulteress! The great
Alpha. Alpha! Alpha! Adulteress! to get his points across and tear apart Hester Prynne (Lawrence).
Lawrence wants his audience to see that Hester herself is the Scarlet Letter and the Scarlet Letter is
also Hester. The abrupt, harsh, and disruptive syntax is used to persuade the audience into seeing the
truth behind the curtain that is Hester Prynne while, she is being ripped from limb to limb with the
bullets Lawrence is throwing . He does his best to make his sentences spew at the reader in an
organized pattern that allows his thoughts to be conveyed exactly the way he wants.

If a person constantly eats too little proteins they can become susceptible to disease, it can cause a
person to develop anemia, dry skin can develop and in women their bones can become brittle. If a
person does not have enough carbohydrates in their diet they can develop malnutrition which is also
called lack of calories. If a person does not have enough lipids in their diet it can also cause serious
health risks. Fat provides nutrients for the body and supports the body s basic function. Lack of this
macronutrient can cause problems with a person s immune system, skin and vision. My fiber intake
does not meet the requirements of the recommendation for me as calculated in the iProfile website

intake was only 44g. My three day intake of food did not meet the minimum number of servings of
foods from each fiber containing groups. Both fruits and vegetables fell short of the recommended
intake that was required of me. The foods that provided the most fiber in my days meals were salad,
pizza, and corn flakes. The foods that provided the least amount of fiber were eggs. Trends in my food
choice that may affect my fiber intake would be the places I choose to eat or simply eating out.

My Personal Goals Essay
As a child and even as a teenager one tends to make dreams and set goals for life. On occasion these
goals are far stretched and sometimes even fairy tale like, we tend to see life through a rose colored
glass, not taking into account the many sidetracks life throws our way. At that stage in life our goals
tend to be less focused and somewhat unreachable. However, the process of growing up, or maturing,
tends organized and center our goals, we learn to make compromises and set goals for our goals.
There are different types of goals, short term and long term. I have learned to separate the many goals
I have into three main categories: family, professional and personal.
First, my family goals include how I see myself and how I see my ... Show more content on

I have planned monthly individual date nights with my children, so that they can have my undivided
attention for a certain period of time.
The second family short term goal takes into account my marriage. In order to raise happy and healthy
children, a happy and healthy relationship with one s spouse is paramount. In order to achieve this
goal my husband and I have decided to also dedicate more time for the two of us. For the next year we
have made an agreement to take at least one vacation together, so that we may increase the bond that
brought us together. We have also decided that for the next three year we will spend Holidays as a
family so that we may create our own family traditions, we will do whatever is in our power to spend
Holidays together, that includes not working or making other plans with the rest of our immediate
families.
On many occasions my personal goals have come before my professional aspirations. A career in the
medical field has always been something I have looked forward to. As a child I wanted and dreamed
of being a doctor, however due to the choices I made in life and the priorities that I had not thought of,
I have come to realize that my childhood dream may not come true. Yet, I was able to compromise and
make short and long term goals that will lead me into a career in the medical field. My long term goal
is to enter the medical field world and be a respected contributor to it. I want to be able to help others
in the time of need. In

The Success Of The Moon Landing
The 1969 Apollo 11 mission, which was the first landing on the moon. This mission can be seen as a
success and/or a failure. Although not all agree it was a success due to the lives lost, it was an
accomplishment for mankind, because of the success of the actual moon landing. Due to the high
attraction of the moon landing, there were many articles on the 1969 Apollo 11 mission. Many of
these texts were very efficient in its appeals and in achieving its purpose.
In the first article, Man Takes the First Steps on the Moon, the speaker is the Times of London and
some mentioned are; Neil Armstrong, President Nixon, President Saragat of Italy, and other leaders.
The 1969 Apollo 11 mission was a success and keeping everyone on their toes. The primary audience
for this text was those who are interested in the moon landing. Its appeals to pathos were effective due
to the emotional and excitement of the moon landing. For example, ... our deep wish for a safe return
at the end of what has been a most historic scientific achievement in the history of man. This explains
how much of a breakthrough the moon landing was causing emotions of what else mankind can do.
Following this would be the appeal to ethos, That s one small step for man but one giant leap for
mankind. Having these appeals together make the impact of the accomplishment of mankind even
more of an excitement.
Following this great accomplished, a tragedy could have come. During a time of tragedy, we search

Management Theories In Classroom Management
2.4 Behaviour management theories While classroom management theory is constantly evolving.
There are many types of behaviour management and discipline strategies for the classroom. Some of
the theories are directly applicable and some theories can use with our own personal mix.
Understanding these theories can help educators define their own classroom management methods and
make decisions about how to best approach interactions with students (Hussung, 2016). 2.4.1 The
Assertive Discipline Model This theory, proposed by Lee Canter (1976), suggests that students
positive behaviours should be recognized and encouraged. As per his theory, teachers should inform
students about expectations they have as well as rules they have set. Once they inform students, they
will closely monitor who follow these guidelines. According to his theory, teachers should be
entrusted with the right to teach without any intervention, while students should learn without any
interruption (Edu excellence organisation, 2016). Most important thing in this model is teacher always
reinforced positive more than negative. However, if the student violates the rules persistently, then he
or she is punished. This include five steps namely; warning the student, giving 10 minute time out in
isolation, giving the student a 15 minute time out in isolation, calling the student s parents and finally,
sending the student to the principal s office. However, this approach is not practicable for the
teenagers. Because

Comparison Essay Comparing Beowulf And Superman
Many comics and epic poems tell of times that people need heroes. In Beowulf and the Superman
comics both hero s fill essential needs within their respective societies. In the following paragraphs, I
will be speaking on the gifts each hero has to handle enemies, their motives and what they mean to
their societies and the effects they have on them. First, both heroes have great gifts that they use in
their respective stories. Beowulf has superior strength to all men and most monsters and superhuman
endurance shown by actions such as surviving underwater for hours and still being able to fight.
Beowulf s powers fits the type of world he lives in with there being monsters not capable of
destroying the planet or kingdoms but rather destroying small villages. Beowulf with his
aforementioned powers managed to kill Grendel and the dragon but also died in the process to the
poison of the dragon. Superman has superhuman strength, speed, endurance, can fly, see through
walls, shoot lasers from his eyes, freeze foes with his breath and many more abilities.Superman s
powers fits his world due to having many enemies who can destroy the planet along with major cities.

Beowulf s motives are not too clear but he acts based on the needs of people. This is demonstrated in
his decisions to fight Grendel and the dragon especially when he chose to fight Grendel who was a
threat to a foreign nation. Superman motives though are more cut and dry being to protect the weak
and most importantly him vowing to not kill. The decision not to kill is key to his character because he
could of killed all of his enemies but due to his chose many of his enemies return and he continues to
fight them and not kill them. If Superman was to kill his foes there would be less threats but he would
no longer be Superman who is a sign of good and hope for

African American Art Of African Americans In The 19th Century
African Americans always had a great influence in the United States throughout time from the
beginning of slavery. African Americans, since the start of slavery, always expressed themselves
artistically, where it was through music or art. From making patchwork quilts, slaves used their artistic
expression to help conduct the Underground Railroad and escape slavery. To be defined as illiterate
savages African Americas proved many wrong with their exceptional skills presented in many
different styles of artwork. From slavery throughout the 19th century, there were a great number of
African Americans whom contributed to the United States through artistic expression, with creating
artwork that would either be judged or discredited. For example, Robert S. Duncanson, Edward M.
Bannister, Mary Edmonia Lewis, and Henry Ossawa Tanner were all 19th century African American
artists who each faced their own individual challenges to achieve acclaim as artists.
Many African American artists of the 19th century were very talented, prominent and successful
during their careers. Through their artwork and artistic style some artist followed very similar but yet
very different techniques during their time. For example, looking at the artworks of Robert Duncanson
and Edward Bannister, the two shared the same interest in their artistic style and subject matter while
also remaining to stay original. Both, Robert Duncanson and Edward Bannister, were well known
landscape artist able to capture

Simple Random Sampling
3.1 INTRODUCTION
Everyone mentions simple random sampling, but few use this method for population based surveys.
Rapid surveys are no exception, since they too use a more complex sampling scheme. So why should
we be concerned with simple random sampling? The main reason is to learn the theory of sampling.
Simple random sampling is the basic selection process of sampling and is easiest to understand. If
everyone in a population could be included in a survey, the analysis featured in this book would be
very simple. The average value for equal interval and binomial variables, respectively, could easily be

Three of the nine addicts are now infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). To be
derived are the proportion who are HIV infected (a binomial variable), the mean number of
intravenous injections (IV) and shared IV injections during the past two weeks (both equal interval
variables), and the proportion of total IV injections that were shared with other addicts. This latter
proportion is a ratio of two variables and, as you will learn, is termed a ratio estimator. Figure 3 3 The
total population of nine drug addicts is seen in Figure 3 3. Names of the nine male addicts are listed
below each figure. The three who are infected with HIV are shown as cross hatched figures. Each has
intravenously injected a narcotic drug eight or more times during the past two weeks. The number of
injections is shown in the white box at the midpoint of each addict. With one exception, some of the
intravenous injections were shared with other addicts; the exact number is shown in Figure 3 3 as a
white number in a black circle. Our intention is to sample three addicts from the population of nine,
assuming that the entire population cannot be studied. To provide an unbiased view of the population,

My favorite place to be is on Bayou Bartholomew. I live on Bayou Bartholomew in Sterlington,
Louisiana. It used to be part of the running bayou. The part that I live on was cut off with levees years

Also, just looking at it, the channel in the middle is very dark compared to the shallow water by the
bank. One of my favorite places on the bayou is The Island. It is right by my house. It is a large cluster
of majestic cypress trees. If I sit quietly enough in the boat and don t move, I can hear frogs croaking
and mosquitoes buzzing. Most of the time a turtle, bass, gar, alligator, and/or beaver will splash. The
splashes catch me off guard and scare me sometimes. Right now, there is mill foil inside the island.

A World Without Work By Derek Thompson
Every day, human beings work. To work is to be engaged in physical or mental activity in order to
achieve a purpose or result. (New Oxford American Dictionary) Thus, some people work by holding
full time jobs where they perform a task in order to get payed, while others exert their energy crafting
or caring for others, and yet others devote themselves to learning. Because work is such an integral
part of the American culture, it is hard to imagine life without it. However, this is exactly what Derek
Thompson does in the article, A World Without Work. In this piece, Thompson explores what might
happen if human work is replaced by technology. This essay challenges modern society s view that the
sole purpose of work is to earn money and boost self esteem, instead asserting that it also plays an
important role in holding together a community. Therefore, Thompson argues, the removal of it would
have many negative impacts on American society. While A World Without Work does make some
strong points about the harms of the end of work, the author fails to fully persuade the audience
because he does not clearly define his key terms or provide concrete evidence to support either his
main point or his proposed solution to the problem. In A World Without Work, Derek Thompson
argues that in the near future, technology will remove the need for the American workforce, thus
causing a major problem in our social dynamic and necessitating government intervention. At the

BEATRICE VICTORIE COOK was born in Point La Nim on the 20th of March 1904 and baptised
privately according to Catholic rites on the 15th of May 1905. The French form of her name is used

Beatrice spent her childhood and early adulthood at the family farm in Point La Nim. She was there in

Catch-22 Literary Analysis
War, it stripes people of their sanity and ethics, still it is considered a catalyst for change. In the novel
Catch 22 by Joseph Heller it tells the story of a twenty eight year old bombardier stationed in world
war two, set in a fictional island, Pianosa, somewhere in Italy. There are many opinions on war, there
are pacifists, those who are willing to fight, and those who refuse to be involved even though it is very
much needed. Although war may be necessary for self defense, it is by no means virtuous and has in
fact affected the mental health of many like Yossarion. War is many things; malevolent, economically
challenging, and controversial, but nevertheless it is necessary. In spite of the fact that Joseph Heller
depicts the characters similar to Colonel Cathcart as an opposing factor, they do notice the importance
of their role in the war, unlike Yossarion. Consequently, if the veterans don t acknowledge their
importance then our progress as a nation will fail to proceed, our economic gain will suffer, over
population will occur (worse than it already is), and our territory and freedom will be purloined, I m
not running away from my responsibilities. I m running to them. There s nothing negative about
running away to save my life. (Joseph Heller, Catch 22) War occurs so we can have our freedom, we
cannot just lie around idly and expect to reap the benefits. As a result, the government chooses eligible
citizens to bravely fight for their country and when they

The Science Fiction Genre And Genre Essay
The science fiction film genre has been around almost as long as movies have, but like the cinema it is
still a fairly young art form. This genre came into existence shortly after the invention of the movie
camera in 1888 and has endured for over one hundred years. Science fiction is adaptive; it changes
with the times and this trend can be seen in its incorporation of other genres, cultural history and
technology. This essay will attempt to define the genre, chronicle the history and evolution, and
explore its relation to technology. This is in general and in the cinema.
When discussing the science fiction film genre a problem occurs. The distinction between science
fiction and other genres is not always clear cut. Many movies span between the science fiction genre
and other genres. Movies such as The Ring (2002) or the Alien series (1979, 1986, 1992, 1997)
illustrate how the distinction between science fiction and horror films can be obscure. (Telotte 46)
Some comedies, such as Mars Attacks (1996) and Back to the Future (1985), are very much science
fiction. (Mitchell 133) In fact there is an example of a science fiction film fitting into almost any
genre. Starship Troopers (1997) parallels a war film and Outland (1981) resembles a western in many
respects. (Telotte 45)
The characteristics that define the science fiction genre can be difficult to pin down. A genre such as
the western has easily identifiable characteristics such as cowboys, guns, the wild west, and bad

St. Louis Catholic School
When driving past the modest copper bricked building topped with a bulky black roof, one might only
see it as just a school for children; however, there is so much more to it than what meets the eye. The
large black cross that clings to the front entrance wall suggests to its visitants the school s religious
affiliation which is further evidenced by the name St. Louis in slate black lettering on the wall parallel
to it. St. Louis Catholic School was established in 1964 in Princeton, Illinois as a pre school through
eighth grade elementary school and is still today. It remains the only Catholic elementary school in
Bureau Country, making it unique to the area. Although the class sizes tend to be small with regards to
the quantity of students, the many experiences that the school provides including the encouragement
of creativity, providing a friendly and comfortable classroom environment and the stress on the
formation of a loving community live with the students for the majority of their lives. St. Louis, as a
school, provides children with the opportunity to be as imaginative as they can possibly be. This
imaginative spirit is observed by the effulgently colorful pictures created by the fictive minds of the
students, starring center stage on the windows that wrapped themselves tightly around the school like
a bow on a package. Next to the building lies a lengthy plot of land. On it resides a flamboyantly
colored playground set which lures adventurous children in to

Abstract Colorimetric assay is a process of determining a concentration of a solution based on
absorbance of light. The purpose of this lab is to determine if the Bradford assay is an accurate way to
determine an unknown concentration of two samples of protein. The Bradford assay is done by
measuring wavelength of light passing through a cuvette filled with Bradford dye and concentrations
of PBS and proteins. After the cuvettes are mixed they are placed into a spectrophotometer to measure
wavelength. The wavelength given will be used to plot a standard curve based on concentration (x
axis) and wavelength (y axis). The standard curve is then used to measure an educated guess on the
concentrations of unknown protein concentrations. We hypothesized that if we use the Bradford assay
and colorimetric spectrophotometry we can determine an accurate concentration of two unknown
concentrations of proteins. The results of this lab failed to reject our hypothesis based on accurate
measurements of protein concentrations. The standard curves are drawn with a linear increasing slope.
The Bradford assay is an accurate way to demine the concentration of an unknown concentration.

Brazilian Colonial Development Of Brazil
History
Most native tribes who were living in Brazil in the 1500 s thought they were descendants from the
first wave of migrants from North Asia. At the time of European discovery, the territory of current day
Brazil had as many as 2,000 nations and tribes, an estimated total population of nearly 3,000,000
Amerindians. ( Cia world factbook , 2016). It was discovered by a linguistic survey that there were
188 indigenous languages with 155,000 speakers around 9000 BC. Initially Portugal had little interest
in Brazil, mainly because of high profits gained through commerce with Indochina. After 1530, the
Portuguese Crown devised the Hereditary Captaincies system to effectively occupy its new colony,
and later took direct control of the failed captaincies . ( Cia world fact book , 2016). Sugar was the
most important Brazilian Colonial product until the early 18th century. Brazilian sugar at the time was
stated as being high in quality, in comparison to those of other nations. However, when other countries
started to produce and offer sugar at a lower price, the industry in Brazil faced a major crisis.
During the 18th century, an independent explorer named Bandeirante, discovered gold and diamond in
the state of Minas Gerais. Unfortunately, gold production declined towards the 18th century, starting a
period of relative stagnation of the Brazilian hinterland. The man power of Amerindians and African
slaves were greatly exploited in Brazil s colonial economy. ( Cia world

From the formation of these slums, the government never paid much attention to the welfare of these
residents. The members of these favelas began to work together to provide medical care, methods of
transportation and other necessities to one another. They lived in silence in the first half of the
twentieth century until they began to attract political attention near the second half of the twentieth
century. Due to the favelas being located near Rio s most affluent neighborhoods, the Brazilian
government attempted to eradicate the favelas. However, they failed to address the root causes of Rio
s poverty stricken areas and the favela population maintained their expansion unwaveringly through
the 1950 s, 60 s and 70 s. The government lost hope in the evacuation of the favelas and abandoned
their endeavor in the late 1970s.
In the 1980s, as the Brazilian government began to abandon military rule and establish democracy,
Brazil became the core of the international trade of illegal drugs. The vast change in Brazil s market
due to drugs is elucidated in this quotation, By 1985, not only had Rio de Janeiro become the country
s most important export node for drugs from the Andean regions to the United States and Europe, it
had developed a sizeable local consumer market for cocaine that had been virtually non existent in
prior years. The drug merchandise dominated by the numerous hoods in the favelas was also portrayed

Speech On Healthy Eating Habits
If you actually write down what you are eating on a daily basis, you probably will drop your jaw in
horror. We never think to add up the little snack size candy bar here and the 2 cookies to actually see
the major impact it is having on our diets. The best way to achieve a healthy lifestyle, as far as our
diets go, is eating more fruits and vegetables. We all know it, so why do we head for the potato chips
isle in the grocery store instead of the produce section? Basically it comes down to this. Junk foods
trigger our appetite and leave us longing for more. Ever wonder why eating one little innocent Cheez

#3: Make A Compromise If you are following the American Diet, your palette now craves high salt
and high sugar foods. Quitting is almost never successful when it is done cold turkey. People think
they need to stop all the bad stuff all at once and then 3 days later they burn out and revert to bad
habits. Being healthy is not about missing out on the foods you love. If you want pizza, eat a slice with
a bowl of fruit salad instead of french fries. If you want Cheeze Its, eat a handful with a handful of
grapes instead of half the cheez It box. Ease into it and slowly change your eating habits for the better.

The Effects Of Eugenic Sterilization
Eugenics Sterilization, developed by an eminent scientist, Francis Galton, is the science of improving
the qualities of the human species or a human population by controlling breeding to increase the
occurrence of desirable heritable characteristic traits and decrease the occurrence of undesirable
characteristic traits or genetical defects (Bergman, 2000). Eugenic sterilization refers to the
involuntary sterilization of certain categories of individuals without their need for consent by those
subjected to the procedure (Pozgar, 2012, p. 411). Eugenic Sterilization has ruined thousands of lives
and impacted individual in multiple ways.
Individuals classified as mentally deficient, feeble minded, epileptic, promiscuous, sexual deviants, or
persons classified as habitual criminals were mainly targeted (Pozgar, 2012, p. 411). Eugenicists
argued degenerate traits tainted society through the reproduction of the lowest class and sterilization
was to keep the handicapped from perpetuating themselves (Kaelber, 2014). In addition, eugenicists
also argued that feeble minded individuals were believed to be financial burdens to society by
overcrowding prisons, hospitals and living off welfare (Kaelber, 2014). Eugenic Sterilization was seen
as a way to prevent the spending of tax dollars on the feeble minded (Kaelber, 2014). These arguments
allowed Eugenics to become an acceptable practice. Advocates believed that getting rid of the feeble
minded and mentally deficient would decrease the undesirable characteristic traits within the human
gene pool and ultimately improve the human population (Kaelber, 2014). The very first eugenic
sterilization law was passed in 1919 but it was never put to use (Kaelber, 2014). Many worried that the
law was unconstitutional and there the State feared putting it into practice (Kaelber, 2014). The
landmark 1927 United States Supreme Court case of Buck Vs. Bell served as a catalyst for many
eugenic sterilization programs across the Country (Scott, 2015). In 1929, The North Carolina General
Assembly passed new sterilization laws (Kaelber, 2014). It stated that the governing body or the
responsible head of any penal or charitable institution supported wholly or in part by the State

Commentary of Adam LiptakÂŽs Article Regarding Gay Marriage...
Adam Liptak, a journalist for the New York Times, explained in Utah, in Opposing Gay Marriage,
Find Three Arguments are Better than One why a heterosexual relationship is better for raising
children in. The Utah law that would have allowed same sex couples to marry was recently shot down.
Liptak goes on to explain why he agrees with the bill not being passed. The article states that this was
important in holding up and encouraging man woman unions as the preferred arrangement in which to
raise children (Liptak, 2014, para. 12). This discrimination towards same sex couples wanting to raise
children is appalling. Homosexual couples should have the right to raise children just as heterosexual
couples do. Liptak argued his point by raising his concern for responsible procreation within society.
He suggested that responsible procreation was between a man and woman inside of marriage.
However, denying the right to marry and adopt to same sex couples the government is helping to
increase the norm of sex and child raising outside of marriage. A lot of work and thought must go into
the adoption of or alternative conception of a child. These processes are time consuming and the
couple must put much thought and effort into having and raising a child before acquiring one through
adoption, foster care, or using alternative conception methods. Children raised in a loving, nurturing
environment have the largest advantage no matter the sexual orientation of the couple. According

Problems Caused By Overpopulation Is The Rise Of A Place...
Problems Caused by Overpopulation in Cities
Overpopulation is The condition of a place populated with excessively large numbers . It is considered
a problem in many senses, since it causes a number of issues for various different reasons.
One major issue caused by overpopulation is the rise of unemployment. This is when people actively
seeking employment or just people that are able to work remain unemployed. Overpopulation causes
this because the amount of jobs available would be the same as before the city became overpopulated,
meaning that there wouldn t be enough jobs for the amount of people needing one. With more
unemployed people come many obstacles and problems, not only for the people this affects, but for
the whole economy and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would cause many companies to have lost business. Furthermore, this could even result in more
unemployment, because the companies may be forced to make cutbacks of their own within their staff
or branches (if it was a shop).
From all this evidence, we can see that unemployment is a major issue, and affects many people. A
large amount of unemployed people are in that condition due to overpopulation, proving that
overpopulation is the cause of a significant problem.
A second problem caused by overpopulation is the degradation of the environment. With oil, water
and natural gases being overused, it starts having severe effects on the environment. There are many
negative consequences that we may have to face related to this, the cause of them being
overpopulation.
There are three main types of environmental degradation. The first type is air. Air pollution is one of
the bigger issues within this category. Not only does it damage the air, it is also a hazard to human and
animal health. Particles from the pollution can easily lodge themselves into lungs, and cause many
problems in the body.
Another type of environmental degradation of air is the depletion of the ozone layer. If the ozone layer
is damaged, lots of ultra violet rays from the sun will be able to reach the Earth s surface. Excessive
amounts of ultra violet radiation could cause numerous problems for human health including skin and
eyesight

Vincent Van Gogh Research Papers
Vincent Van Gogh was a post impressionist painter, born in the Netherlands on March 30, 1853. He
died on July 29, 1890, in France at the age of 37. Sadly, Vincent was poor and virtually unknown his
entire life. Currently his work is known for its beauty, emotion, and color, and although he tried many
times never sold a single painting. Van Gogh struggled with mental illness, despite this, his work
highly influenced 20th century art and still wildly popular today. Van Gogh s passion for art likely
began as a child. His mother, Anna Cornelio Carbentus, was an emotional artist, with a love of nature,
drawing and watercolors. As a child Van Gogh was a mildly sad child. At ag 15, his family was having
financially issues, and was forced to leave school to work. He got a job working for his Uncle
Cornelis, at and art dealership, Goupil Cie. Van Gogh, by this point, was already fluent in French,
German, and English, and of course Dutch. In June of 1873, Van Gogh was transferred to the Groupil
Gallery in London. When he did, he fell in love with the English culture. He enjoyed reading Charles

Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice Jane Austen s characters always undergo an event that
morally changes their being. In Sense and Sensibility this moral change is obvious in Elinor and

in them which prevented their giving much pleasure to her sister ; (Austen, p74). Marianne was
behaving like a self centered, selfish teenager. Instead of being a gracious guest in Mrs. Jennings
home, she was ;anxiously listening to the sound of every carriage (Austen, p74) and not giving any
attention to the socially acceptable behavior that was expected of her. Colonel Brandon is a character
that stands on the peripheral of the story while Willoughby breaks the heart of his ward and Marianne.
Colonel Brandon had a very high regard for Marianne, but Marianne had no interest in an old man.
At a party shortly after their arrival to London, Marianne

The Baroque Style Of The 19th Century
Social: In 17th century large numbers of artists traveled to Rome to develop themselves, to work and
study and Nicolas Poussin born in French spend significant time I Rome as well. Rome attracted the
young artists not only with the many regulations that being extended by the Church but with the
opportunity to learn from the past masters I art. Most of the 17th century was dominated by the
baroque style, whose expressive power was well appropriate to the needs of the Counter Reformation
Church for affecting images. The baroque style develop around 1600 in Rome before spreading across
Europe. It was encouraged and influenced and by the Catholic Church, which used it to propaganda
religious themes, war images, and aristocrats who appreciated the high spirits. The art of the time
focused on showing natural images, intense emotions exaggerated through the play of light and
shadow. Baroque style had a purpose to glorifying the church and monarchy by dramatic images and
scenes (Seventeenth Century Art, par. 1)
Economic: In 17th century new concepts in banking were in play allowing for an increase in the
monetary supply. Advances in agriculture meant more grain, so even the poorest had at the very least
bread. Because of developing the trade system the Italian States were very rich, it was an age of
expansion in commerce and industry. Baroque style developed in that era had the purpose to show the
power and the greatness of the Church and Monarchs standing behind it. Baroque

THIS CASE DEALS WITH ONE OF THE CLASSIC MANAGERIAL DECISIONS MAKE

MAKE/BUY PROBLEM TO ILLUSTRATE THE APPLICABILITY OF RELEVANT COST
ANALYSIS IN THINKING ABOUT SUCH DECISIONS. This case is rich enough to support a fully
articulated relevant cost analysis. It also will support a strategic analysis with a little more digging by
the students. It is a great case to illustrate different cost analysis frameworks for a classic management

Usc Core Statement On Diversity
The University of Southern California claims that its mission is to demonstrate an enduring
commitment to diversity of thought, experience, and people . USC constitutes a significant portion of
Los Angeles s population and it is constantly expanding its reach on the surrounding area. In recent
months, USC held its grand opening of University Village, UV, another massive addition to the
campus. President Max Nikias claims that this construction will reinvigorate the neglected
neighborhood, however this space is itself a contradiction to USC s core statement on diversity
because of its socioeconomic and cultural exclusivity. The university wiped out the international food
court which stood before UV existed and replaced it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Naturally, a mall with eclectic cultural restaurants and stores will attract a wide array of people, but
now, while walking around UV, the only people that students will encounter are other USC students.
This is how the removal of the international food court further reduces diversity in the surrounding
area. Additionally, small business owners were largely responsible for the operation of the
establishments at the international food court. Members of the community staffed the restaurants, and
more often than not, those employees were selling food from their own diverse culture. Now that USC
students on work study are responsible for staffing most of the restaurants in the village, another piece
of cultural diversity has been lost. Additionally, revenue at these establishments can no longer enrich
the lives of community members, but instead will go straight to the corporate chain restaurants that
exist now. In sweeping out the authentic, one of a kind small businesses of the food court, USC
showed little regard for supporting cultural diversity. Not only does this wipeout of various small
businesses tend to attract a less diverse customer base, but the higher prices also reduce the

Automotive Ethics Of The Automotive Industry Essay
Automotive ethics is a subject that is often over looked. Not many people look at what is ethical in the
automotive industry, most people are generally happy if they can get a good deal on a car. However,
automotive ethics has an affect on how automobiles are made, what rules the government puts on
them, and their danger on the environment. Before the engine was invented, life revolved around a
much more complicated system of transportation. Much advancement in technology has been made to
make the common lifestyle today much easier, For example, cellular telephones and onboard
navigation systems (gps) in automobiles. Cellular telephones and navigation systems (gps) have
become an everyday item, but nobody looks at the dangers that can have while operating a motor
vehicle. Before the invention of the modern day engine, lifestyles were completely different. Letters
were sent by horse in wagons, people traveled by horses and other such animals, often taking an entire
day to go twenty miles. The first fuel engine was not invented until 1923. It only took one year before
this engine was put into automobiles, making the lives of the public much easier. The invention of the
engine not only made it possible to travel by road, but also by water and air. Mail, letters and more
were no longer delivered by horses and families were able to travel from one place to another in less
than a day. However, the affects of the modern day engine can be seen all over the world. For

A Short Note On The Giant Tower Builder
Nimrod the Giant Tower Builder When we think of typology in the Old testament, we think of types of
Christ. The sacrifice of the Passover lamb is a classic example. Passages in the New Testament (see 1
Cor. 5:7; John 1:29; 1 Peter 1:19) verify typology as a legitimate form of biblical interpretation. But
what about passages in the Old Testament that seem to clearly indicate a Christ type that are not
officially sanctioned by the New Testament writers? There are many types of Christ not specifically
mentioned in the New Testament that are clearly types of Christ. Joseph is a classic example. Any
internet search of Joseph/typology will give plenteous prolepses of Christ. The question arises then,
what of Antichrist types? Judas, Antiochus Epiphanes, Nimrod and King Herod and are some of many
examples. In the book of Esther, we have the reckless and violent Haman, a type of Antichrist in direct
conflict and bitter envy against Mordecai, a type of Christ. In this chapter, the focus is on Nimrod. He
is: A.) One of the clearer examples of Antichrist typology and B.) Clearly a type of Trump as well. In
Genesis chapter 10, it says that Nimrod became a mighty one as well as a mighty hunter before the
Lord. The ancient rabbis tell us that this statement means that Nimrod went out from the presence of
the Lord, in the sense that he turned his back upon God and His truth, and became a hunter of souls .
Seeking to turn multitudes of men away from God and unto himself. (The

William T. Sherman Essay
William T. Sherman SHERMAN, William Tecumseh (1820 91). Ranked second only to General
Ulysses S. Grant as the greatest Northern commander in the American Civil War, Gen. William
Tecumseh Sherman was a master of modern warfare. Like Grant, Sherman was born in Ohio when it
was a frontier state. He was named Tecumseh for the Shawnee Indian chief who had terrorized that
region a few years earlier. Sherman was born on Feb. 8, 1820, in Lancaster, Ohio. His father died
when he was 9 years old. Most of the 11 children in the family were distributed among the relatives
and friends. He was adopted by Thomas Ewing. After attending an academy at Lancaster, Sherman
entered West Point. During the Mexican War he saw service in California. In 1853 ... Show more

Serious mistakes had been made at the battle of Shiloh, and the commander, Grant, had to take a lot of
criticism. Grant wanted to withdraw from the army, but Sherman persuaded him to stay. In the
Vicksburg campaign Sherman gave valuable aid to Grant. At its successful conclusion he generously
gave all the credit to his superior officer. When Grant, as a result of this campaign, was made
commander of the armies of the United States, Sherman was appointed to fill Grant s position as
commander in the West. It was in this position that he carried on the campaign on which his fame
rests. On May 6, 1864, he left Chattanooga, Tenn., for Atlanta, Ga. It took him four months to cover
the 135 miles (215 kilometers) between the two places, for in this campaign he met a person worthy of
his steel in Gen. Joseph E. Johnston, the Confederate commander. Atlanta was reached on September
2. After clearing the city of its civil population and resting his men, Sherman started on his famous
march of 400 miles (645 kilometers) quot;from Atlanta to the sea. quot; For 32 days no news of him
reached the North. He had cut himself off from his base of supplies, and his men lived on what they
could get from the country through which they passed. They covered a path 60 miles (95 kilometers)
wide in their march, and in that path everything that they could not use but that might prove of use to
the enemy was ruthlessly destroyed. In view of this

  • 2. Knee Injury Research Paper Athletes Suffering from Knee Injuries are Opting for Cold Laser Therapy over Knee Surgery By Juliet Peters Aug 22, 2011 A knee injury can be a painful and debilitating setback for anyone, however for athletes experiencing knee problems it can be a deal breaker that threatens to take them out the game. This is why many professional athletes are opting to treat their knee injuries with cold laser therapy rather than go through traditional knee surgery. Unfortunately, the athletes who rely on their knees the most are also the ones who are prone to knee injuries. Knee damage is extremely common in many sports, especially long distance running, competitive cycling, basketball, tennis, volleyball, skiing and weight lifting. Most athletes training ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is why today s athletes are turning to cold laser therapy to treat knee injuries rather than undergo knee surgery. They realize arthroscopic knee surgery is invasive and doesn t work most of the time, and often leaves athletes dealing with the effects of less cartilage, and more arthritis in the knee. In addition, knee replacements for young athletes aren t really an option because they typically should only be performed on patients sixty five and older due to the lifespan of the prosthetic. Another reason athletes make the decision to have cold laser therapy over knee surgery is the fact that there is a long period of downtime after the surgery that would take them away from training for their sport. Cold laser therapy or low level laser therapy is an approved method of treatment by the U.S Food and Drug Administration, and it is primarily used to relieve pain and the debilitating inflammation resulting from tendonitis, arthritis or a torn meniscus. It also helps speed up the healing process so that athletes can get back to their sport quicker. Cold laser therapy is the number one choice among athletes to rehabilitate knee injuries because this noninvasive treatment provides them with safe, livable solutions for pain relief and allows them to get back to doing what they love without any ... Cultural Identities and Customs As we keep moving forward towards a new ever changing future, we equip ourselves with cultural identities and customs so that we can relay it upon our future generations. Overtime these customs evolve and adapt with their newer inhabitants, but there are other customs that lay stagnant, not willing to be changed by the population itself. In certain parts of the continent of Africa, an age old tradition of female genital mutilation is still practiced to this day. While the practice is declining in some countries, it remains almost universal in Somalia, Guinea and Egypt (The facts about female genital mutilation interactive, 2013). Female genital mutilation (FGM) can be viewed as barbaric in the way the procedure is carried out. It involves partial or the whole removal of the external female genitalia or injuries to the female genitalia or organs for non medical reasons. It disrupts the natural functions of the girls or women s bodies due to the removal or damaging healthy and normal female genital tissue. This procedure triggers a series of real life consequences, starting with the excruciating pain, immediate, and long term health consequences, which includes difficulties in childbirth, also causing dangers to the child (Health Topics: Female genital mutilation, 2014). About 140 million girls and women worldwide are living with the consequences of FGM, which is mostly carried out on young girls between infancy and age 15 (Tran, 2014). So the question is, Is genital ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Government Protecting Citizens from Corruption Introduction The fundamental ground of our democracy is The First Amendment that gives its citizens the promise of freedom of expression. The First Amendment may be seen as a concept of basic freedom, which carries the idea that it, is more important to practice rather than to protect it. Regardless if a person is liberal or conservative, Republican or Democrat, the role within the United States government is to carry out essential responsibilities its citizens cannot perform. The United States citizens are responsible of electing politicians into government positions to solve the problems the country faces. One of those problems is corruption. The power of money is at the center of political corruption and even though fraud has been in existence for a long time, in recent years it has become a lot worse. In the past when politicians sought to run for office each individual had to raise a few thousand dollars, businesses in the past were smaller, manageable and the risk factors were minimal. Currently political contributions run in the millions, making Washington a booming business. Most of the money that is raised goes to lobbyist, campaign aids, deceiving PR operations, and pretentious grass roots groups. The American citizens have felt the repercussion with the political and lobbying establishments who are now in control of the public debates and the policy making process all for the benefit of the well financed special interest groups. Key Words: Adjacency matrix, Incidence matrix, Degree matrix, Circuit matrix and Line graph. INTRODUCTION: Incidence Matrix is one of methods of representing the graph. Let G = (V,E) be graph whose vertices and edges are labeled as v_1,v_2,........v_n and e_1,e_2,........e_m. An incidence matrix B associated with graph G of order n×m is defined by b_ij={█(1 if v_i is incident with e_j@0 Otherwise )─ [4] The graph and its incidence matrix are shown as follows: The incidence matrix contains only two elements 0 and 1. Such a matrix is called a binary matrix or (0 1) matrix. For a given any geometric representation of a graph without self loops we can easily write its corresponding incidence matrix. On the other hand if we were given an incidence matrix B we can construct a graph without any difficulty. The graph and its incidence matrix are simply two alternative ways of representing the same graph. [1] PROPERTIES: Some observations of incidence matrix and it s graph. • 7. What Is The Tone Of The Scarlet Letter By Hester Prynne D.H Lawrence a British writer critiques the novel s Scarlet Letters heroine and gives his opinions on her in a persuasive, argumentative manner in his critical essay called On The Scarlet Letter. He believes that the heroine of the novel is not the beloved character readers believe she is. Using literary techniques like an ironclad tone, abrupt syntax and biblical allusions Lawrence convince s people that the beloved American heroine Hester Prynne is truly a conniving adulteress who thrives off of stealing a man s purity and possibly his soul. The demanding, ironclad, persuasive tone Lawrence uses throughout his work makes the reader notice his strong opinion.. He writes that the Scarlet Letter is perhaps the most colossal satire ever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Harsh and abrupt syntax shoots literary bullets at Hester Prynne s character and rips holes into it that has not been seen before and Nathaniel Hawthorne in Lawrence s assessment of the Scarlet Letter. Bullets get his point across accurately and properly. The sentences are written in a bullet point format which launches his opinions with rigor. Lawrence s pinpointed syntax with line by line criticism leaves no room for the reader to ponder what he is saying. This makes the writer and the audience connect and believe what that Hester is longer a victim but, the antagonist. What Lawrence is saying through his exact and precise structure comes through seamlessly to the audience without a doubt. Consequently, he uses short and to the point sentences like A.The Scarlet Letter. Adulteress! The great Alpha. Alpha! Alpha! Adulteress! to get his points across and tear apart Hester Prynne (Lawrence). Lawrence wants his audience to see that Hester herself is the Scarlet Letter and the Scarlet Letter is also Hester. The abrupt, harsh, and disruptive syntax is used to persuade the audience into seeing the truth behind the curtain that is Hester Prynne while, she is being ripped from limb to limb with the bullets Lawrence is throwing . There are many types of behaviour management and discipline strategies for the classroom. Some of the theories are directly applicable and some theories can use with our own personal mix. Understanding these theories can help educators define their own classroom management methods and make decisions about how to best approach interactions with students (Hussung, 2016). 2.4.1 The Assertive Discipline Model This theory, proposed by Lee Canter (1976), suggests that students positive behaviours should be recognized and encouraged. As per his theory, teachers should inform students about expectations they have as well as rules they have set. Once they inform students, they will closely monitor who follow these guidelines. According to his theory, teachers should be entrusted with the right to teach without any intervention, while students should learn without any interruption (Edu excellence organisation, 2016). Most important thing in this model is teacher always reinforced positive more than negative. However, if the student violates the rules persistently, then he or she is punished. This include five steps namely; warning the student, giving 10 minute time out in isolation, giving the student a 15 minute time out in isolation, calling the student s parents and finally, sending the student to the principal s office. (New Oxford American Dictionary) Thus, some people work by holding full time jobs where they perform a task in order to get payed, while others exert their energy crafting or caring for others, and yet others devote themselves to learning. Because work is such an integral part of the American culture, it is hard to imagine life without it. However, this is exactly what Derek Thompson does in the article, A World Without Work. In this piece, Thompson explores what might happen if human work is replaced by technology. This essay challenges modern society s view that the sole purpose of work is to earn money and boost self esteem, instead asserting that it also plays an important role in holding together a community. Therefore, Thompson argues, the removal of it would have many negative impacts on American society. While A World Without Work does make some strong points about the harms of the end of work, the author fails to fully persuade the audience because he does not clearly define his key terms or provide concrete evidence to support either his main point or his proposed solution to the problem. In A World Without Work, Derek Thompson argues that in the near future, technology will remove the need for the American workforce, thus causing a major problem in our social dynamic and necessitating government intervention. In the novel Catch 22 by Joseph Heller it tells the story of a twenty eight year old bombardier stationed in world war two, set in a fictional island, Pianosa, somewhere in Italy. There are many opinions on war, there are pacifists, those who are willing to fight, and those who refuse to be involved even though it is very much needed. Although war may be necessary for self defense, it is by no means virtuous and has in fact affected the mental health of many like Yossarion. War is many things; malevolent, economically challenging, and controversial, but nevertheless it is necessary. In spite of the fact that Joseph Heller depicts the characters similar to Colonel Cathcart as an opposing factor, they do notice the importance of their role in the war, unlike Yossarion. Consequently, if the veterans don t acknowledge their importance then our progress as a nation will fail to proceed, our economic gain will suffer, over population will occur (worse than it already is), and our territory and freedom will be purloined, I m not running away from my responsibilities. I m running to them. There s nothing negative about running away to save my life. • 27. The Science Fiction Genre And Genre Essay The science fiction film genre has been around almost as long as movies have, but like the cinema it is still a fairly young art form. This genre came into existence shortly after the invention of the movie camera in 1888 and has endured for over one hundred years. Science fiction is adaptive; it changes with the times and this trend can be seen in its incorporation of other genres, cultural history and technology. This essay will attempt to define the genre, chronicle the history and evolution, and explore its relation to technology. This is in general and in the cinema. When discussing the science fiction film genre a problem occurs. The distinction between science fiction and other genres is not always clear cut. Many movies span between the science fiction genre and other genres. Movies such as The Ring (2002) or the Alien series (1979, 1986, 1992, 1997) illustrate how the distinction between science fiction and horror films can be obscure. (Telotte 46) Some comedies, such as Mars Attacks (1996) and Back to the Future (1985), are very much science fiction. (Mitchell 133) In fact there is an example of a science fiction film fitting into almost any genre. Starship Troopers (1997) parallels a war film and Outland (1981) resembles a western in many respects. (Telotte 45) The characteristics that define the science fiction genre can be difficult to pin down. • 28. St. Louis Catholic School When driving past the modest copper bricked building topped with a bulky black roof, one might only see it as just a school for children; however, there is so much more to it than what meets the eye. The large black cross that clings to the front entrance wall suggests to its visitants the school s religious affiliation which is further evidenced by the name St. Louis in slate black lettering on the wall parallel to it. St. Louis Catholic School was established in 1964 in Princeton, Illinois as a pre school through eighth grade elementary school and is still today. It remains the only Catholic elementary school in Bureau Country, making it unique to the area. Although the class sizes tend to be small with regards to the quantity of students, the many experiences that the school provides including the encouragement of creativity, providing a friendly and comfortable classroom environment and the stress on the formation of a loving community live with the students for the majority of their lives. St. Louis, as a school, provides children with the opportunity to be as imaginative as they can possibly be. This imaginative spirit is observed by the effulgently colorful pictures created by the fictive minds of the students, starring center stage on the windows that wrapped themselves tightly around the school like a bow on a package. Next to the building lies a lengthy plot of land. On it resides a flamboyantly colored playground set which lures adventurous children in to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Bradford Assay On Unknown Concentrations Of Proteins Bradford Assay on Unknown Concentrations of Proteins Taylor Coleman September 27, 2016 Lab Group 3 BIOL 1111: General Biology Lab Fall 2015 Section 107 Chad Perry Abstract Colorimetric assay is a process of determining a concentration of a solution based on absorbance of light. The purpose of this lab is to determine if the Bradford assay is an accurate way to determine an unknown concentration of two samples of protein. The Bradford assay is done by measuring wavelength of light passing through a cuvette filled with Bradford dye and concentrations of PBS and proteins. After the cuvettes are mixed they are placed into a spectrophotometer to measure wavelength. The wavelength given will be used to plot a standard curve based on concentration (x axis) and wavelength (y axis). The standard curve is then used to measure an educated guess on the concentrations of unknown protein concentrations. We hypothesized that if we use the Bradford assay and colorimetric spectrophotometry we can determine an accurate concentration of two unknown concentrations of proteins. The results of this lab failed to reject our hypothesis based on accurate measurements of protein concentrations. The standard curves are drawn with a linear increasing slope. The Bradford assay is an accurate way to demine the concentration of an unknown concentration. • 30. Brazilian Colonial Development Of Brazil History Most native tribes who were living in Brazil in the 1500 s thought they were descendants from the first wave of migrants from North Asia. At the time of European discovery, the territory of current day Brazil had as many as 2,000 nations and tribes, an estimated total population of nearly 3,000,000 Amerindians. ( Cia world factbook , 2016). It was discovered by a linguistic survey that there were 188 indigenous languages with 155,000 speakers around 9000 BC. Initially Portugal had little interest in Brazil, mainly because of high profits gained through commerce with Indochina. After 1530, the Portuguese Crown devised the Hereditary Captaincies system to effectively occupy its new colony, and later took direct control of the failed captaincies . ( Cia world fact book , 2016). Sugar was the most important Brazilian Colonial product until the early 18th century. Brazilian sugar at the time was stated as being high in quality, in comparison to those of other nations. However, when other countries started to produce and offer sugar at a lower price, the industry in Brazil faced a major crisis. During the 18th century, an independent explorer named Bandeirante, discovered gold and diamond in the state of Minas Gerais. Unfortunately, gold production declined towards the 18th century, starting a period of relative stagnation of the Brazilian hinterland. The man power of Amerindians and African slaves were greatly exploited in Brazil s colonial economy. ( Cia world ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The members of these favelas began to work together to provide medical care, methods of transportation and other necessities to one another. Due to the favelas being located near Rio s most affluent neighborhoods, the Brazilian government attempted to eradicate the favelas. However, they failed to address the root causes of Rio s poverty stricken areas and the favela population maintained their expansion unwaveringly through the 1950 s, 60 s and 70 s. The government lost hope in the evacuation of the favelas and abandoned their endeavor in the late 1970s. The vast change in Brazil s market due to drugs is elucidated in this quotation, By 1985, not only had Rio de Janeiro become the country s most important export node for drugs from the Andean regions to the United States and Europe, it had developed a sizeable local consumer market for cocaine that had been virtually non existent in prior years. • 33. The Effects Of Eugenic Sterilization Eugenics Sterilization, developed by an eminent scientist, Francis Galton, is the science of improving the qualities of the human species or a human population by controlling breeding to increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristic traits and decrease the occurrence of undesirable characteristic traits or genetical defects (Bergman, 2000). Eugenic sterilization refers to the involuntary sterilization of certain categories of individuals without their need for consent by those subjected to the procedure (Pozgar, 2012, p. 411). Eugenic Sterilization has ruined thousands of lives and impacted individual in multiple ways. Individuals classified as mentally deficient, feeble minded, epileptic, promiscuous, sexual deviants, or persons classified as habitual criminals were mainly targeted (Pozgar, 2012, p. 411). Eugenicists argued degenerate traits tainted society through the reproduction of the lowest class and sterilization was to keep the handicapped from perpetuating themselves (Kaelber, 2014). In addition, eugenicists also argued that feeble minded individuals were believed to be financial burdens to society by overcrowding prisons, hospitals and living off welfare (Kaelber, 2014). Eugenic Sterilization was seen as a way to prevent the spending of tax dollars on the feeble minded (Kaelber, 2014). These arguments allowed Eugenics to become an acceptable practice. Advocates believed that getting rid of the feeble minded and mentally deficient would decrease the undesirable characteristic traits within the human gene pool and ultimately improve the human population (Kaelber, 2014). The very first eugenic sterilization law was passed in 1919 but it was never put to use (Kaelber, 2014). Many worried that the law was unconstitutional and there the State feared putting it into practice (Kaelber, 2014). The landmark 1927 United States Supreme Court case of Buck Vs. Bell served as a catalyst for many eugenic sterilization programs across the Country (Scott, 2015). In 1929, The North Carolina General Assembly passed new sterilization laws (Kaelber, 2014). Adam Liptak, a journalist for the New York Times, explained in Utah, in Opposing Gay Marriage, Find Three Arguments are Better than One why a heterosexual relationship is better for raising children in. The Utah law that would have allowed same sex couples to marry was recently shot down. Liptak goes on to explain why he agrees with the bill not being passed. The article states that this was important in holding up and encouraging man woman unions as the preferred arrangement in which to raise children (Liptak, 2014, para. 12). This discrimination towards same sex couples wanting to raise children is appalling. Homosexual couples should have the right to raise children just as heterosexual couples do. Liptak argued his point by raising his concern for responsible procreation within society. He suggested that responsible procreation was between a man and woman inside of marriage. However, denying the right to marry and adopt to same sex couples the government is helping to increase the norm of sex and child raising outside of marriage. A lot of work and thought must go into the adoption of or alternative conception of a child. These processes are time consuming and the couple must put much thought and effort into having and raising a child before acquiring one through adoption, foster care, or using alternative conception methods. It is considered a problem in many senses, since it causes a number of issues for various different reasons. One major issue caused by overpopulation is the rise of unemployment. This is when people actively seeking employment or just people that are able to work remain unemployed. Overpopulation causes this because the amount of jobs available would be the same as before the city became overpopulated, meaning that there wouldn t be enough jobs for the amount of people needing one. A large amount of unemployed people are in that condition due to overpopulation, proving that overpopulation is the cause of a significant problem. A second problem caused by overpopulation is the degradation of the environment. With oil, water and natural gases being overused, it starts having severe effects on the environment. There are many negative consequences that we may have to face related to this, the cause of them being overpopulation. There are three main types of environmental degradation. The first type is air. Air pollution is one of the bigger issues within this category. Not only does it damage the air, it is also a hazard to human and animal health. Particles from the pollution can easily lodge themselves into lungs, and cause many problems in the body. Another type of environmental degradation of air is the depletion of the ozone layer. But what about passages in the Old Testament that seem to clearly indicate a Christ type that are not officially sanctioned by the New Testament writers?
