Gender Stereotypes In Australian Sport
With being involved in several sports at home it was a big interest to me to learn and be around
Australian sports. Though the States and here have some popular sports in common, Australia has a
few that aren t common back in the states like Rugby, Cricket, and AFL, which are very popular
sports. Sports might seem like an easy topic but underneath there are several things that cause
controversy, like national identity, sexism, and racism.
When someone asks what demographics make you think of Australia you may hear many say
beaches, tan surfers, and kangaroos. And if someone were to ask identify an Australian sport player
you might get a big bulky male rugby player . Things are stereotyped. It is important to recognize
that sport in Australia began almost immediately after the nation was colonized in 1788. Sport
reinforced other views of Australian national identity, which is male dominated. Men and women
are equal to one another but their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think sexism is slowly going in a forward direction especially here on campus but its still
definitely a problem throughout the nation. Currently there is only a men s rugby team on
campus however a friend of mine have mentioned to the university that there should be a women
s rugby team and are starting to put one together. Women s sports are belittled. Women don t get
enough respect clearly being pointed out by the ASC. They have found that media coverage for
male sport is at 81 percent compared to women sport, which is at 8.7 percent. It s astonishing to
me that there is such a gap still in this day and age. Women athletes work just as hard as men.
Same goes for the amount women are paid compared to what men are paid. New.com.au states
This means women are currently earning just 81.8 cents for every dollar their male colleagues
earn, down from an average of 85.1 cents ten years

My Instructional Design For Developing My Students ...
The theoretical framewok that informed my instructional design for developing my students
communicative competency in Spanish is the work of Helena Anderson Curtain and Carol Ann
Dahlberg Languages and Children, Making the Match (2004) which ...emphasize the importance of
a thematic center to support comprehension, providing a context to involve students in use of the
target language . Their theory links to my planning and instructions as I use a thematic center on
health to achieve the learningobjectives and allow students to engage in conversations. My
instructional design is also inform by the Howard Gardener s theory on multiple intelligences
(Gardner, Howard. Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences. New York: Basic, 1983.
Print.) which postulates that students learn information through a variety of sensory modalities.
My theoretical framework is also inform by the dual coding theorydeveloped by Mark Sadoski and
Allan Paivio(Sadoski, Mark, and Allan Paivio. Imagery and Text: A Dual Coding Theory of
Reading and Writing. Mahwah, N.J: L. Erlbaum Associates, 2001. Print.) as well as the Total

Incongruity In Kate Chopin s The Story Of An Hour
A statement from Patrick Rothfuss states We understand how dangerous a mask can be. We all
become what we pretend to be. . Two writers from the 1800s, Paul Laurence Dunbar, and Kate
Chopin created a lot of compositions that really indicated how much individuals, particularly
women, and African Americans needed to shroud themselves, or wear a mask with a specific end
goal to be acknowledged by the overall population among their time. In numerous works of writing,
realist writers shape subjects for a bigger political and social discourse. Kate Chopin, writer of The
Story of a Hour utilized situational incongruity and inferences to pass on her message to her
readers. In the meantime, Paul Laurence Dunbar utilized metaphorical dialect to maneuver... Show

In the ballad, We Wear The Mask , by the American writer Paul L. Dunbar, he portrays how life in
the 1800s for individuals, or especially African Americans were genuinely intense circumstances in
America. A lot of changes were happening, and numerous people had a troublesome time grappling
with them. African Americans, specifically, got themselves captured in a culture that showed up
fairly better to anything it had been previously amongst the Civil War. Yet, the truth was that
things were as yet out of line. We Wear The Mask is a poem that portrays all of the pretending
and the truth that hides behind it. We get a feeling that the fact of the matter is a fairly painful one,
so individuals wear masks to shroud the repulsive truth. After the Civil War, numerous African
Americans were left still abused by alternate races regardless of the thirteenth amendment being
passed. With this, they re caught alone with just their thoughts and minds. Dunbar s title We Wear
The Mask is a metaphor in itself since individuals wear masks to conceal their actual personality,
so these individuals were concealing their actual considerations and sentiments behind a
metaphorical mask . In one of the lines of the poem, Dunbar expresses We smile but oh, great
Christ our cries . (Dunbar 654) I think the principle reason Dunbar composed this line the way he
did is on

Three Types of Friends Essay
A friend is defined as someone emotionally close or somebody who trusts and is fond of another.
The affect that a person one calls his or her acquaintance can sometimes be very deep and
heartfelt. From my experience, I have encountered three types of friends: the chronic complainer,
the staller, and the know it all. A chronic complainer is a he or she that is fault finding. Chronic
complainers choose to blame someone else or something for his or her actions. Also, they are
uncertain about what should be done. I have this friend that I consider a chronic complainer; she
never takes the blame for anything and no matter what the situation is she s going to find a
problem. There have been plenty of times that we would go out to eat, and our... Show more content

The staller would not be of any help with moving or any other hard job. The person I know that
fits this description is not a friend but actually a family member. This person comes to do the
simplest job ever, but has to call two or three more people to come help him out. Instead of him
helping he stands there and gives out orders to everyone else. He also dose not get his important
business handled; he likes to sit around and wait until the last minute or until it s too late before
he tries to do anything about a situation. This is not someone who you would want helping you
with some very important job. Last but not least is the know it all. The know it all acts superior
and makes others feel stupid. They also maybe bullheaded and impatient; know it alls really don
need or want any help. One of my closest friends is a prime example of a know it all. She knows
everything that is discussed and want let anyone else put there say so in about the topic. One
day one of my cousins and I were talking about the cost of daycare and she just cut both of us off
and went on talking about the different costs. She didn t know what she was talking about
because she dose not have any kids. So when I cut her off and went to correcting her she got so
mad with me because what I was saying made more sense than what she was saying. Know it alls

The Yellow Wallpaper And I Stand Here Ironing By Tillie Olsen
Domestic ideology is a series of related ideas that characterized the family home as the domain of
the woman, and that based these ideas on the belief that women were innately weaker to the man.
The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and I Stand Here Ironing by Tillie Olsen show
great stories about women not falling into the domestic ideology role. The authors demonstrate this
through the ability to properly function, being an efficient mother, and not meeting the
expectations of the domestic ideology. The culture of women during the 1880s 1910s was
expected to get married and stay at home to become a housewife. They would have to raise the
children making sure they are behaved and well groomed. Also, women were expected to have the
house cleaned every day. From doing laundry to scrubbing the... Show more content on

In I Stand Here Ironing talks about a young mother experiences the struggle of raising her
daughter Emily. In result of being a young mother, she was not there for Emily because of
money circumstances to provide for her daughter. As Olsen states, She was a miracle to me, but
when she was eight months old I had to leave her daytimes with the woman downstairs to whom
she was no miracle at all, for I worked or looked for work and for Emily s father, who could no
longer endure (he wrote in his good‐by note) sharing want with us. I was nineteen. (300) The
narrator had no other choice but to leave Emily with a caregiver because she had to work and
provide for her. This brings a distance between mother and daughter. This is still an issue today
where young mothers can t bond or be stable with their child for various reasons: being a single
mother, financial burdens, because their significant other has left so they become the provider for

Examples Of John Proctor In The Crucible
John Proctor; Tragic Hero or Ordinary JoePlays have been used as a method of storytelling and
form of entertainment for hundreds of years. A tragedy is one type of play where the audience
pities the characters and fear the same consequences that the characters face. In addition, tragedies
often include a tragic herowho has a tragic flaw causing his or her downfall. One example of a play
that is a tragedyand includes a tragic hero is the The Crucible. John Proctor in The Crucible is a

Together with having extensive land, ProctorВґs crops were doing considerably well compared to
other farmers (Act 2). Not all farmers in the region are lucky and suffer from crop failures.
Because of his successful harvest and land, Proctor is considered superior and privileged in the
Salem community. Therefore, Proctor is a tragic hero because he holds the characteristics of
superiority. One cannot be a tragic hero with a tragic flaw. This flaw will lead to the downfall of
the protagonist. Proctor s tragic flaw is his inability to avoid temptation. Specifically, Proctor gave
into temptation of Abigail. In Act 1, Abigail confronts Proctor about his nightly visits to Abigail s
window. Proctor agrees that he has been visiting Abigail, owing to that he can not avoid the
temptation of Abigail. Although Abigail and him are no longer seeing each other, Proctor cannot
stay away from Abigail and gives into temptation to visit Abigail. Another example that
demonstrates Proctor s inability to avoid temptation is when Proctor confesses to the court about
his relationship with Abigail (Act 2). In court, Proctor could have kept the court oblivious to the
fact that he and Abigail had a relationship, instead as a last resort, Proctor gave into the temptation
and informed the court. In the process Proctor also ruined his name in the community. By giving
into temptation, Proctor caused his own demise. Tragic heroes eventually

Corruption In On The Waterfront
The corruption on the waterfront is the result of a leaderless group who don t know their own
power. Do you agree?
Kazan s 1954 film On the Waterfront highlights how the corruption on the waterfront is due to the
union exploiting their power. Kazan shows how characters in the film are scared to speak out
against the corruption on the docks, as the union instils fear to all workers. The unions is
controlled by Johnny Friendly who is seen as the leader, who controls everyone on the New Jersey
docks. Kazan also integrates the use of symbols and metaphors to show the extent of the union
power and authority.

as they commonly have it across their shoulder. This visual representation of the union s power
is further expanded as they are referred to as hawks you know this city is full of hawks, that s a
fact they hang around on those big hotels, and then they spot a pigeon in the park, right down on

workers are constantly seen with these hook, emphasising the idea that the mob is always around.
Throughout the film the idea of the hook punch is also present. It is a sneaky punch, laid around
the ribs, highlighting that people like Terry have to work at something quickly if they ever want to
get anywhere as the union oppresses them. Finally the Kazan uses fog, to represent the oppression
of the docks as they are deaf and dumb and the union instils fear to cloud their moral decision
making, ultimately causing them to not confession or be a stoolie. Kazan integrates symbols and

Essay On The Role Of Fear In French Revolution
Fear engulfed France as the revolution unfolded at home and spread abroad. The moderate
phase of the National Assembly turned France into a constitutional monarchy. A radical phase
of escalation violence led to the end of the monarchy and a Reign of Terror. Then followed a
period of reaction against extremism, known as the Directory. At last, the Age of Napoleon
consolidated many revolutionary changes. The political crisis of 1789 coincided with the worst
of famine known to man. Starving peasants roamed the country side where they swelled the
ranks of the unemployed. As food prices soared, even people with jobs has to spends as much as
80 percent of their income on bread and grain. During that time, rumors ran wild and set off what
was later called the Great Fear. Stories of attacks on villages and towns spread panic. Other
rumors asserted that government troops were seizing peasant crops. Inflamed by famine and fear,
peasants unleashed their fury on nobles who were trying to reimpose medieval dues. Defiant
peasants set fire to old manor records and stole food from the storehouses. The attacks eventually
died down after a period of time, but they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Replicating bad behaviour:
The effects that field training officers have on police recruit behavior According to Sir Robert
Peel, the founding father of modern policing, The power of the police to fulfill their functions and
duties is dependent upon public approval of their existence, actions, and behaviours and on their

Case Study Mercedes
Strategic Architecture:
Once the undisputed leader in the luxury car market, Mercedes Benz India (MBIL) is currently
facing stiff competition from its aggressive rivals BMW and Audi. Bernhard Kern, who recently
took over as the chief of MBIL, points out that it also reflects the absence of Mercedes cars in some
segments, unlike its peers. I have a very different picture (of the rankings) because in the saloon
and luxury SUVs, Mercedes is leading in India. We are not in some segments like smaller SUVs.
There are some gaps but we will close the gap, says Kern. The A class and diesel version of the B
class are part of MBIL s play against its peers at the lower part of the premium and luxury car
market.
Given the challenges and opportunities in India, 49 year old Kern, a 30 year Mercedes veteran,

Reading Access And The Teacher Salary Gap
The substratum of the society is predicated on inculcation since it brings economic and convivial
prosperity. Being educated enhances an individual to live a reverent life in the society. This is
because education offers a setting in which culture and values of a society are developed. In this
generation, inculcation in modern society provides a forum where the society examines its issues
and identifies solutions. The advancement of a society both economically and convivially is by
gaining edification which consequently enables them to run a modern society.getting access to

Persuasive Essay On Homeschool
Do you hate having to wake up early to get ready and drive to school? Are you sometimes late to
your 1st period of the day? Well if that s you, maybe public schools aren t for you. You should
try homeschool online and forget about being late to your first period ever again. Don t be like
the roosters and be smart. I choose homeschool online and the only thing that I regret is not
switching faster. Here are some Pros and cons When you re deciding which is best for you. The
most important factor is the educationthat you will be receiving. Sometimes is challenging
receiving the best education possible on public schools because of the distractions. If there s no
interruptions, then teacher will have no problem teaching and you will have a pretty dissent
education but that s rear. While in online homeschool there s no interruptions and your teacher will
have a one on one interaction with you to make sure that your are learning your lessons. Also, you
wouldn t be doing the same thing as other students because is based on each individual. Base on (
Homeschool World , 2010) a website about homeschooling, over 2.4 million students are now
learning from home, a 75% increase since 1999. This shows that every year more people are to
switching from public schools to homeschools. Another thing, did you know that students that
decide to do homeschool are doing better in national test than those in public schools? Maybe is
because of the minimum interruptions and more learning, that homeschool online students are out
performing public schools. Another thing that homeschool students are out performing public
school students are communication, daily living, socialization and maturity. Which helps
student on there every day lives. The best part of online home school is the schedule. The
schedule is based on each individual. For example, I work in the mornings and I get out at 5. I
get home and the first thing I do is turned on my laptop and get ready for my next lesson or to
revised one of my lessons. The only tricky part of setting your own schedule is following it.
Everything is possible, so, don t let that stop you. In the other hand if you re in a public school,

Canada s Expansion through Black Canadians
Black Canadians have shaped Canadian heritage and identity through their involvement in Canada s

of Black Canadians, African Canadians have suffered from constant discrimination in the 1800s a
time where slavery was the number one form of racism as well as during the Human Rights
Movement in the 1960s and 1970s. The vivid historical backgrounds of Black Canadians, who

Upon his decision to focus on track and field, Bailey attended numerous track championships

history is that he is the first Canadian in a hundred meter race to break the 10 second barrier ;
additionally, he maintained the title as the world s fastest man, until Usain Bolt claimed the title in
the 2008 Olympic Summer Games. After his retirement, Donovan Bailey did not become a silent

The animation genre was, and continues to be one of the most popular genres with adults and

In this essay I am going to explore the genre of animation in depth; looking at techniques used
throughout the animation genre, and I am also going to observe the development and changes
which have occurred since the very early forms of animation began and also since the very first

Another first of it s time was an animated cartoon Felix the cat created by Otto Messmer. The
overall feature of this cartoon and many others of this time, were crude and violent tricks to
entertain viewers. This is still evident in cartoons today such as Tom and Jerry (1965 present)
which is a modern example of a cartoon similar of this time, where characters would beat each
other repeatedly using a variety of props, this would barter back and forth between characters and
this was the overall plot to animations of this time.
In its earliest forms short animations were aimed at the young and also the older viewers. It was a
relatively new concept in the early 1920 s so the vast majority of the world were engrossed in this
new idea of animation.
As animation moved on from that of Gertie the Dinosaur the advancement of sound and colour

Walt Disney, possibly the most well known of animators, took the animation process to a higher

Analysis Of The Film Gravity
I want to start by recognizing that in my earlier film papers I have made the mistake of
summarizing all of the science in each of the films from start to finish. By doing so my paper
essentially became a summary of the film rather than an explanation of the science found within it.
To avoid repeating these mistakes I would like to focus on a few scientific concepts that I found
interesting in this film, Gravity. The first, and likely most obvious is the conceptof surviving in
space. Second, the concept of floating freely in space. Third, the concept of decomposition in the
zero gravity atmosphere of space. And fourth, the part of the movie where lieutenant Kowalski
propels himself with a fire extinguisher. I believe that Isaac Newtons three laws can help me to
explain these concepts. Gravity was a thrilling film that showed a situation in which astronauts were
stranded in space without a spacecraft or any means of communication. The surviving astronauts
had to fight for their lives in theoretically hardly survivable and unlivable conditions. The main
dilemma, and theme of the entire film, was the destruction of the International Space Station(ISS)
and most of the astronauts on board. Russia launched a missile into space to destroy one of their
satellites. This turned into a problem when the launch was successful, but the target was missed and
the mission failed. Debris was left spiraling through space at a rapid pace. Dr. Ryan Stone survived
the destruction along with

The Importance Of A Good Corporate Governance Framework
Introduction
This paper will discuss why a good corporate governance framework must incorporate stakeholder
accountability. For the purpose of this paper, the term stakeholder governance will be used to
incorporate all aspects of stakeholder accountability and engagement, that is; dialogue, decision
making, transparent operations and implementation of solutions to common problems or goals.
The first part of this paper will describe how the landscape has changed for business operations due
to environmental, economic and social reasons. It will set out the evolution of corporate
governance as a result of historical events and academic debate and suggest that, ultimately, the top
down, narrow paradigm of mainstream business, namely profit ... Show more content on

Business, no Longer an Island
Corporate governance is no longer viewed in isolation, as a matter for companies and their
institutional shareholders. Business scandals, global economic and social crises, climate change
and environmental disasters have impacted billions of people, hold high risk consequences and
extensive strategic and geopolitical implications for society at large. Issues traditionally seen as
outside of the business remit are becoming recognised as critical factors to long term business
success. Organisations are now being called to account for their impact on the environment and non
shareholding stakeholders. Just as a company board should ensure that financial statements are
properly audited, it is also responsible for ensuring that management is aware of, and properly
manages, less tangible, nonfinancial risks. In this regard, well managed and considered
stakeholder governance programmes should open up dialogue which encourages questions and
thereby provide access to a broader view of potential risks. Today, revenues of the world s largest
multinationals exceed the gross domestic products of a host of countries, multinationals have a
global reach not enjoyed by countries and private companies are increasingly being called upon to
deliver services that were once the domain of governments. The power relationship between country
states and multinational companies has shifted dramatically over the past 40 years and with that, the

Sophomore Savanah Doty Case Study
Ladies Fall Short in Attempt to Shake Up SCAC Standings, Lose in OT to Conference Leader
SHREVEPORT, La. The Ladies overcame a five point, fourth quarter deficit to tie the game, but
the Maroon and White went 1 for 5 from the line down the stretch in regulation and the Bulldogs
pulled away in overtime as Centenary (5 13, 1 5 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) lost to
conference leading Texas Lutheran 76 68 Sunday afternoon, January 22.
Down four with three minutes left in regulation, sophomore Savanah Doty hit a three. After a Texas

Texas Lutheran scored the next five, but another seven unanswered gave Centenary its first lead of
the game. Morris and freshman Deunya Small made layups and junior Peyton Hurst hit a fastbreak
triple with 5:18 left in the second. Centenary never trailed the rest of the half.
Small scored 10 points and grabbed 10 boards for her second double double of the season. She

The Food Truck I Visited
The food truck I visited is called Froyo To Go in Washington D.C. It was a franchised food truck of
Froyo To Go in Crystal city, Virginia. The franchisor Froyo To Go itself opened the store since
the end of 2013 as its food truck ended its operation from May, 2012. Froyo To Go sells freshly
made frozen yogurt with fresh fruittoppings, which were all made from natural and organic
ingredients. The main idea for the owner of the food truck was to deliver the health concept to
people.
Each portion of frozen yogurt was sold for six dollars with two toppings on it. Various fresh fruits
were included in the choices of toppings, such as kiwi, strawberry and banana. The biggest
advantage of Froyo To Go, expressed by the owner, was the healthy and fresh toppings with the
frozen yogurt for the image his product shows is healthier and thus more attractive to customers
than others. The competition is rather low comparing with other food trucks in this area with rare
similar products were sold around.
Before having this food truck, the owner said that the food trucks he saw were all selling heavy
meal such as spicy food from south America, fast food like hot dogs, burgers and kabobs.
One of the biggest reasons why he chose and became one of the franchisee food truck of Froyo To
Go was that the mobility gave him freedom to deliver his concept offering healthy food, more
pervasively. The healthy benefits were also listed outside of the truck telling and attracting people
to purchase.

Immigration Is A Current And Contemporary Issue
Immigration is a current and contemporary issue if only because of the vast numbers of people if
affects. 191 million people migrate worldwide each year, and this number is growing as the ways
of travelling worldwide become more advanced and more accessible over time. It is a most topical
issue, especially in areas such as politics, media and education. Psychologyoffers an important view
on this topic as research in this area helps with the development of policies and with raising
awareness of this small but growing area of the population.
Paragraph 1 research on discrimination why does it occur
Richards (1997) Most racist beliefs derive from the idea that there is a biological hierarchy
between different social groups based on perceived racial differences. This belief that there is a
natural order reflected in race persisted and was promoted in many scientific fields from 1850
1910, during which slavery, imperialism and colonialism created the ideal breeding ground for
these beliefs. Richards (1997) history of racism in psychology shows that the failure to
scientifically prove racist theories lead to psychologist beginning to see racism for what it really is
a phenomenon to be recognised as a problem within society.
Devine (1989) Stereotypes are learned early in life and are automatically activated, whereas
prejudices are learned later in life, and can be either consistent, or inconsistent with these
stereotypes. Devine argues that the fact that negative

possible because of the new aircrafts acquired by Air Canada; the Boeing 787 9 Dreamliner is
vital to Air Canada and plays a big role in their expansion as it creates a new level of experience
and comfort during the flight. It plans to use the 787 9, Dubai routes, because it offers a longer
flying distance and more passengers seating. The new destination is very suitable for Air
Canada as it plays a key role in opening markets in the Middle East which will help the airline go
further into Asia without using it s codeshares which in turn also means Air Canada will get all
of its profits and will not have to pay anything to the other airlines. This expansion will benefit
the economy, as it will bring in more passengers from around the world, which means there will
be an increase in tourism. The expansion will also catch the world s attention in the business
perspective as travelling from Dubai to Canada will be easier, more comfortable and quicker. The
new route also offers more options for travellers between Canada and the Middle East, as a direct
flight is easier and more comfortable than having 2 3 stops in between as it makes the journey
frustrating and very stressful.

(1) In your own words, describe the three major components of the Information Processing Model
of memory: Sensory Memory, Short term Memory, and Long term Memory.
The three major components of the Information Processing Model of memory work, in a way, as a
system. First, when sensory information from your sensory system gets encoded, it is considered
sensory memory; lasting about a second. The sensory information is then converted into short term
memory if and only if the individual is paying attention; lasting about as long as attention is held. If
the information is repeated/thought about enough, it will become long term memory; basically
etching itself across your cerebral cortex. That isn t to say that all long term memories are stored

The Tragic Hero Of King Lear
One loss builds on another, but moreover, his greatest loss, and what distinguishes this tragedy
from all others, is his chance of redemption. Unlike other tragedies, there is no salvation for the
tragic hero or any sign of optimism in the conclusion. This bleak portrayal of King Lear, through his
losses, makes him the ultimate tragic hero, and the play an ultimate tragedy.
In every tragedy, of course, there is a tragic hero. A person who has good intentions, but leads the
story to ruin through a fatal, and uncontrollable, flaw. The plot of the book centers around the
consequences of King Lear s flaw. Throughout the play, King Lear loses his land, his honor, his

Lear also puts Kent into exile because of his defense of Cordelia. By the end of the act, he has
removed most of the genuine influences in his court, and replaced them with insincere flatterers.
This starts the tragedy, and reveals Lear s tragic flaw: his narcissism.
An interesting way to approach Lear s character is by examining his relationship to his daughters.
There are no mother figures in the entirety of the play, and no women aside from the king s
daughters. When Lear divides his kingdom, he effectively turns the tables on his relationship with
his daughters.
Lear s lost land and authority now transfers to his two daughters, Goneril and Regan, and they
deceitfully use this power against him. Ironically, Lear also falls in status, to a level inferior to
that of his own children. Goneril no longer loves him beyond all manner and Regan no longer is
an enemy to all other joys as they have professed in the beginning (I.i. 61, 73). Instead, Goneril
reprimands his father for the way his servants and knights have infected her home (I.iv.237).
Regan follows suit, and insist that The old man and his people/ Cannot be well bestowed
(II.iv.258). His daughters no longer respect him as their father figure, treating him as a household
pest in the very best of situations. This is the beginning of Lear s other kind of loss: a loss of
identity. He has reverted into a more

In the Preface of Major Problems in Mexican American History Zaragosa Vargas writes, Nearly
two thirds of Latinos in the United States are of Mexican descent, or Chicanos a term of self
definition that emerged during the 1960 s and early 1970s civil rights movement. Chicanos reside
mainly in the Southwest, the Pacific Northwest, and the Midwest. Their history begins in the
precolonial Spanish era, and they share a rich mestizo cultural heritage of Spanish, Indian, and
African origins. The Chicanos past is underscored by conquest of the present day American
Southwest first by the Spanish and then by the United States following the Mexican American War

Similarities Between King Lear And Catcher In The Rye
The truth of one s character can be expressed through his or her own thoughts, actions, and
words. Respectively, one s downfall is embodied by his or her own character. In William
Shakespeare s King Lear, Lear s character is depicted as one who descends into madness as a
result of his irrational actions early in the play. Similarly, Holden Caulfield, from J.D Salinger s
The Catcher in the Rye, enters the coming of age process; however, his behaviour illustrates his
ongoing cynicism and depression. The reasons behind Learand Holden s downfall exist in the
physical, social and psychological flaws they inherit as tragic heroes. Both individuals suffer
immensely from their unreasonable actions from ill considered decision making, their inability to
maintain genuine relationships with others, and the psychological conflict within them.
Although both protagonists come from contrasting statuses and time periods, Lear and Holden
are alike in the way that they make arbitrary decisions, thus, breeding foolish actions. As a king,
Lear carries himself with great pride and dignity; however, it is this power that clouds his vision
in making well thought out decisions. In the beginning of the play, Lear decides to divide his
kingdom into three a section for each daughter. The scene ends unsuccessfully with Cordelia and
Kent being banished Lear. When Lear asks his daughters who love him the most, he sees Cordelia
s response as rejection compared to the responses of Goneril and Regan.

The Importance Of Child Labor
We Only Ask for Justice reads a sign created by protesters of the 1903 march for workers rights

1. INTRODUCTION
Nowadays the internal combustion engines are spread to the extent that they represent the main
cause of pollutant production. Nevertheless, it is well known that the stocks of fuels traditionally
used in this kind of engines will be able to satisfy the world s needs for few more decades. This
explains the massive research activity, drawn all over the world, addressed to the utilization of
innovative fuels and injection concepts in order to either replace the traditional ones or obtain a
more efficient and clean combustion. Compared to diesel engines, characterized by a high
efficiency but at the same time high levels of articulate, and to premixed charge gasoline engines,
characterized by a low efficiency because of knock limitations and pumping losses, lean burn
engines can reach a higher efficiency thanks to lower pumping losses and heat transfer. On the
contrary, lean mixtures generally imply higher levels of both total unburned hydrocarbons (THC)
and carbon monoxide. Nevertheless, mixing the fuel with an increasing quantity of air, flame
instability, sometimes leading to misfiring, is observed.

Energy Sources And Non Renewable Energy Source Essay
Intended Audience
Within this paper I wish to address two audiences, the first is best described as local
homeowners who are presently in the vicinity of windmills or who will be in the future, and are
somewhat skeptical of this renewable energy source. The second group that I wish to address are
those who are deemed to be environmentalists, who have a very strong faith in wind energy and
other forms of renewables. Since these two audiences can be quite different the way in which I
address concerns are going to have to be comprehensive to both.
With focusing first on locals, I wish to include the basic information on wind turbines so that all
aspects of this renewable energy source can be fully understood. I also will include a comparison of
wind energy to other forms of renewable energy sources and non renewable sources to point out
important numbers and values within the environment, the economy, and society. Locals have
many important needs, wants and values. They value their homes not only financially but in a
family sense as well, they value their health and safety. The want windmills to not have a negative

The Causes Of The Stonewall Riots
In 1969 in Greenwich Village, New York, a 6 day riot took place that would launch the first Pride
March and launch the Gay Rights movement as a national movement. The conflict was started
when police raided the Stonewall bar, a bar that was a safe place for homosexuals to visit, and
violence erupted between the two groups. In the end, homosexuals were granted more rights and
gained more acceptance in American culture. The Stonewall Riotstook place in Greenwich Village,
New York in 1969. Police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar run by the mafia, which outraged
its many patrons and the people of the village. The patrons of the bar was not the only reason the
Stonewall Inn got raided. Since it was illegal to sell alcohol to homosexuals, it was done
illegally. The SLA, the state liquor authority, would not give liquor licenses to those who would
sell to homosexuals. The Stonewall Inn owner, Fat Tony, combated this problem by saying the
bar was a bottle club. A bottle club was where the patrons would bring their own bottles and get
their alcohol from their privately owned stock. Violence broke out after 13 people were arrested
and put into a wagon. People in the crowd yelled at the police to stop. The officers responded by
telling them to get off the street. Someone started throwing pocket change at the officers, and others
began rocking the wagon (Rede). Other villagers and patrons threw objects at the police, such as
bricks and bottles, and chanted protests to the

would have chose this topic to do research on since it was still in the public eye. I learned quite a

the large time commitment to develop, increased anxiety with staff members, and other
administrative and communication requirements (Nowicki, 2015). For organizations that have
limited budgets and staffing, this approach could be problematic to implement.
Comprehensive Comprehensive budgeting integrates all budgets for the organization into one large
methodology (Nowicki, 2015). Seeing as many organizations utilize a top down approach with
budgeting, a comprehensive approach would be maintained by senior management while junior
management would focus on performance instead of budgetary issues.
No matter the design approach, all of management should understand the concepts of the budget and
monitor performance. Ultimately it is the responsibility of the CEO, CFO, and/or senior
management to monitor and evaluate if the organization is maintaining the budget through
operations. The board of directors should review the organization s budget for the year, oversee
major expenditures, and ensure that strategic goals are being met by the organization. With the
combined approach from all of management and the board of directors, a suitable budgetary plan
can be implemented to ensure the efficiency of the organization and accomplishment of strategic

Analysis Of Hawthorne s The Colony
Chapter 1 (I) 1. Hawthorne calling the colony a utopia is him being sarcastic and mocking
society because society is anything but perfect. The founders of the colony are in a false
pretense that their colony will be just as they visualize it with everything flawless and perfect.
This is what they think yet their first step in their utopia is to make a cemetery and a prison. A
cemetery represents death, so the founders are already expecting death to come before their
colony has even begun. A prison would be made to hold criminals, as though the founder already
know there will crooks and wickedness in their faultless and perfect colony. Hawthorne is mocking
the colony when he calls it a utopia and showing that nothing is ever perfect.
 2. A cemetery
and a prison are the two most vital structures in the utopian colony. The prison is to hold the
people who have wronged and stop them from interfering in the excellence and virtue of the
colony. Crimes are expected so the colony has a prison built in advance to maintain their imaginary
society of perfection. The cemetery is to hold the dead, because death is always to come no matter
what.
 3. He points out the rose bush because it is symbolizing hope and prevalence against the
darkness. The plant is blooming despite the prison near it, which represents sins and wrongs. It also
continues to grow even with the oaks and pines trying to cover it and take up the light. Hawthorne
is sending out a message that even though there

Essay about The Time Machine by H.G. Wells
The Time Machine by H.G. Wells
Works Cited Not Included
Time traveling, a concept known to modern man as inconceivable, but in The Time Machine, by
H.G. Wells, this fathom of human fantasy has come to life. Wells entangles a unique blend of
contrasting characters, conflicts of capitalist verses laborer divisions, and foreshadowing of the
destruction of humanity to seem together this novel of visionary proportions. The Time Machine is
a bleak and sober vision of man s place in the Universe. (McConnell Pg.1581)
Well s use of characters in The Time Machine brings a heavy sense of contrast and diversity into
the story. There are five main characters around which the story revolves. Beginning with the Eloi
and the Morlocks, which are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Morlocks, on the other hand from the Eloi, are the laborer and harsher branch of humanity.
The Morlocks are hairy and monstrous creatures with red glowing eyes and razor sharp teeth. He
is supprised to learn of another people, the Morlocks, ugly, fearsome, and subterranean. (Molson
Pg.600) The Morlocks live under ground in a subterranean environment running machines and
underground factories. Due to their adaptations to their underground living environment, the
Morlocks only come to the upper world in the dark, for they cannot stand the glare of sunlight.
They are strange little beings whose pallid bodies are just the half bleached color of the worms
and things one sees preserved in spirit in a zoological museum. They are chinless, and in their
faces are set great lidless, pinkish grey eyes that glow of red. At night they leave their subterranean
world to hunt down Eloi for food. (McConnell Pg.3865)
The next character is the Time Traveler himself, who remains nameless throughout the whole
novel. He is an inventor with an infatuation of the future and Darwin s theory of the fourth
dimension. The Time Traveler is middle class citizen, just as Wells was in his day. The traveler is
highly concerned with the world to come and has spent years perfecting his spectacular machine. It
took two years to make, retorted the Time Traveler. (Wells Pg.14)

Comparing the Characters of Faustus and Hamlet
Both Hamlet and Faustus contain a clash of themes and traditions, all catalysed by Religion. This
is used to establish a theme of deception, which greatly impacts the protagonist s procrastination.
Procrastination is considered to be Hamlet s tragic flaw, however Faustus s flaw is considered to
be his hubris.
Hamlet is in fact a play adapted by Shakespeare, not by name. But there are several scriptures that
can be identified to being similar to the plot. One is called Saga of Hrolf Kraki. Believed to be
Scandinavian. The second is the Roman legend of Brutus. In Shakespeare s version Hamlet is the
prince of Denmark heir to the throne, whose life takes a turn for the worst after his father s death.
This version of Hamlet is the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore we can assume that Faustus is a protestant, but it can be argued that Marlowe could have
possibly made this protestant connection in his defence to cease all accusations about him being a
practicing catholic. Hence, the scene where Faustus appears to be mocking the pope.
The pay is built upon Hamlet s hesitation over fulfilling the task of revenge that is assigned to him:
but its text offers no reason or motives for these hesitations
(Sigmund Freud)
This comment gives us an insight that Hamlet s tragic flaw is in fact his procrastination to killing
Claudius. Although the literal text does not offer a valid reason for his procrastination, the sub text
imposes a compelling argument.
I am thy father s spirit, Doom d for a certain term to walk the night, and for the day confined to
fast in fires, till the foul crimes done in my days of nature are burnt and purged away
(1.5.9)
The ghost appears before Hamlet and claims to be the spirit of his father; he also mentions that he
is in purgatory. While belief in Purgatory remains part of Roman Catholic teaching today, the
Protestant Reformers explicitly rejected it in the sixteenth century1. This suggests that the ghost is
a catholic, which may not have made a difference to Hamlet s character, however although the play
s story is set in the late middle ages (before the Protestant Reformation),

Self Improvement Of Benjamin Franklin
No gains without pains. (Franklin) This phrase reflects the American way of thought that without
pain or suffering there can never be a gain or success. It s interesting to think that such a well
known phrase, was invented by one of the most impactful figures for the development of the United
States of America. Benjamin Franklinis well known as a man of science and a major contributor to
the drafting of the Declaration of Independence and the United StatesConstitution. Towards the end
of his life, Benjamin wrote about his success and failures. This text served as a guide to self
improvement and evaluation of one s behavior. In The Autobiography, Benjamin Franklin s plan for
self improvement was most successful when using Frugality, Silence, and Humility, while Order
remained a difficulty. There is no doubt, the virtuewhich allowed Benjamin Franklin to make a
successful contribution to the Independence of the colonies from Great Britain was Frugality. In
The Autobiography, Benjamin Franklin states that frugality is to Make no expense but to do
good to others or yourself; i.e.., waste nothing. Every action and word had purpose for Franklin,
he knew that the purpose was to do good, not just for himself but for others. Franklin s efforts to
serve people and do good are clear during the Revolutionary War. To this day the ideas of Franklin
are reflected in a well know phrase, Service above Self. The phrase serves as the motto for the club,
Rotary International, which

Though the States and here have some popular sports in common, Australia has a few that aren t common back in the states like Rugby, Cricket, and AFL, which are very popular sports. Sports might seem like an easy topic but underneath there are several things that cause controversy, like national identity, sexism, and racism. When someone asks what demographics make you think of Australia you may hear many say beaches, tan surfers, and kangaroos. And if someone were to ask identify an Australian sport player you might get a big bulky male rugby player . Things are stereotyped. It is important to recognize that sport in Australia began almost immediately after the nation was colonized in 1788. Sport reinforced other views of Australian national identity, which is male dominated. Men and women are equal to one another but their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Women s sports are belittled. Women don t get enough respect clearly being pointed out by the ASC. They have found that media coverage for male sport is at 81 percent compared to women sport, which is at 8.7 percent. It s astonishing to me that there is such a gap still in this day and age. Women athletes work just as hard as men. Same goes for the amount women are paid compared to what men are paid. African Americans, specifically, got themselves captured in a culture that showed up fairly better to anything it had been previously amongst the Civil War. The affect that a person one calls his or her acquaintance can sometimes be very deep and heartfelt. From my experience, I have encountered three types of friends: the chronic complainer, the staller, and the know it all. A chronic complainer is a he or she that is fault finding. Chronic complainers choose to blame someone else or something for his or her actions. Also, they are uncertain about what should be done. • 21. Analysis Of The Film Gravity I want to start by recognizing that in my earlier film papers I have made the mistake of summarizing all of the science in each of the films from start to finish. By doing so my paper essentially became a summary of the film rather than an explanation of the science found within it. To avoid repeating these mistakes I would like to focus on a few scientific concepts that I found interesting in this film, Gravity. The first, and likely most obvious is the conceptof surviving in space. Second, the concept of floating freely in space. Third, the concept of decomposition in the zero gravity atmosphere of space. And fourth, the part of the movie where lieutenant Kowalski propels himself with a fire extinguisher. I believe that Isaac Newtons three laws can help me to explain these concepts. Gravity was a thrilling film that showed a situation in which astronauts were stranded in space without a spacecraft or any means of communication. The surviving astronauts had to fight for their lives in theoretically hardly survivable and unlivable conditions. The main dilemma, and theme of the entire film, was the destruction of the International Space Station(ISS) and most of the astronauts on board. Russia launched a missile into space to destroy one of their satellites. This turned into a problem when the launch was successful, but the target was missed and the mission failed. Paragraph 1 research on discrimination why does it occur Richards (1997) Most racist beliefs derive from the idea that there is a biological hierarchy between different social groups based on perceived racial differences. This belief that there is a natural order reflected in race persisted and was promoted in many scientific fields from 1850 1910, during which slavery, imperialism and colonialism created the ideal breeding ground for these beliefs. This starts the tragedy, and reveals Lear s tragic flaw: his narcissism. An interesting way to approach Lear s character is by examining his relationship to his daughters. There are no mother figures in the entirety of the play, and no women aside from the king s daughters. When Lear divides his kingdom, he effectively turns the tables on his relationship with his daughters. Lear s lost land and authority now transfers to his two daughters, Goneril and Regan, and they deceitfully use this power against him. Ironically, Lear also falls in status, to a level inferior to that of his own children. Goneril no longer loves him beyond all manner and Regan no longer is an enemy to all other joys as they have professed in the beginning (I.i. 61, 73). Instead, Goneril reprimands his father for the way his servants and knights have infected her home (I.iv.237). Regan follows suit, and insist that The old man and his people/ Cannot be well bestowed (II.iv.258). Chicanos reside mainly in the Southwest, the Pacific Northwest, and the Midwest. Their history begins in the precolonial Spanish era, and they share a rich mestizo cultural heritage of Spanish, Indian, and African origins. • 36. Similarities Between King Lear And Catcher In The Rye The truth of one s character can be expressed through his or her own thoughts, actions, and words. Respectively, one s downfall is embodied by his or her own character. In William Shakespeare s King Lear, Lear s character is depicted as one who descends into madness as a result of his irrational actions early in the play. Similarly, Holden Caulfield, from J.D Salinger s The Catcher in the Rye, enters the coming of age process; however, his behaviour illustrates his ongoing cynicism and depression. The reasons behind Learand Holden s downfall exist in the physical, social and psychological flaws they inherit as tragic heroes. Both individuals suffer immensely from their unreasonable actions from ill considered decision making, their inability to maintain genuine relationships with others, and the psychological conflict within them. Although both protagonists come from contrasting statuses and time periods, Lear and Holden are alike in the way that they make arbitrary decisions, thus, breeding foolish actions. As a king, Lear carries himself with great pride and dignity; however, it is this power that clouds his vision in making well thought out decisions. In the beginning of the play, Lear decides to divide his kingdom into three a section for each daughter. The scene ends unsuccessfully with Cordelia and Kent being banished Lear. In the end, homosexuals were granted more rights and gained more acceptance in American culture. The Stonewall Riotstook place in Greenwich Village, New York in 1969. Police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar run by the mafia, which outraged its many patrons and the people of the village. The patrons of the bar was not the only reason the Stonewall Inn got raided. Since it was illegal to sell alcohol to homosexuals, it was done illegally. The SLA, the state liquor authority, would not give liquor licenses to those who would sell to homosexuals. The Stonewall Inn owner, Fat Tony, combated this problem by saying the bar was a bottle club. A bottle club was where the patrons would bring their own bottles and get their alcohol from their privately owned stock. Violence broke out after 13 people were arrested and put into a wagon. People in the crowd yelled at the police to stop. The officers responded by telling them to get off the street. The founders of the colony are in a false pretense that their colony will be just as they visualize it with everything flawless and perfect. This is what they think yet their first step in their utopia is to make a cemetery and a prison. A cemetery represents death, so the founders are already expecting death to come before their colony has even begun. A prison would be made to hold criminals, as though the founder already know there will crooks and wickedness in their faultless and perfect colony. While belief in Purgatory remains part of Roman Catholic teaching today, the Protestant Reformers explicitly rejected it in the sixteenth century1.
