4. Botanical description:
• Erect annual herb
• Height 45-60
• Green leaves with white flowers
• Leaves are trifoliate
• Leaflets are upto 2.5 cm long

5. Ditribution:
• Native to S. Europe
• India is major producer and exporter
• Cultivated in Pakistan near industrial areas

6. Types of methi:
• Common methi
Also called as desi methi.
• Kasuri methi
Also called scented methi

7. Uses:
• Used as herb
• Use in different curry e.g aloo methi curry
• Used in pickles
• Used in vegetable dishes
• Use for making paste

9. Soil and climate:
• Area of low to moderate rainfall
• Cannot withstand in heavy rainfall
• Require loamy well drained soil

10. Propagation:
• Propagated by seeds
• Seed generally broadcast in beds and surface
rake to cover it
• Common methi takes 5-6 days to germinate
• Kasuri require 7-8 days

11. Sowing time:
• Middle of june to early july
Manure and fertilizer:
• Basal dressing of 10 tons FYM and 25 kg P2O5
• N : P : K
• 25 : 25 : 50
• Irrigation:
• 1-2 irrigations are enough

12. Disease and managment:
• Powdery mildew
• Downy mildew
• Sulphur and Bordeaux mixture sprayed to control

13. Harvesting:
• 2-3 month after sowing
• During harvesting plants are pulled out, threshed and
dried in sun
• After drying they are beaten, seeds are saperated,
winnowed and cleaned

• Average yield of 1000-1500 kg of seeds
• 9000-10000 kg/ha leaves
