Production diary
13th
October- Today I started production with my frontcover. I started to
create a cover more like a magazine cover rather than a fanzineas I was trying
to cram too much onto the page and box things off, I got my base images down
and had my title design ready as well as creating a small simple logo, but
tomorrow I will redesign the frontcover to make it more fanzinelike.
14th
October- I started off today by planning out how I was going to redesign
my frontcover, I decided to keep it simple and remove the text and took away
the boxes. I then added filters to the background images to make them look
like hand-drawn, cartoon images which is a theme I will keep throughout. I
placed my title at the top and started to create my back cover. I wanted to
keep my back cover as simple as possible, so I added a single image which I
added filters over then a small simple title over the top.
15th
October- I finished off the back cover today by finding a barcode generator
to get my own unique barcodewith custom text, then I moved onto the inside
of the magazine. I started of with the contents page where is created this
simple list of the pages and the contents of them, I added a filtered image to it
and somegrass underneath him. I then decided to make it a little more unique
and changed the page numbers to football shirts with numbers on the back of
them.
20th
October- Today I moved onto my advertwhere I decided to create my own
sports clothing brand to keep it relevant to the zine. I created a fluorescent
advertwith big bits of text and some t-shirts I quickly designed, I decided this
looked tacky and ruined the page, so I decided to delete it all and try again. I
went to go have a look at some other sportbrand posters for someinspiration
and found that the most effective ads seemed to be a simple image of a
sportsman with a catch line behind them. I decided to create my own version
with a footballer and then removed their club badge and add the company’s
logo then finished by writing the name of the company at the bottom.
21st
October- Onto the next page I started my Premiere league double page
spread, I started off by choosing a background and decided that the official
league background would makethe most sense, after slightly tweaking with
the colouring to make the text more readable, I went on to create my own
shortened premier league table by using boxes, text and cut out badges. I
decided for the match recaps I would show off the player ratings from the best
player on either teams and I did this by using a tool that allows you to fit
images into shapes, so I took their player profiles and put them into circles.
22nd
October- I finished off my Premier League pages by adding in the text into
the gaps, I keptthe font nice and simple, so the page didn’t get overcrowded
and complicated. I then moved onto the Champions League (CL) and transfer
window double page spread and began to plan my layout. Once I had decided
on a good layout, I found the official CL background to put across the whole
spread which had to be darkened slightly to make the text morevisible. I once
again decided to get all my images onto the pages so I could form my text
around them and see how much I was able to write.
5th
October- At the startof today I finished off my CL and transfer page spread,
I put a club’s badge down then added a cut out player that recently transferred
to that club to show wherethey moved to. I then added the text to these
pages which I changed the position of after writing to finish it off.
10th
October- Oncethose pages were finished, I moved onto my Football
disability page. I wanted to keep this page quite simple as the wholepoint of it
is to make people awareof what is available to the disadvantaged, I had to do
a lot of research for this page to find out about the local disability football
centres, where they were, what they include and how to get involved. Once I
knew what to talk about, I found an image from the team I had chosen who
had recently won a trophy, I decided not to put a filter over it as this was a
serious article and I felt that would be inappropriate, I kept the background
blank to keep the page simple then I finished it off by adding in their contact
details.
11th
October- Today I started my final double page spread about top level
football players and how they got from being a young child with dreams to
wherethey arenow. I chose Trent and Ronaldo as my two players the found
pictures of them when they were younger and drew an arrow to current
pictures of them with backgrounds relating to them. I choseAnfield as Trent’s
background as that is the stadium, he grew up wanting to play in, then chose
five Ballon D’Or trophies for Ronaldo as that is probably his biggest
achievement. I then went and did some research on both their backstories and
wroteup an article about them each.
12th
October- This is the final day of production, and I previously hadn’tgotthe
interview I wanted so I was forced to use my backup one as I didn’t have
anymoretime to spare. I again decided for a simple layout of the page by
creating a huge background image, then adding text over the top. I chosea
Manchester City shirt as the background as that was the team the person, I
interviewed is a fan of and its what mostof the questions werecentred
around. I wrotethe interview up whilst listening to the recording and wroteit
in almost a script layout. Once this page was finished, I wentthrough all the
pages to do somefinishing touches then exported the pages into images.
