The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

1. PRODUCTION -
AUDIENCE FEEDBACK.
IHAVE UNDERTAKEN AN AUDIENCE FEEDBACK UPON MY PRODUCTION OF
MY MAGAZINE SO FAR. THIS WILL ENABLE ME TO USE THESE RESPONSES
TO IMPROVE MY MAGAZINE FOR THEM AS MY AUDIENCE.
3. Strengths Weaknesses
• The use of artists in my images were effective as
they are recognisable, which appeals and attracts to
them as it’s what they expect, because it relates to
their psychographics. This appeals and attracts them
to my magazine also because they can familiarise.
• The use of camerawork I have incorporated were
effective, in terms of angles, shots and composition
is effective so far as my audience are able to identify
the artists and the way they are represented, which
made them appeal and attract to my magazine.
• They range of images I have used were effective,
have appealed to my audience, in terms of variety of
shot types, angles. They specifically are attracted to
the conventional use of body language of the artists
as they are looking into the camera, which makes
them feel engaged and form a personal relationship
with them, in which appeals to them.
• The use of feminine colour scheme, in terms of
camerawork this includes the use of (mise-en scene)
high-key lighting, costumes, has been effective for
my audience, due to the fact that it meets their
expectations of a pop music magazine, in which
makes them feel appealed to my magazine.
• The front cover main image has
limited effectiveness in terms of
editing and use of technology, as it
appears to be distorted to them
which affects their appealingness
and attraction to them because, it
generates an unprofessional
impression of the audience.
4. PHOTOGRAPHY IMPROVEMENTS
Use of technology – my
main image needs to
improve, in terms of the
editing and make it less
distorted, this will present
my magazine professionally
in order to further appeal
and attract my audience
more effectively.
5. Colour scheme
The use of colour scheme in my magazine was
successful. 100% of my target audience
responded with to the colour palette being eye-
catching. A majority commented that it made
them feel “happy”, and that they “want to read
it”, one commented on how the colours make
the magazine stand out. Overall this is effective
because, my audience felt a positive effect,
which led them to becoming appealed and
attracted and allured into reading further, also
that it differentiae's to them from competing
similar magazines makes the colour scheme
more successful in its effectiveness because it
has allowed me to create house of style in
which enabled to generate a brand identity,
from this my audience has recognised and are
able to identify.
6. Strengths Weaknesses
• Colour scheme have complimented
each other and connoted the feeling of
vibrancy and energy which achieved
what I planned for the brand identity.
• All together they were eye-catching,
and was successful in attracting the
audience.
• Some colours were too bright
against the white background, which
made it difficult to read for them,
making them feel a little dissatisfied
limiting how appealed they were to
my magazine
7. Typography in terms of colour for
fonts to be more saturated in
colour, to avoid too much
brightness and making it difficult for
the audience to read.
Audience commented on how these
combination of colours were clashing
and too bright, making it difficult to
read. To improve, I shall change the
colour of the font so that it is much
more darker and easier to read.
8.
9. Typography
The use of typography I have incorporated into my magazine was effective. This is because a majority of them
commented that yes it was effective successful in attracting my audience, many responded with yes they are readable.
The strengths of the use of my typography is that the subtle variations in font styles (sans and sans serif) and sizes was
effective as the audience was able to read it, and eye-catching in a way that they were captivated by the more
significant contents because of the use of font styles.
One commented on how they liked the use of subtle variation of font styles as it still appeared professional meaning, it
was easy for them to read; readability and quality of magazine appeared visually appealing.
My brand identity was recognised, as an audience had commented on how they liked the differentiation in the H of my
magazine logo, this shows that my magazine has created it own brand identity through the use of typography, audience
will be able to recognise it because of its originality and outstands from different magazines in the same genre
(competitors).
Again however, one of my audience members were dissatisfied with the colours as they feel this did not clashed with
the font styles which made it appear washed out. This made some fonts harder to read, to improve, I will again change
the colour scheme and select ones that are more saturated within the same family colour range.
10.
11. HOUSE OF STYLE
100% of my target audience who took my
questionnaire responded with yes, if they
were to see my magazine in a shop they
would recognise it as Harmonise. This shows
so far in my production that my use of house
of style (feminine colour scheme, slight
variation in font styles, brand logo, mode of
address) was effective as it has created a
brand identity for my magazine. In addition to
this the use of other technical elements such
as camerawork, mise-en scene and layout
have contributed to creating this as brand
identity because my majority of the time my
audience has commented on how happy and
vibrant the magazine is. To keep this strength,
I need to make keep showcasing these brand
identity consistently if they do change for
improvement.
12.
13. So far in production a majority of my
audience has given back positive feedback.
The magazine seems to meet their
expectations in terms of conventions, they
state that most of the elements to appeal
and attract to them. I addition to this, they
have commented that the magazine makes
them feel happy and captivated to read on
further, and finally it makes them feel
interested, which overall meets the targets of
my planning and to further appealing and
attracting them I will make those
improvements for the weaknesses.
