This document contains an evaluation of a media product created by Bakhtawar Jawaid. [1] It discusses how the product uses conventions of real magazines, such as an attention-grabbing masthead, cover lines in large font, and an attractive smiling model on the cover. [2] The product represents younger audiences interested in up-and-coming artists in genres like UK urban rap and American rap, targeting both female and male readers. [3] A magazine publisher like Bauer would be suited to distribute the product to attract advertising from artists, tours, and other businesses.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real media products?
It uses conventions such as a big bold mast head in order to grab
the reader’s attention, alongside cover lines of a large font on
the front cover. Another convention is an attractive male/female
making direct eye contact with the camera, which is what I have
included; I have made sure my model was smiling as well to
make the reader feel invited. Another typical convention I
followed was the type of font used throughout the magazine and
the colour scheme. I think my colour scheme was simple but yet
powerful in terms of gaining attention, and the font is unique
which represents the magazine itself, in terms of the artists and
the type of music promoted within the magazine.
3. How does your media product represent
particular social groups?
It relates to my age group as I included stories
about the music industries and upcoming artists
that would be able to relate to my age group. Such
as U.K Urban rap and American rap.
My magazine can relate to both genders as it
includes up and coming female singers to relate to
females, I try to keep it open to both genders by
including female and male artists, I was more
concerned about keeping it within the age group
rather than on the sex of the reader.
4. What kind of media institution might distribute
your media product and why?
I think a magazine publisher like BAUER would
distribute my magazine because of my USP (unique
selling point) and as well they can sell
advertisement space to an artist trying to be
recognised, a tour concert, a mobile etc. Not only
would it benefit me it would benefit them as the
more popular my magazine would become the
more companies would like an advertising page
within my magazine and therefore making the
magazine publisher more money.
5. Who would be the audience for your media product?
My magazine is aimed at a particular audience
in the U.K, it is specialised for the16+ females
and males who are interested in keeping on
track with the music industry, interested in who
are the new up and coming artists that bring a
unique vibe to the type of music that they
enjoy, and who also like to be informed on what
type of music is the most popular today.
6. How did you attract/ address your
audience?
I tried to attract my audience by having my model on the
front cover smiling to make the reader feel more invited
into reading the magazine and also having cover lines that
most youths of today would like to read about, e.g. Merc
‘The reality’ (an interview) keeping it short and snappy
and not too detailed to make the reader think that it is a
story worth reading and also to not bore them just by
reading the cover line. I tried to address my audience by
making them feel comfortable by the type of dialect
used, for example my wording was not formal but it was
neither ‘slang’ to give off a relaxed vibe and make the
reader want to proceed in reading the rest of the
magazine.
7. What have you learnt about technologies from
the process of constructing this product?
Technologies such as in design allow you to be very
specific on how to arrange the front cover, contents
page, and double page spread for example bringing a text
box from behind to the front can be done within two
clicks. Alongside adding columns on a page to divide the
writing, it has some similarities to word publisher, but I
feel as though it is more advanced and more accurate.
Also adobe photo shop can allow for you to make your
images as dramatic or simple as you please, although it
takes a while for the actual image to look how you want
it, its worth the wait as it will look exactly how you image
it in your head.
8. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel
you have learnt in the progression from it to the full
product?
I feel as though I have learnt more about the
conventions needed to fulfil a successful
product, along the way I learnt more about how
the colour of the font, the size of the font, the
attractiveness of the models, and the positing of
text boxes have an impact on the quality of the
over all product and as well what the reader’s
may think when looking at y product. I made
myself think about how a magazine should look
if I was to purchase one.
