Question 4 &5
WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOU MEDIA PRODUCT? AND HOW DI
YOU ATTRACT/ADDRESS THIS AUDIENCE?
Target Audience
I choose to make my production set as an alternative soul
magazine aimed at middle class , aged between 18-25 year
olds with originally no particular gender. This was because I
felt the majority of the readers would be in this demographic
of people , but also when completing my production I also
think that the genre of music could have also suited an older
model. I did originally plan to have both male and female
models in my magazine but due to the feature story I had on
my double page spread I decided to go with just a female
model for this particular edition , although as I have previously
spoken about in my other questions this my have reflected to
only suit a female audience.
Editing
A way I appealed to my target audience was the use fo my
editing techniques. One way I did this was by making sure the
colours I used were bright and attracted my readers, by
increasing the contrast (as shown on the right) to make sure
these stand out an engaged the readers attention further, giving
the magazine an overall more appealing look. This editing
technique also gave a professional look suiting my target
audiences needs. For my double page spread I edited the image
by not only adjusting the contrast but also the brightness which
aloud the attention to me drawn in and furthermore gave the
image a more poignant and dramatic look. This would appeal to
more audience as they wold be able to react to the image and
compare themselves and the way they ac to the same way the
model is .
Layout
For the double page spread I used a very
simple and clear layout by putting my text
into columns with pull quotes amongst
them in order to break the heavy text this
helped me to create a relaxed look to
appeal to the audience and therefore
fulfilled both cognitive and informative
needs (uses and grats).
The contents page I used a single column
of text in order to position my text in , this
allowed for the image to draw the most
attention while still being able to inform
the readers
The front cover I used a conventional
layout in order to suit the audiences
Language
The language I used on my double page spread was chosen in
order to appeal to the tastes of y audience and allow the correct
and appropriate tone to address my readers with. This meant I
had to use dramatic language and rhetorical questions in order to
intrigue and engage my younger audience.
On the contents page I used very simple and plain language that
was simple and short in order to be minimal so that there wasn’t
too much text so that it did not crowd the page and take away
from the main image
My front cover I used a rhetorical question in order to create some
kind of tension by intriguing my audience by stimulating their
interest. I also used informative information fulfilling their needs
to understand what was in the magazine. The use of the rhetorical
question also helps to engage the reader by making them think d
creating interests. The word ‘exclusive’ also aloud me to create this
interest ad tension by trying to make the magazine seem unique
to what information it offered.
Mise-en-scene
The first way in which I appealed to my target audience was the use
of the models clothing , the vintage yellow crop top or long sleeve
black turtle neck and baggy high wasted jeans helped to create a
retro and vintage style in order to incorporate the music genre in
with the artist and therefore give a visual representation of the music
genre. The head scarf she is wearing in the image on the front cover
also helps to create this vintage style helping create a relationship
between the music genre , as soul is often associated with more
classical and vintage time periods, and the model. The backgrounds I
have used are all white and plain , this is so that the model can be
focused on by the audience and therefore help them to connect and
relate to her, showing that she is very important ass she is the main
feature of this magazine. The vinyl record present in every image I
used also reinforces and emphasises the music genre and style
further by creating this style and what records often connate as being
old style music, vintage and retro. This would appeal to my audience
as it would hopefully be able to connect this style with one similar to
theirs.
Image
My images I used appealed to my
audience I felt because firstly I used direct
mode of address , therefore creating a
relationship with my readers (uses and
grats) making them more drawn in to the
magazine. This was clear on my double
page spread and my contents page.
However I did not use this on my contents
page as I felt it was important to show a
different expression on the models face in
order to create a positive theme on this
pages it was a very simple layout so
therefore needed this in order to be
effective.
