The document discusses the target audience for a regional magazine. The target audience is primarily middle-aged, wealthy females who enjoy scenic photos, traditional font and house layout styles. The magazine will appeal to this audience through its visual design elements. Focus groups and questionnaires with the target audience will help the creator make decisions to best suit the audience's preferences and produce the most effective magazine.
2. Existing Audiences
The magazine I have researched all have a similar type of target audience;
mainly middle aged, fairly wealthy females. Therefore my magazine will be
produced to suit this certain type of target audience. I want the magazine
to appeal to this audience by using scenery photos and enhancing my font
and house layout to match the style this audience like. By choosing this
audience it will enhance the choices I make when producing my regional
magazine for example things like colour scheme and composition of
images.
3. Analysis
All the magazines I have research comply to hegemonic rules of horizontally aligned mastheads, this
gives the reader an easy, simply format to follow therefore extracting information straight away and
recognising the masthead.
The use of subheadings, add-ons and banners showing what’s included within the magazine create
enigmas for the audience, reinforcing them to buy the magazine.
The text on the front covers of the magazines I researched were not completely bare (apart from
‘SURREY’) burt had a small amount of text on just to get the reader's attention, therefore this could imply
this audience prefer reading small amounts to get them interesting, just to see if it matches their tastes.
Hegemonic codes were used a lot on regional magazines, these create enigma, I want to include these
when creating my magazine to keep the reader interested and not get bored, They were used a lot on
front covers however using them elsewhere will benefit my magazine but keeping my target audience
interested.
4. Leading on...
I Believe for my magazine to look like a real regional magazine shot types are
going to be a huge part. The long shots will help the audience connect and feel
personal as if they’re actually there, however close ups also hold a key importance
as they show a lot of detail, and therefore make the reader look and take the
image in more. Both of these will play key roles within my magazine.
5. My Audience
My audience will consist of mainly women aged between the ages of 25-40, even
though this is quite a large age range there are many similarities between the
audiences; therefore I can mix the two together and create the best outcome for
my target audience.
Even though the main gender target is females, I want to give males a part within
the magazine as well so I will try and cater for both genders this will this will make
my target audience even wider. I will do this by using different colour schemes and
different photographs to give both genders the satisfaction from my magazine.
6. Applying to my work
For me to find the best way to produce this magazine and for help with decision
making I will need the help of focus groups and questionnaires; this way i can
adjust everything to suit my target audience.
For these reasons I have set up a focus group to help me get the best possible
outcome of my magazine. This way I can get the opinions from my target
audience and they can let me know what they like/dislike therefore I can change
the magazine accordingly.
