permanent change in behavior that
occurs through experience
Definition - Learning
 According to Garrett , learning is that activity by
virtue of which we organize our responses with new
habits
 To quote Woodworth , “ An activity may be called
learning in so far as it develops the individual in any
way , good or bad and makes his environment and
experience different from what it would otherwise
have been”
Learning – Nature and meaning
 Learning is adaptation or adjustment.
 The acquisition of knowledge.
 Learning is improvement.
 Learning leads to development.
 Learning leads to maturation.
 A process by which behaviour is changed, shaped or
controlled.
 All learning is goal directed

Domains Of Learning
Benjamin Bloom has suggested three domains of
learning:
 Cognitive – To recall, calculate, discuss, analyze,
problem solve, etc.
 Psychomotor – To dance, swim, ski, dive, drive a car,
ride a bike, etc.
 Affective – To like something or someone, love,
appreciate, fear, hate, worship, etc.
Basic Learning Principles
Learning depends upon three conditions
 The readiness to learn
 The ability to learn
 The learning environment

  • 3. Learning Learning is a systematic relatively permanent change in behavior that occurs through experience
  • 4. Definition - Learning  According to Garrett , learning is that activity by virtue of which we organize our responses with new habits  To quote Woodworth , “ An activity may be called learning in so far as it develops the individual in any way , good or bad and makes his environment and experience different from what it would otherwise have been”
  • 5. Learning – Nature and meaning  Learning is adaptation or adjustment.  The acquisition of knowledge.  Learning is improvement.  Learning leads to development.  Learning leads to maturation.  A process by which behaviour is changed, shaped or controlled.  All learning is goal directed  Learning is universal and continues
  • 6. Characteristics of leaning  Learning is purposeful  Learning take place through experience  Learning have a wide scope  Learning is a social orientation

Five Principles of Learning  Participation: involve trainees, learn by doing  Repetition: repeat ideas & concepts to help people learn  Relevance: learn better when material is meaningful and related  Transference: to real world using simulations  Feedback: ask for it and adjust training methods to audience.
  • 12. Domains Of Learning Benjamin Bloom has suggested three domains of learning:  Cognitive – To recall, calculate, discuss, analyze, problem solve, etc.  Psychomotor – To dance, swim, ski, dive, drive a car, ride a bike, etc.  Affective – To like something or someone, love, appreciate, fear, hate, worship, etc.
