3. PRACTICAL AND TECHNICAL PROBLEMS
SOFTWARE
From my years in college and sixth form I've learned that software can be on of the most temperamental and time
consuming issues that can completely ruin a project in a matter of seconds. I will be using InDesign, photoshop and
possibly other software like lightroom, premier etc. since these are all software that requires a subscription to use and I
am likely to be doing this project from home there will be a lot of possible issues with money, what I can afford, being
able to keep the subscription for long enough to do my project and general things like if my low quality PC can run these
software the same way a Mac in college would be able to, if it can even run it at all. These issues could completely stop
my project all together. In college there are similar issues, the macs in college sometimes will just not let me use the
adobe collection, this is an issue that they aren’t going to fix so I will have to find a solution to this myself.
Solving from home: to solve this issue from home I will have to make sure I have enough money ready to pay for the
subscription to the adobe collection for when I am going to make my project. I have got a free trial for now to see whether
or not my PC could run all of the software, by doing this I have found that I will be able to do everything I need to do on
my PC from home (that’s as long as I don’t have to export any 4K videos as that wasn’t a good result). I will also make
sure I remember all of my passwords and log ins to my software as that could cause issues.
Solving from college: the college issues are slightly out of my hands, the college macs have a lot of issues that haven’t
been solved in years so I don’t think anyone will be actively trying to fix those, some I have experienced are. My adobe
account saying I don’t have access to anything. Photoshop and premier not working. Applications needing updates which
students cannot authorise etc. the easiest solution to this would simply be for the college to fix the macs but I cannot
actively do anything about that so instead I will use the additional free software I talked about in my vlog in the instance
I cant use real adobe software because of the macs, this will only be short term while the issue is fixed hopefully but will
at least give me something I can do rather than wait around.

4. PRACTICAL AND TECHNICAL PROBLEMS
Power
Power issues will really only be things like power
cuts, things running out of power or plugs not being
plugged in. some issues I could face are cameras I
take out running out of battery leaving me with a
dead camera. A power cut turning my PC off and
making me lose any amount of work, or me kicking
the plug out by accident turning my computer off
and again losing me work.
Solving from home and from college: Since I will be
using a desktop PC in both college and my house I
can talk about both these issues at once. I will have
to be careful to avoid the plug with my feet and
make sure it is all the way in. regularly save every 5
or so minutes in case of a power cut and bring spare
fully charged batteries when bringing things like
cameras and phones outside.
Backup
Backed up files can be as much of an issue as not backing
up files at all. Some files can go missing, get corrupted or
lost in a sea of files and memory sticks. Some issues I
regularly face are when I create multiple backups of them
and then end up not knowing which is the most up to date
backup or losing the most recent backup completely in the
sea of backups I have.
Solving from home and from college: solving this could be
very easy if I have 2 labelled memory sticks and a cloud
storage of some sort, I could use the memory sticks for 2
things, one for written work, power points, word docs etc.
and the second memory stick for practical work. On these I
could make files with the date on them and what I have
done, this way I will be able to go back to every day and
find exactly what I was up to at this point and I will easily
be able to see what my most recent work was. This will be
the same at both college and home and allow me to bring
my work between them while also having work stored on a
cloud on the off chance the memory sticks break or
something similar.

5. PRACTICAL AND TECHNICAL PROBLEMS
Working From Home
Working from home could cause a lot of issues for me,
the biggest being that I am in a house where I am asked
to do a lot of things if I am at home, no one will
understand that I have a full time college course as I
am at home all the time so I will have content
distraction and people telling me to do other things. I
cant stop any of this from happening so I will have to
find a way to do the work around this
Solving issues from home: to solve this issue I will have
to do college work on more than just the 3 days when we
have online class, as I wont be able to really have a set
schedule the same way I would in the actual college
building I will have to do a lot of hours but more spread
apart to accommodate college and my family
Electronic Equipment
I will need to use various pieces of electrical equipment when making my product, the
main ones being my computer, camera, phone, printer/scanner and lighting. There
are many issues that may come with this, the main ones being power, connection and
access. Without power I wont be able to use any of the equipment, without access to
things like a printer or scanner I will be having to spend time locating the thing I
need in a place where I am okay to use it. Without connection to things like Wi-Fi or
printers I wont be able to get things done either so these are all possible issues. When
going out to take pictures of people in public I will have to pack multiple pieces of
electrical equipment, these will ne my phone, camera and possibly a portable charger
and lighting, there are a lot off issues that I could come across by bringing these
things out with me as I wont have access to internet, power outlets or even shelter
which could all cause massive issues, I ran into some of these before when I used a
college camera, I brough it out to film only to realise halfway through that the battery
was very low and the weather was starting to rain ,as there is no way to cover a
camera from the rain outside I had to give up filming for that day as I didn’t want the
electrical camera to get wet and break
Solving issues from home:
To solve my issue from home I will have to try and ensure I have places where I can
use printers and scanners as usually I would just use the college ones, luckily I have
friends that have these and im sure I could use them if I abide by covid regulations.
My biggest issue working from home may be finding a camera I can use and then all
the things that go with it as I wont have multiple batteries of a protective rain proof
case or even a charging wire. To solve this I will again have to look and ask around to
try and find these and borrow them from people or college, if I am able to bring a
waterproof case, spare batteries that are fully charged and also a portable charger in
case something runs out I should be completely fine. Another issue I could face is
memory on the camera so to solve this I would just have to make sure that the
memory card I have is wiped and can hold all of the pictures I am going to take. My
issues ot do with wifi and connection all should be okay however as I have a lot of 4G
and would be able to spend multiple days without using wifi, and my phone and
computer have never had any issues connecting to printers/scanners etc.
Solving from college:
The issues I may have at college are a lot less extreme and will centre around me
being able to take out a camera from the college and use it for my project, and making
sure I can use the printer/scanner which should be completely fine as long as it isn’t
broken. Ifn both of these cases the only way I could plan around these is by having
another camera and printer I could use if it came down to it so I will ask around to
see who has one I could use if worse comes to worst.

6. PRACTICAL AND TECHNICAL PROBLEMS
Capability :
Capability wouldn’t normally be an issue, however considering the possibility I will be making this product at home is becoming
more and more likely, there is a risk that comes with all of this and it is that I am not capable of making a full 30 page magazine +
work to go with it from home with no help from a teacher. Its easy enough to say that working from home is exactly the same as
college and it isn’t an excuse but in practicality it is a lot harder to stay focussed get work done, know if the work is good or not
and just attend and do the bare minimum, for some people like me speaking to teachers is incredibly useful and necessary to get
work done but is impossible to do from home, partly because I am not comfortable messaging and asking for support and partly
because I require help in person to actually understand it so I am making this whole project in my room with no indication if I'm
in over my head or not. This could end up in multiple bad ways, the biggest being the stress is overbearing and I give up on all of
the project and just don’t do anything or the opposite being I put all of my heart and soul into something that is just completely
wrong because I misunderstood what was being asked of me and everything I create is worthless. These are very big and very
possible issues and from what I can tell we are being graded just as harshly under these circumstances so trying to find a medium
of showing my skills and capabilities while also not striving for too much will be very hard
To solve:
To plan for this I will have to try to get in contact with my tutor when I need help and use all of the things I have been given like
the online lessons. I will also have to try and find a good place to aim for that isn’t too hard but shows what I can really do and
then I should be able to get the best grade possible.

7. PRACTICAL AND TECHNICAL PROBLEMS
Health :
My health has been quite an issue while doing this project and has resulted in me losing around 3 weeks of working time, I have
been in and out of hospital with my stomach and liver. These issues have set me back quite substantioally and have put me in a
place where I am behind everyone else and there isn’t anything I can do about it other than work more and more days.
To solve:
To solve this there isn’t much I can do other than ask for an extension and try to get as much work done as I can when I am
feeling okay.

8. THEORETICAL
PROBLEMS
Covid
Covid will always have
possible issues mainly
around lockdowns,
because my project
relies a lot on taking
pictures of people, a
national lockdown
doesn’t help at all. The
only solution to this
would be to get all of
my pictures as soon as
lockdown is lifted and
then I will have them
secured in the event
another lockdown is
announced
Deadline
The deadline will only
become an issue if I get
behind but as you can see
by my previous slide I am
behind so the deadline
could cause a whole array
of issues and cause my
work to not be handed in
complete or at a standard I
am happy with. To solve
this I will have to schedule
and make sure I am getting
work done by specific time
frames so that everything
will be ready for the
deadline.
Locations
I shouldn’t have to
many issues with
locations other than
if I plan to do a
shoot somewhere
and then find out
the location is
inaccessible, this
will be easy to plan
around as I can
make a list of
ulterior locations to
use in the event one
is unavailable
Models
I am making a fashion
magazine so models
will play a big part in
my content. I may
encounter some issues
with models, primarily
if they cancel or cannot
make the appointments
we choose to take
pictures, to solve this
problem I can just keep
some backup models
and then I will always
have a backup if the
first model cannot
make it.
