Gm Foods Persuasive Speech
Good Morning Friends, I m Barnaby Joyce, the Deputy Prime Minister of Australia and the Minister
for Agriculture and Water Resources. As an Australian, a rural Australian, I encourage you to support
our local products, but it is more than patriotism involved here, local products are clean, clear and
most importantly, organic fresh produce. The essence of my speech today is to convey the hidden truth
behind Genetically Modified Foods, more oftenly portrayed as GM Foods. You might be asking; what
is this Genetically Modified Foods, well, Genetically Modified Foods are foods with their genes
altered, in other words, scientists remove genes from the DNA of a particular organism, for example a
rat, THEN recombine it with the DNA of the plant they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Food allergies have skyrocketed, disorders such as autism and diseases in our reproductive and
digestive are also clearly evident. It s been confirmed that GMOs are a contributing factor to all these
illnesses. Why continue eating foods with chemicals injected into them, when we have the availability
as well as the opportunity to enjoy and eat organic fresh produces that s packed with both flavours and
nutrients. Did you know that, GM crops can harm birds, insects, soil organisms, and marine
ecosystems; This might not seem like a BIG DEAL to us at the start, but in reality, it should be:
interrupting the niche of a single organism DEMOLISHES the whole food chain, this means; that it
will be OUR children, that will have to pay the price for what WE have all created during our
generation. There have been fairy tales floating around, saying, GMO S increase yield and help feed a
hungry world. As the deputy prime minister of Australia, I alert you to the fact that, GMOs DO NOT
increase yield, in fact they work AGAINST feeding a hungry world. According to the Australian
Institute of Food Research, NON GM Foods used in developing countries have resulted in yield
increases of more than 80%. ALSO, it is time we understood the fact that, starvation is NOT caused by
a lack of food! World

My Love Of My Life
I started laughing like I d never laugh again in my life. A week ago, I sent a recording of my voice for
the audition for the Christmas duet and now I got the position for it. And my partner is James Brown!
He is the most charming person I could ever think of. His chocolate colored eyes always sparkled, and
his low manly voice would always melt my insides into a puddle of goo. Finally, I have a chance to
work with him; a chance to see my love of my life. The next day, I went to the music department at
my school with light, bouncy steps. When I went in the room the people inside were staring at me,
baffled. People whispered, as they gave me quick looks. Some gave me cold stares. I sat on the nearest
chair. The chair that was a little too small groaned under my weight. The people looked at empty
spaces, not knowing where to look at. Finally, James came to break the uncomfortable silence. During
break time I rushed to the bathroom. When I came back, I could hear the people talking. What do we
do with her? We can t put her on stage, we ll be a laughing stock, said one. Why don t we put her in
the backstage to sing and have another prettier girl to lip sync on stage? It s the best way out of this,
suggested another. But who s going to tell her this? There was no answer. I couldn t listen anymore. I
understood, they couldn t put me on stage because of my appearance. There were hardly any clothes
that fit me, my eyes were small, my thick dry lips had skin peeling off,

The Importance Of Imperialism In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of...
It has been argued that humans are mere products of their environment. In the era of imperialism,
artists argued that the nations were breeding grounds for corruption and greed. To illustrate this,
several artists, such as Joseph Conrad, utilized the victimized frontiers to display the injustices that
were happening. Conrad s Heart of Darkness uses the African environment s wildness and symbolic
darkness to demonstrate that imperialism s lack of moral restraints will result in one s environment
exploiting the evils hidden in their heart.
A symbol itself, the Congo River served as a catalyst that carried Marlow s idealistic mindset into the
heart of the dark jungle. In the river, one found that they were bewildered and cut off from everything
[they] had known once because the waterway ran on... into the gloom of overshadowed distances ,
which resulted in moments when one s past came back... in the shape of an unrestful and noisy dream
(Conrad 61). Marlow s prejudiced mindset against the natives originally presented an imperialistic
mindset of saving subhumans, however, his ideas clashed with an enigma of the living past, which
warped all ideas of reality. The Congo river blurred Marlow s reality to present the ultimate point that
imperialistic enlightenment could not compete with the deep rooted cultures of Africa s past. Although
Marlow initially took interest in Africa because of its blank space as the place where the merry dance
of death and trade goes on , he had to

Concert Analysis Of A Concert
The concert that I attended was played by Michael Kirkendoll on Wednesday, November 8 at Beall
Concert Hall. Kirkendoll played two pieces during the performance. The first was called Marriage,
Mile 55 From the Road, which talked about the disturbing tale of a man that explains how he
murdered his wife. The second piece, De Profundis, talked about a distal longing for love from a
homosexual man who was arrested because of who he loved. The first piece, Marriage, Mile 55 From
the Road, was played as a piano solo, with other forms of instrumentation coming from Kirkendoll
using his voice including both lyrical dictation and simple sound effects. He also used the piano as a
percussion instrument and a string instrument by slapping and hitting the wooden sides and reaching
over into the belly of the piano and plucking the strings like a guitar. There was not a specific tempo
used for this song, as it changed many times because the lyrical parts. Many times, the lyrics would
dictate tempo. Dissonance was used mainly because of the minor notation. This fit perfectly into the
horror theme that the composer was trying to express in his work. There was not a defined tempo as
Kirkendoll changed the timing in order to build suspense and further the plot. To my untrained ears,
Kirkendoll sounded like he was jumping around on the keyboard rather than keeping a specific tempo.
The music being played was complex to play, but especially hard to understand. The song Marriage,

A Brief Introduction on Judicial Review in the United...
A Brief Introduction on Judicial Review in the United States
Part I: A Brief Introduction on Judicial Review
Judicial review is the doctrine in democratic theory under which legislative and executive actions are
subject to review, and possible invalidation, by the judiciary. Specific courts with judicial review
power must annul the acts of the state when it finds them incompatible with a higher authority, such as
the terms of a written constitution. Judicial review is an example of the functioning of separation of
powers in a modern governmental system (where the judiciary is one of three branches of
government). This principle is interpreted differently in different jurisdictions, which also have
differing views on the different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Raub(1825).Other debates and controversies followed. But Marbury v. Madison has been ratified by
time and practice and has become a cornerstone of the larger constitutional system
Marbury, of course, stands only for the proposition that judges can declare acts of Congress invalid. In
subsequent cases Marshall asserted that judges could also declare invalid executive orders or actions
(Little v. Barreme, 1804 ) and upheld the Judiciary Act of 1789, under which Congress gave the
Supreme Cour power to review and reserve decisions upholding the constitutionality of state statutes
(Martin v. Hunter s Lessee, 1816;Cohens v. Virginia, 1821). Taken collectively, these cases provide
federal judges with impressive tools for monitoring governmental actions, tools that they have not
always been hesitant to use. Through the end of the 1990s, the Supreme Court has invalidated nearly
140 federal statutes and some 1,200 local laws . State courts too, with their own power to strike down
acts passed within their jurisdiction, are active monitors of their governments. One scholar estimates
that state justices invalidate nearly 25 percent of all laws challenged in their court rooms.
Through judicial review, state courts determine whether or not state executive acts or state statutes are
valid. They base such rulings on the principle that a state law that violates the U.S. constitution is
invalid. They also decide the constitutionality of state laws under

Time In The Play Our Town
If a book were to tell someone s life, how could you tell if it was the next day or the next year?
Usually authors have different strategies to give readers an idea of how much time has passed.
However, this is especially harder in plays because the perception of time to readers is mainly
dependent on the verbal script of the characters. In the play Our Town by Thornton Wilder, his usage
of the concept of time is incorporated by major life events such as their life as children, the wedding
and a funeral with the help of the stage manager and the title of the acts.
To begin with the play is essentially about the lives of two neighboring families, the title of the first
act Daily lives is appropriate and telling of the beginning of the play. In the beginning of Act one it
basically introduces the readers to the characters . The families are getting their kids ready for school
and the mothers meet with each other. The use of school and their morning routine ... Show more

The major life events are summed up that way because that s what life in the town consisted of
growing up, getting married then die. The play on time by the author truly shows how many take their
time alive for granted and how quickly it goes by. Such as when she chose to relive a day and she
noticed how everyone wasn t really taking everything in and enjoying themselves. The stage manager
was the key tool in translating the authors perspective of time to the readers and the acts being few
kind of shows how quickly and empty her life was. In a nutshell she was just a young girl, then got
married and died. The message I personally got from the play was to live life to the fullest because I
personally wouldn t want three relatively short acts to describe my life from start to

Essay Religion in American Politics
The United States of America has the most diverse religious population in the world. In places like
Iraq, Syria, Israel, Afghanistan, Yemen, and other countries too numerous to mention, countless lives
are lost over religious differences. In America, a Protestant can live happily next door to a Jew, who
might live across the street from a Muslim, or a Catholic, or a Sikh, or even a Humanist! This is in no
small way attributed to the fact that the US Constitution s First Amendment includes what is known as
the establishment clause, which states that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of
religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, effectively separating affairs of religious institutions
from secular, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was starting to look as if politics were beginning to become more secular. As it is well known, after
Kennedy s assassination, Lyndon B. Johnson carried out the rest of Kennedy s term, and then ran for
reelection in 1964. Johnson, a left leaning Democrat found himself up against Barry Goldwater from
the right minded Republican Party. Early on in the 20th century, many of Protestant denominations
had adopted progressive, social reformist doctrines, that many people still value to this day. Despite
being Protestant, Goldwater s platform took a much more conservative approach. This ended up
backfiring on him, however, as many Christian publications stated that they opposed Goldwater s
policies. He was further stigmatized by the religious publication The Christian Century as turning his
patriotic rhetoric into religious nationalism. To make matters worse for Goldwater, in October of 1964,
less than a month before the general election, 725 Episcopalian clergy and laymen from forty one
states signed a resolution accusing him of a transparent exploitation of racialism. Richard Nixon, a
Republican and ex Vice President at the time, claimed that these allegations were the most vicious in
political history. As a result, Lyndon Johnson won the 1964 election in an unprecedented landslide
victory, with Barry Goldwater only winning six states: his native Arizona, and five states in the heart
of the Bible Belt (Kosmin 1993:174 5). While religious leaders in the end

Social Class And Socio-Economic Class
Socio economic class has an extensive social influence on language variation (Meyerhoff and Schleef,
2010 pg. 392). Individuals of higher socio economic class typically have a greater income in which
can be further invested in higher education. Consecutively, those who are educated tend to use more of
the standard form of language and in contrast, speakers with lower educational levels tend to use more
of the non standard language (Meyerhoff and Schleef, 2010 pg. 415). Among the various social
classes of the socio economic hierarchy, the use of standard and non standard forms of language can
vary greatly. The data from Trudgill (1995) demonstrates the percentage of appearances of three non
standard variants ((ng): [n], (t): [?], (h): [0]) in 5 socio economic classes in the UK. What is defined as
a social class depends on many different factors. Occupation, home value, personal wealth, aspirations
to social mobility and various other factors need to be considered when determining one s social class.
The levels in the hierarchy of social class are also affected depending on the region. In the adapted
Trudgill study (1995) that took place in the UK, the socio economic classes that they observed were
the middle middle class (MMC), lower middle class (LMC), upper working class (UWC), middle
working class (MWC) and LWC (LWC). The Trudgill study (1995) demonstrates the usage of non
standard variants in the UK that differ significantly across the social classes. The current analysis of
data adapted from Trudgill (1995) investigates the differences between the social classes and their
varying association with the usage of the three non standard variants in the UK.
Trudgill s hierarchy of social classes in the UK include 5 social classes: MMC, LMC, UWC, MWC
and LWC. Within these social classes there are many differences. According to Trudgill (1995), the
MMC highly value education and culture and is politically and socially engaged. Individuals within
this class typically are employed as doctors, accountants, social workers or managers. The LMC tend
to live in the suburbs and are employed in service industry jobs or in regional government. Among the
working class, the UWC may be tradesmen or work in industrial jobs. The

The Teleological Argument for God s Existence Essay
The Teleological Argument for God s Existence
The teleological argument is also known as the argument from design. It is the idea that our world and
the universe surrounding it are so intricate that it could not happen by accident, it was designed.
William Paley put forward perhaps the most famous version of this with the watchmaker argument.
Imagine you live on a desolate desert island and one day you come across a watch. By looking at it
and examining, the intricate and complicated mechanisms you would conclude that it was designed by
an intelligent designer. A watch could not happen by chance. Lets apply that logic to things in our own
universe.
The mechanics of our hands are very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some argue the earth could not happen by chance. The probability of the Big Bang creating a perfect
world is minuscule, 1 in a million. However, if we think of all the planets in our universes that are not
sustaining life then it does not seem so improbable.
Back to this perfect watch , its not perfect. It does not automatically adjust the time when the clocks
go forward. Instead it spitefully ticks away knowing that you will be late for work. Alternatively, does
it remember leap years? Does it give you an apology? No because it is a mean and uncaring watch.
Our world is much like this watch, its imperfect. It is rude and selfish. People are staving and we are
sitting here stuffing our faces. Our amazing hands are not so amazing after all, they wear out, muscles
and bones break. Surely, an intelligent designer would design us with out these faults.
It is not just us with these faults. Meteorites crash into planets, the sun will one day plunge us into
darkness if its heat has not dried us out and we could be sucked into a black hole.
You could say nobodies perfect , but God, by definition, is a perfect being. If God created the
universe, it would have to be perfect. David Hume believes that the universe does not have to be
created by a perfect being merely an intelligent one.
The idea that God sat down and designed then made organisms like

Why Evolution Is True Summary
Why Evolution is True Book Review
A majority of the population falls prey to the idea of creationism and its relative, intelligent design,
however these concept s when mentioned lack substantial evidence. Darwin s theory of evolution by
which life on earth evolved by natural selection, is vast and contains a variety of splendid scientific
validation. Jerry Coyne the author of Why Evolution is True explains that despite Darwin s lack of
knowledge on DNA and genetics his original theory as stated in The Origin , are the fundamental
blocks for the modern theory of evolution. The topic of evolution when discussed evokes much
emotion, this is because Holy literature not only has been the law of the land for centuries but also
serves as a road ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most important evidence of evolution is found beneath our feet. In chapter two Coyne opens up
with a quote form Charles Darwin: The Crust of the earth is vast museum; but the natural collection
have been made only at intervals of time immensely remote. The fossil record provides some of the
best evolutionary evidence. Utilizing fossils has been around for hundreds of years. All fossils are
formed the same way, needing a specific group of circumstances to occur. The organism must find
their way into water, sink to the bottom and get quickly covered by sediment so that they don t decay
or get scattered by scavengers. These rare circumstances are why a majority of fossil records are
complete. The first 80 percent of the history of life were soft bodied organisms not containing any
bone or teeth. This is why there is no evolutionary record of the origin of life. To this day we only
have fossil evidence for about 1 percent of all species that have ever lived on earth. Although these
records do not contain a good representation of life on earth, fossils can be utilized to display
evolutionary patterns. Proof that evolution occurs can be found in the rocks. In 2004 Neil Shubin
found a transitional form between fish and amphibian called Tiktaalik roseae. What is so important
about Tiktaalik is that he was not only a transitional organism but he was found in the right age of
rocks. Scientist use rocks and

Isadora Duncan And Modern Dance
Isadora Duncan was born on May 26th 1877 in San Francisco, California. She became a known
dancer and instructor, and she influenced dance techniques today. She was one of the people who
came up with dancing in a natural way, unlike modern ballet, allowing the performer to feel right. She
didn t believe that dance should be unnatural to the person s body. She was a great influence to
modern dance.
After her birth in 1877, her father lost his job at a bank in California. Not shortly afterwards, her
parents divorced around 1880. Isadora was raised by her mother Dora who was a piano teacher. This
probably made her feel the music more because she would move her body to the music while they
practiced and didn t have a teacher at that time. Their family not long after moved to Oakland,
California where her mother struggled with making money as a piano instructor. Isadora s dad
returned later and provided a home for his ex wife.
When Isadora was a little girl she studied ballet like Delsarte technique and she studied Burlesque and
automatically fell in love with dance. She didn t like traditional ballet so she made her own style that
was more comfortable. She believed ballet had too many rules. When she was six she began teaching
kids in her neighborhood how to dance. Word was spreading about her class and around age ten her
classes became bigger.
Eventually she dropped out of school at a young age so Duncan and her sister Elizabeth could earn
extra money from teaching a dance

Song Of Roland And Inferno Comparison
The Song of Roland, an epic poem which tells of Charlemagne s excursions into Spain where he was
fighting the Saracens or Muslims, is a good example of militant Christianity. Charlemagne, King of
the Franks, is a militant committed militant Christian, and it is necessary to understand this to make
sense of his fighting the Saracens. As a militant Christian, one of his main goals was to convert others
to Christianity. This opportunity presented itself when Marsilla, leader of the Muslims, offered to
convert to Christianity if Charlemagne stopped attacking his men. The messenger sent to inform
Marsilla actually revengefully betrayed Charlemagne, and thus brought about the defeat and death of
the men making up the rear guard of Charlemagne s army. Roland, the leader of the rear guard died a
martyr and was taken directly to heaven by angels. In the story, the Christians are seen as good, and
the Saracens or Muslims are considered evil. The Christians, whose belief is that good will always
triumph over evil in the end, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of these are more evident than others. Both works are the same literary style, epic poems. Only
Inferno is written in the first person. Both are considered to be based on Christian beliefs and values.
Both works focus on righteous and just living leading to heaven or eternal life; The Song of Roland
has a stronger emphasis on this point. Inferno, however, has a strong emphasis on sin and the
punishment which accompanies the sin; there are examples of sins and their punishments. Both works
state that evil or sin is contradictory to God s will. The Song of Roland has a strong message about
good always prevailing over evil and about God being on the side of good. The story makes the point
about a person having free will to choose, but also that God does intervene sometimes to be sure that
good prevails over evil. This message is not found in

Attending School Year
The winter weather in the U.S. can be very unpredictable, and can disrupt school for any period of
time. The southern most states generally don t have to worry about it, but anything can happen as you
travel farther north. I have had first hand experience with crazy winter weather since I live in
Michigan. In past years my school has been close to extending the school year, but have never actually
had to do so. I believe if there has been a very significant amount of school canceled then a
combination of actions should be taken.
First, a certain amount of extra school should be added on to the year if the winter was severe enough,
but should not exceed a week or maybe two. The reason the school year should not exceed two extra
weeks is because motivation of students would decline drastically. If a school were to exceed two
weeks, I believe the students would be so unmotivated that the material that they learned would be
close to useless. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a school were to have an intense winter they should not add days to the year for anything
unnessicary. Doing so would most likely cause students to become unenthusiastic about their school
work.
In conclusion, schools should have the right to extend the school year if a vicious winter caused
cancellations. However, in my opinion, the smartest decision would to cut the days added on to a
reasonable amount for the students sake. In doing so. schools could successfully catch up on lost time
without sacrificing student

The Parable Of The Alert Servant Made Simple Essay
The Parable of the Alert Servant Made Simple (Mark 13:33 37)
By Matthew Payne
Jan 11, 2012
Mark 13:33 37 reads:
Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. It is like a man going out to a far
country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded
the doorkeeper to watch. Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is
coming in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning lest, coming
suddenly, he find you sleeping. And what I say to you, I say to you all: Watch!
Throughout the New Testament, Jesus shared all about the signs of the time. He had been sharing that
there will be false Christs and there will be tribulation. The stars of Heaven will fall and all sorts of
things will happen before the coming of the end of days.
Jesus is much more than a wonderful person. While reading or listening to these parables, I hope you
will fully understand who He is and what is really going on. Today, Jesus has in fact gone to a far
country. This is no longer a parable. While it is true that when Jesus was on earth, this was a parable
with a funny significance, He had not yet gone to that far country but now Jesus has gone away. It
says just before this, concerning the day of his second coming, of that day no one knows, not even the
angels in Heaven nor the Son, but only the Father.
I have heard many recent accounts of people who have met Jesus in Heaven, and

Myrtle Wilson And Macbeth
The paths of greed and vanity will always lead to one s downfall. The character of Myrtle Wilson from
the novel The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Lady Macbeth from the play Macbeth
by William Shakespeare both successfully demonstrate the deadly sin of greed through their immoral
actions to gain their own personal desire for wealth and power, eventually leading to their downfall.
To begin, the character of Myrtle Wilson carries out an affair with Tom Buchanan to obtain

In comparison, Lady Macbeth illustrates the deadly sin of greed through her strong desire to become
Queen of Scotland. In the play Macbeth , Lady Macbeth learns of Macbeth s prophecy through a letter
that claims he will become King. Lady Macbeth states, Lady Macbeth: Hie thee hither, that I may pour
my spirits in thine ear; and chastise with the valor of my tongue, all that impedes thee from the golden
round. (Shakespeare 1.5.28 31) Lady Macbeth is now aware of her husband s prophecy, and
immediately desires all the power and added benefits that come with her husband being King.
Likewise, Lady Macbeth is characterized as a greedy individual by wanting Macbeth to take any
action necessary to become King so she may become Queen. She discovers that Macbeth s first two
prophecies have already come true, and is quick to take action so the third prophecy will come true. To
add on, Lady Macbeth uses a metaphor to express her desire to Macbeth pour my spirits in thine ear ,
she wants to inform Macbeth of her plan to murder King Duncan so Macbeth may become King; this
illustrates that Lady Macbeth is willing to commit an immoral action to gain power. In addition, Lady
Macbeth realizes that Macbeth lacks the courage to commit murder to immediately obtain the golden
round referring to the crown; therefore she manipulates him by insulting him, motivated by her

Lol West Essay
NL West The NL West is a riveting division which produced two playoffs teams last year; although
four can be considered to have a shot this season, at least one of those four will disappoint. The
Dodgers have won the division each of the last four years and will likely win it again this season.
They have both a dynamite lineup and a light em up rotation, but were plagued by injuries last season
and have numerous players who are injury risks this year. Their ace is Clayton Kershaw, who has been
an all star for six consecutive seasons and the NL Cy Young winner thrice; in one of those years he
won the NL MVP as well. Rich Hill pitched superbly last season when he was on the mound, but he
gets injured way too often. Kenta Maeda pitched well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They have a good rotation with a lot of polarity Madison Bumgarner is one of the best pitchers in the
world, and Johnny Cueto is not far behind. However, Jeff Samardzija is not nearly as good as he used
to be, Matt Moore isn t good, and Matt Cain has been injured and horrendous as of late. Their bullpen
was absolutely horrific last season, blowing 32 saves in the regular season and playoffs. Behind
Melancon they are supremely deficient; Hunter Strickland and Derek Law are awful. Their lineup is
solid, led by Brandon Belt, Buster Posey, Hunter Pence, and Brandon Crawford. Pence has been got
progressively worse over the past few years and is well past his prime, on top of the fact that he carries
an albatross injury concern, and the same is true for Denard Span. Their weakest point is the outfield;
injuries to Span and Pence could be a killer. The Giants have the potential to make the playoffs, and
they could catch the Dodgers if everything goes right, but they are the likeliest of the five teams I
predict to make the playoffs to come up short. The Diamondbacks will rely heavily on their offense in
their attempt to make a playoff push, but will need everything to go right to get them there. Several
changes were made in the offseason, including making Torey Lovullo their skipper, snagging Mike
Hazen from Boston to be their GM, and numerous important acquisitions, all in an effort to

The Comparison Of Eros And Energy By William Blake
Now that the definitions of Eros and Energy have been clarified, its essential to explore the apparent
similarities that both terms hold. Both Eros and Energy associate with this creative energy that exist in
the elaborate confines of our mental facilities and both harbor opposing force that suppresses them to
which Freud and Blake find this suppression of desire to be harmful for the individual. From direct
quotation, it is proven that libido is a manifestation of the power of Eros (Freud 109). As previously
mentioned, libido then is the source of desire that becomes this creative energy though sublimation
and this powers the creative pursuits that develop civilization. This mirror s William Blake s Energy
since both contain a similar source of desire. Blake s view on Energy being a desire comes out when
he describes Energy to be restrained, it by degrees becomes passive, till it is only a shadow of Desire
(Blake 5). From this Blake admits that Energy in a sense a form of desire that every individual has.
Blake doesn t stop at this as he sees the importance of this desire to be executed. This is realized
thought his Proverbs of Hell, where he reveals, Sooner murder an infant in its cradle than nurse
unacted desires (Blake 10). Blake is conveying the significance of acting on desires and this
showcases the extent of his belief. Considering Blake has compared unacted desires to the murder of
an infant. Correlating the value of a life to be less of an

Essay about Richard as an Anti-hero
Richard as an Anti hero:
To what extent does Richard embody this archetype?
In William Shakespeare s play, Richard III, Richard is portrayed as physically deformed and
psychologically affected. It is believed that his inner soul is a reflection of his physical deformities.
Richard is considered as the protagonist of this play, however this is highly contradictive. A
protagonist is the hero of the story who exhibits characteristics of courage and perseverance, and is
admired for their brave deeds as well as their noble qualities. Richard however, contradicts the
character portrayal of a hero and demonstrates himself as the exact opposite: an anti hero. The play
opens up with Richard s, (Duke of Gloucester) soliloquy: I am determined to ... Show more content on

Richard says to Lady Anne: Your beauty was the cause of the effect:
Your beauty, that did haunt me in my sleep
To undertake the death of all the world,
So I might live one hour in your sweet bosom (1.2.126 129)
Richard takes a huge risk, handing Anne a knife and demanding she take away his life for he had
murdered both her father and husband. He insists to her it is only fair that she take his life in response.
Lady Anne rejects, falling for Richard s trap for she accepts his proposal of love. Richard succeeds in
manipulation. In the scene, Richard plays the role of a lover who will provide Anne with the emotional
support she would need; especially after suffering two loses. By persuading and manipulating Lady
Anne, Richard was able to get what he was really after; the power and a truce with the house of
Lancaster. This method of persuasion and manipulation are the basic fundamentals that Richard uses
on those he sees as useful in accomplishing his devilish deeds.
Family, loyalty, trust and marriage are some of the values and traditions that Richard ignores. Richard
acts like a caring brother (to Clarence), devoted lover, the innocent who is unjustly accused, a pious
man of God and the simple fellow who is too modest to become King (Cambridge 235). I will deliver

Power In America
Power is in the people The overall theme that has shown itself in all the textual artifacts is, Power is in
people. In moving west for gold and exploration, growth in the literal Battle of the Sexes, or the
building of a nation. Unity has brought power to the weak and made them great. Today, Americans
have lost the unity that once built us. We seem to have opened the gates of hell as we let war consume
us and let the People we had once been, crumble and blow away in the wind. Power, it is one of the
most craved feelings of people everywhere. We crave it because it makes us feel as though we are
more important or it gives us someone to look up to. What did settlers do when America was birthed?
They placed George Washington in the highest position of power, the President. Every time something
happens Americans look to a single person to make a change. Except in some circumstances, take the
Mid twentieth century civil rights movement. All those who have been suffering banded together to
make protest against all the wrongs that were done to them. Now America has an equal race/sex
society and things were changed. We became stronger not only as a nation but as people. We could
hold the key to success, just by coming together to make changes and decisions. ... Show more content

One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest Panoptic Analysis
In Ken Kasey s book One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest, a panoptic system is heavily in place in a
psychiatric hospital being run by a charge nurse called Nurse Rachet. Rachet is very mean and
intimidating almost in a sociopathic manner; Rachet threatens to send any misbehaving patients to the
shock shop, where electroconvulsive therapy is presented upon a patient in a torturous manner. Rachet
can also send patients to the lobotomy center, where needles will go down into a patient s eye to
scrape away at their brains as a form of punishment. This puts the patients in fear every moment of the
day as to whether they will be rated out on by other patients and sent to the shock shop or lobotomy

You can physically see and know that she is in the hospital, but you never know when she will read
the logbook, when she will talk to patient and when she will talk to the orderlies. This creates a

ultimately perfect because of other underwritten circumstances such as cruel and unusual punishment.
In a perfect world panopticans have a certain degree of power, with one person being the central
power that sees everything; and has the ultimate control over everyone in the institution. All
panopticans are not perfect though, just like a pyramid or Ponzi scheme; a panoptican in any shape or

power like a cult leader whose cult just collapsed and lost everything. A panoptican will never be the

panoptic institutions does not work the way we think it does. The idea of a circular shaped building, so
that everyone can be watched and kept under constant control; with the fear of getting caught doing
something wrong and being punished. Will fear almost anyone who thinks about it, according to

Why Is Thurgood Marshall Important
Thurgood Marshall was a U.S. Supreme Court justice and civil right propagandist. Therefore,
Marshall earned an important place in American history on the basis of two accomplishments. First, as
legal counsel for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), he
guided the prosecution that devastated the legal groundwork of Jim Crow segregation. Second, as an
associate justice of the Supreme Court and the nation s first black justice. He crafted a particular
jurisprudence distinguishable by uncompromising liberalism, unusual attentiveness to empirical
scrutiny beyond the formalities of law, and an indefatigable willingness to dissent. Thurgood Marshall

choice to warrant the rights of the White citizens, in these two former European colonies. After
accumulating an imposing record of Supreme Court opposition to state sponsored discriminatory
chauvinism, including the landmark Brown v. Board decision in 1954, President John F. Kennedy
appointed Thurgood Marshall to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. While in this
position, he wrote over 150 decisions including support for the rights of immigrants, limiting
government intrusion in cases involving illegal search and seizure, double jeopardy, and right to
privacy issues. Biographers Michael Davis and Hunter Clark note that, none of his 98 majority
decisions was ever reversed by the Supreme Court. In 1965 President Lyndon Johnson appointed
Judge Marshall to the office of U.S. Solicitor General. Before his ensuing nomination to the United
States Supreme Court in 1967, Thurgood won 14 of the 19 cases he maintained before the Supreme
Court, on behalf of the government. Marshall s first victory before the Supreme Court came in
Chambers v. Florida (1940), in which he successfully defended four black men who had been
convicted of murder on the basis of confessions coerced from them by police. Another crucial
Supreme Court victory for Marshall came in the 1944 case of Smith v. Allwright, in which the Court

Warfare has been apart of British history for many centries. During the 1700 s, battles such as The
Battle of Quebec, The Battle of Yorktown, The Battle of Bunker Hill, and The Battle of Ticonderoga

Internet Filters Affecting Educational Research
Problematic
A shocking 37% of educational websites are most likely to be blocked when internet filters are applied
to the school internet. This affects educational research for schools, however, this seems to be
overlooked quite often. With this in mind we should allow schools to provide unfiltered internet
access because online censorship causes educational research to be more strenuous the filters used can
be easily bypassed by a VPN (Virtual Private Network), and having unfiltered internet access prepares
kids for this unfiltered world we prosper in.
When you live in an unfiltered world trying to strain and filter the web isn t a solution in fact, it´s
more of a problem on the same subject as Melinda D. Anderson in her study she stated, ¨If we believe
any technical solution like filtering will keep us totally safe, that is misplaced¨(Anderson). We can t
play pretend and act as if this world is a soft and kid friendly place when, truth be told, its not. This is
important because as i said before, ultimately we live in an unfiltered world and consequently we can t
have internet filters just to hide what s coming, all in all, saying you can t fight the inevitable. ... Show

Magnetic Resonance Imaging Abstract
Abstract NMR is a form of spectroscopy that utilizes external magnetic fields and signals to identify
the chemical structure of organic molecules, creating a gradient image. Through applying an applied
Radio Frequency, the proton is able to flip into higher energy states, and then relax. This process is
recorded by a NMR Spectrometer, and the difference in energy provides it with a certain NMR Signal.
The difference in the magnetic fields of the allows for a gradient image of the area. There are various
types of imaging that are useful for fast imaging or 3D imaging such as Gradient Echo Imaging or
Volume Imaging. Some other applications of the same principles that apply to MRIs mainly relate to
the identification of organic molecules such as Protein Folding and Drug Development. Although MRI
is a relatively safe and harmless process as opposed to other forms of imaging such as X rays, certain
aspects still pose a risk to patients ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the prevalence of Hydrogen atoms the human body, their NMR signals are what allows for the
identification of the molecule. Although not all protons have a spin, the spin on the hydrogen proton
allows it to have its own magnetic field and NMR signal. A key property is the spin of the proton. The
spin of a proton is expressed in ± k (1/2), where k is a coefficient. During the NMR process, an
external magnetic field is applied on the protons, partially polarizing them. This will cause them to all
align in the same orientation, around the magnetic field direction, as it is the easiest to maintain that
position. This is called the Minimum Magnetic Potential Energy. Its other spin state is its high energy
spin state, where it spins in the opposite direction around the magnetic field. The Magnetic Dipole
Moment defines the spin on a proton and is shown with the

Causes Of Tension In Colonial America
Colonial America in the seventeenth century become very independent from England, this caused
tensions politically, socially, religiously and economically. The tensions did not automatically take
place; however, things that weren t considered issues previously became amplified problems as
England tried to tighten their control over the colonies. Having the tensions of social and economic
growth it lead to the Salem Witch trials that occurred in Massachusetts. There was a great amount of
independent growth throughout colonial America, tensions definitely rose as colonial America refused
to allow England to have full control. A major part of the independent growth was the legal system
that America had formed. While they adopted many of the essential elements of the English legal
system, they had major differences in the American legal system (Brinkley, 2012). For example,
punishment was different from England s, instead of prison or the gallows, the Americans took a
different route. The forms of punishment in colonial America was whipping posts, branding iron,
stocks, and the ducking stool (Brinkley, 2012). The colonists thought of law as reflection the divine
will or as a result of natural order, not as an expression of power (Brinkley, 2012). Another growth of
independence was politics in America. The Americans created groups of self government which was
very local and not dependent on the English (Brinkley, 2012). This was not much of an issue for a

The holocaust started in 1933 when hitler was the ruler. At first, Hitler didn t want to kill the Jews he
just wanted them to leave. The Jews didn t want to leave their homes. When hitler start to kill them he

German authorities also targeted others groups because of their race. Other groups were persecuted on
political, ideological, and behavioral grounds, among them Communists, Socialists, Jehovah s

were the primary victims of Nazi racism, other victims included some 200,000 Roma. At least 200,000
mentally or physically disabled patients, mainly Germans, living in institutional settings, were

Political Socialization Is A Particular Type Of Political...
Political Socialization is a particular type of political learning where people develop the attitudes,
values, beliefs, opinions and behaviors that are conducive to becoming a good citizen in their country.
With political socialization there are many factors that are present when these views are formed, many
are very apparent like historical events, and a clear effect such as gender, race, and socio economics
status. My own political views were formed the same way as everybody else were.
Through the first people I came to know, which were my parents. My parents taught me what the
difference between a democrat and a republican were, what role the president plays in our
government, and about our legislative branches which was based around their own views. When
growing up my parents encouraged self respect and individuality so, this taught me to think about
things own my own and how I felt about them. They also taught me how to conduct myself on a day
to day basis. Being taught these things by my parents made me a very open minded person and this
carries over strongly into how I view politics. I tend to focus on the single issues that are on the
forefront and not on which party is proposing them.
This process could be perceived as Good because of the many factors
That are involved in our political culture. Family, education, mass media, and religion are just a few of
the roles that are used in political socialization.

Pitt Panthers Research Paper
With nine national championships, 74 first team All Americans, and 712 all time wins, the Pitt
Panthers have long been one of college football s premier programs. Few schools can rival the players
my dad and grandpa grew up watching, such as Tony Dorsett and Dan Marino. What do they have in
common? Both played at historic Pitt Stadium, home of the Panthers since 1925. This, along with the
iconic Pitt Script logo and their royal blue and mustard yellow color scheme, gave Pitt an
unmistakable identity. However, this all changed when Steve Pederson became the new athletic
director in 1997. After four straight losing seasons, Pederson thought it would be best to put his own
mark on the program by changing the school s colors to navy blue and vegas gold and getting rid of
Pitt s decades old logo. Worst of all, he tore down the 75 year old stadium and replaced it with a new
basketball arena, which alienated him with the entire alumni base and led to decreased support almost
overnight. Following this, Pitt football moved to the newly built Heinz Field, also home to the
Steelers. While this sounds nice in theory, it created a problem: it was off campus. ... Show more

Right now, there s no nostalgic feelings or reliving memories at Heinz Field. On campus stadiums
create a unique setting, as there s a natural relationship between football and campus life. The alums
and fans that come on campus each Saturday would not only give the university a new image, but also
bring in hundreds of new patrons for Oakland s businesses. Many businesses were hurt from the lost
revenue of no Panther football games when they moved in 2000; some even went out of business.
Bringing football back on campus would give them a much needed boost and could help revitalize the
entire neighborhood of

Informed Consent in Healthcare
The Doctor and Patient relationship aspect of Medicine has changed drastically in the last twenty
years. It has evolved from paternalism (the doctor makes the decision for the patient) to shared
decision making where the patient is considered an equal partner in his/her own health related
decisions. Informed consent is the cornerstone for this view. When a patient or a research subject
makes an autonomous decision after understanding, the risks and benefits involved with the decision
is Informed consent. Complete Informed consent covers the following components: competency,
disclosure, comprehension and voluntary. Competency refers to the requirement for the individual to
be of legal age and be mentally competent to understand the process. ... Show more content on

This meaning is subjective and can be different for each provider. Another issue with the
implementation of Informed consent arises when the patient waives the right to Informed consent and
leaves the right to make the decision on the physician. Though legally correct, this can cause
psychological stress for the physician especially when the decision is about a life threatening medical
condition. Moreover, this also makes the patient vulnerable to abuse. (Manthous, DeGirolamo, 2003)
Legally and ethically under Informed consent a patient has the right to refuse specialty treatment or
referral but needs to be informed about the risks involved with delay or lack of the specific treatment
recommended. Mostly, if the patient does agree to visit the specialist then, the specialist is responsible
for the informed consent for the specific treatment. But is has been contested and help in courts that
the primary care physician still is responsible for the patients welfare in all phases of treatment. For a
provider in a busy practice it is difficult to keep track of all the referrals and at times, the specialist s
office has a different outlook on the matter. The learned intermediary doctrine puts the responsibility
of drugs related informed consent unto the physician. This doctrine provides that manufacturers of
prescription drugs and medical devices discharge their duty of care to patients by providing

America Before Columbus And The Columbian Exchange
In modern America, we often take for granted the natural world that surrounds us and the American
culture which is built upon it. For many of us, we give little thought to the food sources that sustain
and natural habitats that surround us because when viewed for what they are, most people assume that
they have simply existed since the country was founded. However, the documentary America Before
Columbus provided this writer an extremely interesting record of how the America we know came to
exist. In the documentary, one of the most interesting discussions centered on the fact that it was not
merely the arrival of conquistadors and colonists that irrevocably changed the landscape of the
Americas, but that it was also the coined term known as the Columbian Exchange that afforded these
travelers the ability to proliferate so successfully. The basic definition of the Columbian exchange is
one that defines the importation of European flora and fauna. It could also loosely represent other
imports, both intended and unintended, such as tools, implements, and even disease. Armed with this
definition, it takes little imagination to envision how differently the Americas might have developed
had any significant amount of the native European flora, fauna, or other unintended import not been
conveyed to the Americas through the Columbian Exchange. Beyond the arrival of explorers, settlers,
and colonists to the New World, the breadth of what the Columbian Exchange represented to

Elementary School Security
Another action that can be taken place is possibly having more security placed on school sites, more
so on elementary and middle schools. Many have seen the extensive security measures that have been
taken on high school campuses such as security guards, officers, Identification cards, etc., but why
aren t these security measures occurring on elementary and middle schools? A possible solution to
solving the security on elementary and middle schools would be providing security guards on these
school sites. There is a concern about a shortage of security guards on campuses, so instead of hiring
security guards school districts could possible hire retired police officers or military. By hiring these
retired officers or military members they would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We need to determine what actions are successful amongst not only the schools and districts, but by
the students, faculty members, and family members since they are the ones that not experience the
mass shootings but are affected by them as well. By comparing and contrasting the different programs
and plans amongst schools and districts throughout the nation, we would have a better idea of what
plans and programs have better outcomes and take the initiative to use those plans and

The Effect Of Light And Total Respiration Of The Plant...
Intro:
For all living organisms including plants, respiration is the process of converting chemical energy into
a usable form of energy (Biol 171L Lab 7). Even if an organism does not have an energy source, they
will keep respiring. For autotrophic plants, the process of obtaining energy is called photosynthesis. It
harvests solar energy, carbon dioxide, and water to form a usable form of energy (Tanaka 2009). The
factors that go into this process includes the pigment the plant possesses, and the intensity,
wavelength, and direction of the light. Plants that contain the pigment chlorophyll a are the ones we
see as the leaves of common trees, or grass.
Because chlorophyll a takes in violet blue, and orange red lights to use in photosynthesis, it reflects
green, and that is the color we see. This study investigates the relationship between the wavelength of
light and the total respiration of the plant Elodea. The purpose is to see the effect of the presence or
absence of certain wavelengths can have on the process of photosynthesis. Because Elodea is a plant
that reflects green light, it can be assumed that red lights, the complimentary color to green will be
absorbed the most contributing to the process of photosynthesis and respiration making the most
oxygen.
Methods:
In this lab, varying wavelengths were used to test how light affects photosynthesis and respiration as a
whole. The absorbance of lights from 380 nm to 720 nm of chlorophyll pigment from the Elodea

Who Is King George III s Personal Life
Personal Life King George III was born June 4, 1738 in London, England; and was the son of Fredrick
Louis who was the prince of Wales. After the death of his father King George still could not take over
the thrown because his grandfather, King George 11, was still in control. Earlier in King Georges
childhood he was a immature teenage boy who was taken care of by his overbearing and protective
mother, Augusta. Augusta thought that the other younger children his age would corrupt his mind so
she would not let him socialize with others. At a young age George was diagnosed with Porphyria,
which is mental disability to the brain. When George was twenty two he went after his grandfather s
place on the thrown. Later on, in 1761 he married Princess Charlotte Sophia of Mecklenburg Strelitz,
Charlotte was a german protestant and couldn t speak english. They soon after had nine sons and six
daughters together. King George III died January 20, 1820 in London, England. What He Did ... Show

He was a strong leader for a time, devoting his attention to law making and supporting his country and
colonies. By 1763 Britain was on top of the world, but the only thing that held them back was their
lack of strong government. So the only thing George felt was right was to put more taxes on the
americans so he could have more money to give to his government and country. As you can guess the
colonists were outraged and tried to contact and resolve in a agreement but King George wouldn t
have it. So the colonists took action and boycotted british goods, which only enraged King George
more. After the Boston Tea Party took place, he placed his foot down and sent the Intolerable Acts to

Evaluation Of A Cooperative Learning Device Essay
For students to receive a more effective and meaningful academic experience, a diverse pedagogical
methodology for enhanced and relevant learning is required. Various strategies are available to engage
adolescent students toward a more fruitful learning experience. The jigsaw method, a cooperative
learning device, is a project based exercise whereby students assume specific roles for content mastery
and conduct tasks with an interdependence on one another for deeper learning on multiple aspects of a
subject toward better comprehension and fully reaching the intended objectives. This strategy is useful
in putting students in an active role while investigating subject matter. It is also a chance for teachers
to allow students to discover and find options to fit their own learning styles and presentational
preferences. Not all teachers prefer this method nor find it most applicable to their discipline,
however. Students often may find that evaluation based on peer project completion is not
representative of their personal abilities. Applied appropriately and accordingly, the jigsaw method has
the potential to create interdisciplinary relevance of the topic, widen a student s breadth of subject
analysis, and change their classroom outlook from dread to enthusiasm.

  • 2. Gm Foods Persuasive Speech Good Morning Friends, I m Barnaby Joyce, the Deputy Prime Minister of Australia and the Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources. As an Australian, a rural Australian, I encourage you to support our local products, but it is more than patriotism involved here, local products are clean, clear and most importantly, organic fresh produce. The essence of my speech today is to convey the hidden truth behind Genetically Modified Foods, more oftenly portrayed as GM Foods. You might be asking; what is this Genetically Modified Foods, well, Genetically Modified Foods are foods with their genes altered, in other words, scientists remove genes from the DNA of a particular organism, for example a rat, THEN recombine it with the DNA of the plant they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Food allergies have skyrocketed, disorders such as autism and diseases in our reproductive and digestive are also clearly evident. It s been confirmed that GMOs are a contributing factor to all these illnesses. Why continue eating foods with chemicals injected into them, when we have the availability as well as the opportunity to enjoy and eat organic fresh produces that s packed with both flavours and nutrients. Did you know that, GM crops can harm birds, insects, soil organisms, and marine ecosystems; This might not seem like a BIG DEAL to us at the start, but in reality, it should be: interrupting the niche of a single organism DEMOLISHES the whole food chain, this means; that it will be OUR children, that will have to pay the price for what WE have all created during our generation. There have been fairy tales floating around, saying, GMO S increase yield and help feed a hungry world. As the deputy prime minister of Australia, I alert you to the fact that, GMOs DO NOT increase yield, in fact they work AGAINST feeding a hungry world. According to the Australian Institute of Food Research, NON GM Foods used in developing countries have resulted in yield increases of more than 80%. ALSO, it is time we understood the fact that, starvation is NOT caused by a lack of food! World ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. My Love Of My Life I started laughing like I d never laugh again in my life. A week ago, I sent a recording of my voice for the audition for the Christmas duet and now I got the position for it. And my partner is James Brown! He is the most charming person I could ever think of. His chocolate colored eyes always sparkled, and his low manly voice would always melt my insides into a puddle of goo. Finally, I have a chance to work with him; a chance to see my love of my life. The next day, I went to the music department at my school with light, bouncy steps. When I went in the room the people inside were staring at me, baffled. People whispered, as they gave me quick looks. Some gave me cold stares. I sat on the nearest chair. The chair that was a little too small groaned under my weight. The people looked at empty spaces, not knowing where to look at. Finally, James came to break the uncomfortable silence. During break time I rushed to the bathroom. When I came back, I could hear the people talking. What do we do with her? We can t put her on stage, we ll be a laughing stock, said one. Why don t we put her in the backstage to sing and have another prettier girl to lip sync on stage? It s the best way out of this, suggested another. But who s going to tell her this? There was no answer. I couldn t listen anymore. I understood, they couldn t put me on stage because of my appearance. • 4. The Importance Of Imperialism In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of... It has been argued that humans are mere products of their environment. In the era of imperialism, artists argued that the nations were breeding grounds for corruption and greed. To illustrate this, several artists, such as Joseph Conrad, utilized the victimized frontiers to display the injustices that were happening. Conrad s Heart of Darkness uses the African environment s wildness and symbolic darkness to demonstrate that imperialism s lack of moral restraints will result in one s environment exploiting the evils hidden in their heart. A symbol itself, the Congo River served as a catalyst that carried Marlow s idealistic mindset into the heart of the dark jungle. In the river, one found that they were bewildered and cut off from everything [they] had known once because the waterway ran on... into the gloom of overshadowed distances , which resulted in moments when one s past came back... in the shape of an unrestful and noisy dream (Conrad 61). Marlow s prejudiced mindset against the natives originally presented an imperialistic mindset of saving subhumans, however, his ideas clashed with an enigma of the living past, which warped all ideas of reality. The Congo river blurred Marlow s reality to present the ultimate point that imperialistic enlightenment could not compete with the deep rooted cultures of Africa s past. Although Marlow initially took interest in Africa because of its blank space as the place where the merry dance of death and trade goes on , he had to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Concert Analysis Of A Concert The concert that I attended was played by Michael Kirkendoll on Wednesday, November 8 at Beall Concert Hall. Kirkendoll played two pieces during the performance. The first was called Marriage, Mile 55 From the Road, which talked about the disturbing tale of a man that explains how he murdered his wife. The second piece, De Profundis, talked about a distal longing for love from a homosexual man who was arrested because of who he loved. The first piece, Marriage, Mile 55 From the Road, was played as a piano solo, with other forms of instrumentation coming from Kirkendoll using his voice including both lyrical dictation and simple sound effects. He also used the piano as a percussion instrument and a string instrument by slapping and hitting the wooden sides and reaching over into the belly of the piano and plucking the strings like a guitar. There was not a specific tempo used for this song, as it changed many times because the lyrical parts. Many times, the lyrics would dictate tempo. Dissonance was used mainly because of the minor notation. This fit perfectly into the horror theme that the composer was trying to express in his work. There was not a defined tempo as Kirkendoll changed the timing in order to build suspense and further the plot. To my untrained ears, Kirkendoll sounded like he was jumping around on the keyboard rather than keeping a specific tempo. The music being played was complex to play, but especially hard to understand. The song Marriage, was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Brief Introduction on Judicial Review in the United States Part I: A Brief Introduction on Judicial Review Judicial review is the doctrine in democratic theory under which legislative and executive actions are subject to review, and possible invalidation, by the judiciary. Specific courts with judicial review power must annul the acts of the state when it finds them incompatible with a higher authority, such as the terms of a written constitution. Judicial review is an example of the functioning of separation of powers in a modern governmental system (where the judiciary is one of three branches of government). Raub(1825).Other debates and controversies followed. But Marbury v. Madison has been ratified by time and practice and has become a cornerstone of the larger constitutional system Marbury, of course, stands only for the proposition that judges can declare acts of Congress invalid. In subsequent cases Marshall asserted that judges could also declare invalid executive orders or actions (Little v. Barreme, 1804 ) and upheld the Judiciary Act of 1789, under which Congress gave the Supreme Cour power to review and reserve decisions upholding the constitutionality of state statutes (Martin v. Hunter s Lessee, 1816;Cohens v. Virginia, 1821). Taken collectively, these cases provide federal judges with impressive tools for monitoring governmental actions, tools that they have not always been hesitant to use. Through the end of the 1990s, the Supreme Court has invalidated nearly 140 federal statutes and some 1,200 local laws . State courts too, with their own power to strike down acts passed within their jurisdiction, are active monitors of their governments. One scholar estimates that state justices invalidate nearly 25 percent of all laws challenged in their court rooms. Through judicial review, state courts determine whether or not state executive acts or state statutes are valid. They base such rulings on the principle that a state law that violates the U.S. constitution is invalid. They also decide the constitutionality of state laws under ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Time In The Play Our Town If a book were to tell someone s life, how could you tell if it was the next day or the next year? Usually authors have different strategies to give readers an idea of how much time has passed. However, this is especially harder in plays because the perception of time to readers is mainly dependent on the verbal script of the characters. In the play Our Town by Thornton Wilder, his usage of the concept of time is incorporated by major life events such as their life as children, the wedding and a funeral with the help of the stage manager and the title of the acts. To begin with the play is essentially about the lives of two neighboring families, the title of the first act Daily lives is appropriate and telling of the beginning of the play. Such as when she chose to relive a day and she noticed how everyone wasn t really taking everything in and enjoying themselves. The stage manager was the key tool in translating the authors perspective of time to the readers and the acts being few kind of shows how quickly and empty her life was. In places like Iraq, Syria, Israel, Afghanistan, Yemen, and other countries too numerous to mention, countless lives are lost over religious differences. In America, a Protestant can live happily next door to a Jew, who might live across the street from a Muslim, or a Catholic, or a Sikh, or even a Humanist! Johnson carried out the rest of Kennedy s term, and then ran for reelection in 1964. Johnson, a left leaning Democrat found himself up against Barry Goldwater from the right minded Republican Party. Early on in the 20th century, many of Protestant denominations had adopted progressive, social reformist doctrines, that many people still value to this day. Despite being Protestant, Goldwater s platform took a much more conservative approach. This ended up backfiring on him, however, as many Christian publications stated that they opposed Goldwater s policies. He was further stigmatized by the religious publication The Christian Century as turning his patriotic rhetoric into religious nationalism. To make matters worse for Goldwater, in October of 1964, less than a month before the general election, 725 Episcopalian clergy and laymen from forty one states signed a resolution accusing him of a transparent exploitation of racialism. Richard Nixon, a Republican and ex Vice President at the time, claimed that these allegations were the most vicious in political history. As a result, Lyndon Johnson won the 1964 election in an unprecedented landslide victory, with Barry Goldwater only winning six states: his native Arizona, and five states in the heart of the Bible Belt (Kosmin 1993:174 5). • 11. Social Class And Socio-Economic Class Socio economic class has an extensive social influence on language variation (Meyerhoff and Schleef, 2010 pg. 392). Individuals of higher socio economic class typically have a greater income in which can be further invested in higher education. Consecutively, those who are educated tend to use more of the standard form of language and in contrast, speakers with lower educational levels tend to use more of the non standard language (Meyerhoff and Schleef, 2010 pg. 415). Among the various social classes of the socio economic hierarchy, the use of standard and non standard forms of language can vary greatly. The data from Trudgill (1995) demonstrates the percentage of appearances of three non standard variants ((ng): [n], (t): [?], (h): [0]) in 5 socio economic classes in the UK. What is defined as a social class depends on many different factors. Occupation, home value, personal wealth, aspirations to social mobility and various other factors need to be considered when determining one s social class. The levels in the hierarchy of social class are also affected depending on the region. In the adapted Trudgill study (1995) that took place in the UK, the socio economic classes that they observed were the middle middle class (MMC), lower middle class (LMC), upper working class (UWC), middle working class (MWC) and LWC (LWC). The Trudgill study (1995) demonstrates the usage of non standard variants in the UK that differ significantly across the social classes. The current analysis of data adapted from Trudgill (1995) investigates the differences between the social classes and their varying association with the usage of the three non standard variants in the UK. Trudgill s hierarchy of social classes in the UK include 5 social classes: MMC, LMC, UWC, MWC and LWC. Within these social classes there are many differences. According to Trudgill (1995), the MMC highly value education and culture and is politically and socially engaged. Individuals within this class typically are employed as doctors, accountants, social workers or managers. It is the idea that our world and the universe surrounding it are so intricate that it could not happen by accident, it was designed. William Paley put forward perhaps the most famous version of this with the watchmaker argument. Imagine you live on a desolate desert island and one day you come across a watch. By looking at it and examining, the intricate and complicated mechanisms you would conclude that it was designed by an intelligent designer. A watch could not happen by chance. The probability of the Big Bang creating a perfect world is minuscule, 1 in a million. However, if we think of all the planets in our universes that are not sustaining life then it does not seem so improbable. Back to this perfect watch , its not perfect. It does not automatically adjust the time when the clocks go forward. Instead it spitefully ticks away knowing that you will be late for work. Alternatively, does it remember leap years? Does it give you an apology? No because it is a mean and uncaring watch. Our world is much like this watch, its imperfect. It is rude and selfish. People are staving and we are sitting here stuffing our faces. Our amazing hands are not so amazing after all, they wear out, muscles and bones break. Surely, an intelligent designer would design us with out these faults. It is not just us with these faults. Meteorites crash into planets, the sun will one day plunge us into darkness if its heat has not dried us out and we could be sucked into a black hole. You could say nobodies perfect , but God, by definition, is a perfect being. If God created the universe, it would have to be perfect. Jerry Coyne the author of Why Evolution is True explains that despite Darwin s lack of knowledge on DNA and genetics his original theory as stated in The Origin , are the fundamental blocks for the modern theory of evolution. In chapter two Coyne opens up with a quote form Charles Darwin: The Crust of the earth is vast museum; but the natural collection have been made only at intervals of time immensely remote. The fossil record provides some of the best evolutionary evidence. Utilizing fossils has been around for hundreds of years. All fossils are formed the same way, needing a specific group of circumstances to occur. The organism must find their way into water, sink to the bottom and get quickly covered by sediment so that they don t decay or get scattered by scavengers. These rare circumstances are why a majority of fossil records are complete. The first 80 percent of the history of life were soft bodied organisms not containing any bone or teeth. This is why there is no evolutionary record of the origin of life. To this day we only have fossil evidence for about 1 percent of all species that have ever lived on earth. Although these records do not contain a good representation of life on earth, fossils can be utilized to display evolutionary patterns. Proof that evolution occurs can be found in the rocks. She was one of the people who came up with dancing in a natural way, unlike modern ballet, allowing the performer to feel right. She didn t believe that dance should be unnatural to the person s body. She was a great influence to modern dance. After her birth in 1877, her father lost his job at a bank in California. Not shortly afterwards, her parents divorced around 1880. Isadora was raised by her mother Dora who was a piano teacher. This probably made her feel the music more because she would move her body to the music while they practiced and didn t have a teacher at that time. Their family not long after moved to Oakland, California where her mother struggled with making money as a piano instructor. Isadora s dad returned later and provided a home for his ex wife. When Isadora was a little girl she studied ballet like Delsarte technique and she studied Burlesque and automatically fell in love with dance. She didn t like traditional ballet so she made her own style that was more comfortable. She believed ballet had too many rules. Song Of Roland And Inferno Comparison The Song of Roland, an epic poem which tells of Charlemagne s excursions into Spain where he was fighting the Saracens or Muslims, is a good example of militant Christianity. Charlemagne, King of the Franks, is a militant committed militant Christian, and it is necessary to understand this to make sense of his fighting the Saracens. As a militant Christian, one of his main goals was to convert others to Christianity. This opportunity presented itself when Marsilla, leader of the Muslims, offered to convert to Christianity if Charlemagne stopped attacking his men. The messenger sent to inform Marsilla actually revengefully betrayed Charlemagne, and thus brought about the defeat and death of the men making up the rear guard of Charlemagne s army. I believe if there has been a very significant amount of school canceled then a combination of actions should be taken. First, a certain amount of extra school should be added on to the year if the winter was severe enough, but should not exceed a week or maybe two. The Parable Of The Alert Servant Made Simple Essay The Parable of the Alert Servant Made Simple (Mark 13:33 37) By Matthew Payne Jan 11, 2012 Mark 13:33 37 reads: Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. It is like a man going out to a far country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch. Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. And what I say to you, I say to you all: Watch! Throughout the New Testament, Jesus shared all about the signs of the time. He had been sharing that there will be false Christs and there will be tribulation. The stars of Heaven will fall and all sorts of things will happen before the coming of the end of days. Jesus is much more than a wonderful person. While reading or listening to these parables, I hope you will fully understand who He is and what is really going on. Today, Jesus has in fact gone to a far country. This is no longer a parable. While it is true that when Jesus was on earth, this was a parable with a funny significance, He had not yet gone to that far country but now Jesus has gone away. It says just before this, concerning the day of his second coming, of that day no one knows, not even the angels in Heaven nor the Son, but only the Father. Scott Fitzgerald, and Lady Macbeth from the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare both successfully demonstrate the deadly sin of greed through their immoral actions to gain their own personal desire for wealth and power, eventually leading to their downfall. To begin, the character of Myrtle Wilson carries out an affair with Tom Buchanan to obtain materialistic items motivated by her greed. In The Great Gatsby Myrtle Wilson demonstrates greed in the presence of Tom Buchanan. In essence, Tom is a wealthy individual, and Myrtle is able to conduct a luxurious lifestyle as long as she ... In the play Macbeth , Lady Macbeth learns of Macbeth s prophecy through a letter that claims he will become King. Lady Macbeth states, Lady Macbeth: Hie thee hither, that I may pour my spirits in thine ear; and chastise with the valor of my tongue, all that impedes thee from the golden round. (Shakespeare 1.5.28 31) Lady Macbeth is now aware of her husband s prophecy, and immediately desires all the power and added benefits that come with her husband being King. Likewise, Lady Macbeth is characterized as a greedy individual by wanting Macbeth to take any action necessary to become King so she may become Queen. She discovers that Macbeth s first two prophecies have already come true, and is quick to take action so the third prophecy will come true. To add on, Lady Macbeth uses a metaphor to express her desire to Macbeth pour my spirits in thine ear , she wants to inform Macbeth of her plan to murder King Duncan so Macbeth may become King; this illustrates that Lady Macbeth is willing to commit an immoral action to gain power. Lol West Essay NL West The NL West is a riveting division which produced two playoffs teams last year; although four can be considered to have a shot this season, at least one of those four will disappoint. The Dodgers have won the division each of the last four years and will likely win it again this season. They have both a dynamite lineup and a light em up rotation, but were plagued by injuries last season and have numerous players who are injury risks this year. Their ace is Clayton Kershaw, who has been an all star for six consecutive seasons and the NL Cy Young winner thrice; in one of those years he won the NL MVP as well. Their bullpen was absolutely horrific last season, blowing 32 saves in the regular season and playoffs. Behind Melancon they are supremely deficient; Hunter Strickland and Derek Law are awful. Their lineup is solid, led by Brandon Belt, Buster Posey, Hunter Pence, and Brandon Crawford. Pence has been got progressively worse over the past few years and is well past his prime, on top of the fact that he carries an albatross injury concern, and the same is true for Denard Span. Their weakest point is the outfield; injuries to Span and Pence could be a killer. The Giants have the potential to make the playoffs, and they could catch the Dodgers if everything goes right, but they are the likeliest of the five teams I predict to make the playoffs to come up short. The Diamondbacks will rely heavily on their offense in their attempt to make a playoff push, but will need everything to go right to get them there. • 21. The Comparison Of Eros And Energy By William Blake Now that the definitions of Eros and Energy have been clarified, its essential to explore the apparent similarities that both terms hold. Both Eros and Energy associate with this creative energy that exist in the elaborate confines of our mental facilities and both harbor opposing force that suppresses them to which Freud and Blake find this suppression of desire to be harmful for the individual. From direct quotation, it is proven that libido is a manifestation of the power of Eros (Freud 109). As previously mentioned, libido then is the source of desire that becomes this creative energy though sublimation and this powers the creative pursuits that develop civilization. This mirror s William Blake s Energy since both contain a similar source of desire. Blake s view on Energy being a desire comes out when he describes Energy to be restrained, it by degrees becomes passive, till it is only a shadow of Desire (Blake 5). From this Blake admits that Energy in a sense a form of desire that every individual has. Blake doesn t stop at this as he sees the importance of this desire to be executed. This is realized thought his Proverbs of Hell, where he reveals, Sooner murder an infant in its cradle than nurse unacted desires (Blake 10). In William Shakespeare s play, Richard III, Richard is portrayed as physically deformed and psychologically affected. It is believed that his inner soul is a reflection of his physical deformities. Richard is considered as the protagonist of this play, however this is highly contradictive. A protagonist is the hero of the story who exhibits characteristics of courage and perseverance, and is admired for their brave deeds as well as their noble qualities. Therefore, Marshall earned an important place in American history on the basis of two accomplishments. Second, as an associate justice of the Supreme Court and the nation s first black justice. After accumulating an imposing record of Supreme Court opposition to state sponsored discriminatory chauvinism, including the landmark Brown v. Board decision in 1954, President John F. Kennedy appointed Thurgood Marshall to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. While in this position, he wrote over 150 decisions including support for the rights of immigrants, limiting government intrusion in cases involving illegal search and seizure, double jeopardy, and right to privacy issues. Biographers Michael Davis and Hunter Clark note that, none of his 98 majority decisions was ever reversed by the Supreme Court. Magnetic Resonance Imaging Abstract Abstract NMR is a form of spectroscopy that utilizes external magnetic fields and signals to identify the chemical structure of organic molecules, creating a gradient image. Through applying an applied Radio Frequency, the proton is able to flip into higher energy states, and then relax. This process is recorded by a NMR Spectrometer, and the difference in energy provides it with a certain NMR Signal. The difference in the magnetic fields of the allows for a gradient image of the area. There are various types of imaging that are useful for fast imaging or 3D imaging such as Gradient Echo Imaging or Volume Imaging. The spin of a proton is expressed in ± k (1/2), where k is a coefficient. During the NMR process, an external magnetic field is applied on the protons, partially polarizing them. This will cause them to all align in the same orientation, around the magnetic field direction, as it is the easiest to maintain that position. This is called the Minimum Magnetic Potential Energy. • 39. Pitt Panthers Research Paper With nine national championships, 74 first team All Americans, and 712 all time wins, the Pitt Panthers have long been one of college football s premier programs. Few schools can rival the players my dad and grandpa grew up watching, such as Tony Dorsett and Dan Marino. What do they have in common? Both played at historic Pitt Stadium, home of the Panthers since 1925. This, along with the iconic Pitt Script logo and their royal blue and mustard yellow color scheme, gave Pitt an unmistakable identity. However, this all changed when Steve Pederson became the new athletic director in 1997. After four straight losing seasons, Pederson thought it would be best to put his own mark on the program by changing the school s colors to navy blue and vegas gold and getting rid of Pitt s decades old logo. Worst of all, he tore down the 75 year old stadium and replaced it with a new basketball arena, which alienated him with the entire alumni base and led to decreased support almost overnight. Following this, Pitt football moved to the newly built Heinz Field, also home to the Steelers. While this sounds nice in theory, it created a problem: it was off campus. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Right now, there s no nostalgic feelings or reliving memories at Heinz Field. On campus stadiums create a unique setting, as there s a natural relationship between football and campus life. The alums and fans that come on campus each Saturday would not only give the university a new image, but also bring in hundreds of new patrons for Oakland s businesses. Many businesses were hurt from the lost revenue of no Panther football games when they moved in 2000; some even went out of business. Bringing football back on campus would give them a much needed boost and could help revitalize the entire neighborhood of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Informed Consent in Healthcare The Doctor and Patient relationship aspect of Medicine has changed drastically in the last twenty years. It has evolved from paternalism (the doctor makes the decision for the patient) to shared decision making where the patient is considered an equal partner in his/her own health related decisions. Informed consent is the cornerstone for this view. When a patient or a research subject makes an autonomous decision after understanding, the risks and benefits involved with the decision is Informed consent. Complete Informed consent covers the following components: competency, disclosure, comprehension and voluntary. Competency refers to the requirement for the individual to be of legal age and be mentally competent to understand the process. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This meaning is subjective and can be different for each provider. Another issue with the implementation of Informed consent arises when the patient waives the right to Informed consent and leaves the right to make the decision on the physician. Though legally correct, this can cause psychological stress for the physician especially when the decision is about a life threatening medical condition. Moreover, this also makes the patient vulnerable to abuse. (Manthous, DeGirolamo, 2003) Legally and ethically under Informed consent a patient has the right to refuse specialty treatment or referral but needs to be informed about the risks involved with delay or lack of the specific treatment recommended. Mostly, if the patient does agree to visit the specialist then, the specialist is responsible for the informed consent for the specific treatment. But is has been contested and help in courts that the primary care physician still is responsible for the patients welfare in all phases of treatment. For a provider in a busy practice it is difficult to keep track of all the referrals and at times, the specialist s office has a different outlook on the matter. The learned intermediary doctrine puts the responsibility of drugs related informed consent unto the physician. This doctrine provides that manufacturers of prescription drugs and medical devices discharge their duty of care to patients by providing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. America Before Columbus And The Columbian Exchange In modern America, we often take for granted the natural world that surrounds us and the American culture which is built upon it. For many of us, we give little thought to the food sources that sustain and natural habitats that surround us because when viewed for what they are, most people assume that they have simply existed since the country was founded. However, the documentary America Before Columbus provided this writer an extremely interesting record of how the America we know came to exist. In the documentary, one of the most interesting discussions centered on the fact that it was not merely the arrival of conquistadors and colonists that irrevocably changed the landscape of the Americas, but that it was also the coined term known as the Columbian Exchange that afforded these travelers the ability to proliferate so successfully. The basic definition of the Columbian exchange is one that defines the importation of European flora and fauna. It could also loosely represent other imports, both intended and unintended, such as tools, implements, and even disease. Armed with this definition, it takes little imagination to envision how differently the Americas might have developed had any significant amount of the native European flora, fauna, or other unintended import not been conveyed to the Americas through the Columbian Exchange. Beyond the arrival of explorers, settlers, and colonists to the New World, the breadth of what the Columbian Exchange represented to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Elementary School Security Another action that can be taken place is possibly having more security placed on school sites, more so on elementary and middle schools. Many have seen the extensive security measures that have been taken on high school campuses such as security guards, officers, Identification cards, etc., but why aren t these security measures occurring on elementary and middle schools? A possible solution to solving the security on elementary and middle schools would be providing security guards on these school sites. There is a concern about a shortage of security guards on campuses, so instead of hiring security guards school districts could possible hire retired police officers or military. By hiring these retired officers or military members they would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 43. The Effect Of Light And Total Respiration Of The Plant... Intro: For all living organisms including plants, respiration is the process of converting chemical energy into a usable form of energy (Biol 171L Lab 7). Even if an organism does not have an energy source, they will keep respiring. For autotrophic plants, the process of obtaining energy is called photosynthesis. It harvests solar energy, carbon dioxide, and water to form a usable form of energy (Tanaka 2009). The factors that go into this process includes the pigment the plant possesses, and the intensity, wavelength, and direction of the light. Plants that contain the pigment chlorophyll a are the ones we see as the leaves of common trees, or grass. Because chlorophyll a takes in violet blue, and orange red lights to use in photosynthesis, it reflects green, and that is the color we see. This study investigates the relationship between the wavelength of light and the total respiration of the plant Elodea. The purpose is to see the effect of the presence or absence of certain wavelengths can have on the process of photosynthesis. Because Elodea is a plant that reflects green light, it can be assumed that red lights, the complimentary color to green will be absorbed the most contributing to the process of photosynthesis and respiration making the most oxygen. Methods: In this lab, varying wavelengths were used to test how light affects photosynthesis and respiration as a whole. The absorbance of lights from 380 nm to 720 nm of chlorophyll pigment from the Elodea sample ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Evaluation Of A Cooperative Learning Device Essay For students to receive a more effective and meaningful academic experience, a diverse pedagogical methodology for enhanced and relevant learning is required. Various strategies are available to engage adolescent students toward a more fruitful learning experience. The jigsaw method, a cooperative learning device, is a project based exercise whereby students assume specific roles for content mastery and conduct tasks with an interdependence on one another for deeper learning on multiple aspects of a subject toward better comprehension and fully reaching the intended objectives. This strategy is useful in putting students in an active role while investigating subject matter. It is also a chance for teachers to allow students to discover and find options to fit their own learning styles and presentational preferences. Not all teachers prefer this method nor find it most applicable to their discipline, however. Students often may find that evaluation based on peer project completion is not representative of their personal abilities. Applied appropriately and accordingly, the jigsaw method has the potential to create interdisciplinary relevance of the topic, widen a student s breadth of subject analysis, and change their classroom outlook from dread to enthusiasm. By Jerald Joseph A traditional approach to learning puts teachers in control of the specific learning material delivered, formative assessments, teaching methods, and pace of learning.
