My Journey To The World Essay
Gateway To The World
Traveling isn t in everyone s favor, but it sure is in mine. British novelist, Lawrence Durrell once
quoted, Travel can be one of the most rewarding forms of introspection. The reason I enjoy
traveling is because it takes me on a journey for finding my inner self. Before traveling, I ve
always been closed minded at how I viewed the world, but once I got a bigger look at how the
world works, my thoughts and I, myself have changed. It all begins on a sweltering day in
Schertz, Texas. My mom had received a phone call that was certain to come at some point. The
person on the other side of the phone informed her that we would have to travel to Turkey and
live there for 2 years. Since I was 5 years old at the time, I thought traveling to foreign countries
every now and then was normal for every family. There were trucks coming and going, suit case
zippers zipping, and chaos all around me. One month later, I m was on a plane headed to this
unknown country that was too far away for the impatient self that I am. Eager to march out of the
plane, I was at last at the final destination. As I looked around the AdanaAirport, people looked
different and their clothing was divergent as they wore dilapidated shirts and pants. Entering the
real world of Turkey, transportation mainly consisted of grimy metro buses and bikes. The
atmosphere smelled like thousands of Burger King Whoppers were trampled on with a side of six
week old onion rings. After all the luggage

Tim Draper s Business Analysis
As one recent article on the West Valley database noted, venture capitalist investor, Tim Draper, is
proposing a voter initiative on Congress to split California into 6 states. Today, researchers have
been observing areas of California that place either greater or lesser importance on decisions about
laws, taxes, and public policy, thus some counties are lacking in affordable housing and quality
infrastructure. The fact that our statelies between the top ten worst governments to do business with
was sufficient reason for Tim Draper s plan to balance Californias resources by dividing it into 6
sovereign states. According to Draper, since California demonstrates many subjects of interest
different from other states, it could be a solution to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At that level of organization, each state can join the discussion for creating their own laws,
electing new officials, and focus upon serious priorities such as environmental concerns and
helping people understand the water crisis. For instance, Todd Fitchett s position on Fresno and
Tulare counties most demanding issue of the year, record high water prices, is distrustful of
California s current economic policy. His article, Time for a Fresh Approach to Helping People
Under the Water Crisis , argues that rising water prices carries over to consumers paying higher
prices for produce, tree nuts, and dairy, therefore all of these commodities have serious potential
to be further increased. In making an argument for dividing California into 6 states, that
movement of unity primarily based on being apart of a new state will be opportunistic for people
to save more water, or else millions of Americans will face the forces of a crashing agricultural

Vivaldi Instrumedeley Analysis
The two concerts I have chosen are different in many ways, but the music itself has a lot in
common. For the first concert I chose the progressive rock group Dream Theater. I chose the piece
Instrumedley from their Live at Budokan video released in 2004. This video depicts the band setup
on stage in the typical rock concertformat. The lighting is bright and multicolored. Unlike most rock
concerts, the musicians do not animate themselves to excite the crowd. They rely on the mastery of
their instruments to provide the excitement.
The second concert is a performance of Vivaldi s Concerto Grosso in D minor. It is performed by
the Franz Listz Chamber Orchestra. The setting is that of a small gothic church in Hungary. There
is no audience as the venue is used solely for the acoustics.
The band Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band formed in 1985. The members
met while attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Their music focuses on
three core elements: metal, progressive roots and melody. Dream Theater has been known to make
use of elements of other musical styles to include classical music. The piece I selected,
Instrumedely , is a mash up of instrumental sections from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He was a master violinist. He wrote church music and more than 40 operas. He is widely known
for his pieces for string orchestra. One of his most famous of these is his set of concertos for
solo violin and orchestra named Four Seasons. The Vivaldi concerto was pure joy to listen to.
The opening sequence is entrancing as the two violins tend to echo off one another. The acoustics
of the gothic church lend itself perfectly to the style of music. The details in the melody are
clearly heard while there is a rich bass sound thanks to the echo of the church. I found the piece to
be rather relaxing while being impressed by the complexity. It is no surprise that so many modern
guitarists borrow heavy from

The Role Of Christ s Body And The Relics Of Bodies Essay
Bodies, living and dead, play an immense role in Christianity. The body and the relics of bodies
are actually able to become places where one can have direct contact with God, but only if there are
sanctified (Nachaj, Lecture 12). There are many examples of ways to sanctification including but
not limited to, celibacy, poverty, martyrdom, preaching and spreading the gospel, leading
communities through teachings, and performing miracles (Nachaj, Lecture 12). Many of these
important practices and ways of living are discussed in the following paper including the
importance of JesusChrist (in his living and dead form), martyrs such an Julian of Norwich,
shrines, relics, and monks and nuns. In most cases provided, it is explained how to body is a sin
like possession that Christians are constantly trying to strive away from but this is proved wrong
through way of looking at God s creations.
By far, one of the most prominent bodies to playa role in Christian teaching and practice would
be that of Jesus the Christ s body; in physical and spiritual form. Jesus was seen as being both
human, in the flesh, and God, in the spirit (Nachaj, Lecture 12). For Christians, Jesus is seen in
direct relation of God as either sharing a father son relationship with him, or as actually being the
bodied version of God himself. Christianity s central doctrines the incarnation, the crucifixion, the
resurrection and its essential rituals baptism and communion are all theological assertions in

Similarities Between Good Night And Good Luck In The Crucible
Arthur Miller s The Crucible, has many unique and complicated characters, purposed to show the
severe injustice of the Joseph McCarthy trials in the 1950 s. The injustices created by these trails
creates many different conflicts, both internal and external between many different characters. A
similar motif is expressed in George Clooney s Good Night and Good Luck. Arthur Miller uses
many different characters to show the chaos the trails created, by relating it to the story of the
Salem Witch Trials. The characters of John Proctor and Reverend Hale both resemble different
ways of dealing with internal conflict. John Proctor, had a struggle between his head and his heart.
For Example, after he heard of the trials, he had an internal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Salem witch trials cause confusion among people, because it forces them to question their
beliefs, which are the basis of their entire lifestyle in Salem. Reverend Hale, coming to Salem
believes he is doing good, and helping to destroy the devil, but as the trials progress, we learn
that he is doubtful of his faith. Arthur Miller masterfully shows the counterproductiveness of the
trials. The purpose of the trials was to preserve the people of Salem, but it actually achieves to
opposite by destroying people s belief in their beliefs. During the trial scene, Arthur Miller also
uses the character of Mary Warren to show confusion. Mary Warren knows the truth, but she
manages to convince herself otherwise. In Act three, during the court scene, there are a few
solid moments, where Mary Warren is unsure of her own beliefs, and of what she saw, or didn t
see. Another example of this is in Good Night and Good Luck by George Clooney when Edward
R Murrow is unsure if he should continue his quest to end the Joseph McCarthy trials. His boss
seems to be unhappy with his program on CBS, and he is unsure of what to do. Finally, an
example of this confusion caused by the trials is illustrated in Elizabeth Proctor, when she differs
from her beliefs to state that she doesn t believe in witches. In Puritan society, witches were the
ultimate evil. In some ways, they were a

Laertes Foil Of Hamlet
Hamlet is a play by William Shakespeare that follows Hamlet as his father is murdered by his
uncle Claudius, who marries Hamlet s mother and claims the throne. Hamlet takes a very
deliberate and pensive approach to gaining revenge. In this slow process, he accidentally murders
Polonius, thinking him to be the King eavesdropping. This leads to the wrath of Laertes, who takes
a very different approach to revenge. Through Laertes foil of Hamlet, the futility of passionate
revenge is revealed.
Both Laertes and Hamlet experience similar events in their lives. Both men lose their father to
murder. Both men know who murdered their father, and both men desire revenge. Laertes exclaims
that he will be revenged / Most throughly for [his] father. (4.5.153 154). Likewise, Hamlet vows to
Revenge his [father s] foul and most unnatural murder. (1.5.31). A strong foil is established in the
unusual yet identical situation they each face. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hamlet plots, but does not take action. Even when he is presented with an opportunity to kill his
father s murderer while he is praying (3.3.77), Hamlet does not take advantage of it. Hamlet is
aware of his own inaction and calls himself a rogue and peasant slave (2.2.577) for being unable
to avenge his father while even an actor in a fiction, in a dream of passion (2.2.579) could force
tears in his eyes, distraction in his aspect, [and] / A broken voice... / all for nothing (2.2.582 584).
In contrast, Laertes immediately acts upon learning of his father s murder without any sort of plan
in place. Rather than preoccupying himself with details, Laertes simply states Let come what comes

Cryptography and the Issue of Internet Security Essay...
High level encryption or cryptography is used in a number of applications ranging from those which
impact national security to those which are more mundane. Essentially, cryptography is the
methodology of encoding information so that one s privacy is ensured. This is particularly
important when it comes to transactionswhich occur over the Internet. The risk of individuals
gaining access to personal informationor information which is critical to a country or a nation over
the Internet is a very real one. The practice of cryptography lessens the likelihood of this happening.
Part A Identification and Description of the Issue
A greater and greater percentage of the world population is gaining access to the Internet and

We transmit and receive a massive amount of information through the Internet which by its very
nature is insecure and wild and free.
Some information we transmit and receive through the Internet is trivial, other is critical from
either a personal, business or national perspective. Without some form of encryption this
information could not only fall into the wrong hands but it could also be read and manipulated by
those who intercepted it. This, according to the type of information, could be disastrous from either
a personal, business, or national perspective. It could be presumed that intellectual property which
currently belongs to its Creator would be freely disseminated around the globe with no practical
way to control who saw it or how they utilized it (anonymous, http://www.cs.brown.edu/).
Part D Proposed Solutions
There are two possible solutions to the security of data on the Internet. These are TCP/IP and
Cryptography. TCP/IP sessions can be captured, however, by unauthorized personnel using devises
such as IP packet sniffers (Computer Reseller News PG). Cryptography, on the other hand, provides
a single technology which has the potential to address all of the above criteria to ensure safe
Internet transactions.
The software provided by Hewlett Packard, VerSecure, offers an excellent and economical solution

The Moths Essay
Rebirth Through the use of Symbolism and Characterization In the short story The Moths by
Helena Maria Viramontes, the author uses symbolism and characterization to paint the scene of a
girl in a literary fiction that has lost her way and ends up finding herself within her Grandmother
through the cycles of life. Through the eyes of an unnamed girl we relive a past that has both a
traumatic ending and a new leash on life; however, we do not get there without first being shown
the way, enter The Moths . The author utilizes opposite ends of the lightspectrum to signify
beginnings and endings by painting a vivid picture for the reader: There comes a time when the sun

Since the moon is the polar opposite of the sun we can say that, in the human element of the story
there is Grandma Luna which is currently at the ending of her moon life and at the beginning of
her rebirth towards a new day as the sun , the light bulb, as a symbol of rebirth representing the
sun, appears one more time in the story, where in the wake of her Grandmothers death, the
narrator is watching the moths fluttering to light , carrying her Grandmother s soul to a place
were it can become reborn. I believe that the author s carefully chosen name of Luna for the
Grandmother was in fact to show the reader that our death is inevitable but our rebirth in terms
of happiness is changeable. Equally important in the story is the use of characterization to show
the reader exactly who the protagonist in the story is and what kind of life she is living, we first
read of her sisters and how they act in contrast to the protagonist: I [the narrator] wasn t even
pretty or nice like my older sisters and I just couldn t do the girl things they could

Wollstonecraft, Mary Shelley s mother, passed away, Godwin was to take care of Mary. He,

her father strongly disapproved. He disapproval continued and increased when the two
eventually eloped in 1816. Godwin had been horrified by Mary s elopement with Percy Shelley,

Some consider Victor, the creature, society, the pursuit of knowledge and death to be monsters.
Other consider Mary Shelley s mother, Mary Wollstonecraft, and her father, William Godwin to be
the actual villains. Victor is a monster for creating the creature and subsequently abandoning it.
Victor had an infatuation with wanting to play God, most likely inspired by the many
alchemists of the time. As soon as the creature breathed his first breath, Victor hated and was
disgusted by it. The creature never was able to experience the love and affection he so deserved.
It was because of this that the creature did some negative actions. They were in response to
feeling unloved. The creature can be considered the monster because he kills William. He
justified killing William by acknowledging that William had taunted him and the creature only
did it when realized that William was related to Victor, the man that abandoned and made him
feel ugly. Both Victor and William were apart of a society that was close minded. They didn t
appreciate anyone being different. When the creature made attempts to participate in society, he
was pushed away and forced to live in the outdoors. He was forced to learn the ways of the world
without the guidance of parents. Society is the monster for being shallow and unaccepting towards
different people. The lack of any maternal figures

whole family to Melbourne most weekends, and would allow Lee to sit on his lap for the entire

Disadvantages And Disadvantages Of Diversity
As philosopher, Johannes Scotus Eriugena once said, Beauty is unity in the diversity. Diversity in
a society is akin to the local signature dish, rojak , where different ingredients are mixed together
in a bowl to produce a distinct taste. Similarly, in a diverse society, there are people from various
races, ethnicities and beliefs integrating to become a unique cultural identity. Diversity inculcates
acceptance and respect in a society. One has to understand that each and everyone is unique in his
own ways. There are many diverse societies in the world and Singapore is one of them. Being a
multi racial country, Singapore is home to various races, cultures and religions. A diverse society
does have its advantages and disadvantages. The former includes the promotion of humanistic
values and the improvement of productivity and profitability while the latter may result in social
tension.

One of the common disadvantages of a diverse society is that it can possibly trigger social
tensions and unrests. In instances where social tensions occur, there will be civil disorder or
disturbance that is usually caused by two opposing groups, which are made up of different races,
ethnicities or religions. This may be an impact of the rifts that are created over time due to the
imminent cultural and linguistic differences within the society. A good example is the divide and
rule policy. In 1822, Stamford Raffles devised a town plan with the purpose of remodeling
Singapore into a modern city. He set a divide and rule whereby ethnic zones were marked out for
each ethnic group for residential purposes. Such policies may result in the difficulty to maintain
social cohesion and understanding between the people of different backgrounds. It can then lead to
conflicts and disagreements as well as discriminations due to the lack of communication amongst

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Chemical Dyes
Natural dyeing has the advantage of having high diversity of rich and complex colours. The
advantage that different natural colours go well together and rarely clash works in favour of
merchant. The results that come out after using natural dyes are even more vibrant.
The disadvantage is that natural colours require to be taken in large quantities when compared with
chemical dyes. Furthermore, it also takes a longer time which is not the same case with chemical
dyes. The cost of the natural is significantly higher; however, time is required if one is growing
their own plant dyes.
2.5.2 Synthetic Dyeing
The advantage of synthetic dyeing is that it is easy to find and can be used easily. However, in
contrast to this advantage, there are several disadvantages. The synthetic dyes require more
calculation and precise measurement, as a slight mistake can lead to entire fabric being destroyed.
One needs to have the right kind of skills to search for colours that go well together. This can take

Inequality for all
People of color have been the targets of bigotry, racial discrimination, and oppression since the
arrival of the early European settlers. This is evident in the mass extermination of the Native
Americans and in the kidnapping and enslavement of African s in the 1600 s. Although slavery
was abolished over 100 years ago the traumatic effects of this injustice is present in today s society.
The forefathers of America built this nation with the hands of black peopleand despite their
contribution to this country they continue to be marginalized. Even though black people have made
many strides this long standing history of oppression has persevered throughout the generations.

The Nature of Oppression Slave owners used various methods to maintain the order and
productivity of their slaves. In order to maintain control and prevent rebellion slave owners
instilled dependence, fear, ignorance and indoctrination. The Virginia slave codes allowed slave
owners to subject slaves to harsh physical punishment in to break them. If death occurred as a
result of punishing such slave, the slave owner went without reprimand. Slave owners enforced
oppression by using their tyrannical power designated by government. Slave owners had total
control of their slaves. Slaves were dependent on their masters for basic needs: food, shelter and
clothing. Slave owners injected inferiority into the minds of slaves by using skin color as a means
to suggest God s design was to have whites rule them. Slave owners did not allow slaves to
participate in any activities that would make them skillful or knowledgeable, as this would promote
independence. In light of modern racial oppression, these concepts are present in American social
policy. Hidden fascism is most appropriate to describe the ingrained bigoted policies used to control
society and advance white elitist. Racial oppression is evident in the many disparities minorities
and poor people face. African Americans have the highest rates of dropouts, incarceration, poverty,
single parent households, teen pregnancies and unemployment. This cannot be mere coincidence or

Child Labor During The United States
Statement of the problem: Many of the products that are used and consumed in the United States
are made in other countries. One of the main reasons for multinational corporations to produce
goods in countries other than the United States is the cost of production. It is far cheaper to
produce goods such as blue jeans, paper goods, and plastic toys to name a few. In recent years
the conditions in sweatshops in China, Japan, and elsewhere have garnered public outcry from
Countries like the U.S. and most of Europe. The main contention, child labor in dangerous and

(Olby, 2016). His time away from home was difficult, as his family did not have the means to
support him. To help his financial position, he began to tutor other students, but still had a serious
case of depression, and needed to go back home 2 times to better his condition. (Olby, 2016) After
several years of study, he entered the AltbrГјnn monastery. Here, he did not have to worry about
making ends meet, and was able to interact with like minded people. However, he went through
another bout of depression, as the task of visiting the ill became too unbearable

Love And A Little Malice
Come December with love and a little malice.
December is regarded the month of romance and love. The chill turns into a fire when the love
attains its climax. The rain and snow become a catalyst to warm and join the broken hearts. Lovers
admire this month for rekindling their lost dreams. December is the month of Christmas, the month
of the birth of a great prophet JESUS. This prophet of peace loved his enemies and comforted them
all. Jesus always stood with poor and disenfranchised, fed and healed them, preached against the
power bases of society and government and refused to draw weapons against the Roman soldiers
when they came to arrest him. He knew that making an enemy is not the way to make friends since
making enemies has predictable consequences, the enemies naturally fight back, he urged for
kindness and forgiveness. The believers kept alive the gesture and upheld the values he taught.
JESUS knew the world was but a hell without love and compassion. Hence, he transacted his life for
love and erased the sins of others. Muslims around the world adulate the impact this magnificent
prophet created in human history that condemned hatred and violence. Muslim also treats the
followers of JESUS as the right people of the holy book.
It is, however, bewildering to realize, in contrast, the contemporary intellectuals and politicians
untiringly demonize faith, nations and race. None of the virtues of Jesus were adhered to by the
politicians and most of the others who claim to

Plant Growth Of The Brassica Rapa
Background There is a drought in California which is in turn affecting the number of crops that
can be grown in a given amount of time. Farmers now must find a way to grow crops in an
economical fashion while also maximizing each yield as much as possible. However, plant growth
can be influenced by seedvariety, the amount of water, the soil type, amount of light, etc., and many
other variables. For this experiment, we are testing the growth of the Brassica rapa, a mustard plant
under the same conditions of water, sunlight, and oxygen, with two different treatment solutions.
There will be two pots, one has a treatment of just deionized water and the other a treatment of
fertilizer as well as deionized water. Because the fertilizer has the added benefit of nitrogen,
phosphorous, and potassium along with the same quantity of deionized water as the first pot, it is
hypothesized that both sets of plants will grow, however the pot with fertilizer will grow more than
the pot with just water treatment. In the Fertilizer Responses of Volunteer Longleaf PineTrees within
a Loblolly Pine Plantation: Separating Direct Effects from Competition Effects paper, an
experiment on the effect of fertilization on two trees was done. Before the experiment was initiated,
it was known that fertilization increases the growth and productivity of the loblolly pine tree, while
it was hypothesized that the longleaf pine tree is less responsive to fertilization (Anderson, 2009).

The Art Of Athena Parthenos
In Ancient Greece, the culture and values have been developed over time through tales and
artwork. A considerable amount of such works have been marble sculptures of various people and
gods. Many of the most famous and valuable sculptures depict a common attribute in ancient poetry,
youth or the importance of the body. A vast majority of characters in ancient stories have been that
of a youthful and intensely patriotic hero. Strength in youth and form are quite common in the
characteristics of these ancient heroes. People in the ancient world have been represented through
the power and youth within their story and appearance and reflected upon in the sculptures of this
time.
One of the most valued pieces of art in the ancient Greek world is that of Athena Parthenos. The
original statue was designed and sculpted by Phidias and placed in the parthenon in 438 B.C. The
original chryselephantine statue was almost 40ft tall and was made out of ivory with gilded
features. The sculpture stands tall, while wearing a tunic, an aegis, and helmet, while holding the
god of victory, Nike, in her right hand and holding a spear in her left hand. There have been many
replications of this statue, including one created during the Roman Period in the 2nd or 3rd
century A.D. sculpted from stone and bronze. Details include a helmet with pegasoi on each side
with the remains of a sphinx in the center. Athena s hair falls in curls down her shoulders and
snakes encircle her waist and tie in the

Nathaniel Hawthorne Essay
Nathaniel Hawthorne was one of American literature s finest writers; his writing style was very
distinct and unusual in some aspects. It is his background that provided this ambiguous and
complex approach to writing. Hawthorne s New England heritage has, at times, been said to be
the contributing factor in his works. The Puritan view of life itself was considered to be
allegorical, their theology rested primarily on the idea of predestination and the separation of the
saved and the damned As evident from Hawthorne s writings his intense interest in Puritanical
beliefs often carried over to his novels such as, Young Goodman Brown, The Scarlet Letter, and
The Minister s Black Veil just to name a few of the more well known pieces of his work.... Show

Both men Dante and Young Goodman Brown embark on a somewhat spiritual journey and
come out of it with an insight that they never possessed before relating to the world and their
beliefs. Young Goodman Brown had the allegorical elements similar to Dante s Inferno with the
use of color, ambiguous statements and the representation of objects. An example of this type of
ambiguity of language is when the old man convinces Goodman Brown to come with him: Let
us walk on, nevertheless, reasoning as we go, and if I convince thee not, thou shalt turn back.
We are but a little way in the forest yet (Hawthorne 615) This statement can be taken one of two
ways, either for the literal sense in which the old man is urging him to come or for the
allegorical way in which this shows Goodman Brown has a choice in his destiny to make the
right decision and turn his back on Satan when he sees God s way is better. Upon returning home
Goodman Brown comes to the realization that all the people that meant most in his life that he
believed were righteous, upstanding, God fearing citizens were all guilty of being influenced by
the devil. Whether he dreamed this or not what happened to him in the forest changed his life in
such a dramatic way that it compels him to live the rest of it out in gloom and despair as evident
from this paragraph: Often, awakening suddenly at midnight, he shrank from the bosom of Faith,
and at morning or eventide, when the family knelt down at prayer, he

A Study On A Cerebral Vascular Accident
A cerebral vascular incident can happen to anyone at anytime. Some people know it be called a
stroke, CVA, or brain attack. The majority of patients who have had a stoke will have another one
within one year. Stoke tend to occur more often in the southern United States also known as the
stroke belt . This may be related to the larger number of elderly, tobacco use, and obesity. A
cerebral vascular accident ranks high in the major leading causes of death in the United States, and
it happens nearly every four minutes. There are three different types of strokeischemic,

Each minute that passes is increased cell death in the brain. This means the effect of the stroke
will be more severe and have more of an impact on the person. A stroke is a medical emergency
and signs should be recognized and treated abruptly. Signs of a cerebral vascular accident include
decreased sensation, weakness, confusion, trouble speaking or understanding, trouble seeing or
blurred vision, trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination, or headache with no
known cause. The American Heart Association (2013), has put out a saying, Spot a stroke F.A.S.T.
F for face drooping, A for arm weakness, S for speech difficulty, T for time to call 911. Treatment is
dependent upon the onset of the symptoms, so acting fast and seeking medical attention is critical.
Women may report unique symptoms such as loss of consciousness or fainting, general weakness,
difficult or shortness of breath, confusion, unresponsiveness, sudden behavioral change, agitation,
hallucination, nausea or vomiting, pain, seizures, or hiccups.
If the patient controls specific risk factors a stroke can be warded off. Managing risk factors
includes blood pressure, which is the cause of half of all strokes, tobacco use, atrial fibrillation and
physical inactivity. In order to prevent some of these key risk medications may be needed.

Elder abuse Essay
Elders in the United States should not have to go through situations of abuse like the one Mildred
Mortenson suffered. However, this type of situations happen more often than they should and
sadly, there is not enough being done to prevent it. Elder abuse should be recognized as an
increasing and very serious problem in our society. As elders grow more physically frail and begin
to depend on others to meet their basic needs, they tend to become vulnerable to intentional abuse
and neglect within their own home as well as assisted living facilities such as nursing homes.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to know exactly how many elders are being abused across the

However, elder abuse is also common among the millions of elder Americans who reside in
nursing homes. A study where 2,000 nursing home residents were interviewed, reported that
44% of the residents had been abused and 95% said they had been neglected or seen another
resident neglected. They also state that 91% of nursing homes lack adequate staff to properly
care for patients and 36% are known to have been in violation of elderly abuse laws (National
Center on Elder Abuse). This information is extremely alarming. If these facts have already
been uncovered, why is it that no one is doing anything to prevent this from happening to others?
To better understand the scope of the problem, it is crucial that society knows what is
considered as elder abuse and why it is important to resolve this issue. Elder abuse refers to any
intentional or negligent act by a caregiver or any other person that causes harm or a risk of harm
to a vulnerable adult. There are many forms in which an elder can be abused, Elder Abuse and

Latino Americans have a strong connection to their culture and roots; instead of assimilating,
Mexicans live between two worlds. The film, Ballad of Gregorio Cortez gave us a perspective of
two cultures; Two cultures the Anglo and the Mexican lived side by side in state of tension and

Mark Antony soon summoned Cleopatra to the Cicilian city of Tarsus to explain the role she had

The Debate Over Nozick s Experiment Thought Machine
I.Introduction
In what may seem a harsh generalization, I would like to begin by considering the likelihood that
a Christian would commit suicide? On first inclination we know that they would not because they
perceive suicide to be a sin. Even with a less nuanced version we know that in spite of the belief
of heaven and a perfect afterlife there has not been a wide scale mass extinction of Christians any
time lately. In asking a person this it is more than likely that they would likely they were being
played a joke on. My point is to say, in a sense, this is similar to why we see time and time again
philosophers in debate over Nozick s experiment thought machine. We see philosophers like
Nozick advocate that a life plugged into the machine is not in fact a life at all, and that if people
were to be given the option to stay plugged into this machine that provided them endless bliss they
still would not take it. If the question of why would a person not chose to plug into the experience
machine is not clear, I once again bring up the idea of a Christian committing suicide, which may
people may find incredulous. Why is it that it would be incredulous for a Christian to chose to live
another life of more happiness, yet it would not be so for someone to plug into Nozick s own
experience thought machine?
If Nozick s experience machine ultimately offers happiness through a chosen series of experiences
and the gist/selling point of heaven is that there everything you would want

Naco Culture Of Fear Essay
When reporting on terrorism, the media function as a double edged sword. They assure terrorists
that their grievances will receive public attention; yet they also can mobilize public opinion
against the arbitrary use of violence by stripping terrorism of its romantic veneer and exposing its
violent underpinnings to public scrutiny.20 The proposed general industry guidelines should
minimize the harms from publicizing terrorist events while maximizing the speech interests vital
to a democratic society (Moffitt, 1998). In previous decades, the journalistic mission was to
report the news as it actually happened, with fairness, balance, and integrity; Profit gaining
motives associated with journalism have forced much of today s television news to look to the
spectacular, the stirring, and the controversial as news stories. It s no longer a race to break the
story first or get the facts right. Instead, it s to acquire good ratings in order to get advertisers, so
that profits soar. The goals of terrorists are not solely confined to winning the attention of the
masses. In addition to that, through the media, they aim to publicize their political causes, inform
both friends and foes about the motives for terrorist deeds, and explain their rationale for resorting
to violence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What exactly is the culture of fear and how does it affect the way that the public reacts to acts of

media has contributed to this atmosphere of intolerance by over reporting the September 11th

People cannot think clearly when they are afraid. As numerous studies have shown, fear is the
enemy of reason. It distorts emotions and perceptions, and often leads to poor decisions. For people
who have suffered trauma, fear messages can sometimes trigger uncontrollable flight or fight

Descriptive Essay On The New York City
I close my eyes and everything seems so calm that it is as if time itself has stopped altogether. A
wave of peacefulness rushes over me. New York City, I still cannot believe it. I begin to hear a
soft hum in my ears that quickly increases in volume. I open my eyes and I am suddenly brought
back to reality as the train rushes by, its horn blowing loud and strong. The train slows to a stop
and the doors open. All at once a massive crowd of people rush off of the subway. Those of us
standing on the platform push through the crowd, praying that our massive group of dancers will
all make it onto the train. Due to the morning rushhour there is not a seat in sight and there is
barely any room to stand. As the train lurches forward we struggle to stay standing. I look out of
the window and watch the flashes of graffiti on the dark walls as we charge forward. The train
stops and starts three times. Each station just as chaotic as the last. We quickly approach our
fourth stop, West 4th Street, the nerves begin to kick in. The train slows to a stop and once again
we push through the morning foot traffic. We follow the signs towards the West 8th Street exit,
struggling to stay together. I think to myself, whatever happens, don t lose sight of the chaperone.
As we approach the stairwell the air begins to feel cooler. We reach the top of the stairs and the
entire atmosphere changes. Whereas the people in the subway were frantic and rude, the people
that filled the sidewalks are calm

The Between 1879 And 1980
Throughout the period between 1879 and 1980 the relationships between the powers changed
greatly in their nature, coinciding with a shift in the balance of power. The Entente Cordiale of
1904 can certainly be seen as a key turning point, along with other factors such as Neville
Chamberlain s policy of appeasement, the Cuban Missile Crisis and the SALT I and II
agreements. The signing of the Entente Cordiale in 1904 epitomised the ever growing division on
the European stage in the early 1900s, and certainly contributed to a pre war alliance which
precipitated the outbreak of World War One. At the time, the highly unlikely signing of an Anglo
French agreement can be seen by Gavin as a, construct as an affront towards Germany . However,
from the point of German interests, they had no objections to the treaty and had no reason to
suppose that the alliance was directed against any one power. The period of Britain s largely
mythical splendid isolation , formally ending by the 1902 Anglo Japanese Alliance, Britain began to
expand its relations with European countries. The signing of the Entente Cordiale can certainly
suggest that Germany ought to be concerned, and is certainly significant when determining any
alteration in the relationships of the powers and shift in the balance of power. A way in which the
Entente Cordiale was significant was that it was firstly tested in the 1905 Morocco Crisis, only 13
months within the signing of the cordiale, suggests German objection

The Debate Of Knowledge And Belief
The topic of knowledge and belief has been a subject of investigation and a primary field in
philosophical research for centuries. Whether it was Aristotle or Descartes, multiple ideas on
knowledge and belief arise, such as the epistemological theories of foundationalism or
coherentism, which provide philosophical explanations to this debate. For the sake of this essay,
and in my own opinion, knowledge should be distinguished from belief. Everyone is subject to
different types of beliefs based on upbringing, however knowledge of basic items is universal,
therefore it immediately becomes apparent that there is a clear distinction between the two
concepts. Aristotle proposes an argument called the Regress argument, (Wrenn) this argument is
essentially the debate of knowledge versus belief using the epistemological theories of
knowledge. Aristotle takes the side of foundationalism based on the simple fact that it defends
knowledge and it that knowledge requires basic justified beliefs. In the argument it states that
coherentism is simply beliefs supported by other beliefs therefore leading to no concrete
knowledge behind the beliefs. For example, if I say that next month is the April, it is justified by
two other beliefs, that this month is March and the month after April is May (Delaney, 1976). This
example displays that for justification of coherentism it is simply derived from further beliefs.
However, for foundationalism, all beliefs are justified, which we can

A Brief History Of Management Consulting
History of Management Consulting Management consulting is helping other organizations make

characteristics of management consultants in the past, (3) characteristics of management

A Brief History of Management Consulting Consulting firms existed even in the late 19th century
in the United States. The biggest consulting firm back then is Arthur D. Little Inc., which was

After companies started seeking for more profits out of their works, management consulting firms

firms Bain Company, Boston Consulting Group, and McKinsey Company were founded during the
early through mid 20th century (p. 1, 13). Those three firms are currently called Big Three in the

is that it enhances diagnostic impartiality by adding decision trees demarcating significant
characteristics of disorders, which makes clinicians by collections of questions concerning the
presence or the absence of the symptoms. The present DSM IV manual comprises of extensive
anthology of information organized into portions for easier reference (Purse, 2009). The first
section encompasses instructions on the way to use the tools contained in the DSM IV, while
following section contains comprehensive classification systems catalog of the official codes for
each single diagnosis. The fourth section comprises of the manual detailing the diagnostic criteria
accompanied by a description for each disorder. Despite the advantages highlighted above, there are
some disadvantages in the manual compilation. First, the DSM IV compilation lacks the exactitude
in diagnostic criterion to evidently, differentiate one diagnosis from the other as well as the
distinguishing mental disorder, from the situation, such as mental distress. DSM is not visibly clear
on how experiences and behaviors cited within the diagnostic criterion justifiably can consider as
substantiation of mental disorder as distinctive from rejoinders to life events (Crowe,

What Was The Market Revolution Between 1840-1840 Essay
What was the Market Revolution between the years of 1800 1840 all about? After winning the
presidential elections in 1800, President Jefferson was determined to secure the nation and
develop the market. He initiated improvements in roads, railroads, and canals. Consequently, the
development in cotton kingdom led to the rise of the West as a powerful nation. The slavery
trade also improved and became more organized. The revolution was also characterized by the
growth of Chicago and Cincinnati cities. In 1814, the first large scale factory was established in
Waltham, Massachusetts. The economic improvements led to an influx of immigrants and traders
in the major cities, and nativism due to the conflicts. Transformation Laws were implemented to
control business and peace in the West. Additionally, the religion also improved as people
celebrated self improvement, self determination, and self reliance. Entry 2 What did the

By 1840s, the abolition of slave trade became the center of American politics both at the state and
national levels. Consequently, the Mexican frontier that led to the freedom of Spain colonies and
formation of New Mexico and California was established in 1821. However, in the election of
1844, issues of slavery influenced presidential elections where other politicians demanded the
acquisition of Mexico after Spain pulled off their acquisition. War with Mexico had divided
opinions as non supporters claimed that the main intention was to gain more land for slavery. In
1846 after the acquisition, Congressman David Wilmot made the proposal that prohibited slaves in
the New Mexico. Further, government decisions that had divided opinions were the trade treaty

Imagery in Macbeth by William Shakespeare
Imagery in Macbeth William Shakespeare use of imagery creates a picture in the mind of his
audiences that tells a thousand words. In most of his literary work, he shows the importance of
imagery, and how authors can manipulate a reader s feelings towards a character. In Macbeth, one
of Shakespeare s greatest plays, he shows his very skillfully uses imagery. Macbethis one of the
great tragedy themed plays by William Shakespeare. It s about three witches that decide to
manipulate a Scottish general called Macbeth when he returns from a war. The Scottish king,
Duncan, honors Macbeth with the title Thane of Cawdor for his heroic. Macbeth and his friend
Banquo meet the witches. They predict that he will one day become king. So he decides that he
will murder King Duncan. Macbeth s wife agrees to his plan, and so his ambition builds. In The
play Macbeth written by William Shakespeare, his use of imagery is display through symbolism
of light and darkness, Macbeth ill fitting garments and the images of blood. In many of
Shakespeare s works, readers are introduced to the idea of light and dark. Often these two are
symbols of good and evil. Shakespeare use of the theme light vs. darkness is used to show a
conflict between two opposing sides. To begin Darkness shows up more throughout the play. An
example of this is the witches that cause chaos and confusion to other characters. As critic Spurgeon
states the witches are secret, black and midnight hags (Spurgeon 112). The witches

The Slavery And Summary Of Frederick Douglass
In the 1800 s, slavery was a huge part of America. Slavery helped boost the economy and was
heavily dependent upon by Americans. Slaves were treated as if they were not humans, but
property. Slaves natural right of freedom was taken away by the white Americans. This
oppression occurred in America, while they claimed that their nation was the nation of freedom
and liberty. One of the slaves that would help change history was named Frederick Douglass, and
he had a lot to say about American hypocrisy. Frederick Douglass was a former slave. He taught
himself to read and write at a young age, and years later he started his own newspaper called The
North Star , and ended up writing and editing most of the articles himself. Another thing he... Show

He tells them that slavery is in contradiction of what the founding fathers valued and believed in, as
well as what they fought for. Frederick says the founding fathers believed in freedom and equality.
The same things they fought to get away from, are the same things white Americans were doing to
African Americans in that present time. He says in his speech, Feeling themselves harshly and
unjustly treated by the home government, your fathers, like men of honesty, and men of spirit
earnestly sought redress, (404). This quote is an example of how the founding fathers were feeling
under England s government, and how Frederick Douglass was relating it to how blacks were
getting treated and how they felt throughout the United States in that present time. He wanted white
Americans to recognize how they were portraying their nation. Another way he gets his audience
to recognize what they were doing was wrong was by using their emotions to trigger shame and
disappointment within themselves. Mr. Douglass shames them by comparing them to their
founding fathers, who they look up to and celebrated. He says in the speech, You live and must
die, and you must do your own work...You have no right to wear out and waste the hard earned
fame of your fathers to cover your indolence, (407), to shame his audience on not carrying on the
principles and morals that the founding fathers worked so hard to gain. Another example of him
guilting his audience is when he

Aeon Phone Calls
Some children eventually stop being told they look a certain way, such as; cute, beautiful,
darling, or whatever else, and it becomes their eyes, their hair, or their unique, one feature that is
the envy of the world. In this it becomes somehow implied that every other feature of theirs not
mentioned, were they put up for auction and all bidders present were given the option to either
take em or leave em, there would be a consensus for all of em to be left, as if this is something to
be ashamed of when it s probably the case for nearly all of us. After all, very few of us would any

I doubt my own significance quite often. If not for Aeon s phone calls, I am not sure what
importance I would truly have to her. That conflict is my own, though, and of minor relevance only.
Here s the thing, though; to pick up the phone, I must first determine whether my goings on warrant
discussion at all, because without this preparation I may decide without thinking they don t matter
enough to be discussed, then regrettably second guess my conclusion once the call has ended. It s a
thought I imagine is not a special creation of my mind. I cannot be the first to have asked, Can it
really be worth not saying if the only way to discover its value is by saying it? This is where I m
currently at, though, in the internal struggle of this situation: my biggest fear being
interrogation. I adore the idea of intrigue without speculation. Despite my infatuation with the
concept, it s not one I fully understand. I cannot imagine how it would happen that a person might
discover their good news met with a simple request for more details or a simpler congratulations.
There is always a specific question with an opinion attached. In my experience that s how it has
always been, at least, and I ve never been the absolute most of anything to anyone in my life. I m
not one to be called any connotation of special, but in a way I reckon that s how I d prefer it even
if I knew any different. Worth considering, however, is Aeon s

Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor... from the Emma Lazarus poem The New Colossus lists as one
of the most famous verses in American history. It is ironic that Lazarus wrote it in1882 in
celebration of the erection of the Statue of Liberty which has become the iconic symbol of
America as a welcoming beacon for a nation of immigrants. The Statue of Liberty was dedicated
only four years later.
In 1917, literacy tests were required of immigrants. Immigrants were required to write and read a
language, although the language did not have to be English. In the 1920 s, Congress instituted a
series of quotas on immigration. That 1921 Emergency Quota Actgave that, held up by the 1910
census; three per cent of a European nationality that resided in the U.S. would be permitted to enter
each year.
1924 s Johnson Reed Act lowered the quota to two per cent and used the 1890 census figures. It
also provided that in 1927 no more than 150,000 immigrants per year would be admitted on the
basis of their national origin. These quotas favored the Western European countries. No restrictions
were placed on Western Hemisphere countries such as Canada and Mexico. Asians were totally
excluded. Another feature the 1924 law provided was the partiality and non quota status given to
certain relatives of American citizens such as parents, children under twenty two, husbands and the
wives and children under eighteen. By the 30 s and 40 s the

We can safely state that no single theory of management is universally accepted today. To provide a
useful historical perspective that will guide our study of modern management, we shall discuss five
different approaches to management : (1) the universal process approach, (2) the operational
approach, (3) the behavioral approach, (4) the systems approach, and (5) the contingency approach.
Understanding these general approaches to the theory and practice of management can help you
appreciate how management has evolved, where it is today, and where it appears to be headed.
Each of the five approaches to management represents a different conceptual framework for better
understanding the practice of management.

The universal process approach is the oldest and one of the most popular approaches to
management thought. It is also known as the universalist or functional approach. According to the

To decide whether Jay Gatsby is a good man or not, one must define what a good man really is.
Although it is an extremely vague and layered term, a good man best fits the description of a man
whose intentions are never meant to harm anyone. In addition, readers must remember that the
Gatsby in the novel is Nick Carraway s version, and that is a very biased version. Yet, based off of
the events depicted in The Great Gatsby, I believe that Jay Gatsbyis a good man. Gatsby is not
formally introduced until chapter three, and due to his initial description, readers hold him in much
higher regard than other characters in the novel. Nick introduces Gatsby in an extremely intriguing
and flattering manner, saying, He smiled understandingly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Regardless of how one would go about arguing how Jay Gatsby is not a good man , he is
undeniably an embodiment of the American dream. Born James Gatz to two poor farmers in
the Midwest, Gatsby s imaginations had never really accepted them as his parents at all. The
truth was that Jay Gatsby ... sprang from his Platonic conception of himself. He was a son of
God ... to this conception he was faithful to the end (98). The notion of the self made man alone
is something that is honored within American society, and therefore, Jay Gatsby is an honorable
person. Parallel to Benjamin Franklin, Gatsby envisioned the perfect man and left home with
nothing in order to become that idealistic version of himself. Gatsby s similarity to Benjamin
Franklin is highlighted by Mr. Gatz with Gatsby s childhood schedule seemingly based off of
The Way to Wealth. Yet, being an honorable person alone does not make Gatsby a good man .
What does make Gatsby a good man though, is his outstanding selflessness. Despite the
immense wealth he gains, Jay Gatsby is always trying to do things for others, such as asking
Nick on his boat, or giving a random party goer an entirely new dress after ruining their original
dress at one of Gatsby s parties. Even in the case of Gatsby doing Nick favors, Gatsby does not
expect anything in return from Nick, but he does hope for a reconnection with Daisy. Part of what

Organization. During this time period 8,098 people worldwide became infected with SARS and out
of these 774 died. In the United States a total of 192 SARS cases had been reported, including 159

From the sequence scientists were able to determine that virus probably began its life in an animal
then mutated before picking up the power to infect people.
Transmission
SARS appears to spread by close person to person contact. It is thought that transmission is most
readily occurred through respiratory droplets. These can be produced when an infected person
coughs or sneezes. These droplets are propelled through the air and are deposited on the mucous
membranes of the mouth, nose, or eyes of a person that is nearby. It is also possible that the virus
can spread when a person touches a surface or object contaminated with infectious droplets and then
touches their mouth, nose, or eyes. Furthermore, it is possible that SARS CoV might be airborne
spread or by other methods that are not yet known.
Diagnosis
Once infected the typical incubation period for SARS is 2 7 days, however, in some cases it
may be as long as 10 days. The illness usually begins with a fever. Sometimes chills accompany
the fever and other symptoms including headache, general feeling of discomfort, and body aches.
Some people also develop mild respiratory symptoms at the outset. After the incubation period of 2
to 7 days SARS patients may develop a dry nonproductive cough that might be accompanied by or
progresses to the point where insufficient oxygen is getting to the blood. The CDC says that SARS

When dealing with Military allotments, Soldiers will go out and purchase lavish and expensive
items such as cars, furniture, computers and gaming systems with ridiculous interest rates. The
soldiers were allowed to walk into businesses and purchase items with no money down and take it
home the same day. With no cap on how many allotments a Soldier can have, he or she will
miscalculate their monthly spending and at the end of the month have no money left for
necessities. The Soldiers then cancel the allotments in turn failing to fulfill and obligation to pay
for their goods. Once the Soldier stop making payments, companies will then file for an involuntary
allotment to get their money. It is Department of Defense (DoD) policy that military members pay
their just financial obligations in a proper and timely manner. Creditors who have been awarded a
civil judgment against a military member may seek enforcement of the judgment by applying for an
involuntary allotment from the member s military pay . (Collecting a Debt, 2014) Mrs. George also
stated that so many Soldiers were getting suits filed against them that the Army started to
investigate the companies and found that the companies were targeting and taking advantage of
Soldiers and their families. On 1 June 2015, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel changed the policy

The War Of The Nazi Party
Although Berlin commanded that the operation was to be continued as planned, Best had one more
card to play. In a meeting between Best, Mildner, and the plenipotentiary s deputy and old friend,
SS BrigadefГјhrer Paul Kanstein, who would later be involved in the July 20, 1944 assassination
attempt on Hitler as the would be new head of the German security police, it was decided that a
warning should be issued to the Jewish community. This warning would be leaked by Best s
confidant, Georg Ferdinand Duckwitz.
Georg Ferdinand Duckwitz is a celebrated figure regarding Holocaust resistance and has been
recognized as one of the Righteous Among the Nations by Yad Vashem since 1971. He was born in
Bremen, Germany in 1904 and became involved in the international coffee trade after college,
spending much time in Scadinavia. He joined the Nazi Party in 1932 but later drifted away from the
movement. However, in 1939 the Foreign Ministry appointed him the German maritime attachГ©
stationed in Copenhagen, responsible for coordinating commercial shipping between the two
countries. As he had previously worked in Denmark before the war, his knowledge of Danish
affairs and their language made him a valuable asset. When Best arrived in Denmark in late
1942, he and Duckwitz soon became good friends. Their families were known to socialize
privately and Best trusted Duckwitz s counsel on Danish affairs. Duckwitz served as a confidant to

However, Socrates views went beyond these societal barriers by encouraging the practice of open

philosophers and the people through his use of words throughout the dialogues of Plato.
One of Socrates main argument that changed the way I looked at a particular subject was in the
dialogue, Phaedo which explains that the soul is alive prior to being born and it stays alive long
after you die. This made me contemplate about the afterlife, as I thought when you die theres
nothing left, but Socrates justifies that the soul is immortal. This changed my perception about the
meaning of life, the soul, and what does it means to die. The fear of death is such

World War I Predicted as the War to End all Wars
With the end of Great War in 1918, the world struggled to form a structure of peace that would
avoid another world conflagration. It was anticipated that World War I would be the war to end
all wars. President Woodrow Wilson was the primary leader to achieve this goal with his 14 Points
making and keeping the peace in the world. Albeit the Treaty of Versailles
amalgamated many of
Wilson s points, it struggled to be ratified in the Senate. The defeat of the Treaty of Versailles was
largely due to the Senate and popular opposition of the treaty.
Some might argue that President Wilson s actions and mindset was moderately to blame for the
failure of the Treaty of Versailles to persuade the Senate. After all, President Woodrow Wilson
refused to take any Republican Senators with him to the Paris Peace Conference. Additionally,
President Wilson held strong unwillingness to compromise during his whirlwind tour throughout
the nation to gain support for the treaty, until when he suffered a stroke and collapsed from the
public view. However, these mistakes of Wilson seem very miniscule when compared to the
immense impact the opposition of the public and the Senate had on the defeat of the Treaty of
Versailles.
Still previous to his downfall, President Wilson s assertions that the Founding Father envisioned
America as the light of the world created to lead the world and protect rights of people and free
nations (Doc. F). On the other hand, this contradicts the American institution

Separation Of P-Acetamidobenzoic Acid
The objective of this procedure is to produce a sample of p acetamidobenzoic acid from the
oxidation of p acetotoluidide with potassium permanganate.
Procedure Part A Preparation of p Acetamidobenzoic Acid
In a 250 mL Erlenmeyer Flask, 5 g (0.02 mol) of magnesium sulfate crystals were mixed with 1.9
g (0.013 mol) of p acetotoluidide in 125 mL of de ionized water. The resulting solution was
placed on a hot plate and was steadily boiled until the solution reached 85В°C, or until the solution
reached a gentle boil (it was emphasized that the solution should be heated slowly, in order to
maximize the efficiency of the reaction). While this was occurring, a separate solution was
prepared from 5.1 g (0.032 mol) of potassium permanganate and 20 mL of boiling water, which
were placed in a separate 250 mL beaker, which was placed on a slowly heating hot plate (in
order to keep the solution as warm as possible, but not warm enough that the water could
evaporate). It was observed that this solution was characterized by a very distinct purple color, and
a small amount of precipitate could be observed at the bottom of the beaker. Once the p
acetotoluidide solution had reached a gentle boil, it was vigorously stirred with a stirring rod, and
every so often (about every 5 minutes) a small portion of the potassium permanganate solution was
added to the solution; at this point, it was emphasized that the potassium permanganate solution, or
the oxidizing agent, should be added in small

  • 2. My Journey To The World Essay Gateway To The World Traveling isn t in everyone s favor, but it sure is in mine. British novelist, Lawrence Durrell once quoted, Travel can be one of the most rewarding forms of introspection. The reason I enjoy traveling is because it takes me on a journey for finding my inner self. Before traveling, I ve always been closed minded at how I viewed the world, but once I got a bigger look at how the world works, my thoughts and I, myself have changed. It all begins on a sweltering day in Schertz, Texas. My mom had received a phone call that was certain to come at some point. The person on the other side of the phone informed her that we would have to travel to Turkey and live there for 2 years. Since I was 5 years old at the time, I thought traveling to foreign countries every now and then was normal for every family. There were trucks coming and going, suit case zippers zipping, and chaos all around me. One month later, I m was on a plane headed to this unknown country that was too far away for the impatient self that I am. Eager to march out of the plane, I was at last at the final destination. As I looked around the AdanaAirport, people looked different and their clothing was divergent as they wore dilapidated shirts and pants. Entering the real world of Turkey, transportation mainly consisted of grimy metro buses and bikes. The atmosphere smelled like thousands of Burger King Whoppers were trampled on with a side of six week old onion rings. After all the luggage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Tim Draper s Business Analysis As one recent article on the West Valley database noted, venture capitalist investor, Tim Draper, is proposing a voter initiative on Congress to split California into 6 states. Today, researchers have been observing areas of California that place either greater or lesser importance on decisions about laws, taxes, and public policy, thus some counties are lacking in affordable housing and quality infrastructure. The fact that our statelies between the top ten worst governments to do business with was sufficient reason for Tim Draper s plan to balance Californias resources by dividing it into 6 sovereign states. According to Draper, since California demonstrates many subjects of interest different from other states, it could be a solution to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At that level of organization, each state can join the discussion for creating their own laws, electing new officials, and focus upon serious priorities such as environmental concerns and helping people understand the water crisis. For instance, Todd Fitchett s position on Fresno and Tulare counties most demanding issue of the year, record high water prices, is distrustful of California s current economic policy. His article, Time for a Fresh Approach to Helping People Under the Water Crisis , argues that rising water prices carries over to consumers paying higher prices for produce, tree nuts, and dairy, therefore all of these commodities have serious potential to be further increased. In making an argument for dividing California into 6 states, that movement of unity primarily based on being apart of a new state will be opportunistic for people to save more water, or else millions of Americans will face the forces of a crashing agricultural ... • 4. Vivaldi Instrumedeley Analysis The two concerts I have chosen are different in many ways, but the music itself has a lot in common. For the first concert I chose the progressive rock group Dream Theater. I chose the piece Instrumedley from their Live at Budokan video released in 2004. This video depicts the band setup on stage in the typical rock concertformat. The lighting is bright and multicolored. Unlike most rock concerts, the musicians do not animate themselves to excite the crowd. They rely on the mastery of their instruments to provide the excitement. The second concert is a performance of Vivaldi s Concerto Grosso in D minor. It is performed by the Franz Listz Chamber Orchestra. The setting is that of a small gothic church in Hungary. There is no audience as the venue is used solely for the acoustics. The band Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band formed in 1985. The members met while attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Their music focuses on three core elements: metal, progressive roots and melody. Dream Theater has been known to make use of elements of other musical styles to include classical music. The piece I selected, Instrumedely , is a mash up of instrumental sections from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was a master violinist. He wrote church music and more than 40 operas. He is widely known for his pieces for string orchestra. One of his most famous of these is his set of concertos for solo violin and orchestra named Four Seasons. The Vivaldi concerto was pure joy to listen to. The opening sequence is entrancing as the two violins tend to echo off one another. The acoustics of the gothic church lend itself perfectly to the style of music. The details in the melody are clearly heard while there is a rich bass sound thanks to the echo of the church. I found the piece to be rather relaxing while being impressed by the complexity. It is no surprise that so many modern guitarists borrow heavy from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Role Of Christ s Body And The Relics Of Bodies Essay Bodies, living and dead, play an immense role in Christianity. The body and the relics of bodies are actually able to become places where one can have direct contact with God, but only if there are sanctified (Nachaj, Lecture 12). There are many examples of ways to sanctification including but not limited to, celibacy, poverty, martyrdom, preaching and spreading the gospel, leading communities through teachings, and performing miracles (Nachaj, Lecture 12). Many of these important practices and ways of living are discussed in the following paper including the importance of JesusChrist (in his living and dead form), martyrs such an Julian of Norwich, shrines, relics, and monks and nuns. In most cases provided, it is explained how to body is a sin like possession that Christians are constantly trying to strive away from but this is proved wrong through way of looking at God s creations. By far, one of the most prominent bodies to playa role in Christian teaching and practice would be that of Jesus the Christ s body; in physical and spiritual form. Jesus was seen as being both human, in the flesh, and God, in the spirit (Nachaj, Lecture 12). For Christians, Jesus is seen in direct relation of God as either sharing a father son relationship with him, or as actually being the bodied version of God himself. Christianity s central doctrines the incarnation, the crucifixion, the resurrection and its essential rituals baptism and communion are all theological assertions in ... • 6. Similarities Between Good Night And Good Luck In The Crucible Arthur Miller s The Crucible, has many unique and complicated characters, purposed to show the severe injustice of the Joseph McCarthy trials in the 1950 s. The injustices created by these trails creates many different conflicts, both internal and external between many different characters. A similar motif is expressed in George Clooney s Good Night and Good Luck. Arthur Miller uses many different characters to show the chaos the trails created, by relating it to the story of the Salem Witch Trials. The characters of John Proctor and Reverend Hale both resemble different ways of dealing with internal conflict. John Proctor, had a struggle between his head and his heart. For Example, after he heard of the trials, he had an internal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Salem witch trials cause confusion among people, because it forces them to question their beliefs, which are the basis of their entire lifestyle in Salem. Reverend Hale, coming to Salem believes he is doing good, and helping to destroy the devil, but as the trials progress, we learn that he is doubtful of his faith. Arthur Miller masterfully shows the counterproductiveness of the trials. The purpose of the trials was to preserve the people of Salem, but it actually achieves to opposite by destroying people s belief in their beliefs. During the trial scene, Arthur Miller also uses the character of Mary Warren to show confusion. Mary Warren knows the truth, but she manages to convince herself otherwise. In Act three, during the court scene, there are a few solid moments, where Mary Warren is unsure of her own beliefs, and of what she saw, or didn t see. Another example of this is in Good Night and Good Luck by George Clooney when Edward R Murrow is unsure if he should continue his quest to end the Joseph McCarthy trials. His boss seems to be unhappy with his program on CBS, and he is unsure of what to do. Finally, an example of this confusion caused by the trials is illustrated in Elizabeth Proctor, when she differs from her beliefs to state that she doesn t believe in witches. In Puritan society, witches were the ultimate evil. In some ways, they were a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Laertes Foil Of Hamlet Hamlet is a play by William Shakespeare that follows Hamlet as his father is murdered by his uncle Claudius, who marries Hamlet s mother and claims the throne. Hamlet takes a very deliberate and pensive approach to gaining revenge. In this slow process, he accidentally murders Polonius, thinking him to be the King eavesdropping. This leads to the wrath of Laertes, who takes a very different approach to revenge. Through Laertes foil of Hamlet, the futility of passionate revenge is revealed. Both Laertes and Hamlet experience similar events in their lives. Both men lose their father to murder. Both men know who murdered their father, and both men desire revenge. High level encryption or cryptography is used in a number of applications ranging from those which impact national security to those which are more mundane. Essentially, cryptography is the methodology of encoding information so that one s privacy is ensured. This is particularly important when it comes to transactionswhich occur over the Internet. The risk of individuals gaining access to personal informationor information which is critical to a country or a nation over the Internet is a very real one. Some information we transmit and receive through the Internet is trivial, other is critical from either a personal, business or national perspective. Without some form of encryption this information could not only fall into the wrong hands but it could also be read and manipulated by those who intercepted it. This, according to the type of information, could be disastrous from either a personal, business, or national perspective. It could be presumed that intellectual property which currently belongs to its Creator would be freely disseminated around the globe with no practical way to control who saw it or how they utilized it (anonymous, http://www.cs.brown.edu/). Part D Proposed Solutions There are two possible solutions to the security of data on the Internet. These are TCP/IP and Cryptography. TCP/IP sessions can be captured, however, by unauthorized personnel using devises such as IP packet sniffers (Computer Reseller News PG). I believe that the author s carefully chosen name of Luna for the Grandmother was in fact to show the reader that our death is inevitable but our rebirth in terms of happiness is changeable. Other consider Mary Shelley s mother, Mary Wollstonecraft, and her father, William Godwin to be the actual villains. Victor is a monster for creating the creature and subsequently abandoning it. Victor had an infatuation with wanting to play God, most likely inspired by the many alchemists of the time. As soon as the creature breathed his first breath, Victor hated and was disgusted by it. The creature never was able to experience the love and affection he so deserved. It was because of this that the creature did some negative actions. They were in response to feeling unloved. The creature can be considered the monster because he kills William. He justified killing William by acknowledging that William had taunted him and the creature only did it when realized that William was related to Victor, the man that abandoned and made him feel ugly. Both Victor and William were apart of a society that was close minded. They didn t appreciate anyone being different. This may be an impact of the rifts that are created over time due to the imminent cultural and linguistic differences within the society. A good example is the divide and rule policy. In 1822, Stamford Raffles devised a town plan with the purpose of remodeling Singapore into a modern city. He set a divide and rule whereby ethnic zones were marked out for each ethnic group for residential purposes. Such policies may result in the difficulty to maintain social cohesion and understanding between the people of different backgrounds. The rain and snow become a catalyst to warm and join the broken hearts. Lovers admire this month for rekindling their lost dreams. December is the month of Christmas, the month of the birth of a great prophet JESUS. This prophet of peace loved his enemies and comforted them all. Jesus always stood with poor and disenfranchised, fed and healed them, preached against the power bases of society and government and refused to draw weapons against the Roman soldiers when they came to arrest him. He knew that making an enemy is not the way to make friends since making enemies has predictable consequences, the enemies naturally fight back, he urged for kindness and forgiveness. The believers kept alive the gesture and upheld the values he taught. JESUS knew the world was but a hell without love and compassion. Hence, he transacted his life for love and erased the sins of others. Muslims around the world adulate the impact this magnificent prophet created in human history that condemned hatred and violence. Muslim also treats the followers of JESUS as the right people of the holy book. Farmers now must find a way to grow crops in an economical fashion while also maximizing each yield as much as possible. However, plant growth can be influenced by seedvariety, the amount of water, the soil type, amount of light, etc., and many other variables. For this experiment, we are testing the growth of the Brassica rapa, a mustard plant under the same conditions of water, sunlight, and oxygen, with two different treatment solutions. There will be two pots, one has a treatment of just deionized water and the other a treatment of fertilizer as well as deionized water. Because the fertilizer has the added benefit of nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium along with the same quantity of deionized water as the first pot, it is hypothesized that both sets of plants will grow, however the pot with fertilizer will grow more than the pot with just water treatment. In the Fertilizer Responses of Volunteer Longleaf PineTrees within a Loblolly Pine Plantation: Separating Direct Effects from Competition Effects paper, an experiment on the effect of fertilization on two trees was done. The Puritan view of life itself was considered to be allegorical, their theology rested primarily on the idea of predestination and the separation of the saved and the damned As evident from Hawthorne s writings his intense interest in Puritanical beliefs often carried over to his novels such as, Young Goodman Brown, The Scarlet Letter, and The Minister s Black Veil just to name a few of the more well known pieces of his work.... Both men Dante and Young Goodman Brown embark on a somewhat spiritual journey and come out of it with an insight that they never possessed before relating to the world and their beliefs. Young Goodman Brown had the allegorical elements similar to Dante s Inferno with the use of color, ambiguous statements and the representation of objects. An example of this type of ambiguity of language is when the old man convinces Goodman Brown to come with him: Let us walk on, nevertheless, reasoning as we go, and if I convince thee not, thou shalt turn back. We are but a little way in the forest yet (Hawthorne 615) This statement can be taken one of two ways, either for the literal sense in which the old man is urging him to come or for the allegorical way in which this shows Goodman Brown has a choice in his destiny to make the right decision and turn his back on Satan when he sees God s way is better. Upon returning home Goodman Brown comes to the realization that all the people that meant most in his life that he believed were righteous, upstanding, God fearing citizens were all guilty of being influenced by the devil. Whether he dreamed this or not what happened to him in the forest changed his life in such a dramatic way that it compels him to live the rest of it out in gloom and despair as evident from this paragraph: Often, awakening suddenly at midnight, he shrank from the bosom of Faith, and at morning or eventide, when the family knelt down at prayer, he ... Cleopatra sailed to Tarus dressed in the robes of Isis and in an elaborate ship. Antony was seduced by her charms. He agreed to protect Egypt and Cleopatra s crown. Later Cleopatra returned to Egypt and a bit later so did Antony, who left his third wife and their three children in Rome. Shortly after Antony returned to Rome Cleopatra gave birth to twins, Alexander Helios (sun) and Cleopatra Selene (moon). Antony s wife fell ill and died and Antony was forced to prove his loyalty Octavian and marry his half sister Octavia. Antony met again and became lovers again, and Cleopatra gave birth to another son, Ptolemy Philadelphos. The Debate Over Nozick s Experiment Thought Machine I.Introduction In what may seem a harsh generalization, I would like to begin by considering the likelihood that a Christian would commit suicide? On first inclination we know that they would not because they perceive suicide to be a sin. Even with a less nuanced version we know that in spite of the belief of heaven and a perfect afterlife there has not been a wide scale mass extinction of Christians any time lately. In asking a person this it is more than likely that they would likely they were being played a joke on. My point is to say, in a sense, this is similar to why we see time and time again philosophers in debate over Nozick s experiment thought machine. We see philosophers like Nozick advocate that a life plugged into the machine is not in fact a life at all, and that if people were to be given the option to stay plugged into this machine that provided them endless bliss they still would not take it. If the question of why would a person not chose to plug into the experience machine is not clear, I once again bring up the idea of a Christian committing suicide, which may people may find incredulous. Why is it that it would be incredulous for a Christian to chose to live another life of more happiness, yet it would not be so for someone to plug into Nozick s own experience thought machine? If Nozick s experience machine ultimately offers happiness through a chosen series of experiences and the gist/selling point of heaven is that there everything you would want ... • 34. Naco Culture Of Fear Essay When reporting on terrorism, the media function as a double edged sword. They assure terrorists that their grievances will receive public attention; yet they also can mobilize public opinion against the arbitrary use of violence by stripping terrorism of its romantic veneer and exposing its violent underpinnings to public scrutiny.20 The proposed general industry guidelines should minimize the harms from publicizing terrorist events while maximizing the speech interests vital to a democratic society (Moffitt, 1998). In previous decades, the journalistic mission was to report the news as it actually happened, with fairness, balance, and integrity; Profit gaining motives associated with journalism have forced much of today s television news to look to the spectacular, the stirring, and the controversial as news stories. It s no longer a race to break the story first or get the facts right. Instead, it s to acquire good ratings in order to get advertisers, so that profits soar. The goals of terrorists are not solely confined to winning the attention of the masses. In addition to that, through the media, they aim to publicize their political causes, inform both friends and foes about the motives for terrorist deeds, and explain their rationale for resorting to violence... New York City, I still cannot believe it. I begin to hear a soft hum in my ears that quickly increases in volume. I open my eyes and I am suddenly brought back to reality as the train rushes by, its horn blowing loud and strong. The train slows to a stop and the doors open. All at once a massive crowd of people rush off of the subway. Those of us standing on the platform push through the crowd, praying that our massive group of dancers will all make it onto the train. Due to the morning rushhour there is not a seat in sight and there is barely any room to stand. As the train lurches forward we struggle to stay standing. I look out of the window and watch the flashes of graffiti on the dark walls as we charge forward. The train stops and starts three times. Each station just as chaotic as the last. We quickly approach our fourth stop, West 4th Street, the nerves begin to kick in. The train slows to a stop and once again we push through the morning foot traffic. We follow the signs towards the West 8th Street exit, struggling to stay together. I think to myself, whatever happens, don t lose sight of the chaperone. As we approach the stairwell the air begins to feel cooler. We reach the top of the stairs and the entire atmosphere changes. The Entente Cordiale of 1904 can certainly be seen as a key turning point, along with other factors such as Neville Chamberlain s policy of appeasement, the Cuban Missile Crisis and the SALT I and II agreements. The signing of the Entente Cordiale in 1904 epitomised the ever growing division on the European stage in the early 1900s, and certainly contributed to a pre war alliance which precipitated the outbreak of World War One. At the time, the highly unlikely signing of an Anglo French agreement can be seen by Gavin as a, construct as an affront towards Germany . However, from the point of German interests, they had no objections to the treaty and had no reason to suppose that the alliance was directed against any one power. The period of Britain s largely mythical splendid isolation , formally ending by the 1902 Anglo Japanese Alliance, Britain began to expand its relations with European countries. The signing of the Entente Cordiale can certainly suggest that Germany ought to be concerned, and is certainly significant when determining any alteration in the relationships of the powers and shift in the balance of power. • 38. The Debate Of Knowledge And Belief The topic of knowledge and belief has been a subject of investigation and a primary field in philosophical research for centuries. Whether it was Aristotle or Descartes, multiple ideas on knowledge and belief arise, such as the epistemological theories of foundationalism or coherentism, which provide philosophical explanations to this debate. For the sake of this essay, and in my own opinion, knowledge should be distinguished from belief. Everyone is subject to different types of beliefs based on upbringing, however knowledge of basic items is universal, therefore it immediately becomes apparent that there is a clear distinction between the two concepts. Aristotle proposes an argument called the Regress argument, (Wrenn) this argument is essentially the debate of knowledge versus belief using the epistemological theories of knowledge. Aristotle takes the side of foundationalism based on the simple fact that it defends knowledge and it that knowledge requires basic justified beliefs. In the argument it states that coherentism is simply beliefs supported by other beliefs therefore leading to no concrete knowledge behind the beliefs. For example, if I say that next month is the April, it is justified by two other beliefs, that this month is March and the month after April is May (Delaney, 1976). This example displays that for justification of coherentism it is simply derived from further beliefs. However, for foundationalism, all beliefs are justified, which we can ... Once the Soldier stop making payments, companies will then file for an involuntary allotment to get their money. It is Department of Defense (DoD) policy that military members pay their just financial obligations in a proper and timely manner. Creditors who have been awarded a civil judgment against a military member may seek enforcement of the judgment by applying for an involuntary allotment from the member s military pay . (Collecting a Debt, 2014) Mrs. George also stated that so many Soldiers were getting suits filed against them that the Army started to investigate the companies and found that the companies were targeting and taking advantage of Soldiers and their families. On 1 June 2015, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel changed the policy pertaining to military allotments. The new policy prohibits service ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. The War Of The Nazi Party Although Berlin commanded that the operation was to be continued as planned, Best had one more card to play. In a meeting between Best, Mildner, and the plenipotentiary s deputy and old friend, SS BrigadefГјhrer Paul Kanstein, who would later be involved in the July 20, 1944 assassination attempt on Hitler as the would be new head of the German security police, it was decided that a warning should be issued to the Jewish community. This warning would be leaked by Best s confidant, Georg Ferdinand Duckwitz. Georg Ferdinand Duckwitz is a celebrated figure regarding Holocaust resistance and has been recognized as one of the Righteous Among the Nations by Yad Vashem since 1971. He was born in Bremen, Germany in 1904 and became involved in the international coffee trade after college, spending much time in Scadinavia. He joined the Nazi Party in 1932 but later drifted away from the movement. However, in 1939 the Foreign Ministry appointed him the German maritime attachГ© stationed in Copenhagen, responsible for coordinating commercial shipping between the two countries. As he had previously worked in Denmark before the war, his knowledge of Danish affairs and their language made him a valuable asset. When Best arrived in Denmark in late 1942, he and Duckwitz soon became good friends. Their families were known to socialize privately and Best trusted Duckwitz s counsel on Danish affairs. Duckwitz served as a confidant to Best, who clearly valued valued his friend s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Phaedo Socrates Research Paper However, Socrates views went beyond these societal barriers by encouraging the practice of open mindedness. I firmly believe that Socrates is an admirable and inspirational figure to both philosophers and the people through his use of words throughout the dialogues of Plato. One of Socrates main argument that changed the way I looked at a particular subject was in the dialogue, Phaedo which explains that the soul is alive prior to being born and it stays alive long after you die. This made me contemplate about the afterlife, as I thought when you die theres nothing left, but Socrates justifies that the soul is immortal. This changed my perception about the meaning of life, the soul, and what does it means to die. The fear of death is such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. World War I Predicted as the War to End all Wars With the end of Great War in 1918, the world struggled to form a structure of peace that would avoid another world conflagration. It was anticipated that World War I would be the war to end all wars. President Woodrow Wilson was the primary leader to achieve this goal with his 14 Points making and keeping the peace in the world. Albeit the Treaty of Versailles amalgamated many of Wilson s points, it struggled to be ratified in the Senate. The defeat of the Treaty of Versailles was largely due to the Senate and popular opposition of the treaty. Some might argue that President Wilson s actions and mindset was moderately to blame for the failure of the Treaty of Versailles to persuade the Senate. After all, President Woodrow Wilson refused to take any Republican Senators with him to the Paris Peace Conference. Additionally, President Wilson held strong unwillingness to compromise during his whirlwind tour throughout the nation to gain support for the treaty, until when he suffered a stroke and collapsed from the public view. However, these mistakes of Wilson seem very miniscule when compared to the immense impact the opposition of the public and the Senate had on the defeat of the Treaty of Versailles. Still previous to his downfall, President Wilson s assertions that the Founding Father envisioned America as the light of the world created to lead the world and protect rights of people and free nations (Doc. F). On the other hand, this contradicts the American institution ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Separation Of P-Acetamidobenzoic Acid The objective of this procedure is to produce a sample of p acetamidobenzoic acid from the oxidation of p acetotoluidide with potassium permanganate. Procedure Part A Preparation of p Acetamidobenzoic Acid In a 250 mL Erlenmeyer Flask, 5 g (0.02 mol) of magnesium sulfate crystals were mixed with 1.9 g (0.013 mol) of p acetotoluidide in 125 mL of de ionized water. The resulting solution was placed on a hot plate and was steadily boiled until the solution reached 85В°C, or until the solution reached a gentle boil (it was emphasized that the solution should be heated slowly, in order to maximize the efficiency of the reaction). While this was occurring, a separate solution was prepared from 5.1 g (0.032 mol) of potassium permanganate and 20 mL of boiling water, which were placed in a separate 250 mL beaker, which was placed on a slowly heating hot plate (in order to keep the solution as warm as possible, but not warm enough that the water could evaporate). It was observed that this solution was characterized by a very distinct purple color, and a small amount of precipitate could be observed at the bottom of the beaker. Once the p acetotoluidide solution had reached a gentle boil, it was vigorously stirred with a stirring rod, and every so often (about every 5 minutes) a small portion of the potassium permanganate solution was added to the solution; at this point, it was emphasized that the potassium permanganate solution, or the oxidizing agent, should be added in small ...
