Themes Of Greed In Adam Mitchell s Cloud Atlas
Cloud Atlas is a book composed of six different writings from a multitude of writers such as Adam
Ewing, Cavendish, Sonmi, and Frobisher. These stories are written in a different time period but show
a lot of the same ideals and themes. There are many themes that present themselves in cloud atlas but
the one that appealed to me most was greed. Mitchell did a very good job in showing greed in each of
the chapters in a variety of different ways whether it was a minimal or large amount. In addition, the
author also related both the future and the past to the current time to show what is arguably the worst
characteristic one can have. I believe that Mitchell chose the theme of greed to show that all humans
will do nearly anything to satisfy their personal needs and wants. While reading Cloud Atlas I realized
that there is at least minimal traces of greed in each writing. The writing of Adam Ewing, Luisa Rey,
Sonmi 451, and Cavendish expressed the most greed out of the six.

Contention on law began early into the colonization period. Originally the Royal Proclamation of
1763, set by the British Crown, was in place to protect the land rights of Canadian Aboriginals (UBC

the Aboriginals (UBC Law, 2009). Ultimately, the proclamation meant that there was Crown
recognition of land ownership, and that Aboriginal authority would continue under North Americas

This review of the literature will be about the topic of sex trafficking. My research process involved
searching for information on sex trafficking and also human trafficking as a whole. I investigated a
great deal of different sources and used many websites of organizations dedicated to spreading
awareness on sex trafficking and working toward hindering it. I also researched using non fiction
books regarding sex trafficking, including works sharing the experiences of real victims and survivors
of trafficking. A common frustration that I had when researching was finding sources with accurate

In his Commencement speech at the Kenyon University, David Foster Wallace states that humanity as
a whole is oblivious to the obvious things in life and has a close mindedness that amounts to an
