Environmental Engineering And Its Alternative Technologies
Environmental Engineering in Our Society
Giselle Medrano Environmental Engineering
Giselle Medrano
Sixth Grade
Abstract Environmental engineering is a broad field that is used to improve environmental
conditions. It is pursued with different types of engineering and sciences. I will be talking about
several things in my essay. First, I will introduce the essay by discussing the history of
environmental engineering and its alternative technologies. Second, I will go deeper into the
description of environmental engineering. Third, I will explain how and why it s beneficial. Fourth,
I will identify some engineers that developed environmental engineering. Fifth, I will describe how
this technology impacts society. Finally, I will conclude the essay by summarizing the future of this
technology and including my opinion about possible new applications.
Environmental engineering has impacted our society a lot. It has been used as early as 3400 BC.
For example, Egyptians used irrigation for when the Nile flooded, and Romans used aqueducts for
military objectives. Since then, the technology of environmental engineering has greatly evolved.
Environmental engineering helps us to make our environment safer and better. Environmental
engineering is a broad field that uses scientific principles to improve environmental conditions. It is
pursued with geology, different types of engineering, ecology, biology, chemistry, environmental
law, and public health. From making buildings

Collective Muke Ministry
A Milwaukee pastor has decided to go beyond the church norms by using beer and local pubs to
lure Christians and atheists alike into discussions about faith.
Many church leaders are currently trying to adapt to the culture of the young people in order to
reach out to them with the Gospel by going beyond the traditional means of evangelizing. In an
interview with Munchies, Pastor Brandon Brown of Collective MKE church in Milwaukee
explained what his Jesus Beer ministry is all about.
When asked about what the Bible says about beer, Pastor Brown said the Scripture instructs people
not to get drunk because it makes them do bad things. However, the Milwaukee pastor pointed out
that the Bible does not specifically say that drinking is bad, and

David s Change In Montana 1948 By Larry Watson
David Hayden, an innocent 12 year old boy takes a journey from boy to man. Along the way
realising not all people are good, and those that are can do bad things. Montana 1948 is a historical
novel written by Larry Watson. It depicts the hard, cold landscapes of Montana during the summer
of 1948, and the familyvs. justice conflict, the Hayden family experiences. David at the beginning
of the story is childish in many ways and is until he starts to become entangled in the adult world.
When the magpie is shot by David, it becomes the symbol for David s change. At the beginning of
the text, David possesses many childish traits; slowly becoming entangled with the adult world,

Hacker And How We Can Defend Ourselves Against Them
The term hacker and how we can defend ourselves against them
In today s society, the term hacker is very well known across the world. It is scary to know that you
are being a victim of any individual who works with remote computers. People who use
unauthorized entries to other computers through communication networks such as the Internet, are
known as hacker. Since the technology has improved, all people should have information about
hackers and how we can protect our systems against them.
Where was this term born? The term hacker comes from an idea derived from a community of
computer programmers and systems designers, in the 1960s around the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology s, Tech Model Railroad Club and MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. A hacker is a
person who secretly gets access to a computer system in order to get information. They create
programs that are so complex, even the best programmers cannot conceive them. Many of the
hackers are probably between fourteen and eighteen years old. They earn a lot of money stealing
important information; also, they steal because they are paid for doing it; but, many people have
become their prey causing them emotional disturbances. They use many ways of stealing.
Since 1997, companies have received hacker attacks in their systems, making some lose a
significant amount of money. With this history attacks it is now important to find a method to
combat them. They work stealing our passwords, using the process

The Extent to Which Psychological Theories Have Been...
The Extent to Which Psychological Theories Have Been Successful in Explaining Attachments
There are various psychological theories to regard as which have been successful in explaining
attachments and I will be explaining the majority of them.
Sigmund Freud developed a theory of personality an explanation of how each individual s
personality develops. This theory can be used to explain many aspects of behaviour, including
attachment.
Feud proposed that attachment grows out of the feeding relationship. In essence Freud claimed that
infants are born with an innate drive to seek pleasure. He called this the pleasure principle, and
suggested that one structure of the personality (id) was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The relationship with the primary caregiver acts as a template for all later relationships
However, the classic experiments of Harry Harlow (1959) on rhesus monkeys demonstrated that this
theory was inadequate. This study concerned rhesus monkeys who were raised on their own by
two wire mothers . One wire mother had a feeding bottle attached and the other and the other was
wrapped in soft cloth but offered no cloth. According to the learning theory, the young monkeys
should have become attached to the mother associated with food and offering drive reduction. In
fact, the monkeys spent most time with the cloth covered mother and would cling to it especially
when they were frightened.
These studies suggest that cupboard love is not likely to be an explanation for attachment, though
we must remember that this research concerned monkeys and it may not be wholly appropriate to
generalise the findings to human behaviour.
Schaffer and Emerson (1964) conducted an important study observing the development of
attachments in 60 infants who came largely from working class homes in Glasgow. The infants
were observed over a period of a year in their homes.
The results of the study proved that infants were not most attached to the person who fed them, nor
to the person who spent most time with them. They were most attached to the person who was most
responsive and interacted

Legalizing Marijuana, An Ethical Perspective
Legalizing Marijuana: An Ethical Perspective
In today s society, many ethical concerns arise on a daily basis, especially when it comes to the
topic of legalizing marijuana. Many individuals have relied on the fact that marijuana was illegal,
when determining whether smoking it should be considered unethical. However, many studies
have shown that the effects of marijuana are not as detrimental as they were once made out to be.
Legalizing marijuana can be an extremely controversial topic because several people have strong
beliefs concerning why it should not be legalized, while a significant amount of people have
stronger arguments, as to why it should be legalized. When it comes to looking at the ethical
standpoint of legalizing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another principle includes restrictions on driving while under the influence of marijuana. NORML
stated, Although cannabis is said by most experts to be safer than alcohol and many prescription
drugs with motorists, responsible cannabis consumers never operate motor vehicles in an impaired
condition (NORML, 1996, para, 6). Therefore, the no driving principle is implied. These are two
of the most significant principles presented by NORML.
The next principle is described as set and setting. The NORML organization states, The
responsible cannabis user will carefully consider his/her set and setting, regulating use
accordingly (NORML, 1996, para. 7). Meaning, adults should be responsible enough, when using
marijuana, to take into consideration several different aspects of one s life. For instance, it is
important for marijuana users to consider his or her set, meaning the individual s attitude,
personality, and experience. The term setting refers to an individual s physical and social
condition or circumstances (NORML, 1996, para. 8). Therefore, individuals should consider and
analyze a number of factors before choosing to smoke or just choosing to just say no. Two other
principles presented by NORML include resisting abuse and respecting the rights of others.
Therefore, individuals should steer clear of any sign of abuse and should not violate the rights of
others when

What Are The Main Learning Theories
The purpose of this essay is to show an understanding of the main learning theories. This assessment
will allow the chance to begin applying these theories in a classroom setting by using an essay that
analyses teaching practice within classroom. By looking further into the statement Effective
teachers need a range of strategies to ensure that students learn . Crucially using personal beliefs
about learningas well as teaching to reflect on these beliefs as well as considering their influence of
developmental factors within the classroom.
Learning as a whole can be quite different, ranging from memorisation of classroom information,
all the way to being able to connect idea s together, perform complex activities. As well as
interacting with others. While it is important to know that learning is important to the core of the
system, it can be very hard to come up with a simple clear cut understanding of what learning is.
Learning can include a variety of procedures. It can look at meaning different things to
individuals, and can be viewed differently by students, teachers as well as at times by cultures.
Whilst this can make it hard to come up with an understanding of what learning is factors that may
be used to assist this include, a change in any individual s knowledge, the ability to perform set
skills, as well as the ability to participate in an activity with other individuals.
It is also important to understand the different types of learning that can occur. Deep and

The Terracotta Warriors Of Emperor Qin Shihaung s Real Army
The Terracotta Warriors were discovered in Xian, China in 1974 by a group of local farmers. Each
figure demonstrates a high degree of individualism, and when first discovered historians questioned
whether the soldiers were modelled on Emperor Qin Shihuang s actual army. This theory is still
being investigated today, but with archaeological technologies constantly evolving, historians are
analysing the so called Eighth Wonder of the World and are obtaining evidence to both support and
discount this theory. For now though, the question remains: were the Terracotta Warriors portraits
of Emperor Qin Shihaung s real army? A study, called Imperial Logistics, was undertaken in 2014
by a group of scholars from the Institute of Archaeology at University College London and
archaeologists from the Emperor Qin Shihuang s Mausoleum Site Museum in Xian, China. The
research team used new technology to allow a more thorough morphometric analysis of the
Terracotta Warriors than had been achieved previously. The technology, a combination of structure
from motion and multiview stereo (SfM MVS), allowed the research team to create three
dimensional reconstructions of the ears of thirty terracotta warriors, as seen in Source 1. While the
source only displays twelve ears, it demonstrates the shape and size variations the archaeologists
found. Ears have been regarded as unique to each individual as fingerprints, and therefore Source 1
suggests that the Terracotta Warriors were likely portraits

The Importance Of Essential For Healthy Family Functioning...
According to Professor Rick Peterson, there are five essential roles essential to healthy family
functioning, they include providing resources, support and nurturing, development of life skills
(especially for young children), maintenance and management of the family system, and sexual
gratification between spouses. (Peterson and Green) In this section we re going to look at how
these are incorporated into the familys instrumental functioning and their expressive functioning.
Instrumental Functioning As stated earlier in the paper, this family is very set in old traditions.
EM stays home with the kids all day while RM goes to work. While at home EM cooks for the
kids, cleans the house, takes care of the dog, and makes sure the household runs smoothly. They
have decided to homeschool their children when they get a little older, so she is also preparing
information and supplies for that.
Since the kids don t go to daycare, EM has to make sure that they have some interaction
throughout the day, so she brings them on walks to the park. Their daily routine is waking up
and having EM cook everyone breakfast. She packs a lunch for RM and he grabs it before
heading out the door. Once the kids are done eating, EM starts cleaning the house and EJM and
HM are sent outside to play. Then comes lunch time, which according to EM is the craziest part
of the day! The kids are tired and crabby and there is still so much to do. After the kids are done

Doctrine of Double Effect Essay
Alecia Rhines
Doctrine of Double Effect
Trident University
What is the Doctrine of Double Effect?
The doctrine of double effect if often invoked to explain the permissibility of an action that
causes a serious harm, such as the death of a human being, as a side effect of promoting good
ends. It is claimed that sometimes it is permissible to cause such harm as a side effect of bringing
about a good result even though it would not be permissible to cause such harm as a means to
bringing about the same good end. The reasoning is summarized with the claim that sometimes it is
permissible to bring about as merely foreseen side effect a harmful event that it would be
impermissible to bring about intentionally (Uniacke 1984). It is not ... Show more content on

* The action must be appropriate (a): I also have to give the patient the right medicine. If I give the

appropriate (b): I also have to give the patient the right medicine for their symptoms. If I give the
patient a fatal dose of pain killing drugs, it is no use saying that my intention was to relieve their
symptoms of pain if the patient was not suffering from pain but from breathlessness. * The
patient must be in a terminal condition: if I give the patient a fatal dose of pain killing drugs and
they would have recovered from their disease or injury if I had not given them the drugs, it is no
use saying that my intention was to relieve their pain. And that applies even if there was no other
way of controlling their pain. (Scanlon 2008).
Scanlon s View on the Doctrine of Double Effect Scanlon explores the ethical significance of the
intentions and motives with which people act. According to Scanlon, these intentions and motives
do not have any direct bearing on the permissibility of the act. Thus, Scanlon claims that the
traditional Doctrine of Double Effect is mistaken. However, the way in which someone is motivated
to act has

How Did The Enlightenment Influence The American Revolution
During the American Revolution many of the ideas of Enlightenment were used as the guidelines
that influenced things such as the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Key figures
and innovators like Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln, who have been greatly influenced by
the ideas of Enlightenment, founded the United States. This is one of the key periods in time that
helped shaped the United States to the way it is has become today. The Enlightenment has

Such events changed the English government and the conflict between the monarch and
Parliament has produced new ideas about the government. These new ideas were part of a larger
cultural movement in Europe known today as the Enlightenment. During the 1600s, the scientific
discoveries were led to believe that God created an orderly universe, while some citizens believed
that its laws could be discovered through human reasoning and logic. Many of these influential
leaders wanted to apply the laws that ruled nature to people and society. These new ideas played a
big role in the affect of political thinking in Europe and the America. Another way that the
Enlightenment helped to shape some of the colonies was in the terms of religion and prayer. The
Great Awakening was known as a new understanding of America s relationship to God and the
Church. Instead of one dominate and powerful church, Protestant ideals based on Enlightenment
principles of free will and freedom from institutions were allowed by people to choose a
membership in a specific church rather than being forced into one. During the Enlightenment, the
colonies were still very religious but believed that they used the ideas of

Toco Toucan Research Paper
Measuring 63.5 cm (25 in.) in length, the Toco toucan is the largest of all toucans. Its black body
and white throat are overshadowed by its most recognizable trait: a large colorful beak. The
bright orange beak is about 19 cm (8 in.) long one third of the bird s total length. But despite its
substantial size, the beak weighs less than you may think. Toco toucans also use their beaks to
pluck and peel fruit, their main source of food. In addition, the beak houses a flat tongue of the
same length, which helps the toucan catch insects, frogs, and reptiles. Toco toucans also
occasionally eat the eggs of other birds. Although they spend a lot of time in trees, they are not
very good at flying. Toucans mainly travel among trees by hopping.

Public Education in Texas
Public Education In Texas
High quality education is a must in U.S. since it means that today s youth will be prepared with
the knowledge needed to tackle our nations issues. When looking from state to state, you will
notice how various states differ in how well they are able to educate students. Maryland was
ranked number one in the nation by having a high grade point average amongst students and an
equally high graduation rate. Texas on the other hand had the worst grade point average and
graduation rate. The reason for this is the amount of funding that goes into public schools.
Maryland puts a lot of funding into their public schools which helps raise grade point averages.
Meanwhile Texas puts little funding into public schools and... Show more content on

That view still stands today as many senators and representatives hold hold mainly conservative
views.
The conservative view of education extends to the parents of the students as well. Salaries for
public school teachers and administrators come primarily from state taxes which has been an
issue for them for years. School faculty has been fighting the state for years to have an increase
in pay but that would mean an increase in taxes as well. So when the parents of the students
weigh in they often side with the legislature since a pay raise for teachers would mean a raise in
taxes for them. This is sadly the same case for funding school equipment such as computers, books,
playground equipment, ect.. Since parents are unwilling to have their taxes raised to pay for all of
that, our schools will always fall behind, leaving teachers unable to properly teach our students.
Another challenge is how often Texas changes its statewide testing regiments. So far it has changed
four times over the past century, TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills
) was one of the
regiments lasting from 1999 to 2011. The system currently in use and that will end by next year is
the STARR exam (State of Texas Academic Readiness). The testing regiments change constantly
because they do not accurately gauge a students performance. Also the fact that the main goal of the
curriculum is religious and ideological control further hinders the academic performance of
students. For example,

Democracy and Politics in South Korea
Democracy that means the rule of people has been used as a political system since Ancient Greece.
Even though its concept has changed as time goes by, it is still regarded as one of the best political
systems and used in many countries. Unfortunately, most Asian countries did not use this political
system until the middle of the 20th century, so they have a very short history compared with
western countries. Because of that, Asia has had some troubles. For example, Park and Shin (2006)
said that many countries have had military dictatorship which is a common government for a
developing country. A developing country, above all, might want to develop their economy, so
they endure dictatorship because the dictator can make a decision easily and quickly (Park, C. D.
Shin, D., 2006). It also happened in South Korea 50 years ago. In spite of military dictatorship in
the past, South Korea has the most successfully established democracy in Asia (Whitehead, L.,
2002).
There is a special history of democracy in South Korea. Democracy was accepted in 1945 in
South Korea because South Korea achieved independence from Japan. Right after independence of
Korea from Japan, they were divided into two countries; North and South Korea. South Korea
founded and developed a democratic government. However, democracy could not be preserved
because a military general, Junghee Park, accomplished the

Espalier Training
Espalier is the art of training a tree or shrub to grow so that its trunk and branches grow flat
against a support, such a trellis, fence or wall. Fruit trees, such as apples, pears and figs are often
grown in this fashion, as are ornamental tree and shrubs.
Espalier training is idea for homeowners who have limited space, or as a method of marking
boundary lines. Success with espalier pruning and training depends greatly on the care of the tree
and providing the proper support.
Choosing Trees
Those new to espalier can benefit from buying trees with a framework of branches already shaped
and formed by professionals. If you wish to espalier fruit trees, always choose those grown on
dwarfing root stock. Dwarf root stock fruit trees only grow up to 10 feet tall, making them well
suited to espalier training. Ornamental trees and shrubs worth growing as espalier include
forsythias, magnolia grandiflora, yews, viburnums, and jasminums. ... Show more content on

While many forms exist, beginners may want to start out simple with a horizontal or candelabra
form. Plant trees 6 to 10 inches from the support, and choose two strong branches to begin shaping;
cut off all other shoots and cut the main branch, or leader, to just above the bottom wire.
It can take up to four years of training and pruning to create a good looking design. During the
growing season, gradually tighten ties so that the branches are drawn horizontally against the fence.
At this time the leader sprouts; when the new sprout is long enough, tie it to the second wire.
During the dormant season, prune back the leader to the second wire, and choose two strong
branches to create the second tier, removing any competing shoots. As the tree grows, you will
repeat this process for each tier, keeping the leader upright and attached to a wire as it grows.
When the leader reaches the top of the support, cut it back to just about the top branch.

Shady areas will remain cool for longer periods of time in these warmer seasons, so you do not
need as much water. Fescue grass will still require water in cooler temperatures, but daily watering
is not necessary.
Fertilization Weed Control Frisco TX for your Fescue
Applying fertilizer to your lawn will promote healthy grow. Fertilizer will not only increase the
strength of the grass blades, but also improve the green color of your fescue. Unfortunately, many
homeowners fertilize their lawns in the summer. In these extreme temperatures, the fertilizer will be
too strong, killing the grass and causing brown or empty spots in your lawn.
For the best results, fertilize your fescue grass in early spring or the fall season. After applying
the fertilizer, water your lawn thoroughly to ensure the nutrients set into the grass and underlying
soil. To reduce the weeds in your lawn, use a fertilizer that contains weed killers. This will not
only reduce the risk of weeds and crabgrass, but also reduce the time it will take to apply additional

Research Paper On Arthur Eddington
Arthur S. Eddington was an English astronomer, born on Dec. 28, 1882, at Kendal, United
Kingdom. His father Arthur Henry Eddington was a school teacher, died when Eddington was
just two years old. His family had to move to Weston, where he was raised. From 1893 to 1898,
Arthur Eddington had attended Brynmelyn School, where Eddington quickly distinguished
himself, mainly in mathematics and English literature. As a child Eddington was very
intelligent, and by his own account had mastered the multiplication table before he could read.
He received his bachelor s degree in 1902 from Owens College, Manchester, and later he
immediately proceeded to Trinity College, Cambridge. At Cambridge Eddington placed first in
the mathematical examination in his second year, for him it was an unprecedented achievement.
According to NY Times, In 1905 he took his bachelor s degree from Cambridge University; in
1907 he became Smith s Prize winner and was elected a fellow of Trinity College; and in 1909 he
obtained his master s degree. Aside from being an astronomer, he was also a physicist, and a

Machu Picchu And The New Seven Wonders Of The World
Machu Picchu the lost city of the Inca is lying on a mountain edge 2,430 meter (7,970 ft) above

voted as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in an overall Internet survey. (Wikipedia,

Presently gives us a chance to perceive any reason why Machu Picchu is viewed as worldwide as
the recorded place and why archeologists around the globe demonstrate their huge enthusiasm on it.
As in this present time most current archeologists and history specialists trust that Machu Picchu
was worked by the Inca Pachacutec and the best statesman of Tahuantinsuyo, who administered

Pros And Cons Of The Georgia Colony
Was the Georgia colony a success or failure? While the colony of Georgia was successful in
defense however; charity and economy were a disappointment. In 1732 King George 2 granted a
charter by giving named trustees permission to establish the Georgia Colony. Until 1752 the
Georgia Colony had seen both dark and light moments; some of which include the construction of
the settlement, the establishment of Fort Frederica, as well as declaring war on Spain. The
corporation was made to be a charitable body, so none of the trustees could receive or buy land of
their own. Also Because of the small amount of land everyone on the new settlement received there
were several complaints about going into poverty and not having enough slaves or workers to help
establish the colony. James Oglethorpeand 20 other trustees finally decided that they would do
whatever it took to make the colony a utopian city.
Because Georgia had such a great defense system; it won the battle of bloody marsh; and defeated
the Spanish. This was accomplished by raising the first alarm at fort William, evidence for this is
found in document D, The first alarm was raised by the garrison at Fort William, which successfully
kept several Spanish galleons from entering the inland waterway (Colonial Coastal Fortifications
Document D). At St. Simon s island Oglethorpe led the battle and ultimately conquered the Spanish
even after the Spanish launched a massive assault on Garrison; Georgia held firm and the Spanish

uniforms. This is because uniforms are expensive, even though they say they are free but they
actually take the money from your budget and also it depends how many kids you have at the
house. Another reason that you should not wear uniforms is that people get to loose the ability to
express themselves through clothing. According to studies uniforms are supposed to help you get to

Prohibition Of Alcohol In The 1920 s
During the 1920s, a national ban on alcohol was rumored to reduce crime and corruption, solve
social problems, and improve health and hygiene in America. This era of banned alcohol, was called
Prohibition. This law passed, banning all production on alcohol was enforced, leading to illegal
production of alcohol, executed in many different ways. This time era and circumstances have
roughly shaped America today. When Prohibition first went into effect, the alcohol consumption
rate was 30 percent lower than before. It started with religious leaders leading the movement. By the
1900s, temperance societies were common in communities across the United States. Women played
a large part in the temperance movement, alcohol was seen as a negative force in marriage. There

Factory owners also supported Prohibition in order to prevent accidents and increase the quality

the brewing and distilling industries were taking precious grain, molasses, and labor from
wartime production. The nation was not going to give up that easily, alcohol was available
through a physician s prescription and there were now bootleggers to produce alcohol and
speakeasies to serve it. During Prohibition, doctors were able to prescribe liquor to patients on a
specially designed government prescription form that could be filled at any pharmacy. When
medicinal whiskey stocks were low, the government would increase its production. Alcohol
prescriptions soared and a significant amount of the supplies meant for the sick were taken by
bootleggers. Keep in mind that this was during the Depression, there was no funding of jobs,
bootleggers were supplying jobs and making money. Churches and clergy also had a provision. It

Communist Manifesto Social Class
The first part of the Communist Manifesto focuses on the bourgeoisie and the proletariats.
Throughout the text Marx focuses on the divide between the two classes, and the impact it had on
society. Marx the history all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles. Before the
bourgeoisie rose to power, Feudal society was the dominant social system in which the upper class
provided land and protection for the working class. Eventually the feudal society could not keep up
with the growing demand of the market and the bourgeoisiearose from the remnants of the feudal
society. As the bourgeoisie rise to power this divide of the social classwas known as the oppressor
vs the oppressed.

Marx points out that the laborers life is to merely increase capital, and is allowed to live only in so
far as the interest of the ruling class. The more bourgeoisie exploited the proletariats for work, the
wealthier the bourgeoisie became, thus reaping the benefits of the proletariats.
The bourgeoisie society was unlike many in the past. They held onto this facade of capitalism,
economic wealth and means of production. Individuality, family, and property were still prevalent
among the proletariats, but were suppressed by the bourgeoisie. The bourgeoisie were considered
the ruling class, and tore apart the family sentiment focusing on money, stripped the proletariats of
their individuality, and owned all of the factories and industries. Although they prided themselves
on being a wealthy social class, their means of production and wealth relied heavily on the labor of
the proletariats. Marx criticized that the proletariats want to fight against the bourgeoisie, to save
from extinction their existence. The proletariats came to realization that under the rule of the
bourgeoisie they would only be viewed as a machine in means of production. If the bourgeoisie
continued to obtain power and create more capital, there would always be class struggle and
conflict, history all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles. Marx pointed out that

The effects of green fluorescent protein on E. coli bacteria
Introduction:
Genetic transformation occurs when genes are inserted into another gene to change the organism s
trait (Weedman2016). In this experiment, we proceeded to transform the E. coli bacteria with a
gene that contained green fluorescent protein. The green fluorescent protein is used in experiments
because it beams a green color under a UV light (Chalfie2008). Typically, it is used to mark the
expression of genes, which is why it serves as the symbol for all gene expressions (Tsien1998). In
the experiment, we will be using pGLO as the organisms that will transmit the disease, otherwise
known as a vector. The pGLO in the experiment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Scientific Revolution Vs Enlightenment
Throughout history, human motivation resulted from a mixture of four desires: the desire to know,
the desire to exist, the desire to have power, and the desire to create. All of these desires together
impacted historical development. However, from the Age of Exploration to the French Revolution,
the desire to create seems to have played the strongest role. This can be seen in the enslavement of
Africans, the reign of King Louis XIV, the Scientific Revolution, the Enlightenment, and the
beginnings of the French Revolution. During these times of hardship and triumph, new cultural
practices were created, new forms of government were created, new ways to interpret science were
created, and new theories in the humanities were created. These creations... Show more content on

The French collectively wanted to create a country where there were universal human rights for
all. The French Revolution was the outcome of the government going broke and the king calling
the legislature to meet. Among the legislature were many Enlightenment scholars who were
influenced and inspired by the creation of new schools of thought in all humanities (Discussion
notes, March 27). This legislature went on to create the Declaration of the Rights of Man and
Citizen (1789). In this declaration, everyone aside from women were granted the freedom of
speech and the right to own property. Consequently, this radical creation led to the abolishment of
slavery and the doing away with noble titles (Discussion notes, March 27). This legislature
completely revolutionized a country s way of life and empowered those who had been oppressed
for so long. Although women s rights were not included in this document, it still inspired women
to create their own legislature called the Declaration of the Rights of Women and the Female
Citizen. Article I of this document declared that, Women are born free and lives equal to man in
her rights (DMW 19.2, Olympe de Gouges, Declaration of the Rights of Women and the Female
Citizen , page 319). This may sound like a simple statement, however during this time the
suggestion that women were equal to men was comical.

Disadvantages Of Antitrust Law
Chief Justice Roberts stated courts in the U.S. have historically granted injunctions upon a finding
of infringement since the 19th century. The Antitrust Division in the U.S. also admits a patent
owner s rights to exclude are similar to the rights enjoyed by owners of other forms of private
property in the Antitrust Guidelines for the Licensing of Intellectual Property. Therefore, as a
fundamental principle, antitrust law does not generally prohibit the holder of any other property
right from seeking an injunctionto vindicate that right. The FTC has the right to regulate unfair
methods of competition and unfair or deceptive acts or practices under Section 5 of the Federal
Trade Commission Act. During the past two decades, the FTC has been heavily involved in
several high profile SEP disputes, including Dell Computer Corp., N Data, Rambus Inc. v. FTC,
Motorola Mobility, and Bosch GmbH. The FTC generally invokes competition lawas a basis for
investigation over these cases under Section 2 of the Sherman Act and Section 7 of the Clayton Act.
The particular concern... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These consent agreements mostly impose strict requirements for an SEP holder to seek injunctive
relief. For example, in Bosch GmbH, the FTC dictated that Bosch GmbH can only seek
injunctions against an unwilling licensee. The unwilling licensee shows unwillingness by refusing
to accept the SEP holder s offer of a license on F/RAND terms, or a court s determination. In
Motorola Mobility, the order prohibits Google/Motorola from making any future claims for
injunctions over a F/RAND Patent against a potential licensee. This unwilling licensee similarly
should refuse (1) a F/RAND offer either in writing or in sworn testimony, (2) a court order, (3) a
binding arbitration determined F/RAND terms, or (4) simply not replying to the written
confirmation requested in a F/RAND Terms from an SEP

Colonialism In Africa
By the 1960, most of Africa had become independent from colonial powers who reluctantly gave
them freedom after wars that were gory and unpleasant. Africa had started to build or put together
a government that could hopefully unify the country. African had presidents, dictators, etc. But did
Africa ever really gain independence? Based on who you ask, you will get an answer that can be
separated into different groups, one group will tell you yes and others will say no. At the end of
colonialismthere was never a shift in society in Africa. If you look at the current GDP of most
African countries, the growth of the economy, and then peer at the amount of debt they owe to
the world bank then one can see that things have not changed since the end of colonialism. Africa
shifted from colonialism to post colonialism, however Europe never left Africa formally. And
Africa never really pushed for them to leave due to the structure of colonialism. For instance,
when Congo had gained political independence from Belgium, there were only 16 college
graduates in the whole country. Colonialism underdeveloped Africa, many of the people in Africa
never gained an education. In addition, country lines were created in order for colonial powers to
be able to exert control over a group of people that it had just defeated. Before colonialism, Africans
had city states as opposed to nation states. The economy in Africa was primarily based on trade
between people in the community. Consequently, when

Ethos Pathos In Advertising
Advertisements are effective in many ways. Advertisement creators use three effective ways to
persuade the audience into what the advertisement conveys. The three effective persuasion tools
are ethos, pathos, and logos. Without these three persuasion tools, advertisements would be
ineffective and the audience would not be likely to buy the product or be effected by the message
that the advertisement tries to convey. Ethos is used to show how credible the advertisement is.
Logos is used to show the logical side of a product or a message. Pathos is the emotional take on
an advertisement. In a lot of smokingadvertisements that want their audience to stop smoking, the
advertisement authors use pathos to persuade the audience to quit smoking or at least cutback.
The smoking advertisements are more pathos driven because it persuades the audience more by
showing the emotional factors and how smoking could cause a lot of harm to someone. In a lot of
advertisements to stop someone from smoking, the advertisements show the effects smoking has
on both people who smoke and people who do not smoke. The audience for smoking
advertisements are not just smokers, but are also those whose lives have been effected by a
smoker. Authors bring up the effects smoking has by sometimes including a smoker that has been
physically harmed, not only on the inside but also on the outside. By showing the outside physical
harm, the audience is persuaded more to not smoke because they can actually see

read reports that indicate that the country is fairly well divided on this issue. The debate can go
round and around and the answer to the question of legalizing same sex marriages is not as easy as
it may seem. There are solid rebuttals to any supposition one makes on the issue, making the debate
a lot more interesting than one might believe.
In general there are several philosophical arguments against same sex marriage: The first claims that
marriage is an innately reproductive union of two people and that same sex marriages innately lack
the potential for any type of reproduction, therefore it is metaphysically and biologically impossible
for homosexuals to become married to one another. Thus, same sex marriages should not occur.
Critics of this line of reasoning would state that there is no one who would support the notion of not
allowing infertile heterosexual couples or fertile heterosexual couples who do not plan to have
children the right to marry one another. Thus, this argument is not valid as an explanation of why
same sex marriages should not be allowed. However, the rebuttal to this counter argument would be
that the sexual intercourse that takes place between either infertile heterosexual couples or
heterosexual couples not desiring children is reproductive in kind.

The Environmental Consequences And Effects Of Climate Change
Climate change is a serious environmental issue which influences changes in temperature, humidity,
air quality, precipitation, and land surface wetness across the globe (Institute of Medicine [IOM],
2011). Small changes in these factors can snowball into larger and potentially disastrous outcomes
in climate and weather. For example, the 1.5В°F increase in the average global temperature during
the past century has been accompanied by serious environmental consequences such as an increase
in floods, droughts, heavy rainfall, and more frequent and intense heat waves (Environmental
Protection Agency [EPA], n.d.). Over the next century, the increase in the Earth s average
temperature is predicted to rise by another 0.5 to 8.6В°F (EPA, n.d.). The risk for additional severe
changes to the Earth s system is projected to increase, as well as the potential harm to the health of
the global population (World Health Organization [WHO], 2009). One way through which this is
expected to occur is through climate change affecting the indoor environment by creating favorable
conditions for the growth of mold, ultimately harming inhabitants respiratory health (IOM, 2011).
According to a report by the Institute of Medicine s Committee on the Effect of Climate Change on
Indoor Air Quality and Public Health, climate change induced alterations to the outdoor
environment are likely to affect the indoor environment, and as a result, the health of its inhabitants
(2011). Climate change has increased the frequency and intensity of heavy rainfall and hurricane
events, leading to more breakdown of buildings, leaks and infiltration of water into the indoor
environment, and flooding (IOM, 2011). The issue of indoor dampness and flooding lies in the
creation of favorable conditions for the growth of mold. Moisture level has been shown to be the
primary factor responsible for indoor mold growth (IOM, 2011). Exposure to mold is associated
with various respiratory symptoms, such as coughing, wheezing, asthma exacerbation, and
shortness of breath in vulnerable individuals (IOM, 2011). This combination of climate change and
the subsequent increase in mold growth and exposure raises concerns for health, particularly the
health of those with existing

Why Is Personal Legend Important In The Alchemist
In the book The Alchemist the theme is personal legend. The quote everyone on earth has a
treasure that awaits them (Coelho ) describes just how important the personal legend is in this
book. Another quote would be To realize a person s destiny is a person s only obligation (Coelho ).
Also, the quote When you strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes
better, too (Coelho ) . And last but not least the quote And, when you want something, all the
universe conspires in helping you to achieve it (Coelho ). All four of these quotes describe how
personal legend is the theme of the book. The quote everyone on earth has a treasure that awaits
them (Coelho ) explains that treasure in the book is not actually treasure. The treasure in the book
was actually the amazing things santiago went through as he found his personal legend. Santiago
went through many things through his adventure. Things that hurt him mentally and physically.
Santiago was beaten, heart broken, amazed, and so many other feelings and emotions were felt.
He soon realized the dream was his personal legend. It was to adventure and see new things.
Santiago is not the only one that has a treasure that awaits everyone has one.... Show more content

A person should pay lots of attentions to their destiny. If a person shall not pay attention to their
destiny they may die not knowing why God put them here or not know what their purpose may be.
Santiago may not have known his purpose or what his destinations was at the beginning but, at the
end of the book he realized what is destiny was. Many other people throughout the book showed
that they did know their personal legend. Others showed that they did not know their personal
legend. The englishmen for example knew his destiny and tried to help Santiago follow his

Childhood Attachment
A child s ability to function and comply with society s rules and regulations rely on a healthy early
childhood attachment. Attachment is the biological instinct for infant to seek closeness to their
caregiver. A secure attachment develops through consistent and positive, interactions between the
caregiver and the child. A child s physical development, mental development, social development,
and ability to form daily living skills, all begin to develop through that secure development but
continues to develop through continued nurture throughout that child s life. Children who fail to
receive a secure attachment will most likely struggle with self regulation making it hard to control
behaviors and impulses. These children may also engage in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The components of the juvenile processes are arrest, detainment, petitions, hearings, adjudications,
dispositions, placement, probation, and reentry. The juvenile justice process operates on the belief
that juvenile offenders are different from adults, in terms of level of responsibility and ability to be
rehabilitated. The main goals for the juvenile justice system is developing new skills, rehabilitation,
assessing possible treatment needs, and successful reentry into the community while maintaining
public safety. As with any system, there are risks and benefits to the cliental. During our course, I
gained a better understanding of the programs designed to help rehabilitate the child or adolescent.
Many programs were designed to develop coping skills, learn new trades, and teach new skills, so
that the child/adolescent would be better equipped to survive on the outside without having to
return to the delinquent behavior that landed them in the system. The trade off to the system would
include learning worse behaviors from other inmates, the effects of being labeled as a delinquent
and being separated from family and community. Minorities are at an even higher risk experiencing
discrimination, being houses with adult inmates who can take advantage of the youth, teach worse
behaviors, and build relationships that carry over into the outside world, increasing the chance that
the youth will become an adult offender. Due to the risks, professional helpers have an opportunity
to intervene and provide alternative interventions throughout the entire juvenile justice

Criminal Profiling Essay
For many years criminal profiling has been used in crime shows such as CSI, Law Order, and
Criminal Minds. The audience is always on edge and thrilled as to how they accurately and
briskly catch the perpetrator; and get a detailed and heart felt confession at the end of the hour
long episode. However, as we have focused on in this Psychology class, that is not an accurate
portrayal of the real thing. Criminal profiling and forensic science is useful, but can we really say
exactly how useful they are in the real world? In this article review, it focuses on the crimesolving
tools used in history, the evolvement of forensic science and the explanation of criminal profiling
and its actual use in real life cases, it is titled The Utilization... Show more content on

The most killers were caught by someone who knew them personally, and was reported to police. It
seems as though forensic science, such as fingerprinting or DNA widen the field, but does little to
catch a suspect. These tools are mainly used to create a conviction of a crime against killers that
are already in custody. As for criminal profiling, it cannot be treated as an investigative tool
according to this study. It has to be used as an extra that can be utilized to somewhat narrow the
scope for investigators, but not identify the killer. According to this study, the utilization of the
public is the most helpful in catching a serial

Professionalism in Nursing
There are many fields and professions in which professionalism is of the highest reputation, and
nursing is among them. In the area of nursing, there is much importance to be placed with the
improvement of professionalism within the profession. Nursing is a profession that depends on
practitioners to perform in a way that characterized the goodness of the wider discipline, as all
nurses are in a position of accountability and responsibility. This essay will further look into the
topic of professionalism in nursing, the role of a registered nurse, and having competence in
relation to this role. Furthermore, this will also discuss how a registered nurse demonstrates
professional practice in relation to the New Zealand Nursing Council (NZNC)... Show more content

Nurses should also ensure that they have the experience, skills, and training needed to carry out the
task that they are expected to implement with evidence based research. These qualities are included
in the second domain which is the management of nursing care. For example, a nurse should have
an understanding of the theoretical frameworks which shape the nursing over the years. Such as an
understanding of Jean Watson s Theory of Care and its influence on the development of nursing
practice. Furthermore, patients approach nurses due to physical or mental conditions. Thus, nurses
should give the best care to address the needs of the patients. With effective communication skills
and willingness of patient s involvement, this relationship will continue to nurture with time as long
as there is readiness to listen and harmony from both parties. This relates to the third domain which
is interpersonal relationship. Another factor for being professional is collegiality. This connects to
the fourth domain which is inter professional health care and quality improvement. Collegiality is
the relationship between colleagues who seek the requirement of respect, mutual trust, and
cooperation between team mates (Lorenz, 2013). It is the duty of a nurse to maintain healthy
relationships with their team to ensure the patient s wellbeing. This involves critical teamwork
skills particularly when it comes to referrals,

Computer Literacy Narrative
Those were my first words. The task of creating a program which simply prints out Hello World
is, by tradition, the first one given to any new programmer. It s a rite of passage. The one seen
above is written in Java (a name you might recognize from those update notifications that never
seem to leave you alone). This little five line program has been written millions of times by those
learning to be literate with computers.
Computer literacy has played an extremely significant role in defining who I am today, in a more
unique and personal way than any traditional spoken language, and is set to define my future as
well. My ability to understand and communicate with computers is something I pride myself in
greatly, and is a topic in which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Arlington High School is truly lucky to have Mr. Sheldon, a former valedictorian at MIT,
teaching computer science. His class was revelatory for me in my freshman year. The course
was centered around learning to code in Processing through small projects. Under his guidance, I
was able to make dinky little games using the most basic programming techniques. I distinctly
remember my sense of accomplishment upon turning in a barely playable knockoff of Line
Runner for my first independent project of the year. Now, looking back on this code gives me
anxiety. It was nothing more than a bunch of redundant global variables and if statements
blasphemous! However, my programming practices did improve slightly over the year; I was
making eventually using arrays and loops to streamline my programs. Code is truly like a
language one can see the progress of their computer literacy in the quality of the code they write.
The drive to learn programming which begun in this class has led me to spend considerable
amount of my free time furthering my literacy. I ve since dabbled in many different programming
languages on my own time, such as HTML to make websites and C# in Unity to make video
games. Now, my code is a chocolatey combination of classes and abstraction which I can be truly
proud

It is scary to know that you are being a victim of any individual who works with remote computers. People who use unauthorized entries to other computers through communication networks such as the Internet, are known as hacker. Since the technology has improved, all people should have information about hackers and how we can protect our systems against them. Where was this term born? The term hacker comes from an idea derived from a community of computer programmers and systems designers, in the 1960s around the Massachusetts Institute of Technology s, Tech Model Railroad Club and MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. A hacker is a person who secretly gets access to a computer system in order to get information. They create programs that are so complex, even the best programmers cannot conceive them. Many of the hackers are probably between fourteen and eighteen years old. They earn a lot of money stealing important information; also, they steal because they are paid for doing it; but, many people have become their prey causing them emotional disturbances. They use many ways of stealing. Since 1997, companies have received hacker attacks in their systems, making some lose a significant amount of money. The Extent to Which Psychological Theories Have Been Successful in Explaining Attachments There are various psychological theories to regard as which have been successful in explaining attachments and I will be explaining the majority of them. Sigmund Freud developed a theory of personality an explanation of how each individual s personality develops. This theory can be used to explain many aspects of behaviour, including attachment. Feud proposed that attachment grows out of the feeding relationship. In essence Freud claimed that infants are born with an innate drive to seek pleasure. The relationship with the primary caregiver acts as a template for all later relationships However, the classic experiments of Harry Harlow (1959) on rhesus monkeys demonstrated that this theory was inadequate. This study concerned rhesus monkeys who were raised on their own by two wire mothers . One wire mother had a feeding bottle attached and the other and the other was wrapped in soft cloth but offered no cloth. According to the learning theory, the young monkeys should have become attached to the mother associated with food and offering drive reduction. In fact, the monkeys spent most time with the cloth covered mother and would cling to it especially when they were frightened. These studies suggest that cupboard love is not likely to be an explanation for attachment, though we must remember that this research concerned monkeys and it may not be wholly appropriate to generalise the findings to human behaviour. Schaffer and Emerson (1964) conducted an important study observing the development of attachments in 60 infants who came largely from working class homes in Glasgow. The infants were observed over a period of a year in their homes. The results of the study proved that infants were not most attached to the person who fed them, nor to the person who spent most time with them. Therefore, the no driving principle is implied. These are two of the most significant principles presented by NORML. The next principle is described as set and setting. The NORML organization states, The responsible cannabis user will carefully consider his/her set and setting, regulating use accordingly (NORML, 1996, para. 7). Meaning, adults should be responsible enough, when using marijuana, to take into consideration several different aspects of one s life. For instance, it is important for marijuana users to consider his or her set, meaning the individual s attitude, personality, and experience. The term setting refers to an individual s physical and social condition or circumstances (NORML, 1996, para. 8). Each figure demonstrates a high degree of individualism, and when first discovered historians questioned whether the soldiers were modelled on Emperor Qin Shihuang s actual army. This theory is still being investigated today, but with archaeological technologies constantly evolving, historians are analysing the so called Eighth Wonder of the World and are obtaining evidence to both support and discount this theory. For now though, the question remains: were the Terracotta Warriors portraits of Emperor Qin Shihaung s real army? A study, called Imperial Logistics, was undertaken in 2014 by a group of scholars from the Institute of Archaeology at University College London and archaeologists from the Emperor Qin Shihuang s Mausoleum Site Museum in Xian, China. The research team used new technology to allow a more thorough morphometric analysis of the Terracotta Warriors than had been achieved previously. The technology, a combination of structure from motion and multiview stereo (SfM MVS), allowed the research team to create three dimensional reconstructions of the ears of thirty terracotta warriors, as seen in Source 1. The doctrine of double effect if often invoked to explain the permissibility of an action that causes a serious harm, such as the death of a human being, as a side effect of promoting good ends. It is claimed that sometimes it is permissible to cause such harm as a side effect of bringing about a good result even though it would not be permissible to cause such harm as a means to bringing about the same good end. Maryland was ranked number one in the nation by having a high grade point average amongst students and an equally high graduation rate. School faculty has been fighting the state for years to have an increase in pay but that would mean an increase in taxes as well. So when the parents of the students weigh in they often side with the legislature since a pay raise for teachers would mean a raise in taxes for them. This is sadly the same case for funding school equipment such as computers, books, playground equipment, ect.. Since parents are unwilling to have their taxes raised to pay for all of that, our schools will always fall behind, leaving teachers unable to properly teach our students. Even though its concept has changed as time goes by, it is still regarded as one of the best political systems and used in many countries. Unfortunately, most Asian countries did not use this political system until the middle of the 20th century, so they have a very short history compared with western countries. Because of that, Asia has had some troubles. For example, Park and Shin (2006) said that many countries have had military dictatorship which is a common government for a developing country. A developing country, above all, might want to develop their economy, so they endure dictatorship because the dictator can make a decision easily and quickly (Park, C. D. Shin, D., 2006). It also happened in South Korea 50 years ago. In spite of military dictatorship in the past, South Korea has the most successfully established democracy in Asia (Whitehead, L., 2002). There is a special history of democracy in South Korea. Democracy was accepted in 1945 in South Korea because South Korea achieved independence from Japan. In 1732 King George 2 granted a charter by giving named trustees permission to establish the Georgia Colony. Until 1752 the Georgia Colony had seen both dark and light moments; some of which include the construction of the settlement, the establishment of Fort Frederica, as well as declaring war on Spain. The corporation was made to be a charitable body, so none of the trustees could receive or buy land of their own. Also Because of the small amount of land everyone on the new settlement received there were several complaints about going into poverty and not having enough slaves or workers to help establish the colony. James Oglethorpeand 20 other trustees finally decided that they would do whatever it took to make the colony a utopian city. Because Georgia had such a great defense system; it won the battle of bloody marsh; and defeated the Spanish. This was accomplished by raising the first alarm at fort William, evidence for this is found in document D, The first alarm was raised by the garrison at Fort William, which successfully kept several Spanish galleons from entering the inland waterway (Colonial Coastal Fortifications Document D). Marx points out that the laborers life is to merely increase capital, and is allowed to live only in so far as the interest of the ruling class. The more bourgeoisie exploited the proletariats for work, the wealthier the bourgeoisie became, thus reaping the benefits of the proletariats. The bourgeoisie society was unlike many in the past. They held onto this facade of capitalism, economic wealth and means of production. Individuality, family, and property were still prevalent among the proletariats, but were suppressed by the bourgeoisie. The bourgeoisie were considered the ruling class, and tore apart the family sentiment focusing on money, stripped the proletariats of their individuality, and owned all of the factories and industries. Although they prided themselves on being a wealthy social class, their means of production and wealth relied heavily on the labor of the proletariats. Marx criticized that the proletariats want to fight against the bourgeoisie, to save from extinction their existence. The proletariats came to realization that under the rule of the bourgeoisie they would only be viewed as a machine in means of production. If the bourgeoisie continued to obtain power and create more capital, there would always be class struggle and conflict, history all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles. • 30. Scientific Revolution Vs Enlightenment Throughout history, human motivation resulted from a mixture of four desires: the desire to know, the desire to exist, the desire to have power, and the desire to create. All of these desires together impacted historical development. However, from the Age of Exploration to the French Revolution, the desire to create seems to have played the strongest role. This can be seen in the enslavement of Africans, the reign of King Louis XIV, the Scientific Revolution, the Enlightenment, and the beginnings of the French Revolution. During these times of hardship and triumph, new cultural practices were created, new forms of government were created, new ways to interpret science were created, and new theories in the humanities were created. The French Revolution was the outcome of the government going broke and the king calling the legislature to meet. Among the legislature were many Enlightenment scholars who were influenced and inspired by the creation of new schools of thought in all humanities (Discussion notes, March 27). This legislature went on to create the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen (1789). In this declaration, everyone aside from women were granted the freedom of speech and the right to own property. Consequently, this radical creation led to the abolishment of slavery and the doing away with noble titles (Discussion notes, March 27). This legislature completely revolutionized a country s way of life and empowered those who had been oppressed for so long. Although women s rights were not included in this document, it still inspired women to create their own legislature called the Declaration of the Rights of Women and the Female Citizen. Article I of this document declared that, Women are born free and lives equal to man in her rights (DMW 19.2, Olympe de Gouges, Declaration of the Rights of Women and the Female Citizen , page 319). Africa had started to build or put together a government that could hopefully unify the country. African had presidents, dictators, etc. But did Africa ever really gain independence? Based on who you ask, you will get an answer that can be separated into different groups, one group will tell you yes and others will say no. At the end of colonialismthere was never a shift in society in Africa. If you look at the current GDP of most African countries, the growth of the economy, and then peer at the amount of debt they owe to the world bank then one can see that things have not changed since the end of colonialism. Africa shifted from colonialism to post colonialism, however Europe never left Africa formally. And Africa never really pushed for them to leave due to the structure of colonialism. For instance, when Congo had gained political independence from Belgium, there were only 16 college graduates in the whole country. Colonialism underdeveloped Africa, many of the people in Africa never gained an education. In addition, country lines were created in order for colonial powers to be able to exert control over a group of people that it had just defeated. In researching material for this paper this writer could not help but read reports that indicate that the country is fairly well divided on this issue. The debate can go round and around and the answer to the question of legalizing same sex marriages is not as easy as it may seem. There are solid rebuttals to any supposition one makes on the issue, making the debate a lot more interesting than one might believe. In general there are several philosophical arguments against same sex marriage: The first claims that marriage is an innately reproductive union of two people and that same sex marriages innately lack the potential for any type of reproduction, therefore it is metaphysically and biologically impossible for homosexuals to become married to one another. Thus, same sex marriages should not occur. Critics of this line of reasoning would state that there is no one who would support the notion of not allowing infertile heterosexual couples or fertile heterosexual couples who do not plan to have children the right to marry one another. Thus, this argument is not valid as an explanation of why same sex marriages should not be allowed. However, the rebuttal to this counter argument would be that the sexual intercourse that takes place between either infertile heterosexual couples or heterosexual couples not desiring children is reproductive in kind. ... For example, the 1.5В°F increase in the average global temperature during the past century has been accompanied by serious environmental consequences such as an increase in floods, droughts, heavy rainfall, and more frequent and intense heat waves (Environmental Protection Agency [EPA], n.d.). Over the next century, the increase in the Earth s average temperature is predicted to rise by another 0.5 to 8.6В°F (EPA, n.d.). The risk for additional severe changes to the Earth s system is projected to increase, as well as the potential harm to the health of the global population (World Health Organization [WHO], 2009). One way through which this is expected to occur is through climate change affecting the indoor environment by creating favorable conditions for the growth of mold, ultimately harming inhabitants respiratory health (IOM, 2011). According to a report by the Institute of Medicine s Committee on the Effect of Climate Change on Indoor Air Quality and Public Health, climate change induced alterations to the outdoor environment are likely to affect the indoor environment, and as a result, the health of its inhabitants (2011). Climate change has increased the frequency and intensity of heavy rainfall and hurricane events, leading to more breakdown of buildings, leaks and infiltration of water into the indoor environment, and flooding (IOM, 2011). The issue of indoor dampness and flooding lies in the creation of favorable conditions for the growth of mold. Moisture level has been shown to be the primary factor responsible for indoor mold growth (IOM, 2011). Exposure to mold is associated with various respiratory symptoms, such as coughing, wheezing, asthma exacerbation, and shortness of breath in vulnerable individuals (IOM, 2011). This combination of climate change and the subsequent increase in mold growth and exposure raises concerns for health, particularly the health of those with existing ... • 43. Why Is Personal Legend Important In The Alchemist In the book The Alchemist the theme is personal legend. The quote everyone on earth has a treasure that awaits them (Coelho ) describes just how important the personal legend is in this book. Another quote would be To realize a person s destiny is a person s only obligation (Coelho ). Also, the quote When you strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better, too (Coelho ) . And last but not least the quote And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it (Coelho ). All four of these quotes describe how personal legend is the theme of the book. The quote everyone on earth has a treasure that awaits them (Coelho ) explains that treasure in the book is not actually treasure. The treasure in the book was actually the amazing things santiago went through as he found his personal legend. Santiago went through many things through his adventure. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Attachment is the biological instinct for infant to seek closeness to their caregiver. A secure attachment develops through consistent and positive, interactions between the caregiver and the child. A child s physical development, mental development, social development, and ability to form daily living skills, all begin to develop through that secure development but continues to develop through continued nurture throughout that child s life. Children who fail to receive a secure attachment will most likely struggle with self regulation making it hard to control behaviors and impulses. These children may also engage in... The juvenile justice process operates on the belief that juvenile offenders are different from adults, in terms of level of responsibility and ability to be rehabilitated. The main goals for the juvenile justice system is developing new skills, rehabilitation, assessing possible treatment needs, and successful reentry into the community while maintaining public safety. As with any system, there are risks and benefits to the cliental. During our course, I gained a better understanding of the programs designed to help rehabilitate the child or adolescent. Many programs were designed to develop coping skills, learn new trades, and teach new skills, so that the child/adolescent would be better equipped to survive on the outside without having to return to the delinquent behavior that landed them in the system. The trade off to the system would include learning worse behaviors from other inmates, the effects of being labeled as a delinquent and being separated from family and community. Minorities are at an even higher risk experiencing discrimination, being houses with adult inmates who can take advantage of the youth, teach worse behaviors, and build relationships that carry over into the outside world, increasing the chance that the youth will become an adult offender. Due to the risks, professional helpers have an opportunity to intervene and provide alternative interventions throughout the entire juvenile justice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Criminal Profiling Essay For many years criminal profiling has been used in crime shows such as CSI, Law Order, and Criminal Minds. The audience is always on edge and thrilled as to how they accurately and briskly catch the perpetrator; and get a detailed and heart felt confession at the end of the hour long episode. However, as we have focused on in this Psychology class, that is not an accurate portrayal of the real thing. Criminal profiling and forensic science is useful, but can we really say exactly how useful they are in the real world? In this article review, it focuses on the crimesolving tools used in history, the evolvement of forensic science and the explanation of criminal profiling and its actual use in real life cases, it is titled The Utilization... It seems as though forensic science, such as fingerprinting or DNA widen the field, but does little to catch a suspect. These tools are mainly used to create a conviction of a crime against killers that are already in custody. As for criminal profiling, it cannot be treated as an investigative tool according to this study. It has to be used as an extra that can be utilized to somewhat narrow the scope for investigators, but not identify the killer. According to this study, the utilization of the public is the most helpful in catching a serial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Professionalism in Nursing There are many fields and professions in which professionalism is of the highest reputation, and nursing is among them. In the area of nursing, there is much importance to be placed with the improvement of professionalism within the profession. Nursing is a profession that depends on practitioners to perform in a way that characterized the goodness of the wider discipline, as all nurses are in a position of accountability and responsibility. This essay will further look into the topic of professionalism in nursing, the role of a registered nurse, and having competence in relation to this role. Nurses should also ensure that they have the experience, skills, and training needed to carry out the task that they are expected to implement with evidence based research. These qualities are included in the second domain which is the management of nursing care. For example, a nurse should have an understanding of the theoretical frameworks which shape the nursing over the years. Such as an understanding of Jean Watson s Theory of Care and its influence on the development of nursing practice. Furthermore, patients approach nurses due to physical or mental conditions. Thus, nurses should give the best care to address the needs of the patients. With effective communication skills and willingness of patient s involvement, this relationship will continue to nurture with time as long as there is readiness to listen and harmony from both parties. This relates to the third domain which is interpersonal relationship. Another factor for being professional is collegiality. This connects to the fourth domain which is inter professional health care and quality improvement. Collegiality is the relationship between colleagues who seek the requirement of respect, mutual trust, and cooperation between team mates (Lorenz, 2013). It is the duty of a nurse to maintain healthy relationships with their team to ensure the patient s wellbeing. This involves critical teamwork skills particularly when it comes to referrals, ... • 47. Computer Literacy Narrative Those were my first words. The task of creating a program which simply prints out Hello World is, by tradition, the first one given to any new programmer. It s a rite of passage. The one seen above is written in Java (a name you might recognize from those update notifications that never seem to leave you alone). This little five line program has been written millions of times by those learning to be literate with computers. Computer literacy has played an extremely significant role in defining who I am today, in a more unique and personal way than any traditional spoken language, and is set to define my future as well. My ability to understand and communicate with computers is something I pride myself in greatly, and is a topic in which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Arlington High School is truly lucky to have Mr. Sheldon, a former valedictorian at MIT, teaching computer science. His class was revelatory for me in my freshman year. The course was centered around learning to code in Processing through small projects. Under his guidance, I was able to make dinky little games using the most basic programming techniques. I distinctly remember my sense of accomplishment upon turning in a barely playable knockoff of Line Runner for my first independent project of the year. Now, looking back on this code gives me anxiety. It was nothing more than a bunch of redundant global variables and if statements blasphemous! However, my programming practices did improve slightly over the year; I was making eventually using arrays and loops to streamline my programs. Code is truly like a language one can see the progress of their computer literacy in the quality of the code they write. The drive to learn programming which begun in this class has led me to spend considerable amount of my free time furthering my literacy. I ve since dabbled in many different programming languages on my own time, such as HTML to make websites and C# in Unity to make video games. Now, my code is a chocolatey combination of classes and abstraction which I can be truly proud ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
