By the 1960, most of Africa had become independent from colonial powers who reluctantly gave
them freedom after wars that were gory and unpleasant. Africa had started to build or put together
a government that could hopefully unify the country. African had presidents, dictators, etc. But did

persuade the audience into what the advertisement conveys. The three effective persuasion tools
are ethos, pathos, and logos. Without these three persuasion tools, advertisements would be
ineffective and the audience would not be likely to buy the product or be effected by the message
that the advertisement tries to convey. Ethos is used to show how credible the advertisement is.
Logos is used to show the logical side of a product or a message. Pathos is the emotional take on

The topic of legalizing same sex marriages brings up heated debates on legal, religious, moral,
and philosophical grounds. In researching material for this paper this writer could not help but
read reports that indicate that the country is fairly well divided on this issue. The debate can go
round and around and the answer to the question of legalizing same sex marriages is not as easy as
it may seem. There are solid rebuttals to any supposition one makes on the issue, making the debate
a lot more interesting than one might believe.
In general there are several philosophical arguments against same sex marriage: The first claims that
marriage is an innately reproductive union of two people and that same sex marriages innately lack
the potential for any type of reproduction, therefore it is metaphysically and biologically impossible
for homosexuals to become married to one another. Thus, same sex marriages should not occur.
Critics of this line of reasoning would state that there is no one who would support the notion of not
allowing infertile heterosexual couples or fertile heterosexual couples who do not plan to have
children the right to marry one another. Thus, this argument is not valid as an explanation of why
same sex marriages should not be allowed. However, the rebuttal to this counter argument would be
that the sexual intercourse that takes place between either infertile heterosexual couples or
heterosexual couples not desiring children is reproductive in kind.

Climate change is a serious environmental issue which influences changes in temperature, humidity,
air quality, precipitation, and land surface wetness across the globe (Institute of Medicine [IOM],
2011). Small changes in these factors can snowball into larger and potentially disastrous outcomes
in climate and weather. For example, the 1.5В°F increase in the average global temperature during
the past century has been accompanied by serious environmental consequences such as an increase
in floods, droughts, heavy rainfall, and more frequent and intense heat waves (Environmental

Arlington High School is truly lucky to have Mr. Sheldon, a former valedictorian at MIT,
teaching computer science. His class was revelatory for me in my freshman year. The course
was centered around learning to code in Processing through small projects. Under his guidance, I
was able to make dinky little games using the most basic programming techniques. I distinctly
remember my sense of accomplishment upon turning in a barely playable knockoff of Line
Runner for my first independent project of the year. Now, looking back on this code gives me

making eventually using arrays and loops to streamline my programs. Code is truly like a

languages on my own time, such as HTML to make websites and C# in Unity to make video
