Herbert Hoover Accomplishments
Herbert Hoover was known as the Great Humanitarian and the Great Engineer. Yet, he was blamed
almost entirely for the Great Depression. Herbert Hoover accomplished much in his life, but it was
definitely not an easy journey; he went through the ups and downs of the learning years that paved the
path leading to his presidency, and he ultimately faced his fears. Herbert Hoover was born in the rural
town of West Branch, Iowa on August 10, 1874, to Jesse and Hulda Hoover. Herbert was born in one
of the three rooms in the Hoover s home. Jesse compared Herbert to Ulysses S. Grant; he was very
hopeful for his son s future. Jesse Hoover was the owner of a blacksmith shop in their small, rural
town. Herbert, called Bert, had two siblings, an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After two years at the land settlement company, Hoover started taking night courses at a business
school. Hoover learned from a Quaker math teacher about Stanford University, and he had a great
desire to attend there. Herbert failed his first entrance exam, but Stanford allowed him another
opportunity to take the exam. He was the tender age of seventeen when he began his engineering
studies at Stanford. Stanford was not an inexpensive school; Herbert worked several entry level jobs
to afford to attend. (Chang, 18 20) Hoover was very involved in the university s student government.
He was also the treasurer of his junior class. (Fausold, 5) During his time at the university, Herbert the
met lovely Louise Henry, often called Lou. Herbert later described her as, A symbol of everything
wholesome in American life. (Chang, 41) Lou was the first woman to major in geology at Stanford.
(Chang, 20) After graduating with an A.B. degree, Herbert took a job with the mining engineer, Louis
Janin; Herbert was asked to work on projects in California, Colorado, and Nevada. A year later,
Herbert Hoover got a job with the mining firm of Bewick, Moreing, and Company of London. While
working with the firm, he was sent on a two year assignment in Australia working on gold mines.
During his time in Australia, Herbert was made a partner with this firm; he was only twenty seven.

Analysis Of The American Born Chinese By Gene Luen Yang
Gene Luen Yang s novel, the American Born Chinese is the story of a young boy called Jin Wang of
Chinese American descent. Wang is struggling with the identity of his ethnicity. The central message
that the author wishes to pass across is to encourage young people to embrace their identities and
desist from judging people based on their culture, race, and appearance. Throughout the whole story,
the main players experience lack of self acceptance because of the treatments they receive from the
society. Ironically, this is the same society that should accept them as part of its own. Because of their
cultural and racial differences, teenagers are discriminated against by the society. As a result, these
young people resort in doing things that are detrimental to their social well beings (Yang, 2007). ...

The stories are set in three different locations that give the reader an overview of the differences that
exist. By employing the third person narration, Yang takes his readers through the minds of the actors.
Since it is set in junior high school and deals with things mostly dear to teenagers, the author targeted
the young adult audiences particularly. Jin is in a white majority school where his only friend is Wei
Chen. His failure to get a girlfriend makes life difficult for him. On the other hand, Danny is a blonde
teenager in high school who suffers from self identity issues and attempts to become a jock.
Everything seems to be working out well for him as he has a girlfriend. Danny s story is a typical
teenager trying to fit into the society. He strives to hard to be a white boy wannabe, which is an
identity crisis in itself (Yang,

Taco Bell Case
TACO BELL CASE
1. Draw a diagram of the process using the format in Exhibit 7.3.
2. Consider a base case where a customer arrives every 40 seconds and the Customer Service
Champion can handle 120 customers per hour. There are two Food Champions, each capable of
handling 100 orders per hour. How long should it take to be served by the restaurant (from the time a
customer enters the kiosk queue until her food is delivered)? Use queuing models to estimate this.
λ=Arrival Rate μ=Service Rate
Based on M/M/1 Model
So, λ=360040=90 Customers per hour μS (Service Champion)= 120 Customers per hour μF (Food
Champion)= 200 Customers per hour

For the type of analysis done in this case what are the key assumptions? What would be the impact on
this analysis if the assumptions ware not true? Assumption | Impact if it was not true | Customer
arrival pattern is Poisson | If the customers arriving at Taco Bell Did not fulfill the assumption to be
characterized as Poisson arrival pattern the above calculation would have been wrong and other more
complex model would need to be used in order to determine correct values. | There is unlimited space
for the cars waiting in line | The number of cars waiting in line would have to be no larger than the
number of space available, so calculations carried out basing on M/M/1 Model would be unrealistic. |
The two services are independent | If this assumption is not met we would meet to use more
sophisticated models to provide this analysis. | Service Champion is never helping the Food

Service pattern is exponential | If the service pattern were not exponential (i.e. it was constant) we
would need to use different Model to carry out the analysis. | 8. Could this type of analysis be used by

Separation Of Powers In Australia
Brief Background and Description of the Separation of Powers:
Australia adopted its democratic system from both the Westminster and United States pre established
versions. The structure of separation of powers intends to delegate the power of the state to three
branches in order to minimise the abuse of this power and ensure justice through its protection. The
powers pertaining to each branch are mutually exclusive to each arm of government . The legislative
branch, responsible for the drafting and establishing of laws, the executive, aimed at putting the laws
into force and implementing them and the judiciary designed to interpret the laws, are evidence of the
exclusivity of each branches function within the Australian government. The legislative ... Show more

Their case was dependent upon arguing that the ACMA was acting outside of his jurisdiction and
employing powers in which it did not have the authority to exercise. The defending party
acknowledged that it was open to the Communications Authority to form an opinion on their actions.
Ultimately the case was decided against the position taken by Today FM and the appellant trial judges
unanimously. It was ruled that the ACMA was not exercising judicial power in their actions of
suspending a broadcasting license, there is no basis on which the Authority, in so acting, could be said
to exercise judicial power. None of the indicia of exclusively judicial power would be present. The
court then went on to make clear that The Authority s cancellation or suspension of the license would
not be...the imposition of punishment for the commission of an offence. As a result, the court
acknowledged the ACMA s power to make findings as to whether an offence has been committed in

Midsummer Night Dream Analysis
A Midsummer s Night Dream
William Shakespeare is a successful playwright as he uses the style of history, tragedy and comedy
which is an entertaining aspect that is in all his plays.
One of his plays, A midsummer s night dream , includes the themes of love and magic, where love is
represented as a force that makes people act in irrational ways to entertain the audience in a comical
and dramatic way. He used different techniques throughout the play to create a tumultuous and
intriguing factor. The storyline of the play follows various couples such as Hermia and Lysander and
Oberon and Titania. These couples show examples of irrational behaviours with love and magic
throughout the play.
Hermia and Lysander behave irrationally throughout the whole play because they re head over heels
for each other; however, their love is oppressed by both her father Egeus and the strict Athenian law.
In Act 1, Scene 1 when Egeus is at court with Hermia he uses a demanding and dominating tone to
state, as she is mine i may dispose of her This causes them to act spontaneously and irrationally and as
a consequence, they run away from Athens to get married. This entertains the audience by adding
more conflict and complication to the story. After they elope to the forest, magic becomes the force
that turns love to a dramatic and conflict filled experience that is also entertaining. Lysander acts in
irrational ways when he is put under the spell of Love in Idleness where he states how madly he loves
on Helena, and how much he hates Hermia. Hang off, thou cat, thou burr! Vile thing, let loose, / or I
will shake thee from me like a serpent. Derogatory language and repetition is used to emphasise his
hate toward Hermia and orders her to leave him alone. For example, in Act 3, Scene 2, Lysander has
fallen in love with Helena and tells Hermia how he hates her. Out, loathed medicine! O hated potion,
hence! Conflict between characters create comedy in the play which entertains the audience because
of the dramatic irony. Lysander s insults in the statement are repetition as it is the same meaning but in
different words. This language technique emphasises that Lysander wants Hermia to leave him alone.
Oberon and Titania are the

realtors, are updated every year. Each city s guide is different, of course, but a typical example would
include special restaurants, clothing boutiques, kitchen renovators, interior designers, realtors, artists,
salons, home builders, wealth managers, doctors, garden designers, photographers, caterers, and
maybe a private school or preschool. So many small businesses are owned by women the latest figures
show that women own 30 percent of all enterprises, a number that is increasing at a rate 1 ½ times the
national average that it is no surprise to find many of the businesses featured are female owned.
But, The Scout Guide is just the printed side of the business model. Equally important is the social
media aspect the blog that promotes each enterprise and the messages and photos sent out on Twitter
and Instagram to readers who want to keep up with their favorite shops, restaurants, and designers.

Descriptive Essay About Ice Cream
On Monday, May 22, 2017, my mother and I visited the Museum of Ice Cream. The museum isn t
your typical museum, there wasn t much about the history of ice cream or why it was made, it was
more of an interactive art museum. There are ten different galleries in the museum with gigantic ice
cream themed art. These rooms include, a gummy bear themed room, a banana split room, a chocolate
mint room, a melting popsicle room, and more. Almost every room came with samples of ice cream
and candies, it was absolutely magic! In contrast, the drive there was not quite as magical. The
museum is in downtown Los Angles where there was a lot of traffic, especially because we were
scheduled to go at 5:30 p.m. As my mom and I were driving up, I was questioning what we were
getting into because it was an industrial area, then, we pulled up to this bright pink building and that
was when I began to get excited. Once we got there, we were a little early, we went just outside the
museum where there was a little waiting area complete with ice cream themed connect four and a
huge Jenga. Once it was time for us to enter the museum, we waited in line for a worker from the
museum to scan our ticket and I was elated. Then, another worker from the museum came out from
inside and showed us through the giant glass doors into the museum. When we first entered, we were
told to reach inside an ice cream cart and grab a handful of chocolate. We were then led to a room
covered in pink walls complete with

Fossil Fuels vs Energy Alternatives
How can energy be converted from one form to another? All forms of energy can be converted to
another form of. For example: A pendulum is an object is suspended by a string or wire for support. If
the object is moved to one side and then released, it will swing back and forth in an arc. At that
moment the object reaches the top of its swing, it stops for an instant, and then begins another swing.
At that instant of stopping, the object has 100 percent potential energy and no kinetic energy. The
object starts back down through the swing, the object is gaining kinetic energy and losing potential
energy. At the instant the object is at the bottom of the swing, it has 100 percent kinetic energy and no

The Biomass energy is an organic matter that is used by photosynthesis. This is used to generate
energy and the most common energy is coming from the wood of the trees, corn, municipal solid
waste, and sugarcane. The biomass is used to create ethanol, biodiesel, bio oil and biogas. This in
turns create electricity with steam turbines and gasifies to produce heat. The advantage of using the
biomass over the fossil fuel is that biomass is a renewable carbon source, zero net carbon dioxide
emissions, lower methane, sulfate, and hydrocarbon emissions, and the most important is no
dependence on foreign oil. Another is the geothermal energy, in which it uses the heat from the earth
to warm things up. The common source is cost effective, reliable, and environmentally friendly. The
main sources of uses are to heat homes, greenhouse, industrial process heating mineral recovery,
fisheries and also mitigate global warnings. Geothermal energy is more valuable than the fossil fuels
because it is an inexhaustible energy source, lot less emissions in the atmosphere, more efficient than
solar energy, work under any kinds of weather conditions. The fossil fuels are irreplaceable, create
massive environmental pollution and are also causes the major factor of the global warming and the
ozone layer depletion. Also the Biomass and the Geothermal are very inexpensive compare to the
fossil fuels by almost 50 percent.

The Narative Structure of the Goodfellas
Goodfellas narrative structure creates an argument parallel to the proceedings in Plato s Republic,
Book II Book IX, in which audience members are asked to re evaluate their own facility toward filmic
influences by first idolizing and then reprimanding the tyrannical man. Martin Scorsese makes the
gangster life, or the life of an unjust man, seem easy and preferable through his use of romantic
elements in his film. His unjust man, Henry Hill, is protected from every angle from the law by way of
his position in the mob, and thus is free from punishment. However, when the narrative form of the
film switches, it is revealed that Henry is not protected from his own self indulgence and that his life
is much worse than that of a just individual a man free of harsh personal burdens.
Martin Scorsese makes the concept of the Ring of Gyges obtainable for his protagonist Henry Hill,
and for his audience, through alluring narrative and filmic elements.
In Goodfellas, protagonist Henry Hill is given freedom from the law, freedom from punishment, and is
allowed to exploit every corner of his desires. He is given power, protection, and prestige by his
fellow mobsters and in his narration claims that he is better than the suckers in the well . In Henry s
narration he is constantly ambiguous in the face of adversity. For example, when Henry describes how
his father beat him when he was younger, he simply explains The way I saw it, everybody has to take
a beating sometime. Moments

Corporate Governance and Control in Japan
Corporate governance and control in Japan: can the barriers to foreign takeover activity in Japan ever
be removed? Japan s seeming impenetrability to foreign takeovers, largely due to the prevailing
corporate culture and governance that allegedly hinders such takeovers, has defined business firms
and companies in the last decades (Lebrun, 2001; Gerlach, 1992; Maher and Wong, 1994; Seeman,
1986; Seeman, 1987; Stern, 1998). Such barriers have gradually been buoyed down by the worldwide
economic recession of the recent times an indication that while these barriers may not be totally lifted,
the prospect of reducing it is optimistic (Itoh and Vestring, 2001; Larimer, 1999; Seeman, 1986;
Seeman, 1987; JETRO, 2002;). Japanese inter corporate relationships are considered in terms of three
different structures of interaction: corporate groupings, financial centrality, and industrial
interdependency. Almost all decisions in Japanese business are group decisions, which require
virtually unanimous support from the members of the team making the decision Foreign firms, which,
to a great extent, need to acquire market shares in Japan, the nation with the world s greatest trade
surplus, find their way to major acquisitions in Japan virtually blocked by Japanese customs. They
face substantial barriers to acquiring Japanese companies. With Japanese PERs approaching the 100
level, most foreigners will hardly find Japanese firms a bargain. Most of the mergers and acquisitions

Essay about Civil War
Civil War
During the American Civil War, which lasted from 1861 1865, over 620,000 accounted soldiers were
killed. Known as the quot;the first modern war quot;, historians generally agree that the reason for this
was because this was a time of transition for the military. Armies and Navies were still using tactics
where they would gather large forces of firepower to bear on the enemy. At the same time, weapons
were being developed which were accurate and lethal well beyond any arms of the earlier conflicts. As
a result of these two conditions many more casualties were sustained. Add to that the lack of medical
knowledge of disease and infection and the numbers truly began to grow. This paper is an overview of

Fuses could be either timed so the round would explode after a certain number of seconds had elapsed,

used as long range rounds, meant to explode among an advancing enemy or used to blow apart enemy

Solid shot was a kinetic energy round. Its speed and mass were used to penetrate walls, fort and armor.
To produce any type of casualty effect, the round would have to actually strike the target. Solid shot
was particularly used against ironclad ships where a shell would do little or no damage. During one
test an 8 inch Brooke rifle with 16 pounds of powder fired a 140 pound ball 260 yards and penetrated
eight inches of iron backed by 18 inches of solid wood.
While there are many accounts of troops charging bravely into a quot;hail of grape quot; there is little
fact in this. Grape shot was used very little on the land battlefield during the Civil War. The
ammunition encountered by the soldiers was called canister, one of the war amp;#8217;s most

The Elements Of Robbery Under Common Law
Throughout history violent crimes against person had been an ever growing concern among the
populous. In response to this concern, English judges created the common law felony of robbery.
While the common law of robbery has existed throughout the centuries, not much has changed in
some of the modern state statues found today with the exception of creating degrees.
Robbery, under common law is the face to face threat or use of force to obtain property directly from
an individual or from their proximity with the intent to permanently deprive them of that property
(Bower, 2014). The elements of robbery under common law are robbery actus reus and robbery mens
rea (Samaha, 2013). The actus reus refers to the criminal act of use of force, or threat of force during
the crime. However, the amount of force used has to be greater than the force necessary to take and
carry away the person s property. For example, taking a woman s wallet from inside of her purse
would not constitute a robbery since the amount of force used was enough to acquire it. Conversely, if
the woman resisted and the person pushed or made a threat, then it would be considered robbery. The
second element, mens rea, is the intent to take someone else s property and permanently depriving
them of it. Additionally, unlike normal theft, robbery mens rea includes the additional intent to use
force or threat of force to acquire it (Samaha, 2013). Similarly, other than creating degrees and types
of robberies,

The Code Substitution ( Cdd ) Learning Essay
The Code Substitution (CDD) Learning is Immediate and Delayed Memory Tests. This test is based
on the symbol digit coding paradigm. The ANAM rendition emphasizes scanning and paired associate
learning of the symbol number pairs. The test also includes a recall component. A string of up to nine
symbols and nine digits are paired in a key across the upper portion of the screen. During the test,
there is a box at the bottom of the screen that contains a single symbol number pair. Pairings at the
bottom change and at times match the pairing in the key at the top. Other times the pairing is incorrect.
During the learning phase, the participant indicates whether or not the pairings at the bottom match the
key and receives feedback for incorrect responses. An immediate and/or a delayed recall trial can also
be included. During the recall phase (M2S), there is no key at the top and the participant must indicate
if the pairings appearing at the bottom are correct or incorrect from memory The ANAM test is
portable and can be administrated by a proctor who is available to clarify questions the participant
may have about how to complete the assessment. The proctor can provide minimal, i.e. percentage of

Genetic Research And Its Effects On The Human Bodies
Abstract This study helps us to understand what we need to know about companies owning specific
portions of DNA sequences that exist in our own human bodies. The basis of genetic research and the
idea of owning a gene were brought to light over 150 years ago when the Supreme Court ruled that
you could not own human nature, but over time the advancement of scientific research and technology
made genetic research and its findings more accessible. Genetic researchers were able to find genes
that can help cure disease and could identify cancerous genes in humans. With companies being able
to find these genes, they wanted to have chance to make money off of them; from tests for being
applicable to cancer, disease, or any other medical problem. This became an issue because of how
there are only few companies that you can go through for the test of that specific gene; they are a
monopoly. Since the late 1990 s, people have begun to protest the right to own a gene in a human
body and are wanting the companies to forfeit their rights of the ownership. This creates tensions
because of the abundant amount of money associated with the gene. This makes the company come
off as a negative aspect toward the next step in scientific discoveries. This study concludes that it is in
the best interest of humans to make companies that own genes go to the Supreme Court in order to
fight to protect ourselves against genetic monopolies, and to further develop scientific and

My Uncle graduated from one and told me that it is an experience like no other, and how it shaped

mental standards higher than the ordinary college student. I am motivated to attend a military

that this nation s military academies have set upon its cadets. I know that a military academy is the
best option for anyone, because it better prepares you for when you re out in the real world looking for

I never would have imagined myself going to. Education is privileged experience that you can apply

Japanese Yen The And Monetary Regimes
Japanese YEN and Monetary Regimes Wall Street Journal author Chelsey Dulaney, discusses the
appreciation of the Japanese YEN (¥) and its impact on its own economy and foreign investors. For
the past quarter, the USD was the strongest amongst its competitors until it fell about 0.1% to ¥ 108.1.
However, as frequently described within the article, there are no signs of slowing growth for the YEN
and Japanese government officials are now proposing a plan that will halt the YEN s growth. Factors
that are contributing to this hike include investors placing safe haven assets within the country and
general worries about the overall health of the global economy. Despite plans for future intervention,
Japan recently implemented monetary policy changes during the first half of the year. Japan hoped
that by lowering interest rates in the negatives, it will encourage economic growth, making exports
globally competitive. However, despite these changes, Japan s economy is in dire need of growth
stimulation and most foreign strategists believe that Japan will not implement any changes until they
are essentially cutting it close , keeping in mind that Japan is still in a recession. Strategist, Merill
Lynch for Bank of America claims that Japan will most likely act when YEN falls down to ¥100, a
figure that has not been seen since 2013. After careful analysis and further research, the Japanese YEN
is an incredibly recent and remarkable example of the way international monetary regimes

Pieter Claesz Still Life Essay
At first glance, Pieter Claesz s oil on wood panel composition appears to be an elegant table scene that
leaves the viewer with a desire for lightly salted crab served with a squeeze of lemon, a crusty roll and
a quaff of Rhenish wine. To an extent, this painting is indeed a feast for the senses and a
contemplation of fine food, temptingly presented amongst handsome dinnerware. Yet, by looking
deeper into this beautifully rendered still life, it becomes apparent that a greater moral and religious
message sits within this celebration of Dutch life and craftsmanship in the Seventeenth century.

using barbed death spears as a ritual punishment was known to have happened in the Sydney region at

The ghostly figure can be recognised through the sound of her high pitched screams, which she
releases in the presence of another character. The thumping noises of a rocking chair on a timber floor

There are a few pitchers who have to undergo Tommy John surgery. Most of the time after Tommy

Summary Of Five Equations That Change The World
As stated in the book Five Equations that Changed the World, Michael Guillen discusses that in the
1700 s there were several principles of heat which were certain. The first principal stated that heat
could only flow one way; hot to cold, and second that in heat, friction changes motion (Guillen 171).
But what if those rules weren t entirely set in stone? Rudolf Clausius sought to become the first person
to prove that this was not always the case. Clausius curiousity was sparked when he discovered the
writings of Sadi Carnot. Carnot s observations of heat and energy came from his observations and
investigations in steam engines. Steam engines create energy from two main contributors, the heat
from the boiler and the coolness from the radiator. In the book Reflections of the Motive Force of Heat

He relied mainly on learning from secondary sources that were being distributed after Carnot was
became gravely ill. Clausius noticed that the steam engine Carnot described was in essence a perpetual
motion machine in which the work that was produced from it would be turned back into head, which
would fuel said engine, leading to the creation of more work, which was recycled back into heat, and
so on and so forth. This made Clausius curious as to if this process could be applied in a larger
spectrum. Clausius was curious if it could be applied to the universe (Guillen 178 180).
In vein with Cardot s steam engine, Clausius figured that the unit of heat could be exchaged for a unit
of work (otherwise known as energy) without affecting the universal energy as a whole. He also
realized after much contemplation that in steam engines, heat is changed into energy by the pistons. It
was in that moment that he realized that his idea of entropy applied to the everything. This led to the

The Genetic Components Of Various Personality Disorders
Personality is an amalgamation of characteristics and traits that an individual develops as they grow;

disadvantages in a child s learning to speak their native tongue and some are more effective than
others. This essay will discuss each of these factors and how important they are. Some of the factors
that will be included in this essay are the children imitating their parents, being taught by their parents,
interaction with adults and the child s ability to work out the rules of grammar. It has been said that in
their development of language, children begin to make sounds or say words by imitating what ... Show

Although it is argued that a child is not exposed to enough language to merely imitate. Also it is
evident that children tend to over extend words and call more than one object the name of another
object, or over generalize words for example adding ed onto the end of words such as falled . It has
also been suggested that by careful teaching from the parent can be crucial within a child s
development. For example repetition from the parent towards the child, such as saying Daddy can
make a child s understanding of language develop quicker. But also this can by changing the language
that they use when around the child. This sort of babyish talk is often called caretaker speech or
parentese , but this use of babyish language would make it harder for the child to create sentences. The
subjects and topics should be of which the child can understand, but if spoken in an adult manner the
child would be able to make connections on how sentences are put together. Although it has been said
that there is always a gap between understanding and meaning, where the child may imitate what they
hear but not actually understand what they are saying. Also the rules of grammar have been shown to
be too complex for a child learning to speak, as they would not have yet

Although qualitative analysis is used for physical areas, with the usage to tackle non financial
information, it can be widely useful in business and finance fields.(kesh and Raja 2005, 167) The
qualitative analysis of the company level is concerned with products and services, competitive
advantage, management efficiency, corporate culture. Advanced products can get increasing cash
inflows and improve company value (Carter and Demissew 2008, 63) because booming demand for
products and services can lead to a high reinvestment rate of the company, this creates additional
wealth.( Madden 2007, 125) Competitive advantage can includes producing capacity and the
efficiency of a company s design and cost controlling better than the industry s competitors.
Generating a competitive advantage for a company will creates stakeholder value. (Vilanova, Lozano
and Arenas 2009, 63) The improvement of management efficiency can lower operating costs and
company culture can enhance corporate image, leading to improvement of company value.
Quantitative factors
The quantitative factors in fundamental analysis are based on a deep understanding of financial reports
which is the process of identifying opportunities and threats from the company, so investors must be
concerned with the balance sheet, cash flow statement and income statement analysis. Financial
statements consist of all important historical information about the company s operation management
during a specific time period

Argumentative Essay On Athens And Pericles
Athens was a major civilization located in ancient Greece. Athens was located on the ocean, which led
to it becoming a prominent trading center. The state was extremely wealthy with an extraordinary,
capable naval force. Women had no rights at all in Athens, so every one of the choices were made by
the men. The men of Athens had numerous obligations that they were required to perform for society
to run legitimately. Above all, they needed to take in every one of the qualities by which their society
taught them. Pericles believed that democracy exemplified a governmental system that gave every
citizen the right to vote, Xenophon opposes Pericles ideas and proclaims that the worst of people may
negatively affect the government, causing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He additionally glorified his people for the use of thought and deliberation on issues of significance.
Our public men have, besides politics, their private affairs to attend to, and our ordinary citizens,
though occupied . . . are still fair judges of public matters . . . instead of looking on discussion as a
stumbling block in the way of action, we think it an indispensable preliminary to any wise action at
all.
Xenophon, an ancient Greek writer, completely opposed the beliefs of Pericles. He explained the
various issues that arose in a democratic society. Xenophon resisted the idea that any person, no
matter his credibility, was given the same amount of power in the government system. Then there is a
point which some find extraordinary, that they everywhere assign more to the worst persons, to the
poor, and to the popular types than to the good men: in this very point they will be found manifestly
preserving their democracy. In this quotation, Xenophon refers to the fact

My Cultural Paper On Machu Picchu Peruvian Restaurant
One of the countries in South America is Peru, home to part of the Amazon rainforest and also to
Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu is an ancient Incan city that was set high in the Andes Mountains. The
civilization was renowned for its sophisticated dry stone walls, and so is Machu Picchu Peruvian
Restaurant. This restaurant has captured the essence not only of the ancient civilization, but of the
culture of Peru as well. Though this is a restaurant, they teach their customers about Spanish culture,
and they also contributes to both their immediate community and Hispanic community. So in other
words, this restaurant isn t just a restaurant, but a Peruvian cultural experience. First of all, the reason
why I chose to do my Cultural Paper on Machu Picchu Peruvian Restaurant is because to me (as well
as the community, I m sure), this place isn t only in existence to sell food, but to allow its customers to
experience Peru and it s culture as much as possible without going to the actual country. When you
first drive past the restaurant, the stone design of the outside draws your attention. This restaurant is
located in downtown Newburgh (one of the most dangerous cities in New York), so its design
automatically stands out from the poverty surrounding the area. Also, from the moment I walked into
the restaurant, it was like I stepped into a different world; from the smells to the ambiance, this
restaurant embodied Peru to the T . The dishes on the menu were all authentic, Peruvian

  • 2. Herbert Hoover Accomplishments Herbert Hoover was known as the Great Humanitarian and the Great Engineer. Yet, he was blamed almost entirely for the Great Depression. Herbert Hoover accomplished much in his life, but it was definitely not an easy journey; he went through the ups and downs of the learning years that paved the path leading to his presidency, and he ultimately faced his fears. Herbert Hoover was born in the rural town of West Branch, Iowa on August 10, 1874, to Jesse and Hulda Hoover. Herbert was born in one of the three rooms in the Hoover s home. Jesse compared Herbert to Ulysses S. Grant; he was very hopeful for his son s future. Jesse Hoover was the owner of a blacksmith shop in their small, rural town. Herbert, called Bert, had two siblings, an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After two years at the land settlement company, Hoover started taking night courses at a business school. Hoover learned from a Quaker math teacher about Stanford University, and he had a great desire to attend there. Herbert failed his first entrance exam, but Stanford allowed him another opportunity to take the exam. He was the tender age of seventeen when he began his engineering studies at Stanford. Wang is struggling with the identity of his ethnicity. The central message that the author wishes to pass across is to encourage young people to embrace their identities and desist from judging people based on their culture, race, and appearance. Throughout the whole story, the main players experience lack of self acceptance because of the treatments they receive from the society. Ironically, this is the same society that should accept them as part of its own. Because of their cultural and racial differences, teenagers are discriminated against by the society. • 6. Midsummer Night Dream Analysis A Midsummer s Night Dream William Shakespeare is a successful playwright as he uses the style of history, tragedy and comedy which is an entertaining aspect that is in all his plays. One of his plays, A midsummer s night dream , includes the themes of love and magic, where love is represented as a force that makes people act in irrational ways to entertain the audience in a comical and dramatic way. He used different techniques throughout the play to create a tumultuous and intriguing factor. The storyline of the play follows various couples such as Hermia and Lysander and Oberon and Titania. These couples show examples of irrational behaviours with love and magic throughout the play. Hermia and Lysander behave irrationally throughout the whole play because they re head over heels for each other; however, their love is oppressed by both her father Egeus and the strict Athenian law. In Act 1, Scene 1 when Egeus is at court with Hermia he uses a demanding and dominating tone to state, as she is mine i may dispose of her This causes them to act spontaneously and irrationally and as a consequence, they run away from Athens to get married. This entertains the audience by adding more conflict and complication to the story. After they elope to the forest, magic becomes the force that turns love to a dramatic and conflict filled experience that is also entertaining. Lysander acts in irrational ways when he is put under the spell of Love in Idleness where he states how madly he loves on Helena, and how much he hates Hermia. Hang off, thou cat, thou burr! Vile thing, let loose, / or I will shake thee from me like a serpent. Derogatory language and repetition is used to emphasise his hate toward Hermia and orders her to leave him alone. For example, in Act 3, Scene 2, Lysander has fallen in love with Helena and tells Hermia how he hates her. Out, loathed medicine! O hated potion, hence! Conflict between characters create comedy in the play which entertains the audience because of the dramatic irony. Lysander s insults in the statement are repetition as it is the same meaning but in different words. This language technique emphasises that Lysander wants Hermia to leave him alone. There are ten different galleries in the museum with gigantic ice cream themed art. Once it was time for us to enter the museum, we waited in line for a worker from the museum to scan our ticket and I was elated. The advantage of using the biomass over the fossil fuel is that biomass is a renewable carbon source, zero net carbon dioxide emissions, lower methane, sulfate, and hydrocarbon emissions, and the most important is no dependence on foreign oil. The Narative Structure of the Goodfellas Goodfellas narrative structure creates an argument parallel to the proceedings in Plato s Republic, Book II Book IX, in which audience members are asked to re evaluate their own facility toward filmic influences by first idolizing and then reprimanding the tyrannical man. Martin Scorsese makes the gangster life, or the life of an unjust man, seem easy and preferable through his use of romantic elements in his film. His unjust man, Henry Hill, is protected from every angle from the law by way of his position in the mob, and thus is free from punishment. However, when the narrative form of the film switches, it is revealed that Henry is not protected from his own self indulgence and that his life is much worse than that of a just individual a man free of harsh personal burdens. He is given power, protection, and prestige by his fellow mobsters and in his narration claims that he is better than the suckers in the well . Japan s seeming impenetrability to foreign takeovers, largely due to the prevailing corporate culture and governance that allegedly hinders such takeovers, has defined business firms and companies in the last decades (Lebrun, 2001; Gerlach, 1992; Maher and Wong, 1994; Seeman, 1986; Seeman, 1987; Stern, 1998). Japanese inter corporate relationships are considered in terms of three different structures of interaction: corporate groupings, financial centrality, and industrial interdependency. Almost all decisions in Japanese business are group decisions, which require virtually unanimous support from the members of the team making the decision Foreign firms, which, to a great extent, need to acquire market shares in Japan, the nation with the world s greatest trade surplus, find their way to major acquisitions in Japan virtually blocked by Japanese customs. In response to this concern, English judges created the common law felony of robbery. While the common law of robbery has existed throughout the centuries, not much has changed in some of the modern state statues found today with the exception of creating degrees. Robbery, under common law is the face to face threat or use of force to obtain property directly from an individual or from their proximity with the intent to permanently deprive them of that property (Bower, 2014). The elements of robbery under common law are robbery actus reus and robbery mens rea (Samaha, 2013). The actus reus refers to the criminal act of use of force, or threat of force during the crime. However, the amount of force used has to be greater than the force necessary to take and carry away the person s property. For example, taking a woman s wallet from inside of her purse would not constitute a robbery since the amount of force used was enough to acquire it. Conversely, if the woman resisted and the person pushed or made a threat, then it would be considered robbery. The second element, mens rea, is the intent to take someone else s property and permanently depriving them of it. Additionally, unlike normal theft, robbery mens rea includes the additional intent to use force or threat of force to acquire it (Samaha, 2013). Genetic Research And Its Effects On The Human Bodies Abstract This study helps us to understand what we need to know about companies owning specific portions of DNA sequences that exist in our own human bodies. The basis of genetic research and the idea of owning a gene were brought to light over 150 years ago when the Supreme Court ruled that you could not own human nature, but over time the advancement of scientific research and technology made genetic research and its findings more accessible. Genetic researchers were able to find genes that can help cure disease and could identify cancerous genes in humans. With companies being able to find these genes, they wanted to have chance to make money off of them; from tests for being applicable to cancer, disease, or any other medical problem. This became an issue because of how there are only few companies that you can go through for the test of that specific gene; they are a monopoly. Since the late 1990 s, people have begun to protest the right to own a gene in a human body and are wanting the companies to forfeit their rights of the ownership. This creates tensions because of the abundant amount of money associated with the gene. This makes the company come off as a negative aspect toward the next step in scientific discoveries. Japanese Yen The And Monetary Regimes Japanese YEN and Monetary Regimes Wall Street Journal author Chelsey Dulaney, discusses the appreciation of the Japanese YEN (¥) and its impact on its own economy and foreign investors. For the past quarter, the USD was the strongest amongst its competitors until it fell about 0.1% to ¥ 108.1. However, as frequently described within the article, there are no signs of slowing growth for the YEN and Japanese government officials are now proposing a plan that will halt the YEN s growth. Factors that are contributing to this hike include investors placing safe haven assets within the country and general worries about the overall health of the global economy. Despite plans for future intervention, Japan recently implemented monetary policy changes during the first half of the year. Japan hoped that by lowering interest rates in the negatives, it will encourage economic growth, making exports globally competitive. However, despite these changes, Japan s economy is in dire need of growth stimulation and most foreign strategists believe that Japan will not implement any changes until they are essentially cutting it close , keeping in mind that Japan is still in a recession. Strategist, Merill Lynch for Bank of America claims that Japan will most likely act when YEN falls down to ¥100, a figure that has not been seen since 2013. To an extent, this painting is indeed a feast for the senses and a contemplation of fine food, temptingly presented amongst handsome dinnerware. Yet, by looking deeper into this beautifully rendered still life, it becomes apparent that a greater moral and religious message sits within this celebration of Dutch life and craftsmanship in the Seventeenth century. Summary Of Five Equations That Change The World As stated in the book Five Equations that Changed the World, Michael Guillen discusses that in the 1700 s there were several principles of heat which were certain. The first principal stated that heat could only flow one way; hot to cold, and second that in heat, friction changes motion (Guillen 171). But what if those rules weren t entirely set in stone? Rudolf Clausius sought to become the first person to prove that this was not always the case. Clausius curiousity was sparked when he discovered the writings of Sadi Carnot. Carnot s observations of heat and energy came from his observations and investigations in steam engines. This made Clausius curious as to if this process could be applied in a larger spectrum. Clausius was curious if it could be applied to the universe (Guillen 178 180). In vein with Cardot s steam engine, Clausius figured that the unit of heat could be exchaged for a unit of work (otherwise known as energy) without affecting the universal energy as a whole.
